British trans people and our allies: write to your MP!
Just before Parliament was dissolved, the Conservative health secretary Victoria Atkins put in place an immediate ban on the prescription of puberty blockers to trans and questioning youth, with a penalty of up to two years in prison. The new Labour health secretary Wes Streeting has said he wants to make this ban permanent. The Good Law Project is challenging this ban in court. Find out more about the situation here.
It's important that, if you can, you write to your MP to let them know how you feel about this and ask them to speak out against it. It's really easy to write to your MP using the website WriteToThem - you don't even have to know the name of your MP; just put in your postcode and it'll tell you.
I'm not going to include a template letter to send, as lots of people sending an identical email tends to be very ineffective at getting an MP's attention and convincing them that a lot of people do actually care about an issue. Unique, individually written emails are much more powerful. But I want to emphasise how easy and doable it is to write to your MP in your own words: there's no set way you have to do it, you don't have to worry about being super formal if you don't want to be, and any personal touch you add is likely to make your email much more persuasive than a copy-pasted template, not less.
If you want to write but are truly stumped as to how to start, here are some ideas to think about:
Specify your personal connection to the issue: whether you're trans yourself, or the parent/sibling/friend/cousin/etc of a trans person. Obviously you don't have to do this - not everyone is comfortable outing themselves this way. You can of course just state that you're a “trans ally” or “someone deeply concerned with trans equality” or “someone deeply concerned with the transphobic trajectory the UK is taking” or something like that. It often helps to emphasise that the issue you're writing about is one that you as an individual care strongly about.
Similarly, if you have a personal story about trans healthcare, especially puberty blockers, feel free to use it. Don't ramble on and on, of course, but personal stories of your experience with an issue often help to make your message more impactful.
Make clear how you feel about the ban on puberty blockers. You can be as concise as you like; there's no obligation to write an essay if you don't want to. If you feel very strongly, say so. You don't have to mince words.
Use the Good Law Project's pages for inspiration on phrasing and arguments if that helps. The GLP has several pages on their site on this issue (here is a good one, and here is another). It's best not to just copy their exact wording, but it can be very useful as inspiration for the kind of points you might want to make.
Don't abuse your MP. You can write in very strong terms without lowering yourself to sending abuse, threats, insults etc at your MP. That kind of thing only guarantees they won't listen to you sympathetically.
Ask your MP to take a specific action. In this case, the action is likely to be “speak out against the ban on puberty blockers”. It helps to give your MP a specific Thing you're asking them to do, to avoid sending a rambling email that only makes them think “ok but what do you want me to do about it?”
If you can, find out a bit about your MP and tailor your letter accordingly. There are some MPs who are consistently really good at supporting trans rights and it probably doesn't help to instinctively go on the attack with someone who is already our ally. In that case, you can thank them for their support so far, state how important it is to you that they have been a trans ally, and ask them to continue their support by speaking out on this issue. With some MPs, especially the new ones, it's really hard to find out their stance on trans rights, but you can do a little sleuthing by searching their Twitter, googling “[MP name] trans (/rights)”, and seeing their voting record at TheyWorkForYou.
If you're writing to a Labour MP, and the issue of trans rights is an obstacle to you voting Labour, you can tell them that. If you no longer feel that you can trust Labour to support your rights as a trans person (or trans rights more generally), you can say so. If Labour has lost your vote over this particular issue, you can say so. If you have voted Labour in the past but didn't do so this year because of its stances on trans rights, you can say so. There are lots of new Labour MPs in this Parliament and many of them have relatively small majorities. Don't be afraid to be explicit that Labour has lost your vote because of its lack of support for trans people, if that is in fact the case. They need to know that this is an issue that people care enough about that it affects the way they vote.
Equally, if your MP is someone you voted for on the basis of their or their party's support for trans rights (for example a Lib Dem or a Green), say that too. Again, MPs like to know the issues that voters care about so much that it sways their vote.
Remember: transphobes are writing to your MP. If you think “ugh, what will just one letter do”, remember that bigots who work against us are very good at writing to MPs to try to sway their opinions. If an MP receives 30 letters from transphobes and 0 letters from trans people and allies, they will think the bulk of their constituents - at least the vocal ones - support the transphobic position. Even a short letter lets them know that actually, there are voters out there who want them to act in support of trans people. Don't let the transphobic voice be the only voice an MP gets to hear.
And if you want some further reading on the Cass Review, the document that Wes Streeting is pointing to in an attempt to justify the ban (which is nuts because the review, while deeply deeply flawed, doesn't even recommend this ban anyway), may I suggest...

A Shout-Out to the “Manga in Libraries” Guide
Tumblr media
For those who don’t know, I’m a fan of borrowing manga from my local library. I’m very thankful that I’m in a situation where my library has managed to hold off budget cuts every year. And more importantly, there’s some damn good librarians in New York City who care about manga. Around 2021, I found out about a librarian in my area specializing in Japanese pop culture who started a website curating information on how to advocate for manga in libraries. The librarian’s name was Jillian Rudes, who has gone on to do amazing things in the North American library scene for manga. She’s the founder of Manga in Libraries and earlier this year, she released a book for teen librarians called “Manga in Libraries: A Guide for Teen Librarians” on how to get started in promoting manga for educational purposes at their respective library branches.
I managed to borrow a copy from my library and I’ll say that it’s a solid resource.
At first, I was surprised at the size of the book (it’s about 130+ pages) because I was somewhat expecting a huge book due to reading various large books on manga over the years. Don’t be fooled though because there’s a lot of great information found carefully catered to the librarian and educator audiences. Jillian starts off by saying “Why Manga?” followed by a introduction to manga itself, how the text needs to be read, the various genres, U.S. publishers, etc.
The book is followed by chapters on developing a manga collection in a library, representation in manga, social-emotional learning, manga programming, and teaching in manga. Several interviews with notable manga experts are featured as well.
While every chapter is great, the strongest parts of the guide in my opinion are the chapters on social-emotional learning and teaching in manga. Jillian does an excellent job in explaining the core concepts of SEL and how they can be applied to libraries. She even discusses topics like emotional intelligence and the feelings wheel as well. Jillian makes a powerful case in how manga supports SEL using Komi Can’t Communicate as an example.
Jillian would later highlight Komi Can’t Communicate among other titles when she discusses how to use manga as a teaching tool in the classroom. She provides a template on how to go about creating a course on manga using her own experience in teaching manga to 12th graders at her school. It’s a very thorough one as Jillian explains specific activities she would incorporate to slowly get students engaged in learning through manga over a certain amount of weeks. The payoff is getting students REALLY involved in the teaching/learning process as they are told to create their own manga reading guides for the manga titles being discussed in their class.
As someone who doesn’t work in a library, I can only speak for the two chapters on SEL and teaching manga honestly because of my experiences and background in researching community-based initiatives for mental health. I’m all about thoughtful reflection with the help of peers and support systems outside of healthcare. I think Jillian does a wonderful job in explaining how manga can help in that area with those 2 chapters.
Reading the Manga in Libraries guide makes me glad that there are people who are trying to promote manga to teenagers in an educational manner. I think manga can change young lives for the better and I’ve seen it over time. Personally, I credit reading comics at a young age that got me on a journey to become a lifelong reader. I also like that the Manga in Libraries guide is in print because trying to find information on manga online can be a bit of a mess and very scattered. Jillian manages to condense a lot of resources in an easy-to-find manner for her guide.
Jillian makes a note in the end of the book that reading manga can create joy for those who read it. I believe it does for many people, especially teens who often feel out of place in the world we live in. And on that note, the Manga in Libraries guide is a joy that anyone interested in and/or advocating for manga education should not pass up on.

Have a Heart Day Letter to Canadian Government to Help Indigenous Kids 2023
This is the letter I wrote to the government of Canada, asking them to stop discriminating against First Nations children and families on reserves, and asking them to stop taking First Nations children from their loving families. All the research is from the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society, whose website is here: https://fncaringsociety.com
You can read the following letter and please, please, even if you don’t live in Canada send a letter of your own, either using this letter as a template or in your own words:
Our names are and we are from various parts of so-called Canada. We are writing to you to ask that you end the discrimination against First Nations children, so that all First nations children can grow up safe, healthy, well educated, and with their families who love them, who they have grown up with and grown attached to. We ask that you fund all services on reserves better, especially child and family services, Jordan's Principle services, and education. We ask that you ensure there is no discrimination in any of the services provided to First Nations people and that all organizations providing access to services on reserves are free of racism and discrimination. We ask that you implement the Spirit Bear Plan. And we also ask that you fairly compensate all children and families who have faced harm as a result of the Canadian government's unfair practices.
Child and Family services on reserves are underfunded. They are also prejudiced. This means that instead of helping families with what they need to in order to best take care of their children, they take children away from families that love them and put them in foster care. Families struggling with poverty or mental health or addictions or disabilities still love their children. These families should not be separated, they should be helped so that they can have their needs met. Indigenous children are 17 times more likely to be separated from their families compared to non-Indigenous children. But they are not more likely to face familial abuse. The reason why the vast majority of these kids are being separated is because their families are poor, struggling with mental illness or addiction or disability, or some combination of these factors. If child and family service providers were better funded and more culturally respectful, they would be able to help families meet their children’s needs instead of taking children away.
Most services on reserves, including services for disabled kids, healthcare services, and mental health services, are funded by the federal government. But these services are often underfunded, often severely. There are also many times when First Nations families living on reserves need to access provincial services. When this happens, there are often long disputes between provincial and federal governments about who should pay. This leads to children not receiving the healthcare and services they need, or having long gaps and delays in receiving healthcare and services.
Jordan’s Principle was implemented to ensure that all children receive timely and adequate healthcare and services first and payment disputes are resolved in a way that doesn’t affect children’s access to services. But this principle has been implemented in a very narrow way by the government and many children who needed services and healthcare under Jordan’s Principle did not receive those services. Many children who did receive services did not receive them in a timely manner.
Education on reserves is also underfunded, and First Nations children on reserves do not have access to safe, comfy schools and high quality education. They do not have environments where they can learn all that they can and reach their full potential. This is horrifically unfair, since every child has an equal right to education and every child has an equal right to good quality education where they can learn, grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.
Education needs funding. You need to have enough teachers, small class sizes, and heating in classrooms. You need books, textbooks, school supplies and a library. You need a whiteboard, markers and erasers. You need good bathrooms. It really helps to have smartboards like settler schools have. You need a gym, sports equipment, art supplies, and a safe playground. You need a lab with equipment. You need therapists, nurses, counselors and educational assistants. You need money for field trips. You often need snacks. You need learning toys like base ten blocks for younger kids. First Nations children cannot afford everything that they need to learn effectively.
The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal has ordered the government of Canada to stop discriminating against First Nations children. It has ordered that Canada stop taking children from their loving homes and that they stop denying services and healthcare to children who need them. The government has mostly not listened to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal’s rulings.
An Agreement in Principle is not a binding agreement. It simply is a set of promises that may or may not be turned into a binding agreement. The Canadian government created an Agreement in Principle with First Nations groups including the Assembly of First Nations to fund and support First Nations child and family service providers adequately so that these service providers could help struggling families instead of separating them. They also agreed to fund and support Jordan’s Principle better so that every child who needs services or healthcare can receive it. The government promised to conduct regular reviews of First Nations child and family service providers and Jordan’s Principle providers to check for discrimination, and to have accountability measures for any discrimination that occurs. They promised to reform Indigenous Services Canada to be less discriminatory and more culturally respectful.
While all these ideas are great, these are just ideas at this point. There is no binding agreement yet. The government promised to do these things but no one knows if they’ll keep these promises. A Final Settlement Agreement on reform, which will be legally binding, is being worked towards. But that Agreement has not been made yet and we do not know what the Final Settlement Agreement will include, if it will stay true to the promises made in the Agreement in Principle, or if it will be effective in keeping children holistically healthy and with their families.
The Canadian government has created a Final Settlement Agreement on compensation where it will compensate some of the victims of Canada’s discrimination against First Nations children and families. While this is good, many victims will not be given the $40 000 in compensation that the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal has stated that all victims must receive, and many victims will not be compensated at all. Victims that will not be compensated include children who were placed in provincial programs after being separated from their families, the estates of deceased parents or caregiving grandparents, and many people who were denied the help they needed under Jordan’s Principle. There is only $20 billion set aside for compensating families who were discriminated against, which may not be enough to give everyone the $40 000 they are entitled to. And if you want to opt out of the Final Settlement Agreement on compensation and instead claim your $40 000 ordered by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, you only have until February to opt out, and people don’t have the information and guidance they need in order to decide if they want to opt out or not.
It’s not only education, healthcare, child welfare, and disability support services that are underfunded on reserves. All social services on reserves are underfunded. This includes housing services, childcare services, after school programs, utilities services, mental health and addictions support, welfare, and more. This means that families living in poverty have less help and support in order to pull themselves out of poverty and the cycle of poverty continues. It also means that families that need mental health supports don’t receive them. This is bad for children because living in poverty or with bad mental health is not something any child deserves and also because poverty and mental health are often the reasons why children get ripped away from their families and put into foster care. And obviously, being separated from your family is way worse than living in poverty is.
You must ensure that you do the following things:
-Fund First Nations Child and Family Service providers as much as each service provider needs in order to help families to stay together and have their needs met. For example, if a family is suffering from poverty, child and family service providers need to have the money needed to support that family financially instead of taking the child away. If a family is living in bad housing, child and family services needs the funds to improve their housing instead of taking the child away.
-Ensure that all First Nations child and family service providers - and service providers on reserves in general - are non-discriminatory, are routinely and thoroughly checked for any discrimination within the organizations, and that there is accountability and consequences for any discriminatory conduct, policies, or attitudes that are ever found or reported in these organizations.
-Ensure that a broad implementation of Jordan’s Principle is carried out so that every child who ever needs any services, healthcare, or support always receives it.
-Ensure that the system for providing Jordan’s Principle services to people is well-funded, easy to navigate, and non-discriminatory.
-Create a Final Settlement Agreement on child and family service reform and Jordan’s Principle reform that goes above and beyond everything suggested in the Agreement in Principal on reform.
-Ensure that all children, parents, and caregiving grandparents, living or deceased, who have been discriminated against in any way by the Canadian government receive their owed $40 000 compensation. This includes children who were placed in the provincial care system and everyone who did not receive the services they were owed through Jordan’s Principle.
-Fund all services on reserves so that the needs of every person living on reserves can be met.
-Implement the Spirit Bear Plan.
-Fund education on reserves better so that it is of the same quality as education off reserves.

The Job Portal Advantage: Why Every Job Seeker Needs One
In today's dynamic job market, finding the right job can be a daunting task. The days of scanning newspapers for job listings and sending out paper resumes are long gone. Enter the digital age of job hunting, where job portals have become indispensable tools for job seekers. In this blog, we'll explore the significant advantages of using job portals and why every job seeker should leverage them in their quest for professional success.
Extensive Job Listings
One of the primary advantages of job portals is their vast database of job listings. These platforms aggregate job openings from a wide range of industries and companies, providing job seekers with a diverse selection of opportunities. Whether you're looking for a position in IT, healthcare, marketing, or any other field, job portals have you covered.
Streamlined Search Process
Job portals streamline the job search process significantly. Instead of scouring multiple websites or newspapers, you can use search filters to narrow down your options based on criteria like location, industry, job type, and salary range. This efficiency saves you time and ensures you only see job listings relevant to your interests and qualifications.
Customized Job Alerts
Job portals offer the convenience of setting up job alerts. You can input your preferences, and the portal will notify you of new job listings that match your criteria. This feature ensures that you don't miss out on potential opportunities, even when you're not actively browsing the portal.
Access to Company Insights
Many job portals provide valuable insights into prospective employers. You can read company reviews, view ratings, and gather information about the company's culture, values, and work environment. This knowledge helps you make informed decisions about which organizations align with your career goals and values.
Online Application and Resume Submission
Gone are the days of printing out resumes and mailing them to employers. Job portals allow you to create and submit your resume online. You can tailor your resume to specific job listings and apply with just a few clicks. This digital convenience speeds up the application process and increases your chances of being noticed by recruiters.
Networking Opportunities
Job portals often have built-in networking features. You can connect with professionals in your field, join relevant groups, and participate in discussions. Networking through job portals can lead to valuable connections, mentorship opportunities, and even job referrals.
Interview and Resume Resources
Many job portals offer resources to help job seekers enhance their interview and resume-building skills. From sample interview questions to resume templates, these resources empower you to present yourself effectively to potential employers.
Privacy and Control
Job seekers have control over the information they share on job portals. You can choose what details to include in your profile and who can view it. This level of privacy protection ensures that your job search remains discreet if needed.
Conclusion
In the digital age of job hunting, job portals are invaluable tools for job seekers. Their extensive job listings, streamlined search processes, customized alerts, and networking opportunities make them indispensable for professionals in every industry. If you're on the hunt for a new career opportunity, harness the advantages of job portals to maximize your chances of landing your dream job. Whether you're a recent graduate, a seasoned professional, or someone looking to change careers, job portals are the key to unlocking a world of possibilities in today's competitive job market. Start exploring the job portal advantage today and take the next step towards your career goals.

Here's an example.
I am currently unemployed and not receiving unemployment.
I do want to be employed again. I went through a time when I was having a health scare so I wasn't really looking, but I eventually got some help with that (because I had figured out Medicaid application, after some time; it's through the state healthcare exchange for me.)
But, my teeth are still bad. Like, noticeably.
I'm really afraid that if I go interview I will just not be hired. Maybe that's not legal, but who is going to put someone with bad teeth in any customer-facing position? (Which most entry level everything is.)
So, I looked and found out that in my area, if one has Medicaid, then a separate dental program is available.
So, I was happy for a bit, thinking, OK, maybe this is just another website and maybe some forms like with the healthcare exchange. I look into it. There is a site where one registers.
I did that.
But, they do not assign you a 'home' dentist. Even if you get the ID card, it's like the 'home' dentist apparently (?) populates from an alphabetical list unless you select one of the providers.
OK, so there's a provider list.
But it's a list of all dentists who participate in the program in any capacity. It is not an indication of dentists who may accept you specifically. And there's so far as I can tell no filters. Like, there sorta are search filters, but it's not for "accepts patients your age".
From what I can tell, it seems to be that the idea is that you the patient will dial phone numbers and go down this whole provider list asking dentists to accept you?
Like, this was not how the general healthcare worked. In that system it was like OK pick one of these big national medical center type providers and you'll receive an ID card and assigned doctor and this big medical center chain has helpful websites so that once you do figure them out, you rarely have to use phones.
The dental thing is not that.
So, I was copying the text of dentists with phones and addresses and pasting into google and searching to see if they had websites with more info. Most do not even have one. Who in business does not have some online presence?
OK, some do. They are the cringiest stock template websites with email forms that are non-functional!
(But I who at one time bothered to study web design before everything just went to templates and apps am unemployed?)
Anyway, I finally get a dentist who has a working email. They CALL me days later. Ask a few questions. I answer. "Oh? We don't work with patients your age."
I suspect a lot of these dentists participate in the program in order to treat low-income children. Which is fine.
I wouldn't want to mess with a middle-aged person's gross rotting teeth. Except, I am that person! Like, I drank [redacted] brand cola all day from like tween years into like my 30s? I have a history of depression. I had old-school metal braces as a teen that didn't actually straighten my teeth but left marks on them. My town doesn't put fluoride in the drinking water.
So, then, I'm like, I have no idea how to find if any of these dentists actually will accept me. I tried emailing the support email of the program's site itself to ask if I wasn't understanding a filter. No response I can see.
So, I start looking at charities. Or dental schools.
There's like 'affordable' dentistry at a state university but it's a big drive for me in my 17-year-old car, there still is a fee, and you commit to a several-hour visit because the students need to slowly go through all the things. And that's just an initial visit, no guarantee they get to the actual work you need, which would mean more visits and more gas money I don't have.
OK, a clinic? There is one. It's not really for people who have coverage of any sort. To be accepted you have to fill out a form about 'household' income. Well, I live with family, but we don't share money. How am I meant to fill that out?
Meanwhile, no one in my family has been 'the poor' as much as me. They've been a little poor at times but eventually employed. None of them have ANY idea how assistance programs work. So, I can't ask them for help with how this is supposed to work.
Even saying this, I am feeling like someone is going to read and just be like: "Why not get a job where you work in the back and not with customers?" "Why can't you make phone calls?" "Where's your husband?"
Where is that job? I had a job in an upholstery workroom that I lost because the whole upholstery department (mainly me) was not profitable and just went away. Sure, I would like to find a job like that, if I could, but like, that's the same job I lost and have trauma about losing.
I can physically make phone calls, but the amount of psyching up and the amount that it drains all of my mental energy does not make phone calling in any sense cost-effective for me, especially if the expectation is I go down a whole list of numbers.
Like, why can't there be functioning online forms? Or a main office where a social worker tells you what sort of dentist will accept you?
Why doesn't the dentist office within WALKING distance of me accept patients through my program? Those nice dentists in town that people know from church?
(Yes, I know the demands that medicaid and related programs can make on providers are not ideal. Like, there can be annoying pre-approval procedures or low reimbursement. But actual people still need providers. If the governments gives those providers more (which may be fair) then you know who complains? Taxpayers complaining that assistance programs cost too much.)
Why can't single people who sometimes have entry-level employment afford to live anywhere? (Like, I get that I am fortunate to be at my parent's house for now, but it is NOT a mentally healthy situation.)
Anyway, so like, there are programs that exist. But they really can range in functionality and accessibility. Also, it's not always apparent that help is available. So first, one has to really search, in some cases. And then, even if you know a program exists, there can be steps in applying and getting approved/accepted. And even if technically you receive a benefit like limited dental coverage, it can kinda be meaningless if you can't find a dentist near you that works with both you and that program.

The Cass Review: Cis-Supremacy in the UK's Approach to Healthcare for Trans Children
is a brilliant academic article by Dr Cal Horton, the full body of which can be found here.
For non-UK folk wondering what on earth is going on, the Cass Review is a recently released report about healthcare for trans and gender-questioning kids written entirely by cis people, the recommendations of which are being used right now to justify further restrictions on trans healthcare, including “pausing” all new prescriptions for puberty blockers in the youth gender services.
This article breaks down very thoroughly the biggest ways in which this review is dogshit and has transphobic bias baked in at the most basic level. The results section is a long (but worthwhile) read, but if you have less time, the much shorter discussion and conclusion sections summarise the results.
It's a great resource if you've vaguely heard about “this thing called the Cass Review” and want to know what its issues are but don't want to wade through hundreds of pages of transphobic dogwhistling. It's particularly useful to cite or quote if you're contacting your political representatives and want to back up your claims.* Horton is very good at stating perfectly unambiguously the massive problems with this review in ways that support trans lives and don't try to “both-sides” the issue.
*And I strongly encourage you to do so if you're in the UK; the website WriteToThem makes it very easy. This website contains useful information and a template email that is Scotland-specific, but obviously you can adapt it to fit the particular situations of the other UK nations.
Choice quotes include (highlights mine):
“Within the Cass Review anti-trans prejudice is not acknowledged as a problem or a threat to trans children. Across several reports the Cass Review centres the concerns of non-affirmative professionals, including those who do not believe in the existence of trans children. The existence of anti-trans prejudice amongst healthcare professionals is well-documented in existing literature and Cass Review reports indeed provide clear indication of professional ignorance or prejudice. However, across Cass Review reports, there is no instance where professional views on trans children are identified as ill-informed or prejudiced or are rejected from inclusion in the review. Instead, the views of ignorant or pathologising professionals seeking support for non-affirming practice with trans children are presented with sympathy. There is no parallel consideration of the rights or welfare of trans children, nor discussion of an NHS duty of care to protect trans children from being harmed by professionals who reject the validity or existence of trans lives. The Cass approach welcomes all views, including those grounded in ignorance, pathologisation or denial of the existence of trans children.”
“Pathologisation of gender diversity can be seen across Cass Review outputs. Entrenched cisnormativity and problematisation of transness leads to the Cass Review prioritising the research questions about transness that trouble cis people. The Cass Review does not centre trans community research priorities such as enhancing depathologised access to safe and effective healthcare for trans children. This leads the Cass Review into research priorities that are more philosophical than medical, questions on epidemiology of transness, aetiology or identity persistence. The Cass Review is able to step beyond (and deprioritise) the domains of effective trans healthcare for trans children, by the Review’s failure to recognise trans children as a core stakeholder group, enabling the very existence of trans children to be a valid topic of cis curiosity. Whilst the Cass Review decentres and delegitimises its core target population (trans children), their health and welfare needs are secondary to curiosity on how children came to identify as trans and whether or when they will stop.”
“The NICE evidence reviews chaired by Dr Cass both utilised an approach where only evidence like randomised controlled trials are considered high quality evidence. In a field where RCTs are recognised as infeasible and unethical, in a field where “high quality evidence” does not and may never exist, we may be left to wonder, has this evidence review really served to enlighten and inform decision making in trans healthcare? Those interested in maximising trans children’s well-being would look at all available sources of evidence, and use the best quality existing evidence to inform decision making. Instead, the absence of a type of “high quality” evidence is used by the Cass Review to conclude that “evidence on the appropriate management of children and young people with gender incongruence and dysphoria is inconclusive.” Such statements have legitimised the closure of current trans children’s healthcare services for England and Wales, with no services currently operational. [Since the publication of this article, this is also now true for Scotland.] The Cass approach places so much emphasis on uncertainties, unknowns, areas without consensus and the absence of “high quality evidence” that it can be read as an argument against affirmative healthcare for trans children. A cisnormative double standard can also be seen, where evidence-based affirmative approaches are dismissed with calls for RCT standard evidence, whilst non-affirmative theories and policies are introduced and endorsed with no or limited evidence.”
“The Cass Review overall can be considered an example of cis-ignorance, a concept recognised in trans healthcare, where “ignorance is not simply an absence of knowledge, but an epistemic practice in its own right” (Mikulak, p. 827). Mikulak recognises that “practices of ignorance are often entangled with practices of exclusion and oppression”. Cis-ignorance can be seen in the Cass Review’s decision to exclude trans expertise, in the choice to appoint leadership without experience or knowledge, and in the valuing of insights from healthcare professionals who do not even believe in the existence of trans children. Cis-ignorance is apparent in the cisnormative framing of research questions, where research on the meaning of identity or the epidemiology of transness are perceived as important research priorities, and in the erasure of trans children from the Review’s stated target group, leaving trans children’s existence a topic of debate. Cis-ignorance can be seen in the citation of discredited research, forcing affirmative researchers to continually re-dispute the same literature that has been critiqued so many times, including in peer reviewed literature, preventing the field from moving forwards. Cis-ignorance can be seen in a futile search for consensus in a polarised field, setting out (with time, resources, and establishment credentials) to reach an objective of building consensus that is doomed from the start. Cis-ignorance can be seen in the dismissal of existing knowledge, framing the whole of trans healthcare as “inconclusive,” “unknown” or risky, and in calls for infeasible and unethical RCT or blinded control studies. Observers may wonder whether cis-ignorance is intentional and abusive, or careless and ill-informed. Regardless of intent, it manifests as an exertion of cis power over trans communities, in a National Health Service that continues to fail to uphold trans people’s rights to equality in healthcare.”
Anyway, I encourage you to go read Horton's article if you have the time and inclination; it's an excellent elucidation of the major issues in a dangerous review that has the potential to make healthcare for trans people in the UK even worse than it already is.

Why It's Good to Have a Unique Website
In today's digital era, a website is not just about finding valuable information; it may be the first impression of the brand that the customer gets. And in this huge competition, where millions are fighting to capture eyeballs, a unique website makes all the difference in either engaging a visitor or losing them to a competitor. In this aspect, herein is an examination of why unique websites play a major role in branding, creating experience improvement, and increasing SEO for businesses that would make them loyal customers.
1. Brand Identity Strengthening
Your website probably garners the most direct look at your brand's identity. In such a cluttered marketplace, a unique website separates your business through the emulation of core values and USPs both visually and functionally. This is where a brand-specific design uses colors, fonts, and layouts that come across in the business's personality and resonance with its target audience. Consider Apple's website: it is clean and minimalistic, which speaks volumes about innovative solutions, quality, and simplicity. Any user who opens Apple's website immediately gets the understanding of what this brand is. This is a kind of powerful identity that every business needs, which wants to be trusted and stay in customers' memories.
2. Developing Credibility and Professionalism
A uniquely designed professional website speaks about the sense of professionalism and credibility required. Of course, people will believe in a business with a professional and thoughtfully crafted website rather than some uninteresting and general-looking one. It is highly required in those fields where trust is the real issue, such as healthcare, finance, or any other legal services.
It only takes 0.05 seconds for people visiting a website to decide whether to reach for that back button. A great design, professional-looking visuals, ease of navigation, and quality content will show that the company respects its online presence and the customers who will come into it.
3. Improve the User Experience
User experience is the prime factor responsible for the success of a website. Many a unique website caters specifically to user needs and is built on a design which lets them find what they want, view key information, or perform at least some sort of action. An attractive UX keeps the visitor on the site for an extended period and persuades them to come back. You push them even further with personal design elements and layout that appeal to their taste toward taking the desired action, be it making a purchase, subscribing to newsletters, or booking consultations. On the other hand, a customized booking system for a particular service provider means less hassle for clients to make an appointment without having to leave the site.
4. Supporting SEO Efforts
SEO is important in driving more traffic to your site, but it could get an extreme boost should your website look different from others. This is because unique websites use custom layouts and structures geared more toward best practices in SEO: loading speeds, mobile compatibility, and clean code. A highly valued user-friendly website can record lower bounce rates, boosting the influence it has on search engine rankings. Besides, unique content and imagery relevant to your brand can organically attract much traffic and make the existence of your brand online so much stronger. Google likes unique high-quality content, and therefore, sites that have invested in a custom design, blog content, and engaging visuals often yield far better search rankings than other companies relying on generic, template-based sites.
5. Conversion Optimization Supported
A website designed only for your target audience might do much good in improving conversion rates. This allows for custom designing in placing the CTAs at strategic places, designing persuasive sales funnels, and creating smooth customer journeys.
For example, an e-commerce website may have special product pages including items supported with high-quality images, 360-degree views, and customer reviews. Obviously, buyers will develop more trust and gain better confidence. Customization can achieve higher conversion rates here because the website removes purchase barriers and allows the visitor to have a more enjoyable experience. On the contrary, the generic site doesn't possess those elements which may be necessary for full user engagement, hence it loses the conversion possibilities.
6. Better Fulfillment of Your Business Needs
That means the site would be cut to your size, so it grows with you as your company evolves. Generally speaking, bespoke websites are more flexible than templated sites, since features can be extended, content further added, and functionality scaled up without many restrictions due to a premade structure.
For instance, you might want to add a customer relationship management system, an e-commerce site, or a client portal to your website as your company begins to grow. This is achievable through unique website design, while in template sites this could include a lot of editing and even rebuilding the site to bear the extra functions.
7. Cash In Being Different
This obviously has an advantage in a high competitive online marketplace. If shoppers use the internet with the purpose of searching for something to buy, very often they get plenty of answers. A professional website will be head and shoulders above the competition because it enables prospects to readily see your value proposition. For instance, two cafes sell the same drinks and pastries, but the one that has an attractive website and is loaded with interactive visual elements, custom graphics, and a smoothly-sailing menu will probably steal a thousand miles ahead of its competitor with a "no-frills" template site. Unique branding and customized experiences simply seal the deal on why people should be coming to them compared to other places.
8. Crafting Shareable, Memorable Content
Unique sites more often than not contain a lot of shared content and features, such as custom-made videos, infographics, or even interactive elements that create a memorable experience for the users. They then go on to share the sites with other people, hence passing on your brand's reach organically. Consider, for instance, a wellness website that contains interactive utilities, such as a health calculator or quiz. Such sites will have people participating in activities that they might not be interested in if they were placed on a standard website. That fact alone can help create a larger amount of flow and community for your brand. The stranger and more valuable the content is, the better it is that the content will go viral on social media and increase your brand presence.
9. Stay Relevant; Update Often
A unique website allows keeping pace with time-changing trends in web design and user preferences. The design trends are ever-changing, so are the user's expectations. For this reason, custom websites make it rather easy to adjust the updates without losing sight of your brand identity. When anyone has full control over the design of the site, one is able to add new elements, renew the layout, or change the color scheme at any time. The template websites allow very minimal changes, further limiting updates that may be damaging to the freshness of your website. Regular updates will keep the user experience of your website fresh; hence, it will be a reliable source for your audience.
10. Full Ownership and Control
He owns a unique website, including all the constituents of design, content, and features. It gives complete control in his hands. He will be able to mold it according to the ever-changing needs of his business, embed new technologies, or enhance the user experience without shackling himself with the limitation of third-party platforms. By maintaining ownership over your website, you’re also safeguarding your brand against the risks of template-driven platforms that might remove features, limit customization, or face downtime. A unique, self-hosted website provides long-term stability, reliability, and the freedom to grow without restrictions.
Conclusion
A unique website is an investment in your business' future. More than good looks, it provides great brand identity, improved user experience, more SEO opportunities, and even higher conversion rates when you work with web design subscription services. With complete control over design and functionality, a unique website can ultimately help businesses adapt, innovate, and rise above the growing noise online. For those businesses who want to make that memorable first impression, a unique website is not just a good idea, but a necessary one.

Is Your Business Ready for the Revolution? Discover No Code Chatbots with Wabo and Wabo AI!
Tumblr media
Technology has taken us to a stage when having an in-house developer to develop anything for the web is not a must. Those days are history now. With the abundance of no-code tools businesses can manage most of the web development needs such as websites, applications, and also no code chatbots.

A no code chatbot is a type of chatbot (computer program) that can be designed and implemented without the requirement of extensive programming knowledge by using drag-and-drop interfaces. The major benefit of a no code chatbot is, businesses of all sizes can leverage the power of AI to transform customer service and take it to a different level.

Should You Go for No Code Chatbots?
Apart from what we have already mentioned, no code chatbots come with huge advantages. Such as:
Saving of Time and Hassles
No-code tools come with a visual interface and pre-built templates that users can use easily by simply dragging and dropping to create the chatbot. Businesses become more agile as it does not only include building the bot but also the testing process as it allows the builder to visualize the end result.
This eliminates the need for complex testing activities. Businesses reduce development and deployment times and easily test and go live in a matter of days or hours instead of weeks or months with coding.
Reduced Expenses
Hiring a single developer or a team of developers is expensive and many businesses, especially medium or small ones, cannot afford it. No code chatbot is an effective and cost-effective solution for them.
Pre-Built Templates
No-code tools not only offer easy to use and visual interface but many come with pre-made templates for different uses such as lead generation, basic customer support, product suggestions, surveys, and much more.
The templates are also customizable as per business needs and brand image. For example, users have the option to adjust the text and colors, add emojis or even GIFs and more.
