EXPECTED? it's corny. seriously. they need to find new things to do, for sure." perhaps that was the best way to put things, because... yes, ellie didn't like that in the slightest. why, one could ask? it reminded her of how bad the weather had been that night and of all that had happened and no, she would never be able to forget it. was she better now? yes, thanks to kassie and thanks to will and now thanks to beth - she was doing much better. she felt like herself again and.. like she could leave what had happened in the past and not look back and to just start over. could she? could she? right now, she didn't know and she didn't know what to think about any of this. finally, after what felt like a whole life time, it was done. garrett was dead and his organization was left in ashes. finally, he could return to the only place he had ever felt was his home, return to the people who at one point had cared about him, had rallied for him even when he didn't deserve it. he had never deserved any of it, their love, their loyalty, their dedication. now if you're leaving, get the fuck out and never come back. kassy's words still rung in his mind. had been all he could think about every second he drove back to town. she was probably right, that he should never show his face her again after the pain he caused and for a while there he didn't think he ever would. but then he would remember what octavia said to him... and nick, how desperate his brother was to bring him home.
his hands flexed at his sides before he tucked them into his jean pockets after he parked along the road near the beach. he noticed the familiar vehicles of his friends and slowly headed down towards the water where all the commotion was happening. his honey eyes first search out octavia, spotting her with kassy and most of the group, how she clung to the blonde, trinity if he recalled, how she nuzzled against her. jealousy and heartbreak pierced through him as they kissed but he nearly laughed bitterly to himself. he had no right to feel any sort of way about it, in fact there was a small part of him that was happy for octavia, that she had managed to finally move on.
what he also noticed was that nick was nowhere to be found, at least not with the group. a brow rose as he came down the stone steps towards the beach only to spot nick by the cooler of booze, sipping his drink with a longing look in his eyes. there was a story there and he had a feeling that grant himself was somewhat to blame for it. he had finally been able to breathe a breath of relief when nick and rev had given up but if he was to guess, kassy wasn't too happy nick had left to begin with. his feet crunched in the sand before he came up to stand beside nick, his own longing in his eyes as he too watched the group interact.
"why aren't you with them?" he asked nick who seemed speechless in this moment as he did a double take beside him. grant turned towards nick with a sad, soft smile, raising his hand to touch his shoulder as he gave it a gentle squeeze. "hey brother, it's good to see you..." he said genuinely, any anger he had still held for nick having melted away the moment he saw the man there standing by himself. hell, even before that. grant's anger had always just been his attempt to protect nick, his frustration that if he just went home grant could finally do what he'd left to do. he pulled nick in for a tight hug that lingered a moment, patting his back gently before he released him and stepped back.
grant. the emotion in nicks voice had grant's smile grow, honey eyes shining as he tried to keep from wincing. he had created so much pain here, had hurt nick, had hurt octavia and everyone else. it was why he shook his head as nick then spoke. i think i owe you a pretty substantial apology.. "no brother, i owe you one. i'm sorry... for everything." he thanked nick then briefly as he was handed a drink, "i'm sorry for leaving without telling you, and for what i said... and how i reacted when you found me." he shook his head, gaze avoiding nick for a moment as he glanced back towards the group.
sucking in a pained breath he then brought his attention back to nick, wanting him to see the sincere regret in his eyes. "he's dead," he then said lowly, "i had to go with him, nick... i had to go otherwise he wouldn't've stopped until..." he trailed off, taking a long sip of his beer as he steeled himself. "and i couldn't've just killed him, they would have sent more in his place, it would have sent off a chain reaction--" clearing his throat he looked down at nicks hands, face paling the slightest as that anger smouldered in his eyes. "i made him suffer for what he did to you," he said quietly. "i'm so sorry nick."

" okay, man you're taking too long... i'll see you across the hall in a minute. " nick smirked, goading grant into finishing tying the friggin green tie instead of stalling because the idea of going to the girls' very public prom is a little out of both their comfort zones. nick had never attended one, and although grant didn't go into details, nick got the feeling neither had he. " you think this looks straight? " he asked grant, gesturing to his sleek black tie before glancing down at it again. when grant agreed it did in fact look straight, nick knocked the back of his hand against grant's arm before pulling open the apartment door. " all right, let's do this. "
it feels like forever that they stand outside octavia's door, listening to too many voices buzzing around. it's the only time nick has waited instead of immediately barging into the apartment but he thinks about it doing so until octavia finally opens the door. for a moment even nick's stunned, eyes taking her in. " huh, so you can clean up nicely. " he smirked, chest tightening instantly as her palm collided with the front of his suit. " say something nice, or you don't have to come in. " octavia stated with a scowl.
nick shook his head, " okay, okay, you look beautiful, tavi, gorgeous really. " nick stepped forward into the apartment, pressing a soft kiss to octavia's cheek before, " now where's the gold goddess?" he asked, reaching to ruffle octavia's hair before she quickly dodged under him to greet her date, " kass is just finishing liv's makeup," octavia called to him before smirking up at grant. " you look handsome with a touch of green, " she complimented, happiness filling her features.
nick strolled into the apartment, eyes widening at the destruction with makeup, mirrors, curling irons and clothes everywhere. " kaaaaaassy, " nick called as he neared octavia's room where alec had directed him. it's got better light he'd explained after nick complimented his outfit for prom. nick rested his shoulder against the door frame, mesmerized by the gold of kassy's prom dress and how heavenly it looked against her skin. he lifted his hand to rub just under his mouth, head shaking as, " wheeu, kassy, my my, " he said, finally entering the bedroom as liv got up from her spot, checking herself over in the mirror before exclaiming to kassy it was perfect. " you look it too, " nick smiled as liv thanked him and went off to finish getting ready with the rest of the group.
" damn, kass, you're stunning, now i know why you picked such a good look for me, can't have me draggin' down your beauty. " he said, wandering towards her with his hands stretched out. " so, how does it look? " he asked. obviously, it's fire, i picked it. nicklas couldn't stop his laugh even after she got a questioning look in her eye and he stalled. " what? what's wrong? " he questioned, glancing down at himself as she neared him, closing their distance and making it just a touch harder to breathe with the way that dress clung to her. it's not straight, she commented, adjusting his tie despite the fact nicklas has adjusted it about a hundred times. her hands smoothed over the tie down his torso ensuring there were no imperfections before he felt a soft pat against his chest. " blame grant, i told him it wasn't. "

Dark Side of the Sun 1
~
Since 1980 MTV had played music videos for up and coming artists and while they veered off of that and into reality shows. Slowly but surely, they were going back to music. Thats were the newly built girl group of funhouse sat.
The interviewer of INTO THE MUSIC Helena Cheryl sat rather stiffly on the chair as the rest of us sat on the two couches in front of her. The studio was hot, though it did not seem to bother the studio audience at all. Each person had already picked their favorite in the group, the people scattered with various shirts, scarves and signs with our names or faces. They cheered when their favorite spoke making us giggle or laugh under the hot studio laughs.
We had seemed to gather a certain likability which would make our manager, Thomas, happy. Since the fight at the Sweet trauma concert after party that was greatly exaggerated by the press we were quickly labeled the bad girls club of girl groups. Which had a appeal to certain people but not enough to be successful yet and we had a lot riding on this interview. So far so good.
We were nearing the end of the interview when Helena directed a question from Draven to me. "Well Kay, I have to ask." She said "I know that it was a rocky start to bring these ladies together, but how are you and Damien? Is he upset that you will not be in Sweet Trauma anymore? And how do you respond to the fans reaction that you will be leaving the group?"
I had known this was coming. Since Kassie had outed me to Damien - things went from strained to worse. Normally Damien and I split time between my apartment and his house but since that night we only saw each other in public - for public. Both of our managers saying for now it would be better to stay happy in the public's eye. Xavier was against it citing 'if she wants to leave the group then she leaves him.' Robin did stick up for me saying 'its good to be supportive right now.' Ultimately Damien decided to publicly embrace me but privately we barely spoke to each other. The fans were brutal as well - I got messages I was ruining the group, I was going to fade into nonexistence, that I was just trying to get attention because I haven't done much acting yesterday or that I was a slut who deserved to die. Even as we prepared for our first album it was met with a lot of slack directed at all of you as well.
"Damien has been nothing but supportive- the whole group in fact has been nothing but incredibly supportive and kind." I lied - half lied, Robin and Austin were supportive. "As for the fans, This is just a new chapter in my life and I still love the band but I just want to explore different genres. I hope they can support me in this as well. They supported when I stepped away from the group to act so I hope they can support me in this as well."
"I SUPPORT YOU GIRL!" Someone shouted from the group making the group erupt in giggles. I smiled at the crowd though with the bright lights I was unable to find the person.
"I hope so too." She feigned a frown. She didn't mean it - maybe she was one of those faceless profiles that tweeted I should jump off a bridge too. Her crisp gray eyes turned to you "I have a question from our audience about you." You smiled at her. "Is this a reaction because you and Edward can no longer be a duet? Given the situation." She looked up from her card to you clearly enjoying stirring the pot.
You and Edward were public in your relationship - or at least you were. After the release of Always on Time, a scandal rocked your relationship. You were visiting your father in Hawaii while Edward stayed home. He claimed it was William's idea to go to the bar - there he got very drunk and was photographed with his tongue down some influencers throat and his hand glued to her ass. The photos were blurry but you knew it was him and so did his brothers very fanatic fans - who were quick to prove it after it was speculated to be Harry cheating on Kitty. But no it was you that was left humiliated in Hawaii while your father chimed in his unwanted opinion.
'Be professional. be professional.' My voice chimed in your head as you sighed thinking of an answer. You knew this woman was enjoying it, the clips that would come from this answer and make this little show get more popular just from your relationship status. Fucking Edward. "This is because like, Kay I want to explore different options. Ed does a certain thing and I want to be more then that so... Why not do that with a group?" You gave her a fake smile that matched her own.

"She was a right cunt, huh?" Draven said as we were lead out the studio and back to the house we all now shared up in the Hollywood hills. "She was enjoying making us uncomfortable. and bringing up Ed like that?" She shook her head and she lit up a cigarette offering everyone one before throwing it back on the coffee table "Fucking bitch." Various makeup artists and dressers filed into the house setting up here and there.
We had exactly 4 hours to get ready for the MTV music awards. unfortunately for us, since Kassie outed me we were forced to do everything in sort of a rush. We moved in together, started writing and recording songs and filmed two music videos in 3 months. We were set to preform our first song together as a group towards the end of the awards as well as being nominated with our previous groups or duos.
At first I didn't even want to go but Thomas explained having a big duet like this would be nothing short of amazing and it wouldn't hurt to make more connections. As solo artist we had a few songs that put us on the map but it wouldn't hurt to have more connections, according to him.

“You look handsome.” I said walking out of the room fully dressed any ready for the night. Damien’s ice blue eyes looked over me coldly before his hands settled on the vodka Katya kept on the bar. He finished the shot he poured himself then poured another. All the while ignoring me.
“Listen I know your still upset but it’s been months Damien. I thought you’d be happy for me! You know I wanted to do other things!” I said as he threw back another shot then poured himself another. I attempted to grab the bottle but he gripped it harder and not wanting to get the liquid on either of us I gave up. “Can you not drink so much? I’d rather you not make a fool out of yourself or anyone else there. You’re nominated for a lot - no need for people to see you stumble like an idiot on stage.” He took another shot and poured yet another.
“I’ll need this to get threw the night with you.” He chuckled to himself. “Makes you more tolerable and I’m forced to be in this lie with you so” he gave me a hard smile “cheers, Hurricane!” He downed another and I grit my teeth.
“Let’s go!” Thomas called from the front door. “Now! Come on!”
Damien stood up swaying a bit. He jerked back when I tried to steady him. “I’m fine.” He said moving past me to the limo waiting outside. I spied Robin from the door and he shook his head. Robin had offered to take me to the awards show to avoid this exact thing. Damien was becoming more and more clear in his distain for this arrangement and I did not need that coming out now. I gave him a small smile and moved to get my purse.
His eyes settled on you, you quickly packing your purse. Since we were so busy and this Edward situation hit you by surprise you didn’t really have time to look for a suitable replacement for the awards show. Xavier asked to be your date and you agreed. After all, he was hot - was a rock star and you’d be lying if you didn’t say he was your favorite in Damien’s group. Besides Robin but he didn’t ask you and you weren’t going approach him first.
“Ready?” Xavier asked as you approached him. “God, you really are gorgeous.” You blushed and started to the limo. Xavier quickly followed his hand possessively on your arm. Pulling you back before you can get into the limo. “Just know, I heard that asshole is going to be there. If he tries any of that dumb shit just say the word and I’ll handle him.” You looked at him puzzled. What did he mean? Was he going to beat him? You heard rumors about Xavier from me and Damien but never saw him get violent for yourself. Though after a show one day you saw his knuckles were bloodied when he lit your cigarette and when you asked about it all he said was ‘don’t worry about it.’

The ride to the awards show was uneventful but as soon as we got there Damien and I went to move out of the limo first.
“Are you to drunk to walk it?” I asked bitterly. He rolled his eyes.
“No, darling,” his tone dropped in sarcasm. “I am ready to play the lying game. Not as good as you though.”
“Damien.” Robin’s deep voice rang through the limo as a warning. Tatiana giggled.
“It’s fine.” I said trying to calm myself down. I plastered on a smile as we moved out the car. Flashes of light, once disorienting was routine now. Damien took my hand in his and with smiles we walked down the carpet.
You were third to leave the limo and of course the first person you see was Edward as though it was planned. He stood smiling with his brother, talking to some man with a big microphone thrown into there faces.
“Maybe you should just go inside?” Robin whispered as he helped Draven out of the car. He had agreed to take Draven, though the Australian was completely uninterested in him romantically and he seemed the same about her. “Don’t give theses people any of the drama they want.”
But as he said that Ed’s green eyes locked with yours. His long hair combed back and his tattoos visible as he shifted his body towards you. He wanted the drama because he wanted you to speak to him. After you refused just telling him your done and then blocking him. You hated the small smirk that overcame his lips and then the cameras pointed at you.
“Adi! Adi! Over here! ARE YOU TWO SEPERATED? How do you feel that he cheated ? Ed where is your date?!” Was the things you heard shouted at you.

He was back. Sitting there moping like a broody teenager. Or perhaps, he just hated his life with the way he watched the kids play in front of him. He did not hold a loaf of bread in his hands anymore and maybe that is why he felt so mopey. His hands were clasped together in front of him as he leaned his elbows on his knees. His face was a blank slate of ivory skin and his lips pursed like he was sucking a lemon. Did he always look like that? When the sun was shining; giving a break from the rain this week just for today most people would be out and about the town. Window shopping and visiting yummy bakeries or coffee shops for goodies, people taking a walk with their dogs, or a jog down the sidewalk while the gentle breeze cooled their skin. The weather was lovely in its changing seasons as the first few oranges and yellow leaves were littering the sidewalks as people strolled past. But here he was sitting there with a cloud of gray over his head; damn near visible to anyone who cared to look. Or had the ability to. And thus Kassie found herself standing just across the street from the open public park taking notice of the one person she probably shouldn’t have paid much attention to.
But her feet hurt from wandering the streets all day in search of a job; not that she needed one, it was more to pass the time and feel like a normal human being for once instead of sitting her ass on the sofa watching TV all day. She wanted one, but she didn’t need one. Corinthian’s promise of never needing to worry about money was true with how the bills always seemed to be paid in advance and food in the fridge at all times making her wonder where he is getting the money or the time to stock things. Hell, even her bank account continued to be filled from an unknown source every month, giving her the ability to spoil herself if she wanted to; go buy some new clothes, buy herself a decent car, go get her nails or hair done. Whatever the hell she wanted; there was enough now saved that she could even leave New York if she wanted to. Something inside of her wanted to. New York had no more purpose to her than the job she’d left behind. But she did not want to leave Corinthian; they had a good thing going. A bit complex but good. So she’d occupied her time with walking the streets and chatting people up instead, just like today when she’d run into a coffee shop for her usual iced coffee and then found herself inside of a bookstore she’d never even realized was there; spending a good half hour standing there talking with one of the workers as she browsed their options on literature. It surprised her how genuine some people could be after months of knowing those who wanted nothing but to see her tits.
But then, as she headed away from the shops; she saw him sitting there all alone and she couldn’t help but pause and admire, or stare like some weirdo from across the street debating on whether or not she should approach. Their last encounter was an odd one and left much to be desired but at the same time; Kassie thought back to those brooding stares and wondered if perhaps he was in need of company despite it all. Something in his eyes made her feel as if there was a hint of loneliness behind them even when his approach was rather cold at first; she’d like to think he’d warmed up to her. So she sucked it up; clutching the new book she’d just bought from the bookshop in town in one hand and her coffee in the other before she started putting one foot in front of the other; propelling herself across the street before she second-guessed herself and turned back, altogether. The woman did not make her way to him immediately, though. Unsure of how to approach it without being awkward about it. Instead, her hazel eyes scanned the surroundings trying to find something that she could use as an excuse to go over to him. A snack cart was stationed in the shade beneath a large tree; colorful with varieties of options to choose from and she was inwardly fist pumping the air; perhaps she could play a smooth move by offering him some snackery to ease his broody self. What was the saying again? The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, right?
She’d made quick work of buying a packet of peanut M&M’s and a tub of blue and pink cotton candy from the vendor; hoping that this was enough to at least spark a conversation with the dark and brooding man. She struggled to juggle her items as she carried her book, the snacks, and her drink while she veered towards the bench where the man sat unmoving staring down at his shoes with a pinched expression on his face as if his thoughts were troubling him. He looked so pitiful she almost wanted to cry with him. His face reflected the confusion and frustration that she’d been feeling for the past few months while being cooped up without a support system to back her up. Her shoes scraped against the grass as she went from concrete to lawn and moments later her butt planted itself onto the familiar wooden bench making it creak at her weight. Corinthian always kept telling her to make more friends, albeit spoken in a cocky manner fit to get that know it all smirk smacked right off his face, and go live a little instead of moping in the apartment so much since she’d lost her job; she’d hope he’d be proud to hear she was at least trying.
“I feel like there is a pattern here.” her voice was soft but not unpleasant as she settled her things onto the bench between them; daring to look over at him to see he was giving her a side eye as an acknowledgment of her present.
When he didn’t say anything to her she decided to press on “No birds today I see.” still no answer so she grabbed the tub of cotton candy and popped the lid.
She carefully tore a tuft of pink from the fluff in the plastic container before placing it on her tongue; sighing as the sugary cotton melted instantly on her tongue. “God, I can’t remember the last time I had cotton candy, so good!” she groaned lightly as she dug another pinch from the container and held it out towards the man with a small smile and playful expression
“Want some?” his blue eyes fell to the offered cotton ball in between her fingers and he looked at it as if it offended him making Kassie put effort into not laughing at the look that crossed the man’s face as his lips finally parted to reply with a despondent
“No, thank you.”
“Oh, so he does speak!” Kassie went with it and placed the candy into her mouth again. “I was starting to think I might have imagined our earlier conversation; I tend to do that a lot. Daydreaming and all. Hardly much to do nowadays now that I don’t have a job.” she mused looking across at the people enjoying the day
“You talk too much.” anyone else would be offended at the blunt insult but Kassie merely chortled and grabbed her iced coffee to take a sip; subconscious now as she realized the man was watching her the entire time.
“And you don’t talk half as much. Would it kill you to be friendly for once?” Kassie raised a brow as she wrapped her lips around her straw and sipped idly at the half-melted concoction in her cup.
“I do not know you.”
“Doesn’t mean you can’t learn to.” she quipped back before setting her things to the side and leaning closer to the man, holding her palm out. “Let’s start with a simple introduction. That could help, right? I’m Kassie. Nice to meet you.”
The pale eyes fell to her outstretched hand but he did not reply nor did he take the offered hand. Stubborn as always, Kassie merely wiggled her fingers at him as if silently daring him to refuse or daring him to accept. Whichever one it was, her satisfaction could not be hidden even if she tried when -with much reluctance, the stranger unclasped his hands and reached over to place his hand in hers. Giving it a firm squeeze in greeting and causing Kassie to smile.
“This is the part where you introduce yourself by name.” the woman stated giving him a pointed but playful look.
He looked like a scolded child who didn’t want to admit he was wrong. “I…I am Morpheus.”
“Morpheus huh? That’s…” she tilted her head, her hair that was placed into a messy side braid falling over her shoulder and stray locks fluttering in the light breeze casting tiny shadows along her olive skin as she gazed over at him with a curious look.
“That’s a very strong name Morpheus, very unique.” she finally allowed his hand to slip from hers. “I like it. It reminds me of something from Greek mythology.”
At the compliment of his name the man, Morpheus, studied her with a bit of new light sparking in the depths of his blue eyes. “You do not seem the kind to enjoy folklore.”
Kassie’s face twisted in surprise. “Folklore? Seriously?! Mythology isn’t folklore. Not for the people that used to live before this generation. Mythology isn’t just fantasy. The gods and goddesses written in history were deities to the people of the old eras. I’d like to think that there is more to Mythology than the myths people claim aren’t true.”
“You believe there are gods?” Morpheus rested his elbows on his knees once more.
He watched as the woman reached out between them to where a hardcover brown book with golden leathering and design rested on the bench. She grabbed it with careful fingers and rested the book on her lap. Her fingertips tracing the patterns on the cover absently
“I don’t know. I mean, I never considered myself a religious person. But I do believe everyone has their own belief systems in something. If humanity didn’t believe in something; what is the reason for living y’know” she shrugged.
There was silence between them as each fell into their own thoughts. Morpheus surprised the woman when he broke it between them to ask her a question. His gaze never once left the grass beneath his feet as if he could see every single blade under his shoes and he was counting them.
“And what do you believe in, Kassie?”
The way her name rolled off his tongue spoke in that tone, in that voice. Kassie felt something twinge in the inner parts of her being. No, it was not a sexual thing. But it stirred something inside of her that made her feel as if…well as if he was speaking to a different version of herself that she herself hadn’t recognized in a very long time.
Her lips curled up slightly in an almost mournful twitch of her mouth as she avoided his gaze and instead looked down at her book. “I don’t…I don’t know anymore. Most days, it’s all I can do is believe in just myself to get me going. The thought of…putting my faith or hope in something that is out of my control…” she shook her head and laughed a bit as she turned her gaze to him with a bit more of a smile that was forced
“I cannot find anything to believe in other than myself because no one has ever shown me that my trust and faith will not be abused or tossed away.” she finally replied with a breath.
The way he looked at her was a mixture of sadness and understanding. But there was something else in those depths of blue that made Kassie think that there was a pain very kin to her own that was born from betrayal. As if he knew just what she meant and he felt pity for her just as he had felt remorse and pity for himself. The air was too heavy between them so she quickly turned her gaze away, breaking whatever connection they were sharing to instead change the subject by raising the book she had been playing with moments before.
“Are you a reader? There is this bookshop in the town where I found this book at. It’s an old literature piece of a story that I hadn’t read in…god I don’t know how long ago. But, it’s The Raven, by Edgar Allen Poe. He was an American writer who was also a poet, an editor, and a literary critic of all professions. He was born in….1807 - wait no, he was born 1809 in Boston and had this love and passion for all things mystery and the macabre. His writings consisted of things such as poems and short stories; especially those of mystery and macabre genres. This one has a poem in it that’s called The Raven which he’d written that tells of a talking raven’s mysterious visit to a distraught lover, tracing the man’s slow descent into madness and grief after losing his lover Lenor to death.” Kassie held up the book to allow Morpheus to see.
The man watched her with what people may have considered rapt attention. Even though his body was turned away from her his head was not; his eyes definitely were not as he watched the way her expressions would change in the forms of her nose scrunching up when she was thinking and the way the laugh lines long in disuse crinkled at the corner of her eyes that twinkled; looking far greener in the light as it shone down on her. Her hands were wildly exaggerated as she spoke about this particular volume that she held in one hand. She was beautiful in the kind of sense that she herself did not see her own value. It was clear the way she stopped speaking when she finally caught his scrutiny, seemingly turning sheepish as she realized she was rambling.
“Sorry.” she looked away and gripped her book’s edges as she stared ahead.
“I do not know many like you who are passionate about literature and history. It is rare to find someone who does in these times.” Morpheus mused as if a way to apologize for his staring when he realized he’d made her uncomfortable.
“It’s okay. I’m just not used to um…talking about what I like with many strangers.” she laughed lightly brushing away her baby strays from her eyes. “What about you? What’s your favorite author?”
“There have been many that I have known in time. Each has had their lessons in their work as well as their faults.” Morpheus replied in a way as if he was shrugging despite his shoulders not moving an inch.
“That’s cryptic.” Kassie snorted playfully as she grabbed her packet of M&M’s, tearing open the end to grab a brightly colored ball from within its packaging and popping it into her mouth. “Are you enjoying your stay here in New York?”
At Morpheus’s look of perplexity, she gave a knowing smile as she tilted her head at him. “You’re accent. It’s British right? You don’t find people like yourself in these parts of New York so I assumed you were from abroad or something.” she shrugged. “Am I right?” she held out a peanut M&M
Morpheus did not reply at first nor did he take the offered candy. Instead, his expression seemed sullen again as his eyes drifted somewhere over Kassie’s shoulder before he stubbornly looked away without a word. When Kassie went to speak a new voice spoke up from down the path making the dark-haired young woman turn her attention to a figure walking up to them.
“Are my eyes deceiving me? Are you truly taking company with someone besides your pigeons, Dream?” the woman’s voice was soft and filled with warmth; a lilt of joking mingled with her words that matched the pretty smile on her face.
The newcomer was around Kassie’s height. Beautiful with chocolate skin that glowed like dew under the warm sun and equally warm and delighted brown eyes that moved between Morpheus and Kassie. Her hair bounced with every step in tight little black ringlets framing her face and unlike most people around the park, she wore black jeans with a black tank top and black boots. The only color in her outfit was a low-hanging gold chain with a pendant hanging against her chest. When she finally stepped in front of them she’d placed her hands on her hips and tilted her head looking solely at Morpheus now and Kassie found her gaze drifting to the man himself at the same time wondering who this newcomer was. She looked familiar, like the woman she’d seen him with a week prior at this very same park. Was it a girlfriend or just a good friend? Morpheus didn’t seem like the sort to have friends. Gloomy emo boy that he seemed to be.
“I’m sorry, I should introduce myself, shouldn’t I? I’m Kassie.” the woman rose to her feet and held her hand out to the pretty newcomer.
“Ah, you’re the one who met my brother out here earlier, weren’t you? It’s nice to finally meet the girl who’s gotten my brother’s attention; that’s a hard thing to do. You can call me Dee.”
It was not lost on Kassie that the woman’s presence made Morpheus sulk inwardly as he watched them from the corner of his eye. She’d also noticed Dee mentioned the siblingship between them and wondered if one of them was adopted or perhaps very good friends like siblings. Kassie smiled shaking her hand as she nodded towards Morpheus as she spoke.
“He looked like he could use a friend.” she agreed with a small smile
“I do not need friends,” Morpheus muttered from beside the females and Kassie gave him a look.
“Don’t need friends huh? You didn’t seem to mind my conversationalist skills earlier,” she stated with a raised brow
Dee watched with keen eyes much older than her appearance would hint at. Seeing the way Morpheus’s gaze glances toward the mortal at the sound of her teasing voice and those who did not know Dream as she did would have missed the glint of interest in his gaze even if his face did not change expression. To the world around them, he looked like a very unhappy individual in the company of a ray of sunshine. Said ray of sunshine leaned over to nudge one elbow against the male’s arm and said something teasing to him before her eyes turned to Dee’s.
“Right Dee?” she said causing the other to blink at her wondering what she’d just missed.
“Dream, I have some business to attend to elsewhere. I know we were supposed to um..hang out today but I cannot miss this important meeting. Will you be alright on your own?” Dee asked
That was a lie, Morpheus knew right off the bat his sister was playing at something. But he did not protest even when his gaze glared up in displeasure at her brilliant smile. “What kind of business takes you away from your time to spend with family, my dear sister?” he questioned as if challenging her.
Dee raised a brow and crossed her arms over her chest watching as Kassie ate her chocolate candy while she watched the siblings as if watching some sort of drama series on the TV. There was a light of amusement in her eyes as they raced from one sibling to the next.
“Kassie, I’d hate for my brother to be lonely and have made it all this way to see me for nothing. Would you mind keeping him company? Maybe take him sightseeing around town?” Dee ignored her brother causing the male to huff under his breath; the only show of annoyance that he gave to the brush off
The girl pointed a finger at herself in surprise. “Me? I-I don’t think that Morpheus would want any more of my company right now.” she laughed a bit
“Nonesense! I’d bet you if both of us leave right now he will still be sitting here moping.” Dee replied amusement.
Morpheus seemed to have enough of the jokes at his expense because he rose to his feet. His full height towered over the pair of females a moment before giving them a stare that could send chills down one’s spine and then walking off down the sidewalk. Kassie felt a little bad, she didn’t know the dynamic of the odd siblings so for all she knew this was normal. But she knew she didn’t like jokes at her expense and Morpheus didn’t seem to either.
“Take care of him Kassie. He’s an idiot but he’s still my brother.” Dee’s hand rested kindly on the girl’s shoulder
A little laugh escaped the girl as she nodded giving Dee’s hand a understanding squeeze. It was odd to think that despite mere minutes of knowing this woman and her brother Kassie felt as if there was an understanding between them that only came from years of knowing someone.
“Yeah, course I will.” Kassie agreed as she turned her attention to find that Morpheus was standing with his hands in his pockets patiently waiting; watching from the sidelines and the idea that he was waiting for her despite his displeasure warmed Kassie’s heart.
Kassie was not one who made friends easily. Friendships were fickle things and half the time it was one using the gifts or attention of another to gain something from them. It was not always the case. Friendships could be something beautiful and last a lifetime if met by the right person. But Kassie was not one who was gifted with that blessing; so finding people who understood her was a rare feat for her in her life. Sure she’d made ‘friends’ before. People who she’d call a friend to their faces but secretly watch for the inevitable downfall of the telltale signs of deceit they would no doubt slip up. She was used to being taken advantage of and thrown away like garbage afterward. So it was clear that Kassie Sinclair did not find the thought of making friends a priority in her life; toxicity was all she knew. Just look at the man she had living with her. Corinthian was someone she’d known for almost a year but they’d met at a club that was one piece of clothing away from being called a strip club. Right off the bat, she knew Corinthian was danger on two legs. His sex appeal and charm were like a dead giveaway to the smell of money, manipulation, and threat. He was everything that Kassie didn’t need in her life but like a drug addict who knew it was bad for her, she still went in search of more because the high was all she knew.
Morpheus was someone completely different. There was something off-putting about the man, or at least in ways he wanted to seem. His lack of conversationalist skills and the way he did not allow his emotions to show on his face making it hard to read him was something Kassie was not used to. She was good at reading people; she even took pride in seeing the lies before they had the chance to fall from the tip of the tongue. But as Kassie walked beside the man through the streets at dusk; the sun slowly setting in the horizon just enough for the street lights to kick on and the warm glow of shop lights illuminating patches of concrete as you walked by Kassie could not help but feel almost as peace. There was no need to talk and there was no need to fill the air with needless words. The girl could say - if albeit a bit reluctantly - that she had enjoyed the stranger’s company a lot more than she’d have spending time with Corinthian at home.
They did not speak often to each other after Dee had left them to their own devices. No matter how much Kassie had tried to start a conversation Morpheus did not give enough to keep one going. His answers were always short and to the point, if he gave any at all. So she’d stopped trying to talk about meaningless things and instead chose to focus on the surroundings as she walked. She’d point out the little shops along the way and tell of their history. If an architectural piece came into view she’d cling to it and tell Morpheus all she knew. He’d listen. Even when he didn’t seem to be paying attention; she knew he was listening and taking in her words. Hushed and low-pitched as if too afraid to break the atmosphere as the sun sunk low. When most had already retired from a long day of relaxation to their respected homes for a good meal and some television; Kassie found herself walking leisurely beside the man in the black coat without so much as a whisper between them.
But she did not mind. For one, she’d allowed her guard to fall. To allow her mind to stop taking in details as if a threat would emerge amongst the faces they’d pass. Her mind instead replayed the moments that she’d walked in Morpheus’s presence as she’d guided him through New York. Not all the places in town were filled with bustling shops and street vendors; not the parts that she’d taken him to. But she still noticed the way people would veer around or away from him; how they would shrink if they’d crossed his path. She’d noticed how despite his efforts of attempting at being nice to people even in passing it always backfired on him and he was left with that little sliver of whatever gone from his eyes once more until he sulked alongside her in silence. She didn’t like the sulking. Not like it was a pet peeve it was just…well she just didn’t like it on him was all. So, as they’d walked damn near alone with a few handfuls of stragglers on the streets the raven-haired female couldn’t help but find herself leading the man towards a late open cafe shop. Their veranda was homely with comfortable chairs despite it being made of metal and a wooden porch with fair lights twining the poles casting a yellow glow on patrons below who happened to wish to sit outside and enjoy the view.
“Have you ever heard of this myth of who’s your person based off of color?” Kassie asked as they sat facing each other at a far table on the back of the veranda. Her fingers played with the heavy ceramic mug of coffee she’d ordered.
The first stars of night twinkled above them bleeding into darkness and the temperature had dropped a bit making it a little bit chillier now that the sun no longer warmed the day. She had not planned to be out this late and she did not have a jacket; so she was keen to wrap her hands around the heavy mug to feel the warmth bleeding into her palms.
“I do understand.” Morpheus tilted his head.
“Not many people do.” Kassie laughed quietly before looking past the fairy lights to the stars above them. “It’s relatively new. Color can represent a lot of things. Not just describing the tint of something or a person but also emotions. Common things such as black for rage or wrath, red for passion or lust, and pink for love. Yellow for happiness, dark blue for melancholy, and so forth. Like mood rings, you know? But there’s this thing that researchers just came out with that proves colors also reflect types of people in one’s life. The question of who’s your person based off of color.” Kassie explained.
“That is one of the most absurd things I have ever heard passing your lips together.” Morpheus blinked at her. She only smiled at the bluntness of his words.
“Tell me, Morpheus, when you look at me. What’s the first color that pops into your head?” she tilted her head to study him as his brows knitted together at the question.
It took him a moment before his lips finally parted allowing his answer to slip free on an exhale. “I do not know.”
A small sad smile grace her features as she shrugged. “That’s okay. When one lives in the colors of shadows and darkness people like us do not find colors very often.” she agreed as she raised the cup to her lips.
They fell back into silence for a few moments; the sound of crickets chirping in the night being the only sound besides their breathing. When she felt the heaviness on the side of her face she turned to find him watching her.
“What? Do I have something on my face?” she raised a hand to wipe away whatever it could be but Morpheus merely tipped his head at her and reached out to wipe at the corner of her mouth to wipe away the foam from her coffee.
“I can admit that perhaps humanity is not fully lost in itself if people like you exist in it.” the way he spoke made the hairs on her arms rise up and her lips twitched as if trying not to allow her smile to fall
“What’s that supposed to mean?” she questioned.
He did not answer and instead rose to his feet. One hand held out to help her rise. Kassie frowned lightly as she gulped down half of her beverage before allowing her hand to slip into his. His palm was cool to the touch in comparison to the heat of her own as she’d greedily soaked it up from the mug of coffee.
“Where are we going?”
“It is at a late hour. It’s time you went home to rest.” She missed the coolness of his touch as he’d let her hand go after she’d risen and grabbed her things.
“Leaving me so soon are you Morpheus? Or should I call you Dream? That’s what your sister called you; is that a nickname of sorts?” Kassie inquired as she followed his tall back from the cafe shop and onto the streets.
“It is my name as Morpheus is. I go by many names and claim them all.” the man replied and Kassie snorted as she hugged her book to her chest.
“That doesn’t sound like someone with an ego issue at all.” she commented under her breath before her gaze rose from the concrete she’d been watched as they strolled along and instead fixated her hazel eyes on the man’s pale features.
“You’re such an odd one Morpheus, I can’t seem to figure you out. But I like that about you…been a while since I was able to find someone who didn’t lie to my face.”
The comment threw the man off as his pale eyes turned to meet her warm ones; a furrow forming between the dark slants of his brows. “You speak as if humanity has wronged you.”
Kassie snorted and threw her arms around as she skipped ahead to walk backward so that she was facing a few steps in front. “Look around you Morpheus. Humanity is nothing but a lie. Even those with good hearts and pure intentions. People get fucked over no matter what side they are on; even when we don’t deserve it and sometimes bad things happen to good people. Or punishment not dealt to those who do deserve it. Humanity as a whole is corrupted and full of flaws. But even so, we live in it and make the best of what we have even when we don’t have a lot. That’s what hope is. That’s the only thing that people who have it dream about. Because that’s all we have left; a hope for a better tomorrow, a better future, a better life.” her words came in earnest even when her lips turned into a sad smile.
“It’s just what life is. It’s a game of fates and of lies. So yeah, I’ve been wronged; perhaps in ways that are not suitable to speak of. But I’ve made it this far and I plan on continuing until life beats me down to the point where my legs no longer have the strength to try and lift me back up again.”
He’d stopped walking to stare at her and after a few paces so she did too. She shrugged and crossed her arms over her chest. For someone who seemed to have what she needed Kassie did not seem like a person who was happy with her life. As if she was searching for something more; even when she herself wasn’t aware of it. So the question came both as a surprise and as a request when Morpheus spoke breaking the silence.
“What do you dream of?”
Her eyes did not meet his and instead looked towards the building at which they’d stopped in front. Her apartment complex was where she could see the lamp on in one of her windows.
“This is my stop,” Kassie said and flashed him a smile before she was trotting up the steps but his call; although low-pitched carried so deeply it made her heart twinge in a soul-crushing ache of longing.
“What do you dream of, Kassie?”
She half turned to look down at him from her height on the stairs and forced a soft smile to her features despite the burn of tears that wished to threaten to spill down her cheeks. “Rest.” she finally breathed.
“I just wanted rest…to stop being forced to run from those that want to haunt me” she replied before she turned and scurried up the stone steps toward her apartment door. The click of the door shutting behind her echoed her words as she closed Morpheus out of view; leaving him standing on the sidewalk watching her closed door with a haunted look of his own.
Most of the room was dark despite one lamp in the corner of the living room. Corinthian was nowhere to be seen but as she set her book down on the living room coffee table and her shoes by the couch she saw his figure slinking through the edges of the light from the shadows. Her tired haunted eyes looked at him as he folded himself onto the sofa; lean arms opening wide in invitation. She breathed out a heavy breath and climbed onto his lap; straddling his hips and taking his face into her hands.
“Make me forget for just tonight. That’s all I ask.” her voice was soft in the stillness of the living room.
And just like an addict during a withdrawal; Kassie sunk herself into him and allowed his poison to consume her body and run through her veins. All the while just outside of the living room window a dark figure of a raven perched upon a tree branch watched with beady black eyes of haunting disapproval and sadness.

The Adventure - TMNT Bitches: Chapter 9
.
CHAPTER 9: Enter the She Turtles
· Kari watches the elevators with anticipation and feels a wave of giddiness at as the doors slide open and two of her TMNT peeps step out into the crowded hotel lobby. Kassie’s shorter frame leading the way in her TMNT t-shirt, jeans, and ‘Raph’ shoes, cute leather lace-up sandals, that she bought specifically for this occasion. Holly following, her blonde head bobbing through the crowd, in her own TMNT swag, jean shorts, and green Converse tennis shoes.
· Kari is practically bouncing when they finally walk up to join her near the receptionist station, she looks like a cat who has eaten the canary, her grin is so wide.
· “You look mighty happy”, Holly chirps out in her thick country-southern accent. “Yes, you look as happy if someone showed you turtle cock”, comes Kassie’s southern accented comment, as she and Holly both stare at Kari’s wide grin.
· “Oh, it wasn’t THAT good, but it was GOOD”, Kari replies back, “you guys will never believe what I just saw!”.
· “Well, don’t keep us in suspense, sweetie, tell us”, Holly crosses her arms, tilts her head, and stares expectantly at Kari.
· “I just saw a guy dressed as the Shredder!”, Kari spills out in a rush, grabbing Kassie’s upper arms and emphasizing her excitement. “And just think, if that guy is walking around like that, there MIGHT BE TURTLES HERE!”, Kari adds, following her own train of thought and HOPING like mad that some guys decided to cosplay together, some as the Shredder and some as the Ninja Turtles.
· Kassie’s mouth drops open and an unintentional squeal escapes her. Her mind buzzing with how amazing cool that would be! Her first Dragon Con, with her and her TMNT friends doing their own group cosplay of the turtles, and now there is a possibility of men cosplaying as turtles too?!!! That would be completely EPIC if it were true!
· “You’re shittin’ us”, Holly voices out, fully hoping that Kari isn’t playing but it seems all too good to be true.
· “I’m dead serious, here look, I took a picture of him”, Kari holds her phone out for them to see, with the back shot of the Shredder on the escalator.
· “Oh my gawwwdddd”, Holly drawls out while Kassie rips the phone out of Kari’s phone to get a closer look. “That costume is AMAZING! Look at the detail!, “ Kassie breathes out, her eyes glued to the phone’s screen.
· “I say, as soon as Val gets here, that we go find this guy again…even though he was sort of an asshole”, Kari expresses to her friends while her face turns sour at the memory of the guy’s rude attitude.
· “Sounds like a plan to me, Val should be here in about an hour or two, she texted that she was about to leave her house and start driving this way”, Kassie says handing Kari her phone back, “in the mean-time, let’s find some food because as soon as Val gets here we’ve got to get dressed in our costumes and start partying…Mikey style”.
· “MMMMmmmm, Mikey Style…Mikey’s style is up against a wall or holding you upside down and just eating you alive….mmmmm”, Kari’s eyes go all day-dreamy and unfocused.
· “Not exactly what I meant, Kari”, Kassie giggles back at her tall friend, “But, I appreciate the visual”.

· A couple of hours later, the trio stood by the receptionist station watching the automated doors of the Mariott slide up and close for the steady stream of party-goers, cosplayers, and hotel guests.
· Among the flow of people came a short, dark haired female with katanas strapped to her back. “There she is!”, Kassie exclaimed excitedly and rushed forward to greet her friend and fan, “WIFEY! Over here!”.
· Valerie wheeled her suitcase into the hotel’s lobby and immediately hears a familiar voice, one that’s she has heard through voice recordings via the WhatsApp many times, one of her favorite writers of all time, and Tumblr wifey, Kassie! She sees the joyful five foot three woman bouncing her way, excitedly clapping her hands and throwing her arms open wide for those hug-things that people like to do. Valerie grins and bears it, Kassie is a touch person, Valerie gives her the hug she’s seeking.
· Holly and Kari are close behind, joining in the hug pile and causing Valerie to shake them off exclaiming, “okay, okay, enough with the hug fest you hippies. I just had years scared off my life and here you are trying to suffocate me to death”.
· “Oh, no, what happened?”, Holly’s concern clear in her blue eyes. “Yeah, who do we need to kill?”, Kari asked while grinding her knuckles into her palm.
· “Grrrr…no one important. Just some stupid guys LARPing in the middle of the road. I swear, it’s like some people aren’t born with common-damn-sense”, Val growls out, the annoyance that she felt in the parking deck quickly coming back to haunt her.
· “Forget about them! You are here with us now and we are going to have a great time!”, Kassie says pulling Valerie into her side by the shoulder, “Come on, let’s get your stuff to the room and get our outfits on, I want to get this party started! You’re bunking with me, Wifey. I put the two wild children in a room together with a whole solid wall separating us….you know…so you don’t kill them at some point this weekend.”
· “HEY! Our room is going to be the fun party room, isn’t that right, Holly?”, Kari asks while pushing Holly in the shoulder with her fist. “Damn skippy it is, we’ll be con legends for years to come”.
· “Oh god”, Valerie groans, “I can see it now…we’ll be kick out of the Mariott on the first night here”.
· “Stick in the mud”, Holly snips back teasingly.
· “Now I truly know what poor Leo feels like all the time having to deal with Raph and Mikey”, Valerie shakes her head and allows Kassie to lead her to the elevators so that they can ascend to the room floors and go to get dressed.
· An hour later, four scantily clad women dressed as ninja turtles exited two rooms on the fifth floor of the Mariott of Atlanta. Out of the “Party Room”, walked two tall women, one sporting the orange of a Party Dude and one repping purple for a genius, complete with gadgets strapped around her body. Their tall figures adorable, and hot, in their green pleather corsets, green tulle skirts, complete with a green shell backpack decorated with their weaponry. The other two women exiting, what Holly and Kari had dubbed the “Boring Room”, dressed as Leonardo and Raphael…if Leo and Raph wore corsets and tulle skirts.
· “Oh my god, I nearly forgot!”, Kari’s eyes bugged out as she grabbed for her phone and starts swiping through it, “Val, you gotta see this. We’ve gotta find this guy and take a picture with him, he’s dressed as the Shredder!”.
· Kari hands Valerie the phone and Valerie stares at the image stunned. She’s been going to DC for over twenty years. She has seen A LOT of nice costumes, insanely good replicas that looked like they walked right off a movie set, but the suit she is looking at the in the photo is unbelievably good. It looks so real. That guy was either a REALLY good costume designer or just a REALLY HUGE nerd. Either way, getting a picture with him would be epic.
· “Ok, then let’s find him”, the blue clad pseudo-leader says, “and the easiest way to do that is to split up”.
· “Don’t forget that panel that we want to go to for Rob Paulsen, it starts in about two hours”, Kassie reminds the group, “I’ve got to hear that Donnie voice inperson”. Valerie nods her head in agreement, “If we don’t find this guy within the next hour or so, we’ll meet up around the fountain on the lower level and head over to the panel. Kassie and I will search the lower level and you two…”, Valerie gives a weary eye to the two wild children, “one…BEHAVE. Two…take the main level and search for Shredder. If either party finds him, phone the other, got it?”.
· “Behave? What do you think is gonna happen? That you’ll find Holly and me hanging from the railings in the atrium?”, Kari asks Valerie dubiously.

Last of the info dumping, for now at least
Gonna talk about our 4 main antagonists! Basil, Finley, Faris, And Charlotte
I’ll start with Basil!!
Now we meet Basil early on, Abbigale and the gang come across her cottage. She’s very nice and sweet, she tells abbigale that she always wanted to be a bounty hunter, mainly because she viewed her own life as boring and unexciting, But she was never that great of a fighter unfortunately. Though later on in the story we find out this was a lie, Abbigale, happy that she had someone to relate too, jumped at the chance to be her friend. Kassi suggested that Basil should also come along with them if they were also helping Abbigale, and whilst Nix was hesitant as she had a bad feeling about the girl, she agreed.
So the two became really close, and through their endeavors they started to fall in love, and date! Basil even became quite good friend with Nix and Kassi too! All was going quite smoothly, until one faithful incident. During this time, they found out about Azalea, who they referred to as ‘The Wrench’ since him and his religion and him being a god and his story had been lost to time and yk the folklore, But they found about him and a plan the demigod had. Azalea saw that the earth was perfect and that humanity as a whole was perfect, but that there was evil within humanity that tainted everything. So he would get rid of anything he deemed as taint/imperfect to make the world as wonderful as he saw it. Only problem is that gods kinda have a skewed morality and doing this would kill a SHITTON of people, and obviously our main characters DONT want that. However Azalea can only do this properly if he becomes a god again, so that’s what he’s trying to do.
And our heros are trying to yk stop that. So the incident!! Our 4 heros come across a flying ship thingy and three hooded figures flying it (who later we find out to be Faris, Finley, and Charlotte) they see they’re followers of Azalea, so attempt to stop them, but unfortunately they aren’t able to and have to flee a now crashing ship. During this Basil gets trapped in one of the ship’s pods, she tries to call out for abbigale, but she Abbi doesn’t have enough time to save her so she has to leave without her. The ship goes down with Basil still inside, Abbigale is distraught as she thinks they’re dead. So she has to cope with that as the three continue their journey.
Basil however survives, just barely, losing an arm and an eye in the process. She probably wouldve died if it weren’t for Charlotte and the others finding her and deciding to take her back with them.
Basil is quite obviously, VERY angry that Abbigale left her to die. And has a lotta trauma from her yk almost dying. So with some convincing from Charlotte, she decides shes gonna get revenge. And make Abbigale suffer like she did.
A lot of her actions early on are fueled by her anger and the other members encouraging it, mainly Charlotte, who she ends up slowly falling in love with. Eventually though her anger slows down, as she sees that the rest of the antagonists, mainly Charlotte aren’t as they seem, and her feelings towards both abbigale and charlotte are becoming very muddled, which gets explore more and better in the actual thing and stuff hehshsj
Still trying to flesh out her backstory but tldr, her parents had a rlly messy divorce and they couldn’t decide which would get to keep her so they thought the BEST idea was to just abandon her so they didn’t have to deal with it, so Basil had to fend for herself for a while, eventually she was taken in by an orphanage and eventually given a home near the star kingdom. This lead her to have a ton of abandonment issues and shit, which fuels a lot of her internal conflicts

Okay so, Faris is an antagonist in the story, she was a serial killer before she joined the rest of Azalea’s team, though Azalea didn’t want her to join at all, but Charlotte was able to convince him that she’d be helpful,
Unlike a lot of the characters she doesn’t believe in god at all, she doesn’t really care about anyone viewing everything as an elaborate game for her entertainment, she joined Azalea because she thought it would be interesting and break the monotony on just killing people and getting away with it since the government didn’t really care what she did as long as it didn’t affect them,
Azalea made it clear to her that she would die once he became a god, and and whilst she didn’t really care about dying, she made sure that that he knew that he wouldn’t kill her, and if she was gonna die it would be by her own hands, unfortunately for her she doesn’t die by her own hands, but she also doesn’t die by Azalea, instead she’s murdered by one of her victims that turned into a teifling (which I’ll talk abt soon) so yea she dies </3
Despite not really caring about anyone she does develop a sort of friendship with both Finley and Charlotte,

OKAY onto Charlotte since I’ve been mentioning her constantly and you probs want context
Okay so Charlotte is a lil blue teifling, except she’s not really a teifling,
See unlike most teifling where they used to be human and died Charlotte was never human, she was made by Azalea to be a vessel for him to interact with the human world, for him to possess and control without harm (well physically harm at least) Because she’s not an regular teifling she can actually die by other means, Charlotte’s purpose was always to just be something for Azalea to use, only when he was done with the world would she be able to be a normal person and be happy,
It was always just azalea and her, azalea speaking to her in her head, him taking over her body, only the two of them for so long, she had been fascinated by humans and how they behaved, she desperately wanted to be like them, but never could,
Azalea was essentially her conscious in a way, telling her what she should and shouldn’t do
When she recruited Finley and Faris she was so excited, she thought they could be friends, and whilst they all were kinda close, it wasn’t the closest Charlotte was looking for.
That all changed when she met Basil, she saw her half dead, and saw an opportunity, she took her home, nursed her back to health, make a prosthetic arm for Basil just because she was so excited to meet another person who might want to actually be her friend the way she does,
And it payed off because not only was Basil extremely grateful but she wanted to be friends with her, she wanted to be around her, and that was everything to Charlotte.
She fell in love with her, everything about her from her personality to her very heartbeat,
When she heard what happened to Basil, how abbigale left her to die she was furious, she couldn’t understand how anyone could do that to Basil and kinda formed a parasocial hatred for abbigale and promised that she’d make her regret what she did to Basil.
Her love for Basil however was kinda?? Fucked a little, she was practically obsessed with her, to an unhealthy degree, she hadn’t felt this way with anyone and was afraid shed lose Basil
Azalea caught wind of this and always took control of her so she wouldn’t accidentally hurt anyone, he tried to distance the two to not encourage this behavior but it didn’t work, and it got worse and worse his ability to take control of the situation got lower and lower,
Charlotte loves this, she loves not being able to hear azalea for once, to have everything be silent and it just being her and basil, so this fuels her destructive behaviors
As Basil witnesses this her outlook on everything shifts, as she becomes more worried about Charlotte and less angry and vengeful, Charlotte had been a prime engager for her anger against abbigale so she fears if she doesn’t hate abbigale shell leave her, and she does not want that, so eventually she makes it her own personal goal to fucking kill abbigale and shit, because she’s just convinced that shes this horrible awful person
She’s very impulsive, very clingy and aggressive, but she does care a lot about Basil and Faris and Finley, it’s just that she doesn’t understand whats too much and doesn’t have a good understanding of boundaries

They aren’t technically allowed to possess anyone, especially humans, because it will literally the human if done to them, teifling wouldn’t die but they aren’t supposed to interact with them, as it’s supposed to be a punishment,

Finley is a yellow teifling and he has no memory of how he died,
He cannot handle pain, so when he awoke from yk dying and was shot with the biggest burst of a pain he couldn’t handle it at all, he couldn’t get used to it and was desperate to do anything to stop that pain, he tried to be a good person in hopes of becoming human, but he soon saw it wouldn’t happen, so he turned to azalea,
Azalea promised him he’d bring a world with no pain or suffering, and he jumped at that opportunity,
He cares about both Charlotte and Faris and even Basil, giving Basil in particular advice
He made sure to continue Faris’s “if you stop making Charlotte happy ill kill you” thing
His power is duplication, he can make temporary copies of himself

hands were clasped together in her lap, the skin of her thighs cooling now as air replaced where the warm little body of her cat had been laying before hopping off. her expression was sullen, gaze on braelyn as he asked such a question. the more and more kassy thought about the kind of relationship they had, her growing drug problem, a part of her wondered why he’d even want to? she supposed she could think of one reason, alec. the boy braelyn had taken a liking to and now cared for very deeply. if kassy knew a thing about romance she’d perhaps even think he loved that boy. and she wasn’t that dense, she knew he cared about her too, he had to -- why else would he stick around and change his lifestyle for her? but it seemed to be taking its toll. after seeing how he reacted, what he’d said to sebastian, why he’d said it. kassy had never pried into his family life, never pressed him for anything he wasn’t comfortable with --- it was something she did with everyone she met. personally, she didn’t want to talk about her own childhood, not everyone’s was happy and joyous so why press for information if they didn’t bring it up themselves? for him to provide an answer, be it as vague as it was, it was enough for her to understand to some compacity as to why. it still didn’t make it right and they both knew that. she had tried her best too, to explain the difference, to let him know -- but he had to know that she would never allow what he thought had happened to happen. it hurt, she’d admit, to think he even for a moment believed she’d be condoning such an action. kassy could both be upset and understanding. could both intend to forgive him while allowing herself the time needed to move on from it but she was worried how long that might take. not just for herself but for him as well. with how tightly wound he was, how closed off from her, how stiff his shoulders were, how he didn’t quite warm to her touch nor meet her eyes that something deeper was going on. it also felt as if what happened wasn’t quite the issue anymore, it was if the event had created a rift, an uncomfortable aura between the two that planned to stay. kassy had always struggled to read him more than the others she kept around her, in the back of her mind always felt the slightest seed of doubt. she tried her best to take every experience, argument and mishap with a grain of salt and learn from it but she’d be lying if it wasn’t frustrating. perhaps she was thinking too deeply of the moment but she wasn’t one to hold on to many. her loyalty lied in such a tightly knit circle that she never felt the need to extend it to those around her. yet with the years passing she felt more and more inclined and perhaps even eager for him to stay, to embrace him into her world fully. had it been a mistake not just for her but for him as well? dark eyes waited in the silence to see if he would meet her gaze at all, whether with concern, curiosity, shame, etc. exhaling softly, she finally replied, “ i think it’s possible.. ” that had caught his attention and as their eyes met for longer than a moment she could see just how exhausted he looked. the dark circles under his eyes, accentuated by the freckles that sprinkled his skin like stars in the sky, the near grimace he wore, the slight furrow of his brow and slouch of his shoulders. a part of her wanted to pull him into her arms, hold him as she would any other day when he was feeling down though another part wouldn’t let her. whether it was because it didn’t want to or it didn’t want the chance for him to reject her offering she wasn’t sure. he was giving her nothing and she would mirror that. a part of her was envious of the thought to comfort him, where was her comfort? was he too thinking the same? that her body language was a screaming red flag not to test her, not to touch her? she supposed if she couldn’t help it neither could he. “ but i also think we should have an early night... tomorrow will be a new day and perhaps we will have more energy to digest that question fully. ” as his gaze left hers once again, kassy rose from the couch. “ choose where you’d like to sleep, i’m going to get ready for bed. if you’d prefer to sleep out here you know where the extra sheets are. ” she took a step to pass him, pausing for just a moment to reach out and brush his cheek lightly with the back of her fingers, dark eyes softening before carrying on and disappearing into the bedroom. she was exhausted and dare she admit sad.

Looking back at the 1st Nightmare Arc
Well folks, here we are. It’s the end of the year and I successfully completed Season VI’s first arc! Today, it’s all about celebrating with an honest take on how I feel it all went down. No backstories on what took so long this time. Just all Mega lore and analyzing whatever I’ve managed to create in the Fanon. So let’s dive into it. This was an interesting one:
tl;dr? - Ep. 1: Boring Beginning, Exciting Middle Ep. 2: Steady Solid Stage! Ep. 3: Long Stage, Big Payoff Ep. 4: Strong Start, Very Expository Ep. 5: Another Long Stage, but not Draining Ep. 6: Reverse Pacing Ep. 7: Epic. As. Fuck.
Ep. 1: I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but Boring Beginning. I wanted it to start just like the game with the exciting narrative intro, except.. written out, it’s not all that exciting, but instead - expected. The same goes for Gate’s immediate monologue when you press start. I took the safe, easy route and just added stage directions to his discovery of Zero’s “piece”. Regardless, this was “A Broken World”, and I loved that title for a new Season #1. Honestly, I feel like this one really picks up from the middle, onward. Once we get into X’s first mission, the addition of the new reploids from the X5 ending didn’t really help at all. I got rid of them almost as soon as I introduced them, but it was supposed to serve a purpose. It was supposed to show us just how dangerous it is out there for noobies - especially the ones who think they know it all, like Cody. Once X fights High Max though, we almost mirrored the X1 feeling, which is exactly what I wanted. From here on, it’s pretty exciting and interesting to me. Because now X is all intrigued and worried about these new “Investigators” that have sprouted up. Giving X someone to fear again with High Max made for a really refreshing touch, too. Once he gets home to learn about them from Alia, the episode heavily leans on flashbacks from Xtreme 2, but they serve as a nice re-introduction to our 8 Investigators. I also really liked their Re-activation scene. That mirrored the vibe from Mega Missions when Doppler revived his select batch of Mavericks. Once they pinpoint their locations and X finds out that 3 of the Investigators are in Brazil, he wants to go there first. I feel such a hyped jolt of excitement at that Cliffhanger.
Ep. 2: Steady Solid Stage! It took forever to write out, but upon reading it, the pacing is surprisingly smooth as X explores the Amazon Forest. Calling it “The Nightmare Is Real” based on a random Rescued Reploid’s words was a little weak at first, but it comes back around to get real meaning by the end. During the stage, X’s dialogue with Iso kept things interesting, while he pursued that near-impossible sub-tank. [I swear, you can only acquire this with a jump part equipped, or exposing AI with the fire blade or something...]. I really really didn’t want X to use his Ultimate Armor so soon, for nothing, because I’ve added stakes to such a game-breaking power up. If he uses it, he blows out all of his stamina and needs to rest. Period. Using this to rescue Iso was not only a waste, but things probably would’ve gone down very differently, later. Anyway, that fight with Commander Yammark was perfect. At first, I thought it was a little short, but looking back on it, I love how they both get solid blows in, but then come to a standstill when they realize they’re on the same side. Having Nightmare Zero intervene was absolutely the right choice!! It gave us a new hook for something to come back to, as yet again, X had someone new to fear, like in X1. Since it’s an evil Zero, I’ll even say like X2. This is where the title “The Nightmare is Real” works, because... the Zero Nightmare was absolutely a sentient problem. And it wasn’t going away any time soon. X had to retreat and get out of there. Thank God for Alia’s force-teleporting. Pushing Alia's Love Interest during the debrief was also a very exciting development. I knew I wanted to do this, but at first I wasn’t sure if it was too soon to happen right here. Now, I feel like it was just right.
Ep. 3: Long stage, big payoff. Starting with Isoc’s report to Gate was actually not as boring as the 1st episode canon scenes. I made more of an effort to wake the scene up with stage directions or dialogue that makes more sense... Them talking about the possibility of Zero still being alive also sets up mysterious intrigue. Is he still out there?? And if so, how??? Will we see him???? Naming the entire episode, “The Outlier”, however is misleading. I suppose that could connect to Ground Scaravich, who wasn’t one of Gate’s original creations (in my Fanon). Still, giving X & Alia that slice of life romantic wake up scene at the near-beginning was absolutely refreshing. Not only that, but I think it was very necessary. Things are all Doom and Gloom this Season, which is my forte, but this shows that at Home you can still find happiness in Loved ones. The actual stage itself was an absolute pain in the ass and I knew it was going to be. I'm just glad it didn't completely burn me out. His fight with Ground Scaravich was bad ass though. X had the rare upper hand from the get-go as the menacer that Scaravich was afraid of. So he came in with confident energy and tried to beat him down for information. Of course, Scaravich didn’t let up and only revealed worse information, that those Reploids were being used for DNA Data. But that cliffhanger I left at the end, with Zero Nightmare applauding X for his kill...! It definitely helped me pursue a much sooner Chapter 4.
Ep. 4: Strong Start with the Zero Nightmare fight. I had a big challenge here, because I didn’t want X to win yet. We needed to build this feud and drag it out as much as possible. Zero Nightmare was gaining new motivation. He apparently knows about Zero’s existence, but thinks of him as a Fake. And thus we have the title “Where Is The Fake?”. Having X get weakened and willingly teleport away was a really mature choice. I think it shows growth. He could’ve done that plenty of times in the past. But here we go, X is wounded again.. I didn't want this to become a trope or slow us down, but it brought upon some very necessary world building and character development for the new reploids. Very much, the expository episode, this was an important chapter, because it set up things for future episodes and kept me on track, months later when it was time to think about the bigger picture. Kassy & Hal went to the Magma Area while Tack checked out the Laser Institute. The Nightmare System was in full effect now, and the goal was to show how dangerous the Nightmare actually is to some red shirts, before X goes in there. How effective that actually was in my execution, remains to be seen. At this point the episode title remains prominent, because X expresses sincere interest in finding the Real Zero, but they have... zero leads. (Sorry, I had to.) The Villains even had an interesting follow-up about Scaravich’s death and there was an interaction, which vaguely eluded to something new happening, from Metal Shark. So that will be something fun to look forward to. Ending at the beginning of a new stage is always a cool cliffhanger. Believe it or not, I wanted this to go all the way through the Rainy Turtloid stage, which would have given the title prominence for a 3rd time. But that’s okay.
Ep. 5: Another Long Stage, but its not half as draining as the Central Museum. In fact, all of the Reploid Interactions kept it really lively. Especially by the end. The Inami Temple was the first stage that I could hint at our location with the episode title - “Nightmare Rain”. I wish I could’ve done that for the previous episodes, but it’s alright. I took some interesting risks, during this stage write-through. I almost forgot about that frickin Monbando Reploid unit. I took a real risk by giving him an AI, but he keeps things interesting, giving X someone to talk to, which actually added levity to the situation where appropriate. That Nightmare Zero encounter mid-stage was what it was all about for me, though. I'm really proud of that one, using the stage layout to my advantage in an innovative way. All of that Levy stuff with Rescue Reploid 6 was another interesting choice. I have more in store for her, but I'm really hoping there will be more of a payoff, than just an Easter Egg Cameo. We’ll see. I’m looking forward to seeing what else I can do with her in the next arc. Need I bring up X’s Reploid rescues in the Gaia Armor!?? That was a bright idea that I came up with after post-planning. The original plan was to have X revisit the stage later, but I thought about how this Acid Rain was killing them, so... time to settle the issue of an unused Armor. [X6 granting us the gift of using a modified Fifth Armor was nice, but it made me wonder, why can’t he access the Gaia anymore?]. The answer was just that he doesn’t really like it. But he used it to his advantage here, and now I had a new challenge ahead of me. I had to get rid of it. Another challenge was posed when X discovered a fucking portal in one of the tunnels. I wasn’t prepared for that! But thankfully, I was able to come up with a viable excuse rather than just X being scared of the portal. He ran out of teleporter rings!!!! This gave me new Fanon Mega-science to add to the stakes. Teleporter Rings now need a day to recharge, and it was clear that plenty more needed to be made. This gave Alia & Douglas something to do, so in the end, this was all good. But now it was time for X to face off against Rainy Turtloid. He’d have to come back for the others later. [Time will tell, how well or poorly that is handled, depending on how long it takes X to actually get back there.]
Ep. 6: This one basically had Reverse Pacing, but I liked it. It started with a Climactic, Rainy Turtloid fight. I mean, this was Epic and fucking Brutal. Thanks to my brilliant bring-back of the Gaia Armor, now Turtloid had to take it away and break the shit out of it. This is where “The Fight Becomes Dire” and I thought it was amazing. In my planning phase, that was never remotely on the table, but it worked out wonderfully. What was on the table was X possibly using his Ultimate Armor if the battle got too brutal, but I wanted to avoid that. [I had done practice playthroughs where I managed to get X to win in Normal Armor and definitely in Falcon Armor with some select weapon spamming and pattern memorizing. I was open to keeping it simple, I really was.]. But after X got smacked around like a bitch, it was time for payback. Especially considering Turtloid’s motivation to fight was “But I have to listen to Master...” Here we had the interesting case that both Men respected each other and didn’t want to fight, but they had to. {Even though X thought the Reploid Trapping and Nightmare acceptance was reprehensible}. X primarily focussed on that and tried to change Turtloid’s mind, but once his Gaia Armor was destroyed and X nearly died, it was time for some Ultimate payback. I’m really surprised by how epic and dark it got. I’m very proud of it. After the mission, due to some very necessary stakes and power limiters, X had to sit out for a day again, once again slowing our pacing down to a screeching halt. This one hurt me, I think. At least he wasn't injured this time... As I stated before, when I made the decision to include the Ultimate Armor into this Season, I did so knowing that there needed to be a price. It comes with him using up all his stamina. Therefore, he can't spam it with every mission or battle. The same rules applied to his shotokan moves in Season I & II, which have basically been replaced by the Ultimate Armor at this point. With more opportunity at exposition, however, I was able to follow up on the new reploids, who were now in trouble at their respective missions. [This is the stuff I needed to give X motivation for his mission choices during the planning phase, but it just wasn’t there]. And yet, one was debatably set up too soon. I had a new dilemma, where X was forced to sit out, while Kassy & Hal are stuck at the Magma Area, hurt. The choice to show X training the recruits in the meantime was a fun risk to take though. It showed productivity and progress in the downtime, hopefully eluding to the idea that these newbies can fend for themselves, while it inevitably takes X a while to save them in the future. I also got to develop Levy more and even create some juicy tension between her and Alia, which wasn’t originally planned. I had intended for a 2nd sex scene with Alia to happen at some point, but I didn't want it to be forced. Just more of an implied - ‘this is what’s happening while we wait’. But the addition of Levy’s flirting played into Alia’s insecurities, which gave it more of a purpose. And poor Douglas! Hahahaha. I was so tickled when I put that in out of nowhere. We got some much needed levity when he wanted to show X a new part, but instead he overheard them having sex and walked away with a “Nope!” lol!!! Its becoming very clear that I enjoy the in-between mission slice of life stuff Way more than the missions themselves. But then, when we get back to it... after X gave it a night, he and Signas found every excuse not to save Kassy & Hal yet, because my Stage Order plan still needed to be in play... At least Tack discovered that Portal at Sheldon’s stage. This saved my Stage Order Motivation, but it was still weak. If only Zero was around, then they could split the difference. But what I liked about this was that it showed just how bad of shape that X and co. were in. Yet again, the episode title remained prominent. “The Fight Becomes Dire”! The truth is, they were all over the place and X didn't know where to go first. For the first time in a while, our Hunters are overwhelmed and understaffed. And that was really noticeable here. I still think the ending is kinda weak though. There's no real cliffhanger other than knowing that X will pursue Shield Sheldon next. But overall, I liked the flow of this. There's a lot of forced slow downs in the momentum to have us sit with the characters and their decisions. It makes for a very different, sort of dismal pacing, which adds to the atmosphere of this looming Nightmare that won’t go away. One noticeable thing, however is that I failed to follow up on the Villains this time around. I had an ample opportunity to follow up on Gate’s thoughts for losing Turtloid again, who was debatably his favorite creation. I really botched that up, but I simply didn’t think of it at the time before posting. So who knows? That could be possible room for improvement in a future edit. Either way, the Villains are sure to be due for a check in soon.
Ep. 7: Epic. As. Fuck. But it took a minute to get there. Shield Sheldon's stage was more complicated to write through than I originally thought. Its the shortest stage in the game and yet all those damn lasers and their angles made for quite the challenge. This in itself, was a “Laser Light Phenomena”. Another immense challenge that I wasn't expecting was Sheldon's battle completely Flipping the Narrative on X. Admittedly, I really had a hard time finding motivation for those 2 to feud. Especially since he wasn't holding a grudge based on the past. I noticed a while ago, all of Gate's creations are so very willing to sacrifice themselves for Gate's cause. Like, to a nonsensical degree. Maybe that's their degree of Maverickism. They're just crazy... Anyway, this Deadlock Standstill might really play into my favor, since this recent Portal Experience is going to change X's motivations. I... don't want X to take a backseat, but... Rescuing the Reploids is going to be his 1st Priority from here on in. Especially since he wasn't able to save Tack and the bunch. Again, thats where stakes come into play. I didn't come into this episode knowing I was going to make that decision. But when I saw the layout of the "Pocket Dimension" as I'm calling it, and I factored in the time Tack spent in there, trying to rescue the Reploids by himself, there was no way I could have them all just hang out at a narrow ledge by the gate, or stuck in the gateway, scared. I wasn't gonna pull a lame idea that they managed to somehow unlock the gate, like I did with Data. (That can be the one trait that makes Data special and could play into his advantage in the future. But no one else's). Nightmare Zero wouldn't spare them either. He'd absolutely kill them in bloodlust. So... stakes were created. X took too long to catch up to him and thats what he gets. That last battle with ZN though... I'm really proud of where it went. I had some obvious limits this time compared to past Zero fights. That could be an analysis for another time.. But, I was happy to get pretty gorey by the end, there. And that pay off Cliff Hanger was so satisfying! It gives me all the feels.
The 2nd Arc is going to feel very different. But we ain't out of the woods yet. Rereading the 1st Arc served as a dual purpose. Not only could I gush about my favorite moments or be open about my choices and how things came out, but it is starting to reveal where else it's going. Kassy & Hal still need rescuing at the Magma Area. Cody & Data are at the North Pole! Tekk is at the Weapon Center. X still needs to save whoever is in the portal at Inami Temple! Let alone revisiting the Amazon and Central Museum again. Exposition is just waiting to happen, and now that Zero is back?? Things are going to get easier, but also a little bit harder for X. One thing I can definitely say is that seeing him will bring back some Unwanted Memories. And its gonna be very interesting to see how he deals with that. I'm definitely looking forward to writing the 2nd Arc out in the New Year.

Crumby Day Comforts
Fandom: Voltron Legendary Defender
Characters: Keith Kogane, Lance McClain
Warning: Contains domestic fluff and talk of an oc
Description: After coming in from nightly chores, Lance finds his husband having trouble staying awake on the couch. Keith has been having nightmares on a nightly basis and hasn’t been talking to the other about them. Lance finds a soft and fun way to bring the information forward.

Purple eyes were nearly closed before feeling a startling weight come on to their person. With Kosmo asleep on the recliner, and a small babe curled into his side, Keith was left to one conclusion. “Lance,” he hummed tiredly as his head came out from his shoulder. The farmer boy smiled at his husband lovingly, damp hair giving away he’d been in the house for a while.
“Someone’s sleepy I see,” Lance cooed before gently caressing his husband’s cheek. A small noise escaped the other’s mouth as he nuzzled more into the soft touch. “When did you get home,” the older muttered sleepily. “About an hour or two ago. You just seemed so comfortable I didn’t want to bother you to join me. Everything alright?”
The other had come in from night time barn duty, only to see Keith struggling to stay awake. He couldn't tell if the other was depressed or just exhausted. It was a rather crappy day, Lance felt a bit sluggish himself from it. But lately Keith had been having nightmares that kept him up for hours. Or at least…. That’s how the former leader of Voltron described his nights.
He never woke Lance though, knowing the other had to get up early as it was for barn checks and chores. He’d slip off with Kosmo to the baby’s room and just rock with her until he felt his anxiety calm down. More than once Lance has found him asleep in the rocking chair his mother had gotten them as a joke.
Kosmo was at his feet and Kassandra was in his arms. It upset the former red paladin to see his love so upset about things and not talk to him about them. But today seemed no different than the rest as Keith lied to his face. “‘M fine,” he mumbled softly before rubbing at his eyes. Glancing to the television, he noted his movie had ended.
How long had he passed out for? Regardless, his senses and reactions were still lagging from the much needed nap. So much that he didn’t even feel Lance let go of his face, or even sit on his ankles. Wait…. What?
“Mmmm… hm? Lance, what are you doing?” He didn’t want to pull his legs back as he’d wake the small sleeper on one of them. “Huh, oh… just checking out what’s on, you know,” the other lied before turning to face the television again. He flipped through channels mindlessly until finding a kid cartoon that would distract the babe if she woke up.
Keith blinded a bit more as he saw the familiar blue hedgehog on the screen. He was a bit blurry as sleep was fighting to take back over. Rubbing his eyes a bit, the veteran tried to sit up. But…. had no such luck. “Lance,” he whined, wiggling his feet around. “Lift your butt up for a sec. Wanna mo--hahahaha!”
The man’s legs both jolted from the sudden ticklish sensation shooting up his body. He quickly covered his mouth as he tried to regain control of his limbs, not wanting to wake the babe against him. Lance stopped for a second before laughing himself. “I hardly did anything,” he teased. It was true, he didn’t. Keith just wasn’t expecting that.
Regardless, the half Galran’s face heated up slightly as he glanced to the side. “Lance,” he groaned in embarrassment. “What’s up Keith,” the other asked as if he hadn’t just been a little shit. “She’s sleeping, stop. Wait, no,” the dad whined softly as his husband gently picked up the sleeping baby and brought her to her playpen.
“Keith, she’ll be fine.” The Cuban laughed a bit before kissing his baby’s face lovingly and laying her down on her little matt. “But she was keeping my side warm. I want my pillow back,” the other protested weakly. Lance rolled his eyes as he came back over, smirking. “So, where were we?” Oh no. Keith curled up slightly, squeaking when his ankles were grabed. “Lance, no,” he protested tiredly. “Cut it out! That really tickled!” His voice was slightly cracked and low.
He was whining softly through his giggles as he sleepily tried to free himself from the other’s hold. It was honestly too adorable for Lance to handle! Keith was just so adorable when he was sleepy; Like a little kitten! Speaking of, Lance really wanted to hear some purrs! But, patience was a virtue. He smiled before sitting back on the ankles, skilled fingers lightly dusting up the socked soles.
The best kind of giggles were escaping his lovers mouth as Keith pulled weakly at his legs. Light, airy, almost non existing, the best kind of giggles from Keith’s mouth. He just sounded so sweet, and it normally was a sign for cuddles in the near future; Which was something the aching farmer’s body needed. “L-Lance!” Small hiccups and snorts were escaping the older’s mouth as he tried to pull his feet away and block them from the soft attack.
The other said nothing as he turned, still sitting on the ankles, but facing Keith. He gave a loving smile before his fingertips started to scrap gently along the underside of the calves before him. The staring eyes and the goofy smile caused Keith to cease up. He covered his blushing face as his legs tried to twist and turn.
“Mmmm!” Lance assumed the noise was a muffled whine as he knew all of Keith’s weak spots. The calves were maybe a warning attack, earning a soft smile and maybe a snort on occasion, but it was nothing serious. Unlike… this! Keith suddenly jolted, hsi hands pulling away before quickly trying to relocate as the underside of his knees were squeezed.
“L-Lhahahance! Sthahahaoop, sthahahaop!” His whining pleas were almost high pitched and low toned at the same time. His snorts were more consistent and goofy. “Gah! Okhahahay, okahahay! I-I’ll thehehll you! Lhahance chahaome on!” It was slightly embarrassing! Sure they’d been having tickle fights since their late teens but still.
Keith couldn’t stand the light touches and teasing looks! He was used to normal touches and verbal teases that would make him fight back quicker rather than fall victim. “Huh? Tell em what,” the other teased as he moved higher to pinch the bouncing thighs before him.
Keith shrieked before covering his mouth with one hand, and trying to fight the other off with his free one. “Oh! Did you mean the thing you won’t wake me and tell me about when it happens? The thing that can’t hurt you because I’m right here and I’ll protect you. That thing,” Lance teased as he started up the hips. “Lahahahnce! Dhahaon’t you dhahahre!” The soft giggles were leaving as Lance was starting to add a bit more pressure, getting dangerously close to Keith’s worst spot.
“Gonna tell me what’s wrong,” the male asked as he stopped slowly. Lifting the large nightshirt, he started to rub the other’s tummy. Cat like purrs were slowly earned as Keith’s eyes fluttered shut. His sleepiness was starting to return, along with the feeling of warmth and comfort. His cheeks heated up a bit more as his face fell into a soft pout.
The expression was so cute! It was like looking at their baby’s face! A bowed out lower lip, soft rosy cheeks! Ah! Lance lightly rubbed a thumb over Keith’s scar, getting his attention again. “Mm?” The younger chuckled before kissing his husband’s forehead softly. “So… what’s been going on man?”
The other shrugged as he leaned forward to cuddle into the farmer. “War, birth, dad, mmm.” Oh. Lance frowned before moving so that he was under Keith and the other had his chest as a pillow. “Well…. Everything is okay now. Everyone is safe and well… it’s a happy time kitten.” He ran his fingers through the other’s hair lovingly.
“You should rest up Keith. I promise I’ll be right here when you get up, as will everyone else.” The other wasn’t pleased by this statement. “Baby, now,” he grumbled. Typical. “Which one?”
“Both,” Keith grumbled. Lance couldn't really get up at the moment but there was no way Kosmo, Kassie, Keith, and himself were about to fit on the couch. “Keith, we gotta go to bed then, alright?” The other merely grunted as he clung tighter onto his lover. With a roll fo the blue eyes, Lance adjusted the two so that he could pick his husband up with a bit of struggle and carry him to their bedroom.
Laying him down, he left to retrieve the wolf and human babe before snuggling up as a small family. Keith was already asleep one Lance joined him, hugging his baby contently. Lance gave a soft smile as he looked over the other. “Night Keith,” he whispered before placing a kiss on his forehead.

Fictober Day 5
Theme-“I might just kiss you”
“Hey!” I said to my friend Kassie as I walked up to her. It was the end of the day after school. She was rushing to her after school drama club. I had never seen what she saw in that club. It was like social suicide. But I loved her anyways. As a friend at least.
“Hey what’s up?” She asked.
“I was just wondering if you wanted to come to the haunted house with me tonight. I have an extra ticket so...”
She quickly checked her watch and bounced a little from her heel to her toe. “Listen I have to get to drama club. Um... I’ll text you okay.” She dashed away without saying goodbye, but I waved anyways.
Recently we had begun to drift apart. Ever since I had come to her 13th birthday party she had started to avoid me. I had no idea, but I wanted my old friend back.
I quickly rushed to the bus and jumped on just before it had left. I got to my seat and sat down next to my brother Ronin. He handed me a piece of spear mint gum and I pushed it away. I pointed to my braces and he rolled his eyes.
“Could you live a little?” He asked. He stuffed the piece of gum in his mouth even though he had already had some in his mouth. He was chewing with his mouth wide open and I could hear every little sound.
“Could you be any louder?” I asked
“Yes.” He exclaimed as he proceeded to be even more annoying. I sighed and opened my backpack to start doing my homework.
After about five minutes I was done and the bus driver called for me and my brothers stop. We quickly grabbed our stuff and headed home. On our way I heard a ring from my backpack. I pulled out my phone and I saw that Kassie was calling me. I answered the call and put the phone to my ear.
“Hey, Mia.”
“Hey Kassie!”
“So I think I’m going to be able to go to the haunted house. Drama club got canceled because it started raining.” As soon as she said this a few drops of water poured onto my face from the sky. More rain came down until I was completely drenched.
“Yeah I can see that.” I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm just like my clothes.
“So I’ll see you there?” She asked. Before I could say anything she hung up. I put my phone in my pocket trying to protect it from the rain jumped up in excitement. It made a big splash and got my foot completely soaked.
As soon as I arrived home I told my mom I was going to the haunted hose with Kassie. She was very happy I was trying to build our relationship back up. I really did miss her. Remembering all the good times we had had in elementary and middle school put a bitter taste in my mouth, but I ignored it and got ready for the haunted house.
*30MINUTES LATER*
I had finally finished getting ready, and just in time. Kassie had texted me that she was waiting outside my house. I hadn’t expected her to pick me up, but I guess it was a nice surprise.
I quickly put on my black leather bag with multiple lgbtq+ pins from hot topic on them, and ran down the stairs. I took my house key off the shelving unit just beside the door and went outside to see her waiting in her car.
“You ready to go?” She asked.
“Yes!” I replied with excitement. I hoped into the car and Kassie immediately Started driving. She pressed a button and starting playing Panic! At The Disco
“No way! You like P!ATD too. I had no idea” I said while I started dancing to “Hey Look Ma I Made it”
“Yeah, I’ve liked them for a while.”She replied in what seemed like a very somber tone. Her head was slightly tilted downwards and she seemed to readjust herself in her seat trying to brush off what I had said.
I didn’t want to bring up the fact that we had drifted apart, but it seemed necessary. At least in my head. “Hey, um. I wasn’t planning on mentioning this, but, why did we become so distant? I feel like the last time we’ve hung out like this was your 13th birthday party.”
“Yeah, sorry about that.” She took a deep breath of air and continued, “Do you remember that party though. It was the bomb. We played hide and seek at the neighbors backyard and sprayed silly string all around the neighborhood.”
“And we played spin the bottle! That was hilarious. Remember when we had to kiss each other!” I laughed, but she didn’t. I wondered why, but I just moved onto a different topic. “So are we close?”
“Yeah it’s just over here.” She replied pointing to a big parking lot filled with tons of people. I had a brief moment of regret, but it all went away when she found a parking spot right near the entrance.
“Perfect!” I exclaimed.
We both got out of the car and started heading over to the ticket booth. I looked inside my bag for my wallet, but it wasn’t there. Panic filled my mind, and it obviously showed on my face because Kassie asked, “Are you all right, is something wrong?”
“I forgot my wallet.” I sighed.
“That’s okay I can pay for you. I’ve been doing extra babysitting so I have some extra cash.”
“I can’t let you do that.” i said. I was very thankful, but she wasn’t in a family that you would call rich. Money was short on her end. I couldn’t let her waste it on me.
“No, don’t even worry about it.” She pulled out her wallet and handed me $50.
“I can’t let you give me this much! This is way to much. You have to at least let me pay you back after.” It was the best I could have done. I should have remembered how generous she was.
“Fine, if you insist.”
We both paid for our tickets and headed off to the haunted house. I had over $30 left and I handed it to her. “Here you go.” I continued, “Thank you again.”
“No problem.” She smiled and looked back to the ground.
At last we had reached the haunted house. It was very tall and dark, as it should be. But somehow it wasn’t quite like I had expected. It was a bit more scary and I had the urge to hold Kassie’s hand, but I resisted.
“Are you ready?” I asked looking her in the eye. For the first time I realized how beautiful she was. Her ocean blue eyes, and her cute little button nose.
“Yeah, let’s do this.” She said. I looked away not wanting to seem like a creep, and we entered.
We handed our tickets to the man at a booth and he exited, leading us to the inside of the house. It was very dark and damp. The walls were a very musty grey, with bits of paint missing in some spots. In others there were scratch marks like someone was clawing at the wall, but I tried not to look at it.
We traveled through the room and entered through another door. This one led to a very different room. It was hospital themed. Without even thinking about Kassie, I started rushing through the room. I was trying not to look at each section, but I couldn’t help but look at some. One section had a zombie having its arm cut off by another zombie doctor. For some unknown reason i decided to close my eyes and run faster.
This was not a smart decision.
I started bumping into other things around the room until I reached the end of the room. I quickly opened the door and slammed it shut. I knelt to the ground as tears rolled down my cheeks. I tried to rub them away, but more kept coming. I was scared. And there was nothing I could do. And that’s what I hated.
Suddenly I felt a pressure on the door and I jumped up trying to rub away the dripping mascara from my cheeks.
Kassie came rushing through the door. She ran up to me, and instead of asking me why I had ran off, she hugged me. I was pleasantly surprised by this. I instantly hugged her back from habit. But I didn’t want to stop. Being in her arms made me feel safe.
She released me and rubbed the wet marks off my cheek and chin. Once again i realized how pretty she was.
“I’m so sorry.” I said quietly as I looked down to the moldy ground.
“It’s okay, I understand.” She said. She reached out for my head and grabbed it. She rubbed her thumb on the back of my hand in a comforting way.
“I love you.” She said. I looked up to her in shock.
“I-I-I love you too.” I said grinning.
“I might just kiss you.”
“And I might just let you.” I replied.
Our lips touched, and I had never in my life felt more safe and calm.

sad dark eyes shimmered as kassy looked at him with an unwavering gaze. when she looked at him she saw all of him, saw the bright and exuberant child he was, saw the devestation that took over him through his teens, saw the strong and lovable man he turned into during college. she sees it all behind the face he wears today. he's aged as has she yet he's grown colder, sharper, tired as though he carries a heavy weight with him at all times. his expression is softer as it always is when he looks at her yet the pain is always there in those stormy eyes. she wishes she was strong enough to take that weight from him. but even if she was, he wouldn't let her.
he had closed himself off to her over the past little while and it hurt her. hurt her to know that he was in pain so great he couldn't bring himself to her for comfort, or that she would only cause the ache to grow unbarable because she could not help. she also hurt for herself, the forever gnawing feeling that she was not enough for him. that the wounds he held could not be healed by her touch, by her comfort and words this time. he would always be her first choice, the first person she would wish to turn to, to talk to, to be with. it was foolish to think that she would stay his number one forever. naive.
sebastian's heart had belonged to another and if he had not been hurt as deeply as he had she would have been happy for him. would have set her longing for what they had been like before aside in hopes that he would be given everything he had ever wanted and more. but that hadn't been the case and now she bled for him, the anger she felt for the man who stole his heart only to discard it so carelessly. she would never do that.
but as the last year had passed their relationship, it had changed, shifted, distanced -- but in a different way than simply space and time. she hadn't seen him much during college yet they had still been closer than they were now. there was a tension between them that broke her heart, like it pained him to be near her. in a sense she supposed she felt the same, being by him hurt if only because of the longing for how they'd been before, how he reminded her more now of the young boy who had hid from the world. on the outside he was here, he was present, yet it was a front to protect the wounded, heartbroken boy inside.
now he stood in front of her as the rain poured down on them, trying to amend for the time apart, for his time away, for the damage that had done. she didn't want him to cut his heart out, grant had done that already for him. she just wanted him to allow himself to heal, and for her to be by his side as he did. tears washed away with the rain as she took his hands in hers, shaking her head slowly.
"no, sebastian..." she said softly, dark gaze shimmering as they met those stormy ocean eyes. "i would never want that... i would never want you to harm yourself for me.. i love you. and i just miss you--" her throat closed at that, swallowing thickly as she brought both their hands to his heart. "all i want is for this to heal... and for you to allow me be by your side as it does... no matter how long it takes."

with the end of the year looming closer, grant's apartment is nearly packed up for his move to a new condo. she's happy for him because he deserves this. deserves some place to start over and perhaps even allow himself to be happy. but as she takes a look around the emptying apartment, all octavia sees are all the moments they've spent together here. the good, the bad, and all the in-between moments played for her as she looked around, following the noise of grant taping together another box. "a lot happened here didn't it..." she said softly, a reminiscing smile on her face as she neared him.
"everything feels like it's changing," she said, her smile fading just a touch, "kass moved in with nick, you're going to move into your kickass condo, i'm going to move into the dorms..." these were good changes, save the reason kassy had to leave her apartment, and yet, it felt just like when she'd been afraid nothing would be the same after graduation. in some ways, nothing had been.
octavia felt a little lost in her reminiscing, fingers trailing along different pieces of furniture in grant's bedroom when his hands on her hips gently pulled her back to him. not everything's changing. octavia smiled a little at that, goosebumps rising at the way his lips grazed against the skin below her ear. "better not," she replied with a smirk, turning towards grant as she leaned up to kiss him. it's easy to lose her thoughts, and herself in these moments with grant. easy to tap into the happy bubble they've been living in recently and so when grant pulls her in, despite the fact she'd come over to help him pack, octavia has no issues deepening their kisses. no issues sliding her hand up his chest before gripping some of his shirt. but as his hands smooth down her back, she can feel the confusion in his kiss that hesitates a little as his hand slips beneath her jacket and shirt. her closed eyes tighten as the warm metal leaves its spot in the waistband of her jeans before she sighs, lashes fluttering open to him. octavia...
although she can't make out the look on his face, unsure if it's surprise, sadness, confusion or, uncertainty as he holds her new choice of weapon and protection in his hand. "what?" she challenges, suddenly feeling a prickle of defensiveness wash over her as octavia created some distance between the two. "it's a gun...anyone can get one." she replied, narrowing her eyes at him. don't look at me like that...
"then don't look at me like you're surprised by this." octavia shot back with a huff, "i almost died, grant...so many things could've happened to kassy, she could've di--" octavia cut herself off then. unwilling to finish her sentence despite the fact that lately, it's all she thinks about. the attacks. the kidnappings. the shooting. kassy's stalker. what if nick hadn't shown up when he did? what if kassy hadn't had her taser or access to knives? "we have to start facing the facts, it's not just your guy's world...this whole city is fucked and you guys can't be everywhere all the time. i can't..." her head shakes. she can't keep being a bystander in all this, waiting for the next tragic thing to happen to her, or anyone else she loves. "grant, i've done the training with rev but..." her eyes lower to the gun grant now held in his hand before slowly lifting to him. it's not enough. the fighting, the blades. they don't bring enough comfort. "the next time something or someone comes at any one of us, i intend to be ready." kassy could have died and knowing that has octavia spiralling for a bit of control.

Carole Hudson lost her husband, Christopher, when he went awol from the military the year their son Finn was born. At first she was devastated and though they didn’t have much money or success. Finn never knew his father and though there were many times he wished he knew more about him or wished he could have had him to talk to, he eventually learned it would be for the best. Carole worked two jobs and gained her degree to work as a nurse while she raised Finn. and despite their circumstances Finn lived a pretty normal life and the one thing he would always be thankful for was how hard his mother worked. He saw her cry, he saw her struggle but she never gave up on them. That was something that Finn would keep with him his entire life: no matter the circumstance you never give up on family.
Throughout high school Finn did many things that those around him admired: he was the captain and state champion football quarterback and he played basketball. Though he wasn’t only athletically gifted he was musically gifted as well: he played the drums, guitar and was in the school glee club where he was the lead male vocalist 60% of the time. Many time he was labeled as the golden boy but that was far from the truth, his grades suffered at a C average and though he had all this talent he had no self esteem. He could never truly nail down what he exactly wanted to do with his life or his future. The confusion and anxiety led to his fluctuating weight which in-turn gave him more self esteem issues.
Maybe the reason he didn’t know what to do with his life was because he wasn’t qualified to do anything. He just wanted to be young forever and Finn didn’t know how to accomplish that feeling by going to college. He didn’t know what he could do to make other happy let alone make himself happy. After speaking over and over with his school counselor and trusted teachers like his glee club and football coach, his vision began to become clear. He wanted to do for kids what these teachers had done for him, he wanted to change their lives. He looked through colleges all over the country until he settled on going to the University of Rochester to pursue a degree in education.
College was hard, it took a lot for Finn to learn how study (and how to not oversleep for his classes) and though he may have failed more than once he was able to get back up and prove to everyone that he was going to achieve his dream no matter what it took. The goofy looking kid with a heart of gold was going to be a teacher if he had to stay up all night every night if that’s what it took. Two years ago Finn graduated with his degree so he could teach physical education at the high school level. He chose to stay in New York City, finding a position in the whatever school district and was even offered the assistant coaching position for the football team.
For the first time in a long time it feels like Finn is genuinely happy. He loves his job(s), has a nice place and gets along better than anyone with his best friend, Marley Rose. The only thing truly missing is a special someone to share it with. For a long time he thought that person could be Marley but he lost that opportunity when he was put into the friendzone. And now that she’s planning on using a donor maybe it’s time he moved onto to someone else. Finn is a pretty open hopeless romantic, he’s had a few relationships here and there but nothing that swept him off his feet or gave him those weird butterflies in his stomach. He’s hoping that this year will be the year that changes.
CONNECTIONS.
MARLEY ROSE → Finn has known Marley forever. They’ve gone through a lot together and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He would also be lying if he said there wasn’t a point in time where he didn’t want to be more than just her best friend, but he definitely missed that window, especially now that she’s pregnant and completely bypassed the idea of Finn acting as the donor. Except what she doesn’t know (and what Finn doesn’t remember) is that that’s exactly what happened, thanks to a drunken mistake. Finn has no idea what the future holds with Marley, but he knows he doesn’t like the idea of her raising this near-stranger’s baby. But it’s not his choice. All he can do is be there for her like always.
SEBASTIAN SMYTHE → Finn kind of feels bad that Sebastian ended up being the dude who had to hear him ramble incessantly about Marley when she first told him her plan. But then, Sebastian was cool about it and even ended up sticking around in Finn’s life for continued moral support. He’s pretty much who Finn will go to whenever he needs someone to be a voice of reason for him.
KITTY WILDE → As much as Finn disliked the idea of his best friend going through with the artificial insemination thing, Kitty seemed to dislike it even more, with her own best friend on the other end of it. It was a weird thing to bond over so it’s not like Finn and Kitty became best friends after meeting at the party, but it’s interesting to have sort of an ally in this. Like, just in case.

i NEED someone, that i’ll look to, in the LONELY hour, that we all go through to give me [comfort], and LOVE me through in the lonely hour, i need you I NEED YOU.
“you still haven’t slept?”
spoken like a siren, luring sailors from the deck and into the sea’s embrace. musical and commanding; it was no wonder, the way his blue eyes immediately fluttered open, a crease appearing between dark-blond eyebrows as they knitted together. the room was dark and silent save for the sound of soft breathing and the soft, tinny whirring of the AC as it exhaled cold air to combat the sweltering late-May heat. the walls of his throat were dry, parched for something that could not be named. “you could tell?” his voice was scratchy as he spoke, rough as sandpaper, and his tone resigned. goosebumps raised over his flesh as he felt her hand shift from the space below his collarbone, mapping over where his heart lay. the duvet shifted with her body as she leaned close, her lips moving against the dip in his bicep as she spoke.
“i could tell,” was all she said at first, voice soft with sleep. “you seemed too peaceful to be asleep.”
his throat tightened with the realisation of how aware she was, how aware they both were, of his chaos. of his storm.
he shifted onto his side at that and her face came into view, lovely even in near perfect darkness. her eyes reflected light like twin moons, illuminating the soft lines of her heart-shaped face. there was a curve to her cheek tailor-made for the press of his mouth. her voice was a lighthouse, guiding him out of the stormy waters of his thoughts even as waves continued to break against one another.
the moonlight spilling into his bedroom defined her silhouette, a shape he had committed to memory. the dainty contours of her shoulders existed in direct contrast with the strength and confidence that reinforced her body. like him, she was equal parts soft and sharp. perhaps that was why the grooves of his soul fit against hers so perfectly. at least in this aspect, they were the same.
this was how he saw her; this girl who loved him so profoundly, so powerfully, it melted at the frost that had formed over time throughout his veins. this girl—his girl; a person who had grown to know him in such a short duration of time even as he shut her out of the loneliest, most intimate parts of himself. his girl who preyed on his heart. his wolf.
“what’s on your mind?” she asked, but her tone implied she already knew he was unlikely to give her a real answer. “you’re so frustrating. it’s hard to sleep knowing you’re awake, torturing yourself over whatever it is you won’t tell me.”
his lips pursed before parting to speak. her hand left his body to press over his mouth. “i already know you won’t tell me.” it was met with an apologetic kiss to her fingertips. “you never tell me anything. i just want to know you. is that so wrong?”
gentleness was needed in his response. this much he knew. and so, his tone was smooth and sweet, like jack daniels honey, as his lips moved to whisper, reverent and passionate, “you do know me. you know one me. and i know one you, and those two people care about each other more than anything else. isn’t that enough? do you really need to know all of me? even if i tried my hardest, i don’t think i could know all of you.”
in place of an answer, she shifted closer to his chest. as though trying to force herself to believe his answer. that it was enough. that it was okay not to know him as thoroughly as she knew everything else. what he did know about odessa was that she was a perfectionist and regarded everything, including the people she cared about, as puzzles to be solved. strings of code to be deciphered. when facing a boy who had firewalls over every facet of his system, he knew it could be frustrating. guilt silenced his unruly mouth and caused quiet to reign over them for long, pained moments. what he did know about her was that she would not yield first, that she already felt she had given him enough by being the first to bare her heart, the first to fall. this show of weakness was already too much for her to bear. he knew. he knew and was so sorry, he felt constantly sick with it.
moments like these hurt, exposing cracks in the otherwise soft and seemingly perfect bond between the pair. their flaws taunted them both, but it was something they were both unprepared to stomach, work on and live with yet. odessa cared too much about being perfect and ciro—all he wanted was to be the perfection she desired.
“kassie.” her name fell from his mouth like a prayer. one that begged her to stay even as every iota of his intuition screamed the opposite. to remain right here, folded up into his chest, just a small leap away from entering his heart. his hand reached for her face, fingertips slotting behind her ear as his thumb stroked over the marble slope of her cheekbone. “you should sleep.”
a frown creased his features. being in the sun for so long had caused his freckles to become more prominent, dark against the soft glow of his skin. he sat on the window sill, one leg propped up as his eyes regarded the moving figures below. students chattering together, moving like cogs in perfect synchrony. he had only been back at school for a few weeks, a late admission midway into the first semester after his foster carers placed him on house arrest, and it seemed as though he was the only person who had yet to find his place in the machine they operated in. it was of no consequence, however. ciro had bigger things to concern himself with. six years had passed since his parents’ death and he was still miles away from his ultimate goal. the pendant he had found inches away from his mother’s body burned hot against his chest, her cross singeing against his skin as well. their nagging burning seeming to whisper a litany of: “don’t forget me; don’t forget me; don’t forget me.”
as if he ever could.
‘ciro.’ his eyes squeezed shut, the lines of his face appearing pained at the voice that had made itself known. ‘ciro, mijo, come home.’
it wasn’t time yet, but even if he moved his lips to tell her that, the voice would remain at the back of his head. it was a cruel and unusual punishment, the fact he had to carry her voice with him wherever he went. a heavy penalty for being unable to do anything but watch as she was murdered right in front of him.
her voice was bittersweet, making him feel simultaneously happy and sick. it felt both like arms that held him gently and hands around his throat. his lip quivered, pain slicing through his mind at the soft insistence. come home, come home, come home, come see us, we miss you.
the haunting insistence of a ghost that knew he had never gone to visit the body he had a part in draining the life from.
“stop it.” it was said through grit teeth, the pain so great he had not realised he had spoken aloud at all. in moments like these, nothing existed outside of himself. the world around him did not exist.
and so he was unware of the eyes regarding him from the doorway, filled with intrigue, the look of a wolf regarding its prey.
his lab partner had made themselves scarce, leaving him to his own devices. with boredom coming off him in waves, the blond boy’s dull blue eyes focused only on the lime green liquid trapped in the test tube. a perpetual sigh was fixed onto his mouth, present in the parting of his lips, as he listlessly moved the tube from one side to the other, swinging it back and forth like a pendulum.
“you’re jess’s partner, right?”
the shock of hearing someone address him nearly caused him to drop the tube onto the table, his body jerking upright as sharp blue eyes fell on a heart-shaped, pretty face. he recognised the girl from a few classes, but she was not someone he had ever spoken to before. a flush settled itself across the constellation of freckles on his cheeks. “uh, yeah. yeah, that’s me. um…sorry.” with a squint, he awkwardly continued to stumble over his words. “we haven’t…met, have we?”
a laugh like bells resounded from her mouth. it reminded him of the church on the outskirts of the small, sleepy town he spent his adolescence in. “don’t look so scared. we haven’t met before.” her had stretched out, expecting to be shaken. ciro had never seen someone do this outside the movies. in eureka, slaps on the back were the preferred mode of greeting. he hesitantly reached for it anyway, causing a pretty smile to flicker over her mouth. “my name is angkasa, angkasa bayu, but you can call me kassie.”
“ciro,” he responded, voice strained with nerves from sharing a name he had not used since he left his home for a life in the shadows, not since he was a child who still knew what it meant to be trusting, to be kind. “you can call me ciro.”
a bemused expression creased her face. shit. he hadn’t used the false name he had adopted during his time in eureka. mercifully, however, she did not comment.
“kassie. you should sleep.”
instead of refusing him directly, she ignored his request altogether, leaning into his hand and fitting her lips against the inline of his palm. voice airy like a sigh against a summer breeze, “i love you.”
for a staggering second, it felt as though he could fool himself into thinking this was all there was. that no world existed outside the bubble they had formed around their bodies. that there was no burning vengeance deep inside his heart. that his blood did not flow for one purpose and one purpose alone. that this face he was regarding was her only face, and not just one bare of the many masks she wore. that there was no deep-set mistrust of her sincerity when it came to others. that this was enough; the way they fit, their youth and the power of their emotions. that they could love as freely and recklessly as she wanted them to. that he could take a sledgehammer to the wall between her and his heart and just let himself love, and then love, and then love like he desperately wanted to.
but, it was not true. it was not right. and he forced himself to shut his eyes nightly against that regret. chained by that knowledge, a frown twitched over the pink stretch of his mouth as he spoke, “quiero amarte.” a frown that matched his own spread over the bow of her mouth. “prometo que lo hare algún día…pero aún no estoy listo. lo siento, mi pequeño loba.”
“you’re such a coward.” there was still nothing but affection colouring her voice. “you always do that when I say it. you’re in for it when i start my Spanish course.”
a grin broke out over his face, despite the guilt that bore its great, white teeth and gnawed at his chest still. “i know. i can’t wait, little wolf.”
her arms wrapped over his chest and hugged him close, sleep crawling into her voice as she yawned her response. “me, too, ciro.”
she fell asleep soon after, but sleep eluded him well after dawn had already broken across the sky, mind racing with remorse. the responsibility of being loved sat on his chest like a dead weight.
“so,” he said awkwardly as they left the classroom together. “um, i’ll…i’ll see you around?” it was phrased as a question, thick with uncertainty.
something formed between them. something like a promise.
a strange and bemused look painted over her face. “oh, i think you and i will be seeing a lot of each other for a very, very long time.”
