the racers are down bad for the mechanic, though out of (dis)respect, there’s an unspoken rule of them being off-limits. but these racers can’t help but want the mechanic for themselves. even kira’s not immune to their charm ohohoho.

Do you guys remember the first time you read/watched Harry Potter and thought Snape was responsible for everything only to be hit in the stomach when you found out alongside the characters it was Quirrell all along?

Do you remember reading about Sirius Black escaping jail and wanting to murder Harry and do you remember being ready to throw hands at him? And then do you remember that sinking feeling when you realized he’d been wrongfully imprisoned for twelve years and was painted as the guilty one when it was Peter all along?

Do you remember hearing about the death eater Regulus Black, following in Voldemorts’ footsteps only to be hit with the crushing truth later, that he’d betrayed him and died doing so and no one knew about it and you had, yet again, judged him too harshly?

Do you remember hating Draco and progressively coming to understand the circumstances that led him to that?

Do you remember loving Dumbledore and realizing suddenly how badly he wronged Harry?

Do you ever think about those moments, and how we all judged those characters and fell into the easy trap? Time and time again? How easy it was to gulp down one version and not realize how biased it was?

I feel like if there’s one thing those books taught me it was to never get along with one version of a story. You can’t hear one side and admit it’s the final truth. You can’t judge someone through one lens and not admit it’s skewed. You can’t erase circumstances. You can’t shut out the other side of a story because one is sufficient for you.

If you want to crucify someone for something they did, remember all those times you were ready to crucify Snape, Sirius, Regulus, Draco and so on.

I’m not against holding people accountable for their actions, but I don’t want to get that sinking feeling of guilt that I had with characters on real human beings. And it is inhuman to hold one thing against someone’s head forever—especially when you don’t know the whole story.

We all make mistakes, we all fuck up, and we also, all have our own truth. And we’re also all capable of empathy towards others. 🖤

God knows I hate jkr with a passion but fuck if I love the message that was spread through those arcs.

I just finished Nahida’s quest and while I’m fuming that the radish got a second story quest before Venti, that doesn’t mean I can’t make part of her quest about him. In all seriousness though, I think this one specific bit was about him. In the part where we have to heal the second elemental being disguised as a fungus but they’re surrounded by real fungi and we can’t startle them, Nahida turns herself into a fungus and she and the first elemental being have a conversation about transformation.

Nahida thinks that shapeshifting should be easy since she’s a god, but the being tells her that it takes time like evolution and even gods can’t bend the rules of time, so the transformation won’t work well. Nahida is able to transform immediately only because of the beings help and experience, and we see these warnings to be true when Nahida is only able to hold her transformation for like 2 minutes before it wears her out and she turns back.

So how does Venti fit into this? Venti took his friend’s form immediately at will, which the being established is impossible for a god or any other being to do. He then proceeded to hold that form for 2600 years. That’s insane compared to Nahida even when she had help.

Which leads me to theory time! The being said that transformation takes time and even gods can’t bend time, but what if you had help from time herself? What if Istaroth took pity on her child for losing his friend and decided to aid his transformation and allow him to hold it? (Let me have my Venti Istaroth crumbs okay?)

Still, even with Istaroth’s help- weakest archon my ass! Venti you are hiding something big time and I want in on it.

and so, the inevitable day arrives when ren actually indulges aventurine, only to be met with this kind of response. to be fair, he should’ve probably known better than to take on a challenge he’s clearly bound to lose. aventurine had called it a game, one played in exchange for a drink, a gesture that’s become somewhat routine between them. ren steers clear of probing too deeply or crossing personal lines, and aventurine seems to reciprocate, maintaining a delicate balance. as delicate as it can be, at least, for two people who shouldn’t be associated in any way, shape, or form. then again, ren has never been one to follow all of the rules, especially when it comes to keeping his distance from those tied to the ipc. truth be told, he’d likely find himself in aventurine’s company time and time again if he wanted to—there’s something about it that keeps pulling him back.

the same can not be said for what he is currently attempting to do. 

“ you showed me how to do it once. one time. i am going to need more than that. ” if aventurine has one thing in abundance, it’s audacity—the nerve to sit there looking ridiculously pleased with himself, even as ren’s irritation becomes more and more apparent. not that ren is genuinely upset. despite his grumbling, he’s fully absorbed in the task, his focus unbroken.

he grips the plastic cup again, eyes narrowing slightly as he adjusts the angle to what seems just right, and gives it another go. dice stacking, aventurine had called it—something flashy and completely unnecessary for survival, more of a showy trick than a useful skill. it looks easy, sounds easy, yet is anything but that. ren slams the cup down against the table, but when he lifts it, the dice scatter once again. he gives up, at least for now, and flicks the cup across the table in frustration.

“ this isn’t worth it. i can buy my own drinks. ” a sigh of defeat and he grumbles, sinking further into his seat. “ it’s my turn to teach you something. throwing knives, maybe, or darts if you’re scared of cutting yourself ? ”
