It’s a ghost town here tonight! There is only one other person in the cardio room. . I’ve decided to make some changes and create new habit loops. I wrote it down, said it out loud to a friend and now I share it with you all. I’ve gotten in a habit of grabbing a bottle of wine and snacks on Fridays. It’s not bad, but I’ve created a habit where I destress, celebrate, relax, or decompress at the end of the week. I want to create a new habit for the end of the work week, one where I feel really good about my choices and not become a slug on the couch. To create new habit loops I have the same cue (end of the week decompression) but make a new plan. The new routine is to go the gym and then treat myself to a salad from Chopt! The reward being I feel good getting in some healthy movement AND look forward to a delicious healthy meal I didn’t have to cook! Lol Keep that positive mindset and instead of thinking about what you CAN’T have, think about what you CAN! . If you are looking to change some habits definitely try this out! 4 Goals for 4 Weeks
Here goes - 4 weeks til I’m back at school (aka work), so I’ve got a few things to focus on daily while I’m prepping for good school year habits. These are from my 30 habits for 30 days - the biggest things that I either didn’t stick to as well I should have, or that just need a little more tweaking.
1. 7 to 8 hours of sleep. During the summer I can nap during the day - school year means no naps. 😭 So I’m putting the pressure on myself now to start scheduling bedtime earlier in order to still get enough sleep. [8 pm electronics off, 9 pm bed, 5 am wakeup]
2. 5 days of the gym. Every week. No excuses. I took some spin classes with my sister (she’s an instructor) while we were on vacation, and I loved how many calories I burned in under an hour!! I’m going to try some of those workouts on my own at the gym. For the next few weeks I’ll be working out during the day with hubby, but when school starts back up, I’ll be going alone first thing in the morning (and he’ll be doing the evening shift when I get back from work).
3. Skin care. I know better - I have all the great products. I literally have a schedule in my head that I think of every day when I go into my bathroom. And I still skip half the time. NO EXCUSES HERE EITHER! Self care is just as important as eating healthy and working out, so this is it. Wearing makeup to school every day will trash my skin if I’m not taking good care of it. Morning AND night - cleanse, treat, moisturize.
4. Healthy food. I maintained during vacation (impressive considering it was a wedding month and my sister was the cake decorator 😍), but I’m back to needing a schedule. Planning the following: eggs with bacon and cheese and toast for breakfast, prepped salads for lunch, mainly protein for dinner, small snacks (fruit, cheese, etc) as needed - CRAP TON OF WATER. I know myself, and trying to cut anything entirely makes me want it sooo badly. So instead, I’m just going to focus on mostly water. A soda once in awhile won’t kill me, some juice is alright, coffee when I really need it (lol #teacherlife). But mostly water. Like 100 oz per day of straight, clear, H2O.
Here we go guys - August is gonna be good.

4:45 a.m. wake up call+25 minutes of cardio+ a full day of work. I still need to make dinner, write lesson plans, and catch up on school work. Still, I choose to kick off this week with another workout. I committed myself to doing two today, and so I'm going to follow through. People always ask me how I managed to lose 20kgs the past year. My answer is always the same, "90% what you eat, 10% exercise." Then they ask, "But what do you eat?" Well, where do I start? To make a long story short, here's a pic of what my kitchen table looks like after I've gone shopping. The only things missing are the lean steak, chicken breast and fish. Zucchini-Hüttenkäsepuffer nach einem Rezept von @fitness_food_mum_. Ich habe für mich alleine die halbe Menge der angegebenen Portion gemacht 60g Hähnchen und den #Oberfoodporn Datteldipp

oh mein Gott ist der lecker – ich liebe den so! Deswegen will ich dir das #Rezept nicht vorenthalten: ♦ g100 g Magerquark ♦ 100g Frischkäse light (für die Challenge habe ich 50g durch Körnigen Frischkäse ersetzt) ♦ 30g entsteinte Datteln ♦ ️3g Knoblauch ♦ g2g Ayvar Mild ♦ Curry, Salz und Pfeffer Püriert die Datteln und den Knoblauch. Quark und Frischkäse dazu und das Ganze mit Ayvar, Curry, Salz und Pfeffer. Mehr braucht es nicht, um absolut lecker dippen zu können 🤤 Mit einer Grundmasse von 500g Quark und Frischkäse kann man das Ganze auch mit einer Feier nehmen

The Importance of Exercise, Nutrition, and Sleep
Exercise, Nutrition, and Sleep are some of our most basic needs as adults, and especially as teachers.  As educators, we think we can do it all.  And as a result, exercise, nutrition, and sleep sometimes suffer.  Here are some tips to help you make sure that you are getting plenty of these basic needs in your weekly routine:
1.  Sleep:  Give yourself a set bed time and wake-up time each day.  Don’t let yourself go to bed later than your set time, even if you have to finish grading.  It can wait.  The students understand, even though we don’t think that they do.  Getting a good night’s sleep each night will help you to feel well-rested the next day.  If you fall out of this routine, it will just become a viscous cycle of you feeling constantly tired and needing a turbo shot of espresso in your coffee every day.  I also think it’s important to give yourself a set time to stop doing work each night.  For example, if you force yourself to stop working one hour before you go to bed, it gives your body time to unwind and calm down.  If you work right up until you go to bed, you are more likely to be restless and toss and turn before you finally fall asleep.  Doing this will help you to get more rest and feel more rested when you wake up.
2.  Exercise:  Exercise allows your body to release endorphins- the chemicals that make you feel good.  This helps relieve stress and unwind after a stressful day at school.  Even if it’s for a half hour three times a week, it will help.  Go for a run around your neighborhood, join your local gym and go to spin class, or even just watch a YouTube video in your living room.  Find a way to make your body feel good.  And you’ll even start to notice a change in your overall energy level when you wake up every morning.  Your muscles will appreciate it too, and you’ll feel stronger.
3.  Nutrition:  Fuel your body with food that makes you feel good.  That’s obviously not always the easiest when we are constantly in motion and on the go as educators.  Like most teachers, I work through my lunch almost every day and eat my sandwich or yogurt while I’m grading papers or writing lesson plans.  However, I have found that spending a couple hours on the weekend meal prepping has helped tremendously.  Pinterest has TONS of great meal prep ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.  I’ve found so many great healthy recipes just from scrolling on Pinterest for a few minutes.  Most can be done in the crock pot, or even in one pan and put in the oven.  And they will give you meals for at least two or three nights during the week for dinner.  Another thing I’ve discovered at my school is the salad bar in the student cafeteria.  We have fresh salads made upon request that are so delicious and are full of nutrition, and they are only $4.25.  I usually buy one twice a week for lunch.  My coworkers also rave over the personal salads from Trader Joe’s.  I’ve never tried them myself, but everyone says how great they are and are also only $4.50.  When you are eating better, your body reaps the benefits in so many ways and you will just feel better overall.
