i think a lot of people don’t always realize the difference between “this is how i interpret canon” and “this is how i want to write it because that’s what’s fun to me”. a lot of times the latter is all headcanons or AUs are, not an indication of what the writer thinks “is” or “should be” canon

more power to those who are super tuned into actual canon and know these details like the back of their hand, but sometimes people just wanna use a series as a sandbox, not a ruleset. genuinely nothing but respect for people who ARE that knowledgeable, but i and a lot of other people are just here to have fun with characters we enjoy—and want to put them in more accessible settings

I really hope "Agatha All Along" sparks "magic-users traveling the Witches' Road" as a mainstay fanfiction genre as popular as "characters go to Hogwarts" or "characters work at a coffeeshop"

A trend in Astarion fics that I find bizarre is the idea that he's never been treated gently during sex. This is difficult to believe for one simple reason: some of Astarion's victims were virgins.

Astarion: You were handsome. Shy. You'd never been kissed. Sebastian: You taught me how. And then you destroyed me.

I get the desire to make his current partner special by having their sex be good and wholesome in comparison to his other trysts, but this is a flawed sentiment. The cutscene of that first night together is incredibly tender from the kiss to laying on the grass - the only outlier being if you offer your neck - and if you sleep with Astarion but keep it at that night, Astarion himself says he will never forget you. Not because the PC was uniquely gentle with him in bed, but because they were the first person he ever slept with of his own free will. It's his choice that makes that night special to him moreso than anything the PC may or may not have done during that time.

another thing i was thinking about while zoning out at work last night is i’m a little surprised there’s no like. Name for characters who are based off the girls’ particular character model and powers. They’re so distinct from every other design in the show and they tend to gain the most popularity but there’s no real catch-all term for them, canon or otherwise

I luv that in canon it's been implied for some regions that there are many towns with gyms outside of the ones we are aware of (I'm p sure this is mostly just Kanto and Johto) and that some gym leaders don't interact with the others at all and yet the fandom has just insisted that if you are a part of a Pokemon league, you have every other league member in your region (and other regions tbh) on speed dial and regularly go out for lunch with at least three of them

Also that if you're in a league, your entire social circle is the other league members. Maybe you have a family, but no guarantees. And you certainly don't have any non league affiliated friends

Canon: it is common for some league members to not know the other ones very well

Fandom: everyone is BEST FRIENDS

Do you think Home and Bardaby would end up- if not friends than at least allies eventually in your fantasy au? I think it would be a real shame if Wally's best friend & his patron couldn't find some common ground. Maybe they could both keep an eye on Wally for each other? I know Home is literally Always There with him, but there are some human(puppet?) issues that an elder god just wouldn't really get. idk, I just think it's a bit of a shame that they don't get along, since Barnaby's the only other person besides Wally to actually interact with home in the original ARG.

oh no yeah! they do Eventually! it just takes a while and some work. Home in this au is pretty protective of Wally for Reasons, and it takes a lot to make them go "hey, you're chill. i like you". unfortunately Barn is also protective (not nearly to Home's extent but yk) so they naturally clash where they should get along

i have the full process In My Mind but essentially: Home, if given express permission, can "possess" Wally (put in quotes bc technically Wally is already possessed by them). this happens either when Wally wants a fucking break / is overwhelmed and wants Home to take the wheel (Wally's consciousness is kinda 'turned off' - it falls into a deep sleep!), or if Home does Wally a favor - they trade the favor for a set amount of possession time. because Home would like to have a body & make the decisions from time to time <3

during one of these "Home has the wheel" periods, i imagine that some shit goes down that forces Barnaby & Home to work together w/o a mediator. and during this time they're trying to get through this while keeping Wally's body relatively unharmed - Barnaby experiences a nice disconnect of "this is Wally but its also not Wally & its also a being i don't like very much bc its a dick-". but through the power for Forced Interaction, they realize that yeah, they have common ground, but they're also not too bad :]. catch Wally taking the wheel and being perplexed at how Barnaby is all "hey say hi to Home for me!" or asking for Home's opinion on things.

The thing about the Livia-and-Coriolanus-actually-get-married fan theory based off of that one line in the book is that I can't see Livia ever actually agreeing to marry Coriolanus. Sure, hating each other benefits Coriolanus with his weird little brain, but Livia despised him. She took every opportunity to take a dig at him in the book. There are plenty of other rich and powerful Capitol people she could have married that she didn't actively despise. I just don't see it.

What if instead of her remaining children ( I maintain that Maelor exists and B&C went down mostly as it did in text, with her having to make her 'choice' between sons ) being taken by two separate caretakers away from the capital before the Blacks take over the city, Helaena escapes with Dreamfyre and her children? Let her have her a good ol' quest arc. "The Vagrant Queen", they can call her.

( Thinking maybe specifically after her in show conversation with Aemond just being like. The thing to make up her mind about leaving with Dreamfyre. Can't make her go to war if she's gone, eh? )

Glenn's trans am has those little scent tree air fresheners. Heat ( or cinnamon as normal people would call it)

It's not in the rear view tho, it's on the blinker. And when the smell starts to fade, his uses his zippo to burn the corner and blows it out so the smoke can drift through the car.

It's a small everyday occurrence but god it's a core memory for Nicky.
