Yasuharu was born on a warm day in mid-July, 2003 in the bustling city of Yokohama. He was his parents first and only child. Growing up, he was under strict eyes, his parents both being high ranking doctors and expecting him to be the same. When he was 10 years old, he stumbled across and idol group performing on the street on his way home from school one day and was almost instantly hooked. His parents shut the idea down the moment he brought it up at dinner that night, making it very clear that they would not allow their only child to waste his life trying to chase a pipe-dream. This didn't deter him as he started secretly taking vocal lessons after school under the guise of taking extra science lessons. His aunt discovered his lie when she was instructed to pick him up one day, but instead of telling his parents, she showed support for his dreams. In 2014, he auditioned to Jupiter Entertainment at only 11 years old, successfully getting accepted into the company with his aunt's help. When his parents found out, they were extremely angry with him and his aunt. The night ended with a screaming match between them and his aunt, who was shielding the young boy from his parents' rage, before the two were casted out of the house with instructions to never return. Yasuharu was heartbroken over this and almost gave up his dreams entirely if it wasn't for his aunt.

A year later in 2015 at the age of 12 years old, Yasuharu would make his debut in the idol group Moshi Moshi! ★ Brothers!. The group consisted of 5 members including Yasuharu, with the age range being between 1995 and 2003. The group presented themselves as very close brothers and Yasuharu's tattoo is a testiment about the sentiment being shared off camera as well. The five members were extremely close and gained a decent amount of popularity in Japan. Unfortunately, on the 1 January, 2021, Jupiter Entertainment announced their immediate disbandment which came as a shock to not only fans, but the group themselves. They had taken to fan cafes and told fans that there was no discussion with the group about the announcement and they had only found out through fans. The five of them were devastated and it is still one of the only times fans have ever seen Yasuharu cry.

In late 2021, with a lot of convincing from the former members of Moshi Moshi! ★ Brothers!, Yasuharu auditioned to WakeOne Entertainment. He was surprised when he was accepted and hesitant to leave his former members behind, but they managed to convince him to continue to persue his dreams. His Korean was conversational at best and it was difficult to make friends at first. Then he was paired up with Kim Taerae for a monthly evaluation and finally made his first real friend in South Korea. The two were almost always together and created an unbreakable friendship.

His experience in Boys Planet was better than he expected. He was nervous that because of his extensive idol history people would think he was being greedy, but everyone was understanding and supportive of his history. His former members were also in attendance for the final episode and when Yasuharu was ranked 10th place, their screams were the loudest in the venue. Though Yasuharu didn't cry, it was clear he was overwhelmed with emotion. He was welcomed with open arms as the last member of Zerobaseone.

Assassin's Creed's Approach to Opt-In Storytelling

Assassin's Creed's Modern Day (hereafter shorthanded to MD for ease) story has been in a troubling spot for about 12 years now, by most accounts. It's a controversial element of the franchise, to say the least; many love it and wish for it to return to grander overarching narratives sweeping multiple entries, others couldn't care less - or worse, actively view it as obstructing the historical elements which they center their enjoyment of the games around.

So what gives? It seems as if the wants of these two groups are irreconcilable. Attempting to meet the desires of one will invariably dissatisfy the other. Well, dear reader, not only do I not think these groups' needs are irreconcilable, I believe Ubisoft have already stumbled into the solution, though with mixed execution.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR ALL ASSASSIN'S CREED GAMES

Enter Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The first mainline entry in the series following Desmond's death at the end of the previous game, this game serves as, for all intents and purposes, the audience's first glimpse into the new approach to telling the MD story in Assassin's Creed. And the reception of this new approach was, cool, to say the least. No longer were we the prophesied Desmond Miles, armed with the knowledge of Altair and the abilities of Ezio, but a faceless and nameless new Abstergo Entertainment employee. For the Agents, a term I will be using throughout this essay to refer to the pro-MD crowd, this is a downgrade on all conceivable levels. If you're a Historian, a player only here for the historical simulation aspect of the series, you're still getting interrupted after each memory sequence to engage with a part of the game you've decided you don't enjoy. Neither camp is happy with this. Assassin's Creed Rogue's MD sections are very similar if not identical in terms of MD scope and gameplay.

However, there were still elements that worked to the benefit of MD sections. On the surface, it all seems banal, pointless, maybe even kitschy in that way that corporate millennials trying to market themselves as hip, fun, and approachable often come off - but if you were an Agent, you'd be likely to explore, and in that you'd uncover some interesting details about Abstergo's history, base of knowledge, and operations both overt and clandestine. Among the most interesting details is the rise of the Instruments of the First Will, an Isu cult centered around newly-liberated Juno.

However, there were deep flaws with this approach shared by Black Flag and Rogue. Chiefly, being nameless, faceless, and without any real clear motive are massive roadblocks to getting any actual investment from the audience. In addition to that, being forced out of the Animus in order to engage with this story's surface level will only serve to irritate those Historian players, and the lack of connection to a MD protagonist to replace the Desmond-shaped hole in our hearts means that Agents aren't getting as much from the experience as they want either.

Right, new console generation, new start for Assassin's Creed. With the sibling releases of Unity and Syndicate in 2014 and 2015 respectively, came a new slightly less anonymous and slightly more bodiless MD protagonist: The Initiate. We have a title now. Neat! The downside is that this Initiate seems to be represented by... you, the player, playing this video game shipped by Abstergo on their Helix platform. Less neat. If Agent players didn't already feel too disconnected from the action of the MD plot in Black Flag and Rogue, they certainly would now, and Historians are still being interrupted with even less interactive (in some ways, less relevant) cutscenes than before. For many members of the community, this is about where the conversation ends: "There is no Modern Day in Unity/Syndicate!" they smugly chant. This criticism rings as understandable but not entirely accurate, by my reading.

In Assassin's Creed Unity, one of the many (MANY) side activities throughout the game are the Helix Rifts, effectively timed nonlinear parkour courses littered with data fragments, fun enough to play while listening to several-hour long video essays. The reward for completing these rifts is primarily the unlock of Assassin Intel, text and audio files that give further details on the conflict between the Assassins and Templars as it continues into the modern era. In Syndicate, Assassin Intel returns, but is obtained through Helix Glitch collectibles. This approach is great for Historian players because they are never really forced out of the Animus (at least, they certainly aren't for as long, and don't have to be), and yet there's still an avenue for Agent players to dig deep into MD story elements.

By the time of Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla, Layla Hassan becomes a new face for MD players, and yet the Animus interruptions become even less frequent, seemingly disappearing entirely save for the early game and endings.

Some steps forward, some steps backwards. There are strengths and drawbacks to each approach, and any designers somehow stumbling upon this humble essay should hopefully be striving to incorporate the strengths of each while navigating around or adapting to the weakness each approach presents.

I believe a MD section should be unobtrusive, easily looked past by the more casual Historian audience which wants nothing more than to have a wide-open historically-inspired playground to run around in. However, it should also be rewarding to Agent players who want to dig deep and put on their best investigative hats to uncover secrets.

The big twist of this essay is that Ubisoft have already done this, twice: once in the game that started it all, and once again in the oft-overlooked PSVita title, Assassin's Creed Liberation. Both games have secrets for dedicated players to sift through but will not hesitate to let the player skip out on all of that to get straight back to the Animus. Every game after Liberation and before Origins has that much in common.

The main criticism I have of the MD in those games (Liberation through Syndicate) is that the activities involved in uncovering the "true story" or "secret endings" of the games feel so disconnected from the goal. I believe Assassin's Creed 1 and Black Flag come the closest to making your actions feel truly pursuant to snooping around in the Modern Day. Both games see their protagonists eavesdropping, pickpocketing, hacking computers and intercepting clandestine correspondence to figure out what's really going on.

Much as it pains me to say it, MD may be best served by being missable entirely by the uninterested Historians, but it should still be able to signal its promise of depth to Agents. Unity/Syndicate have the ideal subtlety (though perhaps one should take a note from the most recent AC games and remove Animus Interruptions entirely), and the actions to access it should take inspiration from AC1 (this would be a great way to once more explore the Bleeding Effect as it pertains to taking game experience obtained inside the Animus outside the Animus). the MD story is still worth including and developing, and deserves to be seen by players who are invested in its stories, while allowing the space for casual players who aren't as invested to continue with the core gameplay uninterrupted. There is space for both, especially with how big Ubisoft games have been getting in general in the past few years.

April 17th 2014 saw the official opening night of The Kelpies.

The Kelpies, located in Falkirk, tower a colossal 30 metres above the Forth and Clyde Canal and form a dramatic gateway to the canal entrance on the East Coast of Scotland. Created by Scotland's leading sculptor Andy Scott, The Kelpies are a monument to horse powered heritage across Central Scotland.

Some details of the Kelpies, each structure contains approximately 18,000 individual pieces. There is over 1.5 miles of steel in each structure. They each weigh over 300 tonnes and sit on 1,200 tonne foundations. Each structure has 464 steel plates In a monumental feat of engineering, The Kelpies rose from the ground in just 90 days, in late 2013.

Nearly one million people visited the Kelpies sculptures in Falkirk in the first year, since then the visitor numbers have declined, but still have numbers of over 500,000 a year

Some people criticise the cost of The Kelpies, said to be around £5 million, to me it is justified, it does bring a lot of people into the area of Falkirk in general, and are we to be the generation that forgets about public art just because of the costs? I love them and have visited them to many times to remember of the years, I may not be in Falkirk now, but I will take a trip to The Helix again and grab more pics, enjoy a coffee and take in the views over to The Ochils.

Let's talk about the 2014 Twitch Plays Pokémon stream!

Generation One was the original run of Twitch Plays Pokemon. Started on February 12, 2014, by an anonymous Australian programmer, this was the first iteration of TPP, originally designed as a "social experiment." Initially, the streamer claimed the game being played was a hack of Pokémon Red, "Pokémon Red 151" by Suicune, which allows all 151 Pokémon to be captured with different methods, however, the streamer later contradicted this, saying that the patch was faulty and that a vanilla version of Pokemon Red was being played. Viewers control the protagonist by inputting commands into the chat. This run was beaten by the TPP community on March 1st, 2014, with the defeat of the Elite Four and rival Blue.  

At E3 2014, Twitch (accepting for the Players and Streamer) was awarded the World Record for "most participants on a Single Player online video game" for TwitchPlaysPokemon Red. Guinness says that 1,165,140 people played the game during its duration.

The Lore of TPP

The lore in Generation 1 revolved heavily around various religions spawned from the game play. 

Red appears to have been chosen by the Hivemind, voices from another world (community players) to embark on a quest to resurrect Lord Helix.  Along his journey, he gathered several 'Mon to join in on the quest, but an apparent (but still debated) betrayal by his Eevee who had recently evolved into a Flareon left his starter, Abby and fan-favorite Jay Leno dead, or released.  After consulting with the at-the-time dormant Helix Fossil, Red decided to release the Flareon and continued on the journey with another faithful 'Mon, Bird Jesus.

Questions still remain as to who the true enemy of Generation 1 was.  Many pointed to the Dome Fossil, due to it being the other fossil a player can choose at Mt. Moon.  Due to the prevalence of Bill lore surrounding his involvement in releases in subsequent generations, there has been some revisioning of generation 1 that centers around Bill being the main villain.  Regardless, soon a strong team was formed with Bird Jesus as its backbone and late-addition AA-j as its powerhouse, and the Helix Fossil was revived into the Omanyte, and later Omastar, Lord Helix. 

After all eight Kanto gyms were conquered and carrying the memories of those lost on the infamous Bloody Sunday, Red entered Victory Road and began the march to the Elite Four.  After conquering the road's boulder puzzles, Red challenged the Elite Four, eventually besting them and defeating Blue to become League Champion. This moment was seen as Lord Helix's victory, either besting the Dome, Bill, or both.  It is believed that after becoming champion, Red traveled to Mt. Silver at the behest of Lord Helix, where he and his 'Mon waited for the rise of a godslayer, to kill Lord Helix and restore balance to the world.

25: piercings/tattoos; i have the normal single lobe ear piercings and a bee on my hip. i would like triple lobe piercings and possibly a left helix. i have a friend with earth/moon tats in her inner elbows sized such that when she spreads her arms it’s an accurate size/distance comparison? i hope that makes sense. as soon as i am not in the worst financial time of my life and find an artist who’s good at really fineline stuff without it turning into a blurry mess in two years i will do it
