foreman is my favorite fellow. he worked at the medical malpractice factory for YEARS and was newly scandalized every single time they did medical malpractice. he respects medical guidelines and if given the chance would follow them to the letter. he is not given the chance. he respects his patients and their rights and is a very good doctor. he does not care if gregory house lives or dies.

CLASSROOM THINGS, PART 1 / PART 2 / PART 3
- details ; brothers x gn! reader ; head-cannon based ; 〘🐙〙 obey me m.list ; they/them/you/yours
- summary; random things that'll happen with the brothers during class
- requests are open as of 20/8
- a/n ; writing shit because insomnia is kicking in , those whose match-ups aren't done yet hope you'll be patient there's quite a few to get done.
•❅────────✧❅✦❅✧────────❅•
LUCIFER
• lucifer is definitely the role model good student.
• he would probably be the one who wakes you up with a small knock on your desk if you fall asleep.
• but sometimes he would let you sleep, if the day was colder than normal he would bring his coat just for you to wear it. [ he makes sure you wear it ]
• probably would tutor you even during classes you know those times where the teacher would give you work to do and everyone would be silent.
• yeah during those times he'll glance over at you to check if you need any help. [ totally not because of how cute you look when you're concentrated or when you make a face to a question you don't understand. ]
• he wouldn't stare at you during class but will constantly check on you.
• if you pass notes to him lucifer wouldn't respond with full sentences, maybe just a short response and a reminder to focus on lessons.
• the kid that does extra work after doing the assignment.
• and he's obviously part of every type of committee.
• the teachers the students LOVE him so much any request from him its done immediately.
• he was well aware of this bias , but wouldn't usually make use of it however he would use it just this once by asking the teacher to place his seating next to you.
• to make sure you do your work not because he wants to be close to you or anything !
• he sits formally of course idk how else to describe it , he also usually has his arms crossed.
• everyone wants to pair with the hot daddy for any type of pair / group work but he only has eyes for you and no one dares to ask you to pair with them anyways with the first born glaring them down.
• if you both have separate classes he'll pick you up after your class and spend time with you during breaks , walking to you your next class too.
• helps you carry your books , open doors , push in your seat, refill your quill and pen inks and gives you hand written notes for your class.
• he keeps track of your schedule , i head-cannon that some days he gets to walk around the school and deal with some errands because he's the right hand man of the prince himself and all.
• so during those days he gets to skip his classes , he'll walk directly to the classroom you're at to check on you , then he'll go and check on his brothers next.
" full marks again , at this point its not surprising. “
"well mc , maybe if you stopped hanging out with mammon and studied you'd score higher. “
" that's kinda hot you know. "
" what is ? “
" you being so effortlessly smart , like damn what can you not do ? “
• he's blusinnn
•❅────────✧❅✦❅✧────────❅•
MAMMON
• the class clown.
• everyone but the teachers love him so much like he's so funny.
• he would be those that randomly makes a remark and the whole class would go from dead silent to shitting themselves with laughter.
• this man gets 0 homework done, but i head-cannon that he's really good at math because you know counting money and shit so he probably picked math up along the way.
• if you're good / bad at math or get like 0.1 marks lower than him he would go all like " out of my kindness the great mammon would ya out !"
• if you reject him he's going to go all pouty throughout the lesson and feeling like shit.[ please don't reject him he promises he'll be of use ! ]
• but if you're really upset or salty about him beating you without studying , next test he'll purposefully fail just to make you happy.
• if you're not the studious type , well the teacher is going to have a hard time with both of you.
• your classmates LOVE you both , y’all are the humble funny popular students that everyone wants to be friends with.
• your classmates find it so painful that mammon just can't confess for the life of him.
• they've hyped him up, gave him advice , even set him up with you by asking the teacher to place his seat right next to you !
• but this man just can't look you in the eye and pour his feelings out.
• you both pass a shit ton of notes to the point where mammon bought a notebook just to doodle and write some stuff and pass the book to you.
• if you both have different classes , he'd be so whiny about it and beg lucifer to transfer him to your class. [ although the whole reason why you're apart is because when you both are together its fucking world war 3. ]
• definitely shamelessly stares at you during class without knowing , if you point it out he goes red and starts stuttering.
• probably sits with a man spread , one leg up , arm resting across your back rest or his own.
classmate #1; "mc! look someone gave your favourite flowers, i wonder who its from ~ “
" they're so pretty but really who would randomly give flowers to me? i haven't even done anything. “
" oi human! who gave you those ? "
" i don't know. “
' w-well you don't have any idea w-who gave these?! "
"nope , if i do find them it's an immediate date on the spot. "
[ you know its mammon , he low key gets salty that you don't know its him but imagining both of you on a date and kissing him ? bros malfunctioning. ]

I loved your Sandor post it was such a cute headcanon,, do you have anymore of Sandor headcanons? (Or rlly any bodyguards)
Sophie has had night terrors since the day she came back from being kidnapped, she woke up screaming once a week.
the first few times Sandor after he woke her up he would go downstairs to get her parents to calm her down because he felt like it was their job not his
but after the fifth or sixth time Sophie begged him not to wake her parents because she didn’t want to worry them, he tried to convince her that it was oaky and they would want him to and failed.
knowing how much she hated anything that made her drowsy, he sat with her and taught her breathing exercises to help her calm down, and how to ground herself so she felt less out of control.
he made sure to do his job when she was attacked by the Neverseen when her abilities where reset he made sure to amp up her protection
he still helped her work though her nightmares, with the methods he was taught in school, but if he couldn’t calm her down he would get her parents
he mentioned that he did it because he felt like wasn’t able/allowed to comfort her in the way she needed and he didn’t want to cross any lines,
they where a story below her and couldn’t hear when she was having nightmares, he was closer and could comfort her in any way she needed
he still felt like he wasn’t allowed to do any more than that, as much as he wanted too he told himself that he was her bodyguard not her parent. he felt like it was against the rules of his job
but after he was thown off the mountain and Sophie tackle hugged him when he came back, he realized that he didn’t need to be so worried the rules that may or may not exist, he cared about her and he would protect her whether he was assigned to her or not.
that night she woke up from a night terror screaming his name, he came into the room and sat on the foot of her bed telling her, he was safe and so was she.
he walked her though the breathing exercises an she was refusing to even consider going back to sleep, because she had a nightmare about him getting killed and she didn’t want it to come back
so he asked her if she wanted to hear a story about when he was a kid to take her mind off of it, she nodded excitedly and grabbed Iggy and Ella off her pillow and sat right next to him
he told her that he was never very popular as a kid because he was the teachers pet, glasses and all he would remind them of homework and tests
but he had one friend who was the daughter of one of his parents friends, she was the school troublemaker and he was told to be a good influence on her
it’s not like he had any other options for friends, but much to their parents dismay she ended up influencing him and got him into trouble
he didn’t like getting into trouble, but he had a crush on her and wanted her to like him back, so he did whatever she said, and she knew this and took full advantage of it
she would call him Sir Goody Two Shoes among other things and drag him into her elaborate plans
she was incredibly competitive and would set up contests where the loser would owe the winner a favor, or do something embarrassing, she was a sour loser but always kept her end of the deal and so did he
even if it meant doing something that would definitely get them in trouble, once he lost a obstacle corse that she set up and the deal was that the loser had to dress up in a unicorn onsie and glitter bomb the principals office
so that’s what he did she gave him her unicorn onise, two dozen glitter bombs filled with the finest glitter, and the keys to the principals office. which she refused to tell how she got her hands on.
so he went into the office when principal was on lunch brake and set up the glitter bombs to go off when the principal entered the room what they hadn’t done is figure out when the principal would return
right as Sandor had finnished setting up the bombs, but he hadn’t had time to leave the room so when the principal opened the door glitter exploded over the two of them covering ever surface in the office in a layer of glitter.
he was given detention for the rest of the year, along with his friend because when he got into trouble she was always involved somehow
when Sandor finished telling the story he looked down at Sophie she was curled up with her head on his lap sound asleep
he smiled and pulled an extra blanket out from under her bed tucking her in, he was going to be here a while

HI!!!! maybe hc's for claggor and a energetic and wild gf(or s/o)? sweet man and little goblin vibes.
AAAAAAA THIS IS SO CUTE 🥺🥺🥺 I'M LITERALLY KICKING MY FEET IN THE AIR CACKLING AS I TYPE THESE 🥰🥰🥰 Buckle up cuz you're in for some tooth-rotting fluff involving Arcane's sweetest gigachad :,)
Notes: Fluff, Wholesomeness, Megan Thee Stallion
----------
Claggor x Energetic!Reader HCs
Not gonna lie, I can see Claggor pairing up very well with someone with more energy than he has
You two would balance each other, you introducing him to new experiences and lightening moods and him giving off a calm aura that feels like home ;-;
Your personality is definitely what attracted him to you when you guys met; You shared the same 7th period Forensics class, and he just so happened to be seated next to you (making you lab partners)
Teacher: Okay kids, the topic today is all about rigor mortis!
You: YAAAAYYYY!!!!
Claggor: *tries holding back his laughter*
He always looks forward to Forensics class every day because of you; If he's stressed from assignments and clubs or simply not having a good day, just spending time with you will immediately brighten him up
He's the type that watches you with a dreamlike smile as you're singing to Megan Thee Stallion on top of a cafeteria table
Classmate: Hey uh, who is that?
You: HANDS ON MY KNEES, SHAKIN ASS, ON MY THOT SHIT-
Claggor: My s/o (❀,,,UwU,,,)
Imagine you guys going to a street carnival: Him blushing happily while carrying you on his shoulders as you holler with joy at the loud, colorful fireworks show (He insisted he carry you so you could get a better look at the sky)
He'll supportively encourage you when you're trying to win carnival games and gives you kisses when you win; If you don't, remember that Claggor is a CHAD - He's a beast at these games and will win you that giant stuffed Totoro no matter what
If you excitedly tell him the Totoro plush reminds you of him his heart will M E L T
Claggor is probably the only person who can calm you down; Like let's say you have too much energy to sleep, and you're happily bouncing around until he catches you in a warm hug; You freeze, immediately going limp in his arms, and allow yourself to fall asleep this way if you can
He'll definitely stay up late having animated conversations with you on the phone about anything on your mind; Like he'll continue talking to you until he hears your voice getting groggy and you start yawning more often
If he hears you softly snoring on the other end, he'll whisper a quiet "I love you" before ending the call and leaving a text saying good night
If you spam him with memes or other things you think he'll find interesting, he'll take the time to go through all of them and leave a comment for each and every one
Even before you guys started dating, he'd always offer you to spend time with him at the library or at Vander's apartment for study dates
Sometimes, you'd be too hyper to sit still and focus on homework, usually getting distracted with something or a new thought that pops into your mind
Claggor doesn't mind this one bit, though he's worried about you getting in trouble with teachers or pulling all nighters if you don't finish your assignments (He gets sad whenever he sees you come in the next day looking tired with bags under your eyes)
He's the type who makes a deal to give you a forehead kiss with every question you get right until you've finished all your homework; Afterwards, it's cuddle time while watching shows on his computer
If you're the type to do shit like hitching a ride in the back of garbage trucks around the city, Claggor would be chasing after you down the street, telling you to get down from there while praying you don't get hurt (He's the one that's been literally keeping you alive this whole time)
Gives you hugs and holds your face in his hands as he checks if you're hurt once you leave the garbage truck :,)
One time you and the Vander Crew hijacked the school's golf cart and took it for a joy ride (Why? Cuz it was senior ditch day)
You were driving while Mylo and Vi were cheering you on; Claggor on the other hand was being all "Sweetie, sweetie, your left, watch out for the PIGEONS—"
After Vi took the wheel for multiple donuts in a parking lot, you had to comfort a nauseous Claggor throwing up in a nearby trashcan
All in all though, spending time with you is what makes his life so exciting, and he cherishes every fond memory no matter how many heart attacks you might give him :)

An imagine for adeuce please! They hang out someplace in their hometown during vacation but awkwardly run into crewel. I think treys family bakery would be a nice location but the setting is your choice in case you want to limit the dialogue and number of characters
Ps. I personally feel like the game needs more interactions between the students and teachers. Hopefully we can get more in the new event
Teacher-student interactions are so much fun! We definitely got more from Vargas Camp (which I’m really thankful for), and I hope we keep getting more!
So far, my favorite teacher-student dynamic has been Vargas and Azul. I’d feel bad for octoboi if I wasn’t laughing so hard at his flying fails--
I really liked this prompt, so I wrote more than my usual ~1000 word imagine; please enjoy!
***Mild spoilers for chapter 4!***
Imagine this...
Tumblr media
The Rose Kingdom was aptly named for the flowers that bloomed in nearly every corner of its land. In the summer time, they blossomed magnificently, perfuming the warm air with their heady aroma—but in the winter, those delicate rosebuds were banished by a spell of frost. Without fail, a great cold would wash over the region every year, casting their famous red flowers in a thick layer of white.
It was a pattern that the kingdom’s residents had long since grown accustomed to. This was, after all, their beloved home—amid the roses, frozen as they were.
“Oi, Deuce! Hurry it up, will you?!” Ace called, tossing an annoyed glance over his shoulder.
His friend—wearing so many layers that he resembled a moving blueberry more than a human—lagged several paces behind.
Deuce attempted to return the sass, but his words caught in the scarf bound tightly around his mouth, coming out muffled instead. The puffball on his winter hat furiously bobbed up and down, as though communicating his frustration for him.
“If we don’t pick up the pace, they’re gonna sell out of hot chocolate and fresh pastries!” Ace rushed back, grabbed Deuce by the arm, and tugged. “C’mon!! I thought you were in Track and Field Club or something—so let’s get moving!”
Deuce loosened his scarf with his free hand and, glaring at Ace, declared, “No way am I running with the roads this icy. That’s a recipe for disaster.”
“Hah? You serious? I already got wasted enough time waiting for you to dress in your 101 layers of coats,” Ace grumped, gesturing to Deuce’s ridiculous outfit. “It can’t hurt to be a little quicker about it.”
“Mom wanted me to stay warm,” Deuce countered stiffly. “I’m gonna respect that, no matter what.”
Ace rolled his eyes and waves dismissively. “Yeah, yeah, whatever—enough talk, we really gotta get going...!! I’ll be damned if I freeze out here.”
“The Clover Bakery isn’t that far from here, so we don’t need to rush.” Deuce indicated a warm building at the end of the block, which gave off delicious fumes—spun sugar, baked bread, and spices. “Slow and steady wins the race.”
Ace groaned loudly. At this rate, it would take all day for them to waddle on over. He was about to bury his head in his hands when an idea dawned on him.
A mean, but clever, idea.
“Betcha I could make it there faster than you,” Ace chirped, his voice casual.
“It’s not a competition,” Deuce reminded him sternly.
“No one said it was, dummy! I’m just saying I could definitely beat you at your own game.”
“Tough words for someone shaking like a leaf in the cold.”
“Oh yeah?” Ace’s grin was wicked. “Prove me wrong, then.”
“I don’’t have to prove anything. It’d be dangerous to run in this weather, anyway.”
“I bet it’s way more snowy in Pyroxene—and Jack’s probably totally fine with running through it!”
“That’s Jack, and this is me. I said I wasn’t going to rush things, and I meant it.”
“Yeah? Too bad~” The redhead gave an exaggerated sigh and a shrug. “Backing out, huh...? Oh well. Guess if you snooze, you lose...!!”
“Hey, I never said...” Deuce’s voice trailed off, for Ace had shoved by him, darting off in the direction of the bakery. “H-Hey...!! Ace...!! ACE!! GET BACK HERE!!”
He tore after his friend, shouting at him all the while—and Ace, with his (cheating) head start, only laughed in return. Deuce soon caught up (no thanks to his club conditioning), and they were neck-and-neck for first place.
Windchill, knives upon their faces. The biting cold seeped into their lungs, making it hurt to breathe as they hurtled toward their destination. Yet they sailed on, determined to outdo the other.
Both boys launched themselves at the bakery entrance, grasping the handle at the same time.
“EXCUSE US!!” Ace and Deuce yelled in unison, yanking open the door (struggling to cram through the doorway at the same time) and stumbling in.
They were greeted by a blast of warmth and the smells of sweet cakes and toasted breads. The employee manning the counter glanced up, startled at the duo’s sudden appearance. When he saw who it was that had barged in, he sighed and calmly readjusted his glasses.
He looked a little different than usual, wearing a white shirt with green plaid that showed off his broad shoulders. The sleeves were rolled up to reveal thick forearms forged from years of lifting flour sacks and kneading dough. A brown apron was slung over his attire, four-leafed clovers sewn on the pockets.
“If it isn’t Ace and Deuce. How are the two troublemakers of Heartslabyul doing?” Trey asked, his smile lopsided as his underclassmen approached.
“A-Are we really troublemakers in your eyes, Clover-senpai?!”
“I’m just kidding,” he reassured Deuce. “Well, you are troublemakers, but more for Riddle than for me.”
“Geez... thanks for the vote of confidence...” Ace grumbled, casting the third year a cheeky look. “Some senpai you are, huh?”
“Now, now... I’m allowed to have some fun, aren’t I? We’re all ‘off-duty’, so to speak.” Trey said light heartedly. “Anyway, what brings you guys to the Clover Bakery? I’m assuming you’re not dropping by just to say hello.”
“Hehe. Obviously we’re hungry, so we came by for some grub!” Ace held up his index finger. “One large hot chocolate, and a plate of assorted butter cookies for me!”
“I’m okay with a small spiced apple cider,” Deuce chimed in, “please and thank you.”
“Gotcha. I’ll get you your drinks in a bit,” Trey nodded, “but as for the butter cookies, I’m afraid I won’t be able to sell those to you.”
“Huh?” Ace’s face collapsed. “Why not?”
“We’ve only got a few dozen left, and they’re reserved for a client that preordered them. Sorry.” Trey pointed to a neatly wrapped box already set upon the counter, done up in a bright green bow.
Through the plastic window in the box, Ace could see that the cookies had been converted into little sandwiches. Each pair housed a generous dollop of cream, caramelized raisins threaded throughout it.
“What? Who needs that many butter cookies? And why are there gross raisins in them--“
The door to the bakery flung open, summoning a gale of cold once more. A bell suspended above jingled, ringing in a new customer.
“Ah, speak of deville the devil,” Trey said—while his underclassmen balked in terror.
There, in the doorway, was a tall man in black faux leather gloves and a voluminous fur coat—striped, black and white. Beneath that, he boasted a crimson turtle neck and a blazer, half solid white, the other half a black , checkerboard pattern. This, paired with his slicked back hair, steely eyes, and regal face, made him appear as though he had just strutted off the runway, were it not for the leashes he gripped.
Two Dalmatians—one in a blue coat, the other in a red one—stood alert by his feet. They caught Ace and Deuce’s eyes and barked in greeting, but the two boys were far too fixated on the Dalmatians’ owner to gush over dogs.
“Crewel...”
“... Sensei?”
Ace and Deuce glanced to one another, then back at their Alchemy teacher.
“C-CREWEL-SENSEI?!”
“Wh-What’re you doing here?!” Ace demanded, pointing an accusatory finger. “School’s out for winter break...!! You... You didn’t hunt us down to make us do our homework, did you?!”
Crewel snorted. “Spare me your theatrics, Trappola. Your instructors are granted a vacation for the duration of winter break as well. Were you not aware?”
“I-I knew that! I just didn’t know you lived in the Rose Kingdom, too!”
“I thought teachers lived at school...”
“... Seriously, Deuce?!”
“The more you know.” Crewel narrowed his eyes at Ace. “But speaking of homework, I trust you pups are keeping on top of your assignments? Being on break is no excuse to slack on your studies.”
“D-Duh! Of course I haven’t been slacking!” A lie, Ace grimaced, thinking to the piles of homework he had abandoned in his bedroom in favor of hanging out with friends. Whatever, he could just pester his brother for help later. “Right, Deuce? Back me up here!”
“I’ve been diligently studying and working on my homework bit by bit every day, Crewel-sensei!”
“... But have you done it accurately?” Crewel asked, raising an eyebrow. “Simply writing down an answer does not guarantee full marks, Spade.”
“... Errrrrr, okay, maybe I need to work on it a little more.”
“You’ve got your notes and a reliable Science Club member to count on for assistance,” Crewel quipped, gesturing to Trey with a gloved hand. “There is no excuse for why you should not do well. That goes for you as well, Trappola.”
“Y-Yessir!”
“Crewel-sensei, I think that’s enough interrogation,” Trey called, waving for him to come to the counter. Outwardly, he wore a smile, but inwardly, he sighed. For the love of the Great Seven, don’t offer my help for me. “Here, I have your order prepared--oh, but be sure to keep your dogs at the doorway. No pets allowed beyond a certain threshold for health and safety reasons.”
“I am aware, yes.” Crewel’s eyes passed over to the two scared stiff underclassmen. “... Trappola, Spade--come here. Do your professor a favor and tend to my Dalmatians for me.”
“What? You want us to watch your dogs?”
“I’ll do my best, Sensei!!”
“Don’t just blindly agree to it, Deuce!”
“It will only be for a moment,” Crewel insisted, shoving his leashes into Ace and Deuce’s hands. The boys fumbled, but held firm--the Dalmatians eagerly staring up at them.
“... Oi, don’t give me those looks,” Ace grumbled. “You’re... You’re too cute looking and innocent to be Crewel-sensei’s pets.”
The dog in the red coat gave a happy bark, as if pleased with the compliment. Its partner, in the blue coat, panted with delight as Deuce gave it a firm head pat.
Crewel received the box of raisin butter cookies--but allowed his eyes to quickly a scan the glass display case as he strode up. “Do you have dog treats in stock as well?”
“We do.”
“Then add two to my total, please--peanut butter flavor.”
“Alright, you’ve got it.” Trey ducked, retrieved a pair of tongs, and fished out two bone-shaped biscuits. He dropped them into a paper bag and handed them over to his teacher. “That’ll be--”
He was cut off by several bills being fanned out on the counter.
“I’ve ordered enough from your bakery to know the general prices,” Crewel smirked, tucking his wallet away into his massive fur coat. “If there is a discrepancy, you may keep the change.”
“Ah, thanks for that. Hope you and the dogs enjoy--” Trey paused, cut off this time by the sound of several small footsteps from the back room of the bakery. He groaned, already knowing what was coming. “Oh no...”
“Trey-nii!!” A chorus of high-pitched voices piped up, startling Ace and Deuce. “We heard bark-barks!! Did Mr. Fluffy Coat bring back his doggies?”
Three heads of green hair poked above the counter--just barely. One girl and two boys, probably elementary school age, all of them sharing Trey’s mustard yellow eyes.
“Guys, not now. Big bro’s busy with the customers,” Trey warned. He passed an apologetic look to his underclassmen and teacher. “Sorry, my siblings are excitable sometimes.”
“I wanna pet the doggies!”
“I wanna feed’m snackies!”
“I wanna dress them up!”
To the boys’ surprise, Crewel merely chuckled. “No worries. Fellow canine lovers are always welcome.”
“Mr. Fluffy Coat!! Can we feed your doggies?”
“Pretty please with candied violets on top!”
“Please, please, please!!”
Crewel barked with laughter. “Perhaps I can allow it, little ones--permitted that your brother grants his permission.”
All three Clover siblings looked expectantly at their eldest sibling.
Trey heaved a sigh. “... I guess I’ve got no choice. Go ahead.”
Excited squeals filled the interior of the bakery. The Clover siblings nearly tripped over themselves racing over to Crewel’s dogs (they nearly trampled Ace and Deuce’s feet, too).
“Hey, watch it! We’re the ones babysitting these dogs, not you!” Ace cried as the kids descended on the Dalmatians. I’ve only had these dogs for five minutes but if anything happened to them, I’d kill everyone here and then--
“We can share, Ace!”
“Spade is correct. There is plenty of the pups to go around,” Crewel interjected. He produced two dog treats and broke them into smaller pieces, offering them to Ace, Deuce, and the Clover siblings. “Go on, then. One for each of you to feed them.”
The Clovers cheered and eagerly claimed their pieces, holding them out and allowing each Dalmatian to sniff and lick the treats straight out of their palms. As soon as the food was slurped up, the Clovers proceeded to vigorously pet the pups. But the first years hesitated.
“You’re... being awfully nice,” Ace noted, eying him suspiciously. “Are you gonna spring a pop quiz on us as soon as I take the treat?”
“Keep biting the hand that feeds you, and I just might consider it,” Crewel warned with a dark smirk.
“W-We’ll take the treats!” Deuce snatched up two pieces, shoving one into Ace’s hands. “Come on, let’s not worry too much. We’re on winter break, after all. Let’s just relax while we still can.”
“You’re right, you’re right! Let’s not sweat it!”
They exchanged a brief laugh before kneeling and offering up their own dog treat pieces to the Dalmatians. Just as the dogs’ sloppy, wet tongues connected with the boys’ hands, their cell phones went off.
“... Huh? Did you just get a text, Deuce?”
“I think I did. I heard your phone ping too, though. Did you get a text too?”
“I can check. One sec...” With his free hand, Ace fished his phone out of his coat pocket and consulted it. He immediately paled. “Oh, shit.”
(“Hey, language!” Trey shouted--but his protest seemingly went ignored.)
“What’s wrong?” Deuce asked, frowning.
“Check your phone. Check it right now.”
“Is it something seri...” Deuce’s face dropped as soon as he looked at his messages. “Fuck.”
(“I said, language!” Trey tried again, only to be snubbed a second time.)
The distressing text they had received?
SOS SEND HE LP STRAND ED D IN SCAR ABIA CANT GET OUT - Yuu, Grim
Ace and Deuce abruptly stood and bolted toward the exit, much to everyone’s surprise. They paid no mind to the concerned shouts of Trey, nor Crewel, or to the excited barks of Dalmatians no longer held by leashes.
All that remained of where the duo once stood were soggy, half-finished peanut butter dog treats.

classmate!sunghoon
Tumblr media
pairing: classmate!sunghoon x female reader
genre: fluff, comedy
description: you felt like park sunghoon was way, WAY out of your league... what happens when the teacher tells him to move seats and sit next to you?
*didnt proofread
————
becoming friends with park sunghoon was not something you expected to happen this year
throughout high school you had a small group of friends and never really stuck out
so when your teacher told sunghoon to move seats..
the seat happened to be the empty one next to..
guess who *cue the evil laugh*
YOU!!!!
your first thought was
‘this entire year is just gonna be him completely ignoring my existence or awkward interactions’
now you’ve heard of park sunghoon.... its basically a guarantee at your high school
he has this group of friends and theyre labelled as the popular kids i guess you could say
and the only reason he had to move seats in your two hour long class was because he and his friend jake goof off in class too often and your teacher deemed them “too distracting”
so eventually sunghoon was forced to move all the way across the classroom
right next to you
you were shocked to say the least
obviously he was handsome
too handsome to the point where you questioned how someone as good looking as him went to your school
he sighed and got up from his chair next to jake
but he still had a small smile remaining on his face indicating he wasnt that upset about him having to leave his friend
your heart began to beat quicker automatically as he walked towards your desk
even if you didnt have a crush on him like alot of people did, you still felt nervous around popular students like him for some reason
he ran his hand through his hair and sat down next to you, setting his bookbag on the floor next to him
he didnt look at you, nor acknowledge you
Awkward....
but nonetheless the lecture began again and the class sat in silence
taking notes on their laptops or sleeping
there were around 30 people in your class and your seat was in the middle row next to the window so you often gazed outside from the 2nd floor during class
you glanced to your right and noticed sunghoon slouched back in his seat, twirling around a pencil in his hand while his laptop remained open on his desk
it was just a white screen so he didnt take any notes
you were surpised because you knew he had fairly decent grades
you ignored your thoughts and continued taking your own notes
soon enough the bell rang and sunghoon stood up immediately and walked over to jake
‘yup’ you thought. ‘we are definitely not going to be having a single conversation this year.’
fast forward a couple days!!!!
you were sitting in class next to the boy
as normal
and you still have yet to talk to him.. mainly because you never initiated conversations ESPECIALLY when its a really really cute boy
anyways
ur teacher is like
Ok class im assigning a project and ur partner is the person sitting next to u
yay!!!!!! (can u sense the sarcasm)
welp
you sit in silence while everyone in the class starts discussing with their partners
the project is you have to make a presentation on a world issue of your choice
“um...” u start
sunghoon starts pulling out his laptop and binder
“what do you wanna do?”
he doesnt even look you
well!!!!!!
u didnt know sunghoon and his group of friends very well but u definitely thought they were more... friendly than this
its silent for like 5 seconds
“huh? oh sorry did you say something?”
“uh yeah.. i asked what you wanted to do for the project.”
“project?”
God u tried so hard not to laugh
you think he noticed because his cheeks turned a really light shade of pink
he looked so innocent
“yeah we have to make a presentation” you lightly chuckled
he was very amusing without even trying
“oh sorry haha.. i zone out easily”
“its okay.. but its due in less than 2 weeks so”
so you two spent the next hour choosing a topic and working on the project
it was kind of awkward for the first 10 minutes but then you warmed up to eachother
u were lucky that he was an extrovert too
(sunghoon is an extrovert for the sake of this story OK)
u were also lucky that he was smart
it was easy for you to talk to him.. he just felt comfortable
contrary to ur prior belief.. sunghoon was actually a really really cool guy
u used to think he was just a guy
now u think hes a really really cool guy
“can you please stop putting penguin clip art on the slides” you giggle
then he puts parrot clip art instead
“do your work!!!!” he was supposed to keep researching but he was trying to balance his pen on his nose
“shhh y/n... im doing something important.”
you roll your eyes
he was always doing something that was Not work
but you found it entertaining
and he’d make dumb little jokes that made you both hide your faces in your arms on top of the desk to hide your laughter
“hey y/n”
“what”
“what do you call an old snowman”
“i dunno.. snowgramps”
“no.. water”
you both made eye contact before bursting into laughter and then forcing yourselves to be quiet before u got in trouble
but that made everything funnier so you both were just covering your faces while trying so hard not to make a sound
this was so weird
u have never clicked with someone so fast before it honestly felt exciting
you were talking to sunghoon as if you’d been friends with him since birth
Very Very weird because you had only talked to him an hour ago and now u two are acting like besties ?!?!
jake noticed from across the room too
hes like ‘Why is sunghoon having fun without me🙄🙄’
the bell rings and so far you only have 2 slides
“we didnt get anything done” you note as you pack your bag
“yeah yeah i know. we can work on it more tomorrow”
“right.. see you tomorrow” you’re about to head out until jake walks up
“hey bro” he and sunghoon do some kind of made up handshake before he turns to look at you
now you know jake
everyone knows jake
you used to think he was the sweetest out of all their friend group
and he definitely lives up to that!!!
“hey y/n!” he gives u a smile
AWE hes so adorable
“hi” u reply
you were trying to speed up this conversation though so you could go eat lunch with your friend
“hows the project going?” he asks
“bad. sunghoon doesnt know how to do anything.” you deadpanned jokingly
sunghoon looks at you with an offended look that makes you wanna snort
“hey! you’re the one who doesn’t know how to add text to the slide!”
“what the hell sunghoon?! don’t tell him that, it’s embarrassing!” you give him a dirty look before walking out the classroom door with a smile on your face
days passed and you and sunghoon would only speak during that class but whenever you did it would be a mess
“sunghoon, y/n, quiet down! there is no reason for my classroom to be this loud!” your teacher scolds you two after sunghoon slapped his desk after you accidentally snorted
u two had such a weird relationship
u were almost strangers outside this one class but besties when u were in it
jake noticed too
one time he asked sunghoon during lunch why ur relationship was what it was
“i dont know.. thats just how we are” he answered
but jake kind of suspected sunghoon had a crush on u
*wiggles eyebrows*
it had only been a week but jake was determined to set u up together
“y/n you look cold, heres sunghoons jacket!”
“y/n sunghoon needs help with his homework, can you maybe do something about that..”
“sunghoon, y/n looks sad go give her a hug”
needless to say it worked!!!!
because a week after you presented your 2 weeks worth project
sunghoon asked u on a date
YUPPPPPP
let me recite how it went
u were walking out of class together because jake wasnt there that day
sunghoons bookbag was slung over one shoulder and u were stood next to him with both hands on ur straps
“hey.. do u wanna maybe go grab something to eat with me for dinner..? or something” he quickly asked
“what, like a date?” you joke
“uh.. yeah” he replied looking down at u
u stop in your tracks
WHA
No way
“wait what? seriously?” you look up at him with wide eyes
“yes u little munchkin” he pinches your cheeks exaggeratedly and pulls them to make your face sway everywhere
u swat them off so fast
“um.. okay” u answer and ur face heats up
you cant even look him in the eye
like u cant say u DIDNT see this coming but it was still a shock
“awe is y/n blushing” he teases
“go away stupid”
yeah he doesnt go away
ANYWAYS u are the cutest couple ever
everyone wants to be u two so bad!
couple goals literally
jake is so proud of himself honestly
whenever u get into a silly little argument his rebuttal is always
“remind me who got u the best boyfriend ever? thats right, me. dont try me y/n”
and ur like
“ooohhh jakey im so scareddd”
he cannot stand u
but Yeah sunghoon bestest bf ever
takes u on dates whenever u want to
makes u laugh very much
almost too much
and ur parents LOVE him
mhm sunghoon very awesome guy

Headcanon Post - Genshin characters helping you with your homework/study buddies.
- Modern AU -
Characters involved: Kaeya, Childe, Ei, Lumine
Genre: Fluff
⊱ ━━━━.⋅ εïз ⋅.━━━━ ⊰
Kaeya
Bold of you to assume he does his homework. Though, somehow, you never catch him with ANY homework. The one time you caught him doing his homework was a half sheet of paper that was basically already done for him. Even so, he's managed to maintain a high grade.
The first time you asked him to help you with your homework, he stared at you the whole time. Just imagine you asking him meanwhile he just stares at you with a smirk. Although that awkward situation, he agreed and helped you.
DEFINITELY took you back to his house. Smug piece of shit (Just kidding, I love him). You found like a bunch of sheets of paper from his past teachers sitting in the corner of his room and laughed your ass off.
During your little homework help session, he didn't have anything to do. Every time you glanced at the dude, he would just be watching you scribble down answers on your homework or scrolling through his phone on who knows what.
If you asked questions, you could hear the sound of his phone turning off as he shuffles next to you to read over your homework. Strands of his hair would dangle down to your figure and rest on your shoulder or back but you didn't seem to mind. He would help you accordingly and you managed to get a good grade for it, woo-hoo.
༻✧༺
Childe
He was slightly more advanced classes than you so you decided to ask him to help you. Though he struggles with his more complicated homework, he finds yours to be much more easier. Brings him back to when he was a regular student.
When you asked him to help, he quickly agreed and practically dragged you to a bench out in the park downtown. Bro was desperate to get a hold on what he used to do for homework. You were surprised he was still being kept in those advanced classes.
While you took care of the questions on your homework that you could easily do on your own, he did his homework that was assigned to him. You could see him space out every so often whenever he came across a question he didn't understand. If you laughed, expect Childe to come back to his senses and stare at you in confusion.
The second whenever you would try and ask a question, he would grab your paper automatically and skim through it to see what you were having trouble on. Can't even finish your sentence, smh. He explained it pretty quickly and gently gave the paper back to you.
༻✧༺
Ei
Hot third year alert. You saw her go out to the library every afternoon to finish her studies on her assignments. Sometimes you would also go to the library and she would come in a few minutes after, settling down on a table close to yours.
She was known to have good grades and so you asked her to help with your homework. She politely agreed and told you to meet up at the library's door after school.
Homework was slightly difficult for her but she manages through it, always coming back with full credits on her assignment. It does take her a bit longer to process some questions but answers anyways once she fully understands the problem.
She provided a brief explanation and answer to any question you had. You could see her twirl her hair as she read a problem on your homework paper in the corner of your eye. If the two of you ever found yourself talking too loud, she would quickly catch on and remind you and herself to be quiet. You are in the library afterall.
༻✧༺
Lumine
Surprisingly, she found you first! She asked if you needed help with your homework when it was on your mind. You could see her rushing through the hallway over to you while her bag held onto her shoulder for dear life.
You happily agreed to let her help you and suddenly, it didn't feel so awkward. You guys chose an empty classroom that was left unlocked. You were quite unsure of what her grades were like but she reassured you that you would get fine grades.
Turns out, she didn't always get full points on her homework. The lowest she's ever got on her grades was probably near a 70 but it didn't damage her grade too severely. Still, she was the only option you had and decided to let her help you anyways.
She stumbled on her words quite a bit whenever she answered one of your questions or explained something. Boy was she quick with her words. You had to ask her to backtrack a few times on her sentences since she talked so fast. She would awkwardly laugh and repeat her sentence.

You enjoyed being a professor a lot more than you thought. The majority of the students were extremely kind and listened to you. Getting to see your friends all the time was definitely a bonus. Things were finally normal. Remus was enjoying returning to teaching just as much as you did. Everyone said that he was a fun teacher, which made you proud.
The past two months as the Transfiguration professor had gone by quickly. By the end of the day you and Remus were both worn out and busy grading tests. You made sure that on the weekends you and Remus both relaxed and spent time together. It wasn't hard because Minerva let you stay in the same living quarters. The only time you really got upset with a student was a few weeks into the school year.
A fifth year Slytherin that you hadn't known previously decided to insult Remus during your class. You were sitting at your desk grading papers while you let the students get started on their homework. Joseph Adams was always chatty. Even when you looked up from your work to signal to him to be quiet he would keep talking. You understood that kids liked to talk. You were barely out of your teenage years yourself.
This particular day the topic he was discussing was other teachers. His desk was in the front row so you could hear everything he said if you listened close enough. He got through a whole list of reasons why Slughorn wasn't as good as Snape before moving on to talk about Remus.
"Lupin's the worst of all. He treats us like we're five or something. And why is he even a teacher? He left a few years ago because he's a werewolf. They just let him come back like nothing happened," he scoffed. That had gotten your attention. You didn't look up but listened closely as he dropped his voice to speak to his deskmate. "And the thing that's really weird is this, Professor Y/L/N is dating him! Yep, I saw them kissing in Lupin's room after class was over. Really low of her if I'm being honest. He's about 40 if I had to guess."
You narrowed your eyes and looked up. Joseph had his head close to his partner's and glanced at you. "Thank you Mr. Adams for updating William on my personal life. If you would please mind your own business it would be much appreciated. And I would like you to know that Professor Lupin is a wonderful man and teacher. I'm sure many of your peers would agree."
"So it's true then? You and the dog are together?" he asked.
"Excuse me?" you asked, appalled at his rudeness. Did he not hear what you said just a moment ago? And who does he think he is calling Remus a dog?
"Well Mrs. Y/L/N? Are you dating or not?" He asked the question with an air of arrogance that reminded you of Draco Malfoy. Joseph even had the audacity to smirk when he finished talking.
"That is none of your business. And since you have enough time on your hands to poke your nose into others' private lives, then you can spend this Saturday in detention." That made a few of the students around him snicker but he just scowled and went back to his work, muttering something under his breath.
You and Remus weren't exactly trying to keep your relationship a secret but it wasn't like everyone in the castle knew. You tried to keep the affection to a minimum when around students. It wasn't his knowledge of your status that bothered you either. How could he say such things about Remus, the kindest man you know?
Joseph thankfully decided to stay silent for the rest of the class, and left in a rush when you dismissed them. A couple of the fifth years gave you a smile and wave as they left. At least a few students were glad to have you.
That was your last class for the day so you went back to your room, stopping by Remus's classroom to find him starting another lesson with a group of seventh years. He smiled at you when you passed, which made you feel better about the scene that Adams caused.
That was the only incident that happened in the first two months during your position as professor and you were pleased at how smoothly it was going.
There was another thing that you found out about Remus in those two months. He enjoyed sex with you immensely. Depending on how he was feeling the sex would differ. After a long day he liked to do slowly, relieving himself of stress with every thrust. You also made a joint decision for you to take birth control for the moment. You both agreed it was too soon for kids but one day you wanted them.
The first time it happened you were both equally as pent up. It was 1 in the morning and you two were grading parchment. He finished a bit before you and kissed your neck lazily as he stood behind you. You were sitting in a leather chair, leaning over your desk. You were so concentrated on work you didn't hear Remus come up behind you. You jumped slightly when his lips made contact with your neck.
"Remus..." you hummed.
"Are you almost finished darling?" His tired voice was right beside your head, tickling your ear with his breath.
"Yes, almost. It won't get done any quicker with you teasing me though."
"It's more fun this way," he chuckled. His lips moved from your neck up to your ear, which he bit lightly. You rushed through the last papers, trying to finish as soon as possible. Hopefully those kids wouldn't mind that you skimmed over their assignment. What you did read was decent so you gave them a decent grade.
Remus must have noticed your change of pace because he let out an amused breath. You set down your quill and swiveled your chair around. You stood and wrapped your arms around his neck. You kissed him deeply as he moved around to sit in the place you had just left vacant. You crawled into his lap, straddling him.
He took your robe and shirt off, leaving you in a bra and pants. As he frequently did, he peppered kisses along the length of your shoulders, sucking at some spots. Even if he left a mark it would be covered up with your clothes.
He set his hands on your butt and lifted you up. He set you down on the hard desk and reached behind you to unclasp the only thing keeping your chest covered. Once it was off, Remus took your boobs in his hands, kneading and massaging them. You let out a small moan, pleasured by his hands on such a sensitive area. He slid his hands down your sides and pulled your trousers and panties down and into the floor.
He got on his knees and put his head between your legs. You sucked in some air, preparing for his tongue to enter your vagina. He pushed it in and swirled it around, causing you to let out multiple lewd noises as he worked up your arousal. Your hands tangled in his hair and you pushed his head slightly, making him let out a groan that vibrated through you. Just that could push you over the edge but he stopped.
He shed himself of clothing and lined his hard cock up with your entrance. He slowly inserted it, stretching your walls as he did so. Once you had gotten used to the feeling he started to move back and forth. He always began slowly and picked up the pace as he went. Your back was fully against the desk now and your hands were on Remus's, which were holding onto your hips.
He let out groans as he pounded into you, letting the stress roll of himself with every thrust. You too also felt the stress leave your body, all worries gone while your mind focused on Remus and your approaching orgasm.
Just after a few more thrusts you reached your ecstasy, cum spilling out onto Remus's dick. The sight of your pleasure on his cock made Remus pound harder than ever before. You thought you were going to break as your nails dug into his back. It didn't take much longer for him to release. His cum filled your vagina, some dripping out as he slowed his thrusts and pulled out.
He cleaned you both before you made your way to bed, wrapped up in his arms.

Hello, can I please suggest a childhood friends to lovers troupe with Banri? Thank you so much!
of course! i put this off at first because i wanted to understand banri’s character a bit more and what direction i wanted to go with this! it might be a little bit opposite of what you wanted but i hope you like it~ ♡ i hope you don’t mind childhood enemies to friends to lovers ;)
summary: all your life, you wanted to beat settsu banri, just once
warnings: arguing, breaking the law, bullying(?), injuries, physical fights,
author’s note: this is definitely much more different from anything i’ve written! please enjoy it~
being naturally good at everything = wanting to compete at everything once’s there’s someone worthy and i think it’s a complex we need to address. honors students who get burnt out often give up because it’s not easy at first. setting children up to be the best and putting them against one another instead of encouraging teamwork is evil and a flaw in the education system. so take risks, and take down any institution that disrespects you :)
word count: 4,298
music: hot girl bummer – blackbear, preacher man – the driver era
childhood champion.
🍁🥇 settsu banri
banri was the most insufferable, annoying kid to ever walk the face of this earth
everyone picked him first for their sports team in gym, he always knew the answer even when the teacher caught him sleeping in class, and he knew what a multitalented threat he was
it was so unfair! even as a child, you had to spend countless hours studying the next topic to stay ahead but banri did it without even trying
you were second in class, he never even wavered or was worried about his valedictorian position
banri was so, so annoying
you two were the first picked to advance to honors–level classes the next school year in middle school
you actively rose your hand in class to get the answer correct. you sat in the front and kissed up to your teachers so they would submit more than just “a pleasure to have in class” on your report card
banri would doze off in the back if he was forced to attend school. it would take multiple tries to get him to wake up and even then, he could’ve summarized the entire class lesson with no effort. he didn’t care about other people’s opinions
which must have been nice, considering how everyone either loved him or fully hated him
you two were never aware of each other’s existence throughout elementary; it wasn’t until your teachers constantly compared you to banri’s perfect grades and banri to your model student behavior that you began to despise each other
to you, banri was your #1 rival and competitor. everything you did, you wanted to beat him at. but to banri, you were just another tryhard that wouldn’t survive in the real world
it was when you were the only student getting every question right that you talked to him for the first time. you rose your hand again, a pleasant expression on your face as your teacher looked around, sighing as everyone averted their gaze
before the teacher could call your name, you felt a wadded–up paper ball hit the back of your head and a snicker. the class went dealthy quiet for once
you whipped your head to the back to see banri’s egotistical maniac of a smirk staring right back at you
“nerd.” banri dropped, his arms behind his head and feet propped up on his desk. his bag wasn’t even open and his pencil was stuck behind his ear. what a troublemaker
“mr. settsu! apologize this instant, we do not tolerate name–calling in this classroom.” your teacher reprimanded maturely, watching as banri shrugged and put his feet on the ground with a loud thud. leaning forward, banri put his hands together with an exaggerated sad face as he batted his eyelashes
“i’m so sorry~” banri laughed, his mocking tone making you narrow your eyes, plastering on a fake smile as you simply nodded and turned around. it wasn’t worth it to fight with someone who didn’t even care
anger boiled in your blood, all you wanted to do was turn around and give him a solid punch
yet, you straightened your posture, answering each question precisely with a tight grip on your pencil as you felt more spitballs land near you
no boy was going to get you to stop focusing, and especially take class time away
banri didn’t know why he bothered trying to piss you off anymore when you didn’t react. it was boring him, to say the least
when he “accidentally” stole your lunch, you just used your allowance to buy something from the lunch ladies (who absolutely hated that they had no evidence he stole from the fruit bar). when he knocked your books over off the desk with a bang, you just picked them back up and moved to a different table. hell, he even started a grade–wide game that pretended you weren’t there. you didn’t care, you kept doing your schoolwork
you were so, so boring
banri was on cleaning–duty for vandalism or whatever, something that didn’t follow the school guidelines. he was assigned to his homeroom classroom and had to wipe down the desks, sweep the room, and scrape off gum under any surface
“what the hell...” 13–year–old banri cursed, kicking at the dust pan as he didn’t want to start. he didn’t clean, he was good at it, he just didn’t like doing it
turning on his heel to ditch the classroom and deal with the consequences later, he was face to face with the fakest smile ever as you leaned against the doorframe (seemingly satisfied with his predicament)
“sorry, settsu. i’m here to supervise you to make sure you’re cleaning, today.” you dropped your sweet, quiet tone and revealed the truth: a tough, tired attitude that was ready to snap at any point. banri raised his eyebrow, crossing his arms as he scoffed, looking to the side
this should be fun
“oh yeah? what will you do to stop me? can you even handle me, i’ve seen how you don’t score shit in gym.” banri spat, your lip twitched at the swear as you had an incredulous look
two could play at this game, you weren’t backing down
“i’m not here to fight, settsu. i want you to hurry up so i can go home and do my homework.” you heard his sickening laugh throughout the empty hallway. it echoed, reminding you how he had no filter or manners whatsoever
“homework?! imagine needing that to pass. even i don’t do my work... and i’m at the top. how sad.” banri fueled the flame on purpose, eyes glinting with something of boredom and a wicked evil found in prepubescent boys
“you wouldn’t know what that’s like, though, right?”
you clenched your fist, all the pent–up rage you withheld in to have the higher ground was beginning to turn your vision red
“come on,” banri grinned, finding fun in driving you insane as he lazily moved into a fighting position, not expecting anything. “hit me—”
you didn’t remember what happened next, but you had to sit next to banri who had a black eye with an ice pack up to it in the principal’s office
both you and banri received a weeks worth of suspension for having a fight on school grounds
you hated settsu banri. and he found you interesting, so he didn’t say anything when he came back, letting the rumors die down
banri wanted to be your friend. your punch wasn’t even all that bad, maybe he could teach you how to hold your fist
but you avoided him at all costs now. he started going to school more frequently, and played impractical jokes on you in between classes just to get a reaction
you didn’t do anything. you just requested a schedule change and had classes on the opposite side of the building
classes became boring again, no one wanted to fight with him because they knew they’d lose, and he stopped attending classes out of spite
banri couldn’t believe he may have finally met someone who had some balls to do something to his shitty attitude and you just left
but throughout the years leading up to his first year in hanasaki, banri had immense respect for your 12–year–old self who landed a nasty hit (it totally would’ve k.o.–ed him if this was a video game)
banri had his eye out to see if you were in the front row with your hand up, or if you were hiding in the library behind towering shelves, or if you were even just moving past him in the crowds of people in the hallways
but it’s like you disappeared out of no where, how boring
you kept a secluded, mysterious reputation. no one had anything to say about you because you did nothing to get attention. so banri couldn’t even track you down through the grapevine of gossip
you disappeared and remained second (behind banri, of course)
as school went on and the summers cleared his mind, banri slowly forgot all about the young kid who gave him a black eye
as he passed the exams to qualify for entry in hanasaki, he didn’t even think twice if you were gonna be there
second year at hanasaki academy. 16–year–old banri nearly dropped out because of his own insatiable boredom. he got into more fights (he always won), ignored his classmates, and just kept being a huge jackass even unprovoked
school was so, so boring
class rankings were released after finals, banri remembered strolling up to expect his name at the top spot but watched as the crowd of students nervously parted to let him through
his eyes automatically landed at the #1 spot (he never checked anyone below him, they were dumb) but it wasn’t his name. instead, he saw yours. you were beating him
letting out a sarcastic laugh, banri backed up and left without another word, leaving the students to breathe a sigh of relief they weren’t the next victim of an infamous settsu roundhouse
how long had you been at this? how long did you study just to see your name printed over his? he must’ve been a big deal to you
banri ditched school early, about to hop the back fence before he noticed a flash of the academy’s school uniform above. halfway up the fence, banri looked behind him. no one. looked up, and you were sitting at the edge of the rooftop, swinging your legs casually
after all these years, and banri found you on accident
“hey.” banri drawled, waving up to you who seemed lost in your own world. you had a loose grip on some textbook, staring off into the slow clouds. you must’ve missed the lunch bell signaling the end of eating. you? skipping class? it was almost too funny to be true
banri bristled under the lack of attention. it’s been years and this was the response he got? he was ready to start shaking the fence to alert everyone within a one mile radius he was here. yet, banri noticed the hardcover textbook that must’ve cost hundreds begin slipping from your fingers. you didn’t care to notice
“hey! hey! what the fuck!” banri tried to make you snap out of it, but he swore as he leaped from the fence as soon as the book started falling. you shook your head rapidly like you just woke up, nearly falling over as you watched banri catch the heavy textbook with one hand as he rolled onto the rough pavement. it was a move out of a superhero film, like he was a professional stunt double
you gasped, scrambling to get off the edge and jumped. banri was about to yell a very inappropiate curse, but you grabbed onto the tree branch nearby and climbed down easily. it was like you did this countless times... what the hell happened to you and who was this that replaced you?
“oh my god! i am so sorry, i wasn’t paying attention at all.” you apologized sincerly, offering your hand to help pull him to his feet. banri ignored the pain in his shoulder and hip as he pushed himself up, the scrapes on his palms and rips in his uniforms making him wince for a moment. you noticed
“you idiot! what were you thinking? you could’ve died!” banri snapped, pushing the textbook to your chest as you stumbled back, eyes wide. you huffed, feeling aggressive as every instinct to fight with him came back as strong as ever despite banri’s heroic act
“don’t act like you know everything about me! i said i was sorry, what else do you want?” you fought back, pushing him back even harder with your book. banri felt something burn inside him for the time ever since you punched him: excitement
“let’s settle this. you. me. right here. right now.” banri got into a battle stance, pretending to be very serious when he didn’t even hit girls. but, he wanted to piss you off so bad. he was so bored of his life being on super ultra easy mode (it was like you were the final boss)
he didn’t even get another word out before you sighed, put your backpack and books down gently, rolled your eyes, spun around, and kicked him straight in the jaw
you had used the infamous settsu roundhouse kick against him
this time, he was much stronger than he was before at thirteen. he straightened himself up, stared at your clenched fists, and laughed
“after all this time, you never learned how to throw a real punch?” banri taunted, but the playful tone of his voice gave himself away. you slowly backed down, going back to your normal position as you revealed a tired smile. you ran your hand through your hair, seeming to contemplate on whether or not you should respond before shrugging
“never really had to fight losers like you before.” you retorted and banri gave an impressed look that you even made a comeback. rubbing his jaw and feeling the bruise about to form, banri watched as you stuffed your books into your bag
“by the way, that was for everything you put me through in middle school.” you stood up, flipped him both with hands confidently, and left. turning the corner, you winked and shot him a finger gun, showing you didn’t hold any grudges anymore for his stupid behavior
“wait—dammit.” banri rushed to catch up with you, but you were already gone the moment he went over. there was no trace of you and banri kicked the wall out of frustration, regretting it immediately when he forgot about his injured leg
“mr. settsu!” he heard from one of the classroom windows and looked up, seeing his maths teacher glare at him. uh oh
banri put his hands up, knowing security would have to come drag his ass to class
he could’ve swore he heard your laugh as he got yelled at for getting caught, making him subconsciously smile
(banri got into more trouble when the teacher thought he saw it as a joke)
gossip was exchanged as banri came into class sporting a bruised jaw and ripped clothes. they said the gangster was finally taken down by someone who he was no match for, it was almost laughable
i let them win, banri thought, barely paying attention to whatever his teacher was writing on the blackboard
but banri wanted more competition. he couldn’t just let you hit him even if he fully, 100% deserved it
banri closed his eyes, falling asleep with his hand in his cheek. you better not have any plans this afternoon
it was 5pm. you were heading out of school after finishing all your extracurricular duties. it was exhausting pretending to care, faking a smile just so your superiors thought you were the perfect leader. whatever gets you into university, right?
you needed a break. you stepped up to the rooftop after sneaking into the locked stairway. oddly enough, it was already open. you tip–toed in on guard, preparing to hit someone with your bag before you noticed a shadow against the pavement
but as soon as you stepped out, banri was waiting
it was nearly sunset, and banri was playing some game on his phone against one of the benches against the border
you paused, not sure what to say before he casually looked up and did a double take, rushing to pocket his phone and standing up
silence. like you two had nothing to say after all these years. you didn’t expect to see him again, you stopped caring about his laziness and focused on yourself even if you didn’t have the motivation anymore
banri awkwardly put his hands in his pockets, the blazer elbows almost torn to shreds. a strand of his hair fell in front of his face, you wanted to reach out and push it back
here you were, with a perfect appearance with nothing out of place, as expected of a model student. your uniform was ironed to perfection and had no creases despite your tree jump. you learned how to get rid of the evidence
when nothing seemed to be happening, you almost turned around before banri spoke way too loudly
“i’m sorry.” banri choked out, like he was saying it against his will. you froze, not wanting to turn around as you gripped the strap of your backpack. was he being serious?
“i’m... sorry for basically picking on you in middle school. it was dumb of me, i was stupid.” banri explained, appearing cool but his fingers were clearly fidgeting in his pockets. oh, he was serious
a part of your child self felt like it was healed, knowing you had one over settsu banri. you nodded, turning slowly to face your childhood rival. your childhood competitor. the childhood champion of everything
this time, you were the winner, but it didn’t feel like it
“yeah? i’m sorry for beating your ass twice then.” you joked, seeing the tension leave his shoulders as he naturally laughed. it was almost therapeutic to finally not fight for something for once
“truce?” banri put his fist out, and you didn’t even have to think about it before moving forward and fist–bumping him
“truce.”
you and banri became close after your so–called peace treaty. you put all the rivalry behind you, you forgave him
banri surprisingly understood you had a “perfect reputation” to uphold despite all the secret trouble you got in. in public, he stayed away and pretended like you didn’t exist. in private, you two snuck onto the rooftop to have lunch and stay until night, talking about nothing and everything at once
you even tried getting him back on track, using the temptation of competition to trick him in doing his work (it at least worked half the time)
(“i definitely could finish this faster than you!” banri protested, scribbling his answers and he always finished first. he never realized what you were doing when he was in the heat of the moment)
banri had never stayed at school this long, his attendance was making a come back and he was even looking forward to times he could see you in between classes
(he never put this much effort in, he didn’t want to find out he wasn’t naturally good at being your friend)
everything was good. you two were compatiable friends who cursed every middle school teacher who set them up to be enemies. you swore at teachers who now abused their position of power and laughed about leading a revolution. you two were young, dumb teens who wanted change. you wanted anarchy, he knew enough about it to get behind it
banri texted you screenshots of his elite gaming status in the game he recommended to you, getting a response the next day proving you were almost at his level. damn. he could respect that
banri took you to his favorite local arcade, (believe it or not) after you claimed you could at least tie him at something. when he saw you get frustrated, he pretended to stumble on the arrow pad for DDR and feigned annoyance as you beat him for once. he even gave you his spare coins once he got bored and watched you, adding unnecessary commentary you’d kick him for
(“not again!” banri pretended to cower, protecting his jaw that was already healed)
you guys would even raid 24/7 stores after leaving school, stocking up on snacks and energy drinks so you could stay awake throughout the day after game night
but his favorite thing to do with you was sneaking out and returning you back before curfew. banri was naturally a homebody that didn’t find the outside fun, but when you confessed you never had a late night drive before, he arrived a block away and nearly gave you a heart attack when he knocked on your window
(you two agreed to have a special code and banri would knock to the beat of your favorite game’s theme song)
that night, you sat on the hood of his car and watched the stars, unaware of how banri couldn’t tear his eyes away from you
when banri dropped you off and helped you back in with his hand at your back, he nearly fell off the tree as you made your way onto your second–floor bedroom
you smiled, a strangeness to your windswept hair and messy clothes. you didn’t care what you looked like around him
banri gulped, forcing himself down the tree as he ran to his car, heart racing a mile a minute
what the hell was that? banri took a deep breath in the driver’s seat, rubbing his forehead as he groaned. why did he feel like this? did you do something to his soda or something?
as banri drove home, he flipped on the radio. teenage dirtbag by wheatus blasted on the inner roads
“how does she know who i am? why does she give a damn about me?”
banri braked, the car halting in the middle of the road. it was 3am, the street lights gave way to the empty, deserted road
oh my god. he liked you
he liked the person who gave him a black eye, got him a week suspension, kicked him in the jaw, and got him caught by his teacher
teenage dirtbag faded out on the street as banri sat there, listening to the lyrics
“fuck.” banri deadpanned, knowing things wouldn’t be good if he kept acting up like this
well, everything was good, until that night
banri arrived at midnight sharp like always. you rolled out of bed with full clothing ready for any night activity he planned
he took your hand to go down even though he knew damn well you didn’t need the help. sneaking out was like second nature at this point, it was a miracle you two hadn’t been busted yet
you two were stealthy, avoided all the cameras your parents put in place after noticing there were footsteps imprinted on the grass (it didn’t bother banri, he liked the challenge)
speeding off, banri slowed down to the speed limit once he saw you push the roof down and stick your upper body out into the wind. he shook his head, lowering the windows as well. he heard you scream along to whatever pop song was on at the top of your lungs
in that moment, you forget you were hanasaki academy’s perfect model student. you were just a person having the time of their life with their best friend
pulling into an abandoned parking lot, banri stopped in the middle as he tugged your shirt down. his wolfish grin seemed electric, like he was high on a predictable adrenaline rush already
“hey, do you trust me?” banri revved the engine, one hand on the wheel and the other out as a fist
it felt like that day back on the school rooftop where you made a truce with your middle school rival. like everything was about to change
without a second thought, you bumped your fist to his. “i do.”
banri shifted to level one as he turned the wheels to a full direction. you held onto the edge of the door as you realized what he was about to do
“you’re joking!” you yelled over the sound of the engine, banri flashing you a quick wink before the car started spinning. he was doing donuts because you said you wanted donuts the other day, this was not what you meant!
“you knew i didn’t mean it like this, you jerk!” you protested, but couldn’t help but laugh along with banri as smoke rose from the tire tracks on the concrete. you felt dizzy, but you never felt more alive laughing with your best friend in the middle of the night
banri suddenly stopped, his foot on the brake as a distant shout made you freeze
“hey, who’s trespassing?!”
“go, go, go!” you yelled, pushing banri’s arm as his foot triggered the gas and changed the speed. you guys zoomed out of the supposedly “abandoned” parking lot, hearing the random owner attempt to chase after you before tripping on his own feet
“holy shit!” you exclaimed, not feeling sorry you were laughing at the man who was now shaking his fist at you. you knew it was too dark to even see banri’s license plate, you were fine. you felt your energy peak as you couldn’t help but turn around with a wide smile
“did you see that guy’s face, he looked like he was ready to kill—” you started but banri braked again, both hands tightly gripping the wheel. you almost lurched forward but banri stuck his arm out against your chest, holding you to your seat as he glared at you
“how is this funny to you? we... you! you almost got caught! your future would’ve been ruined, do you understand how severe that situation was?!” banri ranted, sweating as he had to practice controlled breathing to prevent himself from saying something he’d regret. he was so worried, he never cared this much
“so what at this point? what’s there to even live for after college?” you scoffed, crossing your arms as you looked away. banri’s arm started retracting, but he randomly grabbed your face and pulled you over the divider, looking you deeply in the eyes like he never wanted to let you go. like he wanted to remember this forever
“me. live for me.” banri muttered, before he closed the distance between you two. your childhood rival, competitor, and enemy liked you
high on adrenaline, you kissed back. you were on top of the world
and suddenly, everything was good again
you both won

A/N: This takes places in the semi-near future. For today’s prompt: Kensi or Deeks as a teacher. This fic represents what happens when my mind runs wild with an idea.
***
“Hey, can I call you back in about an hour and a half?” Deeks asked as he jogged down a flight of stairs to the third floor. “I have office hours starting in a few minutes.”
“Sure. Good luck with the gremlins,” Kensi answered. He rolled his eyes, nodding to a passing professor.
“Kens, they’re in they’re 20’s. You have to stop calling my students things like gremlins and children.”
He walked into the small office where he spent his time when he wasn’t teaching Contract Law to thirty or so L1 students. He dropped his bag by the desk, and slipped his jacket off, rolling his sleeves up a few times so he wouldn’t end up getting ink or chalk on the fabric. His dry cleaning bills had definitely increased since he started wearing dress shirts and ties again.
A little less than a year before, when he’d be aimlessly looking for a job, one of his former classmates had suggested teaching until he found something more permanent. Deeks had balked at the idea initially, but eventually given when it became clear that he needed to work and his other options were unavailable.
He’d never anticipated how much he would enjoy it. Now he taught three classes throughout the week at Loyola Law school as an adjunct professor. It was strangely satisfying to have a hand in teaching the next batch of lawyers.
“All I’m saying is that they look a lot younger that I did at that age.” Deeks snorted at Kensi’s completely inaccurate observation as he wrote a few notes on the blackboard that took up most of the back wall.
“You were just a baby when I met you,” he teased.
“Yet you still married me,” Kensi pointed out.
“Ooh, touché.” He heard a noise behind him and glanced over his shoulder. “Oops, gotta go. See you at dinner.” Deeks hung up, turning around completely to face one of his students, Mallory Baten.
She was lingering in the doorway and if Deeks didn’t know better, he would have thought she was hesitating. But that didn’t align with the young woman he knew. Mallory was one of the most outspoken and confident students in the class. She also had a biting sense of humor that Deeks found hilarious.
“Hey Mallory, what can I do for you?” he asked, gesturing for her to take a seat. Again she hesitated a little before pulling up one of the metal chairs situated opposite his desk.
“I had a few questions about Monday’s lecture, Mr. Deeks,” she said, pulling out a thick, color coded binder. The sight of it always reminded him of his own college experience and made him slightly nauseous. He did not miss the stress of studying and exams.
Deeks dragged his chair over with his foot and sat down with his forearms braced against the back, waiting for her to continue.
Brushing her light blond hair back from her neck, Mallory flipped to a page from the last class notes. Deeks instantly recognized her small, neat handwriting covering the majority of the paper.
“So, I was rereading the section on unjust enrichment and I wondered if you could clarify the concept. The text book had some examples, but I thought it was a little lacking,” she said, pointing to her notes.
Deeks tilted his head, quickly scanned her notes and nodded. It was a fairly simple concept, but Mallory tended to be exceedingly thorough. She was one of five or six students who regularly attended his office hours.
“Ok, so unjust enrichment essentially says that if I provide you with a service or product, I deserve compensation. Even if you end a contract early or have an issue with how I provided the service, you still need to provide compensation for those services or produces you received,” he explained.
“Even if the services or products weren’t satisfactory?” she asked, writing something in the corner of the page.
“Well, that would fall under a different part of contract law and would be considered a breach of contract. Assuming there was a legitimate contract to begin with. Does that answer your question?”
“Yes, it does, Mr. Deeks.”
“Awesome, I’ll see you on Wednesday,” Deeks said, grabbing a stack of homework assignments that needed grading from the end of his desk while Mallory packed up her binder.
“Actually, I have one more question,” Mallory said. He glanced up, mildly surprised to find her standing over her desk. “Do you want to have dinner with me tonight?”
Deeks froze, sure he’d heard her wrong.
“Do I-what are you asking me?”
“I’m asking you to go out to dinner. On a date.” Her cheeks were a little flushed, but her gaze didn’t waver.
“You know, I’m married, right?” he asked a little desperately. He saw Mallory’s eyes flick to his ring and then back to his face, and she nodded.
“I know.”
“And I’m your teacher.”
“You’re also really hot,” she said bluntly and he felt his cheeks fill with heat. “Plus you’re funny, caring, and my god, your muscles are incredible. Sometimes I come to office hours just to watch the you move.”
Mallory seemed past the point of embarrassment, but he wished a hole would open up in the floor. Or he could throw himself out a window. Unfortunately, his office didn’t have one so he’d have to actually face this. It didn’t help that Mallory was now openly checking him out.
Suppressing a groan, he turned in a half circle, pinching the bridge of his nose as tried to figure out what to say. The continuing ed classes he’d taken hadn’t prepared him for this possibility at all.
“Mart-Mr. Deeks, are you ok?” He almost laughed at the question.
He turned back around to face Mallory again, balancing a on hand on his hip. She looked a little more uncertain again and was watching him avidly.
“Well, this is, uh, wow.” He cleared his throat noisily and tried again. “While this is incredibly, um, flattering, I think we both know that nothing is going to happen between us. For a multitude of reasons,” he said as gently as he could.
“We could still just go out for dinner,” she suggested hopefully. “As friends.”
“No, we can’t,” Deeks said firmly. “Now we should go talk to the dean about getting you transferred to another class section for the remainder of the semester.”
***
“Hey baby,” Kensi greeted him at home later that day, punctuating it with a kiss. “How was work?”
“An unmitigated disaster,” he sighed. He dropped his bag by the door, and flopped onto the couch. Kensi sat next to him and grabbed his hand with a look of concern.
“What happened? Everything seemed fine when I talked to you earlier today.” Deeks groaned, silently reliving the last few hours.
“One of my students hit on me today.” If he’d expected Kensi to react with outrage, he was about to be disappointed. She visibly relaxed beside him, smacking his arm with the back of her hand.
“Why didn’t you lead with that? You had me really worried,” she said, shaking her head at his apparent lack of consideration.
“The fact that a 23 year old asked me out to dinner doesn’t bother you at all?” Deeks asked. Kensi shrugged.
“I figured it was only a matter of time.” Deeks gave her a look and she rolled her eyes at him. “For someone who claims to be a reformed lady’s man, you are ridiculously oblivious when someone is flirting with you. Half the women in your class have a crush on you.”
“No they don’t.” Kensi actually laughed at his protest, patting his arm with false sympathy.
“Uh, yeah they do, babe. Every time I’ve visited you at work, there are no less than three students staring at you at any time. Sometimes even a couple teachers,” she said, clearly enjoying this more than she had any right to.
“Ugh, now I’m going to be thinking about these kids checking me out during class,” he groaned. “This sucks.”
“You’re not even a little bit flattered?” she asked with mild surprised. He shrugged. Maybe he would have been at one time, but now it just seemed weird and a little creepy.
“I might be if I wasn’t old enough to be their father.” Kensi squinted at him and he clarified, “If I had them really young.”
“I’m sure they don’t think of you in a fatherly way.” Deeks made a face at that and gave a full-body shudder.
“Well, thanks for that horrible thought,” he said dryly. “And here I just thought they all loved my teaching.”
“Well, I’m sure they appreciate that too.” Kensi smirked at him as he pouted, running her fingers through his hair. “It’s all your own fault, you know.”
“How is this my fault? I didn’t ask for any of this.”
“You can’t walk around all day in tight shirts and pants with your sleeves rolled up and not expect to get noticed,” she said, leaning in and gliding her nose across his jaw. She inhaled deeply. “You look good enough to eat.” As she spoke, her hand drifted up his bare forearm to cup his bicep. It was a fairly innocent touch, but he still felt a shiver work its way up his spine.
“Is that an offer?” he asked, thoughts of Mallory quickly leaving his mind. Kensi walked her fingers up his arm and across his chest, pausing at his collar. She fiddled with the button on his collar and then slowly tugged his tie free.
“It’s a promise,” she said, the husky note in her voice incredibly sexy. Deeks settled his hands on her hips as she rose up on her knees and straddled his thighs. Smiling down at him, she brushed her hair back, the glossy strands dancing around her shoulder, and slipped the top button free on his shirt. Then she looked up, her expression playful, and added, “For later.”
“That’s cruel,” he complained. “Especially when I’ve had such a terrible day. It was mortifying.”
“So how much did you freak out when she asked you out?” she asked slyly.
“I handled it with all the finesse and professionalism that you would expect from a former criminal defendant, detective, and federal liaison,” Deeks said with mock solemnity and Kensi raised an eyebrow at him.
“Really?” Her voice was filled with disbelief.
“Yeah, no, I kept hoping a freak tornado or earthquake would come along and put me out of my misery.”
“So, I don’t have to worry about you running off with any promising young law students?” Deeks rolled his eyes at Kensi’s question. He thought she was mostly joking, but just in case, he cupped her jaw between his palms, cradling the back of her head and firmly kissed her. She made a noise of surprise in the back of her throat that quickly turned to satisfaction.
“Never. They’ll just have to find another incredibly attractive, middle aged teacher to chase after.” He kissed her again. When they pulled back, Kensi was smirking at him as she fiddled with his collar.
“You’re an idiot, but I love you anyway,” she said, pulling him back down to her.

Black Swan (1)
Summary: Y/N used to be a Russian spy under the code name Black Swan. But that was a lifetime ago, now she’s a part-time avenger, dance teacher, surrogate sister to Natasha Romanoff, and trainer to new Shield Agents. She’s come a long way from the days of killing targets and being tortured. But when someone from her past comes around will she be able to ignore her history anymore? Or will she end up falling in love with the only man her sister ever loved?
Warnings: None for this chapter
A/N: Here we go againn! This is a edited form of the story I had posted last year. Taglist is open, send an ask
Tumblr media
“Bucky is going to be staying here,” Steve says at breakfast that morning. In the same nonchalant tone, he used to say “I’m going on a run’. Not the type of tone to use when announcing a dangerous assassin would be your roommate. You knew what he did wasn’t his fault, out of anyone, you understood this. But he killed without blinking, and his brain is scrambled like an egg. This didn’t make the most stable man, and it definitely didn’t make him safe to be around.
“Steve, is that really a good idea?” Natasha says before you could form the exact same question.
Natalia was your sister, you’ve known her your whole life. You’re not blood-related but related through things much stronger. The two of you were widows. A KGB experiment that stole girls and trained them to be merciless spies. They took your life away and killed anyone too weak to handle the stress. Natalia and you were the only known survivors. She took on the mantle of Black Widow upon graduation, and you took the mantle, Black Swan.
“They took out the programming, he’s not the Winter Soldier anymore,” Steve combats with. “He needs help, and I need to be the one to give it.” He turns and leaves the room after this statement, leaving you and Natasha with no room to debate this fact.
“This is not going to end well” you mumble under your breath, and Nat nods in agreement. Nothing about this screamed ‘good idea’. But then again, they did take in your sister and you.
After breakfast, you head to the gym with Nat for morning workouts. It was never a crazy exercise, just enough to start the day. You head towards the treadmill, and she speaks first.
“I remember him.” She admits softly. You knew the conversation was coming, but like hell did you want to avoid it. “Do you?” The ‘training’ you went through involved wiping, so there were spots in your memory that may never be filled. But James wasn’t one of those.
“Yeah, and I remember how you would talk nonstop about him,” you say teasingly. She throws her towel at you and the two of you break into giggles. A sound most people never dream of hearing from the two of you.
“I was naive then! We were kids,” she says. Kids that never should have gone through what they did.
“I never liked him,” you declare bluntly taking the goofy tone from the room. She exhales loudly.
“I know сестренка (sis). What time is it, don’t you have class today?” She says effectively changing the topic. A trademark of hers.
“It’s at 11, I have two hours and the building is 10 minutes away,” you tell her, even though she knows this information.
“I still don’t get why you teach all those испорченные дети (spoiled children)” she says.
“It’s my way of paying back to the society I guess. I might as well use my dancing skills for good for once.” She nods and you both continue running for a little while longer.
You arrive at the studio 15 minutes before class, which is more than enough to set up the barres and find the right CD for the lesson. The girls slowly start trickling in. It was your senior class so the girls are all teenagers. It’s Saturday which means the girls are here all day long. They stretched, ran through barre work, ate lunch, and then learned their choreography the rest of the time. They were part of a competition team, and put their all into dance. It was always refreshing to see such passion and reinvigorated your love for the sport. It may have lead you down a path that took everything, but it still held your heart.
“Alright girls, take off your street clothes. Barres mean leotards and tights only!” You say in an authoritative teacher voice and they all hurriedly shuffle to their assigned spots. You hit the music count “5,6,7,8-” and they begin their pliés.
Two hours later the class ends and the girls go to their lunch break in a flurry of laughs and gossip. You put the barres back against the wall and join the other teachers for lunch. You’ve been with the studio for close to 5 years now. At first, they were wary of hiring an ex KGB spy, part-time avenger. But there were few people as trained as you, and when word got out that you were teaching, tons of girls signed up for a class with ‘The Black Swan’. Luckily the novelty of your celebrity status wore off with the girls and they stopped asking a hundred questions about the avengers and your past. (They were still obsessed with Natalia though.)
Lunch passes and you’re joined in the room by the girls of your large group. It was the beginning of the season and you had just announced they would be dancing to “Cosmic Love” by Florence and the Machine. They were still giddy with excitement and constantly heard “Miss Y/N Look!” by excited girls showing new ways they could turn or fold in half. The dance would start with three of the girls extending their leg above their head and holding it. You told them the previous week that this week whoever could hold it longest would get to do it in the dance. The girls all got ready before you count down and let them bring their legs up. You hear them all egging each other on and it reminds you of when you were younger before the program.
All but three girls eventually drop their legs and you have to practically shout over their excited squeals. The rest of the time goes by quickly and you have the first part choreographed and the girls seem to have it memorized. You give them all homework to work on their turns and bid them goodbye for the day. Before you can leave two of the girls come up and ask you to choreograph their solos and you agree before shooing them to their parents.
You head back to your apartment in the compound upstate and shower. Your floor consisted of bedrooms for the Nat and you and a shared area in between. There were few people you could tolerate early in the morning and Nat was about the extent of it. You head to the common area upstairs, where everyone gathered.
“The old man give any more information on when he’s bringing him here?” You ask Nat in your native tongue. She’s stretching and watching television.
“Steve left today. Said they’ll be back Monday,” she replies from the straddle she’s sitting in on the floor. “How was the class?”
“Good, started choreographing the large group today. They’re all super excited and want better spots in the dance so they’re trying their best right now.” You smile thinking about the girls all trying to see how long they can hold their tilts. “Two of them asked me to do their solos for them, so I’m a little excited too,” You answer.
“Sometimes a part of me misses the tutus and tights. Then I remember what came with them.” She says in a wistful voice.
“You should come to class with me sometime if you want. I promise they’re not that vile,” you say. “Plus, they’ve been dying to meet you. It’s nothing like our lessons.”
She smiles and says “Maybe.” You join in her stretching and watch the show with her.
Later on, Bruce finds the pair of you chatting while sitting in splits.
“You do know that the body was not designed to bend that way?” he asks.
“It also wasn’t meant to turn big and green. But here we are.” Tasha quipped back. Bruce pointed as if he was going to refute that, but lowered his hand in defeat instead.
“You hear about the new addition? You ask.
“Bucky? Yeah, I never met him,” he says, “But at this point what’s another messed up person who could kill everyone!” He laughs.
“How much do you think he’ll remember?” Nat asks.
“Hard to say. Guess we’ll find out in time.” You and Natasha share a look but go back to talking with Bruce and hope for the best going forward.

I Like Me Better When I’m With You
Rating: Teen
Relationship: Janus/Patton, Moceit
Summary: Janus Dean did not mean to start dating Patton Hart for political gain, and he definitely did not mean to fall in love with him.
(Or the fake dating high school AU that nobody asked for but everyone needed.)
Based on this prompt by the incredible @kawaiikat54
Warnings: cursing, homophobia(nothing violent)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everybody loves Patton Hart. He’s one of those rare popular kids who got their popularity by being a great person. Patton knows everyone’s first and last name and he’s in almost every club. He’s every teacher’s favorite student and every girl’s crush. He never curses and is nice to everyone. He’ll help you with your homework and listen to your problems. He gives hugs like it's nothing. Patton Hart thinks life is a fairy tale.
Jason Dean absolutely despises Patton Hart. Everything in Patton’s life is perfect and everything he can get everything he’s ever wanted just by showing up. Janus has to fight for what he wants every step of the way. Janus is not trusted easily like Patton. Janus has a resting bitch face, whereas Patton’s face naturally falls into a smile. Janus is the night of Patton's day.
For most of high school, Janus has been fine ignoring Patton. They never got in each other’s way, and Janus and his friend Ethan bonded over laughing at him. Janus stayed in his lane and Patton stayed in his that’s our it’s always been.
Today everything changed. Today Patton Hart entered the race for student body president. Janus has spent the past month campaigning and building up goodwill, but it’s all pointless. Voters will take one look at the name Patton Hart and check the box next to his name. Patton doesn’t even have to captain. Just like always, Patton wins just by showing up.
It’s infuriating, and it means that Janus will have to fight dirty.
When the bell for lunch rings, Janus exits through the backdoor of the courtyard. It’s empty like it always is.
Across the courtyard, his friend Ethan is leaning against the hard brick wall with a cigarette in one hand, and a flask in the other.
“‘Sup Janus.”
“Hello, Ethan, did you hear the news?”
“That Hart’s running for president? Yeah.”
“What do you think we should do about it?”
“Probably something he wouldn’t like,” Ethan says, and Janus laughs.
“What did you have in mind? Stage a scandal? Hack his email? Push him down a flight of stairs?” Janus was pretty partial to the last one.
“Fun, but no. To win this race you’re going to have to go big or go home.”
That doesn’t sound good, especially coming from Ethan.
“What do you mean, go big or go home?”
“You need to pretend to date Patton Hart.”
Janus laughed, “Absolutely not.”
Ethan growled at him, “Did I fucking stutter Dean?”
Janus glared at him, “Did I? I’m not doing that.”
Ethan did not back down, “Take a second to think about it before you get all your feather ruffled. If you pretend to date Patton, you will get everything. You will find out what’s under his everything is a perfect persona. You’ll have a confession that he’s gay. If you do it you’re practically guaranteed to win the race.”
Janus pauses, “You have a point. I’ll think about it. You happy?”
“Ecstatic.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s been a week and Janus has thought of a way to talk to Patton, let alone ask him out. Hell, despite what Ethan says, he doesn’t even know if Patton is gay, bi, or pan at all.
Despite the fact that if he is in fact, not straight, Patton is closeted, Ethan has been texting him more and more every day, and at this point, Janus might just flat out ask Patton out just to get him to shut up.
As if on cue, Janus’ phone buzzes with a text. He doesnt have to check who it is. He groans and shuts his phone off. History class is about to begin anyways.
In the time that he’s read the text and dumped his phone into his bag, Patton Hart has somehow managed to sneak up on him.
“Everything ok?” Patton asks, and there’s genuine concern in his voice. It drives Janus crazy. Through his glasses, Janus can see the concern and care in his big brown eyes, and it’s so powerful that he almost has to take a step back.
Janus looks away from Patton, “Of course it is, why wouldn’t it be?”
Patton just shrugs, “You just seemed stressed.”
“Oh well, thank you for your concern but I have everything under control,” Janus says, and why is it so hard for him to talk to Patton. Each word sounds awkward and unsure and it’s a complete 180 from the smooth and suave tone he usually uses.
Before the conversation can get any more awkward, the bell rings.
“Glad to hear it,” Patton says.
Janus just nodded and walked inside the classroom.
Within the next few minutes, kids start filing in and sitting in their usual spots. Patton is sitting in the front predictably and Janus is watching him from the third row.
Once all the students have filed into the dilapidated classroom their teacher, Mr. Rivers walks up to the front of the class.
“All right everybody!” He says. “So today I thought we could switch things up a bit, and instead of me teaching you something like we normally do, you could teach your classmates and me something?”
The class stares at him blankly, but Mr. Rivers doesn’t seem to notice their lack of a reaction.
“So I decided that you all, with the help of a partner, will present on a series of influential people throughout history who all share one trait in common. It’s opened ended, so the thing all your people have in common can be creative! Hopefully y’all can have fun with this! Today you are going to have all of this class period to talk with your partner and get started, the project will be due next week. Any questions?”
Only one girl raises her hand, and Mr. Rivers calls on her enthusiastically, “Can we choose our Partners?” She says.
“Nope! I’m going to be picking partners for you all, it’s great to work with new people.” He replies cheerfully.
A low groan rumbles through the classroom, but Mr. Rivers doesn’t comment on it.
“Alright so first up is Will Solace and Nico De Angelo.”
The teacher keeps on listening names until finally Janus’ name was called,
“...and finally we have Patton Hart and Janus Hart.”
Well, that was one way to get the plan going. At least he’d have something to report to Ethan.
Janus was not ready when Patton came bounding towards his Desk, with brown curls bouncing in time with his steps.
Janus was pretty sure he could stare at Patton and still not have counted every one of his freckles, the kid had so many.
“Hey, Janus!” Patton was at his desk.
“Hi, Patton.”
“So what do you wanna do? I know a lot of the other kids are doing soldiers from the same wars and stuff so we could do that if you’d like”
“Well,” Janus mock whispers, “I was thinking we could spice things up a little bit, maybe do some queer people throughout history, freak the class out about it.” Janus was acting nonchalant but on the inside he was nervous; Patton’s reaction could change this entire election.
Patton’s face seemed to light up even more if that was even possible. “That sounds awesome! There are so many people throughout history and no one even knows about it! Like did you know historians think Abraham Lincoln might have been gay? Or Eleanor Roosevelt, they found letters from her to a female lover or Alan Turing, he was essential in the liberation of Europe from Nazi Germany, and he was gay!”
Janus raises an eyebrow, “Wow Patton you sure do know a lot.”
Patton freezes and then rushes to defend himself, “Oh yeah I just wanted to support my LGBTQ friends by learning about their history! I just want to be a good ally.” Patton smiles but Janus can tell he’s nervous.
Yep, Janus thinks, totally just an ally.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two weird things happen next week. Janus and Patton get an A on their assignment and Patton start sitting at Janus’ table. Janus has no clue why; Patton could sit at any table in the entire cafeteria and be welcomed as an honored guest. The first week Patton sits at Janus’ table, Janus doesn’t talk to all. He has his recorder on sure, but he’s too confused to respond.
Patton talks about everything. He talks about frogs and theater and the stars. He talks about his family and his favorite colors.
It should drive Janus crazy, but it doesn’t.
Listening to Patton talk becomes one of the best parts of his day.
When Janus finally starts throwing in a sarcastic comment here and there, Patton’s smile could outshine the sun.
Janus ignores the fact that his heart speeds up more than it should when he’s around Patton.
With every recording he sends to Ethan, his guilt grows and grows. Janus doesn’t know how to handle the guilt, and he definitely doesn’t know how to deal with how he feels about Patton.
He can’t stop thinking about Patton, even when they’re not at lunch together. He can’t stop thinking about the way Patton’s eyebrows crinkle together when he laughs or how he gives Janus his full attention when he talks. He doesn’t want to think about the swell of anger in his gut every time someone so much as looks bad in Patton’s direction.
Today though, today something is wrong with Patton.
He won’t make eye contact with Janus, and he’s hunched in on himself. His smile is absent, and he won’t stop twisting his fingers.
This isn’t how Patton’s supposed to be. He’s supposed to be joyful and happy. But that’s not right, is it? Janus has always thought of Patton as a positivity god, above it all. Now, as Patton fidgets in front of him, Janus is reminded of how undeniably human Patton is.
Patton’s voice is so low that Janus isn’t sure if I heard you, “Do I bother you?”
Janus blinks. He never thought someone like Patton would ask him questions like that.
“Of course not,” Janus says, and it’s the truth. He loves being around Patton. He loves hearing him talk, he loves the fact that he’s three inches taller than Patton, he loves how Patton makes him feel better about himself when Patton is around. Janus wants to find whoever made Patton believe that he was a bother and give them a black eye. Or two.
Patton still remains hunched in on himself, “It’s ok Janus, I know you’re just being sarcastic.”
“Patton,” Janus says, “Look at me,” He waits until Patton reluctantly meets his gaze, “You’re not a bother, in fact, sitting here with you at lunch is the highlight of my day.”
Patton lets out a surprised o with his mouth, and Janus isn’t sure whether or not he wants to wrap Patton in a thousand blankets or hunt down everyone who ever hurt him.
Patton is making Janus soft, but he can’t find himself to care.
Next Tuesday, Patton comes up to his table like he’s about to go to war. His shoulders are tensed and his eyebrows are furrowed. His backpack straps are pulled as tight as possible and he’s marching towards Janus’ table.
“I’m gay. And I wanted to tell you because you’re the first person in my life who doesn’t care about who I am or what I can do for you and I really hope that’s okay” Patton says, and he’s shaking a little.
Janus is struck by how brave Patton is. Janus has never had the guts to come out, not like this, and here Patton is, exposing himself completely. Janus can see the fear in his eyes, but Patton doesn’t let it stop him.
“I knew you weren’t just an ally.”
Patton twirls the bracelet on his left wrist, “Am I really that obvious?”
Janus shakes his head, “Nah, it just takes one to one.” Janus watches as the confusion on Patton’s eyes morphs into realization.
“Oh,” Patton says.
“Yeah” Janus replies.
Patton smiles at him and starts talking about frogs.
Janus’ phone feels heavier with the recording of Patton coming out.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Janus sends the recording of Patton’s coming he should feel good. He did it, that tape is enough to ruin Patton’s popularity for the rest of high school. He won.
But he doesn’t feel good. In fact, he’s never felt worse. He’s going to get everything he ever wanted and he hates it.
He can’t keep doing this to Patton, he can’t keep pretending to be the friend Patton so desperately needs when his moral compass is practically pointed towards Antarctica.
He can’t take back the damage he did to Patton, but maybe he can stop pushing the knife deeper.
He picks up his phone and texts Ethan.
Janus Dean, 7:30 pm: we’re done, I’m not going to pretend to date Patton anymore, I’m not going to send you recordings anymore.
Ethan doesn’t even bother texting him back, He just calls Janus a few seconds after he receives the text.
Janus picks up his phone and takes a deep breath. He has a feeling he’ll need it.
“What the fuck Dean?”
“Hello to you too Ethan,” Janus says, hoping the sarcasm will hide the panic.
“Don’t you fucking dare ‘Hello Ethan’ me.” Ethan snarls, “A deal is a deal, you can’t just pull out like this.”
“Why do you care anyway? You’re not running for student body president, I am!”
“Aw, you’re cute Dean.”
“What the hell is that supposed to mean.” Janus snaps.
“You think I give a shit about your little election? Are you crazy? I could care less, no this was all about Patton.”
“What do you have against him?”
A manic laughed echoed through the phone, “I want to see that dumb smile fall right off his moronic face.”
“That’s it? You’re going to ruin his life because you’re feeling petty?” Janus knows Ethan isn’t the most ethical person out there but this is low even for him.
Ethan doesn’t seem to care, “Now you’re getting it, JDelightful.”
Fuck, He underestimated how crazy Ethan could be.
Janus could hear Ethan smiling through the phone, “You’re going to regret saying no to me.” He said, and with that, the line went dead.
It was all over. Patton, the one person who ever cared about Janus was going to leave. It wasn’t a matter of if, it was a matter of when.
However, he did still have a few hours left. And he had nothing else to lose.
Janus Dean,  7:41 pm: Can we hang out?
Patton Hart, 7:41 pm: Sure! When and where?
Janus Dean, 7:42 pm: I know this awesome hidden park we could check out, I can pick you up, I’ll be there in 10.
Patton Hart, 7:42 pm: awesome!!! :D
Janus was going to lose Patton. There was no use of denying it.
That wasn’t going to stop him from taking every second he could get and treasuring it forever.
 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Patton is sitting on the front steps of his house when Janus’ blank car swings around the block.
“Get in loser, we’re going shopping.” Janus deadpans
“Hello to you too snake boy,” Patton says, matching Janus’ monotone.
“Snake boy? Really? Is that the best you could come up with Golden Boy.”
“Takes one to know one Janus,” Patton says. Is he talking about what Janus said when Patton comes out? Janus hopes he’s not blushing.
“Touché, Patton,” Janus says, and Patton grins at him. Janus can’t stop staring at his lips.
Stop looking at him like that, you’re never going to be his anything.
Janus ignores his inner monologue.
Patton shuffles his playlist and Don’t Stop Believing comes on.
“Oh my god Patton, you are such a dad.” Janus groans, but Patton pretends not to hear him
“Don’t stop believing,” Patton sings, “Hold on to that feeling” Patton belts the last song and it’s so terrible, but it’s so Patton and Janus falls just a little bit harder.
Patton is giving him the look, the do what I say or I’ll be sad look. Janus sighs.
“Hold on to that feeling.” Janus sings, and Patton lets out a whoop, and Janus starts signing louder, “Street light people, waiting just to find emotion.”
“Living just to find emotion!” Patton shouts, and Janus belts right along with him.
Another song comes on, and then another, and suddenly Patton and Janus have screamed themselves hoarse singing 80s songs.
By the time they’ve gone through six songs, the sky is falling down, and Patton’s windshield wipers are swiping in overtime.
When they pull up to the park, it’s pouring. There are no cars in the parking lot and Janus can barely see five feet in front of him.
Patton frowns, “Aw man, it’s raining. I guess we’ll just have to come back later.”
Janus freezes. There is no later. It is literally now or never.
“No,” Janus says.
“No?” Patton says in surprise.
“It’s just water, it can’t stop us from having fun,” Janus says. This is it. If Patton says no Janus doesn’t know what he’ll do.
“Okay,” Patton says, giving Janus a mischievous smile.
Janus unbuckles his seat belt and gets out of the safety of the car in the pouring rain. Within the first three seconds of being outside, Janus is drenched from head to toe. He doesn’t notice.
“Hey,” Patton says. Just like Janus, Patton is soaked. His cardigan is leaking, and his glasses are foggy. His curls have fallen flat and raindrops hang on his bangs.
“Hi,” Janus replies, and this is so absurd. He’s standing outside alone with Patton Hart in an abandoned park in the rain, just before his life is about to fall apart.
Janus wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Dance with me,” Janus hears himself saying.
“I don’t know how to dance.”
“I’ll teach you.”
Janus walks over to Patton and says, “Ok so first I’m gonna put my arms around your shoulders like this,” Slowly, in case Patton wants to pull away Janus puts his arms on top of Patton’s shoulders.
“What’s next?” Patton asks.
“Put your arms on my waist,” Janus says. He can feel Patton hesitate and then tentatively wrap his arms around his middle. The feeling of Patton’s skin on his is electrifying.
Patton smiles, “Now what?”
“Now we just move,” Janus says simply and he follows Patton’s movements. For a beginner, Patton is a surprisingly good dancer.
The two dance under the stars to the melody of the rain.
Neither of them says anything, but Patton’s face is so close to his and his lips are even closer.
It takes all the willpower Janus has to not kiss Patton then and there.
“Hey, Patton?”
“Yeah, Janus?”
The butterflies in Janus’ stomach are more like raging pigeons.
“I’ve been meaning to tell you this for a while, but, I think now is the right time,” Janus takes a deep breath and Patton gives him an encouraging look.
“I like you. I really like you, Patton. I’ve liked you ever since you sat down at my table and started to talk about frogs. I thought it was just a friend thing, but it’s not. Because the truth is Patton, I want to be with you, all the time. I want to kiss you and I want to call you my boyfriend.” Patton is silent.
“If you don’t feel the same way, I totally get it. I’ll leave you alone. I won’t push it, I promise. I don’t want it to be weird I just want you to be ha-“
Janus is cut off by Patton grabbing his collar, and pulling him down to his level for a kiss.
Patton is kissing him. Patton is Kissing Him. Holy shit. This is better than anything Janus could have imagined. Patton’s lips are soft against his chapped ones. They’re warm despite the pouring rain. Patton wraps his arms around Janus’s neck to keep himself steady, and Janus brushes Patton’s bangs away from his eyes.
When Patton finally pulls away, there’s fire in his eyes.
“You absolute idiot,” Patton says, taking a second to breathe, “how could you think, even for a second, that I wouldn’t like you.”
Janus laughs and doesn’t stop looking at Patton, “I guess I’m just dumber than I thought.”
Patton nods vigorously in agreement, “understatement of the century, snake boy.”
Patton goes in for another kiss, and Janus doesn’t want this night to ever end.
Fuck Ethan.
Fuck the election.
Fuck other people.
Janus just wants to stay with Patton forever.
When he gets back from his date with Patton, Janus is so happy, all he wants to do is jump and scream with joy. He’s never felt more himself around another person. He feels so alive when he’s with Patton that he never wants to stop.
He drops his bag down on the floor of his bedroom and jumps on his bed. He’s smiling so hard it hurts but he doesn’t want to stop. He’s pretty sure he hasn’t used those muscles in years.
He grabs his phone, pops his earbuds in, and shuffles the playlist Patton made for him. He’ll never get over the small act of Patton making a playlist for him. He doesn’t think he’ll ever get over Patton. He loves the way Patton lights up when he talks about frogs. He adores how Patton keeps smiling day after day, he’s stronger than anyone will ever know. He loves the way Patton shoves his glasses up his nose when he’s nervous. He loves how when he talks Patton just listens and Janus somehow knows that Patton understands. He loves how good Patton is. He loves how he tastes like cinnamon and rainy days.  Being with Patton is like seeing this sun after years of being stuck underground, Janus will never get sick of his light.
After he finds the playlist he lays down and closes his eyes, and just listens to the music. He breathes in and out and it’s almost like Patton is right there next to him.
About 15 minutes later Janus’ phone buzzes, and he grabs it excitedly, hoping Patton is sending him a goodnight text.
His mood plummets when he sees who really texted him. Ethan. This can’t be good. Time has run out.
When the messages app opens there are two unread messages.
The first one is a link to an Instagram post made by Ethan. The second one reads “You can’t get rid of me that easy.”
When Janus clicked on the post, it was a list of screenshots. Texts between Ethan and Janus. Texts between Patton and Janus. Janus’ audio recordings. And they spilled everything
The whole school knew that Janus had got together Patton for political power. The whole school knew that Janus had tricked Patton. The whole school knew that Patton fell for it.
Fuck, the whole school knew Patton was gay. Janus let Patton get outed. Patton, who shared his secret with Janus, was now left to vultures known as teenagers. Patton, who was still figuring himself out, was forced out of the closet in the worst possible way. Patton who thought someone finally loved him for who he was and not what he could do, was just publicly used for political gain
He would never get to choose how to say it. He would never get to hug his friends when he invited them to their favorite diner and told them over milkshakes about who he was. He’ll never get to slowly start to wear rainbow pins on his pack packs. He would never get to walk into a GSA and see the happy surprise on everyone’s faces. He would never get to be ready.
And it was all Janus’ fault.
He has to call Patton, and he has to do it now.
When he dials Patton’s number it rings out. He dials again, the same thing. Again and again. Every time Patton doesn’t pick up Janus breaks more and more.
“Fuck!” He shouts, and his voice cracks. He can feel the tears start to come and his throat start to close up. He ruined the one good thing in his life. He should have seen this coming. His happiness was never meant to last.
His only consolation is that tomorrow is a Saturday, so he doesn’t have to put on a brave face so anyone. He won’t have to face Ethan in the halls. He won’t have to see the disgust and disappointment in Patton’s face.
That night, he cries himself to sleep.
————————————————
Janus spends the entire weekend locked in his room. He doesn’t have the energy to get out of bed. The loss of Patton is crushing him so hard he can barely breathe. He deletes his Instagram, and turns off messaging notifications. He listens to Patton’s playlist over and over and over again, just to feel like he’s with Patton again. It doesn’t work.
He doesn’t know how he can face school on Monday. He knows he won’t get in any trouble, the student body is so homophobic that they’d probably congratulate him. The school administrators will call it an out of school affair and turn their heads the other way. Janus might as well start saying he’s student body president now.
No, what he can’t handle is seeing Patton in the hallways, robbed of his beautiful smile. Seeing Patton avoid his gaze and stop waving to people in the halls. Watching all the terrible people at Sanders high go in for the kill. He can’t watch, knowing it’s all his fault.
The worst part is he will be congratulated for doing this. He will get his dream. Students will be proud of him, teachers will pretend they didn’t say anything, Ethan won’t get suspended. Patton could fall apart and no one would notice.
The world isn’t fair, Janus always knew Patton would have to learn that. He didn’t want Patton to learn it like this.
No one should.
——————
When Janus’ first alarm goes off on Monday morning he shuts it off instantly. The last thing he wants to do is get up. He does the same thing with the second one. He could fake a sick day, right? When the third alarm rolls around, he counts to three and forces himself to get up. No matter how bad he’s feeling, he cannot show weakness. Not now, and not ever.
He rolls out of bed and puts on clothes robotically. He’s barely aware of what he’s wearing, but it’s fine. Everything is fine.
He laces up his docs and throws his books in his backpack. He unplugs his phone then brushes his teeth. He grabs his bag and then heads downstairs.
He pours himself a mug of scalding black coffee. He downs it steaming hot. He likes the way the bitter liquid burns as it goes down his throat. Never let it be said that he couldn’t be edgy. He doesn’t have anything else for breakfast, and he can hear Patton chiding him in his head.
Janus shakes his head, puts his mug in the sink, and heads out the door.
When he gets to his car he pauses. He means to turn the key to ignite it. All he can think about is Friday night when Patton and Janus ran back to Janus’ car in the pouring pain and held hands while Janus drove him home. Patton kissed him goodbye.
Suddenly, Janus’ lips feel cold.
He takes a deep breath and turns the key. He can’t think about that. Not anymore. He has to stay strong because if he starts to cry, he’s not sure he’ll ever stop.
When he gets to school he parks his car in his spot. He keeps telling himself the same thing: Don't let anyone know you’re bothered, especially not Ethan.
He hesitates for a few seconds before walking in the school building. He will not let his fear control him. He can do this. He owes it to Patton.
In the halls, he can hear the students whispering about him. He hears his name and Patton’s name and he hears the word, queer. The students whisper the word gay like it’s a dirty secret they shouldn’t know. It makes Janus’ blood boil but he has to keep walking.
He keeps looking for Patton in the halls, but he can’t find him anywhere. Patton always gets to school early to say hi to everyone. He’s at school every morning at 7:50 by his locker. Why isn’t he there?
Because you used him for selfish reasons and let him get outed, idiot, he thinks.
For the rest of the day, Janus’ classes go in one ear and out the other. It’s a Monday so he doesn’t have any classes with Patton, but he still can’t pay attention. He can feel the states of other students during class and it is unbearable. Patton made school enjoyable and now that he’s gone it’s a nightmare.
During lunch, his food tastes like cardboard and he sits alone. He doesn’t know where Patton is but he’s not at their-his table. He forces the sandwich down and opts to hide in the library for the rest of lunch.
At the end of the day Janus instinctively starts walking to his car in the parking lot. It’s in the fifth row. When he gets to the third bow he stops walking. Patton’s car is in the third row. He can deny it all he wants but Janus knows that if he doesn’t talk to Patton now he never will.
He can’t let Patton go, not now, not ever.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Before Patton sees him, Janus can already tell he's been crying. His eyes are red and puffy and he won’t stop rubbing at him.
He’s about to get in his car when Janus shouts, “Patton wait!”
Patton whips around, and when his eyes meet Janus’, Janus resists the urge to take a step back. The pain in Patton’s brown eyes is overwhelming.
“What do you want, Janus?” Patton snaps. His voice is hard and cold, so unlike the typical warmth, Patton brings to every conversation.
Janus avoids Patton’s eyes, “I wanted to apologize, I never meant to hurt you and,” Janus looks for the right words, but nothing seems to work, “I’m so so sorry.”
“You dated me to help you win an election, Janus, how did you not mean to hurt me? The whole idea was to hurt me!” Patton says. He’s shaking.
Janus can’t think of anything to say, so Patton just keeps going.
“I finally thought I found someone who wanted me for who I am! No! Everyone just wants me for what I can give them, popularity, friendship, support, and I thought you were different! I opened myself up to you and you spilled my secrets to the world!”
Janus closes his eyes. “Patton…” He whispers, and he reaches out for Patton’s hand.
Patton jerks back violently as if he has just been burned. “I don’t have anything to say to you.” Patton’s fists are clenched at his side and Janus wonders if he’s going to start swinging them.
He’d deserve it, but Janus just won’t stop pushing. He loves Patton too much to let go.
“Patton please.” Janus says. He has never been a beggar but he is willing to fall down at Patton’s feet just to see that warm smile directed at him one more time. He would walk through hell and hack just to make Patton happy again.
“You know what Janus? I could forgive the whole, I played with your emotions to win a dumb high school election thing.” Patton says, “I could forgive how I gave you my heart and you crushed it beneath your heel. But you didn’t just leave it at that. No, you had to publicly humiliate me. You let your friend Ethan out me. I don’t care if it was for an election, you don’t just get to do that Janus!” Patton is screaming at him now, “You don’t get to decide that. I’m supposed to be the one who decides where, and when, and who knows, and how I get to say it, that’s supposed to be my thing! And you took that away from me.”
Patton’s explosive anger is hardening into something cooler, harder, and more dangerous.
“So would you please just get the fuck away from me!”
That’s when it really hits Janus how badly he fucked up. Patton never curses. Patton doesn’t even say darn. If Patton was angry enough to use a curse word, the world should be terrified. It’s more unlikely for Patton to curse than for him to hit someone
Janus wishes Patton had hit him, because it would hurt so much less.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two weeks later Janus, Patton, and the entire school are in the auditorium waiting to hear the election results. All of Janus' months of work have led up to this moment. The name on the slip of paper the principal is holding will tell him if it was all for nothing.
Students are chattering to each other but Janus tunes it all out, because for the first time in two weeks, Patton is sitting next to him.
Granted, it’s not by choice, the two candidates have to sit together in the first row, but Janus will take anything he can get.
“Alright everybody, Settle down, settle down.” The principal's deep voice echoes through the auditorium. When he’s satisfied with the noise level, he continues, “Both of our candidates have worked tirelessly these past months to present themselves as student body presidents worthy of you, and happy to say that both of them have done a phenomenal job. However, there can only be one winner of this race so without further ado, your new student body president is,” He pauses for dramatic effect.
“Janus Dean.”
Janus waits for the rush. He waits for the happy feeling to inundate him. He has won, everything in these past few months has been worth it. He beat Patton. He showed up Ethan. He showed this entire school that he is worth something, and that he will be someone.
So why doesn’t he feel good?
Janus puts on a smile, grabs the piece of paper with his victory speech written, and walks towards the podium.
When he gets there the lights are blinding, but he knows the entire student body is staring back at him. The only person Janus can see is Patton. Patton looks sad. Defeated. His smile doesn’t reach his eyes.
Janus picks up his speech to read. He’s supposed to talk about the support of the students, the support of the staff, how much this victory means to him, and how he promises to do his very best to fulfill their needs. He can’t start talking though. This isn’t right.
Then it finally hits him.
The thing he wants more than anything isn’t to win this dumb race, the thing he wants more than anything in the world is Patton. He wants to see Patton’s smile every morning. He wants to hear Patton call Janus his boyfriend. He wants to see Patton happy. He wants to have so many firsts with Patton. He wants to be able to kiss Patton whenever he wants. He wants to hold hands with Patton and call him obnoxious pet names.
He puts his speech down.
“Hey everyone.” He says, “First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their vote. It means the world to me that you would put that kind of trust in me.” Janus pauses, and stares Patton dead in the eyes, “However I’m afraid I’m going to have to decline the position.”
Whispers explode throughout the auditorium and the teachers are frozen in shock.
“I thought standing up here was the thing I wanted more than anything, but I was wrong. See, a few months ago, I was assigned to work on a history project with this guy. At the time I really hated him, he was so perfect. He was so good. Then he decided to run against me in this race and suddenly he became a problem I had to solve. Me and one of my friends decided it would be fun for me to pretend to date him, and then leak some of his secrets, showing everyone that he isn’t as perfect as he looked. It was the perfect plan. Or so I thought. I started spending more time with this guy, I tried so hard to hate him, but it was impossible. That’s how good he is. We became fast friends, and he made me better. I loved being around him, it was like waking up to a bright summer day. Loving him snuck him on me, but soon it was like breathing. I couldn’t keep collecting information on him, and so I told my friend it was over. Wrong move.” Janus took a deep breath, but he didn’t stop looking at Patton.
“He outed this guy to our entire school. I don’t know how many of you are part of the queer community, but being out is one of the worst things in the world. Everyone says it’s like ripping a bandaid off. It’s more than that. Being outed when you’re not ready is like someone stabbing a healing wound. It is so fucked up, and one of the worst things I could’ve let happen. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.”
Patton is shaking; Janus keeps going.
“Even worse, I heard what people were saying in the halls. I heard the slurs and the whispers and the hate, and I kept walking. I thought it would be better to keep my head down and stay in my lane, so I wouldn’t get hurt. But the truth is if we don’t demand respect, it is going to get taken from us. LGBTQ+ teenagers face a suicide rate five times that of our straight peers. We are two times as likely to be bullied for being who we are, and it really shows. This applies to everyone including myself: Do better. I should have said something.”
“Your new student body president, Patton Hart, is overqualified for the job. He is caring and honest. He sees the best in everyone, including screw-ups like me. He’s hardworking and selfless. He’ll sit with you at lunch even if he doesn’t know you. He’ll compliment your clothes and help you with your homework. He has done all of these things even when he wasn’t your president. He is the heart of this school, and no one fits the role better than him.”
Janus turns back to Patton and gives him a small smile, “Patton, I am so sorry. For everything. I know this doesn’t make up for anything that I’ve put you through, but you deserve the world.”
Janus turns back to the audience, “Thank you for your time.”
Everything is silent. And then everyone flies out of their seats, and the sound is deafening.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Janus doesn’t see Patton for the rest of the day. It’s a Monday which means they don’t share any classes together. Janus doesn’t mind, he doesn’t even know if Patton wants to see him. He feels a little lighter, he isn’t drowning in the guilt anymore. It isn’t gone but it isn’t suffocating him anymore. Even if Patton never talks to him again, Janus will always know he did one good thing in his life, even if it’s infinitesimal compared to all the bad.
Around 6:30 that night Janus’ phone buzzes.
When he checks his phone, he has one text from Patton, and Janus forgets how to breathe.
Patton Hart, 6:31 pm: did you mean what you said.
Janus Lyre, 6:32 pm: every word.
Patton Hart, 6:32 pm: meet me by our park.
“Yes!” Janus cheers. Patton wants to see him. Janus is going to go see Patton. Janus is going to see Patton!
Every step he takes to his car feels like he’s walking on air. When he get into his car he plays the playlist Patton made for the first time in weeks.
The speed limit on the roads is 30, but if Janus goes at 35 no one has to know.
When he gets to the bench he and Patton have hung out at, Patton is already there.
He’s wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and the blue flannel Janus gave him for his birthday. Janus knows that’s intentional, and the urge to pull Patton into a kiss is so hard to resist. He could do it, there are no people around to get in their way.
“Hey snake boy,” Patton says.
“Hey, golden boy,” Janus says, and oh how he missed this. Patton and his messy hair are inches away from him.
“Can I…” Patton trails off, but he’s looking at Janus’ lips.
“Always.”
Patton and Janus crash into each other. Patton is kissing him and his lips are warm. He tastes like cinnamon. Janus wraps his arms around Patton’s shoulders and pulls him closer, this feels so right. Janus never wants to stop kissing Patton. He wants it to be his job, Janus Dean, professional kisser of Patton Hart. It has a nice ring to it.
“That was one heck of a speech Jan,” Patton says.
Janus smirks, “Only the best for our student body president.”
Patton giggles but then becomes more serious, “Thank you, I really appreciate it.”
“Only doing what’s right.”
“Still”
“You’re right Pat I did have an ulterior motive.”
“Oh?” Patton raises his eyebrows.
“I’ve always loved the sound of first lady,” Janus says seriously.
Patton pulls him in for another kiss, and Janus wonders if he’s dreaming.
“I love you.” Patton says, and his hair is frazzled and he’ out of breath but Janus is struck by just how beautiful Patton is.
“I love you too.”
Life isn’t a fairytale, Janus knows that, but this feels like his happy ever after.
a/n: thanks for reading!!!! yes, the scene where Patton yells at Janus is inspired by Love, Simon, and yes, you read that right, Solangelo did get a cameo

Have you ever watched a movie in class/school that made you cry? Yes. I took this adulthood and aging psychology class and I forget what it was exactly the documentary we had to watch was about, but I remember being on the verge of tears because it reminded me of my grandpa who passed away.
What’s the earliest you could go to bed at night and feel okay about? Uhh, I don’t know? Just whenever I fall asleep.
What is you favorite type of lunch meat? Turkey, salami, and bologna.
What time of the year do you dislike the most? Summertime.
Do you put ketchup on your scrambled eggs? Ew, no.
What is your favorite color to wear? Black.
Are you an overachiever? No. Especially not these past few years where I haven’t done anything at all and put like no effort into anything. :/ At least when I was in school and things were better than how they’ve been the past few years I was productive in school and put effort into things and into myself. I’ve just given up.
What physical feature do you wish you had (i.e. freckles, curly hair)? Perfect teeth.
What fictional character (i.e. Bambi, Scarlette O'Hara) would you marry? Uh, I definitely don’t want to marry Bambi... anyway, I’d say one of the characters Alexander Skarsgard has played.
How long have you gone without shaving (girls- legs, armpits; boys- faces)? I don’t know, a couple weeks or so.
Did you ever go through a phase where you wrote bad poetry? Ha, yeah, when I was like 16 during my emo days. They’re so cringe.
What is your favorite thing about your life? My family.
Have you ever painted a picture of somebody? No.
How many real bfs/gfs have you had? I honestly haven’t had a real, serious relationship.
Did you enjoy your past relationships? With Joseph I did.

I’d like to say no, but I allowed Joseph to use and play me for 3 years, so. I knew deep down he didn’t feel the same way as I did and he didn’t want to be in a committed relationship with me, but I didn’t want to admit it. I liked the attention and the good times we had and I didn’t want to give that up. I would hope that now that I’m older and have experienced that I wouldn’t allow it to happen again. Who would you like to meet before you die? I mean, I certainly wouldn’t mind meeting Alexander Skarsgard.
If your dream was to be a model, and a big opportunity came up, but you had to be nude, would you take it? I don’t feel comfortable being nude when I’m just by myself, I certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable doing so publicly. Absolutely not.
What’s the most ridiculous conspiracy theory you’ve ever heard of? There’s been a lot, but of course I’m blanking at the moment. Most are pretty crazy, though.

The Dance of the Color Guard, Op. 64: Chapter 2
Tumblr media
Katniss and Peeta used to be best friends when they were kids, but now in high school, they're barely on speaking terms. It isn't until they are forced together as the titular star-crossed lovers for their marching band's field show that they will have to face their past mistakes and try to get along if they ever hope of defeating the notorious Capitol Height's Imperial Marching Crusaders in competition.
It's all about winning and if that means pretending to be in love with Peeta Mellark, so be it.
But a lot can happen in six months.
Tumblr: x x
Ao3: x x x
May
Tryouts came and went with an excellent turnout, the best Katniss had seen ever. And in true Miss Trinket fashion, the assistant director had sought out the theatre and dance kids with the promise of getting to perform such an iconic story on the biggest stage they’ll ever have the privilege to perform on. Miss Trinket wanted the drama, the flair, and she didn’t have to go far to get it.
Even more surprising was that they actually showed up and were actually pretty good. Katniss had had her doubts when seeing the likes of musical star extraordinaire Finnick Odair saunter into the gym where auditions were being held, wearing that arrogant smile she always saw on him, but after seeing what he and the other theatre and dance kids could do with a flag, she admitted she was wrong and focused her energy on earning her place as captain.
Between her and Miss Trinket’s determination, Athens Ridge Marching Gladiators might have a good chance of finally beating Capitol Heights this year at PSU!
“We’re looking promising,” she told Leevy as they put together their instruments. It was the day after final rounds of auditions and she couldn’t stop thinking how at the end of today, Miss Trinket would post who was on the team and Katniss would finally know if she was made captain or not. She had done her best, she kept telling herself, and now it was out of her hands. The wait was killing her, though, and her poor bladder was taking most of the brunt, the constant need to pee every two minutes distracting her in all her classes today.
Had she proven to Miss Trinket that she was enough to be captain?
Her legs twitched closed, the need to pee returning.
“You should have seen Finnick Odair twirl a rifle,” Katniss said to distract herself. “It was insane how good he is! I always thought he was a bit full of himself, but maybe he has a right to brag. I’m pretty sure Miss Trinket’s going to use him as one of the spotlight guards.”
Leevy’s eyes widened, her thick-rimmed glasses sliding down her nose a bit. Her crush on the performer was not an unknown fact to Katniss. “Oh, do you think she’d have him play Romeo? I bet he’ll be Romeo. He’d make an incredible Romeo.”
Katniss snorted. “I’m sure he’d be up to the challenge.” Finnick Odair not wanting the titular role would come as more of a shock to her. Miss Trinket hadn’t revealed much about how she wanted to choreograph the show, but if last season’s Cirque du Soleil and Alice Through the Looking Glass the season before were any indications of how she envisioned next season’s show, she would be using color guard to visually tell the story of the star-crossed lovers. Miss Trinket always had “big big big plans” for them all. There was no way she’d pass up on someone talented like Finnick.
Mr. Abernathy gave the two minute warning before rehearsal started up and the girls leaned toward each other to tune their flutes. As they made adjustments, Katniss wondered who would play Finnick’s Juliet. Madge, maybe? She was a good height and her years of ballet served her well, being the lead spotlight guard two years in a row. Or Glimmer? She grimaced at the thought of Glimmer Macklemore being the lead spotlight, believing it would go straight to her head. Glimmer was by far one of the worst human beings Katniss has had the misfortune of knowing all these years, but the girl was graceful. “Like a swan on water,” Miss Trinket was known for saying about Glimmer’s talent.
I hope it’s Madge, Katniss thought, glancing slightly over at her friend who sat further down the row from her, Madge’s cheeks slightly puffed as she tuned her oboe. Yes, Madge would make an incredible Juliet.
*******
All her thoughts and worry over color guard went away during what ended up being a long and brutal rehearsal. It was hard worrying over who’d play Juliet to Finnick’s Romeo when Mr. Abernathy was out for blood. He was yelling at everyone today, not pleased that they had a concert in another week and sounded like a beginning band. What made the rehearsal even worse was much of his agitation was directed at her and the two solos she had. Over and over he made her play in front of the whole band, walking her through the notes, asking her snidely who controlled the tempo. By the time he threw up his arms in defeat, her face was a completely different shade.
“Sign up for a practice room, Everdeen,” Mr. Abernathy told her after her sixth attempt at a difficult run. “And maybe work on your fingerings instead of drooling over Finnick Odair, huh?” He moved his attention to his next victims and was just as merciless.
Slumping low in her seat, her throat tight with choked back tears, Katniss focused hard on her music, pretending she was just practicing when really it took all her strength not to cry. Snickers from the brass section could be heard, or maybe she was just paranoid that the whole band was laughing at her. Either way, no matter how hard she kept her attention on her music, forcing back tears from spilling over, she couldn’t hide how dark her face must look right now. Mr. Abernathy’s words played over in her head, causing her cheeks to warm even more. From embarrassment or anger, she wasn’t sure. The man was never one to mince words and was known for his sour temper, but this was the first time he’d ever taken it out on her. And he thought her, one of his most dedicated players, as nothing more than a teenage girl drooling over boys.
She’d never hated the man more than in this moment.
“Hey,” Leevy nudged her, face sympathetic. “You okay?”
Katniss stiffly nodded, afraid if she said anything, she’d break and start to cry, and that was definitely something she didn’t want to do in front of the whole band.
“He’s being an ass today,” her friend whispered in comfort, playfully bumping their knees together. “You’re his best player and he knows it. He’s probably just mad because Coin took away the pizza buffet in the cafeteria.” Katniss gave a halfhearted smile, knowing her friend was just trying to make her feel better, but Mr. Abernathy was at least right about her playing. She really did need to practice more.
“Okay, we’re calling it today,” Mr. Abernathy sighed, slamming his scorebook closed. “It’s clear no one’s practiced since yesterday and it’s wasting my time. I better hear improvement tomorrow, or I’m going to have everyone play their part and have your whole semester grade be based off that.”
“Practice, practice, practice!” Miss Trinket trilled from the back of the room, typing at the computer. “We want to be the best, don’t we?” Mr. Abernathy gave her the stink eye, like he wanted to argue her statement, but waved his hand, reminding everyone not to leave the band room until the bell rang.
“Well that was brutal,” Leevy joked halfheartedly, her eyes still looking at Katniss with pity. Katniss looked away, unable to stomach her friend’s obvious sympathies. She’d received enough of  that look to last an entire lifetime.
“Can’t wait until he starts threatening laps,” Katniss mumbled, her throat still tight. She just wanted to leave. Run to a bathroom stall to collect herself, but it’d be too obvious and the likes of Cato and Marvel calling her a crybaby kept her seated.
*******
They didn’t often have so much time to lounge around, especially before a concert, but Katniss took the opportunity to catch up on homework she’d been neglecting, too stressed about tryouts to bother with algebra and chemistry. Feeling like everyone was still watching her, waiting for her to crack, she tucked herself in the back locker room, between two instrument lockers, out of sight from her classmates. The space was tight and not the most ideal of places to hide, but it blocked out a lot of the noise from out front and let her take a few deep breaths in. She couldn’t cry until she got home, but at least it didn’t feel like her tears were strangling her any more.
Taking out the beat up copy of A Tale of Two Cities from her bag, Katniss began scouring the chapters they were assigned to read (or sparknoted, in her case) for political symbolisms Mr. Heavensbee, her English teacher, was always quizzing them on during his infamous rapid fire quizzes. English had never been a strong subject for her, finding the books they read incredibly dull and full of nothing but tales about old white guys bemoaning about their manhoods, but grades was the one thing her mom actually paid attention to and hers were slipping in Heavensbee’s class due to these stupid quizzes. Her pencil circled another example, not feeling confident about it, but if her index card wasn’t pulled early on, all the obvious examples would be taken and this would be all she had to argue.
“Good book?” She jumped, her head hitting the wall behind her, pencil stabbing her in the gums. Peeta Mellark stood in front of her, looking all casual in his dark denim jeans and grey shirt, his hands stuffed in his back pockets. He smiled at her scowl. “Sorry,” he said, and to her astonishment, it sounded like he actually meant it. “I didn’t mean to startle you.”
“You didn’t,” she quickly informed, tucking her pencil in the book as a bookmark. “Just preparing to be publicly humiliated in English, that’s all. ”
“Heavensbee’s quizzes are brutal,” he agreed, still standing there, trying to be nonchalant, but his shoulders were way too tight to pull it off. It looked like it was taking all he had to be standing in front of her like this. Her hackles rose. Why should he look uncomfortable?  He sought her out. If anything, she should be the one uncomfortable, caged in a corner like this. “I think I almost cried during one last week,” he continued, not even looking at her now but at the locker next to her head. “Marvel wouldn’t stop making fun of me after that.” That didn’t surprise her, but it felt rude to point out what a shit person she thought Marvel Baxter was to Peeta’s face.
“Yeah.” Katniss tapped her book, unsure what else to say. “Listen, I’m kind of busy trying not to fail and all, Peeta, so unless you have a question…?”
Peeta rubbed the back of his neck and looked down at his Converse, taking a deep breath in. It was a little unsettling seeing him like this, she realized, still confused why he was talking to her to begin with. Normally he knew exactly what to say, in any given situation she’d ever seen him in.
“Okay, seriously,” she said at last, a bit more snappish than she meant. “What do you want? I don’t have time watching you sputter like a dead fish.”
“I want to see how you’re doing,” he said in one breath. It was a totally innocent question to ask, but it felt more like a punch to the stomach, sending her back to when she was 11 years old and standing next to her mother and Prim as strangers she barely knew came up and smothered her in tight, smelly hugs. They cried over how young Sage was, still in his prime, and poor Cary, having to raise those two young girls on her own. The funeral had felt so surreal, her movements stiff and disjointed. Her voice hollow as she thanked the strangers for coming, trying not to cry in front of them as they passed. Her father’s death still hadn’t fully hit her yet and the only thing she wanted was to crawl into the casket with him and shake him awake, tell him this joke wasn’t funny any more.  Ha ha. He got her. Now could he please get up so they could go home?
Katniss’ throat tightened at the sudden memory and she shoved her book in her bag, really needing to go before she did something stupid, like cry in front of Peeta Mellark.
“I’m fine,” she said, trying to push past him. Peeta wasn’t only tall, but his wide frame stopped her from escaping as easily as she’d like. “Really.”
“Katniss.” He grabbed her hand to stop her, but pulled away instantly, realizing he had no right to touch her. “You looked like you were about to cry out there and then you bolted—I wanted to see if you’re okay.”
“I  wasn’t going to cry!” she snapped, her vision red now. There were only so many punches she could take in one class period, but it seemed the universe kept wanting to come for more. “I was doing homework, Peeta, and then you waltzed in, wanting to rub it in my face that I’m a terrible player. Were you hoping I’d cry? Is Cato secretly filming this?” She looked around the small room for Golden Ass’ burley frame.
“Cato isn’t in here, Katniss,” he snapped back, then winced, realizing his mistake. “I didn’t mean for it to come out like that. What I meant was: Abernathy is a complete asshole and he shouldn’t have said those things to you. Katniss, you’re the best player in the band and he knows it.” Any other day, hearing the sweet sentiment twice in one period would have been a real confidence booster for her, but today, it just felt like pity. Leevy felt sorry for her and now freaking Peeta Mellark felt sorry for her, too. What a blow  that felt, looking into his sad blue eyes right now.
“I don’t want your pity,” she sneered, not knowing what else to say, but if he kept looking at her like that, she was definitely going to break down crying. Then he’d just look at her with that pathetic sad expression, feeling even more sorry for her.  “Abernathy was right about my runs and I can handle his criticism like I do with everything else in my life: alone. So if you don’t mind.” And she tried to push past him.
In typical Peeta fashion, he blocked her only exit. “I wasn’t pitying you, Katniss.” His tone sounded as sharp and annoyed as hers now. “I was being nice. I know you don’t know what that is because you think the whole world is out to get you, but it means caring about other people and being there for them.” She looked down at her feet at the sudden weight of his accusation, her hand tightening around the strap of her backpack.
They were so engrossed in their argument, neither heard the familiar clap clap clap of Miss Trinket’s heels before the small woman announced herself, causing them both to jump and turn to the small woman.
“There you are!” the assistant director smiled. “Peeta, I have been calling your name. Didn’t you hear me?”
Peeta glanced down at Katniss, his eyes still hard, before looking over at his teacher. “Sorry, Miss Trinket. Katniss and I were just...talking.” Why did he say it like that? He made it sound like they weren’t talking and by the twinkle of amusement in Miss Trinket’s eyes, she suspected nothing else from two teenagers hiding in a back room.
“I’m so sorry to interrupt your... talking” —Katniss’ cheeks darkened again, wondering how fast it’d take for the rumors to start going around that she and Peeta were caught making out in the instrument locker room by Miss Trinket—“but I need to speak with you for a moment, Peeta. If you don’t mind?” She motioned for him to proceed ahead.
Peeta’s eyebrows scrunched together. “Am I in trouble, ma’am?”
“No, no!” their teacher assured. “Mr. Abernathy and I need to discuss something with you about this upcoming season. Nothing scary, I promise.” He went ahead with no further comment, his hands stuffed in his front pockets, as Miss Trinket hurried ahead to unlock the band office door. He didn’t look back at her as she stood there, hand still gripping her backpack, and somehow, that felt worse than his pity.
Katniss, I’m so sorry about your dad. It’s so not fair. How are you doing?
Katniss?
Katniss?
Are you there, Katniss? Hey, how are you doing?

05. The Rich Kids
AU Grace and Simon story. Takes place in the instance that they never got on the train, but crossed paths and became friends.  Generally, these could be standalone, but this one will be sequential for the next chapter whenever I get around to posting it. 3359 Words and I will be making a masterlist when I get a chance.  Previous
Simon handled the essay for his scholarship exactly how he thought he might. He was NOT okay, but he got the job done. He started with an introduction about why he wasn’t even sure of why he would be accepted into an institution like this school when his life was so ripe with problems, and honestly admitted that he was telling them all of this “for a girl.” He described the way that he met Grace and how important her friendship and being close to her was to him. He used that as a segway of WHY he needed a close friend, being brutally honest about the things that were happening in his life when they met and the things that he had gone through since. He put heavy emphasis on his relationship with his mother and how HE was now caring for her, even though he could see in her eyes that she didn’t care for him, at all.
He wanted to learn from somewhere that could help him to be great. He felt like a jack of all trades, but in a kingdom of shit. He wondered if he could get away with saying shit. He went back and edited it to censor it, but to make it known that she still meant shit. He ended it out with how he didn’t seriously expect them to pick him, even with his GPA being what it was and him having skills in these areas. “But, I have to be able to let my only friend in a lonely world know that I did what I could to stay beside her. This is my best.”
Whenever he submitted it, he spent the next couple of days holed up in his room. He needed recovery time and worked on setting up a scene for his portfolio. His portfolio was turning into something he really loved. He had written pieces - generally inspired by Grace, some artwork of her in various forms, photos of his best figures and the scenes that he would put them in, and other photos from him trying his hand in photography.
He made money by doing people’s homework assignments, and charged more for special projects. But, everybody in school knew that if you wanted a quality A+ project in a hurry, Sci Fi Si was the guy to go to. He wasn’t even teased as much as he used to be. Emphasis on “as much.” And his former bullies? They were terrified to cross him again… or rather, to cross Grace. Simon kept photos of her and the two of them together as a little reminder for that group and as his daily dosage of serotonin while he was stuck at school all day without access to her.
He still was considered a nerd, had a crappy home life that made intrapersonal relationships difficult and unhealthy, meaning he wasn’t great with people and only knew the right things to say for short periods of time, and he was pretty broody and sarcastic. A lot of people didn’t like that. He definitely talked to most people like they were stupid. (Most people were) and he was pretty unapologetic in his convictions. He was like the poster boy of “If you think you’re better than everyone was a person.” He credited Grace for that, to be honest. Whenever you have somebody like that in your world and they’re not only interested in who you are but they like who you are, the rest of these peasants could suck a toe.
Plus, he was smarter than all of them. He had written several books, though unpublished were absolutely splendid, in his opinion, and not just for his age, but period.
Oh yeah - he was cocky.
That was another thing people hated about him.
But, people didn’t matter to him. He did have a secret soft spot for kids, but the ones in his neighborhood avoided him and he’d even heard the rumors that whenever he was younger he killed his kid sister. It hurt at first. It sent him into a crying rage in which he destroyed everything in his path up until the moment his mother emerged from the bathroom to “smack some sense into him.” He avoided children after that. They made him uncomfortable. He wanted the world to be a safe place for them and wanted to protect them, but he didn’t think he was cut out for stuff like that, so steering clear of them was probably best. Besides, they were just… so weak. They were frail. You had to start toughening them up way too young in order for them to be great and he just couldn’t imagine having to be that for anybody. He couldn’t do it for his sister. If she were stronger, maybe she… He programmed himself not to think about her.
Now Grace, she was great with kids, but she wasn’t super fond of them. Like, yeah, she liked to see their smiling faces and generally was able to make them smile, but she wasn’t in a rush to meet any or have any, despite the fact that her dad made her take a course to learn about sexual reproduction and teen pregnancies before letting her go to school. She was horrified to learn about that entire process, especially considering that it had not once even CROSSED her mind!
She saw two married people who had a child every day and their life was nothing she wanted to work towards and certainly nothing she wanted to accidentally catch herself up in.
If she ever did anything like that… She’d have to go through so much getting to know and getting used to someone and that sounded like way too much work, considering she already knew somebody. She knew Simon and that by itself was a lot. Having a best friend was both everything amazing and very exhausting. Her mother told her that whenever she got ready to get married, to make sure she married her best friend, and her father had quickly interjected and corrected the woman by saying to make sure that she married somebody “equal” to her… She had a feeling from both of their moods that neither of them were that for the other. But, no worries there, because she was NEVER getting married.
She was going to dance FOR FUN, maybe open a dance school, or some kind of school, and read books in her free time and go on adventures with Simon that they currently were too stifled to go on. She was gonna be with her best friend for the rest of her life, but not in the unfortunate situation that she saw in her parents. And she knew that Simon would agree to that, because he said that they were a team.
.
Simon set up the camera that he wasn’t actually supposed to touch, because it was his fathers and while he was away, Simon wasn’t supposed to go into the garage, but he was away and it would be months before they would see him again.  That was what he was doing when he heard the notification on his computer. He presumed it was something that Grace sent him, so he rushed to check, and it wasn’t. It was the Dean… setting up an appointment… because he was accepted… He hurried to get that squared away and then called Grace to let her know.
“Yayyy! Another adventure together! I KNEW you could do it, Simon!” She cheered.
“I couldn’t have done it without your idea,” he said.
He didn’t add, “Even if it ripped my heart out to do it that way,” and she didn’t hear it in his silence; because she replied, “I think you’ve known me long enough to know that I’ve never been wrong, ever in my life, and if I have - It. Didn’t. Happen.” He laughed a little bit. “Look forward to more outstanding quotes on a daily basis, when we’re seeing each other AT SCHOOL!” She was SO excited. She had put together as many acceptable options that fell within the dress code of the uniform but also with a little of her own flair, and she worked on getting her schedule filled. Simon had to do all of that whenever he went in. because he admitted that he didn’t really know what to do and so the administration helped him out with it.
Simon would make the trek to Grace’s every morning and ride to the school with her in the car. Four years after meeting her, he still knew her drivers better than her parents, because they either were never around or he wasn’t over when they were. She still hadn’t seen his mother at all outside of photos and every time she saw his father (a whopping 3 times in the past 4 years), he looked different. A few more tattoos, a little more or less hair on his head or face. It was still just Grace and Simon by the time they got to the academy.
The first week of school was extremely different for both of them for different reasons...
Grace found that people were apparently “naturally drawn” to her, and in an effort to not let them down, she became very popular, very quickly. She made sure that whenever she saw Simon, she made room for him though. She’d call his name and wave him over. He hated groups of people, but she had been surrounded by them since Day 1, so he had to tolerate them.
Sometimes, if he looked like he wasn’t okay, or if they talked about a current issue he was having on the ride over, she’d tell the others, “I’ll have to get with you all later. Today is a Simon day.” It always made him feel good. Warm inside and cozy and a little fluttery… Stuff that he became severely aware of. She caused reactions in him that he hadn’t previously experienced. He always thought that she was pretty and out together nicely and smelled really pleasant, but like, now…
Not just his brain but other parts were starting to respond to those characteristics. And, he became dangerously aware that a lot of the other boys noticed her like that too. Know who didn’t seem aware? About any of it?? Grace.
Whenever the Fall Festival rolled around, she was the girl that everybody wanted to take to the dance, even upperclassmen. She was the girl that the girls wondered about what kind of dress she’d wear. She was the girl that the dance teacher asked if she wanted to open up the dance with a waltz. “I don’t know how to waltz,” she had said. After all of her years of dance, the teacher was stunned. She wanted to teach her before the dance. She said that she had the perfect partner to pair her with. “Oh, no no no no… I only have one person that I would be dance partners with,” she’d said.
Simon wasn’t keen on being dragged into this, BUT it did mean that some other guy wasn’t going to be dancing with her… for now. Who knew WHO would ask her to dance at the actual dance, which he tried to convince her would be boring and that they should skip it.
She would have loved to just go to the pumpkin patch after school, pick a few pumpkins to carve and make treats and cozy up with him for a movie night… but, she had to go to this dance! There was a lot of pressure on her to go and she was fueled by pressure and the stress of letting people down. So, the compromise here was that Simon could skip it if he wanted to, and they’d do the pumpkin patch thing the next day. “Even though I’d much rather you come to the dance with me,” she said, with a pouting face.
And everything inside of him turned into mush. Before he could think, he’d said, “Okay,” and couldn’t take it back, because her entire face lit up and she threw her tender arms around his neck, her soft hair was against his cheek and her body was pressed too close to his. He could inhale the flowers and cupcake scents of her beauty supplies and lip gloss, and everything was warm. Too warm. Hot even. He squirmed out of her arms and said, “Yeah, yeah,” ignoring her confused face about him pulling away. It didn’t last long anyway. She credited his mood to hating stuff like school dances and moved on with life. He overheard her telling people, “Sorry, I’m going with Simon to the dance, but if I get a chance and your date doesn’t mind, I’ll save one dance, just for you.” He actually heard her say that three times before she was too far away for him to hear her anymore.
She was always doing that. Just telling the other kids whatever she thought that they wanted to hear. He figured it was because she couldn’t tell her parents “no” and so she was just used to reflexively saying whatever kept the peace. He was like that once. But now, the last thing he did was care about what either of his parents had to say. He was never home anyway. He was always with Grace, either stashed in her room, or somewhere in town enjoying life and causing mischief. Since school started, she hadn’t been able to get out as much. She would complain about homework, which she hardly had the attention span for and Simon would simply do hers to get it done, but now that she was in school, her parents would set up social arrangements for her and other well to do kids (mostly to rub elbows or have pissing contests with their parents).
But… he had a date with Grace, and his dad was at home on leave, so he didn’t have to worry too much about having to be at home. He did have to worry about formal wear, though. He groaned as he headed for class, taking out his phone to try to see where he might find an affordable formal and how much hustling he’d have to do to obtain it.
.
One thing that Simon hated about the academy that was different about his last school was that the bullies here were far more sinister and also more protected. If he got into a fight at public school, there might be a suspension and maybe some penalty for disrupting class or something.
If he got into a fight here, the zero tolerance violence policy would get him kicked out… and yet, and yet, and yet… that did not happen with those rich boys whose parents paid for wings of the building, and had statues, or replaced team equipment… the kinds of boys that resented him for being so close to Grace, and let him know that he didn’t belong there, every single day. The kinds of boys with the most powerful commodity in the world - money.
The first week of school, someone had asked him what his father did. He answered honestly, “He’s in the military.”
“Is he high ranking?”
“No. He served for a while, got out, but reenlisted a few years ago.”
“What about your mother?”
He answered less honestly, but close enough, “She’s a housewife.”
“How did they afford to send you here?” Just… right out of the gate, huh?
“I have a scholarship.”
“For which organization?”
“It’s an art scholarship. The Kissington one.”
“Oh.” the ‘Oh’ was enough for him to realize that it wasn’t a good one. But, they added, for good measure, “You’re poor.” And technically… his family wasn’t really POOR. They never were short for the bills, like some of the kids he knew. There was usually food, if he made a trip to the grocer. His mom was able to stay at home, not working, receive medication, and they had a cat. So, he wasn’t rich, at all, but he wouldn’t have considered himself poor, either.
But here, anybody who wasn’t wealthy was poor. Sure, the Laurents could afford their bills, but he was never able to do anything extra if he didn’t find odd jobs. Meanwhile, Grace sometimes couldn’t see him for a few days because her parents were hosting a politician or a royal, or she had to go overseas for a few weeks, or she just really wanted to do a spa day weekend and he simply couldn’t come along because it cost too much.
There was a group of kids that had let him know that they were “on his level.” But, he didn’t spend a lot of time around them, because he was here for Grace and he had Grace, but he was aware that everybody wanted her too. The difference was he was certain that she was just a status symbol to these people, but she was his friend.
The teachers didn’t like him very much either. They seemed to always be suspicious of him and he couldn’t tell if it was his imagination that they weren’t as lineate about objective answers as they were with some of the other kids. He knew that he was smarter than a lot of the kids who did better than him. He KNEW he was. School was less of a hell hole whenever he would worry that he might have to fight for his life. There was something so much more unnerving about fighting something that wasn’t physical, and having the disadvantage, because he simply couldn’t add up to his peers in a lot of these people’s eyes. He knew that he was more evolved than them, but all they could see was money, and he just wasn’t made up of it like these kids.
Whenever they left school, Grace would brag about all of the compliments that she got and go on about how awesome school is and wonder how it was for him. “Are you happy?” he’d ask.
“Yeah!” She’d said.
“School is great. I mean… you’re there. That makes it the best place” She’d look at him for a moment, like she didn’t know if she believed him, her eyes sad and suspicious, but she’d smile and change to subject to something that they both loved. It was true in a way. Whenever she was there, he forgot about his problems and just soaked her in and her followers were even nice to him in those moments. A few of the girls even admitted (or maybe lied) that he was cute. But, they weren’t together the entire time and most of the time, he was miserable. But… if she was happy… I mean, that’s why you came here, Simon, he’d remind himself. Maybe it would simply take a moment for things to become normal.
And a few months later, after he agreed to go to a school dance with her, he knew that whatever their normal was, they weren’t in it… or it had changed. He didn’t know for sure which one, but he knew that at the moment, he wasn’t enjoying it. The snide kids. The sneaky boys. The snobby girls. The suspicious staff. He was becoming increasingly angry, and wasn’t sure if Grace was still enough to quell that. She had so much more going on than him, these days. Maybe, she didn’t need him here at all, and she just didn’t know until now. Maybe the fact that SHE had a lot of money and HE didn’t, made him anxious. He couldn’t catch up, and even though they still had their inside jokes about being “the apex” like when they were kids… he felt like she was the apex, and he would have to work extremely hard to ever truly be powerful. He would have to do more to get and have money. Being intellectually and physically superior didn’t matter if there were enemies in place who could affect your personal trajectory!
This became clearest whenever the Fall Festival came around and he finally was able to actually meet the infamous Mrs. Monroe.

A/N: This is for day 9 (roommate au) of @aosficnet2 ‘s aos au august. This is just a short little intro to the bus kids as college roommates but I’d love to write more about the shenanigans they’d get up to so if you have any ideas please send prompts!
___
Jemma Simmons was two parts excited and one part anxious about move-in. On one hand, she’d be moving into a dorm with her best friend since middle school Daisy Johnson. Jemma thought of her as the sister she never had and she was beyond grateful to have the girl by her side in this next phase of their lives. On the other hand, Jemma had never been away from home this long and she was worried she’d get homesick. Then there was the most worrying issue: their third roommate. Because Jemma and Daisy didn’t know anyone else attending their university the school’s housing administration picked someone for them. They were going in absolutely blind, all they knew was that her last name was Fitz and Jemma really hoped she’d be nice.
She didn’t have a lot of friends from her hometown. Most of her peers had shied away from her due to her intense love of science and her need to perform well in school. At one point she had even been the kid who reminded the teacher to assign or collect homework, but that had been before she met Daisy. The brunette was a bit of a rebel and somewhat of a slacker academically (Jemma couldn’t count the number of times Daisy had just not done an assignment, despite its simplicity and Jemma’s willingness to work together) and when she moved to Jemma’s town in sixth grade she immediately took her under her wing. She had convinced her to stop narking about homework, though Jemma was still a huge suck-up to all her teachers, and had even gotten her involved in some of her “bad-girl shenanigans.” Despite Daisy’s influence, Jemma still graduated as her class’s Valedictorian by a wide margin and was accepted into one of the top science schools in the nation: SHIELD University for Science and Technology, technically SUST for short but everyone just called it SHIELD. With Jemma’s help, Daisy raised her GPA and scored well enough on the SAT to be accepted into their computer science program, though Jemma suspected she would’ve made it in without the scores as she was a genius with a computer.
Regardless of the paths they took to get there, the two girls were thrilled to be starting this new chapter of their lives together. It had been difficult to say goodbye to their parents (Daisy’s dad Cal had even tried to stowaway in the trunk in order to get more time with his daughter) but they had loaded all their belongings into Daisy’s van and made the ridiculously long journey to New York.
“Are we done yet?” Daisy whined, dropping a box onto the floor of their living room.
Their dorm was a suite-style room with two bedrooms (one with two beds and the other with one bed), one bathroom, and a shared living room. It was pretty nice all things considered and Daisy and Jemma didn’t mind sharing a room.
“Dais, that was the first box,” Jemma rolled her eyes affectionately and Daisy groaned, tossing her head back as she stomped back out to the van, Jemma on her heels.
They managed to bring all their belongings up without any sign of the mysterious Fitz and Jemma was starting to wonder if she even existed. The longer they went without meeting the more anxious she became. Jemma really wanted to know at least a little about the other girl before she started leaving stuff around the shared spaces, she’d hate to lose any of her things because they got stuck with some kleptomaniac.
“No, mum, I made it just fine,” they heard a guy say outside their door as they lounged on the school-provided couch (Daisy had insisted she needed to rest before she could start unpacking). “I don’t know, I’m about to meet them now…. I’ll call you back… yeah, uh-huh… bye.”
Jemma had expected the voice to fade but instead, she was able to hear the rest of the man’s phone call outside the door. He must live across the hall, she thought as she turned towards Daisy. “C’mon, let’s start unpacking, and then we can go get some food.”
That seemed to be enough to motivate the brunette as she jumped up from the couch and made a beeline to the nearest box labeled “clothes.” Jemma laughed, about to follow her when the door creaked open.
“Excuse me?” She said, slightly sassy as she stared at the boy in the doorway.
“Just looking for my dorm,” he said, giving the two girls skeptical looks.
“I think you’ve got the wrong room, dude.” Daisy laughed while Simmons stared at him strangely.
“I’ve got the paper right here that says this is my room number,” he said, holding up said paper and waving it slightly, “M’supposed to be rooming with a Johnson and a Simmons.”
“Johnson, Simmons,” Daisy said, pointing to herself and Jemma respectively.
“Don’t tell me you’re Fitz?” Jemma cut in, looking at him disbelievingly.
“Leopold Fitz,” he introduced, sounding somewhat solemn, “But everyone just calls me Fitz.”
“This has to be a mistake.”
___
It was not a mistake.
Well, technically it was. The dorms weren’t supposed to be coed but due to a shortage in housing this semester and the fact that there were two separate bedrooms in the dorms they had decided to forgo the coed issues.
“I don’t see why you’re complaining man, you get to live with two girls.” The student working the desk had said to Fitz though it was clearly audible to the whole group. Jemma thought she might vomit and Daisy looked about ready to punch the guy but Fitz just walked away, looking disgusted which Jemma appreciated.
They were back in the room now, Daisy and Fitz sitting across from one another in the sitting room while Jemma leaned against the wall, silently observing as they scrutinized one another. It had been going on for quite some time and Jemma felt it was getting tedious but Daisy was relentless and apparently Fitz wasn’t one to back down from a challenge. From her studies, Jemma had also learned that her new roommate was quite adorable, scientifically speaking of course.
As this realization hit Daisy leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees as she narrowed her eyes to survey more closely, prompting Fitz to lean back, a startled look crossing his face and oh my did he just get more adorable?
Yes, she’d definitely have to study hin further she decided. For science.
“Fine.” Daisy conceded, leaning back in her seat and Jemma watched the tension recede from Fitz’s form. “But we need a roommate agreement, like a contract.”
“Obviously,” Fitz said, and the pair turned to look at Jemma with their eyebrows raised.
Jemma busied herself with collecting a pen and paper to give herself some time to wrangle the butterflies someone had set loose in her stomach before sitting down beside Daisy and doing her best to avoid making eye contact with Fitz. She had been prepared for the high-level biology and chemistry and biochemistry courses she’d be taking but the curly-haired, blue-eyed boy across from her presented a whole new set of challenges and that was before she found out his major.
