A Defense of Benny Gecko
Benny is more of a capable leader and person than people give him credit for.
Seeing as no one challenged his position as head Chairmen for 7 years and even then he only loses the position if he’s caught, killed or forced to leave. Yes, it’s also likely House wouldn’t have allowed him to be killed but he sure as hell would of found a way to remove him if he was causing too much unrest within The Tops power structure. Even Swank and Tommy don’t outright dislike him and more so are concerned with his recent secretive and shady behavior, emphasis on recent.
Taking all we know into consideration, Benny likely knew the future direction that he wanted to take Vegas but was so caught up in the plans to acquire Vegas that he didn’t think of how to make his dream a reality. Something he admits to in canon. I see this being used as the main argument that Benny doesn’t know what he’s doing at all but I see it more in the same vein as you can’t really plan something from nothing. The transformation of Vegas is a sensitive thing that he can’t really work on until he has it. The only reason he ran to the Fort prematurely is the Courier who was causing so much of a stir he would’ve likely been found out much faster, making all that planning for nothing if he didn’t take that chance.
Benny is careful (well a lot more careful than he is regularly depicted in fanon), the Courier being able to trace him was dumb luck on their part and his hair being noticed at the Fort is a realistically small oversight that even Caesar is disappointed in because he admits Benny got farther than he should’ve been allowed by his legionaries. The fact he can plan an ambush on the Courier or tries to quickly and concisely clean up lose ends that don’t lead back to him shows he’s not just acting on impulses or in the moment decisions. Or rather he’s quite good at thinking them out, whether they work depends on how you play really. This is all to say it’s 100% believable that Benny could lead an independent Vegas (house was basically setting him up to do that). If he had known explicitly that House was setting him up to replace him, he likely would’ve bought more time by getting in closer, learning more of the system to then flip House’s edge to his favor. Again something he was doing already but likely without the knowledge of House’s feelings on him personally.
No matter what, Vegas’ future was tied to Benny; House’s plans for him, having to get the chip and if he had somehow succeeded. It’s also interesting that of all the people vying for control of the dam/Vegas, Benny’s plans are the only ones actually oriented towards a new future, not a recreation of something long past.
#something something despite going against you Benny has the most in common with an independent player#he’s just like an asshole and also knows when he’s no longer in the driver seat so he leaves it to you#cause despite all his lame traits Benny got supper far in his plan and likely could’ve done it if the courier never got involved#if he didn’t have the need to run to the fort he would’ve waited to learn what the chip did and then made a more direct plan but when a big#clue to what he’s been up to cough the courier cough came he had to throw caution to the wind#this is sorta related to why house chose Benny and his plans for Benny cause likely the rest of house plans were gonna be#about getting Benny to adopt his ideals and views on Vegas before testing whether Benny could run it like him#and would’ve likely been proud of all the planning Benny did for Yes Man if it wasn’t for it being against him#all I can imagine is like Benny being more disappointed than anything with how house decided to run things and he holds nothing personal#towards house this is a necessity as house will never give up control kinda like bingo but I feel like Benny at least respected Bingo#something something bingo could’ve been a father figure making killing him more of a reason Benny would go against house cause he murders#a potential parental figure thinking it’s what he has to do for the betterment of his tribe only to feel like he led them to stagnation and#a longing for days gone by cause the guy who filled ur head with glittery promises ain’t sparkling no more#and makes the resistance to a parental house make more sense#fallout#fallout new vegas#benny gecko#benny fnv

While I love the storyline where Alfred was there from day one and helped raise Bruce, I think the original where he’s just some guy who shows up one day and Bruce and Dick just have to cope is extremely funny

Considering the. Ahem. Ways this year has gone, I've not been thinking about it all that much, but. I did start this year with the motto of Year Of Unfucking My Life. With a few goals involved in that.
I got an official adhd diagnosis, as well as a diagnosis for PCOS. Other diagnoses in progress. Gotten adhd meds and birth control to regulate periods. I've gone back to school and I'm keeping up with it better than ever before. I've even been working on practicing driving, something I've been largely neglecting since I first got my driving permit, um... 11 years ago...
I just need to actually Get my license. And I need to get it before the end of the year. If I can accomplish that, then I'll say the Year Of Unfucking My Life was successful.
#speculation nation#i had some pretty major negative And positive influences for this goal of mine.#primary negative influence of course being my dad abruptly dying.#but that also led to the primary positive influence of the life insurance payout that's letting me just focus on school for my final year.#it's like a monkey's paw curl kind of moment. i got a genuinely astounding amount of money#more than enough to live off for a year+ and pay off the rest of my schooling.#with this i have finally exited the purgatory of part time school full time work to pay my way through school#a setup that led to endless stress (both physically and mentally) and suffering grades.#failing some classes and taking longer bc part time Anyways. locking me into years and years of this perpetual fucking Hell.#ive escaped it. school is so so so much more manageable when i dont have to work a job. im actually keeping up with my assignments.#for once theres no uncertainty about passing any of my classes. i Will pass them all. and i expect As in most if not all of them.#it's been fucking Amazing. everything i couldve wanted. and it came with the low low cost of losing my father when i was only 26.#... 'low' being sarcastic here of course. he was the 2nd worst person i couldve lost in my life. second only to my sister.#the 2nd worst grief i will Ever experience. bc he was my Good parent. hes the very reason i have a future at All.#and losing him fucked me up Severely. im still working on recovering. i kind of figure i always Will be.#thank god id already been taking spring semester off bc that would've been Horrible to go thru while in school.#i honestly probably would've just withdrawn from the semester. theres no Way id have kept up with it#given how damned BUSY those first few weeks after were. between funeral prep and inventorying and packing up his house.#so fucking much involved in settling an estate. and im the lucky one in that my sister's been handling all the legal shit.#so i simultaneously was dealt one of the most severe blows i ever Will be dealt#while also being given probably the biggest boost i'll ever get in my life.#if everything goes well with graduating and getting an IT job then i'll never want for money again.#considering there was a time early last year when i got as low as literally $7 in my bank account. this is a pretty big deal.#it's just... strange. the ways things go in life. this has been a very strange year for me.#just doing my best to use this boost to the best of my ability. even if it feels like im taking advantage of his death.#it's what he wouldve wanted me to do.

i truly and honestly believe that it would have been much funnier if snw had spock just. 100% miss out on anything crazy that happened. time travel shenanigans? he was in the lab. ship invaded? meditating. gets split into two separate versions of himself? no wonder reports were getting done twice as fast!
man has the most normal and boring starship tour of his life up until the events of the cage happen, remains totally unimpressed with humans and the federation in general, and then hops aboard with kirk and experiences the most batshit five years of his whole life

Cassidy is an important roll in the first timeline as she's the one who kept William 'alive'. Refusing to move on, and basically dragging down all the other spirits. In spiritual form Cassidy, and Charlie where always antagonistic with each other. Especially when Charlie had convinced the other children to move on, even Evan wanted to move on which felt like a betrayal. Though unlike the other spirits Evan is forcefully connected to Cassidy so he couldn't just choose to move on himself she would have to agree too. They are practically melted together in a twisted form of one spirit and as you can imagine she refused.
They don't have their bodies in the suits like the others. One is buried in a cemetery and Cassidy's body is in an unmarked grave in the forest somewhere. So they had started to melt together into one being of course Cassidy's spirit was the strongest having been the newest kill at the time while Evan had been dead for a while.
Cassidy's hate is enough to keep William here (along with all the other dead children) and twist his form until his very soul is splintering, turning into off shoots of who he was. Due to this William doesn't really remember much of what his splinters did. He might have faint memories, or a sense of Déjà vu but the splinter he remembers the most is the one he was remade (put back together) with aka pit spring bonnie.
I see Cassidy as an accidental kill. The one that sort of kick started William's blood lust. He had been drunk driving and hit her while she was walking around at night. The thing is, she didn't die on impact she was still alive. And as you can imagine Will had a lot to lose if he was caught so he took her to the forest to bury her body. There's so much hate and agony because he basically buried her alive.
Second timeline William gains her trust, calls child protective service, and makes sure she gets put with a foster family that he has an in with. All so he can be a lil freak, and keep his new protegee around.

once again can't sleep because I'm thinking of all the ways the x files could have been a better show. alas
#i will be getting 5 hrs of sleep max tonight :')#I'm just so mad that scully's internal conflict is introduced as her feeling guilt about following her ambitions to work at the FBI#instead of going into medicine like her father wanted. and they did one really good episode about this.#and then decided that her main internal conflict for the rest of the series would be Her Uterus.#like the whole theme of the show is that searching for the truth can make you feel even more uncertain about everything in your life#and i feel like her uncertainty about & commitment to following her ambition despite what authority figures want#would make a lot of sense both for her character and the story. it's crazy that they set all that potential up & then decided to ignore it#another thing that pisses me off is how little characterization Samantha gets. like she's just The Dead Sister.#personally i think it would be really interesting to have her only described thru Mulder's recollection because there's always a bit of#doubt over whether she was really abducted so i think it would make the viewer ask the same question as everyone else in the show--#am i really going to trust this guy? is he a reliable narrator or just crazy?#is he a reliable narrator of his own insanity but not necessarily reality?#auhg I'm so mad. they did such a good job of making interesting and compelling characters and didn't give them the storylines they deserved

i do love my dad and he's grown a lot as a person, but i do wish he'd go to therapy for his own sake. it affects him in so many ways that he doesn't even realize
#like you know how colonial american puritanism infected this country with Productivity and the Need To Be Productive#my dad HAS to do stuff on his days off and its wearing him down but he still makes himself work#and in a way i get it--construction and building is his artistic passion#its like how there are days where i really need to rest my hand due to muscle strain#but i draw anyways because drawing is my favorite thing in the world#so i do understand it#but he's aging and he's going to wear himself out#'a body at rest stays at rest and i'll rest on the conveyor belt into the crematorium'#dad if you die before im 50 im kicking your ass#mickey.txt#and that's not getting into the healing from how he was raised because good fucking lord#like he's so proud of how 'i deserved every beating i got from my dad' which is. a lot#but then i remember the story he told me of when he was 5 or 6#he was kneeling at a dining chair and using it as a fort to play with his action figures#and his father beat him with a belt for it#he always seems to forget that one when bragging about how well he was beat#and my dad was considered spoiled by his siblings!#my aunt caroline was beaten so badly once she was taken by child protective services!#and that was in the 60s!!!#just. consdering how my dad never went to therapy or healed from what he went though he's miraculously patient and gentle#and im grateful for that#but good lord. does he still need to heal#abuse tw#child abuse tw

#dc liveblog#not gonna bother reading the rest of this series for full context. im assuming batman is in a simulation of his worst fears#which are not entirely accurate to what may have really happened#so id like to imagine bruce saying he isn't Jason's father is apart of the fear.#as we know. Jason's /need/ for a proper parental figure is a major factor. a butterfly towards his death#so perhaps bruce subconsciously knowing that. and knowing how he failed as a father. naturally made his fears#exaggerate it. and made it outright worse. creating a world where jason couldve never seen bruce as a father#and thus was like more doomed to die or something idk#also weird how bruces mind sees jason as practically an adult when stealing the tires. (though that may be artstyle.)#and seeing himself as giving jason a choice in the matter#and jason smiling at him. pretty sure jason never smiled at him when he got caught with the tires or putting them back on#its all interesting#and of course. how much of those odd changes in memories are meant to be apart of his fears. or just how he remembers the events himself#i def see the “im not your dad” as a fear thing tho#however... bruce does /know/ he's in a simulation. wonder what it all means#im still not gonna bother reading the full series of this for context
