oh boy another chance for me to talk about how all over the place my music taste is !

i went back to listening to classic country after a few months break from it, riiiiiight before i started playing new vegas (like literally a day or two) so ive been almost exclusively listening to that lately lol. wrt country i tend to pick up one song at a time and rotate in my head for a while and my current one is pop a top by jim ed brown ! i love the way this guys enunciates his words + matched w the reverb rly scratches my brain lol. i also love how the chorus is written in such a way that it works as a return in the typical song-structure sense and also a way of progressing the plot, both on a meta level and in characters! with each chorus, he realizes he's been rambling and says he'll leave soon, but then continues anyway, both progressing the song and the story he's telling UGH its so cool

i've also in the last day or two picked up a lil fixation on tarzan boy by baltimora after watching todd in the shadows' video on it! ive been crazy into his channel lately, i love learning abt music history within the past century or so and he manages to combine that with simply reviewing popular music and i think thats neat . i dont even wanna yap about the song too much literally just watch the video and learn why im obsessed lol. the only thing else ill say is this is a song i kinda grew up listening to since my mom has always liked 80s new wave/alternative so finally learning the story surrounding it took it from "distant fondness" to "oughghh..... ouhh.,., i love this song.."

but if we're talking like my actual favorite song it's eternally between mos thoser by food house and brass goggles by steam powered giraffe

Late night thought but it's tormenting me:

Obviously, praying hoping BEGGING Hoyo to give Neuvillette two story quests (Furina also deserves another btw), because it's what he deserves and I will ALWAYS want more of that sad dragon man. But I can't help but thinking...

His second story quest could so easily start with the Traveler and Paimon walking through the Court of Fontaine, only for it to start raining. Obviously they're surprised and Paimon is fussy at first, but then a moment is all it takes for them to remember that, wait a second... we know someone who specifically is linked to the rain in Fontaine. And suddenly they are Concerned and immediately going to check up on Neuvillette who is either in his office or, ideally, staring forlornly at the sea or smth, and this lead into whatever events have him all melancholy...

Idk I'm just having a Vision, it'd be juicy

This has absolutely been discussed many times but I am once again losing it over the fact that "Rogue One" as a name is making sound out of silence.

It's formed as a last minute, emergency name for the shuttle, for the people aboard, for the mission when Bodhi says it; it has no precedent, nothing that came before it for that name to be used. But when Bodhi says it, it exists.

It both takes advantage of and retcons the Rogue Squadron we've seen before in the original trilogy, where there was no Rogue One. But there is now, because Bodhi said it.

Jyn's name, Cassian's name, K's name, Chirrut's name, Baze's name, Bodhi's name, every one of the rebels that are on the shuttle... none of them come up again in the things that temporally follow. Yes, those pieces of media were created before this film, but in the world of the story, they come after, and it becomes a remarkable silence.

Rogue One as the team that took Scarif and stole the Death Star plans exists as Rogue One because Bodhi pulls that name out of silence, out of nothing that preceded it. "Rogue One?! There is no Rogue One!" "Well, there is now." And after Scarif, there is no Rogue One again. It existed only for what it accomplished.

On a meta level, that's exactly what the film does as well-- it tells a story that was only a handful of vague lines before, draws it out of the lacunae and places itself where it belonged to tell a story that was restrained by the shape of the narrative that came before it and was unavoidably wrapped around it. It's the quintessential "doomed by the narrative."

There's also the fact that Jyn's theme is built around dies irae and reflexively creates a reference to her in parts of A New Hope and also makes the score tell you that she's doomed by the narrative to die but I've screamed enough already.

me: at the end of episode 52 of nv when everyone's saying goodbye, helios and drago talk abt hopefully the next time they meet they'll still be friends and be on the same side. when spectra shows up again in ms he tells them that yes they're still friends and on the same side, however when he comes back the brawlers are falling apart and dan has a link to magmel and is also generally being a Huge Jerk™, which might be an understatement. bringing back spectra during this arc was a brilliant idea bc other than being the writers' clear favourite, nv already set up parallels between dan and spectra and the contrast between how dan's acting and how even spectra of all people is actually disturbed and concerned by it shows how bad the situation has actually gotten.

mes was supposed to represent the good akk did. but akk was already failing at it by the time we met him. there's the scene in ep3 pt3 where wat, kan, and akk had a conversation on the stairs at night and talked about how akk could consider quitting as head of the prefect club if the pressure was too much - because people don't respect their authority as much anymore as they did during mes's time as the head prefect.

but akk sees it as a failure on his part - that HE'S the one who can't keep people in check, that HE'S not good enough. He even says that the struggle & challenge is a good thing, that if they (he) can get through it, it'll be "cool" (it'll mean that he's good enough).

so he's already decided that he's not a good person because he can't do good with this position and therefore he doesn't deserve good things - he deserves the pressure

but then ayan comes in and suddenly his world view shifts

but in this new perspective, he's STILL failed because he's been the bully, he's the one hurting people so no matter how he looks at it he's a bad person and he doesn't deserve good things. even if he still believed he was in the right this would be what he said, because in his eyes he's always failing.

but ayan is just there like i don't care i like you you're my boyfriend now

...so there must be SOMEthing good about him, right? because good things are happening to him?

AS FOR MES. imagine HIS position. he's not just telling akk all of this, this is how he grew up too, he's internalised all of this as well.  and suddenly he leaves suppalo and the world just doesn't work like that? it's not that black and white? and even if it was, what good has he done? his validation was coming from the school and from chadok. with neither around who is there to validate him? and what is he without that validation? no wonder he had a breakdown

which is also why it's so important to me that ayan's response was literally just i don't care. he does know all the bad things akk's done. and he knows all the good about him too. and yet there's no telling akk he's a good person - because that's all still outside validation.

akk is just loved because he is. he doesn't have to prove that to earn it. he just IS.

& that matches all the ways ayan tells akk he likes him. "i like being with you. i like it when you smile widely. i like seeing you with your parents." akk doesn't have to prove anything. just by being, he's enough.
