Now Slo I will be honest with you. I could sit down and do a massive character study on him to get you the best most detailed response ever, but...... I am lazy. I don't want to do that. I will type him for you. But you will have to sit right here down next to me while I talk this out fast-track style below the cut.

tl;dr He is a 7w6 ESTP sx/sp

Okay so let's start with mbti. Does he prefer control over others and his environment or control over himself? He prefers to have control over himself, thus he is a perceiver. Being a prodigy at the bow points to him being high Se. He does not seem to live much in the past, only in the present. He doesn't seem to be bothered by the past, so I feel that's another point for being Se/Ni and not Ne/Si. Does he have Fe or Te? Te in the low forms is very micromanaging, but good at order. Fe, on the other hand, is good with people. I think he's Fe. That points to ESTP or ISTP. He doesn't display the awkwardness of inf-Fe so he's an ESTP.

Enneagram. What rules him: fear, anger, or shame? Obviously it would be fear. Is he a 5? No. Is he a 6? Absolutely not. Then he must be a 7. Now is he a anxious 7 (7w6)? Or is he an angry 7 (7w8)? I would point to him more being a laidback 7w6.

Instinctual variant time. Does he have sp? He most certainly has sp. Although some things like his story quest point to him not taking care of himself, the way he is in his daily life, he very much takes care of himself. He calls off from work when he's not feeling well. He makes sure to go to the doctor. He wants to live. So he has sp. Now does he have soc or sx? Personally I'm leaning more to sx. Idk why. it just vibes him more. That and like... Someone with soc would care about their reputation enough not to call off from work that often. Now is he sp/sx or sx/sp? Obviously he's sx/sp. He's not an isolating loner. He's social. So sx/sp.

Now because this is a fast track, there are the chances of me getting this wrong. Now if I had to rank this in order from most to least likely to be wrong, I would say: mbti > iv > enneagram.

JuJutsu Kaisen Personality Types Part 1: Suguru Geto

Okay, here we go!

Geto is absolutely the character that inspired me to expand this series to JJK, so I figured I should start with him. He's such a beautifully written, tragic character, and one whose descent feels inevitable by the time it happens.

Anyway, here's how I see his personality type!

Geto Suguru's Enneagram

Wound: We don't know a ton about Geto's life before he entered JuJutsu High, so it's hard to say.

Wounding message: Also hard to say.

Core desire: For the world to be just, and to play a role in making/keeping it that way.

Core fear: an unjust world, loss

Defense mechanism: Geto has a strong sense of justice that guides him in his decisions; he falls back on this when he's unsure

Strengths: Geto is highly attuned to the people he cares about, he's principled, responsible, rational, idealistic, hard-working, empathetic, organized, strategic, and he seeks input from people he trusts

Challenges: Geto is resentful, scapegoats non-sorcerers, rigid, thinks of the world in black-and-white, obsessive, easily demoralized, looks down at others

When healthy: Geto has a sense of fun, trusts in his friends, and respects other worldviews

When unhealthy: Geto is angry, vengeful, self-important, envious, uses his empathy as a reason to hurt others

Looking at all of this, here's what connects when I go back to the Enneagram post:

Wounding message: I didn't give a wounding message above, but I could see a case for 1, 2, 3, or 8.

Geto is an Enneagram 1.

I actually think Geto is a pretty clear 1, though maybe that's because I'm a 1 myself and found some of his thought patterns during his descent to be uncomfortably close to home. When things aren't "right," I totally get the impulse to burn it all down. Especially when lives are at stake.

That's the thing about Geto; even though he hurt innumerable people after he turned, he did so out of deep compassion for the people who he'd seen get hurt. He couldn't bear seeing Gojo nearly die; he couldn't deal with Haibara's death, and he finally lost it when he saw Nanako and Mimiko caged by those villagers. No disconnect exists in his mind because he no longer sees non-sorcerers as humans. He even viewed them as lesser before he flipped, constantly referring to them as "the weak."

Ones live in the Gut center, and tend to repress anger. From Personality Path:

Anger is typically repressed by Type 1s. Type 1s try hard not to express anger as they associate it as a “bad” emotion. Instead, they report a lot of irritation. Interestingly, when their anger is eventually expressed, it can be intense, with a laser focus. A harsh inner voice dictating rigid internal standards is often at the bottom of each of the three core emotions for Type 1s.

Wing

The Enneagram Institute calls 1w9s "The Idealist" and 1w2s "The Advocate." I think Geto's wing is a little tricky to suss out, and I could see a case for either.

Geto is fine with conflict and will readily stand up to others when he disagrees with them. However, he loves when Gojo relies on him, and spirals when he's no longer central to Gojo's life. When he turns, he immediately inserts himself into a leadership position in the religious group. His desire to be needed makes him much more likely to be a 1w2, in my opinion.

From Truity:

These Ones are more focused on the livelihoods of other people, and champion causes focused on meeting people’s needs. They may appear overly controlling or critical of other people in an effort to help them become the “best version” of themselves. Like the Type Two, this type wants to help and feel appreciated.

I think, the fact that Twos go to Eight when stressed, and Eights can have more of a "burn it all down" mentality than others, also makes a good case for Geto having a Two wing.

Subtype

In reading about the different subtypes of One, Geto clearly connects the most to SO 1w2.

Enneagram Explained describes SO Ones like this:

Focuses On:  The need to be correct/right with their groups and communities. SO 1s often take on being the teacher or role model with those around them; trying to show others the right way to live. These 1s are often concerned with fairness and justice. Relationship to Their Vice (anger): SO 1s often suppress their anger but are also a bit ok with showing it. Potential Mistypes: SO 1s can often look like type 3s or type 5s.

Tritype

With One as his Gut type, I could see Five or Six as his Head type, and I could see any of Two, Three, or Four as his Heart type.

After reading the descriptions on Katherine Fauvre's website, I think 1-4-6 (The Philosopher) is the best fit:

If you are a 146, you are diligent, intuitive, and inquisitive. You want to be ethical, original, and certain. You are a private and introspective person and prefer to keep your world small to pursue your creative interests. Only one or two know your true thoughts and insecurities. Morally focused, you voice your expectations and criticisms, hoping your insights will help them to improve. However, you are kind-hearted, and cannot turn a blind eye to others you feel you should assist.

Suguru Geto's MBTI

Here's how I see Geto's Type Dynamics:

Feeling: Geto feels things deeply. I believe his Dominant Process is Introverted Feeling (Fi). At its best, Fi can look like someone who "seeks harmony of action and thoughts with personal values. May not always articulate those values. Empathetic, sensitive, and idealistic." At its worst, Fi can look like someone who will "carry the weight of the world on their shoulders, hypersensitive, pompous, feel sorry for themselves".

iNtuiting: Geto is strongly intuiting, making big leaps and connections by noticing patterns. I believe he uses Extraverted Intuiting (Ne).

Sensing: This would make his Tertiary Process Introverted Sensing (Si).

Thinking: Last, his Inferior process would be Extraverted Thinking (Te). Te as an Inferior Process can look like being "overly critical and negative toward others, judge others harshly, quick to take action to try and control/correct their own imagined incompetence which often backfires making the problem worse".

This would make his Type Dynamics Fi Ne Si Te, and his MBTI INFP (The Healer).

Here's how the Myers & Briggs Foundation describes INFP:

Idealistic, loyal to their values and to people who are important to them. Want to live a life that is congruent with their values. Curious, quick to see possibilities, can be catalysts for implementing ideas. Seek to understand people and to help them fulfill their potential. Adaptable, flexible, and accepting unless a value is threatened.

This comes as a bit of a surprise, as I was certain Geto would be a Judging type, but this actually does sound like him.

Interestingly, this means Geto has a lot in common with two Fruits Basket characters: Mayu and Kazuma.

With Mayu, he shares his Enneagram, Wing, Subtype, and Tritype, but not his MBTI or any Type Dynamics (Mayu is ENFJ, The Teacher).

With Kazuma, he shares his Enneagram, Subtype, Tritype, and MBTI, but not his Wing (Kazuma is 1w9, The Dreamer).

I think this gets to the heart of what makes Geto such an interesting and well-written character. He has qualities we associate with deeply compassionate and empathetic people. Arguably, he is an extremely empathetic and compassionate person, but seeing the death and mistreatment of his fellow sorcerers was just too much for him. His empathy (toward his fellow sorcerers) led him to effectively start a genocide.

So, to summarize:

Enneagram: SO 1w2 (The Reformer/The Advocate)

Tritype: 4-6-1 (The Philosopher)

MBTI: INFP (The Healer)

At his core, Geto is someone who thinks and feels deeply about how the world should be, and tries to do what's right according to his own (sometimes very warped) moral code. I am an INFJ with a 1w9 alignment. I tend to conflict with myself over the moralities of certain things, but I try to be a “peacemaker” of sorts, if that makes sense. Yet at the same time I do really enjoy the idea of adventure and freedom, and I tend to be open to different perspectives.

I also LOVE learning new things from different subjects. Some of my favorites being about international cultures and language. Its something i’m passionate about.

Since there are a couple people interested in him I decided to give my boy the proper introduction first!

(this is the culmination of me writing stories in my head for the past 2 years without taking notes yes i know the story part here is long sorry-)

Bio: name: E.G Lynal (The "E.G." in his name stands for "Earl Grey") alias: Just Lynal, Mark Actias Species: Shadow being(??) (soul infused/Em messing around with spells she probably shouldn't.) Gender: none he/they age: his ability allows him to look any age, typically 6, 16, and 23, chronologically 250+ Romantic orientation: aroace MBTI: IxxJ 1w9

Abilities: -Shapeshifting: Thanks to his physicality, it allows him, or parts of him, to take the shape of many things. ( ie. animals, furniture, weapons, shields, etc.) He can also adjust his height and size.

-Flying: He can float and fly

-Eyes: They glow in the dark

Personality: A responsible and sensible bookworm that enjoys a good cup of tea, or any warm fragrant drink really, they make him feel cozy inside (also he can't taste-). Not the most social, but he enjoys a small chat or too occasionally. Very patient, he has to deal with EmTea and MimiMilk and their shenanigans on the daily. When he loses his cool, he is the scariest person in the room, mainly because you won't know he's angry, he's just using what bit of self control he has left to be a somewhat respectful person. He owns a small cafe in Hometown (where he lives) and is very proud of it. Story: He was first created by Tea some couple centuries before present day, through a technique of "soul-splitting" where a bit of Tea's soul was transformed into a little guy!

Why? He doesn't really know, since she never gave him a proper explanation other than "I needed an assistant". (which made no sense as she rarely asked him to help out with her work, instead opting to teach and raise him instead.)

For the first few years of his life, he stayed with Tea (she went by "Laine" at this time) at the organization she worked with his name being just "Lynal" causing people to misunderstand and believe his full name to be "Just Lynal" since he always introduced himself as such.

This organization was one of random outcasts, working odd-jobs and trying to help those unfortunate during a war between all nations and races. He saw them as apart of his family almost. There was Ms. Silvie (despite her protests to not be addressed as such, Tea just calls her that anyway and so Lynal copied, her full name is Silvie Stream.), a magikan who worked as one of the healers there and served as a mentor to him when Tea was too busy to look after him.

Wallis Mitchmatch a magikan mage in training, his older sister is out in the war as one of the healers, he talks about her sparingly. He also has a pet frog that Lynal remembers liked to hop onto his head.

Tom Boome was another member of the organization that Lynal noticed Tea wasn't too fond of him, though he wasn't sure why. He was a human detective, and a new member to the organization. He had Tea on edge for the first couple of weeks. Though after those two weeks... it was as though there wasn't any sort of animosity between them at all. Strange.

All that aside, Lynal blended in well with the rest of the group, there was the cook Bearnestine, the boss everyone referred to as well, boss (and someone Tea was surprisingly casual and comfortable with talking to-), little Mayflae (a young magikan orphan girl brought back from an abandoned raided village), and many more. That included missions, Lynal remembers them well. So when everything was said and done, he left with you, though traveling together wouldn’t last long when you met up with Zephyrus Shash-

“Wait, let me get this straight, you’re leaving to go elsewhere and want me to take care of him while you’re gone?”

“Listen, I know it’s quite a bit to ask but there’s something I need to take care of-“

“It’s about It right?”

“I thought so” They sigh, ��fine, I’ll look after the kid for you, but you better not take too long, I’m not exactly the ‘caretaker’ type”

“Thanks Shash, it means a lot.”

So Lynal was now left in the care of Shash, not that he understood the situation…

“Uhm.. Shash?”

“Yeah?”

“Why did she leave me with you? And what did you mean by ‘it’?”

“Oh she didn’t tell you?”

“… I see. Then ask her about it when she gets back, it’s her business to divulge, not mine.”

They traveled together for many years, with Shash acting as his mentor and help him perfect the abilities he was given. If there was one word Lynal could describe Shash with, it would be strange. He didn't understand how this was the person Tea would trust with her life... at least in hindsight. The more time he spent with Shash, the more he began to understand Tea just a little more. Despite being a literal part of her, he didn't actual know much about her. She was kind and caring towards him, but she rarely answered any questions he had about her, and even when she did, she would give a halfhearted response. And it wasn't until they decided to stop at a town, they would meet her again.

This town had a focus on innovation and invention, and was where they reunited with Tea once more. She had changed her Identity to someone by the name Lunelle Actias and worked as an inventor. How she hadn't aged despite being human was confusing to say the least, and her reason being there is once again, never explained to him, and the questions he asked, were all answered vaguely finally concluding with: "I'll tell you when it's right."

Lynal changed his name to Mark Actias and Shash to Salem Actias. Later that year, Mimi was created as an experiment by Tea, a doll with a a bit of her soul, a mischievous spirit.

It was definitely one Lynal's most lively event in his life, with the bustling city and people getting from here to there.. He decided to work at the local library in the meantime, becoming friends with the elderly librarian and finding new interesting stories to read.

Mimi was also a huge handful for him. Chaos wrap in a cute package, and with a mind too smart for her own good as she'd cook up elaborate pranks that bordered on legality, he often had to keep an eye on her.

Tea had also changed somewhat, bustling from here to there with her ideas and work, it was almost shocking how Lynal stayed sane that whole time.

Anger Management for a 9w8

Hi!

I’m the the middle of working toward getting a green card, studying for ASVAB and getting my body in shape. I understand that all of these things take time. But I can’t stop myself from flying into rage all the time.

Unfortunately, yes, there’s no instant gratification for any of that.

ASVAB is frustrating. My only struggle here is math. I’ve never been good at math. My basic is bad so I have to relearn it from the beginning. Every time I came across a question that I have no way of answering I got so angry I saw red followed by a tirade of cursing myself for being so stupid and a ‘failure’.

What’s a solution? If you suck at math, hire a math tutor. Get someone skilled to teach you so that you can improve in this area. Thus you won’t feel like a failure and you will struggle less. Think about SOLUTIONS instead of getting mad. It’s normal for frustration to lead to anger, so think about solutions for your frustration -- how do you not be frustrated? What can you do about it?

Learning 8 languages all at once are also pretty hard, especially with no exposure and none of them being relatable.

Wow. That’s intense. Is that a requirement? If not, drop some of them.

Then the workout. My body is weak and fat, so I need to both workout and lose weight. I’m frustrated at my weakness. I’m so angry that I can’t workout as much as I want to. Because it’s over the limit of my body (I literally slept for 10 hours straight + aching all over everyday). I know that it takes time.

Yes, it does take time. And it’s better not to burn yourself out or hurt yourself right at the start. It will require steady development over months, not a matter of days. If you push yourself too hard, you could tear your muscles and then you’d be laid up for months. This is just something you have to accept, commit to, and keep doing once a day because in six months you’ll look good. It’s hard for those of us who want instant fixes to stick with things long term, but... it’s worth it.

But whenever my ENTJ 1w9 aunt tried to 'help’ I lost all my desire to continue. Maybe it’s because she’s basically laughing at me for being pathetic (she used to be super athletic, so she knows her stuff). I know she’s trying to help, but I can’t help shutting her off and removing myself from her presence and try to figure it out myself.

You could do that, or you could actually accept her help. If she knows her stuff, you refusing to listen to her is basically just allowing your pride to get in the way of accepting the assistance that might get you closer to your goal. Don’t be so stubborn that you push away people who could actually help you achieve your goals because you are too proud to admit that you need help. She knows what to do. Take advantage of that.

I also need someone who would support me. Like, not giving me advice or things like that. But I want someone gentle around me..

You said you just met two new friends; maybe they could fill this need in your life? Most friendly people like other friendly people, so don’t be afraid to text him. Don’t pester him, but show him that you’re eager to be friends. And stop the negative self talk (“why would he want to hang out with me?”). It won’t help.

The thing is, I can get out of 9-inertia now. I’m actively working toward my goals. Taking control of my life and actively changing my lifestyle to what I want for myself. But I want to manage my anger so I can do them more efficiently and peacefully.

9w8s are angry all the time, yes, but it’s useful to channel that anger into being productive, assertive, and going after what you want. You may want to look into anger management if you feel it’s a serious impediment. There are lots of books, resources, and therapists who write about anger who you might find useful. I’m not a licensed therapist so I can’t really give you much advice.

I’m 23 this March, I don’t have much time left. I need to be adult now, otherwise I won’t survive in the US. But to be an adult, I need to manage my anger.

It’s good to start working on this now, even though truthfully, no one expects a 23 year old to have it all figured out, to be perfect, or to have their life together. Most people are pretty confused, unsure of themselves, and still searching for meaning up through their 30s...

About Megumi's MBTI: I think its equally likely that he could be either an INTJ or an ISTJ (Megumi's most popular type) because if you go into the cognitive functions— which is widely considered the most 'accurate' typing method— then both types share two of the four functions in the same position. But since you only typed him from the surface I guess that's pretty accurate.

Megumi's Enneagram: I feel like he's a 1w9, maybe? 1's have very strong internal values/principles that they adhere to and in most cases try to enforce on the outside world, and they've also got a famously suppressed temper aka anger issues 😆 and with Megumi being the delinquent who bullies delinquents...it seems very likely.

As for Sukuna, no objections there...it almost seems like he was made for that particular combination or something. He's got that kingly aura, true ENTJ 8 🙌

From the first few episodes of TOH I already knew that Luz was some kind of 479 (and good for her ! love that tritype & its contradictions). The only question was the order. If yourself hesitated for some time between 7 and 4 : just look at Reaching Out and come back to me. This episode is the epithome of a 7 : a race ahead, desperately busying yourself outside to avoid your internal world. Her 4 is also quite clear : Luz longs to be HERSELF, she's unabashedly authentic but also feels *wrong* in some shape or form for never managing to fit in the Human realm. Her 9 shows easily in the fact that she's simply put a pretty laid-back person overall, and rarely express anger. But most of all she's scared of being a burden and eager to accomodate others when she fears being abandonned.

Eda Clawthorne ♦ ESTP 7w8 8w9 2w3

Her 7 and 8 are both clear : Eda is a very headstrong woman, she fears feeling trapped and she's eager to experience hands-on all that the world has to offer to her. She's playful and curious, and despises the Emperor Coven for restricting others' future and their magic. Her 8 shows in that as well : Eda is concerned with fulfilling her wants & needs in life, and will grow angry when others trying to prevent her from doing so. She rejects vulnerability in most situations and doesn't like to show her cracks to others. If you type her 783 instead I won't mind either and I would get it somehow. But I feel like, even if she likes to brag about being the strongest witch on the Isles, Eda doesn't really care about being respected or admired, and she certainly doesn't base her self-worth on her ability to fulfill others' expectations in any way. She's a caretaker who struggles to let others return the favor to her (reject). If you want me to elaborate on why 2 fix, I know one ep in particular led me to this conclusion but it was probably back in S2A so I would have to look it up.

His typing is made harder by the fact that he's literally 8 years old. I'm unsure of his core, torn between 3 and 8. King's arc clearly focuses on identity & image (heart core) issues. He's grandiloquent, concerned with how he appears to people. BUT not very competency (Competency : 135 triad who tends to solve problems by rejecting emotions and trying to stay objective/detached) He lacks care for what others expect from him. BUT at the same time he isn't raised in a 3ish household, Luz & Eda don't expect much from him so that could be the reason. He starts off as someone who denies vulnerability and tends to overfocus on *his* wants and needs (8). Or at least he DID but he's certainly grown since. He tend to be very reactive to when others go against him. (Reactive : 468 triad who tend to work themselves up emotionally in the face of a problem and want others to mirror that emotional reaction to be sure that they understand the gravity of the situation) BUT AGAIN. He's literally 8 years old. What 8 years old is competent, unconcerned with how he accomplishes his wants, and not at least a bit reactive. THUS, hard to say really.

THEN she has the rigidty and perfectionnism of a 1 + the desire to make ther world around her (including Eda) fits her vision of what is good. At least in the beginning.

not sure what to say to argue here, if you feel differently you can ask for why's i suppose. Willow is overall easy to get along and her integration seems to fit the 9 -> 3 line : letting go of self-imposed isolation, trying to step out of her "background character" life to show what she's capable of. Comfortable with how she's different from others and her ''misfit'' status once she's shown that she's not WRONG but simply different.

i need to rewatch the Gus-centric ep. there's some stuff that could point to a 5 really : including his absolute *need* to be the most competent in the room, the most knowledgeable, to not be rejected and how it was reflected in his presidency over the human club. but at the same time, "trust" and an inability to trust yourself is a very 6ish theme and so I remain undecided. other than that 3 and 9 are a no-brainer : Gus is a very attachment character : he tends to conform to others expectations and what they consider as good for a variety of reasons.

Amity is constantly 3ing, just in different fonts. From "best student in the abomination track" to "i'm gonna be the best girlfriend ever". As she acurately explained herself, she was raised under the assumption that "everything is an opportunity to justify existing". In other words, you need to prove that you are worth something, and in her case through concrete and objective measures of success to earn love. ie she's a 3 core.

Hunter ♦ ISTP 6w5 3w2 8w9

i nearly typed him 3w2 but had to switch after Any sport in a Storm and Hollow Mind. The 3 and 6 are both very strong in Hunter, but in the end it's clear that seeing Belos as good and trustworthy played a big part in him feeling safe and secure in his place in the world. And having that certainty shattered really shook him. His 3 is clear as well in the way he is constantly trying to prove himself useful. Some might type him as a Te user because Hunter appreciates rules and authority as he says, but I do believe that this is his 6 speaking more than anything : 6s feel secure when the rules and expectations are clear-cut and out there, they appreciate authority they can rely on. But Hunter's way of fulfilling this when it comes to Belos certainly seemed more Ti-ish. Even while trying to deny the truth, he still had to try and make things logical and rational *to himself*. He doesn't deny the evidence, but tries to make it fit in a framework that fits his understanding of reality.

Hollow Mind clearly showed that Belos is a 1 and not an 8. Belos has so far always been a controlled & cold villain. He has outbursts but they are directed at others' incompetence or (in Elsewhere and Elsewhen) at witches and what he considers *wrong* : these are 1 reasons for anger, not really 8ish in essence. 1s care about whether the world around them fits their standarts and might enforce them on people. They're the one who will rise to the top to try & make the world fit their idea of what is ''correct'' and will berate people for their incompetence. 8s, on average, will more often be anti-authoritarian because rules are an obstacle to them having free reign over their actions & accomplishing their wants/will. And being the one to establish the rules isn't the 8 go-to solution to avoid being controlled quite as much as people pretend it is. They care about being able to do whatever they want, and do not (on average) get along well with overly rigid structure. As for the 5 : if Belos had a 6 fix, it would have been easy to throw in some 6ish reasonning into his whole cleansing plan : him fearing witches or the unknown or anything of the kind (fitting of his time period). But there's none of that aspect with this character. (although to be fair he does use 6 tactics, but mostly on others) I think 5 is more likely since he does have this tendency to keep all the knowledge & plans to himself, and it's one of his go to way to control others. He has an independant streak but not for 8-related issues (no problem delegating, no problem with rigid structure, no problem weaponizing weakness) rather in a 5ish way (only one to know what is going on, shares the strict minimum, leaves other in the dark to avoid being challenged, emotionally distant & unavailable) As for the 2, the part that would most probably surprise people : The Emperor Coven is an environment that breeds 3 like tomorrow but I do not think Belos himself is one surprisingly. If you look at it more carefully, over the course of the show we have never seen Belos actually SHOW his competency or talents to anyone to garner their appreciation. And he never does really. Instead his tactis always rely on being kind, complimenting others and he downrights sees himself as a savior. He expects gratitude, not respect, and presents himself as good-natured and helpful which brings me to type him as a 2 over a 3.

another 3 again, the Emperor Coven is annoying like that. that said, I do not think Darius has a 6. He distinguishes himself from characters like Kikimora or Hunter so far in the sense that he respects people with individuality, who thinks for themselves and make their own call in situations. As opposed to mindless obediance, that he seems to disapprove of. He doesn't understand people who lack self-respect (like Hunter) and himself shows a willingness to skirt rules & arbitrary orders in favor of getting some "him-time" or having fun. All of this said, I think he could be either 379 or 378 : he's focused on his wants and willing to fight for them to some extent, and doesn't respect people who fail to do the same and don't respect themselves. At the same time he's a very laidback guy, who doesn't mind just up-and-leaving conversation and brushing off others. And seem keen on preserving his time & energy.

reaching out made him sound like a 2 somewhat but i think it's a trap because if you think about it, edric has never seemed concerned with being a caretaker or feeling needed in a 2ish way. his issue in Reaching out is more about feeling like the brunt of a joke and also incompetent aka 3 issues. like hunter, he says "i can help" but actually means "I'm capable/competent/reliable enough to help." which comes back to more 3ish struggles. I think 3 fix in general is more coherent with the persona Edric presents to the world the rest of the time. Pretending to be more put together, charming & confident than he actually feels deep down aligns more with the 3 tendency for Deceit than the 2 desire to make themselves indispensable through answering others' needs. Also 3s, despite being a competency type and usually seen as confident, are very much dependant on others' opinions & expectations since they're an Attachment type : they define their worth through answering others' expectations, and not fulfilling this aspect f/cks with them.

this tritype in some order is my best guess but we don't know a lot about her yet. countrary to amity & edric she seems completely unbothered by what others think of her when it comes to her talents or her accomplishments. at the same time, she's clearly the caretaker of the family (healing edric & giving advice to amity while dying her hair). she's confident in her personal worth but still ties herself to her siblings until being almost resentful of how much her life revolves around her twin. she's clearly the more headstrong of the two, seems pretty willful and handles edric with ease. but sorely lacks the rigidity of 1s, she seems (like Eda) more concerned with having her fun and doing what she wants instead. she's also bothered by the fact that her & edric are always together. This is why I think she might be a 7, who dislikes feeling trapped and currently is because her and edric aren't on the same page on the subject. but as the show progress they distinguish themselves more & more so it should be okay for these two.

Fruits Basket Personality Types Part 10: Hatori Sohma

It's time for the Sad Seahorse Daddy himself!

Like many of the secondary characters, we don't know a whole lot about Hatori's early childhood (up to age 5), but I'll do my best to figure out his Enneagram and MBTI!

Hatori Sohma's Enneagram

Wound: We know Hatori's parents were rather cold and strict, and that he had to live with the pressure and expectations of being the dragon of the Zodiac as well as the next family doctor and the bearer of the memory suppression technique. He also lost his mother when he was in elementary school.

Wounding message: You must live up to expectations and fulfill your role.

Core desire: To protect the younger Zodiacs and Tohru from making the same mistakes he did.

Core fear: That he'll fail to protect the younger Zodiacs and Tohru, or cause them more harm and heartbreak.

Defense mechanism: To repress his emotions and appear stoic at all times, to have high expectations of himself and others.

Strengths: Hatori is kind, dependable, a hard worker, conscientious, witty, calm in a crisis, competent, thoughtful, and attuned to future consequences.

Challenges: Hatori is closed off, judgmental, rigid, critical, withdrawn, melancholy, reluctant to open up to people, passive-aggressive, and easily embarrassed.

When healthy: Hatori can show a sense of humor, have a bit more spontaneity, and be open to new experiences and the joys of life.

Ones live in the Gut center, and tend to repress anger. From Personality Path:

Anger is typically repressed by Type 1s. Type 1s try hard not to express anger as they associate it as a “bad” emotion. Instead, they report a lot of irritation. Interestingly, when their anger is eventually expressed, it can be intense, with a laser focus.

Wing

Hatori is someone who goes along with things to preserve the peace, even when he knows it's wrong. He's one of Akito's biggest enablers (though part of that is due to the way the curse works), and he feels a great deal of shame about that. For these reasons, I see him as a 1w9.

The Enneagram Institute refers to 1w9s as "The Idealist," and 1w2s as "The Advocate."

EnneaApp describes 1w9s like this:

Focus on theory and idealism while still trying to be a peacemaker

Usually introverted and reserved; can be impatient, rigid, sarcastic

Won't speak up until sure of correctness; less inclined to take action

Hatori seems most focused on his role within the community. For this reason, I see him as a SO 1w9.

Enneagram Explained describes SO Ones like this:

Focuses On:  The need to be correct/right with their groups and communities. SO 1s often take on being the teacher or role model with those around them; trying to show others the right way to live. These 1s are often concerned with fairness and justice. Relationship to Their Vice (anger): SO 1s often suppress their anger but are also a bit ok with showing it. Potential Mistypes: SO 1s can often look like type 3s or type 5s.

This totally sounds like Hatori to me!

I think Hatori is a great example of a 3-5-1 tritype, "The Technical Expert."

Detail-oriented, you like mathematical concepts and finding ways to break down and understand complex material. You are very precise and good with exacting details that others find difficult to manage. Often technical, you prefer to work with facts and logic and can, at times, seem unemotional or insensitive.

Hatori Sohma's MBTI

E vs. I: Hatori is highly Introverted, directing a lot of his mental energy inward.

S vs. N: I think Hatori is more Sensing, preferring to work with concrete information.

T vs. F: Hatori is highly Thinking, making decisions based on logic and rational consequences.

J vs. P: Hatori is highly Judging, which aligns with his Enneagram of One (a Gut type with a strong framework of right and wrong).

Type Dynamics: Without working out what an ISTJ's type dynamics are (since that's my most likely guess for Hatori), I see his Type Dynamics as Si Te Fi Ne.

Si: Hatori prefers predictability and routine. He uses concrete data from the past to inform his perspective in the present.

Te: Hatori looks to external rules and systems for order and consistency.

Fi: Hatori keeps his feelings under wraps, but he has strong values and holds himself to those values. "Empathetic, sensitive, and idealistic."

Ne: Hatori can sometimes catastrophize by "attribut[ing] meaning where there is no meaning." An example of this would be how he believes he is not meant to be happy after he erases Kana's memories. That's an exaggerated response to (admittedly extreme) stress, typical of how people with Ne as their Inferior process might catastrophize.

Si Te Fi Ne is the type dynamic of ISTJ!

Here's how the Myers & Briggs Foundation describes ISTJ:

ISTJ: Quiet, serious, earn success by being thorough and dependable. Practical, matter-of-fact, realistic, and responsible. Decide logically what should be done and work toward it steadily, regardless of distractions. Take pleasure in making everything orderly and organized—their work, their home, their life. Value traditions and loyalty.

INFJs are often referred to as "The Inspector."

So, to summarize:

Enneagram: SO 1w9 (The Reformer/The Idealist)

Hatori is a lot of firsts in this series! He's the first One, the first Social subtype, and the first T Myers-Briggs type!

Enneagram 1

Need: To be perfect, to be right, to do the right thing no matter what. God-complex when overvalued, self-made-punching-bag when undervalued. 

Belongs to: Gut-triad. The compliant gut type that notices the changes it has to make for their outer world/ inner world to be perfect.

1s are among the nicely represented types in anime. Mainly because it’s extremely easy to portray a character who has black & white morals and ethics that don’t waver, irrespective of the situation at hand. 

1s are very angry people, however this anger can be seen more in the form of resentment. They’re angry about lots of things, but rather than feeling the anger for what it is, they choose to add more meaning to it- If there’s a reason for my anger, I can work towards it and make it right, Of course, it might not make a huge change, but this would definitely get me to my perfect self. 

As kids, 1s are forced to be a particular way. They learn pretty soon about what is right and wrong. And the consequences of doing the wrong (which in most cases is pretty bad) 

In happy families, 1s become 1s by watching this role model everyone in their family is crazy about - They are perfect cause they save the world, do this, do that, etc. So, if I choose to be like them, then I can be perfect as well.  In sad families though, 1s become 1s by taking the role of the moral compass. 

Wings: 

1w9- The more quiet and accommodative version. (I shall make things/myself perfect by partially merging myself with others needs. I’ll show them the right path by being more accommodative and adaptable, so that I wouldn’t become a nuisance and ruin anything. 

1w2- These 1s are a lot more action-oriented and less passive than 1w9s. If people do exactly as I say, or if I guide them in that exact direction I want them to go, they’ll be happier with me. I’m doing the right thing by helping them see the path.

 Instinctual Variants: 

Sp 1: Me and my morals; I will be perfect according to my standards and nothing can stop me from being so.  The most self-critical and the least imposing 1s. 

Ex: Megumi Fushiguro. 

Megumi doesn’t really care much about anyone else and their actions, even though he’s quite aware of the fact that there are bad people who screw up those who can’t protect themselves. He is very angry (the more, black-white anger) and almost all of us can see the internalization of this anger.

However, unlike those 1s who actually project or try to impact a situation, he focuses on himself. He also beats himself up and is even ready to use himself as the sacrificial goat cause he firmly believes that he isn’t perfect or good enough like his teammates to actually make a good difference. 

So 1: I can’t deal with the evilness in my surrounding; I am extremely aware of all the horrible things around me and I have to change it immediately to help myself and those around me. The 1s that can make the best and the most useful change. Also the 1s that can fail to realize the evilness within themselves. 

Ex: Light Yagami

For Light, the world is bad and he needs to change it. He sees his dad being a part of the police force, however that isn’t enough. His dad isn’t perfect enough to eradicate all the monsters that roam the world. So when he gets the Death Note, he takes it up on himself to remove those bad people. According to him, he was given an opportunity to make this world perfect. 

But he failed to realize the fact that he was changing in the process of his cleansing. 

Sx 1: I don’t get affected of all the bad things in world. However, if it is something that I am self-critical of or if people close to me have been wronged, then there’s no way the world’s getting away with it. See-saw 1s. They have the best projection and sometimes overdo their righteousness when it’s absolutely not necessary. However, at other times can completely overlook them cause, like sp 1s, they believe that only an internal critic can solve the problem ( even when they could do it)

Ex: Hijikata Toushiro

Toushi is well aware of the fact that there are a lot of horrible things going on around him- but unlike So 1s, he doesn’t particularly have the urge to stop them or put an end to them. He doesn’t slack slack but at the same time doesn’t really care and knows how far he can go. 

The best place where we can actually see his 1 and his perfection actually pop up is when he’s with the shinsengumi and his pride as a samurai. He’s soo into shinsengumi that he wants them to be perfect. He values the samurai conduct and his captain so much to the point that if someone screws around with it, he gets it under check, sometime with more force than needed.

Imayoshi Shoichi x You x Teppei Kiyoshi

Imayoshi love trope : College love, if he’s flirting with you just to decompress or seriously you’re only going to know it with time but he seems interested in more than being your drinking buddy.

Teppei love trope : The language tutor, teaching you how to express love in multiples foreign language including the one of your heart.

Overall dynamic : Imayoshi doesn’t hesitate to use sneaky way to makes Teppei lower in your esteem for him it’s just fair game to eliminate opponents in love but he’s confident that you would chose him in the end meanwhile Teppei mostly try to first get you to like him as well and then show you innocently of course how bad the concurrent is.

COMPATIBILITY –

It clicks easily between Imayoshi and you. (ENTJ x INTP) this pairing is known to be a perfect match mostly because of their natural affinity and balance. At the core it’s genuine appreciation for each other’s intellect and it develops into much more admiration and positive feelings as you two don’t have any problems understanding each other as analysts and communicating.

Teppei who is a 2w1 is not any worse or any better of a match I think, you’re going to admire him for his generosity because yours is much more restrained but it won’t makes you feel bad about yourself because Teppei as well have his egoistic moments as he takes actions on this world without thinking twice sometimes. Being much more on the realization and concrete, Teppei do what he thinks is good and how should things must happen for everything to go perfectly… He’s not a maniac on details and let everyone be free and do what they wants but he still have his perspective and his opinion that he’s willing to share if you ask.

LOVE STORY : Passionate about Japan and its culture, you wanted to study there and learn the language but it happened that moving there lead you to others things as well. Before coming there you had a Japanese tutor online responding by the name of Kiyoshi Teppei. He was overall a cool guy, really extroverted and sociable : mostly your opposite but some way you could enjoy deep conversation and stupid ones with him as well. Whenever you would chat with him online he never disappoints to put a smile on your face and now you got to meet him person. Times makes you two closer and closer but Teppei is also very insistent for you to open up to others people and push you to meet new individuals but it’s only circumstances that makes you meet Imayoshi Schoichi at the library in the middle of your revisions. He had that mischievous smile on his face and that arrogant tone in his voice that he barely tries to hide while remaining polite. Chatting with him is interesting, he’s hardly hurt by your critics and emotionless remarks, it’s fun debating with him and while having intellectual spars you get to know each others. He makes your days at uni less painful and actually worth it but you don’t know if he’s genuine with you or here to pass time. You carefully try to not get too much attached with him but seeing him every time ready to wait for you after classes, actively teasing you and trying to meet you outside of school you feel special and just good. But life rythym is made of period of tranquility and agitation : Imayoshi and Teppei being very different, you don’t hang out with the two at the same time, they each bring that special thing in your life and eventually that’s how they found out that there is that someone you’re close to as well and menace the future of your relationship with them as you share your time between the two. Learning about the concurrent they’re surprised to see it’s a guy they had the occasion to play basketball against in high school and of course one from Seirin/Toou.

I (ESFJ, 6w7) was having a conversation with a friend (ENTJ, 8w9) about motivations to stay in touch with people:

Him: It’s good you feel the drive to stay in touch with people after graduation. It means you care about them.

Me: I mean, is it really caring about them if it’s driven out of a selfish fear of loneliness?

Him: I think so. I’m the opposite of you - I can be by myself for a long time and not be bothered by it. I want to change that.

Me: If it doesn’t bother you what motivates you to want to reach out more? Do you feel like it’ll eventually start bothering you? Is it like, a sense of the kind of person you want to be?

Him: I think it’s a good thing to do.

Me: Oh. I’m not sure why you’d value something if you didn’t feel emotional passion about it. Sorry, I don’t want to sound like I’m challenging you or anything. I’m just trying to figure out how this works.

Him: That’s ok, I like being challenged.

Me: But you reached out to hang out with me today. And if you stopped I don’t think I’d think you’re a bad person—I’d assume you were busy and have other things come up.

Him: Fair enough. But it’s less what others would think of me and more the kind of person I want to be.

I’ve realized that a lot of my motivations are heavily reliant on emotional drives, which is partly why I’ve had trouble considering jobs/careers/personal interactions I don’t care about. I need some inherent interest/excitement to do a good job at something without feeling exhausted. Essentially, I feel like emotions are a driver of most of my motivations, but that’s not the case for him. What might motivate someone beyond what seems to make them stably happy and connected in the long-term? That feels just so deeply important to me I’m not sure how I could prioritize anything else.

His responses are really heavily showing his Fi – it’s not about the external world or what others think, it’s about the kind of person *I* I want to be. Fi is all about me, my journey, what I think of myself, what I need to do to make me like myself, what I think would be better for myself. That’s the nature of Fi, what others think about “me” doesn’t matter as much as what I think about myself.

You phrase it as “emotional passion” and a need, but for him, it’s an inner drive of “I need to do this for me, I want to like myself, and this would make me like myself more.”

That aside… what’s wrong with you being an emotional person with emotional drives? That’s how Fe-doms are wired. It’s who you are, and there’s nothing wrong with wanting to be emotionally involved, to stay connected to other people, or to crave and need a career that has to do with either people or something you feel passionate about. You can’t force yourself to do a career that you have no interest in; it won’t work, you will hate it, you won’t do your best, and you will be wasting your natural Fe gifts. It’s normal to feel energized by doing what you love and it’s important to seek a career that allows you either to do what you love, or allows you to be around other people, which will keep you energized.

No, emotions do not motivate him. His are low in his stack. It’s important for him to do what he feels is RIGHT for him, and that’s how his Fi works. He no doubt also wants to feel passionate about his job and career and life, but it won’t seem as “loud” or as “demanding” to you as yours, because it’s not being expressed in a highly animated, emotional way. It doesn’t mean his feelings are any less, they are just different. And you don’t have to prioritize anything but your feelings. That’s how you are made.

What makes you think he's an extrovert? or an 8? And not a 1w9? From what he said, he sounds like a withdrawn-idealistic introvert who is seeking to perfect himself...

The Longest Day in Chang An typology

Zhang Xiao Jing - ESTP 8w9 sp/so - Double Lion (Snake primary model)

He fell to 5-ish inaction for a long time but when he realizes what he has to protect, he sprung back. I wanted to put 6w5 to him at first, but he doesn't react from his head (like Yuan Zai) but from his gut. And this is a good example of Lion primary with snake model. He cares a LOT about his people but when pushes come to shove, he will choose the cause first (sacrificing his spy to get information, for example).

Li Bi - ESTJ 1w2 sp/so - Double Bird (Lion Secondary model adopted from Zhang Xiao Jing)

Initially, he is only a pampered boy who wants to please his master/friend the crown prince. He will do anything to help the crown prince then he met Zhang Xiao Jing. Li Bi is a very double bird - when he knows his value (we for the crown prince!) isn't working, he adopts Zhang Xiao Jing's values. He adopts Zhang Xiao Jing's methods when he knows that the usual way doesn't work anymore (we won't play by the rule). He does grow into a better man over the course of the story - more resolute, more centered and more mature.

Xu Bin - INFJ 1w9 sp/so - Lion-Bird

Long Bo / Xiao Gui - ENFJ 1w2 sp/so - Double Badger

This, folks, this is how you write a Double badger! Long Bo is a product of society, when you burn badgers to the point where nothing matters, they will destroy everything. Long Bo used to be loyal and upstanding citizen. A great comrade in arms who care for his soldiers and his jiangshan. But the Empire abandoned him, abandoned his people. He came to see the empire, not as a beacon of hope and people, but as a decadent rot that needs to be taken away so people can live in peace. So his people will be avenged.

His method is also very badger - he recruits people by being nice to them genuinely. He allows people to follow him willingly and they do. Because they know he will take care of his own. He is very charismatic and very single-minded. But in the end, his downfall is his inability to detach from people (Fe-dom) and his inability to contemplate his actions before it's too late (Ti-inferior).

Tan Qi - ISTJ 9w1 so/sp - Lion-Snake (can we change snake to fox?)

This girl is SMART! Clear Snake secondary, look at how she dances around everyone and strings them along with her plan.

Yuan Zai - ESTJ 6w5 sp/so - Double Snake

At first he annoys me, but he does grow on me in the end. He does have his principle and has strong sense of duty (as usual for enneagram 6). In this story, Yuan Zai is just a poor official, the only way he can rise is to gain merits and get on the high ranking officials' good side. So he has to be pragmatic and cunning. But he does have his limits and boundary.

And his relationship with Wang Yunxiu is hilarious. At first, he thought he could string her along, then fall in love with her, then realize his wife-to-be is an absolute unit. Without Wang Yunxiu, he wouldn't dare to do half of what he did. He is way too cautious.

Wang Yunxiu - ESFP 8w7 sp/so - Snake-Lion

I love Yuan Zai and Wang Yunxiu's dynamic. Brain and brawn at its finest. She is heedless and impulsive, but she is also quite fearless the way 8w7 usually are.

Lin Jiulang - ESTJ 8w9 so/sp - Lion-Bird
