One of my favourite subtle moments in ATSV is when Miguel is doing the whole explaining of how suffering is just part of the spider brand and everyone is looking very sad and somber when recollecting theirs, and then there’s Hobie who simply says “Yeah? What of it?” Before not hesitating for a second to help Miles escape and then quit the team.

He saw what they were doing and he knew immediately it was wrong. He didn’t undermine or belittle anyone else’s experiences but he wasn’t about to have his be added to the reasons Miles should accept more pain than he deserves.

He refused to allow his trauma to be weaponised against a confused, frightened kid and immediately deflected it before helping that kid get away to break the rules. I stan Hobie so much.
