I'm kinda tired of dungeon meshi fans blatantly misinterpreting Kabru's goals, motivations, and character so they can ship him with Laios...like obviously it's awesome if you enjoy Laikabu but can you nooot twist Kabru's intentions for involving himself with the guy who constantly triggers his monster trauma and pisses him off so bad he gets brain damage so that he turns into "the guy who wants to suck Laios's dick" as his entire character? I've even seen people cut off Kabru's words to make it seem like he is admiring Laios because it would disrupt that narrative

Prongsfoot Week - Day 2

What Headcanons do you have for this ship?  IE, things like, James made the first move or Sirius got James into crosswords.  Anything really.

So the thing about me and Headcanons is that I have a lot and several contradict each other (and or canon) so consider yourself warned:

James and Sirius are able to use each others wands interchangeably and just grab whichever is closest. At some point they forget who got which wand originally.

They're so co-dependent it could be seen as unhealthy from the outside (and realistically it probably is - they're not the kind of couple who "could live without the other but would prefer not to." They would literally fall apart without the other)

Sirius knows he loves James in the all-encompassing "I don't want anyone else, ever" kind of way. James doesn't understand that the way he feels for Sirius isn't the way most ppl feel about a best friend. He thinks he needs a best friend and a girlfriend/boyfriend so he gets one. And he loves them, but he will always love Sirius more. Sirius is torn apart by loving someone he can feel slipping away and James is torn apart by failing to give everything to Sirius and give enough to his partner.

Sirius is a-spec but doesn't ever explore it because he loves James and wants to be with James and what does it matter what you call that or that he'll never want it with anyone else. He loves James and wants James and as long as he gets that he'll be grand. And if he can't he'll be broken.

Sirius played quidditch for a year or two despite disliking it because James loved it and they both had a crisis about not liking the same thing for the first time ever.

James didn't want Sirius as his secret-keeper because he knew without a doubt Sirius would die and worse before giving him up - and he couldn't stand the thought.

I don't see them wanting kids, though they'd love the kid if they ended up with one

But it wasn't mentioned anywhere other than SY's chapters and I dont trust SY's pov on SJ especially not when he thought that SJ SA-ed NYY,SJ was in love with QHT, killed LQG and helped LBH to kill YQY.

LITERALLY SY is an unreliable narrator. he THINKS he knows everything about PIDW but most of what he thought at the beginning of the novel gets disproved. its... literally an important plot point that SY makes problems for himself bc hes too hung up on what he THINKS he knows about the characters. But like..... 99% of this is shown to be wrong....

in fact... realizing that almost everything he thought about sj is wrong.... is part of what makes him realize that what he has been thinking about LBH has been wrong too. why would we have to take his word from the START OF THE NOVEL about that when he discover he was wrong about everything else?

when sy wakes up all of sj's disciples were crowded around him worried and wanting for their shizun to wake up (except lbh). that.. doesnt exactly make me feel like they all hate him.

sy claims that sj was a lecher who lusted after his students..... but when we actually see sj's pov it turns out he isnt going to the brothels for sex but because thats the only place he can feel comfortable away from men bc of his trauma. we know its canon that he cares for nyy bc sy literally uses sj's care for her as a way to get around ooc and help lbh, but theres literally nothing to imply his affection is sexual in nature. sj saves qht and drags her away from the fire bc he feels indebted to her for being his only escape from the abuse by the other members of her household, not bc hes in love with her. even when saving her puts him in danger bc thats a loose end that can and does come back to bite him. tbh i cant say its canon that hes gay.... but he certainly doesnt seem to show any interest in women and gives "all of his loyalty" to another man and waits for him like a maiden waiting for her lover to return lol

we learn in the sqh extras that not only did sj not kill lqg in the caves but he tried to save him and just failed that time. we literally SEE sj save lqg on the mission with sqh and then get embarrassed and not even ask for credit for it.

sy blames sj for "killing yqy" but when we see the 79 extras.... he literally tries to push him away and tells him to leave when hes captured so that yqy stays safe and literally mentions that when he was FORCED BY LBH to write the letter he tried to make it obvious that its a trap. why is sj being blamed for lbh killing yqy just to hurt him???? sy CLAIMS to know everything about PIDW but literally the point mxtx is making by showing that sy is wrong about everything about sj.... is that maybe he doesnt know as much as he thinks... he thinks that lbh was the cause of the jinlani city plague as well and THAT is wrong too. (it was actually..... sy's fault. for releasing zzl.. OOPS.)

I dont care if he THOUGHT sj was like that at the start of the novel. hes not actually a reliable source!! esp at the start sj definitely DID abuse lbh. i dont think most sj stans will deny that or pretend that what he did was right. but.... we dont actually see him treat any other disciples poorly. if anything sy is the one making everyone else run laps and teaching them nothing to the point that sqh mentions that the disciples turn from "scholars" into "adhd children".... sy HIMSELF admits that its a good thing sj taught his students enough that they can basically run the sect on their own so that he can be lazy and do nothing and delegate to everyone else. i imagine that he might have been a bit strict as a teacher to the other students but thats not the same as abusing all of them. its literally just lbh he had an issue with

sometimes i feel like ppl didnt even read the same book when they take everything sy says at face value. hes a flawed character who is forced to rethink all the things he thought about BOTH sj AND lbh after witnessing sj's backstory makes him realize..... he cant actually assume he knows everything about these characters just bc he read PIDW. SQH himself admits that the sv universe is based on his rough draft, NOT on the dumbed down version that he was forced to write for the $$$ that sy ended up reading

4. How easy is it to earn their trust?

hard. he has to deal w liars all day, and torque just isn’t someone who trusts easily as it is. he’s been on his own a long time, he’s encountered so many bad people in his lifetime. but most of all, when he does let someone in, they always seem to end up dead. he believes he’s cursed. it’s easier to assume no one has your best interests in mind. it keeps you alive longer. it keeps them alive longer.

but that’s not to say he doesn’t trust people at all. he trusts luz, he trusted maero. to an extent he trusted anteros bc he knew anteros would always be his most honest when he was w him. torque can read people well, for what it’s worth. it’s funny(?) bc it was only after anteros died and came back did torque not trust him. he became unrecognizable. he trusted the stripper from TnA who always used to crash on his couch. he doesn’t trust whoever this new guy is.

not really. he’s not a conversational person; he leaves that part up to whoever he’s talking to. once he’s warmed up to you though i bet he has plenty of bizarre stories from his years of being a bouncer and enforcer. famous ppl he’s tossed out, stories about victor and maero and their tattoos, even just random events from what otherwise would’ve been a normal night at TnA.

jokes aside, i get sooo excited when i think about and get to talk about torque. i’ve put a lot of work into him and his lore, even made up a whole sr1 prequel DLC concept just for him. i love him a lot and my canon would not be the same without him, he’s so important to everything i’ve created for this series.

Birth

Born in 3rd of August, 1977 to unnamed parents and was placed in an orphanage his whole teenage years. In the orphanage, Hayato was treated badly there. There are no actual stories or incidents but knowing how bad some orphanages can be in the real world, I’d headcanon he was beaten because of the simplest mistakes. I’d think there might be some sexual misconduct but I wouldn’t go that far, perhaps to some other orphans but maybe not Hayato due to how resilient and unyielding personality from a young age. It would be troublesome to try to tame someone like him in that way. It won’t break him but what would break him is seeing something like that is inflicted on someone weaker than him. Probably this is how he was ‘punished’ back then. The more stubborn he is, the more someone is going to get the end stick to penalize Hayato indirectly. Hence, why he grew up to lust and crave for justice. As we were told by Rohan Kumakura, prisoner 89 wanted to seek justice on ‘evils of the world’ whatever they are. if you fit the evil image in his mind, you are to be punished for it.

School days

During his time in the orphanage, Hayato went to school but due to the stigma of being a “throw away child”, he was not given that much of a chance to enjoy school life. He had a strict curfew so there was no chance for him to join a school club or hang out with ‘friends’ which he didn’t have. Despite that, he made sure to focus on one thing; how to get justice for himself and for everyone who were wronged, thus researching and figuring out his path after school and after leaving the orphanage—going to the police academy! Luckily, with enough school credits and doing his best to not get into fights, which at times were unavoidable due to how some would keep instigating the fights because of his upbringing. However, Hayato is smart. He’d know how to end the fight in his favor. It is something he had to learn in the orphanage (or actually he learned FROM the orphanage whenever any inspection coming, no one would see the abuse. They know how to hide the marks and injuries.) With that, Hayato managed to score enough to send application to the police academy to ensure his place is booked by the time he can leave the orphanage and no moment wasted. Not all orphans from his place got the chance to go to school, so whenever he is free, he’d teach the kids there what he knows. Mostly, how to protect themselves.

Leaving the Orphanage

On the 3rd of August 1995, the same day he turned 18 he immediately left the orphanage. There was no hesitation, no second thoughts. He was literally dying to leave that hellscape. To make sure his plan worked efficiently, he made sure all the steps were taken properly in his high school years. Hayato had saved up enough money to rent a room but because of the whole legal papers and all, he had some troubles but worked them out with some persuasion. After that, Hayato kept working part time jobs here and there waiting for his letter of acceptance. Hayato would join the police academy at the age of 18.

Police Academy

Being young and with little experience of life under his belt, he had to be careful around everyone. He kept everyone at an arm length and more. Being from an orphanage, he learned about the hierarchy the hard way. In there, who got the absolute word in any matter was the orphanage manager, then the workers, then the orphan seniors. Upset any of these and you’ll get one ticket to hell time. The seniors in particular were the toughest on the other orphans. The more they kept the ‘order’ the more rewards they get themselves. After all, they are most likely handpicked by the workers to make the work easier on them. You go against the seniors, then you are basically going against the workers. Hayato tried to understand the hierarchy in the police academy first then work his way up the ladder to be the highest. Technically, Hayato was accepted as a student not a cadet when he was 18  for two years he learned various things which he was not privileged to learn in normal school or from the orphanage [from character building to laws.] Officially, he joined when he became 20 about the legal age in J.apan. During these two years, Hayato spent it studying and working to achieve his dream. Just going into the police academy was not enough. He had to know which position he should aim for if he wants to ‘punish’ evil doers in the world. It was hard for him to figure out if he wants to do it by his own hands or through others. Though being fueled by nothing but anger and hatred, he had to go with the former—punish them himself. It wouldn’t feel right if someone else did it. Though at this point what he envisioned was through the law or he wouldn’t go through the trouble with going to the police academy.

Now he is in the ranks, he kept his same pace—work hard, keep everyone at a safe distance, and mark your targets. The training in the police academy was honestly a joke at first to him. What he had to go through in his orphanage years prepared him for the worst. Mental games the officers would pull on the cadets didn’t work on Hayato. If anything, it made him scoff and entice the anger of some officers with his snarky remarks. He excelled in whatever they thrown at him, after all he got a goal he works for. He was not liked among his peers but no one can hate him because they see him working twice harder than anyone because of his ‘background’. It did come to moments where he would bash someone’s head but is saved by none other than the new [friend] he managed to acquire—Shizue Kuranushi. Even if he was over his past, there were times certain flashbacks would get him.

Rivalry with Shizue Kuranushi

As mentioned before, Hayato didn’t have friends back in the police academy because to him, they are all rivals aiming for the position he wants. Though one in particular was almost head to head with his achievements and at times, surpassing him—Shizue. Their first meeting was not strange occurrence but she did leave a great impression on someone who does not even care to remember his senior officer’s name. The two would often challenge each other whether shooting, running, physical training etc. Sometimes she would come up over him and sometimes he would. That to say, these two dominated every training with unbreakable records for the poor peasants in their same class year. As they bonded together, Hayato confined to Shizue about a portion of his ‘plan’ which is to seek justice. That did resonate with Shizue’s own wish to climb the ladder to seek the same thing. However, she knew he had more to tell but there was nothing she can do to get the whole truth out of him--not even getting drunk at an ungodly hour on their day off. Hayato was careful to not let his inner thoughts slip for a second. It was dangerous. Years passed and the two graduated, Hayato went to his suitable job being a detective, and Shizue who conquered all odds and became a squad leader. Going by this chart,

we see that Shizue is ranked above Hayato. Because this is the right way they chose to go by. Perhaps Shizue figured that Hayato was not going to fight her for this position thus made sure to keep him around her as a detective of her precinct. Honestly, Hayato might be ambiguous and enigmatic to all but Shizue; she could read him like an open book. Perhaps due to their shared struggles and all.

Rookie Detective

Hayato was the type to work on any case thrown at him. Being a rookie, he was belittled at first, especially with his background. He knew he had to gain the trust from these idiotic old farts who sit on their chairs and do nothing properly to get the big cases. It is the ‘play nice to get what you want’ kind of act. There were cases where he had seen the senior detectives give up on because it is pain in the ass to keep searching for evidence which didn’t help his inner passion for justice and society reform. He did get into trouble with bickering with senior detectives over cases but he had to dial it down at times. Though his hot flaming hot Cheetos brain would get the better of him and whack a detective or two yelling at them to do their job properly. That leads him to a couple of days out of service and cut in his salary but that didn’t bother him. If anything, whenever he comes back he has this smug face like ‘try again’. Even if someone wanted to take him out of the force, they couldn’t. One, his record at solving crimes is impressive and kicking him out would make everyone turn at them for questions. Two, the man got the squad leader as a friend. Do you know how that elevate his ‘social’ position? Shizue, even if she didn’t do anything, just people figuring out that she is Hayato’s friend would make some things easier for the detective. Who would want to cross the squad leader, huh? Little did they know that Shizue would never give a fuck about Hayato (because he is a big boy he can do his own ass wiping) and he would never ask her for a favor even if his life depended on it.           

Downfall

Hayato Yagyu’s downfall happened when he was pursuing a criminal and followed him to the Harbor Warehouse District. This criminal is wanted for assaulting and murdering multiple women. This would be the breaking point for Hayato why? Because the criminal did something similar to what used to happen back in the orphanage. If a senior orphan hit a young orphan just because he wanted, the senior could get away from any punishment because he is on good terms with the workers. Basically, he got the connection to escape from any crime he committed or is committing or will commit. The fact that the criminal gloated that no matter what Hayato will do, the criminal’s connection will get him out in no time. The man didn’t choose the right time to rub that salt on Yagyu’s wound because the detective was holding his gun at the criminal. Feeling that the cycle is repeating over and over, the strong and with connection will come on top no matter what and the weak will be stepped on, Hayato didn’t feel himself but emptying his gun on the criminal. And as per usual, something of this scale would be reported heavily on. A detective becoming the judge, the jury and the execution, that is unheard of. Obviously, the police force had to cover this up whilst it sweep the whole force and by default open up some cans of worms which no one want to be opened. Thus, covering Hayato Yagyu’s case and manipulated and forged the evidence to present it as self-defense.

Hayato always knew he wanted to serve justice by his own hands but now, he is now sure than ever that justice is not served through the mainstream mean he thought he would do it—through the police work but ACTUALLY by his OWN hands. What he envisioned first was to do it via the proper channels and get it recognized by the legal system but now … pretty much fuck the legal system we bring justice by his own means. Hence, doing all the work by himself—killing the criminals he deem unworthy of a trial or a jail cell. Knowing how to cover up for his tracks, Hayato managed to kill more than 17 criminal. However, his gig was found by a group, a yakuza mob syndicate called the Kumakuras.

From Detective to Hitman

The reason why Hayato was found by this group is because he targeted one of their people. A guy called [X] and is important part of the Kumakuras. That did not go well with the chairman of the group and at that time it was Rohan. The chairman ordered that Yagyu to be brought in front of him. The faithful location of Yagyu gaining his new moonlight job and alias was the Kabasaki Chemical Plant. There, Rohan with his henchmen had Yagyu restrained and questioned about his strange and impressive past. Knowing Hayato kills the criminals yet when he looked over his record, there was no mention of these said killings. It means that this Hayato is the piece of pawn Rohan wanted for his group. Hayato was offered a position as an assassin and he had no choice but to accept since the other position is being 6 feet underground. His new moonlight job earned him the codename [Falco].Hayato would work normally in the morning as your local detective and by night when he is given an order by the Kumakuras, he’d turn into the assassin Falco. All this started in 2010ish so then Hayato Yagyu was in his thirties. This did a huge blow to his mindset, his values and certainly his ambition.

Breaking free?

His first hope of breaking from this vicious cycle he got himself into was his meeting with Hitomi Sagan. Their faithful meeting was when Hayato was following a target but he got the better of him and shot him in the stomach. Hayato assessing the situation, it would be foolishness to pursue in this case so he opt to escape and finally collapsed nearby Ikume Shrine. At that time, he thought that this is the end of him. All the things he had done is coming to bite him in the ass when someone came to his aid. The elementary teacher, Hitomi came to his rescue. She brought to a mob doctor called Dokuta Yogano after managing to flee the men pursing Hayato. (let’s not mention that he assaulted her by a kiss smh.) This was the spark Hayato needed to regain in 2013.

Because of their faithful encounter, Hayato became to meet Hitomi in secret because of his position and her position. It would look unfavorable for Hitomi’s look—a single mother suddenly bringing a strange man to her home. Not to mention her job as an elementary teacher, bad rep will affect her job. However, he never told her his real name just Falco. The little she knows about him, the less harm she can come her way, and if he managed to pull himself away from her, she… couldn’t find him. Though all that said and done, he was falling deeper and deeper in this peace and warmth that Hitomi had given him. The two went on dates and Hitomi realized how soft and adorable Falco actually is. Sharing another kiss and it is implied that the two grow closer about their backgrounds; Hitomi telling Falco about her best friend. Afterwards, Hitomi decided to introduce Falco to Iris who was 12 at that time. The two bonded quickly and she kept calling him uncle.

The Cyclops Serial Killings

Detective Yagyu was assigned to a new case which they dub as “Cyclops Serial Killings.” Four bodies of women were found missing their right eyes. During this time, Falco grew even closer to the Sagan family to which Iris suggested he marries her mom so he can become Dad and it was non other than Falco who gave Iris the idea of the name A-Set.

Because of this newfound feeling in his heart, Falco decided to do something almost crazy. He went to Rohan and asked him if he can stop being an assassin—to walk free from his job for the Kumakuras. Rohan was surprisingly ok with it but he asked him to do one last job which is to kill the Sagan family. The reason he wants to walk away from this life is the key to it. Of course, Falco had to accept because knowing his refusal means someone else will do the hit. To save his family, he finally gave up and went to seek Shizue’s help. He confessed to everything from A to Z. Surprisingly, as well, she was on his side. She told him about ABIS and the Psync Machine. The plan was simple, switch places with Rohan, issue command to leave the Sagans and then Falco would be able to save his family which he has now to …abandon them.

The plan was set in motion, Shizue brought Rohan to HQ, drugged him and took him to the psync room to swap with Hayato. The thing they didn’t expect was that Rohan and an accomplice—Saito Seijima were the killers they are looking for. To their shock, Rohan escaped in Hayato’s body and went to kill the Sagans. In the confrontation, Hayato (in Rohan’s body) shot at Rohan (in Hayato’s body) but Hitomi stepped in to save Hayato (Rohan.) That led to shooting Hitomi in her left arm and side which after the surgery made it unusable. Guilt eating him up, Hayato left them.

To finish what he started, Hayato went to the Kumakura to pose as Rohan and issue that the hit on the Sagans is off. Next, he went to meet up with Shizue so they can trick Saito Sejima for their investigation. Saito did confess of his crimes to Hayato/Rohan but then finds about that Rohan is not Rohan so he captures him and sends him to the Abandoned Chemical Plant. There, they tortured him and used truth serum to fess up with everything. Saito now knows about the Psync machina, the prototype in Chiba. He orders for it to be brought to him and after a while the machine is in Saito’s hands to abuse.

Not only Saito tortured Hayato but he forced a swap on him to take over Rohan’s body. For the swap to happen, Saito removed his own eye and Rohan’s and made the swap. Tragically, an error occurred and the body swap went through, however, the memories part didn’t transfer successfully. Making Hayato in Saito’s body and waking up with no recollection of what happened, he escaped after seeing a lot of men around him.

In his escape, Shizue found him but thought he was Saito himself but talking to him she realized that it is none other than Hayato but without his memories so she took him in and faked or made a new family registry for him with the help of someone you wouldn’t think of but So Seijima himself, Saito’s father and MPD. Then, Hayato who was Falco who turned to Rohan then swapped with Saito is now called Kaname Date, the new Psyncer for ABIS.

New Identity, new connections

With Hayato now being in Saito’s body and gaining a new identity which is Kaname Date, he is to the world the funny energetic detective that house the artificial intelligent aiball in his left eye—Aiba. The two met in 2014 (counting Hayato’s real age would be 37) and started working together. A problem come with being in Saito’s body is that Aiba had to keep an eye on his oxytocin level and supply it to his brain directly otherwise, well… he goes nuts. Allegedly. Renju

Renju confessed to Date about his past but that didn’t stop Date from being his friend. Yes, what he did was wrong but Renju had no hand in the actual murders themselves. Date admires the perseverance of Renju, something he needs to push himself to do.

Shoko

I honestly, for my interpretation I see Date ‘tolerating’ Shoko. She may be not a strong friend to him but he can understand that she is going through a lot. But he does not understand that the need to resort to violence and against non-other than her daughter. Honestly, had Date is still Hayato, he might have done something to separate Mizuki from Shoko early on. No one knows what abuse is more than Hayato himself, no family, no friends nothing, just alone and he had to face lots of hardships on his own. Meanwhile, Mizuki got parents but they don’t love her properly like any parents should??? That’s crazy. She deserves better in his eyes. Thus why Date is trying to come around and understand Shoko a little bit. Yes, still no excuse to hit a child even if you are feeling like the whole weight of the world on you—you chose to give birth to her. She didn’t choose this life. Deal with it.

Mizuki

Being the daughter of his good and ok friends, she obviously was special to him. Again, just because he is in Saito’s body and without his Hayato’s memories didn’t mean he found himself always weak to kids. Date got a soft spot for her, perhaps due to what he knows about her parents and due to how she always presents herself as strong and capable of handling herself. It nags something inside of his soul deeeep inside. A soft voice saying ‘that’s you’ at one point in his life. The struggling, the pretending, the putting up fronts etc. Date just can’t help but look after her even if Renju didn’t ask him to take her if things were to go south.

A Guardian

When Renju and Shoko divorced in 2015 (38 years old Hayato), Date was automatically tasked with watching over Mizuki. Honestly, he had his doubts. If Renju couldn’t have time to be with her when they were living together and he is her father, what does he think that Date would have time to be with her? He’s a detective. He could go all over the place in search of evidence and clues and she would be all alone all over again. It bothered him but thankfully, Boss does not give him more than one case to work on so he can come back home on a reasonable time and be with Mizuki more.

True that their relationship took a while for it to develop with how hurt Mizuki is. Date cannot hope to win her trust that easily but he never gave up and kept pestering her day and night. Slowly, they come to accept each other. For her birthday he gave her adorabbit which she didn’t like at first but then grew attached to it. The adorable fact between them that they make each other like stuff the other didn’t know about or care about. Mizuki started collecting stickers which Date started helping her then she grew less interested in but Date kept collecting them for her.

Her time in school was rough for a young girl whose parents got divorced. Date suggested, with obviously calculated plan, to teach her the art of defending herself—martial arts. Of course, he just unlocked the beast inside of Zuki and since then she kept breaking his kneecaps. (jk)

The New CK

Since his new identity, it has been 6 years. The new case he got is the murder of his friend, Shoko—Mizuki’s mom, November 1st, 2019. Hayato is 42 and it has been five years since Mizuki started living with him.

Also! Also! Why the heck to ppl end these unhealthy bingqius with set ups that leave them just utterly isolated? They've alienated all the rest of the Sect, LBH chases everyone else away from jealousy, but it's okay cuz SQQ is sooooo happy with his new life as a spoiled husband. T-T do ppl even realize how horrible that sort of life would really be? Like again, write it if it makes you happy, buy don't tag it happy ending. It's can be an unreliable narrator but if those are actually good the narration at some point will disagree with the character's POV. Will somehow state that the author doesn't believe what the character does. If the narration says this is great and everyone is happy, and the characters go yes we're happy, but the actual story depicted is one where one person sacrifices for another while the other just takes and further isolates them.... Yeah... Look I'm not a purity person. I'm not trying to yuck your yum. I just think you should be truthful about how you look at your ships. When you lust after fictional serial killers or genocidal tyrants in your fiction, please just, grain of salt. Don't act like it's goals or happy endings. T-T don't tag it happy ending when a character ends in an abusive manipulative relationship. If someone writes these messed up dynamics and actually acknowledges them as messed up and unhealthy i actually have ended up *enjoying* them. There is nothing wrong with messed up stories.

It's just, ugh, it's the bane of the Internet, because what I want is nuisance. It's the difference between (I wish I could come up with a perfect example rn but I can't) like Lolita vs any of the many stories with teenages love interests paired with adult men. Lolita is from the perspective of the groomer but it begins with a blurb telling the reader that he's on trial for crimes and trying to defend himself. The author made sure the reader knows that this is unreliable narration. Or a serial killer show that makes sure you understand that the killer is messed up and wrong while also letting you get invested in them vs one that excuses and justifies their behavior through the narration to the point people sympathize more with the killer than the victims. It's that sort of shit. I read a fic where after countless murders and tortures and destruction, including torturing SY himself, LBH was utterly forgiven and SY married him. Treated as oh, it's just water under the bridge, all that horror (worse torture and more deaths that SVSSS canon). Like could SY forgive it? He's a very unhealthy man, he actually might. My problem was all the other characters and the narration treating his choice as not just correct but overdue or expected. That any character that did decent was just doing it out of jealousy cuz they didn't get to fuck SQQ. That's the difference! When a character has complete justification to complain about the POV character's choices, the story should treat those complaints seriously even if the POV character doesn't. If for instance LQG or YQY complain about LBH but SQQ ignores it and then the story just goes on and everything is just fine and the complaints are forgotten about by the story, then the author is reinforcing that SQQ was correct to ignore them. That their complaints were worthless.

I just. Ugh. SVSSS is a master class of unreliable narrator. I like that about it though I wish even the story itself actually did more to reveal just how unreliable SY was. He was always lying to himself and us about everything. His emotions, his feels, his desires. Everything he did was through such a lense. It's actually rather fun, peeling back the layers, trying to see the truth under it, and asking what it would take to actually make a man like that be truthful to himself. You only get a few glimpses of that at the end of the story and even then SY is still pulling the wool over his eyes even when SQH is trying to make him face things.

Yet so many authors just want to lie SY told about himself to be real. The uncomplicated man who's just so kind and oblivious and just a little bun to be protected. I want the messy man with horrible flaws and self destructive tendencies who is too in his own head to realize the consequences of his actions. Who is both thoughtlessly passive and manipulatively kind. So caught up in the story that he died obsessing over that he still refuses to live his life.

I’m trying really hard not to be Peerless Cucumber so I’m ranting here rather than in the comments of the fic. But sometimes I feel like I’m the only person who hates SY being a overly kind suicidally self sacrificing idiot. Like everyone forgets he only nearly killed himself when it was faking his death or because he feared fates worse than death. That his obsession with LBH’s happiness above all was a sign of a deeply mentally disturbed man and not relationship goals. Like you can write unhealthy BingQiu. Knock yourself out, but please, for the love of god, don’t treat that behavior like its a happy ending or healthy. What the narration treats as good vs what the characters treat as good matter. It just annoys me so much. Part of what I like about SY is how much of a two faced mess of a hypocrite he is. He’s cruelly kind. Not some precious disney princess with only a sassy mouth. He had no regard for himself, living vicariously through his fav character, like many a chronically online youth. Its messed up and messy. A good ending for him is LQG and learning how to be a proper teach and take care of himself. That doesn’t mean I don’t like BingQiu, it can be so fun, but the canon end for them is messy and so many fan fics just make it worse. T-T I take comfort in the few who’ve done deep dives on SY vs SJ and where they are similar and different. Cuz they aren’t polar opposites.

I actually don't think any of the brothers have any/many real meaningful relationships outside each other (& even then it's dysfunctional) which explains why they all latch on to MC so easily once they realise MC genuinely cares for them. Like Asmo could literally have anyone but he's fixated on MC probably cause not only are they the only who'd be able to fill his needs for a fulfilling emotional relationship but they'd also be someone who he can be sure genuinely likes him without having to worry about his powers affecting them.

All that being said I still stand by the idea that from the Brothers Asmo has the most friends (someone mentioned in the last post that Satan canonically also has a lot of friends which is something I completely forgot) even if they aren't meaningful friendships (like Lucifer & Diavolo), or ones based off shared interests (like Satan's) but at least they don't actively want him dead, well at least most of them don't (unlike Mammon's), and they're people he could actively meet up with (unlike Levi's. Also HC that Asmo's love language is touch? Platonically or not he needs to have physical contact with people).

Maybe I'm being too optimistic but I do think Solomon cares about Asmo (maybe not as much as he cares about power and knowledge but still) and I don't mean in the romantic sense in case that's what you meant by feelings (though given Asmo's track record and the fact that they've probably had a pact for centuries I do think they've slept together. casual hookups that don't really affect their working relationship). What I meant was after so long together it'd be a little impossible to not at least feel a sense of fondness towards each other, though I do think it's very possible that Asmo's more attached than Solomon is

I think ppl that hate her don’t realize they probably did have a honeymoon phase. She’s practical and has experience so for her quit her job to be with him exclusively he must’ve been really special to her BUT then he got her pregnant and abandoned her only to come back for the gang and act like she’s a pest for even asking him to do the bare minimum with Jack when she had to give up her life to be a mom. About John and Abi’s relationship:

Ok, so bear with me anon! I have been reading a lot of opinions on this and I think there are some interesting ideas even if I don’t agree with all of them.

First of all - you’re right. Abigail had to give up everything. She hates motherhood sometimes and does resent Jack at times - BUT she does love him! That’s very very obvious. I think she just wishes she had more freedom and was more appreciated by her family and friends. A lot of young mothers feel this way. I mean, the camp seems to treat her as a source of gossip and not much more. For canon reasons, she of course has Jack, but it would have been interesting if she gave him up for adoption. I read a dark Abigal/John fic about that. Their relationship was “fine” after that. It was an interesting what-if fic. As far as their relationship goes, I honestly don’t know if they had a honeymoon phase. They might have!  Some people think she wouldn’t have stopped selling herself the minute she joined the gang, but it wouldny have worked because traveling gangs don’t usually have prostitutes set up shop because it’s A. Too dangerous B. It costs too much. You’d lose money. 

There are three ways to think of John / Abi’s relationship. A. Most people think she was serious no matter what from the start and John felt the same. Then Jack was conceived and John was spooked. - the most popular theory. B. Abigail loved John, but he didn’t love her as much so she trapped him into the relationship by having a baby.  This is a very popular idea and I have to say, there are some interesting things about it. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong.   Abigail would have known a lot about contraception from her working days. She could have deliberately chosen not to for a trapping reason or maybe she felt safe with John and felt like “Oh, it’s true love! This is different I’m okay with this. If I get pregnant, we’ll be okay!”

 Or, they did have contraception but it failed. My only problem this theory is would Abigail be willing to risk her body, her life, drain her funds, and her free time for this? Even if she thought that trapping John would work - it would still be risky for her life and then there’s the chance that it would still follow canon in that left her. (which it did.) If someone wants to bring up a potential imbalance I think it would be more likely that she loved John more than he loved her and the pregnancy was an accident

C. The last theory is that they were just a fling and she accidentally fell pregnant. He ghosted. She didn’t want to risk her life more than she had to so she had Jack. (She could have given him up.)  They didn’t really love each other - it was just lust. People say that would explain why she seems to resent Jack so much. These same people have said that Abigail only wants John alive so she can pressure him to contribute. This one is nasty because I saw some saying she was crying because she’d be losing money. That’s Reddit for you. But Like, that doesn’t even make sense? He wasn’t contributing and he wouldn’t magically start once he survived? Unless they think he had an epiphany or something which would be interesting.  Others have the fling idea, but then say that they fell in love with each other over the course of chapters 3 and 4.

IDK . I guess it depends on how malicious/manipulative someone views Abigail.

Like I said, I may not agree with some of it, but all theories have interesting points. None of them explain Abigail’s coldness towards John in rdr 1. Maybe she was tired of his shit, idk. Honestly, for a long time - I didn’t think John and Abigail were compatible. At all. I had that line of thought back when I played rdr 1. They just seemed too different. Now I think there is affection and love in rdr 1 but it’s still stunted I guess? Maybe I should not gatekeep love just because it’s not the way I show it. (which is weird because I have been compared to Abigail, but I’m also from Eastern Europe and some of us show love differently.) Playing through RDR 2 relationship isn’t as healthy as it should be but they went through hell from birth, to the main story to the end of the epilogue. There is definitely love shown in rdr 2.  A small part of me would have been interested to see them end up with different people just to see what would have happened. (No, I’m not saying this for self-insert reasons.) What are your opinions/ theories and why?

especially beast of darkness/neogriffith tbh, i am super into this concept. or even a role reversal au where guts was the one who became a godhand member or mb apostle.

and femto/guts also has its appeal. or femto/beast of darkness, monster4monster.

guess i’ll put this under a cut in respect to ppl who follow me more for meta than long posts about monsterfucking lol

side note to kick this off: i once had a shockingly coherent berserk dream where femto turned out to be a periodic temporary transformation, kinda like a werewolf, and he’d turn back into post-torture griffith after wreaking some evil havok, and griffith wouldn’t remember anything. and this led to guts having sex with griffith-as-femto (who was less hilarious petty ex a la black swordsman arc and more like, the kind of atmospheric scary horror movie monster who motionlessly watches you from across the street and appears in the bathroom mirror after you look away briefly lol) in order to distract him from like, leaving to go murder people. and guts framed this to himself as like penance for abandoning griffith but at the same time he was also into it because despite being terrifying femto was still a version of griffith who he loves and has been pining for for 4 years. it was a high quality dream tbh.

but anyway, like the way their relationship is depicted as so obsessive and singular i feel like there’s something v compelling in either of them becoming the extra evil embodiment of the worst aspects of themselves and the other still wanting him bc even that darkness is an aspect of the person he loves? like that’s p canon actually

(not to mention how suggestive the beast of darkness gets)

like either of them, canon guts or au griffith where guts became a monster, hating the other for destroying everything and ruining his life but still high key “longing” for him.

relatedly, the canon mutual pining thing during the golden age but then the first time they act on their repressed sexual feelings is after one becomes a monster and consequently has lost that repression and has nothing stopping him from acting on his lust? and the other is like, oh no you’re a monster and i hate you now but also i’ve been lying to myself about not wanting this for 8 years and i’ll take what i can get.

doesn’t quite fit with actual canon (one can argue femto is even more repressed lol) but whatever, actual canon sux.

or both of them having succumbed to their inner darknesses but still finding that spark of light and their own humanity in each other is srsly good stuff.

like lbr neogriffith letting beast of darkness guts fuck him instead of fight him and predictably feeling all those not actually frozen feelings even tho it’s just like, a vague twisted echo of what their relationship could’ve been once… also good. maybe focusing on the physical to distract himself from/ignore his feelings to the point where he doesn’t notice he’s got tear tracks running down from the corners of his eyes afterwards. i mean what better time to get that payoff on ‘the crystalization of your last tear shed’ right?

also there’s a devilman spinoff/missing scene manga where akira lost his consciousness to the demon he melded with and ryo brought him back by kissing him. and i’m js

the sex version would work v well in berserk. imagine guts waking up from a prolonged stretch of time as the beast of darkness while balls deep in neogriffith and just clinging to him like an anchor, at least until he comes and eventually regains the presence of mind to assess the situation lol.

what other angles are there? idk i feel like there’s a lot of room for playing around with the monster versions of these characters.

i mean i get why ppl often don’t want to even ship post-eclipse griffguts let alone their evil monster versions bc miura poisoned that well, but honestly idgaf personally, i’m not gonna let that stop me. ngriff/femto/beast of darkness all have so much potential here.
