How about a kaz brekker x fem!reader who is a crow and is really sunshine AND badass (like awesome thief but also super friendly, funny and kind with everyone). They can be in a relationship or just pining, and Kaz is like trying to share more with her and trying to get over his touch aversion with her but it's not easy, so she's very patient and supporting with him, because he is only thinking about how weak he is that he "can't even hold hands with his loved one" and that stuff.

Maybe fluff/ flangst? (whatever works for you! I just want some kazzle dazzle content✨)

As I walk into the room, seeing Inej and Jesper sat around a table, I cheerily smile at them. “And how is everyone this wonderful evening?” My cheery demeanor usually putting everyone in a better mood. My smile drops as they glance, almost sadly, at each other and then back at me. I raise an inquisitive brow at them, before noticing the lack of a certain presence. “Where’s Kaz?”

Jesper lets out a deep sigh, shaking his head as he looks at the stairs that lead to Kaz’s room. He leans in, his voice low, “Locked away in his room, hasn’t been a good day for him, I’m afraid.” A tinge of sadness runs through my heart.

I’d been working with Kaz for a good while, not just with him on jobs but on his touch aversion. I’m patient with him, letting him move at his own pace to never push him farther than he’s willing. He has his good days and his bad days. Inej informed me that as they were walking down the street, somebody had fallen into him; triggering his PTSD. This was a bad day.

I nod understandingly before making my way to the stairs, Jesper turns briskly. “Don’t, (Y/N).. It’s really not a good time.” I shake my head at his words, “It’s nothing I haven’t seen before.” Then I start my way up the stairs, knocking softly on the wooden door. “Kaz?” My voice is barely above a whisper, gentle and soothing. I hear no movement. “Kaz? C’mon, it’s me.. Open the door.” I repeat a little louder, keeping my soft tone. I hear some rustling behind the door, then multiple locks being undone. I take a deep sigh as I wait for the door to open.

The door opens just a crack, his eye peering through the crack. “What do you want?” His voice is stern, but not rude. I give him a soft, reassuring smile; “Bad day, hm?” He nods in response, staying silent. “You going to let me in?” I ask softly, fiddling with my hands.

He says nothing, just opens the door slowly, backing away and letting me inside. He takes a few steps away from me, distancing himself considerable. It must have been really bad today. I give him a sympathetic smile, making sure to keep my distance. I take a seat in the chair across the room. “Do you wanna talk about it?” He shrugs, taking a seat on the bed across from me glancing down almost shamefully at his ungloved hands. I take mental note of this, bringing my gaze to his as he starts to speak.

“I thought it was working..” He mumbles quietly, and my heart aches for him. “Kaz.. This isn’t an easy thing to overcome, you are doing better, but there are going to be good and bad days.. What matters is that you persevere, you have people here that support you. Good and bad.”

He nods slowly, “I know.. But it is hard, so hard. It’s as though I’m putting in all this effort, for even a little bit of hope just to have it all swept away by some.. accidental run in at the wrong time.” He shakes his head, almost angrily. “One brush of an arm from a stranger on the street and I’m back.. there.” He refers to his past, the anger suddenly building in his body as he throws his cane forcefully into the shelves on the side wall. I gasp, flinching a bit. He rarely lashes out in anger like this, but it never gets easier when he does. He stands abruptly, and begins pacing, causing me to stand as well. “K-Kaz..” I stammer, my heart beating rapidly in my chest. Suddenly I hear a knock at the door, causing Kaz to snap his gaze towards it. I hold my hand up to Kaz as I make my way to the door, opening it slightly, hiding the mess Kaz had made.

Jesper is standing there, a very worried look on his face; “Is everything okay?”

I nod, before mouthing the words. “Just a bad day, remember?” He gives a sympathetic look before descending down the stairs again. I shut and lock the door behind me as I return my attention to Kaz. He looks down at the mess and then back up at me, his eyes sad as if his heart just shattered into a million pieces. “I’m sorry..” He whispers, sitting on the edge of the bed and placing his head in his hands. I shake my head, “It’s okay, Kaz..” He shakes his head, “It isn’t.” I glance down at the shattered glass on the floor before kneeling beside it and beginning to pick up the pieces. “No.. Stop, you don’t have to clean that-“ Before he even gets to finish the sentence I hiss In pain, a sharp piece of glass cutting my finger. He stands suddenly, lunging worriedly to my aid, but before his hands can grab yours, he freezes. His eyes dart to mine in panic and a tear rolls down his cheek, “I-I can’t, I’m sorry..” His voice is a broken whisper, and I can feel the pain radiating from him. I nod understandingly, giving him a reassuring smile as I stand and grab a towel. I wrap my finger as I glance over at him, he’s still on the floor beside where I was, completely defeated.

“Why are you fighting so hard for this, Kaz?” I ask him, not rudely, just to get him to remember why we started working on it in the first place. He lets out a shaky breath, standing to his feet.

“I want to be better..” He whispers, still looking at the floor. “You are the sweetest, most kind woman I know.. You’re hurt and I can’t even hold your hand. You deserve to be held, (Y/N)..” He sounds so sad as the words leave his mouth.

I step towards him, this time he doesn’t back away, only a brief moment of panic. “You want to hold me?” I whisper softly, realizing wasn’t fighting for him, he was fighting for me. He finally brings his gaze to mine, my sweet, caring features immediately calming him again. “Yes..” Is all he can manage as he steps closer to me. “One step at a time, Kaz.. Don’t push yourself, okay?” He nods in response, a soft smile on his face as he brings a hand up to my cheek, I stay completely still and let him move as he wishes, the backs of his knuckles brushing lightly across the soft skin. Baby steps.

“Just.. be patient with me, okay?” He whispers.

“Always...” I return, a look of adoration on my face as his hand gently lays against my cheek.

“You’re why I’m still fighting, (Y/N)..”

My favorite character for season 1 was Jesper cause he was so charming, hilarious, and always wore his heart on his sleeve

General Kirigan has been and will always be my least favorite character of the Grishaverse

My least favorite ship will always be Darklina, it's toxic, how do you expect me to like it?

Episode 5 was the best, it was chaotic as hell! You have Alina living her dream life and Jesper limping around with that stable boy while Kaz, Inej, and Mal are running around trying not to die. It was incredible!

I don't hate episode 2, it's just there wasn't that much going on

My favorite moment has to be when Jesper, Kaz, and Inej first appeared on the show. That was simply iconic!

Watching Kirigan grow antlers out of Alina's collarbones made me really uncomfortable

I also made one for season 2!

This time around, the best character trophy must go to Kaz Brekker. I mean, you all saw season 2 right? He was practically drowning in angst. His pain is now bare for the viewers to see, he was extremely vulnerable, but simultaneously badass and formidable

Kirigan is still the worst

Kanej is always the best OTP, okay? Especially this season. Kaz cleaned her wound, Inej watched out for him and pulled him out of the crowd when he was panicking, her dream, their goodbye scene? Okay, bye, that's enough. Should I say more, I'm going to cry.

Darklina still the worst

Need I explain myself when I say that Episode 4 was the best? The best scene of the entire show is the Kaz and Pekka showdown. The lighting, the dialogue, THE ACTING!!! FREDDY FUCKING KILLED IT!!! It's as if he extracted Kaz's spirit from the books, turned it into a beverage and drank it. He poured his heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears out on the screen... so someone give him an Academy Award, or else!

Episode 7 was the worst episode of the show. There were very little of the Crows, the so-called battle scene was horribly choreographed and cringy, and they made my beloved Jesper COMPLETELY out of character by making him chop off that tidemaker's fingers. Listen, Jesper is tough, but there's no way he would do something like that.

The best moment, I spoke about before, will always be the Kaz and Pekka showdown. In fact, it's not just the best scene of the season, it's the best scene of the entire show!

The battle scene in episode 7 is the worst yet. I mentioned it before, I don't think I need to repeat myself.

"Jesper, new job!" Kaz said as soon as the both of you found him perusing the dim and rain-slicked streets; his back had been turned to you, and you were certain you saw him speaking to somebody who very swiftly disappeared upon the sound of Kaz's voice.

Kaz hardly gave him a glance as he walked past him, "Come along." You rolled your eyes but followed as you tapped on Jesper's arm, and he quickly followed as well.

"She did it again," he muttered. "Did what?" you asked quietly. "Inej was here," he said quietly, "So, where we going?"

You shrugged, "To see someone name Poppy." Jesper paused but quickly returned to walk by your side as he looked at Kaz who was walking ahead, "Oh... that's a joke right?"

You shook your head, "No. Who is this Poppy?" you asked. "A former friend and partner," he answered, "And now they hate Kaz."

"Ha, I wonder why?" you said sarcastically. Jesper took your hand and pulled you quicker with him to Kaz's side. "So!" he started and cleared his throat, "We need a demo man."

"You're still on that?" Kaz asked. Jesper frowned, "I just brought it up tonight."

Kaz shook his head, "Jesper, you ask for an explosives expert on every job."

"Because I don't want to be the one you point to and say, 'Explode something for us'. That is not a Jesper talent. I shoot things with style. And I look good. Just play to my strengths, boss."

"But wouldn't you look really cool with a building exploding behind you?" you asked, "I saw things like that in movies--something from where I came from, it's acting--it was awesome."

Jesper pointed at you, "Now, you, you would look really cool, y/n." You pointed at yourself, "Me?"

"How about we take a vote for y/n to be our new explosives expert?"

"No," you said with a scoff. "Oh, come on," Jesper said, "You'd be a total badass than you are now, and it's definitely will be a hot thing to do."

"Shut up."

"She already has a job," Kaz said as he for some reason glared down, and you followed his glare to Jesper's hand still holding yours without realizing it, and you let go.

"Yeah, I already have a job, and it's my shadow thingy," you said quietly. "Now," Kaz started as he continued forward, "Alina Starkov will be kept at the Little Palace. Entering the Little Palace requires us to be quiet. Blowing something up, we've likely failed."

"Well, we have y/n's shadow controlling job, the job will be easy," Jesper said. "Not enough control," Kaz said, "Anything can go wrong." Jesper frowned, "I think she has enough control, at least I think so. So does Inej. Besides, with y/n's shadows and Inej's skill, both girls together, unstoppable."

You smiled lightly and glanced at Kaz. "What do we do with Inej?" you asked, "Because I already said, if she's not going, I'm not going."

"I remember that," he said. Jesper let out a sigh, "We're at Pekka's turf now," he muttered, "The bouncers will know you on sight."

"That's why I brought you," Kaz said as he looked at him, "Make sure they don't see us." You pointed at yourself and then him as if asking, 'I'm going in with you?'

Kaz nodded for you to follow him and you walked away as you heard Jesper, "Handsome decoy is also not a Jesper talent."

You used the dark corroders for you and Kaz to slip in and quickly into a room he said Poppy will be there. "Boris, would you--" You looked over as Kaz stepped to their view and he grinned.

"It's been a while, Poppy," he said. Poppy quickly grabbed a small pistol and you frowned. "I see you're still upset," he said.

"About you stealing my shares of the Crow Club?" Poppy asked sarcastically. "It wasn't stealing," Kaz said, "It was just a raw deal. Most deals in the Barrel are."

"What do you want, Dirtyhands?" Poppy asked and their eyes peered over to you, "And who is this pretty girl you have hiding behind you?" They put the pistol away as you moved to Kaz's side.

"A friend," Kaz answered for you. You looked from him to Poppy, "Uh, I'm y/n, nice to meet you..."

"Poppy, pleasure."

You nodded slightly as Kaz turned their attention to him, "We need to find someone. Or at least, learn how to find them. Tonight."

Poppy began carefully applying lip stain, "Looking for a club act, are we?"

"We're looking for the Conductor," you spoke and Poppy turned to you in surprise. Kaz raised an eyebrow, "So you do know him."

"This is about a job, isn't it?" Poppy asked as you looked around the room, "One that sends you all the way east, for a million kruge? You'll never make enough to compete with Pekka, you know? He's a king. You're just the Bastard of the Barrel."

Your eyes landed on a pile of jewels and fabrics, between them there was a piece of crumpled paper hiding there. You curiously moved the jewelry away and looked at the paper, frowning at the symbol resting upon it.

You knew that symbol.

You took the paper and showed it to Kaz, who stared down at it before speaking, "Tante Heleen wrote you?"

"Just this evening, yes, you snoops," Poppy said, "She was asking about the Conductor as well. Probably about the same job. So I warned him to steer clear of her."

"You warned him?" you asked before Kaz could, clearly both of you thought the same thing. "Don't tell me you send a note."

Poppy turned their head to look at you and frowned before they nodded, "Yes... I did. Why?"

Kaz clenched his jaw, "She wanted you to do that so she could have the messenger followed," he said. Poppy looked between you and Kaz, "She wouldn't hurt him, would she?"

Kaz took a step forward, "She would if it meant hurting me. Now, if you have any loyalty to him, tell us where he is. Right now."

Poppy gave away the address right away, and you and Kaz went quickly to get to the Conductor. When you reached the building, Kaz send you to ran quicker up the stairs, and you did.

"Ask the Saints for me," you heard Inej's voice and ran into the room to see her having the man pinned against a chair and a knife against his throat.

"Inej, don't!" you said and instantly, a knife was thrown toward you, but you dodged before it hit you, and instead it hit the wall, the spot where you stood before.

You let out a breath you didn't knew you were holding and looked back at Inej. She stared at you in surprise, and her expression turned shock and horrified for almost hurting you.

You stepped forward, "We need him. He's our way to Alina Starkov."

Inej let out a breath of disbelief as Kaz walked in, "Him?" she asked as she glared down at the man, still holding the knife against his throat.

"Heleen knew it, Inej," you said softly, "She was using you to sabotage us."

She shook her head, "She and I made a deal."

"It isn't worth more than what we get with him alive," Kaz spoke. Inej turned her head to glare at Kaz, her eyes were burning with tears threatening to slip, "You choose him over my freedom?"

"No," you suddenly said and took a step forward, "This reward and your freedom are not mutually exclusive. You'd really think I'd agree to go if they were? You think I'd stop you if it meant for your freedom?"

Inej stared at you as a tear slipped down her cheek. She slowly turned to the whipping man for a moment before she withdrew her knife, and the Conductor let out a shallow breath.

Inej let out a breath as she stepped away from him. You quickly moved forward and took her hand, squeezing it gently as she looked at you.

Will you be okay? you wanted to ask but didn't. It seemed she knew what you asked by your eyes, and nodded lightly, as Kaz stepped forward.

He looked down at the Conductor with a glare, "Conductor. I have a job for you."

CONTEXT:

I started watching the shadow and bone series a long time ago and ABSOLUTELY LOOOVED Kaz Brekker!!! He is so cool to this day, so badass!!! Anyways-

I tried ro read the book back then but i couldn't get through the "Joost" chapter.

I bought the book in hopes of reading through it this time after recently watching season 2 of shadow and bone on netflix and bet if i did!!!

READING THE BOOK:

I got to the first introduction of Kaz and then to his first conversation as Inej watched from a far, if u know, u know. Anyways. That REALLY peaked my interest. So i continued, even youtube couldn't measure up as entertainment!

I have a new appreciation for Nina Zenik and Matthias Helvar. I think in the book i like them more. I like their story, how their vast different upbringings and cultures clash and crash all the time, and how dramatic it is, i love it!!!

Their story made me BELIEVE in their love. As one that identifies with Brekker, to thats not easy to do. To make me believe in their love.

(also love the moments that all the other characters gets as well. Especially inej's inner fire igniting, very awsome. I am now thirsting to get to the nearest book shop and buy Crooked kingdom)

I will maybe post a small analysis of why the book was so good and why nina and helvar worked so well in my opinion. So ye watch out for that!:D

This is such an evil question lmao. I have fallen deeply in love with Gideon and Harrow from the Ninth House series. Jude Duarte from The Folk of the Air series made me obsessed with the name Jude and I just adore her. Charlie from The Book of Night is a complete and total badass! Kaz Brekker and Inej from Six of Crows, Delilah Greene from Delilah Greene Doesn’t Care, Booker and Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite, Iron Bull and Blackwall and Cullen and Josephine from Dragon Age Inquisition, Arthur and John from Malevolent, Jon and Martin and Bashira from The Magnus Archives, Caduceus Clay from Critical Role campaign 2, and many MANY more! I can’t pick favorites lol

Last place you traveled?

Last place we went to beyond our usual haunts was the mall down in Cincinnati to attempt to go to the Squishables store for Mother’s Day (it hadn’t actually opened yet in spite of what google said)

Everything I liked about Shadow and Bone season 2 (warning: much comments about the crows + fangirling about the cast):

SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2!!!

- first off all the new characters are amazing, I'm in love with Nikolai, still not over how perfect Jack is as Wylan, and Tolya and Tamar were so god damn cool I can't

- also everyone looked so good

- loved the whole part where they were in Bhez Ju (and the story about Sankta Neyar)

- Freddy Carter I bow down to you that performance was amazing, seriously I couldn't picture a better kaz

- also Daisy was so good too, like I was crying everytime she was on screen

- and basically everyone else, I'm so amazed by this whole cast, they really all brought these characters to life

- while wesper pining is like one of my favourite things in the books, i still really enjoyed what they did in the show

- just Wylan looking at Jesper like he is the only person that matters

- Jesper's reaction to Wylan playing piano had me smiling like an idiot

- AND THE KISS i gasped so loud... i was giggling and kicking my feet in the air and had to replay the scene

- also kanej was everything this season, we got so many scenes from the books and more (really glad they didn't kiss, though... netflix really had me worried at some points that it would happen)

- Nina Zenik was amazing the whole time, just her comments and looks whenever Kaz was being an idiot

- helnik had me in chokehold

- Kaz' reaction at wesper kissing was so funny (also not him cockblocking them in the morning, a really Kaz thing to do + Jesper's "No!" had me rolling)

- "I kinda like your face." just let me die here and now

- Tolya talking about poetry and him helping wesper

- Jesper realizing he HAS met Wylan before, only when he was LAYING ON TOP OF HIM... in the middle of a FIGHT

- Wylan talking about butterflies while everyone is dying, please he just wanted to tell Jesper they are so cute

- Jesper meeting his mother again I CRIED

- just Kaz' whole backstory, already hung on every page when I read it, my emotions were all over the place seeing it on screen

- Kaz talking to Pekka Rollins, just that whole performance deserves an Oscar thank you

- literally every fight scene

- first meeting of Nikolai and Kaz/Jesper (and Kaz figuring Nikolai out SO FAST and him side eyeing Jesper)

- Jesper calling Kaz his brother... this show wants me dead

- Nina and Inej friendship

- Jesper in a Kilt for like half of the season

- Nikolai revealing who he really is had me on the floor, i love that man so much (also Alina punching him in the face for keeping it a secret lol)

- Alina being a badass queen. That's it.

- felt so bad for Mal this season, my man was really going through it damn

- Ben Barnes' performance as the darkling was so good, but we already knew that

- Genya and David had my heart... I was already emotional every time they were on screen together but when Genya found the ruby and the scetch of the ring I was bawling my eyes out

- everytime Genya and Alina hugged

- Tamar and Nadia just being happy lesbians in the background, good for them (wish we would have seen more of them)

- just every Tolya and Tamar interaction (especially the hug when Tolya came back), also wished we could have seen more them

- Jesper hugging Inej and twirling her around (they are best friends i love them so much)

- the whole sequence of Alina and Mal at the end destroying the fold

- Matthias seeing the wolves and feeding them + the scene at the end where he doesn't fight against them and they stand next to him instead

- the difference between Nina telling everyone Matthias is the love of her life and him being in hellgate, having the worst time of his life, because he hates her but also really doesn't

- Inej killing the shadow monsters with the sword (what a queen)

- Zoya just being herself

- "And how will you have me?", that whole scene had me holding my breath....

- "I will have you without your armor, Kaz Brekker. Or I won't have you at all." screaming into my pillow

 While Kaz spoke, Matt made his way over to a few strewn about crates and leaned against one of them, legs slightly crossed. His gaze was trained on the ground until he let out a quiet chuckle. Crossing his arms in front of his chest, he looked back up at Kaz and shrugged his shoulders. "I think I've learned my lesson by now. I'm a terrible liar, and you're too good at sniffing out bullshit. It wouldn't do me any good, other than pissing you off. And I don't think that's something I enjoy doing."

 Then he considered the possibility of using his powers as a tool for the Dregs, dropping his gaze again and chewing his lower lip while lost in thought. He missed using his powers, missed the freedom he felt when jumping across rooftops that were impossible for other, normal humans, there was no denying it. And he could feel the consequences of not using them, too. His body had felt off ever since he stopped, and exhaustion came much quicker, while smaller injuries —unavoidable in his line of work— took much longer to heal. Despite that, he was terrified. He could hold his own in an honest fight, but slavers didn't fight fair. "We'll see." It was the best he could offer. 

 Watching as Kaz cleaned the head of his cane, Matt let out a singular chuckle and shook his head with some amusement. "Point taken. You're a badass, Kaz Brekker, and I'm grateful you came to my rescue." Then his eyes drifted to one of the bodies and, for a while, he didn't say anything at all. "They're members of the Black Dragon clan. One of the biggest and most powerful clans in all of Shu Han." Matt knew he didn't need to point it out, knew Kaz probably had already put some of the puzzle pieces together. But he still undid the buttons of his jacket and shrugged it off until it revealed his bare arms — and along with it the dragon tattoo that covered half of his right arm. "So was I. At least until I found out that I was being kept in the dark about what we— they truly did. We did a lot of the same things the gangs here in the Barrel do, but.. They got their fingers in everything. They're in bed with criminals, merchants, government officials and even the royal family itself. One night we had two separate shipments come in, and I was responsible for one of them. But there was a mix up, and they sent me the wrong one. When I opened the container—" Matt paused, his gaze growing unfocused. "It was supposed to be a small batch of experimental weapons we were going to sell to the army. But it wasn't. It was— It was people. Mostly men, all of them young and healthy. Some of them hardly older than maybe 13 or 14. They begged me to let them go. Begged me to spare their life. Everyone's heard rumours about there being experiments done on Grisha by our own people, but I never believed them. Not until that night."

 Clearing his throat, Matt's eyes snapped back into focus and he rubbed the back of his neck while looking up at the other. "I fled, and they've been after me ever since. I know too much." Which was true. Just not entirely the whole truth. In order to gloss over that fact, he stood up and once again turned his attention to the bodies. He knew he owed them nothing, but he still couldn't help but feel a small pang of guilt at what he'd done. "And where exactly do I... You know.. Dispose of them?"

      Kaz had his reasons for coming alone — and most of them had to do with either ensuring their survival or respecting Matt’s privacy. He certainly could have sent men after him, but Matt didn’t know them enough, didn’t trust them enough, not yet. This had clearly been something personal that he’d initially wanted to keep that way, but … Kaz had an inkling that Matt wouldn’t want that kind of business observed by people who didn’t understand his situation at least somewhat. Aside from that … well. Certainly none of the other Dregs was known for getting into a fight to the death against more than five people and making it out alive. However, Kaz elected to come back to that.

   ❝I don’t blame you for keeping it a secret until now,❞ said Kaz, offering a slight shrug of his shoulder as well. ❝For a moment, I was just wondering if you were going to try and deny it.❞ That smirk was still in place and, with the light tone of his voice, it was clear he was aiming for a joke. Kaz was teasing him about what had happened in his office weeks prior — when Matt had seriously injured himself to an obvious degree, but he’d continued to deny it, despite the obvious. However, his eyes drifted off to the side and that smirk of his softened slightly.

   ❝You know me well enough now. I don’t have any interest in revealing your secret, that choice is yours. The Dregs don’t care if you’re grisha and neither do I — it’s just like having a particular skill that others don’t. If we get a job where that skill would be useful, I’ll ask you to do it and I’ll do my best to make sure you can do it discretely. If you refuse, it’s not like I can force you.❞ He would certainly try to convince him, if it was something crucial and Kaz Brekker was nothing if not crafty when it came to convincing, but … that was as far as he’d ever go.

   ❝I came alone because I had a feeling you didn’t want just anyone to be privy to your past,❞ Kaz continued, his gaze drifting to the head of his cane as he lifted it, inspecting it closely for damage. He evidently saw none, but again, he produced his handkerchief and cleaned the excess blood off the head. ❝Plus … I’ve taken on my entire gang in a fight and won, so — I was the best choice anyway.❞

   Seeming satisfied, he lowered his cane back down to lean against it, tucking the handkerchief back into his jacket pocket. He cast a glance around at the mess they’d made and Kaz felt sickness churn uncomfortably in his stomach at the mere thought of corpses, of the smell of death that would no doubt follow.

   ❝I imagine a squaller could dispose of bodies without having to deal with the mess that traditionally comes with the task,❞ he cast a glance back over at Matt. Kaz thought he could handle moving the bodies if he really had to, but … there was always the chance that he would overestimate himself.

Also I want to see Wylan doing something badass and/or unhinged. I want him to build something astonishingly destructive and then pretend like he doesn’t know it’s a weapon of mass destruction lmao.

Kaz was the most closed-off person you knew. He never revealed anything, wether it was his feelings or the details of a new plan, and it enraged you. That's why you took it upon yourself to see just how far you could push him.

Flirting with Kaz Brekker wasn't an easy task, nor was it rewarding but it sure was fun. The crows loved to see which new technique you would have used and what effect it would have had on Kaz. It was usually a simple glare; a snarky comment when you were lucky. Bets were made on his reactions and you soon became a part of it.

"What are we thinking today, Y/n?" started Jesper while walking you down to the club, "I'm betting on a smirk."

"A smirk?!" you asked surprised, "I'm not even sure Kaz can smile..."

"He can, i've seen him once. I thought i was dreaming but when i pointed it out, he glared at me. I knew it was real when he whacked me with his cane." stated Jesper, shivering at the memory. You couldn't help but laugh at his theatrics. "Why do you do it, by the way?"

You took a moment to answer, suddenly serious again.

Truth was that all the innocent flirty comments you made −comments that started out as nothing more than a pastime− soon changed something in you. They were becoming truthful, and seeing Kaz answer with nothing but a dismissive comment was not easy. Trying to evoke feelings in him, inadvertently awoke feelings in you. Feelings for your boss that you shouldn't have had.

"Do i need a reason? It's fun, why do you talk to yourself in the mirror when you think no one's watching?" you retorted, raising eyebrows in genuine question.

"First of all, you shouldn't have seen that. Second of all, you should try it, you'd feel much better afterwards." he said simply and you tried restraining the smile that inevitably made its way on your face.

You entered the club which was, as always, in full swing. Several people were already ordering at the bar all kinds of alcohol while many others were betting all their possessions at the tables. Only the dregs knew that the real bets were being placed under the tables.

"Ten that he doesn't say anything." you heard someone whispering.

You were the newest of the dregs and of the crows, but you had already earned yourself a reputation.

"Twenty that he finally kicks her out." another voice from somewhere in the club.

That one made you shiver. Would he really reach a point where he would fire you? You were a useful member, you wouldn't have made it into the crows if you weren't, but were you too much? Would he eventually get tired of you?

You walked over to your usual table with Jesper to meet Inej. Kaz wasn't there yet and you were really thinking of ending it there, no more flirting, no more jokes. This was your job, nothing else.

"What do you have for us, boss?" asked Jesper as he saw Kaz approaching.

He looked as he always does: black refined clothes clinging to him in an assortment of sharp edges, making him look even more direful to new merchants. He looked dashing the way a raging sea at night is; frightening, yet enticing. And that was wrong, you reminded yourself.

"It was a dead end." he said, sitting down.

He was in a gloomy mood, certainly for the news, and even though you knew you would have let down the whole club, you couldn't help but think of the comment you had heard moments ago.

"Twenty that he finally kicks her out."

You loved working and simply being with the crows and the possibility of being kicked out was positively frightening.

But you couldn't simply stop. Everyone would have noticed something was off, he would have noticed. And then what? He would have known you liked him.

You had to do something big, something he couldn't simply ignore. You might have been out of the dregs for good, or maybe not.

Jesper kicked your shin under the table, making you focus back on the real word and motioning at all the dregs in the club, looking expectantly at you.

Kaz and Inej were now talking about something you weren't quite getting, their voices seemed distant as you tried to forget about everyone's eyes on you. You had made it a thousand times already, you could do it once more.

"So, what are we going to do now?" asked Jesper and Kaz leaned back in his chair.

"I have some other leads we can try, but we'll have to split up." he started, the prospect of new kruge in his pockets making him incredibly more cheerful, "Jesper, Inej heard something about a particularly pricey painting in east stave, she'll bring you there and you'll learn more about it. And Y/n," he began and you perked up.

It was your moment to say something and get it over with.

"We'll go to west stave, i need your help with a lead there."

"Oh, you need me?" you said, your tone excessively teasing.

"That's what i said, but i can ask Inej." he replied drily.

You hesitated but you were not one to back down, especially not in front of one of Kaz's passive aggressive comments.

"But then you wouldn't get to stare at me longingly while i work, would you?" you said, pouting slightly.

You could have expected a retort, a glare, a not-so-nice hand gesture, but not him storming out of the club.

The entirety of the dregs was dumbfounded, Jesper and Inej, who never participated in the bets but still knew about them, were agape. You were mortified.

"Maybe," began Inej, "You should go talk to him."

"And meet my demise?" you asked.

"There must be a reason why he stormed out-"

"Yes, that he would have liked to kill me but blood stains are tough to remove." Jesper laughed but you were quite serious.

You got up either way, you had to explain yourself to him, you owed him at least that, and got out.

You found him not so far from the club's entrance, leaning on the railing over the river. You approached him unsurely.

"Kaz." he didn't turn around, so you got closer to the railing and noticed that his face, even in the night with the palest light of the street lamps, was scarlet. "I'm- i'm sorry, i will stop."

He remained silent.

"That is if you still want me in the crows, if not i'll leave tonight obviously." he turned to you, usually-perfect hair now slightly tousled, face still red and unreadable.

"Why wouldn't i?" he asked.

"I'm always teasing you and i figured you hated that. I will stop."

"What if i don't want you to?" your head perked up and he turned back towards the horizon, but a smirk crept up on his face. He didn't bother hiding it.

"So you can smile?" he rolled his eyes.

"I don't like it when people point out things i obviously do, you should have noticed back there."

Heat rushed to your face and the smile he had plastered onto his face turned into a complacent one.

"It was real? You stare at me longingly?" you asked bewildered.

He looked at you once before turning to the horizon once more, "Obviously not."

But you could sense he was lying.

"Told you he could smile, Y/n!" shouted Jesper from behind you.

You both turned around to find Jesper and Inej surrounded by the dregs and a couple of other clients too, all jostling to get a better look of the scene.

"It'll be hard for him not to, i'm afraid." joined in Inej and you bit your lip to refrain the laughter. Kaz's annoyed expression didn't help you maintaining a straight face.

"I'm not paying you to stand here doing nothing, get back inside." he ordered.

Everyone turned back inside but Jesper and Inej.

"Boss, if Y/n now gets double, just know i'm great at flirting too." stated Jesper as Kaz made his way back to the club, you in tow.

He ignored him and whacked him with his cane. Again. Jesper had now yet another lovely cane story to add to his collection.

"You'll never let him forget it, won't you?" you whispered. Jesper looked at you like a child who had just entered candy land.

"Never."

Placing different characters into TWST

Gonna merge characters from different books I’ve read into twst wonderland not even disney shit i dont care ( FT: howl pendragon, chrestomanci, wizard derk, melkor, feanor, sauron, maeglin, ezra squall, Prince Talithan, zaknafein, jerricho barrons, runaan, aaravos, viren, kaz brekker and the rest of the Crows, low key lothaire)

Howl Pendragon would be someone from another world who purposefully found some way to get through the mirror and become an NRA student. Every time for holidays he either hangs out to do research or spends his time back home in Wales lying his ass off about his college to his sister. And yes in school he uses his fake name he would at first be in Scarabia but later transferred to Octaniville. He’s also in the Spelldrive club and will absolutely join in the championship against RSA. He would go to RSA pretending to be Silvester Oaks and have this double life just to get as much shit as possible. 

Chrestomanci / Christopher Chant, he came here from another world (his own) he’s trying really hard to get back and is also lying his ass off about being a student and absolutely no one notices except for Professor Trein. He would be in Heartslabyul, makes friends with Howl since Howl seems to know a lot about dimensional magic. He would be around investigating everything and getting into everyone’s shit so that he could get closer to his goal of leaving. He definitely gets into hijinks with Howl to perpetrate Crowley’s office and living quarters. He’s very vague so Riddle gets pissy when he acts like that but he has very little against him since Chrestomanci knows all the rules and just uses as many loopholes as he can find. If we put Chrestomanci as his attitude when he’s an adult he’d be in Pomefiore but for teen Chrestomanci its absolutely Heartslabyul. (from the chronicles of Chrestomanci he’s not the main character not until the third book but he is an all powerful enchanter that had nine lives)

Prince Talithan, he’s an dark elven prince who is a little murder happy, loves pegasi, he’d be in Diasmonia because he’s an immortal all powerful elf. He doesn’t mind doing what Malleus says so but he definitely does not like it when Sebek bosses him around, has no opinion on Silver, at first didn’t like Lilia but Lilia schooled him and now he has massive respect for Lilia. (btw this is an elf from Dark Lord of Derkholm his role in that story was to lose his mind over a baby pegasus and to kill people). 

Wizard Derk, Ignihyde absolutely, he wants to live a quiet life and just goes along with the flow but he manages to be friends with Talithan because they’re both in the Horse riding club and Talithan is just blown over with how great he is with horses. He should have been in RSA but managed to get in NRC and he’s stuck here now. A very good boi all things considered has a girlfriend he’s devoted to and she’s very badass in his eyes. I want him to accidentally be friends with Malleus and now they just vibe together with Malleus going on about Gargoyles and he’s just like listening politely while wondering if he can make a gargoyle come to life or an animal that resembles a gargoyle. (he’s from the same story as Talithan and in that story he likes making hybrid animals with magic and giving them human sentience also he makes friends with the king of the dragons AND the king of demons) 

Ezra Squall, THIS BITCH would be in Scarabia. He’s is a conniving motherfucker and Jamil is stressed with his existence low key wants him to move to Diasomnia because he’s stupidly strong in magic. Very studious kinda full of himself joins no club because he’s off doing things on his own that no one really knows about. He would have taken over Scarabia but he saw what went down with Jamil and decides to think more on it later. (from Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend he is the main villain for the series and i haven’t read the latest one yet. He wants the main character of that story to join him and be evil and powerful and to fight some other evil force and also he used to be really hot so yeah)

Melkor, Diasomnia no question. Hates Malleus being the housewarden and challenges him pretty often, he’s actually almost on par with Malleus and gets really salty about not winning and talks on and on about might as well making his own dorm and being generally disruptive. Malleus is just there like oh well good game u did what u did. Melkor is also very intimidating so him and Malleus both have a infamous background but with him it makes more sense and its far more risky to talk to him. Spends his time trying to convince Mairon to either join in his idea to make up their own dorm or help him take over Diasomnia. Mairon, is in Scarabia he’s very similar to Jamil except that he doesn’t really care for Kalim and his shenanigans. Ezra has tried to get him on his side but he’s already dealing with Melkor so he has no time to even bother. Very studious and is the only reason Melkor studies at all. He kind of likes the idea of a new dorm wouldn’t be so bad for the Great Seven to have a new addition wouldn’t it? I personally dont want him to be good at spelldrive skskksksksk. I want him to struggle on a broom dont ask why. He’s favorite teacher is Crewel I don’t know where i got this but I just FEEL IT. (sauron this is sauron )

Feanor, he’s also in Scarabia. Tells Melkor to fuck off regularly also tells Ezra to fuck off regularly. Studies a lot and is so pissed that Riddle is top at everything. It’s a one sided competition. Dislikes Azul’s study guides, he wouldn’t be part of the spelldrive club but in the vs RSA i think he’d try out because he would ya know. (silmarillion made many bad decisions he’s an elf, had a lot of hot sons)

Maeglin, he would be in Ignihyde. Idia is scared of him, Ortho thought he was pretty normal and doesn’t mind him too much. he’s got some kind of shit going on for some reason he got moved to RSA and it went BAD for everyone involved it went TERRIBLE. and then he dropped out of school never to be heard from again. (also silmarillion has an evil sword that says evil stuff to him also an elf but his dad is like evil or something)

Jericho Barrons, I’m including him because I feel like he’d be a villain anyway and also he definitely should die at this point like this bitch should not be alive for many good reasons. He’d be in Svanaclaw like no question, used to be one of Leona’s former vice housewarden but challenged him and didn’t win. which is GREAT because I get to humiliate him everyday with his failure heheh. He helps jack but he does it in an asshole-ish kind of way even WORSE than Leona but Jack is just like THANKS MAN and it throws him off. He thinks Ruggie is an opportunistic floormat so they don’t get along but Ruggie doesn’t give a shit about him lmao. (he’s from the fever series by karen marie moning)

Zaknafein, Svanaclaw this guy packs punch but is very low key doesn’t mind Leona that much helps Jack out with training and shit gives him tips and then goes off to be alone. I love him very much but man I bet he’s tired of just women in general because they’re kind of the biggest reason he’s got a lot of issues so being in an all boys school helps. He’s kind of in it for himself probably joins some kind of self defense club where he’s ridiculously good at. (this is the father of Drizz’t Do’urden he dies in literally the first book its called the Legend of Drizzt by RA Salvatore) 

Runaan, also Svanaclaw vibes with Zak they don’t do much and they do as they’re told. Definitely takes a distanced mentor role to a lot of the freshmen. (he’s from the dragon prince)

Aaravos, Octanivelle, vibes well with azul kinda doesn’t like Diasomnia and takes issues with Sebek but he doesn’t show it. goes along well with Azul but azul definitely thinks SOMEthing is up with him. Jade and him get along on the surface but deep down its a passive aggressive war. Floyd doesn’t care about him. Runaan already dislikes Octanivelle because of Azul and his shenanigans with the tweels but Aaravos just makes it worse ya know. 

Kaz Brekker, Octanivelle absolutely he’s definitely gunning for that house warden position and he’s plotting. Jade is the only one who suspects his intentions but he keeps it in because he thinks this could be interesting. Azul thinks he’s okay and he’s very business smart aa good and reliable member of Octanivelle. He hates Floyd because Floyd always breaks his personaly space and triggers him and Floyd thinks its funny. Help kaz somebody-

Jesper Fahey, heartslabyul that’s his general vibe would get along well with Ace and Deuce, is pretty chill with Cater but he doesn’t always follow the rules so gets in trouble with Riddle a lot. He’s friends with Kaz and Inej they hang out together a lot and does as Kaz tells him to. 

Wylan Van Eck, was in Pomefiore moved to Heartslabyul, he is a mess fails the rules not on purpose so he gets a lot of flack for it from riddle. He’s definitely friends with ace and deuce and trey just kinda lets him hang about because he feels bad for Wylan. Wylan manages to join in the group through Jesper and does his best.

Inej Ghafa, I was going to just do guys but I dont want to break up the crows so I’m putting her and nina here. She’s in Octaniville with Kaz but she was in pomefiore and was miserable so she and wylan connect over that. Kaz helped her move into Octanivelle and she helps him out with his stuff like distracting Floyd and he decides to plague Kaz. She’s on good terms with Jade and Azul since she doesn’t do anything bad but she never works on the floor she’s always on the back of monstro lounge. Jade thinks its hilarious to watch Inej and Kaz because he can tell they like each other but they dont act on it.

Nina Zenik she’s in pomefiore and enjoying herself she just blends in there very well and is okay with Rook. Nina helps out Epel from time to time. Vil doesn’t take issue with her unless she specifically doesn’t listen to him. She and Matthias got into trouble together and they managed to get themselves out of it but she had to throw him under the bus to avoid an even worse outcome which Matthias hasn’t really forgiven her for. Azul almost convinced her to take a contract to help her with Matthias but Kaz managed to sneakily give her a better proposition and one that doesn’t involve sacrificing her unique magic so she takes him on his request.

Matthias Helvar, he’d be in Svanaclaw he would be in the spelldrive club. Leona is far too laidback for his liking, Ruggie is okay but he’s wondering how he gets on in Svanaclaw, jack is a friend he hangs out with time to time. He joins in with Kaz’s group of people who are trying to one up the octrio in secret because Kaz helped him out of the trouble with Nina although it takes him a really, really long time to forgive her and become sensible. im too emotional to put anything further in here i have not moved on.

I was going to put in my favorites from the IAD series but all of them would be in Svanaclaw so im not even going to bother lol except for Lothaire he’d be in Diasomnia and he wouldn’t give a shit about anyone.

What is the biggest change you've ever made to them? How have they changed from their original version?

For Martin Hightower:

Martin's definitely experienced the most change out of any OC. He was a side character at first and a lot darker villainous than he ended up being. He ESPECIALLY changed after I decided [INSERT BIG ASS SPOILER HERE]. Now the man has a fully fleshed out, heart-wrenching back story, plus a main part to play in the narrative. A small heart hidden inside roughly 30 inches of concrete...

How would they fit into other worlds / AUs? What AUs would you like to try out? What fictional world would they fit / not fit into?

For Martin and Eckehart:

HartMart is a literal treasure trove of AU material. Ask @valkyrie-the-bogwitch. We talk about it all the time.

We've already passed around the idea of a College/University AU and a Pugilist AU. I kind of want to create a visual novel game that's a Coffee Shop AU from Ehren's perspective, because the idea of Eckehart and Martin bickering over the price of a new espresso machine is just so wholesome to me.

For Rowan Faraday:

Rowan has some SERIOUS PTSD. She oscillates between freeze and fight (mostly fight) when she's triggered, and anyone seeing that side of her... it just feels humiliating to her. She portrays herself as a devil-may-care type-- a badass who's not afraid of anything-- and hey, most of the time it's true. When she starts having a flashback though, you'd better get her somewhere safe or get the fuck out of her way. A big part of her arc is finding her way through her trauma.
