i think the toughest part for me during all this is how fast it's been. going from being totally normal but with gas/bloating/farting....to suddenly having no gas/bloating/farting but experiencing difficulty breathing and high heartrate one time when i ate too much. then during the week having that happen more and more every time i ate. and then having it happen even if i ate hardly anything. and then starting the probiotics the next week and having that solve the difficulty breathing issue but introduce other side effects. and eventually getting to the point where that nerve pain and extreme reduced ability to move my legs/arms and mental confusion was a constant rather than just when i ate. i have felt so helpless through this whole thing and the doctors kept saying 'wait a week for your appointment and get a referral' while the ER was saying 'you need to see a specialist NOW'. and every day i was waiting it got worse. its just so frustrating because if i had been able to see a real doctor on the 27th of july when i ended up in the ER the first time, so much of this pain might have been slowed or prevented. im sitting here being dizzy and unable to do basic things like clean my house or move around much and am looking forward to spending the next four days just trying to survive till i can see a doctor.
my lovely neighbor went out and bought me these drinks called 'orgain' so im drinking that now and just hoping desperately its not going to trigger anything
#jrnlsht#i have an apppointment monday#i finally got fed up with insurance and found a private GI specialist in beverly hills lmao#grandma is gonna help me figure out how to financially afford it and hope that i wont have to pay thousands for the tests#but soooooo many patients dont even have that option of relatives who can help#this is common enough that when i explained my situation to the private doctors office#they said that they were acustomed to getting people with state health*care who were in emergency situations and couldnt wait#there are much better doctors in places like the hun*tington hospital but they are not allowed to accept cash#because if you are on state health*care you are not supposed to have money to pay cash to see a doctor even in emergency situations#its so profoundly stupid#like yes im on state healthcare because i cant afford 300$ a month insurance payments while unemployed#but that doesnt mean it isnt worth it to take 400$ out of my savings to see a doctor in an emergency situation#i fucking hate the united states so fucking much

Job hunting is an absolute nightmare because it's like I have a million reasons to need this job and the money from it and it's basically like telling the job that I'm pretty much their bitch because I need the money, and they'll just reject you because you didn't downright worship a company or bc you were honest on the application personality quiz

need to convince myself that i do not need anymore tattoos or piercings before december
i really need to start donating plasma again- it’s a good thing to do but i’m totally doing it for selfish reasons.
not only can i make a bit of extra money by doing nothing, but donating plasma encourages me to actually look after my body- you have to keep your iron and protein counts up and need to be well hydrated before donations. i was at my healthiest when i was donating. it also guaranteed me a few hours a week that were just for me. i could nap, listen to music, study, read, whatever i wanted for those few hours. i feel like it sounds insane that i looked forward to having a machine take my blood and separate it then give it back sans plasma just for a bit of “me time” but i genuinely did. even when i had a vasovagal response to the process i never regretted it. it was quiet time just for me, genuinely relaxing lol
#ramble on exie#it’s kind of sad that my life is at a point where i need to literally sell parts of myself for some peace and quiet#but that’s where we are#i try not to think of it like that because it’s sad lol. i focus on how much good plasma does in healthcare#plus the extra cash is useful. if i feel well enough to donate twice a week then that covers one car payment#i really do miss the ritual of it all. the sign in; the finger test to check your protein; getting set up at the machine;#squeezing the stress ball; watching my blood filter through the machine and the plasma separate out (it’s actually really cool lol)#idk i know i can read and stuff at home but somehow being in the clinic takes the stress away.#when i’m home i feel like i should be cleaning or doing laundry or other endless chores#but the clinic i’m just there to donate and relax. plus they give me juice boxes

Call Your Insurance - benefit questions
I get it, phone calls are scary! Here's some scenarios to show you what to expect when you call your insurance company. Don't be afraid to ask follow up questions - the only 'stupid question' is one you don't ask!
[beginning of call] Insurance rep: Hi, thanks for calling your insurance company, my name is X. How can I help you today? You: Hi, I'm calling to ask about my benefits. Rep: Okay, can I get your member ID number? [you provide] and can you verify your name and date of birth for me? [you verify. they may also ask for your phone number at this point.] Rep: Alright, I've got you pulled up here. What questions do you have today?
[example one] You: I think I need to see a specialist and wanted to know what my benefits are for lab work. Rep: Okay, give me a minute to get that information for you. [answer will obviously vary! they may ask clarifying questions to help find an accurate answer, such as diagnosis/issue you are seeking help for. they may also have to provide a disclaimer that they cannot guarantee benefits quoted] It looks like you have a $45 copay for specialist office visits, and that can include some basic lab work if it is billed on the same claim. If they send it to a separate lab, then your In Network benefit is 80% after deductible. You: Can you check to see if the specialist is In Network? And do I need a referral? Rep: Sure, what's the doctor's name? [they may tell you to verify with the provider if they are In Network, as not all insurance reps will have access to 100% confirm a provider's network contract status, unfortunately.]
[example two] You: I'm going to need surgery. What are my benefits? Rep: I can look that up for you. Where will you be having the surgery? [surgery benefits can depend on whether you are inpatient, outpatient, or in-office] You: At the hospital, I might have to be there a few days. Rep: Okay, inpatient services require precertification. Your doctor will need to start that process by submitting a precert request to our fax number or through our website. The benefit for hospital services is 80% after deductible. It looks like you've already met your deductible, so that means you'll be paying 20% until you hit your out of pocket max, which is $4000 for In Network services. You: Does that include my deductible?
[end of call] Rep: Is there anything else I can help you with today? You: No that's all. Can I get a reference number for the call? [feel free to ask for their name again if you didn't catch it or forgot! some systems don't have reference numbers and just use the rep's name and the date, so its always good to keep notes of when you called, who you spoke with, and what they told you!]
#marie#op#advice#scripting#phone calls#social anxiety#insurance#healthcare#benefits#also btw re: disclaimers#it'll be something like 'this is a general description of benefits and not a guarantee of payment'#its for situations where maybe they quoted INN benefits but you go to an OON doctor.#or other cases when what you talked about on the phone isn't what ended up going down.#as someone who had to give that disclaimer a million times#i hated being like 'yeah trust me you're covered' but also 'probably idk who could say for sure not me your insurance rep apparently'#misquotes do happen#but most of the time you'll get accurate info if you provide clear details about what services you need.#if your doctor can give you the procedure and diagnosis codes that can help a ton when you call your insurance

love how bloodwork for cancer detection can be anywhere between 0-600 dollars. we live in a society.
#lost.txt#and that’s with the insurance#if it decides not to cover it it’s *more*#and they told me they’d charge me *more* if i paid without insurance#because they’d be losing out from interest on a payment plan#like healthcare is evil

TW
just had a conversation at work with someone who was SA and has no insurance
they just want to get checked out and do you know how much std testing costs out of pocket at urgent care? $400-600
planned parenthood its $325 no insurance with a waitlist. at the one this person tried it was a 2 week wait
the results also take at least 4 days to come back from lab unless you go to the hospital which is probably doubled in price
the medical care in this country is a FUCKING JOKE
#i asked if i could offer to pay half of it and my manager told me no#she said we can’t do that once because we can’t do it for everyone#the doctor is currently trying to find resources to help her bc the urgent care i work for will not bill out its payment up front#while calling themselves ‘accessible healthcare’ A JOKE#i’m so angry like my stomach hurts over it

I just did some quick math and the motherfuckers I work for pay me literally exactly enough so that I don't qualify for medicaid. Bastards.
#life of eris#work update#real asshole behavior honestly#considering the manager#not the owner the manager#told us unprompted that he was going to make a payment of nearly 100k on something is january#this bitch has 100k to drop as an expected expense and he isnt worried about it#meanwhile the girl who trained me was deciding between groceries and carpooling or gas and only eating at work this month#i hate it here#i processed literally a dozen orders that cost more than my daily pay#that doesnt count all the others that were almost there#all the sit-in customers#the delivery app orders#we bring in enough to pay all the workers decent money#but gods fucking forbid the owners have to live in a slightly less fancy house#fuck#like this pay level seems specifically designed to keep us struggling#cant afford healthcare don't qualify for assistance cant pay a mortgage and rent requires housemates#they take 5 dollars for food even if we dont eat it and the owners wife wont let us take it home if she catches us#i need this job so i cant say shit about it#and i cant burn the bridge when i leave because its a very well-liled place and if they tell my next employer i have an attitude#it could seriously jeopardize my chances of getting hired somewhere else#evil fucking behavior frankly

in the 6 yrs i’ve lived in the netherlands i haven’t celebrated kingsday even once bc i usually use the free day off to go home or travel somewhere else but every time i mention this to someone they’re like “omg never?? but ur missing out on such a DUTCH experience!!”
as if wading thru crowds of insufferably drunk dutch people celebrating a monarch is my idea of a good time. maybe if they’d use that power in numbers for something constructive like decapitating him i’d join in on the fun
#besides it often lines up with may 1st which is a much more worthwhile thing to celebrate#meanwhile the govt is splitting up the yearly healthcare payments to stimulate people to ‘’postpone treatments’’ :)#as if they don’t have the highest rate of cancer deaths in the eu#anyways death to capitalism monarchy and privatized healthcare#lina laments.txt
