hel is so funny bc like she was just born half a corpse and odin saw her and was like 'yuuupppp youre a god of death. get in there' and then made (hel, who presumably, is still a child) queen of basically 90% of everyone who dies. also shes a horse girl.

It really is heartbreaking, isn’t it? The separation between Loki and Hel is not just physical but deeply emotional, a cruel twist of fate that keeps a father from his daughter.

Yet, there is actually a detail in the myths: Loki is said to have crafted Lævateinn, a powerful weapon, in the poem Fjölsvinnsmál, it's mentioned that this weapon, which some interpret as a wand or sword, was made by Loki near the doors of death.. or used a branch from her kingdom to carve it into Lævateinn.

This suggests that Loki did, at least once, journey into Helheim for however long that had taken. Perhaps during this time, he glimpsed at his daughter, now the formidable queen of the underworld or still a fragile little girl. Hel, too, might have felt the sting of abandonment, not knowing her father's intentions or the reasons behind her banishment.

I’m thinking about Hel and Loki more and they…are making me so sad.

I don’t know about how easy it may or may not be to get into Niflheim, but it sounds pretty damn closed off. I mean…at least Loki can go to the beach or something to see Jormungandr, can go to the cavern where they keep Fenrir, and can go to Odin’s or whatever to see Slepinir. But he’s like…entirely cut off from his only daughter.

He doesn’t get to watch her grow into the powerful goddess she becomes, she doesn’t get to know her father and is entirely cut off from her family.

Anyway, they’re breaking my heart a bit

So uhhh i read versions when Hodr went to Hel because he was considered a killer of Baldr but also there are versions Hermodr went to Hel because he was the brave?? Anyway heres Hodr begging Hel to revive his brother also two posts in a span of 3 days because i didnt post anything before going on a trip

today felt like a good morning to draw monsters. I wanted to see if I could fit Loki and all six of their specified children from the Eddas on one journal sheet. I’m having my first ever Norse mythology phase, if you can believe it.
