Some facts about Harding gathered from the banters
I went through all companion banters on DanaDuchy's channel after playing the game to write down all facts about companions/the world that I haven't seen brought up anywhere in the game as a writing reference (and for funsies).
Note: This list may not be exhaustive. I might have missed some something or didn't write it down because I considered it common knowledge. If you have anything to add, please DM me or send an ask! (do specify what banter the information is coming from, though)
Note 2: Posts from this series (mostly) don't include information from banters specific to quests or between companions and faction members. I plan to do another playthrough to capture more of those and will add any relevant info to the character posts.
Other characters' posts: Bellara, Davrin, Lucanis, Emmrich, Neve, Taash to be added tomorrow (or on Monday Jan 5th)
Family and past:
Harding's parents split up a few years ago. Her father lives in Amaranthine. She's okay with that and thinks her parents are happier apart
Hardingâs mother never taught her how to cook, she's entirely self-taught
Harding carries around the first letter her Mother sent her after joining the Inquisition
Harding doesn't have siblingsÂ
Harding had a mabari named Contessa who passed away from old age
(If in romance) Taash offers Harding to get a mabari together
Time with the Inquisition:
Back in Skyhold, Solas once told Harding he was sorry dwarves couldnât dream
Harding thinks that if she had never joined the Inquisition, she probably wouldâve got married and tended to goats
Harding volunteered for the Inquisition because their soldiers kept scaring the sheep because they all had super old maps. And because she didn't want to spend the rest of her life watching sheep
General:Â
Harding likes sandwiches, they are one of her favourite foodsÂ
Harding finds Treviso very beautiful (who doesnât)Â
Harding would bring a bow, clean socks and a spoon to a deserted island
Harding likes books about blood and gore
Harding doesn't like killing, but she doesn't feel bad about it. She compares it to farmers having to kill wild animals that get too close to their land, as sometimes a quick kill can prevent more suffering (i.e. if a wolf gets inside your sheepfold, your own animals will die in pain)
She says that this kind of mindset is the reason why a lot of Inquisition scouts came from farmers, as they need to kill people when necessary (even if those people arenât their enemies personally), but donât go out looking for it
Harding likes almonds. They are crunchy :)Â
Harding is fascinated by Minrathousâs nightlifeÂ
Harding doesn't drink alcoholÂ
Harding really likes puns
Harding has fought a Stormrider dragon beforeÂ
Harding has a detailed and decorated scrapbook with her kills (with doodles. Including a cute giant spider)
Harding never visited Nevarra before the Veilguard, though she had heard of Cumberlandâs Summer Exhibition. Emmrich disregards it as just a market with a horse showÂ
Dwarves and magic:
Harding finds herself more hungry than usual since getting hew new powers
Neve and Emmrich hypothesise that Harding developing Titan powers may have increased her lifespan (or even granted her eternal life)Â
Harding describes using her magic as âtouching something vast and eternal, a well, deep insideâ. Lucanis says that it sounds similar to him using his demon powers
Relationships with companions:
Bellara, Neve and Taash call her âLaceâ. Davrin and Lucanis call her âHardingâ
Emmrich calls her "Harding" most of the time, though he calls her "Lace" on two occasions (in a banter about Emmrook, and the one where he talks about seeing her aura differently after he becomes a Lich)
Harding grows special plants for Davrin to help him mask the griffon smell in his room
Harding grows truffles for Assan
Harding lets Assan sleep on her
To Lich!Emmrich, Harding appears different from other dwarves. She has a special aura (but it comes and goes)
Harding buys an enchanted barbed arrow to take out Lucanis/Spite if push comes to shove. She later tries to give it to Lucanis and apologises, but he insists she keeps it as a sign of his trust
Harding finds Teia intimidating because she is âpolishedâ (Lucanis disagrees but notes she keeps good track of all utensils Viago poisoned at the table)Â
Teia called Harding fearless in a conversation with Lucanis
Harding invites Neve to her house in Ferelden after Neve's apartment in Minrathous burns down, in case she wants to get away from the LighthouseÂ
Harding is very excited about Neve taking over the Threads (âDo they have to kiss your hand?â) and wishes she were a crime boss
Harding once dreamt of Neve stealing her strawberry tarts
Harding starts humming Taashâs name to herself after they get together
About gifts from Taash:Â
Harding doesnât use the archery bracer because it feels so special sheâs afraid it could get lost or get dirty
She also doesnât wear the hairpin because sheâs afraid to lose it
Taash got the cheese in Minrathous
Conclusion: get Harding cheese, itâs the only thing she isnât afraid to actually use
Garden and plants:Â
It's enough to mention a plant for it to start growing in Hardingâs garden
The Fade plants normally donât need tending. However, they may begin to wilt if thatâs what you expect them to doÂ
Smugglerâs Rose clouds the personâs mind if you are wearing it like perfume, letting you pickpocket other people more easily
Sage bane mixed with troll moss can be used to treat toenail fungus

One of your recent posts talked about the way BH have essentially "run out of plot" in following the Red Moon/Predathos plot and the way that the PCS are being played.
I was also curious about your thought on the interparty dynamics in the end game, particularly with recent developments. One of the issues I've had with Bell's Hells for a while now is the way they don't challenge each other (or at least not in the way previous parties have)
Yeah; they don't. And honestly I think this is a combination of just...luck of the draw of the characters they created combined with that lack of room for those characters to develop because they've been in an environment that hasn't allowed much time and space for anything but rushing to the next task. Like, as mentioned, a lot of characters are kind of here to hang out or have goals that aren't specifically tied to personal change, if they have specific goals at all. That's not a bad thing! Grog, Jester, and Fearne all share that quality and are all fantastic executions of it - and Grog and Jester do change quite a bit despite that because the story gives them many opportunities to do so, and yes, because their fellow party members challenge them. But it feels like the bulk of Bells Hells if not all of it is kind of in that boat.
I remember an early panel in which Marisha said "I don't want to think anymore" and I know Travis has mentioned something similar for Chetney, of wanting to play someone much more chaotic after playing someone so highly controlled as Fjord. Liam also talked about stepping back from being a major decision maker at some point, and built Orym to be someone who had a viewpoint but didn't specifically assert it (as we've just seen). Like, I think most resentment C3 fans have towards C2 is just jealousy and bitterness but perhaps a fairer grievance is that the cast really brought their A-Game to the Mighty Nein with a lot of incredibly complicated, driven, messy characters and due to the smaller nature of the company then combined with the scaled back production of the pandemic focused intently on them; and then nearly all of them made a bunch of fairly go-with-the-flow or chaotic characters as a breather and (not unfairly or unreasonably!) thought they'd be in a story that would give them space to become something else or that would suit them, and it didn't. As someone who likes actual play I think if nothing else this serves as a look into how fantastic overall cast chemistry doesn't translate into compelling party dynamics.
To be clear, I think Bells Hells like and care about each other, but none are really the type to both strive to be better and challenge those around them to be as well. Even their defenders in the fandom are kind of leaning on the party of NPCs line from very early on [which is funny because a lot of people HATED that line at the time; I got hate over thinking it was apt] but the thing is yeah at this point in the campaign, they shouldn't still feel like a party of NPCs. Perhaps this is a personal preference, which, to be clear, does not in any way invalidate it as criticism, but as someone with a bit of a comics background, I've never been terribly into "Suicide Squad"-esque stories but I am into stories of Person Who Has An Opportunity And Rises To The Occasion Despite Not Being The Best Choice On Paper. Ultimately, my issue isn't that Bells Hells come from humble backgrounds and tragedy (this is also...not untrue for the Mighty Nein, incidentally; in fact they had even less endorsement from powerful groups. Molly died 26 episodes in and he just stayed fucking dead because no one had Keyleth's phone number so this is another case of "your defense just makes me think the Mighty Nein achieve this in a far superior manner"); my issue is that, as Laudna put it, they kind of just walk through doors because they're in front of them. I don't need them to become classically heroic; but I do need them to have some sort of intention. And they don't. Why are you walking through doors? "Because they're there" doesn't cut it. You're here because the Exandrian Accord gave you a whole bunch of support so don't play that "i'm just a nobody with nothing" shit anymore, it's demonstrably untrue.
I had this in the tags originally and I decided, perhaps unwisely, to move it into this post because I think it's relevant, but: in case it's not apparent, I think "You! Are! Valid!" culture is fucking awful; this is what that weirdo who thinks I'm from Reddit is mad at, I think (honestly I'm not sure if they're angry, they might just be very unwell). Like, it has roots in something true and helpful; you are valid for things like your race, gender, sexuality, ability/disability, and things that have happened to you in the past. But actually no one is automatically valid for their actions. Being incurious or inconsiderate or incapable of taking constructive criticism, even if this is tied to your past? not valid. Your trauma and pain is valid; what you do in their name very much might not be. And I think a lot of people who love Bells Hells do not like this message (which, Bells Hells don't like this message, hence the repeated "whatever you do is fine" conversations) and kind of romanticize a "NO ONE IS ON OUR SIDE WE MUST DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR US THERE'S NO GOOD ANSWERS" state in which one cannot be held responsible for action nor inaction and that's a lot of why they respond so dramatically to the increasing sense within the fandom that this party lacks the juice and does judge them for inaction. Like, I've been talking about character agency and how a lot of people's enjoyment of Bells Hells hinges on how they HAD NO CHOICES and I think we're seeing the fallout, which is that a TTRPG story (ie, a medium defined more so than anything else about player choices) about characters who were stripped of choice kinda sucks ass, and anyone who doesn't look to actual play D&D to valid their personal morality (which, in this case, usually is "the world is unfair so I can do whatever I want" anyway) would rather see a story about a character who fucking had a viewpoint and did things with it, even if it were a "bad" viewpoint. I know I'm hard on villain stans because a lot of them are actually people who are like "what if the VILLAIN were the HERO...I am very intelligent," but actually, this is the crux of why Darth Vader was very popular. It's not because people thought he was a good person; it's because he drove the story more so than the heroes much of the time, and people responded to that. Purely reactive characters are boring and to get back to your original point do not challenge each other unless someone else starts the reaction chain, and there just haven't been too many opportunities of the external nor internal variety to do it. It's mostly bad luck and again, a session zero could have fixed this, but it is what it is.

I feel like a component is missing in this analysis. Azula has many mental health issues stemmed from narcissistic abuse and abandonment. Therefore, she will not act in a typical manner. It's never stated in the show but some people theorize she might have schizophrenia and/or borderline personality disorder. I have a friend with BPD who sees themself in Azula. However, having a mental health disorder is not an excuse, rather it's a reason. Azula doesn't get a pass for her bad deeds, she must be held accountable and own up to her mistakes. But this isn't possible unless she does the necessary work, ergo her redemption arc.
Let's look at those that have abandoned her, whether real or imagined, rational or irrational; Lu Ten, Iroh, her grandfather, her mother, Zuko, Mai, Ty Lee, and her father. Her circles of influence became smaller and smaller until all that remained was her father. Then he pigeon-holed her into the position of Firelord, leaving her behind. All of this could've caused her to develop a disorganized attachment style characterized as unpredictable, intense push and pull. Zuko might have an anxious attachment style due to his mother's disappearance and his father's conditional "love". He is highly emotional and seeks validation when we meet him but over time, he does the work and he heals his inner wounds.
I interpret Azula as only acting in a way that Ozai would approve. Why did Azula even go to Zuko's bedroom to tell him that "dad's going to kill you". If she wanted him gone, she could've just kept her mouth shut. Zuko would've been out of the picture, her mother would still be there, and she would be next in line for the throne. She had everything to gain from not telling. But she did. And to top it off, she said "maybe a nice Earth Kingdom family will adopt you." She doesn't want her brother to die. She offered a solution to his problem. Yes, she acted mean and condescending but it is all an act. If she shows genuine care, that is considered weakness and Ozai does not tolerate weakness.
Now the part about lying about Zuko killing the Avatar. I agree that it was Azula hedging her bets. Again, though, she had everything to gain with simply arresting Zuko. With Zuko in prison, she'd be the next firelord, no question. Why is she going against her own interests? We learn later that mirror Ursa says that Azula uses fear to control her friends. She could've been using fear to control Zuko. She wants Zuko to be in her life, but she needs something to hold him there, some blackmail against him that'll make him stay. She lies about Zuko killing the avatar, letting him restore his honor and earning their father's love, the things Zuko wanted the most. If it were that the avatar is alive, everything that Zuko wanted will be taken from him in an instant. Azula uses Zuko's fear to control him, to keep him close, believing it was a slim chance he'd betray her given the high stakes. But she was wrong. She says "I'm about to celebrate becoming an only child!" But behind the mask, she could be silently screaming, "You left me!"
There's a lot about Azula we don't know and we are making assumptions based on what little we got of her. However, imagine if there was a Book 4 like the head writer was planning from the beginning? We see Azula reveal more about her past and see her be challenged, letting her character grow. I think it would've been a beautiful redemption arc, giving hope to those that can relate to Azula and show that it is possible to find happiness.
what bugs me about azula redemption discourse is the fact that people genuinely think azula lied that zuko killed the avatar to show she cares for him. if she cared about him, she wouldve had the courtesy to warn him instead of blindsinding him during the meeting. That just added to his anxiety and while her fears of what ozai would do if her if she disappointed him are validated by ozai's actions, that gives her no right at all to knowingly put her own brother in the position. she literally said, "you can't treat me like zuko!" in the finale, which says a lot about how aware she was of how zuko was treated, and the fact that she recognized that that's not how she would like to be treated.
Oh yeah, this is a pretty wide-spread problem in the atla fandom in general but I notice a lot of it in specific azula-stanning (and usually zuko-hating) corners, where it's like 'Azula never even really did anything bad and how dare people call her one of Zuko's abusers for sibling rivalry stuff' as if gleefully crowing to your brother that your father is going to kill him or watching with a smirk of satisfaction as your father brutalizes him is all just 'normal sibling rivalry stuff'. Nevermind what came later, like actually trying to kill him.
So we end up with this kind of discourse that relies on making up a bunch of stuff that honestly doesn't make sense nor fit in with what we do know of these characters and the situation, but because they can do enough mental gymnastics to make her out to be The Real Victim Here then anyone who doesn't agree just hates abuse victims or whatever.
The fact is, at its most charitable interpretation, Azula was bare minimum hedging her bets. Because this scene:
comes before Zuko's meeting with Ozai, where we hear this:
And then, as if that weren't enough, we have Azula herself admitting it:
I feel like a lot of Azula stans who insist she was just trying to help Zuko, that she cared for him and was just trying to help him return home with honor, missed this part of the conversation, or just conveniently forget about it when it comes to defending their fave. But while Azula initially claims she did it to help Zuko out of the goodness of her heart, she comes right out herself and says she doubts Zuko's conviction about the Avatar's death, and she doesn't want any blowback to fall on her if and when the Avatar eventually resurfaces.
She was, at bare minimum, covering her own ass, with little regard for how it would ultimately affect her brother (for whom she has little care or concern, according to how we see their relationship playing out). Lines like you can't treat me like Zuko help to highlight this, because while, yes, they are both victims of the same abusive parent, Azula also became an active agent in Zuko's abuse, and the realization that to their abuser they are both just as disposable even after everything she did for him within that framework is a huge part of what led to her complete psychological breakdown in the finale.

My favourite books from 2024! Another really strong year of books for me -- every year will have some stinkers and a bunch of middling reads, but the highs of this year were really high so I'm pretty content
As always, I give more detailed descriptions and opinions of the books in my month reviews, but here's a quick breakdown for anyone who's interested:
The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt
A non-fiction book that looks at how childhood has been ârewiredâ, focusing specifically on the increase of overprotective parenting, increase of tablet/social media usage, and decrease of unstructured, independent play. It was a fascinating read that really looked at how children need to be given lots of opportunities to play, take risks, and make mistakes in order to learn and grow and how a loss of that might be impacting peopleâs mental health. As someone right on the cusp of the age bracket thatâs being focused on, it felt very exposing.
Apothecary Diaries v1-2 by Natsu Hyuuga
Maomao is kidnapped and sold as a servant to the imperial palace, where she serves as a general dogsbody in the rear palace, home of the emperorâs various consorts and concubines. Sheâs determined to keep her head down until her contract is up⊠until she helps solve a mystery and catches the eye of the powerful eunech Jinshi who soon learns about her in-depth knowledge of apothecary work and anything to do with poisons. Very funny premise, Maomao hates Jinshi soooo much and he is such a simp for it. She just wants to eat poisons and be left alone and he says âno<3â to both of those
Bury Your Gays (and Straight) by Chuck Tingle
Both of these are very explicitly queer horror novels. Straight is a novella that riffs on the format of a zombie story, but with straight people becoming inexplicably violent towards queer people one day a year. Bury Your Gays is about a Hollywood screenwriter who realises his horror creations are begin to stalk him in the real world. Both are very intentionally built around social commentary on queer issues, and despite have audacious premises they completely own their camp and end up producing really well thought out, insightful stories. I canât say I liked either as much as Camp Damascus but either is worth a read.
Console Wars by Blake J. Harris (and Blood, Sweat, and Pixels by Jason Schreier)
Console Wars is a nonfiction book Iâve meant to read for years on my brotherâs recommendation and I quite enjoyed it. It explores the history of the video game console market in North America, with a focus on how Nintendo revitalized it and how Sega then swooped in to upset the monopoly it held. The book is written in a very narrative, personable style and I found myself really rooting for the various people and companies being portrayed ahahaha. A shockingly fun read. I also read Blood, Sweat, and Pixels which wasnât quite as narratively compelling but a related read that looked at games with complex development cycles.
Defekt by Nino Cipri
Technically the sequel to Finna which I also read this year, but Defekt works as a stand-alone and is, imho, the better of the two. Both deal with a surrealist horror Ikea setting, where the sheer density and liminal-space-ness of it all allows strange wormholes to open up between these stores from different dimensions. Finna deals with actual wormhole hopping, whereas Defekt focuses in on one employee who gets assigned to a very strange overnight inventory shift.
The Disabled Tyrantâs Beloved Pet Fish v1-2 by Xue Shan Fei Hu
Fish isekai book. Is this a good book? No. Is it a really really fun book? Yes, in spades. In this book, Li Yu wakes up in a court drama novel⊠but not as a character but rather as the tyrannical princeâs pet fish. He is given the task to improve the prince and is stuck figuring out how the hell to do this as a fish. This book knows exactly how ridiculous it is and leans into it. Li Yu and Prince Jing are both idiots in very unique and exciting directions. No one knows what the fuck is happening.
Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire
A prequel to Every Heart a Doorway, though it works perfectly well as a standalone. Honestly I liked it more than the first. This book has deliciously gothic horror vibes, and it plays with all the tropes you would expect from gothic horror / fear of the sublime. Itâs about sisters who find a strange chest that lets them descend to the sinister land of the Moors. This is where vampires rule, werewolves stalk, and mad scientistâs ply their craft. The girls end up separated on and very different trajectories as they grow and acclimatize to the brutal existence of the Moors.
Escape From Incel Island by Margaret Killjoy
Exactly what it says on the tin. Completely insane book that is very worth the read if you feel like something that is patently insane. I strongly recommend treating this as a read aloud with a friend or loved one because I read it with my brother and couldnât stop laughing. Top notch mercenary Mankiller Jones is sent to escort a computer scientist to Incel Island to retrieve lost governmental data. There they have to survive the hoards of Nice Guys, Volcels, Betas, and every other violent inhabitant of the island if they ever want to⊠escape from Incel Island.
Heaven Officialâs Blessing v6-8 by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu
I finished the main series of Heaven Officialâs Blessing (without reading the extras yet), and man what an ending! I could not have asked for a more epic or satisfying conclusion! The final battle and its various stages? The character reconciliation? The villain reveal? Perfect, no notes. The series itself follows Xie Lian, a prince who has ascended to godhood twice and been cursed and cast out from Heaven just as many times, giving him the title of the Laughingstock God. The story begins with him, to everyoneâs dismay, ascending a third time.
Horrorstör (and Paperbacks from Hell, My Best Friendâs Exorcism) by Grady Hendrix
This book also deals with a Strange Alternate Ikea, but is the superior book. This was one of my top reads for 2024, and it was flawless horror. It is essentially a haunted house story set in an Ikea, that manages to be both chilling, disgusting, and a shockingly insightful critique of capitalism and retail. Very worth the read.Â
After reading this I also read Paperbacks from Hell (a nonfiction book that does an analysis of horror fiction from the â70s and â80s, very good read) and My Best Friendâs Exorcism (which was decent but not my favourite of Hendrixâs since possession and exorcism isnât my favourite brand of horror. The vaguely queer undertones and ending I found interesting, and it did some cool things throughout.)
Jeeves and Wooster books by P.G. Wodehouse
I ended up listening to so many of the Jeeves and Wooster audiobooks this summer while I was travelling. There were some I really really loved and some that fell very flat for me. I think I listened to too many in a row by the end⊠These books are like popcorn, not deep but very fun, and follow the airheaded but good natured Bertie Wooster and his man Jeeves who unfailing swoops in to solve all the strange and inane problems the Bertie gets involved in. They tend to be funny, light-hearted, and clever in their resolution of plot problems⊠though some of the issues do get rather repetitive. My favourites were: The Inimitable Jeeves, Very Good Jeeves, Right Ho Jeeves, and the Code of the Woosters.
Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi
Some excellent science fiction, especially for my Pacific Rim loving heart. This bordered on the cosy fantasy genre, while mixing in plenty of science, world-building and a good dash of excitement. During the Covid-19 lockdown, Jamie Gray is stuck trying to make ends meet as a food delivery driver⊠until he runs into an old acquaintance who suggests he might have a very different job offer for him. Jamie ends up joining this very secretive âanimal rights groupâ and finds out just how massive, dangerous, and otherworldly these âanimalsâ are by being risked to an entirely different dimension filled with giant, radioactive monsters.
Lula Deanâs Little Library of Banned Books by Kirsten Miller
One of my favourite books from this year! Tthis book managed to hit on very topical subjects with both tact and humour. Lula Dean has spearheaded a book banning crusade, managing to get a number of âproblematicâ books removed from the library and has made a show of setting up a Little Free Library in her yard full of âappropriateâ books instead. When Beverly Underwood visits her mother and hears about this sheâs so exasperated with it all that she quickly hatches a plan swapping out the dust jackets of some of the banned books with the ones in Lula Deanâs Little Free Library. The rest of the story is about various people in the town who borrow a book from Lula Deanâs library and how the book they got instead ends up impacting not just themselves but their town. The first story involves a penis cake. Canât recommend it enough, starts out humour and quickly becomes something you want to rally around.
My Happy Marriage v1 by Akumi Agitogi
This was pure mindless fluff, it was honestly a delight. This is a low-fantasy, Cinderella-esque story set in the TaishĆ era. It focuses on Miyo Saimori who lives under the thumb of her cruel step-mother, haughty step-sister, and indifferent father. Sheâs resigned to being treated like a servant in her own home and ekeing out a strained existence, but her life takes a turn when she finds herself nominally engaged to the allegedly cold and cruel Kiyoka Kudou. Itâs just absolutely overwhelmingly cute and I really enjoy the contrasting POVs.
A Series of Unfortunate Events and Poison for Breakfast by Lemony Snicket
Iâd never finished The Series of Unfortunate Events when it was originally coming out, so I finally sat down and did that, and honestly it was well worth the wait! It was a very interesting series to read as an adult, especially all in one go, because it really let me appreciate everything that Snicket was trying to say. It was a much more clever and philosophical read than I was anticipating, and The End was fucking superb. He absolutely stuck the landing, it completely blew me away. Poison For Breakfast was also a very interesting standalone novella that felt like surrealist philosophy. I might have even enjoyed it more than the basic TSOUE.
The Poison Squad (and The Poisonerâs Handbooks) by Deborah Blum
Poison Squad is a very compelling and topical nonfiction about the formation of the American Food and Drug act. The state of unregulated food processing in the late 19th century was, in a word, nightmarish. Donât read this book if you have a weak stomach. But itâs completely fascinating to see how one person, Dr Harvey Wiley, made it a personal mission to scientifically prove what all these mysterious food additives were doing to people and put limits to what could be sold to consumers. I liked it so much I went to read Blumâs other book, The Poisonerâs Handbook which is set during Prohibition and explores the rise of forensic medicine and again exposes how people were being poisoned by simply living their standard lives.
The Pushcart War by Jean Merrill
The real, true history of the New York City Pushcart War!! For real!!! This is a delightful underdog story that is really written in the style of a history textbook recounting the fictional Pushchart War. This war started in New York City as the roads get increasingly congested with traffic, the worst offenders being the increasingly massive and arrogant trucks. The trucking companies hatch a plan though: if they begin to push out the little pushcarts, framing them as the problem for the congestion, then how hard would it be to push out taxis next? Or buses? Or motorcars? How long until they can make the road a perfect habit for trucks and trucks alone? How can something as small and poor as a pushcart owner fight back?
Railsea (and This Census-Taker) by China Miéville
I heard Railsea described on tumblr and it sounded sufficiently insane that I had to read it for myself. This author is truly unrivaled when it comes to bizarre worldbuilding that feels both very, very grounded in reality while also being completely unexplained and impossible. Railsea is essentially a Moby Dick meets Treasure Island retelling but with trains instead of boats and giant, mutated, vicious moles instead of whales. Unhinged. Canât recommend enough. I followed this up by reading his novella This Census-Taker which was not as much of a frolicking adventure but fucked with my brain just as much or more than Railsea did. Genuinely not sure I even know what happened in that story but I enjoyed the experience of being completely fucking baffled for some 200 pages.
The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw
Another book to ideally not read if you have a weak stomach. This novella is very big on unrelenting body horror. This is a twisted fairytale retelling in which a cannibalistic Little Mermaid meets a plague doctor Frankenstein. Both of them are walking away from cruel past lives, along a trail thatâs soaked in blood and viscera. You feel how painfuly and disgustingly human this book is, while also being so wildly separate from anything that resembles human anatomy or morality. Superb.
Scum Villainâs Self-Saving System v1-4 by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu
The last of MXTXâs three series I needed to read. It was the one I was most hesitant about, but I ended up having a really great time with it. It is simultaneously the most light-hearted and silly of the three series, while also the one that most gleefully dives into torture and sex. So you get a bit of everything with this, and as usual MXTX does a really good job of mixing the humour and series in a way that keeps things constantly interesting. The story is about Shen Yuan who dies our of pure, frothing fury after reading the shitty ending to the shitty, porny webnovel heâs been reading for hundreds of thousands of words. He dies cursing the lousy author and the lousy writing so heâs given a chance: step up and do it better! Which is easier said than done, when he finds himself waking up in the body of the seriesâ villain who is destined to be gruesomely tortured to death. Better get on that!
Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays the Rent by Judi Dench and Brendan O'Hea
This is the written result of a number of interviews held between Judi Dench and Brendan OâHea and she discusses her time as a Shakespearean actress. It looks into what her time working with theatre companies was like, summarizes the plays she took part in, and delivers into some fascinating character analysis of the roles she played. An absolute treasure of a book for someone who enjoyed their Shakespeare and/or Judi Dench.
Singing Hills Cycle v1-5 by Nghi Vo
Probably my favourite series that I read this year, I canât wait for the next book! This series follows Chih and her magical bird companion who come from the Singing Hills Monastery, an order that is devoted to keep recording tales and keeping a history of the land. Chih travels all over in these various novellas, collecting stories, memories, and histories that they come across. The first book has them entering the recently unwarded palace of the late Empress to learn about her marriage, imprisonment and rise in power. The second has them trapped by a pack of tigresses with nothing to do but frantically lure them into comparing stories.Â
The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley
Ten year old Ada was born with a club foot and because of it has never been allowed to leave her apartment. She lives a hard life trying to care for her younger brother and suffer through the abuses of her mother. Things change though as the Second World War truly begins and London begins to evacuate children to the country. Ada is determined â she and her brother will evacuate, they will escape their motherâs house, even if it means her learning how to walk on her club foot. Even if it means facing how different life is for unwanted slum children in the country, and confronting how much she and her brother donât know about life. This was a very touching book, it did a great job of balancing Adaâs justifiable pain and anger with an optimistic story. Queer elements are all subtext but there â they arenât the main focus of this story.
When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill
This book absolutely took my breath away, it was a next level literary experience. Itâs very, very solidly magical realism, so donât go into this expecting true fantasy, everything going on here is allegorical and a beautifully done allegory at that. This story is set during the 1950s, in a time surrounding an event known as âThe Mass Dragoningâ when thousands of women suddenly, spontaneously, transformed into dragons and flew away. The story follows Alex Green who was a child during this event. Her aunt transformed. Her mother didnât. Both of these things have profound impacts on Alex as she grows up, and a womanâs role in society, a womanâs anger, her joy, her desire are all questioned and explored.

Do you think it would have been *better* for Naruto to train under Ebisu for the whole duration instead of latching onto Jiraiya or *worse*? I would personally assume better myself considering that Ebisu is put together, focused, well-prepared and experienced when it comes to children like Naruto.
Definitely worse. Ebisu is just some guy. He's not put together, focused, and well-prepared, he was smug and immature and not very strong. He was TERRIBLE with kids, that's why he struggled to motivate Konohamaru. I like his character development that we see later, but he's just nowhere near interesting or skilled enough.
I've really become a Jiraiya-neutralist. Sooooo many people are either "he's the GOAT he's the realest he's all our grandpas" or "he's trash and a creep and I'm glad he's dead" but like. He's a bit of both. I hate the anime trope of the "pervert" character so so so much, but I've come to accept it as a character not being a bad person but the author being a bad person in a way, you know? The author is the one who thinks spying on naked women is funny and thinks we all should agree, but for the character it's supposed to have the same weight as being a drunken slob or a violent tsundere. Basically, I find my tolerance of this character and ability to look past the """gag""" change a lot depending on the scale of "anime pervert".
Anyway I still need to post that Jiraiya comic I've been working on. Basically, We actually have no reason to believe he KNEW MINATO'S CHILD SURVIVED until he showed up in the manga. As soon as Jiraiya came into Naruto's life, he raised him for several years. He's the only adult who ever parented him. That counts for something.

I saw someone on tik tok that made a video saying that book Harry would be disgusted by being shipped with Draco. And people in the comments were saying fr and saying that we are crazy for shipping drarry and someone even said that drarry was the most disgusting ship ever made in the Harry Potter fandom.
And what you think it would be Lucius and Narcissa reaction to find out that Draco and Harry are dating??? Love your blog
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like my blog!
First of all, making content like that with the intent of shaming/bullying other fans is silly, immature and just plain unkind. So what if people are shipping something you don't like? Or that a fictional character wouldn't like if they were real? Just let other people do their thing and have fun and curate your own content.
Second of all, drarry is the most disgusting ship ever made in Harry Potter fandom? Drarry? Really? Lol. Lmao even. *Insert the 'oh my sweet summer child' speech here*
Third of all, in the case of drarry there is actually a lot of canon evidence, so while that certainly doesn't mean people who don't want to have to ship or enjoy or be comfortable with it, based on canon it's rather unlikely that Harry would be disgusted by it... (Not that it mattes either way. But just saying...).
What Lucius and Narcissa's reaction would be is an interesting question. I think they probably wouldn't be that pleased, but would be kind of resigned. Post-war Lucius just wants to stay out of jail (or, failing that, he wants to get out as fast as possible and then avoid going back). The last thing he wants to do is be openly hostile to Harry Potter, hero of the hour, The Boy Who Lived Twice, Savior of the wizarding world etcetera, etcetera. He probably plays reasonably nice - though I doubt he and Harry will ever like each other.
Harry is certainly not who Narcissa would have chosen, but the fact that Draco does seem genuinely happy with him and that Harry truly cares about Draco and goes out of his way to help him and, just by being with him, rehabilitates his image, certainly makes her want to be cordial. Though again, while she probably pretends otherwise, I doubt she ever really changes her attitudes as much as she pretends. Though perhaps over time she does develop some grudging respect for Hermione (and this perhaps admits, if only to herself, that muggleborns aren't as inferior as she once believed). And well, she and Harry do have their love for Draco in common so that helps them get along even if the relationship is never an easy or entirely comfortable one.
I think there's a plausible argument that by book 7 Narcissa already suspected something was going on with Harry and Draco. In the end of book 7, not only does Voldemort think that Draco has run off to "befriend" Harry, but Narcissa immediately assumes Harry will know where Draco is and if he's ok. So she seems to also think that Draco has gone off to find Harry and she doesn't seem to think that he was looking for a fight. She asks Harry about Draco as though Harry not only will know what's become of him, but will care. Not as though she expects that any meeting between them would end in them fighting to the death like you'd expect given they are on opposite sides of the war. I think maybe she always planned to help Harry, and she just wanted to ascertain what her next steps should be once they got back to the caste - whether she needed to go in and find Draco or if he was already safely away or dead and beyond help. She thinks she and Harry are united in caring about the same person.
After all, she did see Draco lie for Harry at the Manor. And she saw Harry pull a wand from Draco's hand while Draco let him, and then not even stun Draco after. And later she found Wormtail's body in the cell that Draco went into alone and left entirely unharmed. Not to mention, after book 6 she would have read about how Harry named Snape but not Draco as being involved in Dumbledore's death (at first she probably dismissed it as Harry just not having seen everything, but later she puts it together with everything else and she starts to wonder...)
#thanks for this interesting question#i always love answering asks. you all always bring up such thought provoking things#drarry#Harry Potter#Draco Malfoy#harco#hpdm#Narcissa Malfoy#Lucius Malfoy#harry x draco#harry/draco#asks

I mentioned this beforeâ But the character Kyra was originally meant to be shipped with was actually Jamil. But!! After some thought, I ultimately decided that Floyd would be a better partner for Kyra instead.
Soo, take this post as me rambling about how and why Floyra came to be, and why I scrapped the Jamyra concept all together.
Kyra already had an established character and backstory before being shipped with anyone. Usually, I like to create the characters and flesh them out before shipping them with anyone. Although there are times where I do create characters for the sake of shipping (*cough cough* Jester *cough cough*) my process with developing OCs usually focuses on them as a character individually first, then their relationships with canon characters after.
And at first, I thought the idea of Jamil x Kyra was interesting. My main reasoning for Kyra x Jamil was the idea of it.
Caged bird metaphors for days, both come from somewhat similar issues when it comes to not being allowed to be their own person, ect ect. (Also, if you couldnt tell already im a SUCKER for Opposites Attract and Grumpy x Sunshine)
In a way, I liked it because they were so similar yet so different lorewise, having this strict set of expectations put unto them and not being able to act against those expectationsâ but yet, despite how similar they are, they ended up completely different.
And while it is a good tropeâ It just simply doesnât work. Why? Well, because Jamil, putting it bluntly, isnât the kind of person that would be best for Kyra. (ITS OKAY!!! HES STILL BIG BRO!!!!! I saved him from a neverending headache w Kyra LMFAOO)
I started to take into consideration Kyra herself. What kind of person would she want? How does she love? What kind of person would she be attracted to? What does she need in someone? Who would make her happy?
after having to bottle up all her feelings and ignoring her own desires and wantsâ Kyra needs someone that would support her.
She doesnât need nor wants someone to stop her from doing the things that she does, what she needs is someone to support her. And I doubt that Jamil would be supportive of her shennanigans LMAOO đ
Then I got to thinking, if not Jamil who else could I ship her with ??
Then I realized, âOh, Floyd would be perfect, wouldnât he?â
Now, Floyd has always been my favorite character from TWST! But I just didnt want to be biased and miss out on good ship material with another characterđ funny how it worked out though WHAHAHA
Not only would Floyd support her shennanigansâ heâd encourage her to do it. And while that probably isnât the best in some cases, Kyra definetly deserves someone that would support her actual wants after all this time.
I mentioned this before, but Kyra sees alot of herself in Floyd. Yeah, they are weirdly similar (and that actually was not planned), and thats exactly the reason why Kyra was ever attracted to Floyd in the first place. (In general, not even romantically lmao)
And seeing him show all of these traits without a care in the world, to act out on what he feels and what he wants, it encourages her to do the same. And it encourages her to be herself even more, which is exactly what she needs!
There are still times Kyra is hesitant to do things, old habits die hard, but Floyd just being himself is enough to encourage Kyra to do the same. He influences her in a way others view as âbadâ, but for someone like Kyra, its honestly the best for her.
Not only that, but I personally see Floyd as the kind of person to not really care about looks. Yeah, he can see when someoneâs attractive and he acknowledges it, but he really does not care đ
In my opinion, he values personality much more. Anyone who can entertain him or whoever he deems âfunâ.
Kyra has never been seen for anything other than her beauty. Always seen but never heard. And while Floyd does think shes pretty⊠He really didnât care about that when they first met LMAOO
It would be refreshing for Kyra to have someone who actually didnât care all that much for her appearance. Instead hanging out with her for her personality. She was so used to men always sticking by her because of her pretty face that it was a breath of fresh air when she realized that Floyd wasnât like that, and they were just genuinely friends.
The fact that Floyd doesnt care about appearances at all shouldnât really be a big deal, but Kyra would be OVER THE MOON about it.
âAh, I donât care about that sorta thing. If you were boring, I wouldâve ditched you a long time ago, hahaha!â And now suddenly Kyra is swooning and fanning herself and getting weak in the knees and blushing and giggling and kicking her feet and twirling her hair andâđ„đ„đ„
Kyra needs a best friend in a partner. Someone that makes her want to open up and be vulnerable, but also makes her loosen up and have fun. She needs someone that can support her and can keep up with her regardless of how chaotic and rambunctious she can getâ and who better than the menace himself??
No one can keep up with Kyra. And no one can really keep up with Floyd, either (Well, besides Jade, that is.). It was perfect! Because turns out, theyâre the only ones that can keep up with eachother.
While continuing to think on it, I began realizing that they were also similar in other ways! And they can definetly understand eachother because of it.
Two people who have never had anyone bother to even try and understand them, no one really trying to look underneath the surface. Thinking that because of that, they dont âneedâ anyone to. But when they find eachother?? AUGH, they realize it really does feel nice for someone to âget itâ.
Floyd understands and encourages Kyra in a way I donât think Jamil could, and so !!! Floyra became a thing!!! YIPPEEYIPPEYIPPEEEE !!!!
My perfect little weirdos, even if no one really gets them they understand eachother better than anyone else can, and thats all that really matters. Their similarities in personality and ideals that brought them together, and Iâm really just a sucker for the whole soulmates thing đ
While of course, there are definetly flawsâ with Kyraâs secretive nature and both of them being somewhat afraid of opening up and being vulnerable, its also because of those flaws that they end up working together. Because for once, they found someone that can truly understand them, and theyâd be damned to let them slip away.
Anyways !! Ya thats all , ty for reading my silly little yap sesh !! đđ
Tagging!: @screamintoad @taruruchi đïžđïž floyra food âŠ

Hi bb I hope you are doing well! I'm hoping that you are resting, cause I know it's a busy weekđ
I had some questionssss and I remembered the question I forgot in my last ask
1.are there any younger female idols who have expressed their admiration towards hima?
2. Since hima is short and mingi is BIG how large is their size difference in perspective?
3. I was wondering if hima wore a swimsuit top during the water bomb festivals and did she have any iconic moments from that festival?
4.is there any other brand that hima is a solo ambassador for other than versace?
5.if you had to describe hima's personality as another idol who would this idol be?
6.Have the ateez members ever been annoyed by the completely innocent sounds mingri let out? And have they called them out for that?
Ily bb take care of yourself mwahh đđ
Hi sweet! đ„° Sorry this took so long I was on a bit of a writer's block đ€§ I'm also unfortunately still sick but I actually have a lot of motivation to write now! Again don't feel bad about sending me so many asks, seeing a notification next to my inbox is one of the best parts of my day
âą XG members have been quite vocal about their admiration towards their senior due to her incredible range - from heart wrenching ballads to powerful raps - and have actually met her several times during award shows (only to gush about it later)
BABYMONSTER members have met Himari while they were still trainees and were amazed at the fact that YG Entertainment brought her in as the only mentor due to her ability to take care of every aspect of their training; vocals, rap & dance. To this day they continue to develop in part by watching videos of her
IVE's Wonyoung looks up to the vocalist's strength of character, even more so now that she has begun speaking out about the unfairness of this industry, the mental health challenges, the mistreatment, etc. The vocalist has also worked extremely hard to master many aspects of performance, which serves as an inspiration to her
âą Height comparison websites have her barely coming up to the crook of Mingi's neck, however something else makes their size difference so impressive because this man is WIDE while Himari doesn't have much muscle mass. If Mingi wanted to wrap around her waist completely, he would need little less than 1 hand and a half
âą Hima wore the black 'Greca Border Bikini Top' from Versace, a cropped white long sleeve shirt (which quickly became soaked) and very low waisted pants with the 'Greca Border Bikini Bottoms' showing
While Jongho was being all cute and watering their little Atiny plants, this absolute menace was body rolling just a few steps away and motioning for their fans to throw more water at her (think Mingi...but female version)
This event was also one of the first times that the couple was seen being somewhat intimate with each other since she came over to her boyfriend, pressed her back to his chest and began to dance on him (more like grinding-)
After drinking from one of the plastic water bottles - which looked more like a whole kiss than a simple sip - she teased one of the fans in the front before motioning her forward and carefully dripping some water onto her head
A sensual 'The Real' dance break...that's all I can say, she even had a fake lip piercing for this performance and it was the first time Atiny got a glimpse of the spine tattoo (the tape put over it slipped slightly because it got too wet)
âą There was actually a brand that recently lost any possibility of an ambassadorship (you'll find out soon dw). Calvin Klein is slowly attempting to reel her in. Surprisingly enough she's an ambassador for Porsche, Saint Laurent and Cartier
âą Jimin! At first Hima was very similar to Yeosang in the sense that she was shy, wouldn't speak as much, and was somewhat naive (still is) but as she opened up more her personality grew to almost mirror Jimin's
âą They deeply respect their members so when they're intimate with one another they make sure that most if not all members are out or somewhere unlikely to hear them (in part why they got the airbnb during the group's break). There's been very few instances when they were heard (usually in the changing rooms after concerts) but since it rarely happens no one has called them out on it
Ily too!! I hope your post exam break is relaxing and that you're taking care of yourself, mwahhh!! đâ€ïž

Stealth!Donatello x reader
A/N: I decided it probably would be a good idea, to write a little for the ones I hadnât been writing too much about, just to cover some ground. Therefore I thought it would be a fun idea to write some base âfactsâ about some of the Stealth!Turtles. Now, as these are based on the TMNT 2003 Unused Production Art, there isnât really much known about these (at least not much that I could find). Iâve therefore based this on my own idea of what the Stealth Turtles are, and what I think their roles would have been, and then writing a fanfic off of that. Yeah, just a little bit confusing. Anyway, hope youâll enjoyđ€đ
All characters are aged up.
Warnings: Robot/android and human relations, mentioning and description of sex and sexual acts.
One thing was a mutant turtle, another was a kanabo clone of a mutant turtle. But have you ever experienced the stamina of a stealth robot, based on the personality and skill of both a mutant turtle and a kanabo clone of a mutant turtle? No? Well, holy shit, are you in for the ride of your life.
Talking about stamina when it comes to this version of Donatello, is kind of out of place. Robot Donnie doesnât have such a thing as stamina. Itâs a thing only for living beings, measuring how long they could keep going. No this Donnie could keep going pretty much forever. And if you allowed him to, he would. But the only thing that kept him from going at you all day and all night, every day and all time, was your own human needs to eat, sleep and all these other things he did not have to worry about.
But you wonder, why in all of the galaxies, would a robot be interested in sex with a human such as yourself? Well, when Darius made a robot off of two very sexual beings, and gave it a mind of its own, it didnât take long before it developed what could be considered feelings and emotional needs, along with urges that could only be stimulated through physical acts. And with Donnieâs brilliant mind inside a robot, he wasnât above doing a little rewiring or physical addictions on him and his metal brothers, to make such activities with living beings possible. Luckily for Donnie and his brothers, the society of the year 2105, was very accepting of relations between robots, androdis, aliens and humans, allowing them to gain their own experiences - of course without Dariusâ knowledge.
Stealth Donnie found the human body very interesting. During sex or sexual acts, he genurally enjoyed watching his partners reactions. And your reactions was more than just interesting and fascinating to Donnie - it was straight up addictive. The way you whimpered and moaned beneath him and his - at times - rigited movements, made him feel like a real living being. As if he wasnât made of cold metal and steel, but that he was a real and loveable person, who you had decided to put your love and attraction onto.
Donnie enjoyed putting you in different positions, seeing how each of them had their own effects on the pleasure you received. He always took notes on the things that you liked and disliked, using the data to make sure that each time you were together, would bring up pleasure in ways you had never experienced before.

Tulpar Band AU- Character descriptions/some lore PART 2
Uh okay fellas- I had to use piccrew since I'm bad at art (good thing @living-stain is keeping me fed WOOF) and I'll include some more facts about them! This is part 2 of the Tulpar Band AU character descriptions! (Part 1)
(MAYBE I NEED TO CLARIFY MAYBE NOT BUT THE ART IS DONE MY @living-stain!!!!!!! Please show him some love!!)
JIMMY ZARE- Scream Vocals and Guitar
Learned guitar pretty early in life. His parents would often drop him at the local YMCA and he took an instant interest to making music. One of the instructors there also taught him how to write songs and write music!
That instructor also listened to a lot of metal music! Little Jimmy was fascinated with it and demanded the instructor teach him how to do the monster voice thing. (Instructor learned how, just for him) (Jimmy ate up every bit and even made notes in his journal!)
Has perfect pitch! It drives him crazy sometimes when he hears a sound- any sound- and can immediately know what note it is. Although, sometimes the crew will 'test' him. They'll make random noises and ask to identify it
Music was a great outlet for him, so all of his songwriting is very personal to him and exposing himself was something he had to come to terms with if he wanted to start a band and use his songs
he starts a journal of songs and notes about making music and carries it with him almost everywhere. It's where all of his lyrics are stored, where all of his feelings are stored. They have no place in his heart, so they must be put somewhere else
Started smoking cigarettes at age 9 when he snuck one out of his parent's stash. They caught him, but just gave him his own pack and lighter in response (shitty Jimmy parents that I created, when I get you- Jimmy's parents when I get you-)
Becomes a dealer at the high school but low-key only sells to people he trusts (aka people he knows for sure are stoners and don't want to ruin the one plug that will sell to them)
Curly gets him to stop when they form Tulpar, but Jimmy still gets supplies for the two of them (he doesn't know WHERE Daisuke heard about him still selling, but it leads to Tulpar's full formation so whatever)
Smashed some motherfucker's guitar on their first day of high school. Yes, Jimmy was bragging about having perfect pitch, but he didn't expect so many goddamn kids to want him to tune their guitars for class. So when this kid with too blond hair and a grating fucking accent, he finally had enough, and all the annoyance and impatience came out in a violent swing to the ground with that kid's guitar in hand
GRANT CURLY- Main Vocals and Guitar
Picked up guitar the summer before he moved to America. His freshman year of high school is when he was able to commit the most of his time to practice and learned how to play through school
First day of school had his guitar smashed. He brought his own from home not knowing there would be instruments provided, and the kid who smashed it had to pay Curly and his family himself to replace it (Curly parents could replace it no problem, it wasn't a financial thing. And Curly feels bad about this fact for 0.2 seconds before he's searching for new guitars on the internet)
Always had a knack for singing. His dad was actually in a band when Curly was growing up, and while his dad played drums he loved to sit in on practice and sing along.
Karaoke? What was that blond blur just now? That was Curly getting first in line
Develops an alt style thanks to Jimmy, molds it to a more 'classy' look by wearing button-downs and suit pieces (someone said he looked great in a button-down and he decided it was the only thing he would wear ever)
Jimmy got him hooked on cigarettes during their freshman year of high school. He literally cannot got thirty minuets without a cigarette. He's insecure about the smell that lingers on him, so he also carries a bottle of cologne with him almost everywhere
DAISUKE JUAREZ - Drums and Synth/Keyboard
Had an interest in piano when he was younger and kept up with it as he learned drums at 12
Between piano lessons and school, he played baseball at his after-school care program. He really enjoyed it, playing baseball through middle and high school and eventually getting a scholarship based on his skill! he has to juggle Tulpar and his college baseball career, so sometimes they need to schedule around Daisuke
His parents are stupid rich and have lots of connections in production. Both parents work in Hollywood (as what? Beats me him!)
Daisuke is sent to a new high school when he turns 18 (which is junior year. his parents let him finish the year but send him to a state of his choosing to finish high school and experience life on his own) (yes they spy on him through Swansea)
Clicks with Anya instantly when he find out they both just moved to the state the same year. Quickly finds out she's a little bit of a goody-two-shoes (he changes his)
ANYA MUSUME
Picked up bass when she was 13 when she started listening to music. Honestly, she felt bass was a super underrated instrument (and that it was harder to pick up than other instruments). Her dad bought her first bass!
It's been Anya and her father for as long as she could remember. Her mom stayed behind in their home country (I'll figure it out) as they all planned to move to America, but she never made it to them. She suddenly became ill and passed away. This all happened when Anya was very young, so she has little memory of it. But her father does break down when she names her bass after her mom :)
Her and her father moved to a different state during her senior year of high school for reasons unknown to her. Sometimes she overheard hushed phone calls in the kitchen, or notices his shifting eyes in public spaces.
She meets Daisuke in a business studies class and the two take on the first few weeks of school together! It's not until Daisuke tells her that there's someone on campus that sells the good shit and they agree to meet at the dealer's spot that they meet Jimmy and Curly!
Curly and Daisuke have Gym at the same time, so that interaction was nice ("Word?" "Word." "I didn't know you were chill like that.")
The four of them hang out plenty after that!
SWANSEA (LASTNAME?)- Manager (I COULDNT FIND A GOOD PICCREW IM SORRY :(
Part of Pony Express Record's staff of managers. They refuse to hire more, so usually managers are looking after two or more bands at a time. This is also true for Swansea!
Daisuke's parents call in a favor he's owed them for some time, and of course it's for their precious baby boy. And of course he can't say no
He oversee's Tulpar's progress as a unit, coaches them individually on what industry standards are for musicians and then as a group for synergy, blending, and other factors that could risk their signing.
No matter how many times Swansea tells Jimmy his shit wont fly at P.E Records, Jimmy writes what he wants anyways. And the band rallies behind him. And somehow it fucking works
On top of being Tulpar's manager, he also kinda becomes Daisuke's babysitter (on his parents wishes. "Well, you're going to be over there anyways! I don't see the big deal in reporting back to us about what he's- how he's doing :)")

Honestly for a show all about monster of the week being based on people having a bunch of emotions they don't know how to deal with, Miraculous is absolutely allergic to ACTUALLY dealing with any heavy emotions, which is rather necessary for doing a damnation arc.
Sure! Sometimes you can have side characters have their own character arcs without a lot of big emotions tied into them. Find out the wimpy kid decides to become a firefighter! The wallflower becomes an manipulative witch! You can do that with side characters.
But Chloe is not just any side character even if they want to pretend she is. Outside of Marinette, Adrien, Gabriel, and Nathalie in later seasons, Chloe is THE character we know the most about and experience the most emotions with. We go through more hardships and developments with her than Alya, Nino, any of the alternative love interests. We see Chloe actually try to change and grow and struggle to figure out how to be nice. We see her try.
And then Miracle Queen rolls around and this is supposed to be the moment Chloe falls. She is irredeemable now! She worked with Hawk Moth and everything! Never mind Chloe wouldn't even work with him without her parents freed FIRST. That despite how angry and spiteful she was with Ladybug, she would not work with a man who was using her parents. You know, those self same parents who agreed with her when she said she didn't feel any love by saying she could only love herself. Her parents sensed love in her and said it couldn't be for anyone else.
Never mind we know Chloe doesn't really love herself much by her own admission of being useless.
A damnation arc could have WORKED with Chloe, but the only way to do that is to get into the heavy emotions. Get into the fact Chloe wasn't actually getting a lot of help in changing. How any attempts, even if humored, were still treated with suspicion. How no one ever took her attempts to be helpful seriously.
For a damnation arc to work with Chloe, they have to acknowledge that everyone around her FAILED her because the only way to damn someone is to believe they could have been better.
And the fact was, Chloe was working to be better, and only broke because she felt like no one believed in her.
And you know what? That could have been a great story! It could have been a powerful story! But that means saying Chloe isn't solely to blame.
Because the story as the show is TRYING to tell us it is (even if that's not what they're SHOWING by a long shot) is that once a bully, always a bully. Which wouldn't be a such a bad thing.
If Chloe wasn't literally the character outside the main duo and main villains we have invested the most time into. You give Dash Baxter from Danny Phantom superpowers, and he does some heroics, and then he does bully things the next day, and that's fine because we haven't spent literal episodes watching him having moral conflicts and trying to get better! You can tell that story!
But you can't do that with a character the audience has invested in. You have to give emotional payoff. Trying to tell the once a bully, always a bully story with Chloe doesn't work because we know why she's a bully, and we have seen her able to improve with a little help.
Now you could say 'she tried to be better, but found she couldn't get the will to do it' (which I think is bullshit because Chloe is arguably the most strong willed character in the whole series), but you have to EARN IT. And to do that, you need the heavy emotions. And you could have even done it in Miracle Queen.
It wouldn't have been great writing, but it was doable with a little more effort.
By actually having Chloe and Ladybug having a WHOLE ARGUMENT right there. Having Ladybug just go 'wtf, Hawk Moth is our enemy?' and then listened to Chloe go off and just did the narrative version of a SHRUG about it. Let Ladybug try to appeal to her and have Chloe so caught up in her own issues that she just utterly refuses to be reasoned with. It would be in character and show there was some belief in her so she COULD be damned.
But no. Ladybug is just 'yeah, okay, I guess Chloe can just be like this, I just want my jewelry back.'
And worse when Adrien does the same AND CHLOE IS HIS FRIEND.
And then the narrative just...not acknowledge Chloe was willing to work with Hawk Moth. Adrien doesn't rethink his friendship with Chloe after this, but because she was being a bully over a movie?! Adrien, you almost got thrown into the SUN, that's your breaking point?
Chloe can't have a damnation arc, because no one is even disappointed in Chloe having failed.
Because with the way the narrative treated it, no one was surprised she failed. Like they all EXPECTED it to happen, that's how much they straight up did not care she did it.
And what kind of satisfaction is someone supposed to get from a story like that?
The sad part about post-S4 ChloĂš is that it can make narrative sense: first there's the Miracle Queen screw up that, once she realizes what she did, makes her want to just leave the city and go to New York where nobody knows her, then her way out is snuffed out as a side effect of the same event that triggered Miracle Queen, then, while she's still reeling, her mom has her sister come in as an apparent replacement... Her life got completely upended, her lashing out at everyone and acting like a stupider version of her old bullying self while Hawk Moth and Lila manipulate her is actually good writing.
It's so close to being good writing if this was treated as intentional and tragic but no they hammer in how she's just dumb and evil

Call me homophobic, but I don't actually think it's great representation to stick a complex, dynamic, newly-realized bisexual character permanently with a flat, boring, underdeveloped love interest just because that was the first guy who showed interest.
#in my hater era#like what you like#but goddamn#the argument that this is somehow outstanding queer representation is baffling#they have had 13 episodes to DO something with this character and they have chosen not to#no development anywhere#even though they literally brought him back so there is built-in background ripe for the picking#and yet#anti bucktommy#anti tommy kinard#the saddest part is#i don't even hate him#he's not important enough to hate#there is just absolutely nothing to him#and that's sad because whether or not he was intended to be long-term or endgame#the writers are better than this and the character SHOULD have SOME development#like why are we all swooning over 911 shoehorning in a returning character to tell a bi buck story#but treating that character like the most expendable love interest in history#i don't like him but actually i think queer characters#and especially ones who are part of such a major later-in-life bisexual realization storyline for a beloved main#deserve a little more respect than what 911 has been giving him#anyway#might delete later i don't know#also i need to stop looking at the 911 subreddit#worst takes i've ever seen that place is a cesspool

And no beta or edits. I write these in one go and hope for the best lmao.
*------------------*
Dream watches as the bear walks through the stream. looking at the water and following movements Dream can't see.
The bear eventually gets to some mysterious perfect spot and stays put. it opens its mouth and waits.
For a moment. nothing happens.
Then the fish start to jump and rush and one ends right in the bear's mouth. The bear bites down and starts eating.
It is fascinating.
Nature in motion.
Dream continues to lay right there on top of the branches as he watches the bear continue hunting and eating. at ease with what it does and who it is.
His phone ringing ruins the silence and Dream curses as he grabs his phone quickly checking who is calling now. He sighs at the sight of the caller ID and answers it "Hey Core."
The child, is core still a child?, sounds frantic "Dream? Where have you been!?"
Drema hums as he leans against the tree, watching the wildlife again. Good to see the bear has dismissed the noise he made and it went about its day again "out and about. learning stuff."
core sighs "Dream... the people here need you and-"
Dream hums "No they don't. They can do their chores and tasks themselves. I told you and all of them this before." he is not going to fall into the same trap as always. cutting himself apart to please others. He needs to figure himself out first.
Core sighs loudly again "Dream... If you like it our not. You are still the guardian of positivity to them! They are nervous and you can relax them."
Dream sighs annoyed himself "No Core. I can't. Or at least, i don't want that role anymore. Correction. I never should ahve had that role. I already told you that what i did before was a mistake." he had explained this so many times already. Explained that he shouldn't have tried to stop what Nightamre had been doing.
Yet no one understood!
They kept demanding him to keep doing what he had been doing before.
It is exhausting.
Dream sighs loudly and cuts off whatever Core is saying "I am not coming back to the omega timeline. Let it rest Core and move on. That is what i am doing." and he hangs up the phone. He leans against the tree and calls the number he knows by soul.
one ring later and "Dream! How is your break going? Seen any cool things?" Blue sounds excited.
Dream smiles as he leans against the tree already feeling relaxed. Just hearing his friend and hearing him respect what dream wanted makes everything right. The need to complain disappears and he focuses on the good "Yeah it is pretty cool. I am in a large forest. Saw a bear catch a fish with its mouth." the bear moves towards the side to eat some of the fish it caught.
Blue groans "lucky!! I am stuck in another reset. Kid got stuck somewhere in hotland and my bro and I are trying to figure out a way to hel them progress quicker."
Dream chuckles "You and your brother gave up on acting as if you don't notice the save, loads and resets?"
Blue hums "Well... yeah! I know it is a large risk and a big show of trust... but my brother explained to me that knowing I was there for him? With him in the resets and that i truly understood how it felt? He said it gave him peace and hope. that he felt less alone. And that got me thinking... Maybe... maybe Chara would feel better if they knew they weren't alone? That they didn't need to figure it all out alone? Papy had been unsure but he ended up deciding to trust my opinion and decision..."
Dream hums and nods "how did that go?"
Blue is silent for a moment before answering "Well... we dropped hints first and tried to ease them into the idea... then they ended up having a panic attack and apologising over and over again. We just sat down with them and we spoke it all out. they ended up sleeping over at our place for a while and would ask us everything about how we experienced it. So... I think it helped... thanks by the way."
Dream blinks and laughs "Why thank me?"
Dream can hear the smile in Blue's voice "Because you gave me the idea of it all! You were the one to trust me and share your worries with me. and once you shared those pains you felt better. You explained how the powers and responsiblity got too much and painful... That is when i realised. If you, an actual adult and god already felt like that... how would a child feel with so much power and responsibility but no guidance?" Blue is silent for a moment before he speaks "I know we aren't... we arent suposed to mess with the past or what happened or the anomaly but... How can there be any change if we don't try? Be it for the better or worse? At least we won't be stuck in the same loop anymore."
a moment of silence and Drema speaks quietly "What if they end up deciding to use this for bad stuff? To betray that trust and beleive?" what if blue gets hurt?
Blue hums "That is their choice. My choice was to be willing to trust and help. To beleive in the better and do waht i needed to do to take a step in the right direction."
Dream stares down before chuckling "You are truly one of the few between all of us who is sane and has healthy mental health."
Blue laughs "I have struggles too Dream. everyone has! we all do waht we can to cope. talking about struggles... did something happen?"
Blue is too damn smart and knows him too damn well.
Dream sighs "Smething did but... I honestly don't want to talk about it." he chuckles and rubs his new outfit. a more neutral grey with just a few yellow accents "You already need to listen so much to my problems. I want to be there for you too!"
Blue hums unhappily "dream."
Dream sighs and folds immediantly "just... Core calling again."
an even unhappier hum "We need to get you a new cross-multiverse phone. with a new number that Core doesn't know."
Drema can't help but laugh "maybe we can go shopping later? When your loop calms down a bit?"
Blue cheers "Yes! That sounds great! Oh! Did you want to come over for dinner? Chara is going to be friends with alphys and stuff which leaves me free early!"
Dream smiles "gladly. be there in a bit!" blue replies with his own goodbye and Dream hangs up. feeling much lighter and better than before. he opens a portal and makes the multiverse jump.
--
dinner is amazing and Dream takes some time to catch up wiht both Stretch and Blue. enjoying hearing more about the updates about their universe and how tlaking with Chara has helped them all a lot!
Dream is just happy with Blue is getting closer to the happy ending he deserves. To finally be free and explore the surface world he longs for so badly. Dream is also happy that Stretch seems to be doing better mentally. Dream may not be close with Stretch like with Blue but he still likes the other skeleton! Stretch is nice and can be a true sweetheart. Stretch just has to battle depression and hopelessness at the same time.
Blue once asked Dream if he could heal that for Stretch. a desperate plea from a worried brother. Drema had tried but he couldn't. He had once again remembered that it have been the purple apples that could heal mental illnesses. and he did not have a connection to those. Dream never told Blue that and just told him that Dream could only heal the physical body. That mental health was something that needed other and special care and support of loved ones.
Etiher way. it is great to see both feeling better and happier!
They relax and enjoy their time when Dream's phone rings again.
Stretch shoots it a curious look "I thought you muted that?"
Dream groans and nods "i did." he always does. one check later and a frown "Core again."
Blue sighs and steals his phone. he answers it and speaks right away "One. It is rude to call people at dinner time. two. Learn to take no. three. Stop, you are starting to appear obsessed. solve your own problems. It isn't Dreams issue." and hangs up again before handing it back.
Dream stares dumbfounded but Stretch just chuckles "Careful Blue. YOur protective side is showing."
Blue huffs but doesn't appear embarresed at all "Well! They should learn to take no and solve their own problems instead of trying to make it Dream's issue!"
Dream rubs his cheek "I am not much better... I keep asking you for your help..."
Blue looks at him and shakes his skull "Dream that is different. You ask for help. You accept if I am busy. Core demands help and doesn't accept a no." Blue smiles "See the difference?"
Dream feels himself relax again as he happily takes another bite. He enver needed food but it is nice.
a whistle "impressive."
Drema turns quickly and stares "Reaper."
Reaper grins and waves "Hey Dream. Blue and..." he needs a moment "Stretch right?"
Stretch looks a tBlue.
Blue shrugs at his brother "aparently I, or we for that matter, don't know how to not mess with things and cause alternative worlds. it is a long story. also. Don't touch reaper. everything reaper touches dies."
Reaper nods "it is why i float. Anyway. I had a moment and figured i should check in on the whole god thing and had to tell you guys soemthing but well... dinner." he waves at the table and grins "I didn't mean to be rude but..."
Stretch shrugs as he continues eating "I don't mind. talk god stuff. I am gonna keep eating."
Blue smiles at Reaper "I agree! You can just tell us now.. want a plate?" he waves at the dinner served.
Reaper chuckles and waves it off "I don't need food."
Blue huffs "neither does Dream but it is still a nice experience!"
Dream nods as he eats another bite "very nice. also. Blue and Stretch with all the timeloops are good cooks." Blue is already getting a plate and fork ready for the other skeleton.
Reaper blinks but takes the plate thankfully and carefully. he joins in and hums happily "It is great." and continues eating.
It is nice. a little strange but nice. Dream hasn't felt this relaxed and happy in a long time.
Reaper eats antoher bite before starting to speak "Anyway. I came with a mission." he eats antoher bite.
Dream nods and knows where this is going "Is this about... my job?"
Reaper nods as he eats antoher bite "Pretty much. Got any idea on what you want to focus on as domain yet?"
Dream sighs and shakes his skull "I... I hadn't... I had... wanted to wait with picking... until i foudn Nightmare and could talk things out first." he had wanted to pick soemthing together with his twin. make sure they still matched...
Reaper blinks but grins "you dont need to worry! you two are twins after all. if one of you picks a domain the other will automatically lean towards something that matches." he shrugs "god and twin magic stuff."
Dream blinks and feels a bit better. Their magic will always match?! That is great! That is fantastic and-
No.
Dream shakes his skull "Then I really don't want to decide without him!"
Reaper looks confused "But you will match anyway?"
Dream feels himself shake "Like with positivity and negativity?! No! I am not going to pick anything that can cause that kind of mess and split again!" He isn't going to do that to nightmare again!
Wait...
What if he can pick something that is the negative of the match? That would mean Ngihtmare immediantly gets the positive side right? But it hardly ever has only one opposite! Happiness can be the opposite of both sadness and angry to just give an example!
Or people often say love and hate are opposites but then people say it is love and indifference!
There are too many options and he isn't going to do it!
Reaper frowns "Dream. You can't keep going around without somekind of purpose. You are already heavily leaning on Blue as it is."
Dream looks away embarresed while Blue just frowns "Wait how do you know that?"
Reaper raises a brow "Because you are starting to get a boon."
Blue blinks while Stretch frowns "A boon?"
Reaper nods "Yeah. Gods can give boons to mortals who helped them. The more help and support given generally the stronger the boon. Normally these are given on purpose but well... with Dream's magic slightly all over the place." he just waves in their direction.
Blue frowns "what happens if i get one of these?"
Reaper hums "it depends on the god, the boon and the person. YOu could just be kinda like a workshipper if you get a tiny one. High priest kinda deal is also possible. But... with how involved you are with helping Dream? Probably an acolyte. Very strong powers... and pretty much automatically an outcode if not you just surpass that straight to something between mortal and demigod. Acolytes are powerful blue."
Dream shoots blue an anxious look before staring at Reaper "How do i stop that?!"
Reaper shrugs "Now you know about it? And you know you could do it? It is less liekly you will accidentally do it. especially if you don't want to. Boons are suposed to be a thank you kinda deal after all."
Stretch shares a nervous look with Blue but blue pats his hand "I am okay bro." Blue looks at Dream anxious "Dream... You know I love helping you. Really! But... i don't want to be an acolyte or any boon okay? I am just happy to be able to be friends."
Dream grbas his shoulders and stares at him "Blue. I promise and swear! I will never actively give you one unless you ask me okay? And I will try my hardest and best to never accidentally give you one okay?"
He wills himself, his soul, and magic to get the message. Blue doesn't want a boon. Blue doens't want a title. Dream doesn't want to give Blue either of these. Dream does not want to force either a boon or title on blue.
Reaper puts his plate away and floats at a distance "Sorry for the whole... bad news situation. I just figured... fi you are going to keep dodging picking a domain you need to understand this possibility..." he waits a moment before his phone gives a ding. he frowns at it "Work demands me again. Give it some thought. think about your domain and keep an eye on yourself." and Reaper disappears as if he was never there.
Blue frowns at where Reaper left and gives him a reassuraning smile "Hey. If you don't want to give me one you won't give me one. I trust you to not do it on purpose. And we will just make sure I stay in my own universe more! Not tempt fate!"
Dream frowns as he rubs his arm "Maybe i just need to pick a domain... but i don't want to accidentally force nightmare into a role he doesn't want..." it wouldn't be fair.
Blue frowns but Stretch speaks up "makes sense. fuck knows i would never have willingly picked Blue to also rememebr the resets."
Blue shoots him a look but Dream looks a thim confused "But i thoguth it was helping you?"
Stretch nods "It is. it is nice to have his support and everything" he smiles a tblue sadly befor elooking down "But it is a lot. the resets are a lot. i didn't... i didn't want to force him to deal with that." he shoots blue a look "I didn't want to force you to experience the same thing that i saw as hell. I didn't want to do that to you."
Blue frowns and goes to his brother to give him a hug. Dream relaxes and smiles a bit. because Stretch understands. Stretch understands why Dream can't make this choice just yet. Blue understands as well and... and trusts him.
Dream nods to himself and focuses. He doesn't want to give blue a title or boon. He wants blue to just remain his best friend. he wants blue to get the choice. He wants blue to get his chance to pick his future. He wants Nightmare to get his chance to pick his future.
To make their own paths.
To progress and grow in the way they want.
Dream smiles at the two brothers "Thank you two. for being my friends. real friends." he doesn't have many. which makes the two all the more special. and if they want to remain exactly as they are then Dream wants them to stay the way they are. because that truly gives them the chance to be and become who they want to be. instead of being what Dream wants.
Dream just hopes this will work. Because he also wants a chance to figure out who he truly is. And who he wants to be and what he wants. a chance to change and be. a chance to try and grow as a person.
Maybe that is all he ever really wanted.
*------------------*
Meanwhile Nightmare already figured his own domain out and is working on it. Also. No one tell Dream he already picked one. it just isn't as obvious. after all... Blue did mention that Dream helped him find a way to progress and move forwards :3

#utmv#realageau#dream sans#blue sans#swap sans#swap papyrus#stretch papyrus#core frisk#I once again did not have a drabble wiht the baby#It is a crime#But good news! Dream also already picked his domain of progression! He just isn't aware of it himself#It is okay. he will figure it out eventually :3#progression is also part of character growth and development. and dream needs this freedom to form himself.#by giving him this domain he also gets to be and change as he grows and time passes. Dream will no longer be stuck in the 'perfect' role#anymore. He will get to be selfish and possessive. he will get to make mistakes. he gets to be annoying and weak.#He just gets to be a person now. instead of being stuck as some symbol of pure goodness and innocence and perfection.#Which i can only imagine will get sufacating quickly.#Dream also went through a lot of trauma and this? This is his chance to heal and be who he wants to be.#Not that he realises it quite yet.#He thinks he doesn't have a domain. Not realising his very domain now gives him the freedom he craves and needs!#I hope that all makes sense... I tried my best hihi

so I was digging through the Vast Legally Grey Junkyards of the Internet in search of better quality footage from AoU for my edits, specifically the scene with the CA FASCIST grafitti in Sokoviaâwhich I unfortunately didn't find, but what I DID find was a bunch of deleted/expanded scenes that I didn't know/didn't care enough to pay attention to before. Which is fine. Most of it is techno babble and rushed plot setup. However. This stupid-ass ten second clip makes me literally insane. It makes me. Want to kill and maim and chew on the bars of my enclosure. And not in the sense that the contents make me oh-so-emotional, but because the potential of them could. Because what do you mean.
What do you mean those four and a half lines were cut for pacing/time when it's a ten second difference and the rest of the scene is in the film anyway. What do you mean you cut it because it didn't fit the narrative. It's literally couched in two minutes of plot it could've been so easy to slip it in there. A passing reference that would add at least a smidgen of depth to both the (already fucking incomprehensible) plot + politics of the antagonists, and to one of the main fucking characters. Like you were SO close what do you mean you cut every feeble attempt that was made to scratch the surface of Steve's character outside the whole nightmare scene we're supposed to feel so bad about what do you MEAN.
The fact that this minimal exchangeâpaired with that graffiti scene where Steve is confronted with the actual legacy of Captain America and what he's come to mean to people around the world and then quite physically discards the identity + him still circling back to the mantle at the end of the film anyway because he doesn't know how to do or be anything else, feels like he's too changed for this idea of a normal life that stems from before the war and the ice and doesn't know how to live without carrying that, without being useful in this one specific wayâhas more meat on its bones in the whole lead up to Civil War and ultimately Endgame than half of this movie's sledgehammer-over-the-head lines about home and family with Barton's kids laughing in the background or whatever like some fucked up C list hallmark movie is downright infuriating to me because like. You clearly thought about it. It passed through your head. You wrote some version of it into the scene. You shot it and edited it and watched it a few times and then you went "nah off it goes to the cutting room floor, we have enough of that. Add those seven and a half seconds to the 20-minute long, entirely CGI Hulk sequence, that we need more of. Surely that will fix the pacing issue".
Side note: this is me not even getting into the fact that, at this point in the franchise, this would have been one of the few lines we'd get of Maria actually saying something or interacting with anyone in a way that is even marginally removed (which this barely is) from simply delivering plot information. This is the only time we kinda get her view on something or even an inkling that she used to be a goddamn intelligence agent. And how that history informs her view of the situation and how it could possibly clash with Steve's own. And that woman is in every fucking movie. (Not to mention the fact that the two of them were just in a movie together, for Christ's sake, and going through something together you could pretty fairly characterize as traumatic and bond-inspiring to bootâand in AoU we can barely tell they even know each other. I mean the bar is so low and they still managed to limbo right under it.)
#listen I know there's a thousand and one technical reasons why it might've been cut but honestly truly frankly I don't give them the benefi#of the doubt that that was the case.#why am I yelling about this again? YOUR GUESS IS AS GOOD AS MINE#just never fails to surprise me all over again how little effort was actually put into Steve's character development in some of these#that is ultimately supposed to be the meat behind all of those ânow you should feel for this character look ain't he sad!" scenes#but seeing as how we get nothing the rest of the time those just do not fucking land. and it extends all the way to his fumbed ass ending#obv it's not just steve it's 90% of their characters but I can only yell about so much at a time#and I really don't wanna go off on a full anti MCU rant like who's got the time or energy and also what is the point lol who cares#anyway this is entirely incoherent and I'm not saying anything new but I just needed to say fuck OFF joss whedon jesus christ#this movie could've been decent it was literally the best positioned in the series to be decent. and yet#delete later#max.txt#age of ultron#steve rogers

I know I've been on about this for a while now and I'm being a hater but you're telling me SydCarmy was "always meant to be platonic" even though there are two seasons of writing making use of tried-and-true explicitly romantic tropes, themes and writing signals, and SydLuca is going to be romantic because...he was nice to her on screen for a few minutes?
I don't even care if people ship SydLuca, or if they just prefer it, but you can't honestly tell me that you believe Carmy was always meant to be a friend but Luca is an obvious love interest.
Just because Syd and Carmy haven't kissed or confessed their love to each other doesn't mean that isn't very obviously the direction this show is going. The Bear has already shown you who is endgame. It has shown you every episode of the show so far.
Honestly I really don't think The Bear fanbase understands this show or cares about these characters or the story being told here, which is unfortunate because this show is shockingly well-written in comparison to most shows right now, and we should be so grateful for it but all we're doing is complaining that the writers led us on by not making a ship canon fast enough. It's just. Sad.
#The Bear#SydCarmy#I was like a casual fan of this show two days ago#and now seeing how little respect this show gets from it's fanbase I'm losing my mind#I mean I shipped SydCarmy before anyway but now it means so much to me#it means so much to see such a realistic and purposefully well paced romance take place#so many shows portray romantic relationships and their beginnings in ways that just don't really happen in real life#and this show very purposefully said no. These are characters who are strangers. who are working together. Who are in a tense environment#and each of them has problems - one of them the type of problems that makes developing new relationships pretty difficult#these two would not get together right away. It would take a long time. And there would be ups and downs.#And even when that's the case. Even if when it takes a long time and doesn't go smoothly and is hard -#it can still be beautiful. It can still be romantic. It can still happen and here's how#and I'm just so inspired genuinely. It is so difficult to write romance without being cliche and so difficult to write it in a way that#could actually happen in real life and I really do hope I can write something half as good some day#and then to know so many people have no appreciation for it at all#because they prefer the shows that have characters make eye contact a few times and then confess their love for each other like#it's just fucking sad. So sad that so few people have any appreciation for good writing especially the difficult of romance writing#like I really just don't even know what to tell you. In real life these two would not have confessed to each other yet. They would not have#kissed yet. They would not have even realized they have feelings for each other yet because those feelings would still be developing#and I also want to point out that given the disparity in power between Syd and Carmy in season 1 it wouldn't have been healthy for them to#get together much sooner. He was her boss. He was also her idol. Before they can even get together that needs to be balanced out.#And then on top of that don't you see the value in Carmy realizing the dream girl he's romanticized in his head - Claire - isn't actually#what he wants? Don't you see the beauty in him being disillusioned from that? And realizing that Syd is what he wants?#Don't you see the beauty in Syd having an idealized vision of what Carmy The Great Chef is like realizing she was wrong and that he's human#and flawed and then realizing - she loves him anyway? She loves him more for not being on a pedestal and for having his flaws?#Are you telling me that even thinking about this doesn't move you? Doesn't make your heart ache a little?#And again - ship and let ship - but what is Luca? What is Luca if not just what she was hoping Carmy would be when she wen to The Beef?#What is he if not just another man who she has not seen under pressure yet? Not seen reliving trauma yet? Not been her boss yet?#It's easy to look at him and think he's better than Carmy - and that's the point. That's the point The Bear is making.#It is easy to want someone you don't know. It's hard to want to someone you do know. But that's what love requires and that's the point
