to sum up kabru's situation via a self-contained modernized metaphor:

kabru is like a guy who lost his entire family in a highly traumatic car accident. years later he joins a discord server and takes note of laios, another server member who seems interesting, so they start chatting. then laios reveals his special interest and favorite movie of all time is David Cronenberg's Crash (1996), and invites kabru to go watch a demolition derby with him

Jack being Jack and getting used to his powers and being INCREDIBLY confused that he woke up NOT in his bed, not next to his incredible wife, and assuming this is a ghosts shenanigans. Clark is freaking out because he’s human, not next to HIS incredible wife, assumes this is a Mxyzptlk plot, and cements himself as an incredibly good father figure with Danny and Jazz, reaching out to other Supers for help to teach Jack the ropes and to wait out whatever Mxy has done.

Artemis swapping with Jazz

during an Outlaws mission and DURING some test for Jazz. Both freak out, both have to adjust to the other persons strengths and abilities, and Jason and Bizzaro have to calm a very confused and scared teenager who’s in an Amazonian body. While Danny’s friends are DESPERATELY trying to stop Artemis from throwing hands with every ghost she sees.

Johnny 13 and Jason Todd

Jason Todd is dead again. Not Good. Johnny is alive again. This ROCKS! Jason’s Red Hood goons lock him up because their boss is clearly compromised. Jason figures a way out of the Ghost Zone and asks Phantom for help. Along with having to acclimate to being able to control a sentient shadow and ghostly powers, Jason is in for a doozy. Johnny on the other hand, is going through many many attempts to escape Red Hood’s room and failing… until Red Robin crashes through a window. Apparently he should have answered the calls on Red Hood’s phone. Red Robin near instantly clocks that whoever is in Jason’s body, isn’t Jason. Ok, time to bring Not Jason to the Batcave to figure out what’s going on.

Vlad Masters and Alfred Pennyworth

Instant character change from both parties. Alfred is midway through talking to Bruce about over exerting himself and Vlad is midway through nearly successfully capturing Phantom.

Paulina and Wonder Woman

Paulina having to adjust with Amazonian strength and being lassoed by another party to figure out what’s happening in full (prolly Batman and his paranoid ass wanting the absolute truth <3). Diana having to adjust with being an average teenage girl who’s also high up on the Highschool food chain and pretending nothing is wrong until she can contact the League to figure out what just happened.

Tucker Foley and Dick Grayson:

Tucker swapping with Dick while Dick is at the Batcave. He’s too busy marveling at the tech and not really registering that he’s Not In His Body until he hears a roar of a motorcycle somewhere in the distance (One of the Batfamily coming back to the cave), and his reality comes crashing down. Tucker is mid ghost capture when Dick swaps with him and realizes VERY quickly that he’s not in his body and proceeds to go “fuck it. This hero he doesn’t know is genuinely struggling and he needs to blend in until he knows what’s going on. Dick doesn’t know this guys fighting capabilities but he has to AT LEAST know how to dodge well and aim well (Spoiler alert: Tucker doesn’t.

Danny Fenton and Martian Manhunter

DANNY IS AN ALIEN! THIS IS THE COOLEST THING EVER!!… Danny also has absolutely no idea how to shapeshift so he’s stuck in J’onn’s true Martian form and uncontrollably shapeshifting random parts of his body out of stress because he can hear *everyones thoughts* within a few miles. Danny’s grown to be a quick learner with powers but with all this noise he just. Can’t. Concentrate. J’onn doing his damndest to act as a regular human boy while not panicking about having absolutely zero telepathy. He’s told the boy’s friends after they noticed something wrong. He found out midway on the walk to Sam’s house that J’onn can turn invisible quite easily. It’s not the same as it is in his body but it’s not too different, kind of like flexing a different sequence of muscles to create the same movement.

you know, i think sam does often just throw out chaotic comments he thought up on the fly while he's playing, especially when he's revisiting veth in her post-canon appearances, but i also think sam is very much the kind of player to roll with what he says and make concrete character beats out of them afterward. he did this during the main campaign with veth's fear of water--that was just a bit played for jokes initially that he decided had some meat to it and asked to incorporate it into her backstory, which he did very well and to great effect. so i think when he says something lowkey insane in the post-canon oneshots etc., i always have that in mind. like yeah, there's a high likelihood that he just thought this insane thing up in the moment with no pre-planning, but it also does not mean that it can't be a significant thing he may focus on in the future. absolute crap shot with this guy (affectionate). leaves a lot of character possibilities open, though

It seems I'm outta comic juice for now, but here's a silly doodle. I've also been thinking of the grander story for this crew outside these MW related doodles (as like said before, they have their own story going on irrelevant of the Tulpar crew, I just had ideas for interactions I wanted to draw).

I may be once again bringing back a character I've tried to use many times before, but always end up scrapping bc in the past I wasn't into Scifi settings as much. I think it'll work in this case however, keeping this a smaller side story rather than making it my main focus.

Crescent ( & Nightmare )

Some people don't like it but I personally LOVE sitting down to think about Nightmare's relationships with other peculiar characters from the multiverse; like Crescent. I love Crescent! He is one of the few kids i know.

Crescent follows my conception that these strange children are created by the multiverse itself and there is no intervention between characters in any way. It's like the multiverse spits out children haha. It's a fun idea that I like to think about fankids because in a way the new aus just come out of nowhere after all. They exist one day regardless of what bond their "parents" have, they are their own person, they have their own worldview and are able to exist on their own. Crescent and Nightmare (in my interpretation) have a very strange relationship, because neither knows how to feel about the other. I would say that Nightmare ignores him most of the time and only comes close when he needs or knows he can get something. I don't see him as a father at all. They don't have a good relationship because they are very similar and I feel like they would have a lot of friction with each other. More like formal relationship? Business? They talk sometimes, that's sure, but barely.

Now I don't see Killer coming into the equation mainly because he doesn't care. And I think Nightmare doesn't let him and Crescent interact either because "it's none of his business." He probably doesn't know (and if he does he's not capable of caring about it and ignores it).

If we stick to the canon the kid wouldn't even exist but what is the fun of that? Crazy scenarios like this make me very happy. Fucking yes, lets put these three in a room and watch them deal with each other like an ant farm. We can get very interesting things. Something new even. Wink wink.

I have seen some people comparing Krs!Cale to a cat. So after some analysis and imagining, I have come to my own self-diagnosed decision to officially declare Krs!Cale as a cat. I don't know if y'all are already on it but at this point if Krs!Cale isn't a cat then On and Hong aren't either.

You ever have a moment where you reconsider something you thought a lot about in the past but then sort of turned your attention away from for a while, and your new perspective just blows the whole thing open?

Me thinking about russ and magnus during ATS/PB today after years of taking a break from HH/40K lore yielded one such series of revelations.

I was thinking about Betrayer and Russ' attempt to give Angron a lesson via the Night of the Wolf. I was thinking about Prospero Burns and Russ' belief that he's had a direct line to Magnus this whole time via Kaspar. I was thinking about that 'please'. And.

I know this is pretty much canon to the text but I've never before really Considered that one of Russ' motives in keeping this guy alive and sending him out on compliances with his Legion was (Russ believed at least) letting Magnus see the SW in action and hoping that this might influence him into trying to Avoid doing anything that might cause Russ to be sent after him.

In the past I've talked a lot about the SW keeping Kaspar around to see what would happen in terms of thinking the TS were up to something or going to do something to the Legion, which is very much the assumption the Chaos entity wanted them to make, but looking back I tbh think i slept on the concept of Russ, who canonically has taken out at least one of the Lost Primarchs in an event which is prefers not to speak (or at least the codex Strongly Implies that Russ has been used against another primarch before), and who also canonically went into the Night of the Wolf fully willing to die to make his point to Angron if only Angron could understand what he was doing.

I'm sort of compelled by the concept because in a sense Russ was letting (what he thought was) Magnus take a peek behind the barbarian mask he likes to put on, to see into a more genuine heart of his legion, letting his guard down a bit by allowing this obviously-compromised spy in. Much the same way he let the mask drop when he went to try and talk some sense into Angron, bringing up philosophy and reading and ideals that Russ' ignorant-but-noble barbarian persona would never admit to being interested in let alone reading.

And both times the gambit failed, in Magnus' case because it wasn't Magnus on the other end of the line, and in Angron's case because he was too far gone to really get what Russ was illustrating for him.

The whole thing was orchestrated so well, ironically giving the "proof" that Magnus was up to something via this sleeper agent spy that the SW were toting around with them, playing on Russ being curious enough to keep this guy around and connect the dots on the (false) links between this guy and the TS. I have this headcanon that Russ and Lorgar were actually fairly close, with Russ actually talking to Lorgar about Lorgar's writings, because he didn't seem surprised that Russ had read them and had thoughts on them in Betrayer, so I actually sort of like the idea that he had a hand in setting up the fall of Prospero? I like the tragedy of the idea that he at least had some input on the idea, being familiar enough with Russ to know he'd take the bait.

Which would make that a third time Russ got genuine with someone and had it either fail or be used against him...
