buck's hands scrub across the dog's head, the perfect mix of rough and gentle. eddie's met guys who really didn't know their own strength, but buck's not like that. he knows his own strength exactly, every single muscle, and he's good with it. good with his hands, too. that's normal, of course, for their job, you kinda have to be. but, well. eddie's noticed it, is all.

the dog is settling down now, stepping all over buck's thighs to lie comfortably on his lap, and buck's just beaming. "oh, you should've seen him, eddie, all curled up. you could tell he's been through some shit, y'know, just from the look in his eyes, and he growled at me once or twice. but i could tell he was just scared. right, sweetheart?" that last part was to the dog, eddie should clarify. "so, yeah, he was wary of me at first, i guess. but i didn't mind. i loved him right from the start."

eddie's exhausted, is the thing. el paso has been ripping him open, every piece of him cracked and bleeding on the floor. and it's so nice to look at buck, to listen to him talk. so of course, eddie smiles lazily and says, "glad you know what it was like for me."
