My Favorite Day of the Week: Prison Time
As you know, yesterday was our first meeting with the inmates since our kerfuffles needed unkerfuffling. So, let me get ya'll updated.
First, it was SO fun seeing the guys again. We all missed each other so much! I have a mix of good news and bad news, so I'll start with the bad first: we have two dogs who are terminally ill. The last coordinator didn't get them vetted in time to get them treated and now that our rescue coordinator who is amazing has gotten that done, it's been discovered it's too late. So her rescue organization will sponsor them until end of life and make the call when to euthanize, but for now they are staying with their handlers and if one of them makes it long enough, she will go into a hospice adoption with her handler later this year.
One of our purebreds was transferred to a purebred rescue to give him a better chance at adoption, so in his spot we got this new beautiful dog who, honestly, looks like a coyote wearing socks. She's so sweet and might be a service dog candidate with Tadsaw, that remains to be seen.
As for the dogs and handlers, like I said, we were all very excited. We got a new location due to some issues with the old one (prison things, warden went over it) and while it's smaller, it should be fine until the weather cools. We're hoping to get a second room and split into two groups to get more space.
Our two shyest dogs are more open and happy, bonded with their handlers. One of them even made a friend with our third lifer dog, Pie (due to having been in for three years, he's mostly unadoptable as he'd have too much separation anxiety. The rescue is sponsoring him as well but he's expected to live a long happy life with his handler). Which means Pie gets extra exercise (he's a fat boi who is working on it and gradually showing improvement).
Our crazy girl Mauve is doing so well on her leash skills! All the dogs are working leash skills this week and next week, as that is one of if not the most common reason to return a dog. We'll also be using my body language 101 handout as homework next week so we can go over that with the handlers.
We'll be adding back up handlers soon per dog, so that there's never a stranger with them. And as inmates go in and out we'll have more ready to go trained handlers for each batch of dogs.
Our new dog, Molly, is best friends with Mauve and we're not fully convinced they aren't related, due to their location they were found in, their ages, and their appearance. Regardless, they are so sweet and cute together which is great because Mauve needs a friend who can keep up with her energy.
Next week, we start figure 8s, sitting for greeting and a brush up on "down". I'll be with the rescue coordinator because our second trainer has a few things and can't make it but she'll be back when we meet again, hopefully with them having read the body language 101.
I can't stress enough how great it is to walk into a room full of smiling faces and happy dogs (many of whom were super shut down when they entered the program). Our handlers are amazing. I can't believe that in the small time we've known them, they've gone from a bit standoffish and not really friendly to each other to smiling, cracking jokes and teasing one another about this or that with their different dogs. They know they are doing a great thing and some of these dogs come from horrendous situations. I'm so proud of the work they've done, even with our sporadic (and hopefully more consistent now that we've met with the warden and gotten a new coordination with the prison) meetings. The real test will be our next batch of dogs, but this group (who has had far too long due to the issues previously) is going very well. I anticipate they'll all graduate (less our three lifer dogs) and the next group will have its small hiccups, but also thrive.
I'm so honored to be part of something that brings so much joy to everyone. The inmates are happy (even those not in the program are having fun watching the dogs and asking how to get in), the dogs are happy, us trainers are happy, the rescue organization is happy and our coordinator and warden are happy. It's a win win win for everyone.
It's my favorite part of the week and I can't wait to see where it goes.
As always, be kind to yourself, to your dogs, and to others. It's free to be kind.
Here's a picture of Orange Cat (legal name Lionblaze but we call him orange cat lol) looking smug and satisfied for ya'll who are here for the cute animals.
#dog training#dogs#dog trainer#positive dog training#behavior modification#dog#mutts#cats#prison program#prison#kindness#orange cat#Yes he's also named after a Warriors cat#sue me#He's nowhere near as noble as his counterpart#More of an asshole disguised as a cuddle bug#He'd never hurt a fly because he's too incompetent but he sure will find a way to get into anything if there's a chance for food#love this program#love our inmates#mental health for inmates is important too#it's not just for the dogs#but the dogs are essential to the program#more prisons need programs like this

Daily Log 4
Trying out (probably just temporarily) making short daily-ish notes about things, in an attempt to see if it helps me be more reflective or productive lol.
Activities: Woke up late because I went back to sleep with a headache briefly, then kind of struggled to focus all day ToT
Worked more on the aforementioned tapestry/painting type of thing. I've done the base layer of painting for the main image, now I'm lining in darker outlines. I wanted to finish the center art before getting into the intricate borders. Still haven't translated the text lol..
Made a small bowl and also a little box with a lid out of more avocado pits. Still just with random nail cuticle tool things and kitchen knives, as I don't have proper carving tools.
Finished editing and proofreading the new poll adventure post!! I don't have time to post it tonight because I need to get to sleep early but.. I have it Completely 100% Ready.. finally..
Also washed the clothes I got together yesterday. Called about the bloodwork. Sent an email to a doctor.
Reviewed some writing documents to get back into my game maybe?? (basically, I started working on a visual novel type game a few years ago, decided it was a huge project so kind of put it on the backburner for a while in favor of things that were more easily finishable/tangible. then later on a game website I play (similar to neopets or something, there are collectable little creatures, etc.) there was an opportunity for me to design a pet on site, so I made a smaller shorter visual novel centered around that, where people on the site have to play the game in order to earn the pet, and I have a google form for them to answer a few short questions about it. All of the feedback is quite positive (reached 200 responses a while ago! though still only like 4 comments on the itch.io page lol.. Mandatory Form vs. Optional Comments evil showdown), but sometimes I get commentary that's really enthusiastic and inspires me to start back working on the OTHER bigger game. The small game was kind of like, a proof of concept that was safe because I had a guaranteed audience, that has helped me gain more insight for the larger one.
Anyway, since I've abandoned the Main Large Game for so long, I have to re-read and review/probably rewrite A LOT of things just to pick it back up again as A Thing I'm Actively Working On, so it's another one of those tasks that I do maybe 45 minutes of and then realize it's going to take days and days and get discouraged lol..
Notable sights: Saw two cats in windows. No clovers. It rained a little today but I didn't get to go outside and see it. One of the pieces of asparagus in the fridge was like the size of a carrot, comically overgrown downright ridiculous looking asparagus. Maybe I'll get taller after eating it.
Goals moving forward: Consistent sleep schedule. Focus on social activities, finding new friends in the places I want to move, communicating with ones I have. Physical therapy exercises. Plant nasturtiums. Finish and upload videos, edit costume pictures & etc.
Notable foods: ASPARAGUS AGAIN BABEY.. yeaAAAAGHHH asparagus squad !!!!!!
#just posting these publicly since it feels more like I'm doing something or easier to hold yourself accountable if you make public#declarations of goals and progress or etc. .. perhaps.. for now..#I wonder if you can eat too much asparagus. Hopefulyl I don't get sick ghjbj#Still craving lots of savory foods and soups. Also in a big big worldbuilding mood.#Not enough to actually edit the worldbuilding slideshow videos apparently since I've barely done any of that all week#>:Y#(they are different though.. actively writing wolrdbuilding is different from like.. editing recordings of you talking about it#BUT STILL...)#In an ideal world I have a little house in scotland or canada or something and am sitting cozy by a window watching it#rain whilst I eat lasagna and like a huge buffet table of every single hearty food I am having Anemia Cravings for#and my cat is sitting near me and I am furiously sketching various designs for different worldbuilding details. I have finally found#a weird hermit platonic best friend I'm compatible enough to live with and they are up in the attic doing their own weird little hobbies#but every once in a while I can call them down and tell them about an idea so we can bounce concepts off of each other. I somehow walk away#with no heartburn or stomach upset or nausea despite eating 800 plates of craving foods. It's cold and summer#does not exist anymore but not in a Catastrophic For The Earth type of way more in a like.. I am in a magical bubble#that only affects my direct vicinity and sheilds me from the temperature ever getting above 65F#(also I have a comfortable amount of money and good doctors and reasonable health etc. etc. but that's a given in any Ideal Scenario lol)#oughh... I just want to eat hearty breakfast foods and think about elves for 5 hours.. is that so much to ask#Why must... responsibilities... capitalism... limited time and no energy to focus on 100 projects at once... why these things...#ANYWAY#daily log

So a typical medical professional then. Or a medicine student. Depends on wether he’s looking you straight in the eyes while chugging the can of energy drink or not.
Will solace is the kind of guy to tell you to get 8 hours of sleep, say that mental health is important, and how you should eat 3 meals a day and then pull all nighters, neglect his mental being, and forget to eat because he uses all his time to take care of other people
#i have not met greater hypocrites than people in the medical field#for clarification i too am in the medical field#i’m a great fucking hypocrite#‘you shouldn’t drink that much caffein & get more than 3h sleep & eat something other than chips’#also me: this is my 2nd can of energy & in between i drink black tea. this is day 2 of being awake & i’m starting to approach the 50h mark#food has been 2 packages of instant ramen & half a bar of 80% chocolate & whatever pens were unfotunate enough to be near me#‘yes you should definitely go see a doctor for that thing’#deals with own issues by eyeballing meds years past due & ignoring the issue & half remembered first aid#if i can’t feel the pain the i injury doesn’t exist -> goes back to reading how symptom treatment alone isn’t a long term solution#& cause treatment is needed for long term health#will solace#minor character#william andrew solace#pjo fandom#hypocrite#key rambles

Cure PE: Best Sexologist in Patna, Bihar India | Dr. Sunil Dubey

Forager's Guide to Wild Foods
"The Forager's Guide to Wild Foods"-by Nicole Apelian, Ph.D., a biologist, survival expert, and herbalist-represents an in-depth field guide that attempts to teach a clientele base how to identify, harvest, and use wild edible plants. Overview of the book: "The Forager's Guide to Wild Foods" accommodates both the novice and the serious forager. Detailed coverage of hundreds of wild edible plants in North America makes the book a sustainable foraging and self-sufficient book. It will also prove highly useful to outdoor enthusiasts, survivalists, and those interested in wild foods as a natural nutrition source.

Geographical Coverage: The book covers a wide variety of ecosystems and climates throughout North America and should hence be helpful irrespective of one's location.
Preparation and Usage Tips: Each plant is discussed in how food from it can be harvested, prepared, and cooked. Additionally, suggestions are made regarding any medicinal uses or historical context of the plant relating to its traditional usages.
Emphasis on Safety: The text puts a heavy emphasis on safety due to the author's pointing out toxic look-alikes and poisonous plants. It is of prime importance so that no one inadvertently gathers anything that might harm them.
Practical Application to Everyday Life: This book emphasizes how foraging can be integrated into daily life, with recipes and suggestions for preserving or otherwise utilizing wild plants responsibly.
Section on Wild Medicine: Other than the section included in Wild Edibles, this book also provides an overview of plants with medicinal uses and can be helpful for those interested in herbal medicine. Pros

Geographically Diverse: Plants from a variety of regions are included so that the guide will be helpful to readers living in different areas of North America.
Cons
Too Much for Casual Readers: This book might be over-the-top for casual readers because it includes a huge number of plants that the average hobby forager may just want the simplest information about.
Physical Book: Like most field guides, this book is most fitting when printed, not as convenient as it will be to some finding a digital version or an app to take with them on the foraging trips. Regional Limitations: While it covers most ecosystems across North America, for people outside North America, they may find less usefulness for the local flora of where they are.

Comprehensive nature: Here, the readers of this book showed appreciation for the depth with which this book contains useful information besides simple identification, such as nutritional values and preparation tips, all the way to medicinal uses.
Emphasis on Safety: Most reviewers here have noted it is an emphasis on toxic plants and look-alikes that has made them forage safely and confidently, particularly those new to the wild food harvests.
Informative yet Entertaining: Not a few families and nature lovers alike attest that the book transforms every hike or nature walk into an even more educational experience, whereby onlookers can gain practical knowledge regarding the wild plants growing around them.
Verdict
"The Forager's Guide to Wild Foods" is a great book for anyone wanting to learn about wild plants for food and medicine. The clarity of its instructions, high-quality images, and safety emphasis are combined in the best possible way to satisfy both novice and advanced foragers alike. It's a book to actually make an investment in-as thorough as it is, one will likely be using it season after season.
This is a good book for the survivalist, homesteader, herbalist, or for anyone who, in general, enjoys being in the woods and learning about what's around them that might prove edible and/or medicinal. It can be a little overwhelming because of the amount of plants it covers, but it will be worth one's time if they are serious about foraging.

10 Foods That Are Bad For Your Teeth: Protect Your Oral Health
Maintaining good oral health goes beyond regular brushing and flossing; it also involves making wise dietary choices. Certain foods can be particularly harmful to your teeth, contributing to decay, erosion, and other dental issues.
Here are ten foods you should be cautious about to keep your smile healthy and bright.
1. Sugary Snacks and Candies
Sugary treats are notorious for their detrimental impact on dental health. Candies, especially sticky or chewy ones, cling to your teeth and provide a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. These bacteria produce acids that erode tooth enamel, leading to cavities. Hard candies are doubly dangerous as they can also crack or chip your teeth.
2. Carbonated Soft Drinks
Sodas are a triple threat to your teeth. They are loaded with sugar, highly acidic, and can dehydrate your mouth. The acid in these drinks wears down tooth enamel, and the sugar feeds harmful bacteria. Even diet sodas, though sugar-free, contain acids that can erode enamel over time.
3. Citrus Fruits
While citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and grapefruits are healthy and packed with vitamin C, their high acid content can erode tooth enamel. Frequent exposure to these acids can weaken your teeth and make them more susceptible to decay. Drinking water after consuming citrus can help wash away some of the acids.
4. Dried Fruits
Dried fruits like raisins, apricots, and figs are often perceived as healthy snacks, but they are high in concentrated sugars and can be very sticky. This stickiness means they tend to cling to teeth longer than other foods, promoting tooth decay. It’s better to eat fresh fruits instead.
5. White Bread
White bread might seem harmless, but when you chew it, your saliva breaks down the starches into sugar. This sugar can get trapped between teeth, creating an ideal environment for bacteria. Opt for whole grain bread, which contains less added sugar and more fiber.
6. Alcohol
Alcoholic beverages, particularly those high in sugar like sweet cocktails and liqueurs, can harm your teeth. Alcohol causes dehydration and reduces saliva flow, which is essential for washing away food particles and neutralizing acids. Less saliva means a higher risk of decay and gum disease.
7. Ice
Chewing on ice might seem refreshing, but it can cause significant damage to your teeth. Ice is hard and can crack or chip your teeth and damage tooth enamel. It’s best to enjoy ice in your drinks rather than as a snack.
8. Potato Chips
Potato chips are a favorite snack, but they are high in starch. This starch breaks down into sugar, which can get trapped between teeth and feed bacteria. Additionally, chips often leave behind residue that lingers in the mouth, leading to plaque buildup.
9. Coffee and Tea
While coffee and tea are popular beverages, they can stain your teeth over time. Additionally, many people add sugar to their coffee or tea, increasing the risk of tooth decay. Tannins in these drinks also contribute to staining. Rinse your mouth with water after consuming these beverages to minimize their impact.
10. Vinegar-Based Foods
Foods like pickles and other vinegar-based items are highly acidic. Regular consumption can erode tooth enamel, making teeth more susceptible to decay. If you enjoy these foods, try to rinse your mouth with water afterward to help neutralize the acids.
Conclusion
Being mindful of the foods you eat is crucial for maintaining good oral health. While you don’t need to completely eliminate these items from your diet, it’s important to consume them in moderation and take steps to protect your teeth.
Drinking water, maintaining a balanced diet, and practicing good oral hygiene can help counteract the negative effects of these foods. By making informed choices, you can enjoy a healthy smile for years to come.
