it was only a couple months into training, and things were looking... decent? at least, you could consider yourself improving. sure, combat was something you trained in, but when it came to you versus whatever horrors outworld contained, you tugged at the collar of your shirt.

janet, however, seemed unfazed. actually, she seemed ecstatic! you'd seen a couple of her movies and knew she could kick ass if needed. her physique impressed you, as did her endless charm and effortless ability to piss the swordswoman off. her attitude was brushed off for your sake. you knew she had just gone through a messy divorce with her ex-wife, is in talks of selling her mega mansion, and new roles were coming up dry. you'd think she'd be bitter but it turned out to be quite the opposite. her typical swagger and flourished gestures tore you from your thoughts.

"there she is!" janet exclaims, swinging a toned arm around your shoulder and tugging you close to her side. "you miss me? i bet you did!" you recall the last time you interacted with her: lunch. twenty minutes ago. even still, her perky attitude flustered you quicker than you'd like to admit.

"suuure," you sarcastically reply, hoping to toy with her ego a bit. "as if i didn't see you at lunch."

"it's hard to not miss me when i'm not around," she sighs dramatically, as if she has the hard life. "no need to lie to me, babe. you love having me around." your insides twist at the name. as you eyes are downcast, janet's eyes light up more than usual with a slight blush to her cheeks.

"whatever you wanna believe, miss A-List," you swat her arm, and she removes it though her grin remains unfaltered. janet pauses for a moment, lifting her sunglasses from her eyes and settling them on top of her head. you're winded by her beauty. you had seen it on screen as mentioned before, but there was some alluring power of her eyes when they were only a couple feet from your face. janet could kick ass, but she was also a gorgeous actress.

"tell you what," she shoots a single finger gun at you, once again removing you from your daydreams full of her face... among other things. "you won't have to miss me tonight. raiden and i planned to spar after dinner. you'll watch me kick her ass, right?" there was a hint of pleading, almost nervousness in her gaze. as if she needed you to say yes. her brows knitted together for only a single twitch.

"don't sweat," you reassure her, taking her strong hands in yours with a soft smile. "i'll be your cheerleader." with your confirmation, you turn on your heel and head the other direction to tend to your own duties. what you don't notice, however, is janet whooping to herself as soon as your back is turned.

just as the sun hits golden hour, you and the girls are waiting by the sparring ring. raiden stands straight, hands behind her back as she waits for her opponent to arrive. and so she does. janet comes jogging into view, waving at the crowd of monks and earthrealmers. she waves and smiles, blowing kisses to an unamused audience. she acts like it's another one of her performances. liu kang rolls her eyes.

"i bet your chakram hat that janet gets her ass kicked," you mutter to kung lao, who stood beside you with a smirk. she nudges your shoulder.

"aren't you supposed to be on janet's side?" kung lao mumbles back with a knowing grin. when you return with a perplexed frown, she scoffs. "everyone and their mother could figure out you're into her."

your cheeks puff up out of frustration, ready to rip kung lao a new one for being so loud and direct, but you see a hand snap in your face. snapping your neck to the source, you meet your eyes with janet's, who was leaning down to catch your attention.

"hey hey, eyes on me, sweet thing," her voice feels like honey when it drops low, and you snap back to her attention with a dazed look in your eye. your heel drives into kung lao's foot when you hear her snicker. "atta girl, check this out." a part of you dies inside from embarrassment. damn her and her confidence.

the spar begins, and admittedly it's evenly matched. punches are matched with kicks, parries and dodges slightly rile the crowd up from how equal the combat is. while raiden is calculated, janet is quick, and it becomes apparent that janet actually has a good chance.

that is, until she successfully knocks raiden to the ground. she's doubled over in pain, trying to prop herself up enough to come back from the near-knockout. janet winds up a fist almost comically, winding it in circles with a grin. just before she lands the blow, she turns to you with a beaming, cocky grin.

"this one's for you, baby!" janet shouts out, pulling her sunglasses down with her other hand to wink. before you could even consider being flattered, raiden flips up and shifts her weight, readying a godlike kick.

janet sits awkwardly on the cot, fidgeting with the now broken pair of sunglasses in her hands. she can't seem to bring herself to focus on you, even as you're leaning into her to wipe her wounds.

"you should have been more careful," you gently scold her, holding her face up by her chin to wipe the dried blood on her nose. "i don't need the whole show to be impressed, janet."

she smiles lazily, eyelashes fluttering as she inspects your features. "did i at least look hot getting my nose broken?"

you want to sigh and scold her further, but you decided to indulge in her entertainment and smile back, and janet visibly tenses up at your warm stare.

"very."

her lazy smile turns into a lopsided grin as she realizes you're calling her hot. not that her ego needed it really, she knew she was hot. but you saying of it all people, dear lord she was reeling. although she was an actress, a damn good one, you could see she was visibly straining herself from losing it. so, considering you had the upper hand, you hold her face by her cheeks and squish gently with a teasing smile.

"you're blushing."

janet frowns dubiously. "am not."

"i can see it. you're blushing." your eyes flicker between hers, and then to her lips briefly. she sucks them in, focusing on your own lips with dazed eyes.

perhaps janet could use another lesson, you think. so, instead of indulging in what you both want, you let go of her face and place the bloodied rag in a discard bin, wiping your hands on your thighs. janet freezes with a pleading look, knowing exactly what you're doing. you're playing a sick game of cat and mouse.

"where are...?" janet's voice trails off sheepishly, the hardest indicator that you've caught her off guard. she wants to stand up and follow you out, but the monks told her to stay, and a pounding migraine from the blow made sudden movement difficult.

"gotta fight for what you want, janet," you coo innocently, waving with your fingers before you exit the tent. "just don't get your ass kicked. maybe then i'll reward you."

you're not around long enough to see the steam spilling from her ears and her beet-red cheeks.

I understand what you mean; your past experiences could make you very hesitant to do things even if you really want to do them and they are not harmful to anyone, or to have bad associations and even triggers. Figuring out your level of comfort also could be more difficult if you are still influenced by the consequences of those past experiences… Still, I think it’s wonderful that you want to work on that and to make yourself feel better and more comfortable, to clear things up for yourself – I don’t doubt for a moment that you will be able to handle it, even if it takes time.

Starting with little steps is great I think, it’s like dipping your toes before diving in.

hehee hi guys. Again, sorry for my long disappearance :( the following week something devastating happened w one of my moms friend and she was really and i mean REALLY upset and devastated, And almost 2 weeks ago, my sister got shot— it could’ve been fatal if he shot her in an artery…Yeah 2024 isn’t really the year, but my moms ok and my sister is fine. Just wanted to come clean and say i’ve ran almost 3 blogs on this app, disappearing from each from all the pressure and IRL problems. i’ve ran so many blogs at once that’s probably the reason WHY i quit most of them.

I loveeee Mastermind, it’s been getting me through the week and to Fridays, and even though it’s a shame it’s over, I have to say, it was one of the BEST fics i’ve ever read.

Firstly, I loveee your Sirius characterisation. He’s adorable. I also love how him and Remus’ relationship grew. It felt realistic, and they seemed like stable people.

Obviously time passed between filming (ie, chapters) and you showed how they’d spent a lot of time together and their relationship had grown and changed really well as the chapters progressed, without directly having to say it.

By the middle, I could tell how close they’d become and yet also I could feel their flirty vibes through my phone. 

Plus I was along the ride with Sirius the whole time, routing for him and Moony. I’m also proud of James and Regulus, they were very cute in the background.

Ugh and Remus was so sweet and unassuming the whole time. Probably half freaking out over his childhood crush acting with him (which was the perfect reveal btw) 

Also; it being the personification of a Taylor Swift song, one of my favourites too, definitely helped my adoration for this fic

Plus special credit to that line in like Chapter 4 I think. Remus going “I think i’ve seen this film before” about Jegulus and Dorlene (I love exile). 

And finally, I can’t explain it, but this line was so moving;

He trusts Remus Lupin implicitly, and he loves the man with his entire soul. They can last a few months apart. But it’s all the more lovely that Remus flies out to be with him on their anniversary, even though he’s supposed to be in LA filming his new movie.

I love it when fics end in a way that makes you feel like the relationship will last. And this does exactly that.

(Also, I know nothing about celebs or awards and when you wrote “And Sirius hugged Oscar” after winning his Oscar, I legit thought for a sec that he hugged the guy who invented the award… I missed the bit where it said Oscar Isaac, though that makes more sense.)

Anyway, all in all, amazing fic!!!!! Take the compliments!!!!

I had planned to reveal that Remus liked Sirius for a long long time since the beginning but Hope and Lyall really took the cake with their little prank hehe. But I did love that both of them were so oblivious to the other’s feelings. I think that’s so foundational to wolfstar’s relationship.

Remus is such a swiftie I can’t 😩 like yeah he listens to Queen and ABBA and David Bowie but he’s SUCH a folklore/evermore girlie

I genuinely got the idea for this fic while listening to mastermind by Taylor Swift and I texted my friend and was like “WHAT IF ITS MASTERMIND BUT WOLFSTAR” and she was like “YOU HAVE TO WRITE IT” so I did :)

It could have just been left as a “agree to disagree, have a nice day,” situation. You didn’t have to say anything to me at all. “Peak comedy” was the irony of seeing the two post practically back to back when both are at complete opposites of the spectrum, not your opinion.

Like, dude, bro, I don’t know you and you don’t know me, so why do you think you do? I lack the ability to understand complex characters? Some of my favorite characters in media are the villains, the anti-heroes, the side characters because they’re complex. Don’t know if you’re an anime watcher or not, but my pfp is Dabi from My Hero Academia, a very complex character. Loki is among one of my favorite characters in general because of how complex he and his story is. I could go on about Miguel O’Hara in Across the Spider-Verse and how he isn’t a villain and is tragically misunderstood by a lot of people who saw the movie, or Jason Todd, or Gojo and Toji in Jujutsu Kaisen, Levi in Attack on Titan, Zhongli in Genshin Impact and so many other characters. I do this to my friends pretty frequently.

My second favorite character in the franchise is Scorpion/Hanzo Hisashi, now Kuai Liang, which…is gonna take a lot of getting used to tbh. He’s gotta be just as complex as Bi-Han is. There’s a lot to understand about his story and character.

Astarion from BG3 and all of his actually morally grey and sometimes worse little gremlin ways is all I can think of as of late. But I don’t understand complex characters, mkaaaayyyyy.

No, I’m certainly not old enough to have played a vast majority of the MK games, doesn’t mean I’m not an enjoyer and don’t watch videos about the lore from people who know far more than I do. That’s why I didn’t reference any other game, just this one specifically and what it offers. As someone else replied, the game is a touch inconsistent. Largely, Bi-Han is a dick in this game. He has his own motives and wants, totally fine good for him, they just really don’t lay anywhere near morally good lol

And seeing as how MK1 is a complete reboot, he seems quite irredeemable, or at least has some very low lows. In this game, he’s a pretty shit son for letting his father die and then lying about it to his brothers. In this game, he’s pretty shit for siding with Shang Tsung even if he feels trapped by Liu Kang and wanted more freedom. In this game, he’s a pretty shit brother for threatening to kill his younger brother’s wife to his face. Did he show concern about Kuai Liang and Tomas’ safety when infiltrating the fortress? Of course, they are his family. He can show concern and remorse. I don’t think that’s off limits to characters I see as somewhat evil or at least super shitty. I also don’t think he’d change his actions if he had the chance. He has his vision for the Lin Kuei and that goes against what his father believed and what his brothers believe.

The timeline has reset; everything else means nothing now. Fujin said Noob was born as a good person? Past tense, for starters, and that was MK11. That timeline doesn’t exist anymore. Kuai Liang trying to find a way to turn Bi-Han good again in his MK11 ending? Means he wasn’t good and, again, that timeline is gone. You say Armageddon isn’t the canon timeline. Full stop right there. It ain’t canon. He can be good in it, sure, but that’s not the main timeline. That’s like saying Smoke is a cyborg. Sure, he was, but he isn’t now. That’s not canon anymore. This is a new man - this is a new Bi-Han, and again, I made it pretty clear I was only talking about his actions in MK1, so I really didn’t ask about the other games.

You misunderstood what I meant when I said peak comedy, which I can say is my fault and could have worded it slightly differently. Slight MK1 story spoilers involving the Lin Kuei

Peak comedy is me scrolling through tumblr’s version of my fyp and seeing someone say Bi-Han in MK1 isn’t a one dimensional character. Which is true, he’s very complex. He feels like he is being controlled by Liu Kang. He has to answer to him to a certain extent. He probably felt the same about his father, the former grandmaster of the Lin Kuei. Shang Tsung offered him more leadership, free to do essentially whatever he wants. Which isn’t true because, be real, it’s Shang Tsung and even he answers to someone else. But then saying he was right with siding with Shang Tsung and that he isn’t evil. Then two posts later, I see this

His younger brother telling him to stay away from his wife and Bai-Han just going like “lol bffr do you know who I am?” Like, mans confessed to letting their father die just so he can take over, sides with Shang Tsung, is okay with the idea of Shang Tsung wiping out millions of lives, and then threatens to kill his brother’s wife. And we all know his threats are just promises he’s waiting to cash in.

But yeah, he totally isn’t evil
