kaiser is with you the moment the clock strikes midnight on your birthday. amidst the warm glow of the birthday candles, your pinky finger begins to draw a red thread around itself, looping twice before it floats in the air and stretches somewhere outward.

only the two people whose fates are intertwined with one another can see their red strings.

except when kaiser looks down at his own pinky, his red loop is motionless, still.

he goes to watch as you look in an off-way direction, supposedly where your red string is leading you. most people often uncover emotions such as surprise or anticipation, perhaps some anxiety if they were truly feeling the depths of fate.

but dread paints itself on yours when you realize you do not belong to kaiser. and kaiser does not belong to you. you two... are not fated to be together.

shakily, you look up to see a darkness in his eyes. you freeze, calling out his nickname quietly to see if he was alright.

he is not. clearly.

he snatches your hand and searches endlessly for that strike of red that mirrors his own. when he can't, his chest heaves and his nails dig into your pinky finger, as if trying to remove the string that he can't see. if you can't belong to him, then you can't belong to anyone. no one is worthy of you if he isn't.

you cry out in pain when he draws blood, another patch of red that is all the more menacing than the one tattooed on your skin. a hand finally shoves him off and pushes him against the wall with a rather painful thud. you bumble apologies to him whilst cradling your blood-streaked hand, but your words fall deaf on his ears.

kaiser can't understand. your souls aren't bounded together? but they are. they always have been. you and him have been together for ten years around each other's orbit. how could you not be each other's soulmates?

you're the one thing good in his life that he thought he'd have forever and always, so it's unfair and viciously cruel that the universe averted gracing your existence to someone else that isn't him. but he can't live like that. do everything and anything cruel to him... but don't take you away from him. you're all he has, can't you see?

he refuses to accept the fact that you and him are star-crossed. kaiser refuses to acknowledge that you aren't his. because he knows deep down that you are, and he'll make sure of it, regardless of what that stupid string tells you.

he'll use every pair of scissors in the world to cut your string if he has to, and will do everything in his power to retie it back to him.

the epic score is very fun in a lot of ways and odysseus murdering all the suitors at the end is delightfully chilling and very cathartic but i gotta say thinking abt odysseus’s perspective on that whole scene really makes me laugh like. you have been away from home for 20 years fighting first the biggest war in mythohistory and then what really seems like every fucking thing that could try to kill you in the entire adriatic sea. literally all your friends are dead and you just beat the shit out of an actual god to get back to the only two people in the world who matter to you anymore. and then you finally get back to your house after 20 FUCKING YEARS and it’s trashed bc a fucking frathouse worth of nepo babies who were like ten last time you saw them moved in while you were gone, bullied your family for well over a decade, and are currently planning how they’re gonna murder your son and assault your wife. no wonder he’s fuckin pissed

Ingo and Emmet have the ability to divine the future, with one issue. Ingo can see the timeline of fate, Emmet can see the events to unfold, and neither can see what the other does. Ingo doesn't know whether what is to come is good or bad, and Emmet can only see events out of order.

They are able to bypass this by holding hands and using full concentration (aka co-divination) to see the full future, however they usually just use their individual visions and piece them together. Co-divination is reserved for either actual fortune-telling services or to investigate a vision either one feels may be concerning.

anyways other fun notes:

Ingo's ability to know when things happen but not what they are make him patient and paranoid. There have been instances where he predicts an event and prepares for danger, then when it actually arrives it turns out to be something perfectly fine (eg. a surprise birthday party)

Emmet's knowledge of future events stresses him out, he gets wrinkles and creases much faster than Ingo, and essentially ages earlier

The twins often used these abilities to aid them in battle growing up, which later led to them pursuing the skill further until they developed their own sense for battle

Besides working as Subway Bosses, they sometimes operate as fortune tellers for those who request their help

They have seen a whole scope of different events, good and bad, and are generally used to talking about any kind of scenario. Some people interpret their lack of reactions to mean that they don't care about the future, but that is not the case

There are anomalies in their visions, certain periods or events don't make any sense to them and they can't make them out clearly
