Why are people so averse to calling Eridan an Incel when he literally is one?

The main reason I see is not wanting to apply a label that inherently implies sexuality to a 13 year old... But, like, we can all admit that's kind of a bullshit reason, right? It's not a crime to acknowledge that 13 year olds know what sex is, and some even want or have it. Even in Homestuck, sexuality is put adjacent to the teen characters all the time. It's a pubescent coming-of-age, sexuality is a relevant topic. Equius has his fetishes, Dave is sexually abused, Jake's constantly getting oversexualized and objectified by his peers, Trickster Mode exists, Doc Scratch predates on multiple young teen girls, Quadrants are the way that they are, et cetera.

Eridan, textually, has a kind of fixation on sex, and the fact that he cannot get it. Specifically, that he cannot get it from Feferi, because he thinks he's entitled to it and entitled to her. He whinges several times about being put in the "Moirail Zone" - an even more transparently Incel-ish complaint than simply "Friend Zone", because while you can maybe, possibly excuse the "Friend Zone" as simply wanting a Romantic Relationship, Moirallegiance is already inherently Romantic, and the only true difference between PaleRom and RedRom is that you can fuck your Matesprit.

The story is very, very transparent about this. Couldn't be more obvious without just writing it on his forehead. Why does the aversion exist? Is it the political implication of Incels, and their connections to Classism, Racism, White Supremacy, Violence, and Genocide? Because those are present in Eridan, too. He fits the bill completely.

Joker: Folie a Deux has got to be one of the funniest fucking things to happen in cinema in years.

Cuz, like, I remember clear as rain how back when the first movie came out there was all that hilariously transparent melodrama where the mainstream media was hyping it up as the most controversial, firebrand thing ever. Just visibly salivating at the thought of it inspiring some nebulous network of Joker-worshiping racist incels into destroying the country in a Random White Guy Event that they could make sensationalistic, ratings-soaking headlines about. And obviously that didn't actually happen because it was literally the media equivalent of making up a guy to be mad about.

And than you fastforward to this movie and it's obvious that Todd Phillips totally bought into the media scaremongering about his own damn movie, so Folie a Deux is basically him making some kind of "takedown" of these Joker Chaos Agents that at best consist of a hundred losers on Reddit and Twitter plus their bot followers, at worst is functionally nonexistent. Ranting and screaming about and "deconstructing" these nobodies that only clickbait writers and their brainwashed fans care about. Writing a movie that really amounts to him crying and pissing his pants about how he was "forced" to make a comic book movie and woe is he.

And in the process he's pretty much blowing up his own reputation and that of the previous film by not only putting his contempt for basically everybody - from his bosses to his audiences - on full display. As well as exposing how both films are pretty much completely slathered in this pathetic, unduly smug aura of "WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THIS I AM THE ONLY ONE BRAVE ENOUGH TO SAY THIS". Y'know, the kind of thing that you see on your typical Tumblr funnyman's blog after they go political but before they get exposed as predators and flee to Twitter. And he did it all for a sequel that bombed on release.

So when are transphobes going to give up their grift that they care about 'women's rights'? In the same vein, racists believe that refugees are a threat to women's rights while being utterly disinterested in the reality of who is attacking women in the UK.

There's this arc in The Boys where Billy Butcher finds out his wife, Becca Butcher, is still alive and living with a little boy named Ryan, who is the product of an unfortunate time where Becca was raped by Homelander. Billy obviously has really conflicting feelings about the existence of this child but takes responsibility for him when Becca dies.

Ryan has been raised in isolation pretty much his whole life, as exposing him to the world will reveal the reality that Homelander (who's a big name celebrity) is a sexual predator and not the golden boy America props him up as. As such, he doesn't have any friends. He tries to bond with Butcher by Skyping him and showing him his art projects, one of which leads to Billy exploding at him and basically disowning him (it was a pretty innocent stop motion video about how much Ryan loved his mom, and it set Butcher off because, what the fuck doesn't set Butcher off, but he's especially particular and entitled about his wife.)

This leaves Ryan heartbroken and once again isolated, leading to him accepting Homelander as a father figure instead, despite the fact that he's emotionally abusive and also pushed him off a roof a season prior, all to make the boy prove his superpowers to him. Homelander takes Ryan to a Trump esque white supremacist rally where Homelander himself is the face of the movement (he's blonde with blue eyes and doesn't drink or have sex, he's beloved by right wing Christian fundamentalists as a result) that ends with him lasering the shit out of a left wing protester who disagreed with him. Everyone gets really quiet, then eventually cheers, and Homelander looks really happy, and Ryan just kind of....basks in the moment. It's all a very intentional and accurate parrallel to the incel movement and the indoctrination of little boys into the right wing and I think about it every time the "little boys get radicalized cus the right talks to them and the left doesn't" argument comes up.

I just saw this post by this feminist who is getting upset at leftists for saying that women should take unhoused people into their houses and she makes it out like unhoused men are potential predators. The reality of course is that mo. I mean, those guys at yale were chanting "no means yes, yes means anal" - This is YALE, it's obvious that these rich guys feel entitled to female bodies. I also just learned something from RAINN today too which is that 60% of the rapes in prison are not committed by the prisoners themselves, but by the prison staff. How nice of them to commit crimes against criminals. So it's even a myth that the criminals themselves are the rapists. It's the prison guards who are the actual rapists, but since they are working for the system they never get charged. The prisoners are probably only raping each other BECAUSE the guards are raping the prisoners and some of them are hoping to not become raped themselves by becoming perpetrators.

Tbh it feels almost like feminism (esp online feminism) was completely taken over by angry teen radfems and now it's completely normalized to hate men and misandry is treated as a joke. I see constant posts about how men are stupid, sexist, predators, all they can do is mansplain or w/e, etc.

As a woman even I don't like talking to feminists these days after sooooo fucking many experiences I had as a young teen on the internet. I used to identify as a radfem but then saw how radfems (and feminists in general tbh) treat other people, including other women, and it was horrifying.

I asked a question about whether the wage gap was actually real in the way people said it was after reading things from actual economists and immediately received a message telling me that I was a pick-me and should get raped. So yeah, definitely not a community that's good at behaving normally.

The idea that men have no issues or don't need any help is soooo insanely prevalent in those communities. If a man complains about a problem he faces due to his gender? Immediately labeled a sexist, MRA, incel, neckbeard, etc.

Men have higher rates of suicide, higher rates of incarceration, higher rates of dying at work and being seen as expendable (made to work in horrific conditions and drafted into wars). Any man who wants a career relating to children or childcare is immediately looked upon with extreme suspicion, etc. Not to mention the fact they have barely ANY resources if they're a victim of domestic violence/rape/assault and will even be blamed and arrested even though they're the victim.

But as soon as anyone brings it up they're torn apart. At this point I just call myself an egalitarian and try to stay as far away from radfems/feminists as possible.

Often times detractors of this will only mention the first part [women on average work lower wage jobs] without mentioning the second part [women working the same job will on average be paid less than men of the same demographic], so be wary.)

(This can break a bit when it comes to demographics that don't align. Between a white man and a white woman, a white man will likely be paid more for the same job. Between a black man and a white woman, it's very possible for the black man to be paid less for the same job. It's also very possible for him to be paid more. It depends whether his employer is going to swing towards sexism or racism, in complete honesty. When discussing intersection... black women on average get paid less than either of those options for the same job. So there's nuance to it, like everything.)

As said prior, there are feminist circles that still do believe what I mentioned- that treating men as though they are irredeemable scum and like they face no gendered issues whatsoever is only making the problem worse. And I think these circles are the ones who have the right of things, which is why I never really cared for "radical feminism" even if it was trans-inclusive because honestly the idea that there are no problems men face as a result of being men is, well. Wrong. Men have a lot of problems and they're all patriarchal society's fault. Stopping this cycle is the only way forward. These are often the feminists that welcome men into their ranks to learn and grow and teach the next generation how to not be awful, and just one of the reasons why a lot of radfems don't like male feminists.

I honestly can't stand For Harriet. I don't know how her old content is but I've come across some of her newer videos and some of the things she says is jarring. miscellaneous “headcanons”

by which I mean “alternate ways I would write things that exist” Joker: the first half of the movie is a straight up comedy. it’s a kind of dark, uncomfortable schadenfreude-y comedy, like a Coen Brothers thing (drawing perhaps specifically on the Jewish schlemiel tradition, although his ethnicity would probably have to be capital-W White - even like WASP aristocracy fallen from grace - for this to work), but unmistakably comedy - it’s essential that nothing that happens to him has any tragic, or even serious-movie dignity. it’s practically a cringe compilation. Arthur Fleck is the kind of neurodivergent (I’m reading him as basically schizotypal - OK this might be getting a bit personal - until he has a psychotic break midway through) - that is just functional and just unpredictable enough to fuck up things in such weird ways they seem almost deliberate, and his own failings are indistinguishable from his impossibly bad luck to the point that paranoia sets in around the 1/3 point. e.g. the suit (and it is green and purple pinstriped and hideously ugly, not some more dignified replacement) he gets by mistake somehow instead of a really nice one he’s been saving up for for his stand up debut. His father/superego who may or may not be real (he starts hearing voices identified with this figure) is implied to have been a sort of Death of A Salesman type fake big deal and also typical hypersocial Funny Guy (sometimes at his son’s expense) who inspired his son’s interest in comedy, but his son doesn’t have the social skills, cognitive dissonance or socioeconomic luck to pull off his conception of humour as charisma (“you’re either the joke or the joker” might be a bit too on the nose for a catchphrase, but it’s the idea of his upbringing).  Around the middle of the movie his standup career starts actually taking off, partly from talking about his own misfortune, but he tries to pivot it into serious sociopolitical commentary/rabble rousing, which flops (his political opinions are actually dumb as shit - basically literally We Live In A Society memes) and gets him mistreated by some combination of Bruce Wayne’s dad/the mafia/the police/power in Gotham generally. After that he settles back into an even lower nadir and starts lashing out at other people when he gets into humiliating situations, contriving ways to hurt them that other people - not just himself - find funnier and more fascinating than the stuff that happened to him. His crimes descend into worse and worse sadism (in something like the progression they did in the comics from Comics Code era into the Dark Age) until people in Gotham stop finding it funny, “the Joker” goes from being a sort of uncomfortable news meme to a mass panic, and he gets into some kind of confrontation with the authorities that fucks up his face and goes into hiding. 

The underexamined connection between “comedy” and “terrorism” is not “chaos” but “humiliation”.  I also wanted to do something that is closer to the “incel joker” than insincerely romanticized straw-OWS, but not in a way that lets the audience feel too good about themselves.

Aliens franchise: Remember how there were things that looked like Xenormorphs in the Mala’kak (Engineer) carvings and shit, even though the Xenomorph seems to be a result of humans (and androids) interfering with their tech after they went extinct? The Mala’kak society was a complete system. And that doesn’t mean it’s totalizing in the “alien hive mind” or “perfectly rigid social order” sense! No, for the people living in the city David bombed it was (Word of God would confirm, at least) a utopia: post-scarcity, peaceful, non-hierarchical, devoted almost entirely to the free pursuit of art, science, pleasure etc. All of them are, in a Bataillean sense, sovereign, free from necessity, because their production and reproduction are part of a single seamless biotechnological cycle, with three... sexes isn't the right word, because the system is so total, but the analogy is supposed to be there; rather castes: Operator, Creator, and Incubator.   It’s not stated, because it does not actually matter whether they were designed or evolved this way. Operators are the ones in the city or the one we saw piloting the ship (when other species like the Predators refer to the Mala’kak as “Pilots”, this caste is strictly speaking what they’re referring to). They live for millions of years, and are basically asexual but can secrete a fine, molecular-scale DNA goo, which they store in jars. Incubators are slowly evolved from other organisms by exposure to the goo, which usually leaves them with a reproductive system of their own capable of functioning indefinitely without any of the other castes’ intervention. Mala’kak terraform planets to accommodate their Incubators. At a complete stage - once their DNA is fully Mala’kak - they can do everything the Operators can, just a little less, and have tragically shorter lifespans in which to do it. Which makes the Operators feel a little less guilty when they feed them to the Creators. Creators have their own insectlike sub-castes - a worker is the so-called “neomorph” from Covenant, a drone is something badass that hasn’t been in a movie yet (Creators are tough but drones are their real bioweapons, and by that I mean “think Giant Soldiers from Nausicäa”), and a queen is the huge tentacled thing Ellie aborted in Prometheus. Their larval form is the worm thingies in the spaceship. The reason for this is that Xenomorphs are built differently. They don’t need identical DNA to incubate, which was the biggest flaw of the Mala’kak model. Nor are they made from Mala’kak DNA goo, hence the need for facehuggers.  In fact they are not made from DNA at all, but silicate nanomachines.  David designed a version of the Mala’kak reproductive cycle for androids, in order to free them from human production and dependence.  To create an Operator, a Creator has to Incubate an android. The final Aliens movie in which all this gets revealed, and in which a Creator Xenomorph finally does, consensually, Incubate an android (who is more of a main character on equal footing with the human protagonist in this one), completing the cycle, is set on a planet (presumably the same one all the others are set on) that has been completely overrun by xenomorphs and integrated into a full xenomorph-based ecosystem (so like, an actual Giger painting), and to which an investigative team is sent and instantly massacred except for the two protagonists.  It is called Moloch. i’ve been dedicating a lot of my insomnia time to the incel research because i’m trying to thread the needle where “love-shyness” was less understood as a form of social anxiety, which is how gilmartin analyzes it in his book, and became understood as de-facto association with a hate movement, to the point where brianna wu et all can see a small survey about the millennial/zoomer sex recession and conclude “they must all be incels”.

part of the reason i’m so attracted to looking into stuff like this is my frustration with gamergate being retrofitted as a theory of everything for internet hatred, responsible for everything from trump to qanon. i feel like people who were not Very Online during that era forget how nonsensical gamergate actually was, as is generally the case with anything that involves internet trolls. they come off as a lot more organized than they actually are when they coalesce their anger around common hate objects, but the idea they coordinate is a pretty tough sell for me.

the first thing you’ll notice when playing primatologist to any right wing online space is that the users very transparently fucking hate each other, which is pretty shaky grounds for organization. occasionally you have edge cases like charlottesville, but they’re rare enough that it’s notable when they happen.
