What is stimming?

This is of course my stim blog! Stimming is defined as "the repetitive performance of certain physical movements or vocalizations, as a form of behavior by persons with autism or other neurodevelopmental conditions; self-stimulation. This behavior is thought to serve a variety of functions, such as calming and expression of feelings" (Oxford Dictionary).

So my blog is dedicated to GIFs which are stimulating and serve sensory functions. These are visual representations of things that can cause us to stim, or even calm us down. This isn't to say that stimming can't be enjoyed by neurotypicals, however the visuals may be considered "satisfying" rather than sensory. And that's totally okay! Although I have AuDHD, and I created this blog for others like myself, I still welcome neurotypicals! That being said, I do have a DNI! So please read that below!

I go by stimmy or Joe here on Tumblr, feel free to send a DM or comment whenever! Especially since I don't have an ask page! My pronouns are he/they. I have autism and ADHD, and I've only recently been diagnosed with autism. I'm still working on dealing with my condition, and this blog is one of my coping mechanisms.

My blog is a stim archive, so I mostly just reblog source stims, not stimboards. My goals are to make sources as accessible as possible for stimboard makers, and to create a general hub for stims! I hope you can all find some joy in scrolling through my blog.

Here's what you can expect from my tagging system:

Stims will be tagged by color, including all major colors in frame. I also have "natural colors" and "primary colors" tags, and a "pastel" tag. White, brown, and black will all be followed by "stim" (e.g, "brown stim) to avoid posts ending up next to race-related posts. This is simply to simplify search for fellow stimblr members.

All stims will be categorized by whether they show hands or not as well. Those tags include "hands free", "tw hands", and also "almost hands free" for posts with a small portion of the hand in frame, extreme close-ups, and hands that are only in a few beginning or ending frames.

Other than that my tags are not super consistent. Let me know if there's other tags you believe I should have, I'm open to ideas!
