talking to macdennis shippers makes me realize how much more i enjoy charden lmfao
#i love early seasons macden a lot but i think they sort of. fucked mcdn beyond repair in a lot of ways#where they Need to derail the show and do some genuine repairs#if theyd stayed the way they were in s5 itd be like oh yeah nbd theyre fucking lol#but now its. complicated#which isn't inherently bad but i think theres so much to unpack that its just like. if its not done right its going to be a disaster#charden have remained actual friends#it doesn't feel like a huge jump for them to be on good terms#but everyone immediately assumes something must have happened offscreen if macden are getting along#like. its overcomplicated! idk! i think dennis' entire character is overcomplicated#and it makes it really hard because he is So established to just have a fun plot#also i think theyve slowly fucked mac's character and have no intention of fixing it like they have with charlie and dennis' characters#like charlie was made Too Dumb and theyve been remedying that by making him a little more grounded and serious#dennis was Too Angry and they're remedying it by having him develop a way of burning off pressure without exploding#but everything theyve developed for mac has just sort of been left behind#if there was a moment to show how he'd changed it wouldve been post mfhp but it almost seemed like it was a complete reversal#he devolved lol#he was definitely like. better. in s16. but he's lost so much complexity while the others have gained more#and it feels incredibly unbalanced#dee is just a nothing character now too which (while i disagree with a lot of the complaints abt her in s16) can be seen clearly now#but mac is just.#okay im done rambling bye#ada speaks#idk how to explain but macden as a dynamic feels like it holds both of their characters back#and it rarely brings anything new or interesting to the table#dennis shows a different side of himself around charlie#but he is. mostly just angry or exasperated around mac

Girl help im thinking about Sylus with a partner who has wings
Dragon Sylus who doesn't really get the need for preening but learns how to do it anyway. Teaches them in turn about how to care for his wings. They have regular caretaking sessions. If they're upset, he runs his fingers through their feathers to calm them down
Modern day Sylus who keeps up with when they need to be preened and their molt cycles. If they're trying to hide how itchy they are, he's sitting them down and getting all the pin feathers they can't reach and tenderly spreading oil along the base of their feathers and just treating it like a much needed spa day. Jokingly threatens to clip their wings if they don't take care of themself
Dragon Sylus going on flights with them. Soaring through the air, swirling around each other, chasing each other, sharing maneuvers. Grabbing each other and kissing as they plummet to the ground like eagles do, letting go at the last second and flying back up with giddy laughter
They leave the cave to hunt one day but don't come back. Dragon Sylus goes out to look for them, only to find their body tossed aside, blood pouring from their back now beginning to congeal. There's so much bustle in the market place as an auction goes on. Townsfolk lifting their stolen wings above their heads, stretching them out, like it's some silly game. He carries them back home, covered in blood and carrying their wings strapped to his back
Modern day Sylus following a loose trail of feathers, plucked out by their kidnappers to purposefully guide him to their location, as if they'd be able to overpower him. There's so many; more than Mephisto can keep up with as the bird swoops and plucks them out of the air and off the wet ground. When he finds them, their wings are almost completely plucked bare, with pinpricks of blood and raw, exposed skin. The kidnappers never stood a chance

hohoho i am writing a remus & sirius confrontation that is ending up a little too mean and it’s verging on the edge of not fitting into FoD but by god, is it satisfying 😈😈😈
“Oh, stop pretending, Remus.” There’s a part of Sirius, not insignificant, that tells him to shut the fuck up. To bite back the words as he’d always done. They don’t expect it of him but he is perfectly capable of maintaining a civil tongue when needed. He just doesn’t want to, today. “You’ve always resented us, haven’t you?”
“Padfoot, do you even hear yourself—?” Remus’ amber eyes are bright, almost feverish, and Sirius knew that all he had to do was push.
So he did.
- brought to u by ‘i’ve been thinking about remus and i also recently read a fic that blindsided me w commentary on james’ and sirius’ social positions intimidating remus into compliance as an excuse for his cowardice and general temperament and got incredibly annoyed at how he is, yet again, victimised so i shall now endeavour to turn that idea around on its head using the ‘ol ‘u cannot help someone who does not want to be helped’ adage so help me god’

Remembering I can draw fanart for my own fics, SO BEHOLD! The most mentally sound halves of a fusion imaginable! Technically a redraw of art I did way earlier for the same fic! Flexing my art muscles and thinking about these two is good for the soul. Love them. Bastards to write though. I can't wait to write them fused back together, but we're not here yet and it's AGONY.

Promotional for Tate's company in my interp of A Better World AU.
Tumblr media
FULL TEXT BENEATH THE CUT‼️‼️
God, I love exploring what he can do if he hadn't suffered through his father abandoning them and then YEARS of caretaker burnout as he tried in vain to heal his dad. What if he hadn't learned to fear his intellect and skill. What if Appalachia hadn't been cut out of him by being raised in the Bay Area. What if his abilities and cultural identity were both nurtured and encouraged by loving parents and a strong educational support system. What then. 👁️
I think he definitely still has his issues, because public figures often do lol. Fame causes so many problems. But fuck if I don't wanna let this lil scruffy genius out of his mental cage of repression, burnout, and depression. I think he's wild, enthusiastic, and has so much heart and spirit underneath all those layers of bullshit. 30 years of suffering and he is in his 30s, the divergence of the AU puts him on a radically different path from childhood and that makes him a TOTALLY new person.
On the highest peaks in the world, the strongest tethers aren't your rope, but the emotional ties which unite your climbing team and keep you connected to those waiting for you back home. Whether it's by blood or by choice, Tater Higgs McGucket understands the importance of family. Son of revolutionary inventor and co-founder of the Institute of Oddology Fiddleford Hadron McGucket, Tate describes his father as his closest friend, collaborator, and mentor. In collaboration with family friend and other co-founder of the Institute Stanford ("Ford") Pines, the three first designed their renowned supplemental oxygen delivery system after an expedition studying anomalies in the Himalayas.
"Our investigation took us to Camp 1 of Manaslu," Tate described in an exclusive interview with Mountaineering Monthly last week, "And I was shocked by the amount of traffic. This was some of the roughest terrain on the planet, but we saw more people out there than on some of my hiking trips back home in Oregon. . . Ford was our interpreter, and after talking with the locals, we realized that there were all these companies selling tickets to the top — with sherpas puttin' themselves on the line just to ferry tourists to the summit."
The influx of inexperienced climbers has had disastrous consequences, as Tate witnessed firsthand. "A lot of these people, they're physically and mentally capable of makin' that kinda climb, but maybe they don't follow best practice. You can summit without any oxygen, if ya stop and acclimatize along the way. But that takes a while, so it can be really temptin' to ignore your body and throw an oxygen bandaid at the problem. But then you're puttin' yourself in an emergency situation if it fails. While we were there, one of those climbers ran out, and a sherpa had to run more oxygen up there. I told him there was a storm a-comin', but he went up anyway. And we ended up losin' 'em both."
Tate's growing twang was underscored by a nervous bouncing of his leg, and he took a moment to collect himself before resuming the interview.
"Dad and I had a look at these open circuit breathing apparatuses. While they were reliable, we saw they were plum wasteful. Knew we could make somethin' better. There's a growin' culture of risk-takin' 'round them mountains. And maybe we cain't stop the industry that's causin' these problems, but we can at least make it safer for them climbers. 'Cuz at the end of the day, regardless of what ya think about these people? With an accident like that, there’s people left behind that're a-hurtin' somethin' fierce. Partners, friends, kids without parents. I mean, just the thought of losin' my dad like that is enough to break my heart — but that's reality, for both the families of that climber and the sherpa who died tryin' to save him. . . Naw, I reckon we can do better."
That was how the youngest McGucket, who had become a household name in the 1990s for his work in designing personal computers with his father's company, first ventured into the world of alpinism. But what he hadn't expected was to fall in love during the process.
"I always needed nature," he explained, "I get overstimulated awfully easy, and so I go out there to clear my head. Been hikin' and fishin' since I was a kid. . . And so, after workin' with climbers to test this equipment — I saw a lot of them eight-thousanders up close, right? And one day, I just knew I had to see it from the top."
But having become familiar with the dangers involved, Tate knew that preparing himself for such a climb would be no easy task.
Luckily, he found a trainer in Ford's twin brother, Stanley Pines.
“Stanley is a stand-up guy. Real old school. Throws a hell of a punch, catches a hell of a catfish.” Tate said of his mentor, “He’s a fighter. So I knew I needed him, because all it takes is one slip up or act of god for these expeditions to turn life-or-death. And he’s been great. Neither of us knew much about rock climbin’ or mountaineering before all this. But we’ve learned together. And having summited a few eight-thousanders now, I can tell ya, I wouldn’t be here without his help.”
Also aiding in his expeditions were his prototype real-time weather and vital monitoring systems, which have since become standard issue in all McGucket brand protective wear. But Tate is most proud of his high-frequency beacon system, which allows climbers to communicate with their partners and first responders — even from inside perilous crevasses.
"The danger of avalanche or serac collapse is real. There are times when your life just ain’t in your own hands. Our systems allow climbers to communicate when they’re entering or exiting a perilous area, and can send out an SOS. They’re also constantly pinging, so in the event somethin’ does happen, they’ll help your climbing partners or first responders find you.”
But high altitudes aren’t the only place you’ll find the twin peaks of McGucket Mountaineering. Tate’s inventions have seen heavy use by first responders of all stripes, from firefighters to wilderness search and rescue — and he has recently signed a contract to manufacture respirators for medical use.
"At the end of the day, it’s all about making it home safely.” Tate concluded, “You gotta prioritize what matters most. You can do incredible things in this world, but none of it matters if you can’t share them with the people who love you.”

To be fair I’m listening to YA garbage literature to fall asleep on purpose because its just engaging enough to quiet my overthinking but useless enough that my brain can let it go and fall asleep
But like… I’m listening to A Court Of Mist And Fury and like….am I supposed to hate Rhysand and prefer Tamlin? Like is that the authors intent? Because…
Dude like Rhysand is a douchebag for sure but wrapped up in his mysoginist/jerky language he seems way more respectful of Feyre than Tamlin is.
Like he’s always like oh yeah? You don’t like that? You don’t like what I did? Here’s the tools to fight me. Now fight me. Everything he does that’s super douchebaggy seems to come with a taunt, like “I see in you an equal who can best me. I’m poking at you to make you fight back the way I know you can”
Whereas Tamlin is…idk the crappy stereotype of the “nice guy” that’s “so loving” but wants to just hide her away and shelter her and not trust her to protect herself or even have the knowledge of what’s going on in the world at large.
I kinda hate Tamlin and like Rhysand and I’m pretty sure that’s not what the author wants me to think lol

Why do I feel like Logan would also bring some of the vibe from that deleted scene to the bedroom, like he tells Scott to go ahead and give him an order....but then obeys it as poorly as possible just to annoy Scott before finally complying

she's sitting with her feet kicked up in his lap, the room quiet around them. it's odd, how easy it's been to fall back into old habits. there's something well-worn about the way things are between them, but a flicker of something new, too. henley had stopped fiddling with her laptop a while ago, but danny is still absorbed in what he's reading. she just watches him for a moment. the whirlwind had been fun– exhilarating, actually– and about a thousand other adjectives that would take too long to list. she knows it'll grow old eventually, but for now? the quiet is really nice.
she lifts a foot to jostle at his leg with her left heel. 'hey.' there's an impish little smile, like she finds just the act of disrupting him a little devious. in truth, it's because she's coiled like a snake, ready to pounce on him with the surge of affection that's threatening to bubble up out of her chest. there's something fun about flustering him with that kind of thing. and, of course, there's the added bonus that she means it. 'i'm proud of you.'
