i'm quite late but i still wanted to post this so: here's argentina (angie) and maría remedios del valle (the capitana/mother of the homeland).

i wanted to make these drawings as a sort-of tribute for the 8th of november (aka. the afro-argentines and afro-culture's day, which is in conmemoration to her) because, despite being one of the most forgotten figures in our history, maría remedios was important, more than people realize. and since this is about my hetalia oc (oops-) here's how i vision her influence on argentina, not only as a country but as a woman:

angie saw her as a role figure, almost like a mother in a way, she was the closest thing she would get as a maternal figure. during her independence, angie kept maría remedios close, as they helped eachother and made their way through the war, she tought her how to fight, heal the wounded soldiers and many things.

however, after it was over, they took different paths, angie had other wars to fight and she didn't know anything else about maría remedios until it was too late. it didn't help that all this happened when angie was still very young, as she was growing up, she began to forget. it was only in recent years that maria remedios was beggining to be recognized for who she was, after being forgotten for centuries. argentina forgot about her, just like we argentines did, her people.

i am very aware of what happened to maría remedios and her story, how argentines forgot her and discredited her achievements and efforts (such ignorance being rooted in racism and misoginy). she is just as important as san martín, manuel belgrano and many argentine figures, we must not leave her in oblivion again.

I think I've heard that word before but without the context of the other languages I wouldn't know what it was and I'm pretty sure I know the word for peach. Chile

In Chile there's (up to Feb 5) 160 wild fires, of which 40 are still trying to be controlled by authorities. The president, Gabriel Boric, has declared State of Emergency in the whole country, and theres a Red Alert Code in most part of the country.

Isla de Chiloé, Southern Chile (900 km away from Santiago de Chile)

This is a (recently controlled) fire that lasted a week, but many neighborhoods were burnt to the ground.

The whole South is in red alert for constant sudden fires that spread quickly due to the lack of rain and the elevated temperatues in the zone. Just today, two fires had to be controlled in the main land next to this island, and more are being reported in the Los Lagos region. This is added to the "controlled" intentional fires that farmers make to clean their fields of old crops along the Central-South parts of the country, mostly surrunding the main route, Ruta 5, that connects the whole country, thus making it hard to see and breathe because of the smoke. (flashnews, most of them get out of control quickly.)

Valparaiso/Viña del Mar, Central Chile (100 km away from Santiago de Chile)

A fire that started on Friday 2nd and grew exponentially because of the wind and the dry, hot climate. More than 100 people are dead, with 70 unrecognized bodies and other 400 that have dissapeared. At least 30000 people that have lost everything to the fire.

There's massive evacuations from this and the neighboring city, Viña Del Mar.

This is said to be the second most deadly fire in the century, surpased by Australia in 2009.

45000+ hectares that include land and neighborhoods have been burnt down.

Argentina

Parque Los Alerces (Esquel), Chubut

The fire strarted on the 25th January, and the climate has made it hard to contain. 3000 hectares of native forest have been burnt to teh ground. It is now growing in the direction of the nearest city, Esquel. Theres been evacuations between yesterday and today (4 and 5th Febuary)

Parque Nahuel Huapi (Bariloche), Río Negro

The reason why im writing this. The city woke up today covered in smoke after a wildfire developed yesterday during the night. The reason? A fireplace that was not turned off in a place where people cannot disembark and can only be reached via boats.

As of now, there's not much information about the fire but hopefully the firefighters will be able to contain it before it reaches Tronador Mountain, where an ancient glaciar is.

...which leads me to the other point i wanted to talk about.

Firefighters

They volunteer to do this job.

In Argentina and Chile, firefighting is not rewarded with a salary, and most of the times they dont even have full firehouses to stay in. These people are at their houses, ready to jump into action and run to the station the second the alarm goes off.

They are neighbors, people that risk their lives and run into danger willingly, just because they want to help the community.

I felt the need to give a shout-out to these people and say:

Don't be a fucking dick, don't start fires in the woods unless it's an approved place, and if you do, TURN IT OFF.

Pour abundant water on it, and do not stop when you don't see any more flames.

Keep pouring water until the ashes don't burn/feel like room temperature in your hand if you put it 10 cm away from it, and even then, pour some more just to be sure.

No heat and no smoke mean a safely extinguished fire.

Save lives and forests.

when he finally understood what your surprise was, the worlds best dad! mug, he was over the moon excited. then worried. then absolutely freaked out. he asked too many times about how it would work with his schedule, and if you were going to be okay. he even offered taking a break from playing to help you.

the entire time, he was always checking up on you, either calling from hundreds of miles away, or keeping you in bed. he thought no different of you, didnt care that you honestly couldnt do anything by yourself, he loved taking care of you! he only thought of how cute you were with his child.

when the bump was completely evident now, he would play volleyball matches on his phone, and hold the speaker up to your tummy. he wanted his child to play volleyball, if they wanted to, of course. no matter if it was a boy or girl, he was gonna start training from before birth.

KOSHI SUGAWARA -

you straight up handed him the positive test, big eyes all teary and lip quivering. but honestly, he was so happy, he immediately dropped it and ran around the house. then he remembered you standing right there, then ran after you and literally threw you in the air.

he is a girl dad one thousand percent, so he wanted to know the gender as soon as possible. but no matter what, he was happy that you were the one who he had a family with. he made sure you never lifted a pinky, always scheduling your appointments, making food (yes even your odd cravings), and drove you around everywhere.

when hormones' kicked in, he tried his best to just shut up and sit down for you. he never wanted to upset you, but one time he did because he didnt cut your cucumbers a certain way. you were hysterical and unappetized, and he just stood there with a defeated face, knowing that the next two trimesters were going to be even better.

TORU OIKAWA -

he cried as well. harder than you actually, which made you freak out, which made him freak out. you two were in the bathroom crying out the 'im not ready to be a parent!'. but oikawa smacked himself in the face and held you close, trying to convince you everything was going to be okay.

he helped you when he could, but argentina was kicking his ass with camps and practice. so more often then not, hed come home completely worn out. but he still did the dishes, and prepped all your food. he more helped from a distance, and let you do what you needed.

he was dead set on having a boy in his mind, but when you two found out it was a girl, he was already shopping. showing you all the cute pinky clothes with bows and flowers. his mind definitely changed at that moment, knowing that his daughter would be just as beautiful has his mother (and him of course).

USHIJIMA WAKATOSHI -

you two definitely had this planned, it was his job to carry down the bloodline. and he definitely wanted a boy to carry down his legacy. ushijima was a traditionalist, if anything. you tried to explain that you didnt need to be babied just because you had a baby, but he just shook his head and made you lay down for all almost ten months.

he cooked, cleaned, and online shopped so you could see the options too. the gender reveal was where he felt most nervous, he wanted a boy. i mean he would love them no matter what, but definitely a boy. and he felt like his prayers were answered when the ultrasound came back as a male. it was the one time he publicly celebrated anything.

so he made sure you ate nice and healthy for not only you, but him. he spent the entire last trimester baby proofing every crack of your home, softening the corners of any surface, and making sure there were no dangling cords for him to choke on. when you noticed the new child lock on the cabinets, all he did was put his hand on your stomach and kiss your head, telling you to not worry about anything other than your son.

ATSUMU MIYA -

blank face, no words, and no thought. didnt understand the two lines on the little white stick that had you jumping all over him while laughing. was honestly in denial, like that, 'we are actually having a baby? together? me and you? our kid?'. but when it clicked, he teared up and hugged you.

he immediately called osamu, making fun of how he was carrying the bloodline before he was. but in all seriousness, he was overjoyed. he was all about the publicity too, showing off his beautiful wife and her cute tummy that held his child. he tried his best to help out in the house, but was a lost cause when it came to cooking. so he ordered takeout ninety percent of the time.

definite massager, shoulders, back, feet even. he had no idea how much pain you were in, so all he could do was at least get rid of some of it. told you how pretty you were even though you had been in bed for a week and continuously growing in size, he also never saw anything different, just a better chance to give you as many compliments as he could at any given time.

then you hear loud heavy footsteps scurrying from inside the house, causing you to open your eyes open again, glance around, roll them and then close them again. you sat peacefully for a total of five seconds before a frantic franco screams your name from inside the house, causing you to wince at the sudden noice.

“come!! quickly!” franco rushed you into the house. the two of you sat at the dinner table, you still didnt know what was happening but franco was getting a phone call and his leg was bouncing anxiously. “que??” you questioned, he quickly shushed you as he picked up the phone. you rolled your eyes, why did he call you all the way here if he was just gonna want you to be quiet. but also if he did, it must be a really important call.

he put the phone on speaker and placed it down on the table.

“is this franco alejandro colapinto?” a calm soft voice spoke from the other line.

“yes, this is him” franco said in his best english he can muster.

“you are being summoned by williams to attend the british grand prix, you will be driving in fp1.” franco silently looked at you with complete and utter shock in his eyes.

“are you available to attend?” the person asked from the other line in contrary to francos silence.

he searched for reassurance in your eyes, you nodded your head at him pointing to the phone.

“uh.. y-yes!—mm” he cleared his throat “yes, i am” he rephrased in a more collected tone. he couldn’t believe this was happening, after everything he’d gone through—everything he’s sacrificed, everything his family sacrificed, to get to this point. he’d finally made it, even if it was just for fp1, it could possibly lead to him being in a seat one day. franco finished up the phone call, his composure holding on to a thread the whole time until he finally hung up.

immediately he stood up and scooped you into his arms. he tightly held you, taking in your scent and everything you are. he’d finally done it, and he couldn’t have without your help and encouragement. when times got tough, when it felt like he’d never make it, there you were to push him on and make him feel good about himself again. he genuinely doesn’t know what he’d do or where he’d be without you. he cupped your face, his lips clashing with yours into a passionate and loving kiss. the way he kisses you always sends tingles down your spine—the softness of his touches compared to the way his mouth moves against yours. you could feel how much he loves you in every kiss, touch, or words he speaks. his love for you is only in the purest form.

when tsukishima was still part of the sendai frogs, he traveled a lot. it's not like he was off in another country like some of his old teammates and rivals, no, you lived with him. even though you two had been dating for quite some time by this point, tsukishima still had trouble expressing his love for you. he tended to push you away whenever he was stressed even though the one thing he wanted the most was your comfort and loving. he was just worried he would end up snapping at you and making you hate him. he didn't know that you'd end up upset with him regardless. you loved him so much but you don't know how long you could going on like this. i mean come on! tsukishima was always away for volleyball matches and even when he's home...it's like he's still not even there. tsukishima knew that you were starting to slip away from him so one day he sat you down and explained how he was feeling and it was finally then that you understood why he acted the way he did. you tried protesting his decision to break up with you but he kept insisting it was for the better. by the next week tsukishima had moved out leaving you alone in the once shared apartment, wishing and hoping he'd come back one day.

everyone knew that atsumu could be hot headed most of the time when it came to volleyball but what they didn't know is that it would sometimes affect your relationship with him. much like tsukishima, he would close himself off from you whenever he was mad at the world or whatever else there is that could make him upset. it was starting to get tiring for you. you felt like you had to walk on egg shells around him just so he wouldn't snap at you (wether he meant to or not- his mind would always fog up). towards the end of your relationship, you could feel yourself start to get numb in regards to your feelings towards atsumu. atsumu couldn't really tell at this point that you were losing hope for the relationship. if anything he thought everything was normal but that was only because half of the time he was too much into his own thoughts to notice any flaws between the two of you. it wasn't until he came home one day after an away game on the other side of japan and found that all of your stuff was gone along with you, that he realized nothing is what it used to be. he found a note from you that explained that you weren't happy in the relationship anymore and that you felt trapped. you also stated that you hope he figures out his issues and that you'll always be there for him if he needs but that right now you just needed space. atsumu spent that night crying and angry at himself for letting your relationship get to this point.

From the beginning, you instantly had this electric connection. At 16 years old everything is intense but not at this level you thought. It's an indescribable feeling. almost as if you were two magnets pulled together by fate. University Chaos and Long-Distance Struggles

Franco is your biggest cheerleader just like you are of his. Chaos in the Paddock

When Franco made his way to F1, you became an instant hit among the other drivers and teams. Unlike the polished, camera-ready WAGs typically seen in the paddock, you're refreshingly candid, often seen wearing jeans and an oversized Boca Juniors or the Argentinian national team of football jersey. Your style was just relax and at some point not giving a fuck about royalty and money and status. You felt so much more beautiful with your vans on and baggy clothes. 

But you didn't only stand out because of your “so different” style. Reality was you were as unhinged as your boyfriend. You became the favorite WAG on the internet and the paddock as well. You were sweet to all of the fans and received all of the gifts for Franco you could take in your hands. Always sharing mates with everybody who wanted to join. Taking pics to social media and being hilarious roasting your boyfriend in front of the world. But that was just the way you showed love to each other. It was your code secret language. After the jokes vanish, only love remains between you two. Everyone was obsessed with your interviews just as any fan of the sport. People loved you because you read everything on social media regarding not only your boyfriends but the rest of the drivers. You became an f1 wag voggler on your instagram stories. 

All people at the paddock loved you. You were always there for everyone and anyone who needed a hand at anything. You liked to listen to people when they needed to. Franco knew he had the best comforting person in the world next to him and that made him feel really proud of himself. 

Also, you became a sensation when you started taking to races your pomeranian son called “polito”. You joined Alex and Kika at wags and mothers of dogs. You loved being part of the gang to be honest. 

All of the drivers' girlfriends were so welcoming and fun to be around. You always felt scared to not fit in his world or this world. You were a really private person but you pushed that aside the moment franco got into f1. You wanted nothing but supporting him and if that came along with being not so private anymore you’d take the risk anyway. And so far it worked out perfectly. You feel really comfortable with the life you have now. What scared you it didn't anymore. You were happy. 

One infamous moment happened during a race weekend. You were caught on camera yelling at Franco over team radio after he missed a breaking point in practice. Of course, it went viral.

“¡Qué hacés, boludo! Are you driving or playing Mario Kart?!” You were so competitive as well. You grew up watching and being involved in karting. You desperately wanted Franco to do more than good and that pressure and anxiety also made you iconic for people watching at home. 

The radio went silent before Franco’s sheepish voice replied, “Sorry, babe.”

The fans dubbed you the “Queen of Roasts.” Even Lando Norris couldn’t resist chiming in on media after the race:

Hi, ummm im an exchange student, im from Argentina studying in USA for a semester, im staying with a family, they are very good people, but also they are big fans of sports, they always invite me to watch football, or baseball, i have refused because im always studying, but yesterday they were acting strange, they said they were going today to the stadium and i was going with them no matter what, today i had planned to have a video call with my family in argentina, but i cant find my laptop, or my phone, also the only tshirt i could find, is a 3xl tshirt of a football team, and my skin is getting darker and darker like theirs, is something happening to me?

Hey there! I had no idea I had any followers from Argentina. I’m surprised my blog has had that wide of a reach. Though, from what you’ve told me, you probably won’t be from Argentina very long. There are a number of possibilities as for why you’re changing, like that you somehow accidentally entered a magical exchange program, or that your host family is responsible and using some method to transform you. Regardless of what is causing the change, the result they are going for is pretty clear: You’re becoming a real member of your host family, both in body and spirit. They’re african american, so the new you is african american. They’re into sports, so you’ll be into sports. They’re jocks, so now you’re a jock. 

You’re probably panicking, at least a little, but that won’t last long. Over the next few hours you’ll slowly forget about your old life. You’ll forget about growing up as a nerdy kid in Argentina and remember being a sexy american jock. You’ll forget your odd body, and even your family, as your mind is filled with playing sports, working out and picking up hotties of whichever gender you prefer. Slowly your panic will turn to cocky confidence and excitement for tonight's game! You always love watching the pros out there with your family. You can still remember the first football game your dad took you too. Or at least you will soon. 

For what it's worth, your new life will be a good one. You’re super attractive, have a body most young men would die for, have parents who are proud of you and a little brother who practically worships the ground you walk on. You’ll be happy, confident, successful, and cool. You won’t have to worry about your family. An exchange program is just that: an exchange. Even if it was your host family using a spell on you and not the exchange program itself doing the change, magic… while, I won’t say anything as cheesy as ‘magic comes with a price’ but… magic does have a sense of humor. Whoever got to go to Argentina as part of the exchange probably got transformed too. Not into you, since it clearly isn’t an exact exchange, but probably into someone who fits perfectly into his host family.

I hope that turns out. Maybe we’ll hear from him sometime.
