So since Asriel is coming home for the weekend (and for the festival, he's not gonna miss that) at like the last chapter of Deltarune, it's quite likely that he's coming back just as the game reaches it's climax, that he'll just be coming out of the bus to see a dark world take over the town or the Angel's heaven come to fruition or something and just drops all his bags down in shock...
But actually imagine that Asriel decides to bring his new friend/crush Frisk over because they wanted to see the festival and Az wanted to show them around, basically giving our beloved kiddo an express ticket to actually be involved in the main plot
Maybe they will both get to enjoy the festival a bit before everything goes to shit, maybe they have to make their way through the last dark world (in the background, presumably), maybe Asriel finds Dess again and so Frisk gets to meet her (given the theories that Dess is trapped in the bunker and the last chapter will see us exploring it)
(Also if I am right, and Chara is both the angel and the very definitely final boss of Deltarune, it would be a shame for Asriel to not show up for the final leg of the fight or at least right after it's won.)
You ever try to show your crush around your hometown only for your dead sibling to come back to life in a terrifying angel form, trying to destroy all of humanity (or something similar) to create a "perfect world", because they're still somehow absolutely convinced that they're the One True Saviour and "the future of humans and monsters" (blah blah blah, insert typical Chara bullshit here)? Because that's whats happening to Asriel lol
This is such a cool idea!!
I already really love the idea of Asriel coming back home with Frisk and showing them off to everyone as his romantic partner, introducing them to Kris, and then hopefully getting to save Dess too.
Oh, and having everyone meet/and/or fight Chara like that? It would be intense, especially if Kris and Asriel is dealing with them (and I wonder how Frisk could help???)

Currently replaying OMORI because I'm a masochist with my best friends @beevean and @the-crow-binary providing emotional support lmfao. Even despite how soul-crushingly boring it is, I think we're still having some sort of fun with this clusterfuck of a game
Highlights (and the misc. problems we've managed to spot) so far include:
I already knew that this game's length was detrimental to it during my first solo playthrough, but this playthrough is helping me put into perspective just how bloated OMORI is, even when it comes to an aspect like dialogue. For example, a single conversation between Space Boyfriend and the main cast took us approximately 5 minutes to get through, and it's not like the writing is gripping enough to make us give a shit about the characters or anything they're saying
Speaking of the dialogue, you can just see how hard it tries to be witty and Quirkyℱ the way Earthbound and indie RPGs like Undertale were. Needless to say, it fails horribly, and the end result of that was me having to fast-track some conversations because they were unfunny and weren't relevant at all
I got unintentionally (!) stuck in White Space for 15-20 minutes because I couldn't find the map the game needed me to find to let me open the door. Beev came to hate the repetitive 8-bit BGM the area had by the time I finally found the map lol. game_design.exe
Headspace's music is so ear-gratingly abysmal oh my god. I can only call it "dollar-store Kirby music" because that's the most appropriate description that comes to mind and I'm pretty sure Lost at a Sleepover gave Beev severe PTSD. Of course, the music of Faraway Town isn't any better: the "track" that plays in the first fight with Aubrey is less music than it is the result of an .exe file being put through an audio player. Sonic Chronicles might have some serious competition in the "worst video game soundtrack" category asdfghjkl
The plot of the Faraway Town segments is so cookie-cutter that it genuinely hurts to sit through. Character writing (or the lack thereof) aside, Sunny and Kel spend half a day loitering around the town and asking Aubrey's cronies where she is even though Kel could've easily gotten that information from Mikhael had he just indulged the latter's delusions of grandeur a little bit
Faraway Town's daytime sky is literally a scrolling JPEG of a cloudy sky. The battle backgrounds of the real world segments are edited JPEGs as well. Everyone's houses look exactly the same on the outside save for some of them being a different color. The developers spent six years and more than $200,000 on this game.
Sunny's fights against his fears are boring. You just need to wait until a particular turn when the game grants you a special skill you use to end the fight immediately. What was the point of designing these hallucinatory monsters if the player doesn't get to fight them at any point during the main route?
Aubrey (ostensibly) swinging a nail bat at Sunny is not treated with the same degree of realism as Sunny slashing her with a knife. Additionally, Aubrey rides away on her scooter just fine even though she's supposed to be bleeding
Mari's picnic baskets are inexplicably scattered all across the town and fulfill the exact same function as they do in Headspace. So much for realism!
I won two of the fights against Aubrey's goons even though I was trying to lose. gameplay.exe
Sunny is even more unpleasant than I remember. He doesn't respond to Basil - who is supposedly his best friend - when the latter talks to him, stays silent while (and after) Kel vents to him about Hero yelling at him and barges into the church despite Kel advising him to wait until the sermon ends. Why should I feel bad for him again?
Kel generally seems to treat Sunny like an actual baby, spelling out incredibly obvious things to the latter (e.g. that Sunny shouldn't be carrying a knife or walking in the road because it's dangerous) and making all of Sunny's decisions for him, to the point of not allowing Sunny to return into his own house until nighttime under the pretense of "there's so much to do! it's a brand new day!"
Finally, the "fight" against Sunny's fear of spiders comes completely out of nowhere since nothing triggered said fear during Sunny's adventures outside
Peak game, everyone.
And it's going to get way worse down the line!

Chapter 43 - Sunshine and Rainbows
CW: Sexual innuendo.
-
Fang let out a soft mrew when Edge picked him up. The one-eyed, ragged-looking cat immediately started purring as he cradled him to his chest.
Everything else he wanted to keep in their safe house was packed away, but he simply wasn’t sure what to do with Fang. On the one hand, if they had to abandon Underfell and take up residence in Underswap permanently, he didn’t want to leave the cat behind. On the other, he couldn’t imagine continuing to live in Underfell without him. More than that, though, bringing him to Underswap would feel too much like giving up on his own ‘verse.
He pressed his mouth to the top of the cat’s head, as he’d done when he was a child. “You’ll stay here with us,” he murmured to the cat, “But make yourself available if we need to evacuate. I don’t want to leave you behind.”
“boss, are ya givin’ instructions ta the fuckin’ cat?”
Flushed, Edge turned his head to glare at Red. “He’s certainly more likely to listen to them than you.” As if on cue, Fang started to squirm, tired of being held, and Edge released him to prowl the house. Red watched him race away.
“so, he’s stayin’ here?”
“He stays with us,” Edge said placidly. “It wouldn’t be right to keep him in an empty apartment, all by himself. And I can’t ask Paps and Blue—”
“yer bonefriends, ya mean.”
“—I cannot ask Paps and Blue to look after him,” he said, talking over Red even as the flush across his cheekbones darkened. “Are you ready, or do you have a stash of mustard to collect from somewhere?”
He patted a nearby box. “nah. got it here. ‘s a good vintage.”
Edge sighed, deliberately withholding a smile. He could not let Red know he found that stupid joke even slightly amusing. “And Slim?”
“last i saw, he was makin’ a backup ‘a his new collection.”
Edge nodded. It had taken weeks—and plenty of help from their softer counterparts—to acquire not only an mp3 player, but the equipment he needed to digitize any physical media he managed to find. Thankfully, the music files themselves were much easier to bargain for in the softer ‘verses, and he’d already managed to amass a respectable number of songs. Nothing like what he’d lost, but it was a start. All of his equipment would be stored in their safe house, but Rus had agreed to house a backup of his collection as well. Just in case. “Let me know when he’s—”
His phone pinged. ready, it said. Slim came down the stairs shortly after, hood pulled up and head down, so they could only catch glimpses of his skull and eyelights. At the foot of the stairs, though, he lifted his head just enough to meet Edge’s gaze and give a little nod.
Edge looked from one brother to the next, hands on his hips. “Let’s get started then.”
The belongings they treasured but didn’t need on a day-to-day basis were few in number, but Red and Slim needed to take several shortcuts to transfer them from the house to the machine. For his part, Edge was kept busy ferrying them from their cave to the Swap brothers’ basement. He managed a few boxes on his own, but when he paused to stretch his arms after a particularly heavy box, Blue came bounding down the stairs with an excited, “You’re early!” and nearly threw himself at Edge.
With a soft oof, Edge caught him up in a hug, then gave him a quick kiss. “I am. Where’s your brother?”
Paps cleared his throat then, making his away down the stairs at a more sedate pace. “here. heya, precious. we weren’t expecting you until noon.” He paused in front of him, arms spread. “do i get a kiss too?”
Blue pulled away, grinning while Edge eyed Paps. “That depends. Are you going to help, or—”
Paps pulled him in, and Edge allowed himself to be kissed. He looked between the two of them, soul warm and eyelights soft. He could hardly believe he’d been so lucky. Still in Paps’ arms, he reached for Blue, running his fingers over his coronal suture. Before any of them could say anything, though, the machine activated behind them, and Red stumbled through, arms full. He sighed loudly, seeing them. “so that’s why the boxes are pilin’ up. cripes, boss, can ya keep it in yer pants fer five minutes?”
Scowling, Edge pulled away from them to bicker with his brother. Between the five of them, though, they made quick work of the boxes, and soon enough, everything had been transferred to their new safe house. It wasn’t much. Just a studio-style apartment in Hotland. The kitchen was barely large enough for a microwave and a hot plate. For now, a mattress and a few scattered pillows were the only pieces of furniture present. It wasn’t a living space, but if everything went as intended, it would never have to serve as one. And, after several weeks of searching and bickering and falsifying paperwork, it was finally, officially theirs.
Paps’ arms folded around his waist, and he rested his chin on his shoulder. “happy, edgelord?” Blue took his hand, his fingers warm.
Edge looked between the two of them. “It’ll do,” he said simply. To Slim and Red, he said, “Can the two of you find something to do for the rest of the day, or do I need to think of something to keep you occupied?”
They exchanged a look. “yer kiddin’, right? after that many shortcuts, i’m due fer a nap. how ‘bout you, bro?”
In response, Slim flopped dramatically onto the mattress, arm folded over his sockets as if he’d fainted. Edge snorted. “Fine. I suppose you’re entitled to some rest. It was a busy morning, and you were both up early. For once.” Pulling free of Blue and Paps, he urged them toward the door, following behind them. “I’ll be back later, then. Keep me updated,” he said over his shoulder.
“on our nap?”
“You know what I mean, runt.”
“uh-huh. an’ where’re you goin’—” He pulled the door shut on his brother’s question, as if he hadn’t heard it.
Blue grinned at him, and Paps tried to silence his laughter. “What?” he asked.
“nothing. nothing at all.”
“Just glad we can finally have you to ourselves,” Blue added, falling into step beside him as they walked away from the safe house.
“yeah. considering we’ve been dating for nearly two months now, we haven’t actually had many dates.”
Edge winced. “Apologies. It’s been
” A nightmare. “
busy. In my ‘verse.” And any spare time he had had been sunk into finding the apartment.
Blue caught his hand and pulled him forward, away from Paps. “But you’ve got time now?”
“I cleared my schedule. Barring an emergency, I’m all yours today.”
Blue’s smile went impossibly wide, and stars danced in his eyelights. “Yeah?”
Paps cleared his throat. “that’s the plural ‘yoursïżœïżœïżœ. he’s mine too, bro.”
“Can I have him first?” Edge snorted but couldn’t find it in himself to even feign offense.
“sure. i think i’m due for a nap too, actually. i’ll see you two back at the house?”
“Perfect!” Blue took his hand and started to lead him back toward Snowdin. Paps snickered and offered Edge a teasing wave as he was pulled away.
Noting Blue’s pace, Edge smirked and asked, “Are we going to be late for something?”
“Hmm? No?” Realizing he’d been pulling Edge along at a near-jog, Blue blushed and slowed. “Sorry. I’m just excited, I guess.”
The naked admission—that Blue was excited just to spend time with him—made Edge’s soul warm. “I see.” He edged closer, freeing his hand so he could put it around Blue’s waist instead. “Well, if you have nothing specific in mind, then we’re already on our date, and we can simply
enjoy.”
A soft flush spread across Blue’s cheekbones, and he swallowed. Still, he smiled. “Right,” he said, leaning into Edge’s hold. As they walked—more sedately, now—Blue lifted his head and asked, “Hey, Edge—you’ve never really seen our ‘verse, have you?”
He quirked a brow-bone. “Of course I have. I’ve been all over the place the last couple months, searching for a suitable dwelling.”
“No, I mean
you’ve never just taken a walk through Waterfall and listened to the echo flowers.”
Edge cocked his head at the mention of echo flowers. “Why would you want to listen to the flowers? All they do is—” He stopped, realizing that these flowers probably didn’t mostly scream and beg for mercy. “Never mind. I think
I think I’d like that. Will you show me?”
A broad smile spread across Blue’s face. “Of course!”
Like his Waterfall, this part of the Underground was cool and dark, but there the similarities ended. It smelled of cool water and water lilies and cattails, clean and sweet and earthy by turns. The soft drip of running water echoed through the caverns, and the waterfall itself was a distant roar. Phosphorescent fungi and moss lit the space in shades of blue and green. It lit Blue beautifully, his magic and color scheme perfectly suited to their environs. Edge was tempted to steal a kiss but refrained. Though the space felt dark and private, he couldn’t help but feel there had to be eyes on them.
Blue seemed unconcerned by the possibility. Stars danced in his sockets as he tugged Edge along the path. “This way!” In another time, Edge might have found his openness disquieting, but now he couldn’t help but find it charming.
They stopped at a secluded pool of water, off the beaten path and surrounded by Echo flowers that only murmured back the sound of cave crickets and croaking frogs. Blue kicked off his shoes and sat at the side of the pool, allowing his feet to dangle in the water. Edge eyed the pool skeptically, but Blue just grinned up at him, waiting. With a sigh, he sat beside him and unbuckled his boots, setting them to the side. He rolled up his pant legs, giving Blue a look as he did, and dangled his feet in the water. It was warmer than expected, probably fed by an underwater stream that ran close to the lava pools of Hotland.
Blue leaned against his side, looking up at the ceiling. Edge followed his gaze. “Do you think that’s what the stars look like?” Blue asked.
Edge was quiet for a moment, looking at the phosphorescent fungi high on the ceiling. “
no.”
Blue laughed. “I’ve seen pictures. Papy has an astronomy book. I just
I can’t really imagine it. Looking up and seeing
.” He trailed off.
After a moment, Edge said, “I’ve always wondered what it would be like to see the sun rise.”
“Really?”
Edge had been braced for teasing, but Blue’s smile was open and eager. His shoulders lost some of their tension and he nodded. “Yes. I’ve heard it’s
nice.”
Blue’s hand found his, squeezing. “I want to see the sky.” The subtle tremor in his voice caused Edge to move closer and drape an arm over his shoulders. Blue curled into his side. “Do you think
one day
?”
Edge’s sockets shut and he rested his chin on Blue’s skull. “I don’t know,” he said, voice soft. “Perhaps.”
Blue didn’t respond for a moment. “Thank you,” he finally said.
Edge blinked. “For what?”
“Being honest.”
Edge pulled back so he could meet his sockets, wondering how many times someone had offered a comforting lie in response to that question. He ran a thumb over Blue’s cheekbone. “It’s good to have hope,” he said, “but false hope is another matter. I won’t lie to make you feel better.”
“Good.”
They sat in silence for a while, just gazing up at the false stars, their feet dangling in the water. Blue was warm beside him, and Edge was stunned at just how comfortable this felt.
But, being who they were, they could only remain still for so long. “C’mon,” Blue said, standing. “There’s more I want you to see.”
They followed the meandering path, hands brushing with every other step. Soon enough, the cool of Waterfall deepened to a pervasive chill. Edge smirked a little, looking down at Blue. “I believe I’m well enough acquainted with Snowdin.”
Blue just grinned. “Are you?” He pulled away to walk backwards in front of Edge.
Distracted—worried Blue might trip over something—Edge replied dismissively, “Of course. I appreciate the differences every time I come here.”
“But you’ve never taken the time to enjoy them.”
“I don’t even know what that’s supposed to mean.”
“Have you ever built a snowmonster or made snowangels? Gone sledding?”
Edge stared at him. He knew the words—they were common enough references in the human movies and books that made their way underground—but the question still stunned him. “I
.” He cleared his throat. “I can’t say that I have, no.”
Blue beamed. “Can I show you?”
After a beat, Edge nodded.
That’s how Edge found himself running through one of Snowdin’s clearings, deep in the pine forest outside the town, dodging snowballs while he scooped up enough snow to make his own. Blue ducked behind a tree to hide from him, but his muffled giggles gave him away. Grinning savagely, Edge added more snow, until it wasn’t so much a snowball but the beginnings of a snowmonster, then crept to the tree. He stood silent, waiting, until—
Blue peered from behind the tree, and Edge dropped the massive ball of snow on his head, earning peels of laughter. “I win!” Edge said, still smiling wickedly.
Blue shook the snow from his sockets. “Not yet, you don’t!” He dodged away when Edge tried to grab him, coming to stop on the other side of the clearing. Edge went to follow but slowed when he saw the blue bone floating inches above Blue’s hand. It spun in lazy circles while Edge’s steps slowed and finally stopped. His bones felt chilled, but Blue’s smile hadn’t changed at all.
“Blue?” he eyed the bone, not understanding.
The twirling bone slowed its spin while Blue regarded him. “Don’t you ever fight for fun?” he asked, head cocked. “It’s not all kill or be killed, is it?”
His knee-jerk reaction was denial, but in fact, he and Undyne regularly wrestled with each other and that wasn’t always for training. Slowly, he nodded. “Sometimes. Never with magic, though.” He eyed the bone.
Blue brightened. “You’ll like it—I promise!” The bone started to spin faster once more. “It’s about showing the other monster what you can do—without hurting them.”
Edge smirked, starting to understand. “So, you want a chance to show off, is that it?”
A faint flush colored Blue’s cheekbones. “I mean—a little.” The blush deepened. “But I want to see what you can do too.”
Warmth flooded Edge’s soul. “Do you, now?” Slowly, Edge eased into a fighting stance and watched Blue track the movement. For the first time, he was aware of the grace in it—the beauty of it, as well as the power. From the way Blue watched him, he seemed well aware of—and appreciative—of both. Edge’s soul swelled, preening at the attention.
Blue’s grin was broad and open. “I’ll go first,” he said.
“First?” Edge cocked his head, confused, until he remembered Paps’ first experience with Fell-verse combat. “Right,” he agreed, “you first.”
The bone twirling above Blue’s hand spun faster now, then—with a little twist of his control hand—it flung forward, whirring toward Edge. It was simple enough to dodge to the side, but the bone didn’t dissipate. Instead, it hovered at a distance behind and above him. He waited for it to complete its arc, but Blue cleared his throat. “It’s your turn.”
“Your attack isn’t finished.”
Blue beamed. “It’s a two-part attack!”
He said it with enough enthusiasm and pride that Edge knew he was meant to be impressed, so he offered an appreciative nod. “And you’ll just
wait to use it until I finish mine?” Blue nodded, and Edge hummed in thought. On the one hand, it was impressive to hold an attack like that. But on the other, it was a very poor strategy for a fight. “Why not just use it now?”
“Because it wouldn’t be fair.”
A fair fight. His soul twisted strangely. “I see.” He didn’t, but he was trying to learn. He raised his control hand, but all of his regular attacks were meant to take an opponent down with brutal efficiency. He had nothing crafted in the spirit of fair play.
So he improvised, pulling his control hand up and into a fist—as if scooping something out of the air—and summoned a line of red bones. They rolled through the snow, rising and falling to give the illusion of wave-like oscillations. Giggling, Blue leapt high; the bones passed under him harmlessly, fading out just a fraction of a second before he hit the ground. Edge had a moment to appreciate the grace of it—how perfectly they’d coordinated their movements—before he heard Blue’s attack cut through the air toward him. Without looking, he summoned a bone club, twisting to strike the attack from the sky in a shower of red and blue sparks.
His soul beat hard, feeling the power of the blow vibrate through his phalanges. Blue pumped the air with his fist. “That was awesome!” The stars in his eyelights spun, and he readied himself for Edge’s attack, bouncing on his toes.
Edge was beginning to understand the appeal of Tale-verse combat.
He drew himself up tall and straight, preening. “You’ll have to do better than that if you want to best me,” he said, flexing his control hand.
Red bones appeared at Blue’s back, ends sharpened to points, spinning lazily. The buzz of his magic was just loud enough to catch Blue’s attention, and just as he turned, Edge crooked his fingers, sending the barrage straight at him.
Red bones buzzed just past his skull as he dodged to the side, missing him by millimeters. Another slid just past his nasal aperture as he bent backward, and a third he caught in one hand, using it to swing himself up and over the remaining projectiles. He caught himself on his hands, using his momentum to spring backwards and land on his feet. He struck a pose, grinning broadly. It was a stunning display, and Edge found himself appreciating the flush of magic splashed across Blue’s cheekbones. But he only had a moment, before Blue returned the volley of bones, and it was his turn to dip, dodge, and deflect. As he readied his next attack, he took a moment to appreciate the way Blue’s eyelights traced over his body, lascivious and admiring.
It felt good. To use his magic—his combat magic, no less—cooperatively. It seemed more like a dance than a fight, each of them leading and being led by turns. Both of them crafting their attacks to showcase their strengths and to give their partner the opportunity to do the same. It was heady, and Blue clearly felt it too. Their “fight” brought them closer and closer each turn, until Edge found himself close enough to catch Blue by the waist and pull him close.
Blue grinned up at him, hands pressed to Edge’s chest. Stars danced in his eyelights, and his mouth was flooded with mana, the node at the hinge of his jaw glowing brightly. Edge cupped his face in one hand, smoothing his thumb over Blue’s mandible. He bent down and kissed him, mana lines prickling.
He broke away, murmuring, “Thank you.”
“For what? The kiss?”
“No.” He gestured to the clearing, to the mounds of disturbed snow, the glimmer of spent magic still in the air, sparkling. Everything clean and clear and dust-less. “For this.” If he’d ever taken joy in his magic, it had long since been overshadowed by horror. Blue had done something he’d never even considered possible and returned some of that joy to him.
Blue’s smile widened and his hand found Edge’s. He laced their fingers together as they started the walk back to Snowdin. “So it was a good date?” he asked.
“It was a very good date.” Though he didn’t have much experience with dating, he couldn’t imagine a better one.
As they walked, though, and as they drew closer to Snowdin, Edge started to feel a touch of unease. Blue was obviously strong and skilled. He’d known that before, but now he was sure of it—the kind of cooperative combat they’d engaged in required more skill, not less, than the brutal matches he was more familiar with. So, again, he wondered why this ‘verse’s Alphys wouldn’t allow Blue to join the guard. What, exactly, did Alphys believe she was protecting him from?
"Blue.” He stopped abruptly, and Blue slowed to look at him.
ïżœïżœEdge?”
He shut his sockets, taking a deep breath. And cursing himself for this. “Will you promise me something?”
Blue’s brow-bones lifted. “Um. Okay?”
“If anyone ever tries to hurt you, don’t fight fair. Fight to win.”
“
Edge
”
“It’s only a fair fight if both parties are playing by the same rules,” he said. Blue just looked up at him, unconvinced. “Please,” he added after a moment. “Indulge me.”
Blue sighed. “This isn’t necessary, but—if it will make you feel better—then, okay. I promise.”
Some of the pressure on his soul eased. “Thank you,” he said, and they resumed their walk.
Blue’s hand caught his, and Edge squeezed it, affirming the hold. “You know,” Blue said, smiling sweetly, “I think I like it when you ask me for things.” The words were casual, but his tone was teasing. “And you know I’m happy to indulge you.” Blue squeezed his hand, and mana flooded his cheekbones. Memories rose up—of that night in Rus’ kitchen, of Blue’s hands on him while he tended his wounds. Feeling warm and languid and—well. Indulged.
He cleared his throat but didn’t let go of Blue’s hand. “I will. Keep that in mind.”
Giggling, Blue simply said, “Good,” as they stepped into Snowdin proper. It was snowing lightly, and Edge held out his free hand, admiring the purity of it as flakes collected in his palm. Not a spec of ash or dust to be found.
A moment later, Paps appeared at his side, hands stuffed into his pockets. Blue leaned around Edge to get a better look at his brother. “Papy, you’re here!”
“am i too early?”
“Actually, your timing’s perfect! I need to go to Alphys’ for training.”
Edge glanced at him, suspicious. “You didn’t mention that earlier.”
Blue just looked up at him and shrugged. “I forgot,” he said, which was definitely a lie. "Anyway, she said she found a new anime series she wants to show me and I told her I’d show her how to make cinnamon rolls, so I probably won’t be back until late.”
Edge made a soft sound at the back of his throat. “How
convenient,” he said, crossing his arms. Blue just grinned, again walking backward so he could face the taller skeletons.
“you gonna have dinner with her, then?” Blue nodded. “okay, we won’t wait up for you. have fun!”
“You too!”
Edge snorted as Blue started jogging toward Alphys’ house. Paps glanced at him. “what?”
“Nothing. He’s just very
considerate.”
Paps stiffened a little, but then his shoulders eased and he snickered. “he is being a little obvious, isn’t he?”
“There isn’t a trail of rose petals leading to your bedroom, is there?”
Paps laughed. “no. that sounds like
.” He paused. “wait. would you like that?”
“No,” he said, voice choked by laughter. “I don’t want—of course not!” They walked together for a few steps, chuckling with shared amusement. Then Edge said, “Though I do hope you put fresh sheets on the bed,” and Paps stumbled.
“i. uh. yeah. i did. not that i was expecting—i mean, we don’t have to use them or—”
Edge chuckled again and slipped his arm around Paps’ waist. “And was that the only preparation you made for our date?”
“no. i, uh
i showered.” He rubbed the back of his neck, looking at Edge.
Edge nodded. “I can work with that,” he said loftily. “Since you made no other preparations, I propose—”
“little early for that, don’t you think?” Paps grinned.
Ignoring him, Edge said, more firmly, “I propose we do something simple. Dinner and a movie. Does that suit you?”
“yeah, that ‘suits’ just fine,” he said, echoing his words as he relaxed into his side. “you got a place in mind?”
Movement caught his eyelight, and he looked up, to see Muffet staring at them from a few houses down. Paps followed his gaze and went still and stiff beside him. He swore softly as she started purposefully walking their way. Edge turned toward him. “Are you alright?”
“yeah. i just. i haven’t seen her since
.” Underfell. Of course.
“Do you want to go?” he asked. It wasn’t fair, of course—this Muffet had done nothing wrong, Paps had no reason to be afraid of her—but Edge had more concern for the comfort of one his partners than for a stranger’s feelings.
“no,” he said, voice small, “she’s a friend. i
.” Edge just tightened his grip around Paps’ waist. Part of him would prefer to keep his hands free, but this confrontation called for him to provide comfort rather than protection.
They quieted as she drew closer, and Edge searched her features, trying to prepare himself. But her expression was difficult to read. She stopped a few paces away, looking between the two of them, noting the way Edge kept his arm firmly around Paps’ waist. Then her gaze settled on Paps, and she raised her hands to sign, “Is this why you’ve been avoiding me?” One of her hands not occupied with signing gestured to Edge. “Did you think I’d be jealous? Or hurt?”
“i.” Paps swallowed. “hi, muff. this is
.” His voice faltered.
“Edge,” he said, holding out his free hand. It was the wrong hand for shaking, but he wasn’t going to let go of Paps. Not now.
She eyed his hand, then took it in two of hers. With the other pair, she signed, “It’s good to meet you. I’d have loved to meet you earlier.” Turning back to Paps, she signed, “Papyrus, you didn’t have to hide this from me. I know what we were. I—” Her hands stuttered, then with both pairs—for emphasis, he imagined—she signed, “I’m happy for you. Really. I hope
I hope you don’t feel as if you have to choose between your relationship and our friendship.”
Paps shifted beside him. “i. i’m sorry,” he said, “i know. i knew you wouldn’t be upset. i don’t know why i
.” He bit off the words. Edge understood; it was difficult to lie to a friend, even when the truth would be impossible to explain. “i’m sorry. i hope
i hope you can forgive me.”
She sighed, one set of arms crossed over her abdomen. With the other set, she reached out and grasped them both by the shoulder. “You’re a very silly man,” she said to Paps. To Edge, she signed, “I hope you know what you’re getting into.” Her chelicerae softened. “And I hope you appreciate him. We’ll have to get together, you and I; I want to know more about the man that charmed our Papyrus.” She eyed them. “Now, I’ll forgive you—if you come to my cafĂ© for dinner. Too skinny, both of you.”
“we’re skeletons—”
“And too skinny. I won’t bother you on your date—I have work to do. And no time for silly men.” Her chelicerae were relaxed, and her signs were loose and flowing, softening the insult. “You’ll come?”
Edge looked to Paps, giving a little nod to show that he was willing, if Paps wanted. The tension had leeched from his bones as the conversation continued, and he nodded. “okay. yeah. we’ll come to the cafĂ©.”
“Good! Bring G. Your tab is suspended until you’re back in my good graces.”
Edge snorted, covering his mouth to muffle a laugh. “aw, c’mon, muff—that’s not fair.”
“You don’t see me for months and have the gall to talk about ‘fair’? Ha! You come to the cafĂ©, you eat my food, and you pay your bill. What’s unfair?”
Paps looked to Edge for help, but Edge just cocked a brow-bone. “Seems fair to me,” he said.
“you haven’t seen her prices.”
She just shrugged. “I have a family to support. You want me to take food out of their mouths to give to you? No. You pay your bill. Now—” She clapped one set of hands together, as if signaling the end of the argument. “—I have things to do before we reopen for dinner. I hope this little misunderstanding has been cleared up?” She looked to Paps, waiting.
After a moment, he nodded. “yeah. yeah. it’s all cleared up. again, i’m so sorry—”
She waved away the apology. “Our world is too small to hold grudges.” She touched him on the humerus, squeezing. “I’ll see you later, Papyrus. You and your new beau.” With that, she raised her hand and wiggled her fingers in farewell, slipping past them with a bounce in her step.
When she was out of earshot, Edge asked, “Are you okay?”
Paps was still watching Muffet’s retreating figure. He nodded. “yeah. i am. i
it was easier talking to her than i thought it would be.” Then his sockets widened. “what about you? are you—?”
Edge waved away his concern. “I’m fine. Actually, she reminds me of Slim’s Muffet.” Seeing Paps’ expression, he said, “She was
very helpful tracking him down. I couldn’t have done it without her help.”
“how was it?” Paps asked after a moment, “working with her?”
“Tense, at first.” Fell-verse partnerships always were. “But it was obvious she cared for Slim, and that made it easier.”
“and you’re really okay going to the cafĂ© tonight?”
Edge snorted. “I’d like to stay on her good side, if it’s all the same to you. We’ll need a very good excuse if you don’t want to attend.” He glanced at Paps, brow-bone cocked.
“no excuses. i think
i think i’d like that, actually.” His hand found Edge’s. “but i might need a smoke break or two.”
Edge nodded in understanding as they resumed their walk. “Take as many as you need. And if you need to leave entirely, just say the word.”
“thanks.” He squeezed his hand. “hope you brought plenty of g, though. i wasn’t kidding about her prices.”
Edge snorted.

Hours after the artificial lights had started to dim and the streetlights had come on, Red checked his phone. No new messages. He sighed, sharing a look with Slim, who just offered a small smile. Frowning, he texted Edge. status?
He waited. And waited. He drummed his fingers against his thighbone, still waiting. Finally, a message came through. S&R. Red sighed, but before he could reply, another message appeared. I’ll see you in the morning.
Reading over his shoulder, Slim pumped his fist, small smile blooming into a full grin. He held his hand out expectantly. With a huff, Red fished into his pocket, glaring at the phone. “yeah, yeah. here you go,” he muttered, putting 50G into Slim’s waiting palm.
A moment later, another message came through. Tell Slim he owes me half his winnings. And stop betting on my love life.
Red threw the phone across the room, while Slim laughed.

Tumblr media
sometimes I feel like everyone gets so caught up in their own head and Fanon that they forget to actually look at undertale and deltarunes actual content to see the messages and themes that are very clearly on display.
the lore of undertale isn’t exactly a mystery apart from Gaster everything else has been given to us, the only thing we haven’t gotten are things that simply never came up in conversation or had a reason to be explained. Toby never needed to explain anything more than he did because it wasn’t relevant and still isn’t. He gave us enough information for everything with or without the external content he’s produced for undertale.
deltarune is definitely more of a mystery, but there’s still a lot of world building that’s been set in stone that gets ignored even there.
but the problem is mostly with undertale.
like how am I still seeing people debating things that are already in undertale like it’s subtext u don’t need to know every detail or have it be shoved down ur throat to know it’s the truth it’s kinda implied.
taking everything at face value is wrong but making everything too speculative and too made up is also bad. Because then u loose the actual game and the brilliance of it. And good characters get undermined or misinterpreted.
like why do people think chara is the reason you kill it’s literally stated in the game that the player woke chara up when they named the fallen human and then when you gained LV from YOUR genocide that the game tells you outright that you caused yourself, they became stronger and like saw a new purpose or whatever. And referred to themselves as a demon.
like chara never made you do anything u did that like that’s the entire point of undertale it’s connecting the player, YOUR actions to that of the game. Like that’s the same with deltarune the player isn’t an ingame character, the player is YOU whoever is playing the game. That’s why it’s called the player. Seriously how do so many of you miss this?? It’s like. Literally the entire game
I see so many long time undertale fans seeming to have played a completely different game to me, like bro are we talking about the same game here?
Kris isn’t controlled by “the player” kris is controlled by YOU. Because. You are playing it. It’s connecting you to the game in the storytelling style that suits the genre the best as toby has previously used. The games magic stems from this inherent connection that gives the characters life as they literally live inside their own world inside a video game. Like that’s literally their reality.
There is no evil murder chara outside of the genocide ending. There is no “player” fictional character, there is no queen of England.
play the game after relearninghow to analyse media texts from your high school English class.
maybe then it’ll make sense to u and you’ll realise it’s not a giant mystery

Part 3 of my story about Sans undertale suddenly entering the Fnaf universe?
- - -
Tables can be pretty comfortable.
Well, when you're a skeleton, feeling uncomfortable while lying on a table isn't much of an issue, since, well... you're made of bones and all that. (Still, I wouldn't recommend it.)
Sans doesn't know why he's thinking about something like this right now, but he can't really concentrate on anything else at the moment. Perhaps it was a coping mechanism, a way to distract himself from the heavy silence that filled the room. For hours, he and Springtrap had been sitting in this room, each lost in their own thoughts, occasionally breaking the silence with random musings that never led anywhere substantial.
Springtrap sat across from him, leaning back in his chair, his metal joints creaking with every slight movement. His tattered ears twitched occasionally, betraying his restless state. The animatronic’s eyes, glowing with an eerie light, were fixed on a point somewhere in the distance, lost in contemplation.
Despite the aimless nature of their conversation, Sans couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something more to Springtrap’s silence. And he had to admit to himself—he was hiding something from the rabbit.
Sans already had an idea of what brought him here, after all, it's what he's been researching most of his life, even if he gave up at some point. He had seen so much, experienced so many different realities, and yet, here he was, in a dimension that was completely foreign to him. The very nature of this place and its inhabitants, especially Springtrap, gnawed at him. Sans knew there was more to Springtrap’s story, and he felt a strange compulsion to uncover the truth. But how could he expect Springtrap to open up if he wasn’t willing to do the same? Although, explaining the concept of time and space to a sketchy rabbit was a little worrying to the skeleton. The idea of other worlds being out there could have bad effects on the brain and damage its well-being, and to be frank... Sans didn't feel like risking damaging the rabbit's brain any more than it probably already was. Let's just say the skeleton was not looking forward to talking about this.
But even if he's not looking forward to it, he kinda has to do it. Springtrap is the only person Sans can rely on and the only person he's been talking to at the moment, yet something feels off about him. It wasn't just his deteriorated, patchwork appearance—although that alone was enough to send shivers down someone's spine. No, it was something deeper, something that seemed to radiate from within him. Springtrap's aura was palpable, a tangible force that seemed to reach out and grasp at your very soul. It felt as though the temperature dropped whenever he was near, the air becoming thick and oppressive. The shadows seemed to deepen around him, as if he carried a piece of the darkness with him wherever he went. Sans wants to trust him, but actually getting to that point...
Well, guess you just gotta learn more about 'em then.
"Aye, bunny," Sans exclaimed, his tone deceptively light.
Springtrap's eyes narrowed, a spark of annoyance flaring up in their glowing depths. "Don't call me that," he huffed, shifting uncomfortably in his chair, the metal joints creaking in protest.
Sans merely chuckled, unfazed by the animatronic's irritation. He adjusted his position on the table, fixing Springtrap with a curious gaze. "Look, I gotta ask you something," he began, his voice losing some of its playfulness.
Springtrap glared at him skeptically, the remnants of his face twisted into a semblance of a frown. "What do you want?" he finally responded, his voice a low growl.
Sans sat up, crossing his arms as he leaned forward slightly. "Answer some questions for me," he said, his tone taking on a more serious edge.
"No," Springtrap cut him off abruptly, his response as cold and sharp as the animatronic parts that made up his body.
Sans raised an eyebrow. "Damn... ya didn't even let me finish."
"I don't need you to," Springtrap retorted, his voice filled with a bitterness that seemed to echo in the empty room.
Sans's frustration started to bubble to the surface. He was usually the epitome of calm and collected, but this situation was testing his patience. "Why is it so hard for you to just tell me what exactly this place is—and what YOU are?" he asked, irritation seeping into his voice.
Springtrap stared at him for a long moment, his eyes unreadable. "...It's not important, is it." It wasn't even a question.
"Dude, it IS important. I need to know the place I'm at if we wanna get anywhere with this," Sans insisted, his usually laid-back demeanor cracking under the pressure.
Springtrap's expression remained unreadable, his gaze fixed on Sans with an intensity that made the skeleton slightly uneasy. Sans sighed, rubbing the back of his skull as he tried to gather his thoughts.
"Look," Sans began, trying to soften his tone, "I'm not asking for much. Just some basic info. We've been sitting here for hours, and we ain't getting anywhere without a little cooperation."
Springtrap scoffed. "Cooperation you say? If you want my cooperation so bad, how about you start with your story first and we'll see how we can go from there."
"I'm afraid I don't have anything interesting to share, buddy. I'm just a skeleton who likes puns and looks after his brother. That's pretty much it," Sans said, staring at Springtrap.
"And you expect me to believe that?" Springtrap scoffed. "You're hiding something, I can see it in your eye sockets."
Sans's sockets widened a bit, but he tried to show as little emotion on his face as possible.
Sans chuckled humorlessly. "Yeah, well, you're not exactly an open book either, bunny."
Springtrap's jaw tightened at the nickname, but he let it slide this time. "Fine. I'll answer your questions, but you have to answer mine too. Deal?"
Sans considered this for a moment. It was a fair trade, and perhaps the only way to make any progress. "Deal."
His ears twitched slightly, a subconscious movement that betrayed his heightened awareness. "Alright," he began, his gaze locking onto Sans's eye sockets.
"You know, I've noticed you have a different kind of aura around you," Springtrap said, his voice carrying a hint of curiosity mingled with wariness. "I don't know how to really explain it, but it's nothing I've ever seen before—and believe me, I've witnessed a lot."
As Springtrap leaned closer, his tattered form casting long shadows in the dim light, Sans remained vigilant. His hands stayed in his pockets, but his guard was up, his sharp eyes tracking every subtle movement. The room seemed to shrink around them, the air thick with tension and unspoken questions.
Springtrap continued, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Anyway, you're clearly not from here, so where do you REALLY come from, skeleton?"

Chapter 4 is up!!! This one is divided into three mini-stories, but they all come into the same plot. It's a very long chapter, so this will take more than two parts to get it up on Tumblr. Thank you for your patience.

Chapter 4: Around Town
"AHH... PERFECTION!"
Papyrus stood proudly, admiring his handiwork. The wall was looking rather spiffy! Sans was right, this muted, warm, cinnamon-like red really did make the place look ten times cozier! The cool dude wiped off sweat from his skull, smearing red paint on himself in the process.
"SANS, YOU WERE RIGHT! THIS RED DOES MAKE THE PLACE MORE..." He turned around, only to find that Sans wasn't standing where he was before. Wasn't he just rearranging the furniture with blue magic just a second ago? "SANS!!! DON'T SLACK OFF NOW! COME ON, WE HAVE A HOUSE TO REDECORATE!!!"
The sound of the fridge opening... Of course Sans was in the kitchen, why wouldn't he be? If Papyrus had eyelights like Sans, they would be rolling right now. After carefully placing his paintbrush in the tub of crimson paint, Papyrus stormed to the kitchen to find that, yep, Sans was raiding the fridge again. Un. Believable.
"SANS, DIDN'T YOU ALREADY HAVE BREAKFAST JUST TEN MINUTES AGO?! WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING?!"
Sans just staring attentively at the fridge. "bro, we've got a problem."
Papyrus doesn't have time for this! "WHAT IS IT?"
"the fridge is empty."
That gave Papyrus pause. Empty? He was sure he bought enough food to last two weeks. Have they really ran out already?
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN, THE FRIDGE IS EMPTY?"
"exactly what i said. it's completely empty."
Okay, great. Now he has to check the fridge for himself.
Huh, Sans was right. The fridge was COMPLETELY empty!
"HEY!!! I THOUGHT WE BOUGHT ENOUGH!! HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!"
Sans shrugged. "beats me."
Sans could see that Papyrus was suspecting him. His incredulous look was a DEAD give away. Or maybe even an UNDEAD give away. Heh.
"what?"
"...YOU'VE BEEN EATING AT NIGHT AGAIN, HAVEN'T YOU?"
Oh, crap.
"pfft, no... no!"
Papyrus could tell Sans was lying. The sweating, the sinking into his sweater... Yup, he was lying. Well, no use dwelling on that now. Looks like it's up to The Great Papyrus to go and get groceries... again.
The paint-covered brother facepalmed. "FINE. LOOKS LIKE I'LL HAVE TO GET GROCERIES. NO WORRIES!! I'LL TAP INTO OUR SAVINGS!!!"
"wait, but-" Before Sans could even finish his sentence, Papyrus was already digging through their sofa. They really needed a safer place to put their cash, honestly. Eh, he'll think of one later. As for now, Papyrus just needed to dig 26G out of the sofa-
Wait. 26G? That's it?!
"...SANS???!!???!?"
"uh, yeah?"
"WE ONLY HAVE 26G!!!"
"...ooh, boy."
"I KNOW!"
"we're screwed."
"I KNOW!!! HOW DID WE BLOW ALL OUR SAVINGS IN A WEEK?!?!"
"well, there was the paint... and the bills..."
"AND THE TAKEAWAYS..."
"and the fairy lights."
"AND THE NEW FURNITURE!"
"and don't forget your race car bed frame."
"WHY, YES! THAT TOO! ...SHOOT, DID WE REALLY SPEND THAT MUCH?"
"guess so."
It was then that Papyrus got an idea. A terrible, awful idea. He grinned mischievously. "YOU DO REALISE WHAT THIS MEANS, RIGHT?"
Oh, no... Sans already knows what's coming. He took a breath in anticipation. "we need to get a job..."
"DING DING DING DING!!!"
"nooooooooo..."
Ugh, seriously? Papyrus crossed his arms and stamped his foot, clearly annoyed with Sans' lazy attitude. "SANS, WE'VE BEEN PUTTING THIS OFF FOR A WEEK NOW!!"
"i know... well, we could go around to see if we can do odd jobs in town, i suppose. it's the least we could do after the snow boulder incident."
Papyrus blanched at the memory. Oh, yeah... The snowman competition slash war that almost went devastatingly wrong. How could he forget? But no matter! They can get back in the town's good graces! The Great Papyrus would never let almost burying the town in fresh snow stop him from making friends!!!
"EXCELLENT IDEA, SANS!!! WE CAN GO AROUND AND DO LITTLE JOBS AROUND TOWN FOR MONEY!!! I'M SURE SOMEONE OUT THERE'S WILLING TO HIRE US!! AFTER ALL, WHO COULD RESIST SUCH A HANDSOME, CLEVER, CHARISMATIC, GOOD-LOOKING, GENEROUS, COOL, STYLISH, BEAUTIFUL, BRILLIANT GUY LIKE ME?" Light was practically radiating off of Papyrus as he posed. Sans couldn't help but agree with Papyrus on that front. Then Papyrus remembered something. "OH, AND YOU, OF COURSE!"
Sans rolled his eyes and chuckled. He really didn't need Papyrus to include him like that, but it was the thought that counts. "yup. who could resist you and your ginormous head?"
"HEY!! I DON'T HAVE A GINORMOUS HEAD!!!"
Who was Sans to just strut past Papyrus after saying that?! He seriously wanted to rip that smug little grin off his face too.
"you have the biggest head i've ever seen." Sans grabbed the front door keys and turned to give Papyrus yet another Cheshire Cat-like grin.
The big-headed brother began to whine. "STOP IT, SANS!!!"

Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #40
Unexpectedly, I was out and about almost all day today.
I went first to the place with all the nice people. I brought the candied orange peels to share with everyone. The leader spoke today about the importance of being kind and welcoming to everybody. The notion of being inclusive and doing right by our fellow man instead of just paying lip service to love was spoken on. The balance between knowing that we are all scarred from life and also knowing that we are still indescribably beautiful was spoken on. The balance between knowing that we must be held accountable for our mistakes and strive to do better while also knowing that we are all inherently lovable and good was spoken on. Afterwards, the lovely gentleman who plays piano began to play a couple of different songs from Undertale; when I gave him the music box, he excitedly asked me to send along to him some video game song that he could learn to play. I had trouble deciding, so I made a list. You can find it here; maybe you'll enjoy some of these:
Since I only sent it to him yesterday, I wasn't expecting to hear any of what I sent today. Nonetheless, I was surprised and delighted to hear His Theme from Undertale being played on the piano! I was so moved that my eyes started leaking the water that I drank before leaving the house this morning, hahaha!
I was confused when he seemed ashamed of the few mistakes he made as he played. Mistakes are the natural result of effort; when the results of that effort produce joy, awe, and wonder without anyone getting hurt in the process, how can we spend so much energy focused on nitpicking how that effort was executed?
It's similar to watching someone who speaks a second language be ashamed of their accent; how do they not realize that the fact that they can even speak a second language at all is already amazing? Why focus on the accent instead of on the fact that you have the power to speak to so many more people, and on all the effort it took to get to the point that you can do such an incredible thing?
So the man who speaks music sometimes gets an, "I'm doing this on the fly to make someone else smile because I'm brave enough to do this unrehearsed" accent. It means that he might have to endure a harsh inner critic to put this smile on my face. How can I look at that and be anything other than awestruck? How can he look at himself and be anything other than awestruck by the kaleidoscopic vibrance of his own existence?
But then I realized that I fall into similar traps all the time; I lose track of "good enough" in my quest for "flawless" more often than I'd like, and sometimes the paralysis from this stops me from trying things in the first place.
Here's the thing, though: one of the most wonderful aspects about being alive is the fact that things don't need to be flawless or even complete for them to still be beautiful and perfect just the way they are. I wish that this was a thing that more people understood. I wish that this was a thing that I could understand better when it comes to myself or anything I do. I'll continue to work on it until I know it in my bones; it's important.
We returned home briefly, but then went out for pizza. It began to snow quite heavily outside along the way. I don't really like the snow, because the snow is cold and the cold makes my entire self hurt (for me, being touched with an ice cube hurts more than being burned on the stove), but I have a feeling that you might enjoy it, so after we returned home from pizza, I went right back outside to snag a few pictures for you. Here they are:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hope you'll pay special attention to those last few photos. I hope you'll see that the snow angel with one wing is just as lovely as the snow angel with two. I hope you'll see that the one-winged snow angel still has a place beside the snow angel with two.
I hope you'll see that you don't have to be flawless or even complete in order to be lovable, worthy, and good just as you are. Because I'll tell you a secret - not a single living creature is flawless or complete, and that fact about us is the thing that makes us ALIVE.
Think about it - a thing that is already flawless and complete never has to learn, grow, or change. Only dead or inanimate or static things fit that description. Do also consider that it is in the learning, growing, and changing that we are at our best and most beautiful. It is within our flaws and shortcomings that we are perfect. The love that exists within the struggle to endure the necessary pain to become kinder, gentler, and more loving for the people around us is where we are the most perfect. We are at our most perfect when we are overcoming destructive childhood conditioning. We are at our most perfect when we are treating someone with love even as we are gently holding them accountable for their mistakes. Without our flaws, these things wouldn't exist. The capacity to strive to choose love over annihilation or oblivion would not exist. Light cannot exist without darkness to compare it to. We need both sides of the coin for our little pocket of SOMETHING in the vast sea of NOTHING to continue to exist. And that coin has to SPIN - CONSTANTLY - if it stops moving, it falls over, static, inanimate, lifeless, dead.
We are all works-in-progress for the entire duration of our existence - no matter how many fancy (or not-so-fancy) meat-mechs we cycle through. We spend all our time learning, unlearning, falling down, getting back up, being stuck in place, moving forward, getting hurt, being afraid, and loving things and being brave anyway. We are all prismatic contradictions woven together into a thermodynamic miracle, and somehow we still have the audacity to believe that we are ordinary or powerless or less-than-beautiful. If you look at that from the right angle
it'd almost be comical if it wasn't so sad.
It's almost like
like watching butterflies believe that all they'll ever be is primordial soup as they chill out in the darkness of their cocoon, not even able to fathom that the soup is necessary for the next step, not even able to fathom that there will even BE a next step. It's a little silly like that.
And when we're done, we return to where we can remember all we have been so we can incorporate what we've seen into the bigger picture. And when we go back to start a new cycle, we forget it all once more so that we can begin again, washed and fresh, with new and curious eyes, no matter how many cycles we've gone through before. And if that's not the most beautiful, refreshing, and perfect thing there is, I don't know what else it could be.
Here is another example of an artist who wraps up what I clumsily tried to say quite nicely. This one says it better than I can, and thankfully, this one is still alive:
youtube
I
think I will end this here. I feel a terrible, terrible headache coming on. It's gonna get hard to think soon. Maybe I'll just go to sleep.
Hey, stay safe out there, okay? You haven't tried everything yet. Please remember that you're lovable and good, even if you might not always feel or act in accordance with that fundamental truth.
I'll keep writing to you. Every day.
Your friend, Lumine

And the truth came out
Summary: Sans decides to check out on Underlust one last time, never to step foot in there again, but, he finds his counterpart a lot more sober than usual and naturally, a conversation starts.
Warnings: Referenced sex, prescription drugs, check tags for further warnings.
Authors Note: "Hello Undertale Fandom!" shouted into an empty theater, anyways, if any of you are left (I know it can't just be me, right?) I'm just dropping this here for you, not sure how receptive ya'll are of Underlust at the moment, but I missed it, wanted to put on the good ol' headcanon goggles and write- anyways, reblogs are appreciated greatly and keep me going
---
"I wasn't always like this, you know that right?" Lust asked quietly, running phalanges along his humerus.
"I find that hard to believe, all things considered buddy," Sans said, he sat beside his counterpart who gave a weak laugh, it sounded forced.
"Yeah, fair enough, I have been sucking and fucking for so long it only makes sense, but, before me and Papyrus got dispatched and given our injection of Lust, I was just like you," Lust said, the somber tone he held was shocking to Sans who continued to listen in silence, flitting between eye contact and the prescription pills in Lusts free hand, "lazy, carefree, cracking jokes and capable of love- we uh, we're very, very different now."
"For sure," Sans answered with, Lust leaned back on the pavement below them, crossing one leg over the other, he looked content with himself to an extent as he twirled the bottle in his gloved hand.
"But, that's life, you fall asleep feeling buzzed and wake up feeling ill, that washed over real fast though, then I was just horny," Lust continued to explain, Sans could only nod, "not a whole lot of fun, I had an entire life planned out, just me and a hotdog stand, slacking off and keeping my brother safe; that didn't happen though," he popped open the bottle of pills and downed one, "not sure how much you know about that."
"Not a lot I s'pose, but hey, you ain't wrong about life doing that, just be grateful your Frisk didn't genocide you, over, and over, and over," Sans said, he gestured a little bit with his hands for emphasis, he stuffed them back into his pockets promptly and continued to stare at the bottle of pills- Lust noticed and quirked a metaphorical brow.
"Curious 'bout the drugs?" Lust asked, shifting from resting on his back to propping himself on his elbows, a light blue rose to Sans face upon being caught staring, Lust nearly breaks out laughing, "you don't have to be so pussy! Not like you caught me taking it up the ass," Lust handed the bottle to Sans who glanced over the instructions.
"You need hormone pills? Not to be crass, but you seem like the kind of guy whose had more than enough sex to kill a nun," Sans said, the confusion in his tone was visceral, even as he shook the bottle gently to punctuate his sentence with the sound of pills against plastic.
"No doubt about it, but yeah, a lot of us monsters are destabilizing without those magic pills, laced with our last source of Lust that's running out by the minute," Lust explained as he took the bottle again, dropping the second pill on his tongue, he could already feel his marrow start to buzz, it was addictive, "did you know that Souls can decay?" Sans shakes his head, he has so many questions bouncing off the sides of his skull all at once.
Sans had a hard time choking out an answer, "souls can decay?" Lust gave a nod.
"Yeah, when a human dies, the soul is usually in pristine condition and can be preserved for longer with the dying art of science, well, its dying in my Underground at least," Lust sounded rather sad as he explained, "I used to study biology in my spare time, try and find out why I was always so sad, then came the injection, couldn't focus afterwards."
"That sounds terrible," Sans manages to answer with, "you can come to my Underground instead- or join Ink, he'll help you, he'll fix whats wrong with you," there's a type of hope in Sans' tone, but his offer comes across differently than intended to Lust.
"No can do, I have to stay here and suffer out the rest of my days, I have a brother to protect no matter the cost and a human to learn from," Lust explained, the buzz in his bones got stronger, he could feel his mind begin to haze, but everything was starting to feel so much better at the same time, "I should be leaving before those pills really start to kick in," he stood up and brushed down his pants, Sans followed.
"Suit yourself, call me up next time those pills wear off man, I'll always have an ear to lend, if I had one that is," Sans grin is unmistakable and it makes Lust smile for just long enough to feel happy, Sans pulls him in for a brief hug and he bristles against it momentarily before sinking into the simple touch- he feels hazy now, he's going to make a bad decision if he doesn't leave, "see ya 'round," Sans pulls away and cracks open a portal, he turns to leave but Lusts grip lingers on his wrists.
"You're sure you don't want to hang around a little bit longer?" Lust asked, his tone was oozing need despite his better judgement, Sans noted the magenta hue that had already started to overtake the royal purple of his pupils, they were a bit larger than usual, and his touch felt fiery.
"I'm sure," Sans said, prying away phalanges and hopping through the portal, he turned to face Lust, finding that vibrant magenta had already started to tint his skull; he closes the portal.
Sans knew that meant Lust was getting, well, lusty, to put simply, he just didn't know that there were drugs involved to keep him that way up until tonight. He didn't know that they really did live in a fuck or die world over there, he simply assumed it was just an overstatement to keep anyone who didn't belong out. He could've just, never entered, never learned, and never tested, but, he's almost glad he did, even if Lust doesn't remember to call him up when the drugs fade.
It's kind of weird.
One event change and he would be living a completely different life.
He starts on his way to the libarby, they must have some books on biology in there- if Lust can't figure out why he used to be so sad, then Sans will. He'll try to at the very least, he's still not entirely sure of how far he'll get, but expectations of living be damned, he can sure can do shit for a friend.

Now you have a new mom, and a new family, but no extra brain to help you make the right choices. It might have lasted, too, if you hadn't messed it up."
this is called frangst (Frisk Angst) and it's mostly about Sans and Frisk and a really bad situation
anyways I've been kinda on/off working on this for months, so most of it is already written! BIG HUGE SHOUT OUT to @kaliawai512-v2 for reading this and giving me some insightful and super helpful feedback, go read their stories if you haven't already!
TW for some intense emotions and results of emotional and verbal abuse in later chapters, I'm a bit of a wimp myself but I kinda maybe definitely cried maybe more than once writing this- allegedly

You sighed, laying in the backyard under the shade of the big oak tree mom tended to so well. She was inside making dinner- you could hear her humming to herself through the open window. She insisted it remained open, because-
"Ugh, is this really all you do? Just sit around? You've been spending too much time with Trashbag."
You sighed again, this time in exasperation. You opened your eyes and turned to see the plant in question giving you a dirty look. It was no wonder mom didn’t exactly trust him.
"It's a little mean to still call him that," you said. "He gave you a sandwich at that party one time, remember? That was really nice of him."
"Uh, yeah, you asked him to do that and Papyrus said if he didn't he’d be disowned. I bet he tried to poison me with it."
You rolled your eyes, but it was with a smile. "How much?"
Flowey groaned, blew a raspberry, then hit you in the face with a floppy leaf. "Fine, you called my bluff. He's not really the type to do things, I guess."
You sat up, pulling your legs in to sit criss-cross. Flowey's pouty, ever-cranky face had a bit of happiness in it. He poked a bruise on your leg.
“What’s this from? That’s probably a more interesting story than anything to do with Sans.”
You swept his vines away. “I ran into the coffee table. Papyrus was chasing me.”
“Stupid. You two are like dogs- like little baby dogs, you know that? Chasing each other around the house, you’re-”
“We’re dogs,” you finished, smiling. “I get it. We both like to run and play- is that a crime?”
“It should be,” Flowey said. “If I had my way, it would be. And no more of the idiotic play-fights you have with Smiley, those are just horrible to watch. You don’t even hit each other enough to do damage! Weirdos!.”
“C’mon, you should come with us and get suplexed by Undyne sometime. It’s her favorite activity.”
Flowey shuddered, and it was funny to watch it run up his stem and shake out into his petals. “Eugh. I don’t understand how you shrug off getting bruised and bloody ‘playing’ with these losers while also being the biggest wimp I’ve ever met.”
You smiled, idly touching the small mark. Mom had scolded you (and Papyrus) thoroughly and made it quite clear that any chases had to happen outside from then on. It was funny watching a grown skeleton sheepishly twiddle his thumbs in shame.
"Where have you been, by the way?" you asked Flowey, reaching over and brushing some dirt off of his petals. You pretended not to notice him flush and straighten his stem, but it was funny regardless. Maybe if he came around more he'd get used to casual, platonic dirt-wiping.
"Oh, you know. Here and there. Doing some research, sight-seeing, that sorta thing," he said, flipping a leaf nonchalantly. "You wouldn't get it since you're stuck here all the time with Miss Fussy Paws."
"You mean your mom?"
Flowey gave you a real dirty look this time, and you shrank away, a quick 'sorry' coming out.
"She's your mom, idiot. She's... not mine right now."
"Right now?" you pressed, feeling at-ease enough to risk angering this one friend. Actually, he was probably your only friend you felt this comfortable with. It wasn’t like you could really hurt his feelings- he didn’t have any.
"Yeah- well- maybe not forever I dunno GOSH let's stop talking about this!" Flowey complained, dramatically flopping his head on the ground. "I didn't come to talk about that!"
You nodded. "Well, what did you come to talk about? I haven't seen you in months." Flowey had first popped up half a year after they'd all made it to the surface, going back on his self-promise to stay underground and out of their hair. That had been almost two years ago, and he'd come around only a handful of times since. They were always welcome visits despite his propensity towards being a pot-stirrer.
"You, silly goose!" he said, popping below the ground for a quick second and then back up on your other side, even closer. He slapped away another attempt at keeping him dirt-free. "I was thinking about your SAVE!"
You raised a brow at him. "Uh... okay?"
"You can still do that, right? You didn't turn into a spineless wimp?"
"Yeah, I think so, but it's been a long time since I have. If I'm never going to reset or reload or whatever again, what's the point in bringing up a SAVE?" You’d reset only a handful of times, always because you died and lost your nerve- deciding it was easier to go back to the beginning than to press forward and keep dying. You shivered at the thought.
Flowey grinned. "What if you could do something cool without resetting?"
You went quiet. You looked up at the window, heard mom still humming away, and then back to the flower.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, listen- you know that one part in that one god-awful movie where that wizard finds a wardrobe that rewinds time kinda but ONLY on the one object? I think he does an apple but I honestly don’t remember, it was boring. Do you know it?"
"Ew, you watched that? The author is a mega-bigot."
"Okay, I don't care! Shush!" Flowey said. "Humans are WEIRD and I'm not learning about all the ways you hate each other- my point is that it made me think about you and your resets!"
You rubbed your face. You needed a haircut, you noticed as you pushed the longer-than-normal bangs aside. You'd have to talk to Mew Mew soon, she’d been getting into that sort of thing.
"Flowey, I don't think that's a good idea. I don't want to mess with stuff like that anymore, I promised myself and everybody here that I'd never do it again."
"And you won't!" he said with a wink. You opened your mouth to protest the wink and whatever implication he was making with it, but Flowey was quick to stretch his stem way up and put a leaf to your lips. "But that and some other stuff got me thinking about the possibilities of all that determination in you. Do you see where I’m going yet?"
"No, not really," you said, arms crossed. "You had practically eternity to mess with all that before I came along, if it could be done you would have figured it out."
"Not true! I might be clever but I never had the full picture."
"Inspiration from Transphobe Supreme?"
Flowey stared at you for a second. You groaned, knowing full-well that most monsters didn't know what that meant, and moved on.
"Look, I just... I just don't want to mess with it," you said, rubbing an arm. "I might not have cared so much before, since I didn't know anybody that well and things felt too good to be true, but... but now I know they are true and I'm not going to risk any of them getting mad at me."
Flowey rolled his eyes. "Really? You're not going to try and figure out if you have super powers cause you're scared mommy will get mad?"
You looked away. Yeah, that was exactly what you were saying. Mom, Undyne, Alphys, Papyrus, Sans, Asgore- all of them knew about the resets and if they found out you were messing with determination and SAVES, they'd be mad. Well, one person in particular would be way more mad and it was because he knew way more than the others. You weren't going to put family grocery excursions with the skeleton brothers at risk.
"Friiiisk," Flowey whined, laying his head on your thigh and warping his face into a big-eyed, pleading expression. "C'mon, I've done a lot of poking around the SAVE-data and all that reality-fabric stuff, I know what I'm doing! We just have to alter some of it, not all! Imagine how cool it would be to reset just a little bit! Sans and Papyrus have some irregularities in their data and it lets them do that cool stuff they do!"
"Nope," you said, turning away from him. "I won't imagine it because it's pointless."
"It's not pointless, you just haven't thought about it!" Flowey exclaimed, annoyingly popping up right in front of you again. "What if you could reset the brown bananas on the counter to be yellow again? Or- or reset a plant all the way back to a seed?"
You tried to pivot away from him, but he popped right back up. You opted to close your eyes instead, arms crossed tightly.
"... dust back to a monster?"
You looked down at the flower, staring up at you with a smile.
"I know you care about all these losers, but what if something bad happens to them ? If Alphys keeled over tomorrow, are you telling me you wouldn't be tempted to reset to last week?"
"Well... well, maybe I’d think about it, but-"
"What if Undyne begs you to, and you do, but then Sans never forgives you?" Flowey asked. You bit your lip- you knew he was just trying to get what he wanted, but he was way too good at it to ignore. Especially when it hit so close to home and what kept you up at night.
"You can't say it wouldn't be nice to just bring her back."
"Of course I can't, but... but that's not how life is. Nobody else gets resets and it- it isn't fair to them." You stared at the dirt between your legs. "...I heard mom and Sans talking one night, and he said that he knew about me a long time ago. He said I was an 'anomaly' and that he'd spent years trying to figure out how to..." You swallowed. "... to stop me."
"Stop you?!" Flowey balked. "Stop you from what, existing? That guy is a trashbag if he-"
"He didn't know," you said softly. "Him and mom had drank a little bit and they thought Papyrus had taken me outside to catch lightning bugs, but he'd actually just fallen asleep on the porch cause he drank a little bit, too-"
"Love the details but I'm dying to know the point," Flowey pressed.
"The point is he didn't know I was there and he said he still doesn't really believe I won't reset again, all the way back to the beginning. Mom said she knew me and she knew that I wouldn't, but that she understood. I didn't hear the first half of the conversation, but Sans sounded kinda sad." You sniffled, not quite crying but almost there. "I think he blames me for something, and I don't want to make him mad."
Flowey stared at your shirt for a few moments as he processed what you'd said. Toriel's humming could be heard in that time, occasionally turning into singing and then back again. The sun was going down in earnest.
"Well, for one," Flowey began as he crossed his own leaves, "we aren't going to reset on accident, but also- if Sans ends up not trusting you, would that really be the end of the world?"
"Yes," you said with a waver in your voice, and the tears won out. Flowey seemed surprised, leaning his stem away from you, and it gave you a chance to rub at your eyes with the sleeve of your shirt. You grit your teeth, eyes closed, before taking a few deep breaths like Alphys had taught you to, letting the anxiety ease. She knew about your anxiety, and that was all she’d know.
When you opened your eyes, Flowey was looking up at you in... worry? It was something close to it, at least. Mixed with disgust, as usual.
"You, uh... you good?" he asked.
You wiped your nose as you pulled your knees to your chest. "I know you think you know everything, but you don’t ." You felt a little bad being so blunt with him, but you didn't know how else to communicate with the soulless plant. "They're my family, Flowey. My only family."
Flowey's brows knit in confusion before his expression evened out again. After another moment, he frowned.
"I don't want to lose them," You mumbled into your knees.
For once, Flowey didn't  have something smart or rude to say. He wilted a little bit, looking off at nothing. You did your best to hide your face, embarrassed to have cried so easily. Flowey- Asriel- had been through so much, but he had grown up with a family who loved him. A mom and dad- a sibling- people who would still love him if he let them back in. It had taken you ten years to find a semblance of that in a bunch of monsters you hardly knew, and you’d do anything for it.
You didn't talk about how things had been before you wound up Underground. You didn't want to just be the scared kid from a bad home who cried too much, and you'd been doing such a good job. When the fear rose up- when you felt even the slightest bit rejected or annoying- you had kept it in. You only cried when nobody was around. You didn’t have Chara to help you make the right decisions anymore- it was on you to do that from here on out. And that pressure was suffocating after a brief time of having a second, smarter opinion in your brain. One that everybody liked more than the real you, probably.
So, yes, if even one of them suddenly decided you were not worth it to keep around, it felt like your world would end.
"I try to forget a lot of the stuff that I learned when I was still a monster, but I don't think family is supposed to be conditional," Flowey finally said in an uncharacteristically soft voice. He looked up at you, face as normal as it could be in his state. "Sure, they might be losers, but I'm pretty sure none of them would show you the door over one little mess-up."
"But you don't know that," you whispered, looking over at the kitchen window where mom was busy baking. Your mom, in your house, where you felt safe.
What if something happened to her? What if she got really sick and then you were left with nothing again?
You wouldn't reset- you would never reset or reload, even if thinking about anything bad happening to Toriel made your stomach twist up in knots. But what if Flowey was actually right... what if there was a way to use your power for something else?
"I know them, though,” Flowey continued,  “and I know Toriel would never just boot you out. Papyrus would overlook literal murder."
You wrinkled your nose at that, and Flowey was quick to shrug and say:
"Don't ask. But, pal, even if they do get mad at you, isn't it worth it to find a way to protect them? Some might not understand, but if we can mess with your SAVE without resetting- which we can- isn't being able to bring them back from the dead worth a little bit of emotional turmoil? We might even find some crazy, less reality-bending thing you can do! You’re a human with determination, after all- I’m just a houseplant."
Flowey had a point and you hated it. You looked at him, tears tucked safely away again, before you reached down and patted the top of his petal-y head with your hand. He groaned in not-quite protest.
"Yeah. I'd do anything for you guys."
Flowey's blush at the sentiment quickly faded as he flapped his leaves together in excitement. "Really? You'll do it?"
"I'll help you look into it. But I'm not promising anything- if it looks even a little bit dangerous-"
"Then we stop!" Flowey chirped, moving forward and hugging your wrist. "Oh, wow, I'm so glad I got through to you! I'll be back tomorrow evening, friend! I have to get a couple things ready!"
You smiled. Even if you were uneasy about this, seeing Flowey so happy made it feel far more bearable.
"Okay. Do you want to stay for dinner?"
"Nope! See ya tomorrow!" he said, and just like that he was gone.
You let out another big, deep sigh. You looked up at the leaves, swaying gently in the breeze, dappling the ground below with soft patches of light.
Toriel came out ten minutes later to get you for dinner. She still wore her flour-covered apron and a loving smile, though the latter of the two was hardly ever absent.
“Dinner is ready, my child.” Toriel called. She looked around the yard. “Where is Flowey? Is he not joining us tonight?”
You got to your feet and went to your mom, giving her a big hug. You laid your face on her torso regardless of the powder on it. She smelled like the kitchen and cinnamon. She smelled like home.
Toriel hugged you back, getting down on one knee to be easier to reach. She nuzzled her soft cheeks into your hair, something so sweet and affectionate that you weren’t sure you’d ever get used to it.
“He had to go. I tried to get him to stay but I think he’s still a little nervous.” You didn’t mention that it was because Toriel was his mother, because Flowey had not told her that in this timeline and it wasn’t your place to do so.
Toriel laughed. “He does not strike me as the nervous type, but we all have our fronts, do we not?” she said, standing and swooping you up into her strong, furry arms.
You squeaked, then giggled. “You don’t have to carry me to the table, I can walk,” you said as you snuggled close to her. Even without your second opinion brainworm/safety net combo, you felt safe with Toriel. She was the only one that you trusted to be there no matter what, even if you said the wrong thing. Even if she maybe didn’t like you as much as she’d liked you with your plus one.
“Of course I do not have to, but I want to, and so I shall,” she said, kissing the top of your head. She hummed as she began the walk back to the table, a hand shifting to run across your forehead and move your bangs. She was always so mindful of her claws. “Do you want me to contact a hairdresser soon, dear child? Your hair is getting longer than you usually wear it.”
“Yeah,” you said simply. Toriel noticed the hair, too- it really should have felt normal by now, but having someone care so deeply still felt alien. You closed your eyes and let yourself be carried back indoors. Tomorrow you’d see what Flowey had planned, but tonight you wanted to help Toriel clean the kitchen and watch a silly movie with your newly-acquired mother.

What do you do when there’s not much to an AU? You make up your own stuff, ofc. And as is per usual when I make Character Designs, I make up a shit ton of lore too.
The ramblings under the cut, but what I’m really interested in, is what you guys think. Do you guys have any headcanons/ideas for this AU? Let me hear them! Also, if you don’t wanna read on tumblr, here’s the Google Docs link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/151yshHxnb_--P6eMKkwkI2dee9xC_Llb/view?usp=sharing
Before I get into the characters’ roles, here’s some general facts and backstory of their town:
- Basically, it’s Undertale meets Harvest Moon / Stardew Valley. Well, kinda. I at least used that approach for coming up for the jobs for the characters. You know, how there’s always a general store, a doctor, a smithy, etc.
- The usual story of a HM game is that you come to a town that’s way past its glory days and you, as the player/farmer, help them get back to that. The “backstory” of the town is that that already kinda happened. I’ll get into it more in the character description, but basically when Asgore was still mayor, the town got really popular. Then yadda yadda, a certain tragedy happened, two kids died, and the town suddenly got very bad publicity. There was a lot of stuff going on back then, bad reputation being spread and also a lot of law stuff, cos, you know, supposed child murder ‘n all, so Asgore made the decision to shut off the town to ppl from outside. This was in the interest of most monsters living there, because as fun as it is to have a lot of people coming there, most just wanted to live a quiet life. Not everyone was happy with that though, so many moved away from town and some others are trying to get the town back on its feet. But more on that later.
On to the characters:
I’m just gonna start with the skelebros, cos it’s their fault in the first place I got so invested.
Basically, they are what the player is in hm/sdv. They just showed up one day, took over the abandoned farmhouse and began their life there. The two came to town way after it was “closed” and since then a new mayor has opened the possibility for new residents to move in. Their farm helps the economy of the town a lot and the mayor, like usually in hm games, is trying to use that to make the town more known again. The skelebros aren’t really working towards that goal however.
So, now a bit more detail on them individually.
Papyrus:
- The design is mostly based on what’s “canon” in this au.
- He works mostly on the fields and is in charge of the crops. Their fields aren’t spectacularly big, but still big enough to plant a few dozen rows of veggies.
- Paps also helps out a lot in town when he has the time. He helps Asgore with his plants, he goes fishing with Undyne, helps Toriel carry crates around and so on. This is inspired by the part-time job mechanic in HM ToT.
- Unbelievably, in this AU Pap is not an absolutely awful cook. Since he helps out at Muffet’s and Grillby’s a lot, they tend to show him some tricks to cooking. Even though Pap’s not a big fan of the greasy or overly sweet cooking those two do, he picks up a lot.
Sans:
- Again, design mostly based on the “canon” look. Maybe a bit more baggy.
- This is finally an AU this dude gets to rest. Since there are no resets and he doesn’t have to see his bro die again and again, for once in his life, he’s not a sad ball of depression. He’s just a chill and lazy dude that loves to make puns. Though, since he’s not too experienced with the feelings of loss, helplessness or grieving, he still tends to hide behind puns and fakes smiles if he does feel bad.
- Sans is in charge of the animals on the farm. Papyrus begrudgingly gave him that role since Pap’s loud demeanour and hectic movements usually scare the animals. Sans’ relaxed attitude draws the animals to him naturally and even if Pap mostly finds him sleep against a tree, in a stack of hay or on one of the sheep, the animals are always fed, healthy and relaxed, so Sans seems to be doing his job.
- Sans always has a small chic sit inside his hoodie or hat. Is it always the same one? Who knows, maybe.
- Sans also, somehow, can produce eggs out of thin air. Grab into his hoodie pocket, in his pants pocket, in his hat, in his slipper, there’s suddenly always an egg there. On good days he can even make butter or cheese appear.
Gaster:
- He’s literally just a scarecrow in this. Though, if you ask any of the bros why they designed their scarecrow that way, they won’t have an answer.
Frisk&Toriel:
- Frisk is mostly based on what I wore myself as a kid in summer. Just a loose shirt with a cappy. Toriel basically has her ut gown, just with an apron on top.
- Frisk just appeared outside the “magical” forest one day. Napstablook and his cousin found them and brought them to Toriel, who has been taking care of them since.
- Toriel runs the general store in town, but also often takes care of the few kids that still live there.
- Frisk usually helps out in Toriels store, plays with the other kids or sits around at Asgore’s. They’re notorious for nabbing small snacks, mostly from Asgore’s plants. You’ll always find them munching on something.
- Frisk was in town before the skelebros. Since they’d moved in, Frisk often went to spy on their farm. After a small incident with angry chicken, Frisk got to know the two better and now they see them as something between brothers and uncles.
- But Frisk honestly gets along with everyone. Just like in UT, they’ve not only been adopted by Toriel but literally everyone.
- Toriel and Asgore’s relationship is not as bad as in the main game, since, you know, Asgore didn’t kill literal children, but there’s still tension between them. Back when Asriel and Chara died and the whole thing with the bad rep for the town began, Toriel felt betrayed by Asgore focusing more on the town than giving their deceased kids the grieving they deserved. They’re not divorced, but Toriel still moved out and said needed space to think. Now that Frisk is in the picture though, the both of them are slowly coming to even ground and may even be able to talk things out and clear up the uncertainty of their decisions.
Asgore:
-Asgore has his UT Ending / Deltarune clothes, just with a gardener’s belt.
- He’s the previous mayor of the town, but after all the crap that happened, he stepped down from the position. Now he has his own little shop and sells seeds, saplings, homegrown veggies and fertilizer. So, basically what e.g. the Marimba Farm is in HM AP
- His main customer is Papyrus and they’re on friendly terms. Asgore is worried about how much and how hard Pap works, so he often gives him a discount.
- Since his family’s past tragedy, Asgore is kind of nervous around kids. So, when he first met Frisk, he hoped they’d not visit him too often. But to his chagrin, Frisk took an instant liking to him and spends a lot of time at his shop (and steals eats the fresh grown veggies). Now, he’s really grateful for that, because for one, he loves Frisk as dearly as he had his own children, and also because now the tension and mistrust between him and Toriel seem to grow smaller day by day.
Undyne&Alphys:
- I gave Undyne a pretty basic fisher’s outfit. Alphys basically has Elli from HM’s outfit, just a bit more doctory stuff added. She still has her canon lab coat too.
- In essence, Undyne and Alphys have 2 completely different jobs. Alphys is the resident doctor and Undyne runs the fish market.
Two things. Yes, I know Alphys is more a mechanic than a doctor, she fits the aesthetic though, so she’s the doc now. And no, Undyne being a fisherwoman is not cannibalism, think of it more as a shark hunting smaller fish.
- The reason I lump them together is because they act as the local “smithy”. Alphys is still really tech savvy in this (I mean, Mettaton is still part of this AU), so she takes on most problems with electronics and stuff. For Undyne, I didn’t want to lose her Royal Guard’s Captain image, so she’s really good at handling tools (and weapons, but Al doesn’t let her make them anymore). So basically, if there’s a broken tool, you can be sure that either Undyne or Alphys can fix it.
- As for relationships, those two are still an item. Alphys is still really shy and a shut-off, but since Undyne and Pap become best friends, she gets to know the skelebros better. She and Sans especially get along well, since most of the time Undyne and Papyrus are let loose, they sit back and talk about science-y stuff. (no, Sans doesn’t have a background in science but he’s still into sci-fi)
- Alphys has a bit of a strained relationship with both Asgore and Mettaton.
Back when Chara and Asriel died, it was because of “illness” (maybe poisoning?). Alphys feels awful because with her back then limited knowledge on medicine she couldn’t help the two. Asgore doesn’t hold anything against her but Alphys can’t help but feel guilty.
Alphys still built Mettaton’s body in this one. The two had a really big disagreement, because Mettaton hated the fact the town was going to close, and he couldn’t understand how Alphys could feel otherwise, even more so endorse the idea.
Mettaton, Napstablook, Mad Dummy/Mew Mew:
- Napsta and Dummy are pretty self-explanatory, they got straw hats. Mettaton’s outfit is a bit of a joke cos it’s a play on “work at the top and party at the bottom”. The tie has two different sides, one with the yellow red pattern, the other completely red. His “top part” is the business part, because when he’s on tv or in the mayors’ office, you don’t usually see his feet. The bottom is his party/dance part, cos his dancing/entertainment channels mostly feature his legs.
- Mettaton, still a robot, Napstablook and Mad Dummy are all still cousins in this AU.
- Originally, they all lived and worked at the Blook Farm, the Animal Farm of this AU. Mettaton, however, despised that simple live and after befriending Alphys and her building him a body, he left the Farm to pursue bigger things.
- Mettaton runs the local tv network. From weather to game shows, he does it all. He also runs the tailor shop in town that sells his designer clothes and merchandise. After Asgore stepped down, Mettaton also took over the role of town’s mayor and now works towards making the place more known again. Not everybody is happy with him doing that though.
- One of those people is the Mad Dummy. He can’t stand people anyways and he always claims that history would just repeat itself.
- Since the whole family is made of ghosts, they have different dummies and scarecrows they can use to take care of the animals. To mock Mettaton and kinda get back at Alphys for giving MTT such an opportunity, Mad Dummy found the blueprints for the Mew Mew robot and now modelled one of their scarecrows after it.
- Napstablook isn’t fond of taking over obejcts like his cousins do, so he mostly takes care of the snails. Somehow, he can interact with them even when incorporeal.
Muffet&Grillby:
- The two of them run the Inn together. Muffet cooks in the daytime and makes desserts, Grillby manages the bar in the evening.
- The two still can’t really stand each other but working together like this benefits them both because their rivalry just spurs them on more.
- Even though Grillby is a patient person, somehow Muffet is the only person who riles him up enough to retaliate. (Well, maybe except for Sans, he’s a strong second).
So, basically everything between those two is a challenge in some way. Even if Papyrus doesn’t notice, even his cooking lessons are a challenge for them.
- Even though they’re constantly bickering, after working together for so many years, there’s a strange level of respect and trust between them. Even if back when they first started this business, they’d pour salt into an already open wound, nowadays they’d know better and just take a step back from the other or even comfort the other (on very rare occasions only).
Asriel&Chara:
- They be dead. Kinda.
Some Characters that’d live in that town too but that I haven’t made designs for:
- Gerson is the original smithy of the town. He’d grown up in a family of smiths, but he’d always had an appreciation for the sea. That’s why, when the town became more deserted and Undyne had a good enough skill level as smith, he took up the Captains hat and now mostly spends his days out on sea. He also ferries people to places if they need him to. Oh, and just like in canon, Undyne learned most of her skills from him.
- Burgerpants is a poor dude Mettaton basically kidnapped when he was trying to get fame in the city. Now Burgerpants works wherever MTT needs him to, be that as cameraman for the tv shows, cashier in his tailor shop or his slave secretary in the mayor’s office.
- MK is Frisk’s best kid friend. MK’s parents are in charge of shipping the goods out of town and paying the individual people. MK’s the one that usually collects the goods at the end of the day.
- Other than that, there are only a few people in town. I’d imagine the older folks or the really young families stayed in town after it was closed. I think the librarby dude would still run the library. Some Snowdin residents like the stone family or the dogs also might still live there.

Note
One day S/O found a stray kitten outside and took it in. They ended up keeping the kitten but then the kitten ends up being a mountain lion, it grows larger than a normal cat. How do the skellies react?
Undertale Sans - That's not a mountain lion, it's an anime cat. Undyne said it, not him, so no one can say anything because she is the head of the royal guard. Sans doesn't really care. It's an indoor cat, they're not doing anything wrong and they're comfy to nap on. Animal services can come, he can literally just teleport his kitty back home if he wants to. That's his baby.
Undertale Papyrus - When the neighbour asked if this is a mountain lion, Papyrus got offended. "ARE YOU BODY SHAMING MY FUR BABY? JUST BECAUSE HE IS BIGGER THAN YOUR DOG DOESN'T MEAN HE'S A MOUNTAIN LION. IT'S NOT MY FAULT YOUR DOG GETS JALOUS OF HOW CUTE MY CAT IS." Then he gives the neighbour a middle finger and runs inside, locking all the doors and windows in panic and screaming "OH FUCK WHAT DO I DO WHAT DO I DO WHAT DO I DO." in fear the neighbour calls the police.
Underswap Sans - "YOU WANT TO CALL THE POLICE ON ME? TOO BAD, THE POLICE SAYS THAT'S A HORSE CAT AND THAT HE CAN STAY. DON'T BE SO GREEN KAREN, YOU'LL FIND A CAT WHO LIKES YOU AND YOUR SMELLY LEMON SQUARES ONE DAY." And he continues on his walk, riding the mountain lion. Blue doesn't give a care in the world.
Underswap Papyrus - Unfortunately, Honey is allergic to cats, so he probably gave the kitten to Blue long ago, which would end like above. Honey is not really sure about the Mountain Lion, but his brother is having fun, so it's ok he guesses?
Underfell Sans and Papyrus - "ok, boss, now that's fucking enough, we have to talk. that's not a fucking cat, you can keep this inside." "DON'T TALK TO STORMBRINGER LIKE THAT." "boss, you did that with the bear too, that's becoming an addiction. you can have a bear, a cat and a mountain lion home, i swear to asgore!" "FUCK YOU, SANS. STORMBRINGER, HELLBRINGER, DOOMFANGER, ATTACK!" The mountain lion, the bear and the cat turns towards Red. Uh... Ok, he can keep it. He wins.
Horrortale Sans - "that's a farm cat. farm cat are bigger than normal cat." "Sir, you can't have that. This is a mountain lion." "touch my farm cat and i cut your head off." Oak is defending his cat in front of the police, and he's getting agressive about it. You don't hurt his family, and all his farm animals are family. He's this close to go fetch his axe so the man better leave quickly. He's growling too. Toriel and Willow better come quickly. He's not sure he can stop himself.
Horrortale Papyrus - He hid the mountain lion before the police came and showed them instead the cute kitten behind his farm. Clearly, the person who told on him got wrong. The police is not convinced but ok. They don't have the authorisation to search more anyway and Willow knows it. Take that, Karen.
Swapfell Sans - He doesn't even hide it. What's the police going to do anyway? All of the officers are scared of him, so no one would dare to say something. He's too cool to justify himself. Deal with it.
Swapfell Papyrus - He's protected by this brother's aura, so he doesn't care, he's walking the mountain lion outside just to show off in front of the neighbourhood's kids. He's the most popular guy around now and he asks for free nuggets to let the kids pet his cat. Business is business.
Fellswap Gold Sans - Well, chances are the mountain lion is gone already because Wine doesn't like pets, and as soon he saw it's growing up, he threw it outside. Sorry S/O.
Fellswap Gold Papyrus - No one knows since the cat leaves only in Coffee's room. He didn't tell Wine so Wine doesn't throw his cat outside. Sure, it's bigger than normal, but it's just a cat and it's his best friend, so what?

Text
Summary of all AUs i already talked about (with a tiny sinopsis) - Part 1
(from first to last)
Part 2 Part 3
Horrortale - An ongoing AU where frisk killed some monsters and left the Underground. Undyne became the queen and the monsters are hungry as hell. The creepiness is top-tier ✹
Echotale - A Frans AU where the underground is messed up. An older frisk and a Gaster!Sans are trying their best to fix things. This AU is finished and is incredibly cute.
UT Mob - Papyrus and Sans finds a child trapped in the box and adopt the new pet. Already said that they are part of a mob gang?. One of my favorite AUs
Understeam - a concept AU where instead of a war between monsters and humans, it was a war between machines and humans. Machines lost. I really love the concept.
Outertale- an extremely popular concept AU where the Monsterkind wasn't trapped on the underground, but on space. It's beautiful, so beautiful.
Underfell- Frisk and Flowey go on a adventure through the underground where everyone is really agressive.
Soulfell - Frisk and Flowey go through a dangerous and violent underground. The focus is mostly on the bone bros. This is my favorite Underfell AU.
Swapfell - A mix between Underswap and Underfell where capitalism rules. I absolutely love the concept💕
Zombietale- a human falls to underground and gets rescued by Toriel. But the problem is... The human is HUNGRY. The mix between the angst and the cute art style is so good !
Reapertale - in this Soriel AU, the monsters are all gods. Toriel is the God of life, while Papyrus and Sans are gods of death. Because of Sans mistake, Chara became a being full of hate who will hurt the whole realm of gods really bad.
Dusttale - Sans kept going on a geno route without stopping. He started to appear before intended, but he still wasn't strong enough to win the human. So he started to kill monsters to acquire exp. He went insane. One of my favorite Sans.
Caretaker of the ruins - Frisk falls to the underground and is taken care by the monsters. But our protagonist Chara is not happy at all and Frisk gets killed. Many times. Rooting for Chara to lose is extremely fun.
Killer!Sans - Sans kept getting killed on geno routes. He was getting tired. Chara gave him a proposal: how about killing monsters for a change of pace? Sans accepted it. I love this type of AUs, the angst is so good.
Inktale - Ink is a random abandoned sketch who refused to die. After some ink dipped on him he started to feel emotions and got the power of traveling through multiverses. One of my favorite sanses.
Undersail - Frisk is a swimmer who finds some monsters underwater. The concept is so funny and cute.
Dreamtale - an AU about the past of Nightmare and Dream. Brothers who are attracted to negative feelings and positive feelings respectively. They are always involved in stuff about multiverses.
Fantasytale - Frisk is a necromancer who revives a bunch of monsters and become their friends. There's really not much content :( so sad
Dancetale - everyone battles through dance. This is extremely underated and I will not stand for it!
UT storyshift - some stuff got shifted, like Papyrus being the caretaker of the ruins, Chara and Asriel being alive and a bloodthirsty king of the underground. It's a nice read and I can't wait for more !
Aftertale - after getting killed a bunch of times by the human, Sans somehow ends up on the menu of the game where he meets another Sans on the verge of dissapearing. The art style and the AU is SO GOOD
Errortale - an ask blog about Error, a sans who destroys AU anomalies or that just irritate him. He's a really dangerous and interesting fella. I love him
Underplayer- A player loved Undertale so much that she wanted to insert themselves into the game and become friends with everyone. But the task seems harder than it looks. One of my favorite AUs
Underphase - the kids are on a phase: Asriel is goth, Chara is a smartass and Frisk is an otaku. Kill me i love this.
Playbacktale - Papyrus tried to help Flowey get one of Asgore souls, but Flowey greediness fucked them up really hard
Core! Frisk - This frisk, is one who got extremely strong powers. They know all about multiverses and actively participate in some of them
Predatortale- in this horror Au everyone is hungry and trying to kill frisk hooray 💕
Underfell - Flowey and Frisk go on a dangerous and violent underground. This is the Underfell where Frisk advanced the most through the underground
Undernovela - its Undertale but it's a Spanish novela so there's a lot of plot twists and stuff like that. It got discontinued but it's really interesting. It's Error favorite "show"
Flavor text Chara - it's the same as Undertale, but the protagonist is Chara, who is narrating and discovering themselves with Frisk's journey. It's really cute.
Underkeep - Mettaton is the king of the underground and everyone is stylish as hell. it's more of a concept au than a comic one, but I also linked a fanfic about it that it's very good.
Sans the Seraphim - after dying to Frisk because of a geno route, Sans kills them immediately after they exit the ruins and takes all the souls. He opens the barrier, becomes a hottie and for some reason everyone is mad at him :/
Joseontale - it's a concept AU where the Korean author spilled all her love for her culture and traditional clothes on undertale
Undertone - in this AU everyone on the Underground fights with music. But when a human starts to kill every monster, it gets really hard for the timid and blind Sans
Underline - it's kinda like a headcanon for all the questions about Undertale. It's an incredible piece of work
Epictale - gaster is hottie who posses Frisk's body and start killing the underground to "protect" them. Gaster is a hottie, need i say more?
Dogs of future past - Frisk, flowey and one soul of the amalgamate decided to bring someone back after a post pacifist route: Gaster. So they travel back in time, but something goes wrong :D so so so so good.
Underworld - flowey messed with the resets too much, now the underworld became more savage and filled with bloodthirsty monsters. It's a nice angsty concept 💕
Cattale- A concept AU where the monster gang is cute cats and Frisk is their caretaker
Underlust Vanity and Violence - another take on Underlust (that I also talked about) where everyone is horny but the characters designs are incredible. Good kids don't read this
Underswap - the characters personalities are swapped and they are one of the most famous AUs
Fairytale - Frisk blue hiding hood gets lost in a magical and fantastical world
Mergetale - to save Frisk from getting attacked, daddy Sans dies. The grieve, love and determination make their souls resonate and they merge into one being. This concept is so interestings, I wish it had more content :(
Paper trail- this AU was made before chapter 2 so it's the author's own take on the future. It's really interesting and surprisingly it got a lot of stuff right !
Darker yet darker - it's a cute and angsty au about Sans and Papyrus being Gaster's experiments. And he is a bitch >:0
Archertale - everything is the same as Undertale but this concept au is based on archery :)
Hacker!frisk - when Frisk got the Underground they could only see one thing: codes. Everyone was a codes. So they did what anyone would do: they started to mess things up and have fun.
Jumbletale- it's another take on the shifting concept, this time some roles got shifted. Papyrus helps the human on their journey while Sans becomes terrified of humans because of Gaster's influence. It's an interesting take ✹
Drunk!Chara - After a post pacifist route, Chara became a drunk because of their guilt. But at leats their crush Frisk is there for them :) Really cute AU
Handplate- Gaster being a bitch and experimenting with Sans and Papyrus. It's really angsty and I love so freaking much
Alterverse - a multiverse where the ships: Soriel, Papyred, Asdyne, Muffeton and cattypants got their roles switched up. Asriel and gaster also did but their are not a Shipp :0
Underbrushed- a mix between Tangled and Undertale. it's crack and I love it.
Cafe frisk - A chef aspirant falls to the underground and starts a new cafe with Toriel's help :D
Underfresh - Fresh is a virus with no emotion created by us the readers. he knows it and is terrified. So he will do his weird personality thing to keep pleasing us.
Pillowtale - it's a concept au where everything is the same as Undertale but everyone is cute plushies 💕 i love it :3
Bromalgamate - The bone brothers became an amalgamate to save Papyrus from dying. They were happy as they were, but Alphys also helped them make a serum make a complete fusion, creating this way Comic!Papyrus💕 i love this AU
Burstale- when Chara was on her 100th geno run, she found an Allie to help on her selfish mission: Gaster. This AU is incredibly made and Chara is hottie :0
Inverted fate- my favorite AU from all times. The god of hyperdeath, Asriel, won the battle with Frisk and started to play with souls he acquired. But this fucks up the underground.
Name the Fallen - someone fell to the underground and it wasn't the human, it was Papyrus! Prepare yourself for a really angsty AU :D
Undertoad- a mix between Mario and Undertale. Is incredible and very cute I love it.
Chocoblook - when Frisk fell, two souls woke up: a human and a ghost who lost their memories. Frisk and Choco fighting is so hilarious lol
Asylumtale - this AU happens in an Asylum. Sans went crazy after his brother died and refused to accept it.
UT circus - the skeleton clown Papyrus finds a mute human. He brings them to the circus. Cute as hell
Frisk plus Chara- this is an AU where Chara, Asriel and Frisk are alive. How? Well, Chara and Frisk are soul sharing! The art style is adorable
Stand in - this is an Frans au that happens after a soulless pacifist route. After Chara is living with the monsters on the surface for 6 years, Frisk suddenly comes back! It's interesting and a little angsty
Omega ask blog - This is an ask blog for the omega flowey who got abandoned by their frisk. Is so lovely !
Timetale - Salphys is the shipp here mah fella. This AU is focused on Sans life. When he was a child, when he grew up and when he got out of the underground.
Littletale- Everyone is cute and smol but Gaster, Gerson and an alternate Flowey. *Dies of cuteness*
Zephyrtale - the monsters won the war and live on the surface with their dragon gaster blasters. AAA sooo cool !
Angeltale - everyone got wings and the monsters won the war! Frisk escapes the underground with the help of Muffet. But her plans are not so nice as we think
Buttontale - mix between Coraline and Underswap
Weabootale - it's an AU making fun of other aus and anime culture at the same time. This shit is INSANE and I love it.
Glitchtale- On a geno route, Chara is attacking Sans and Frisk wants to stop it. So Chara shuts them out of the fight. Before the final stab on Sans, a glitch happens.
Endertale - after a post pacifist route, frisk keeps getting Chara in their head telling them to reset and kill everyone. Sigh, you wish.
Insomnia- after a post pacifist route, Sans keeps having dreams about people he dont remember.... But will the sleepless night give him the answers he need? The art style is really good !
Undertop - is an AU where Frisk accidentally finds an Circus and meet the ringleader Gaster, who take cares of them.
Admixtale - is an AU where the characters are a mix between many multiverses :) really interesting!
Wondertale - it's a mix between Alice in the wonderland and Undertale. I enjoyed more than I expected !
Humantale - in this Frans AU everyone is human, so no monsters and no war. But not everything is easy. The art style is really nice
Underdarkness - after Papyrus and Frisk dies, Alphyes made some experiments with their souls. And now PAPYRUS IS EVIL HELL YEAH
Dreamtale - Frisk is in a coma and dreams about the underground where is easy to make friends and be loved. But is it right to live inside such a lie? This is a concept AU but I'm really craving for a comic or smth :/
Systematic restore - Frisk falls to the underground before they were supposed to. Asriel and Chara finds them and takes them to their mommy Toriel and king Asgore. Interesting concept!
Oceantale - Concept AU where Undertale happens underwater. This is extremely beautiful.
Overtale - the humans lost the war and got trapped on the underground. A monster kid gets out of the underground accidentally and goes on a journey with a lot of cute humans :D
Delta experiment- it's a mix between Deltarune and Undertale. Asriel and Frisk meet a strange and agressive child while there's a creepy new teacher. And this teacher can make us get involved on the AU :)
Cybertale - when monsters lost, they got locked in another dimension. Even if they are extremely advanced compared to humans, they missed their homeland.
Trainertale- It's Undertale but everyone is a Pokemon trainer! CUTE
Poketale -Its Undertale but everyone is pokemon! CUTE x2
Fellswap - it's a mix between Underswap and Underfell! In this AU, the royalty rules with a dictatorship 💕
A L I V E - an Alphys, Mettaton and an insane sans make a multiversal show to all AUs. One of the best I read recently, the characters are so interesting.
Underlust Reimagine - Another take on Underlust where Sans got it hard (hehe pun)
How to greet a new pal - is a comic where sans from Undertale ends up in the world of Underfell by accident. IT SO CUTE LOL
Gaster blaster sans - Sans was taken over by gaster blasters! It's an interesting concept hihihi
UT gangster AU - a mob au where the monsters live in the surface but there's a lot of racism. So the monsters are on a gang 💕 i love everything about this au
Paperjam - Is a character who got born after some ink from... Ink and blue lines from Error mixed together. I love the character, is so cool
Something is missing - When Frisk exists the ruins, they realize something is missing, but it's not something, is someone.
Refinedtale - a post pacifist route where everything is not really ok. This is the post with the most likes, so thanks.
Parasite!tale - Sans got his soul experimented on. But his fear of dying made him transform in something even he himself don't understand. GAAAH THREE WORDS: BUNNY FREAKING EARS💕💕💕
Slumbertale - the monsters got trapped in the realm of dreams instead of the underground and all their emotions and powers and tied to the humans emotions and souls. It's incredibly cute and the art style is top tier

Rating: T (for inherent neutral ending angst)
Summary: Toriel's old house feels like a mausoleum. She will gladly ignore chisp crumbs and lumpy mattresses for a place that feels more like home.  (Queen Toriel ending fic for Soriel Week 2021.)
Word Count: 5211
XXX
The bedroom was exactly how she left it. Her bed pushed up against the gray wall. A book about snails on the wooden desk. A knit sweater with the embroidered words "Mrs. Mom Lady" in the wardrobe.
Even after all this time, she could barely look at it without her soul splitting in two.
She'd known this wouldn't be easy. She hadn't seen this house in over a century. Still, she wasn't prepared for how Asgore had sealed up her old room like a tomb, a photograph of the day that everything went terribly, horribly wrong.
At least the last child was safe. They should not have had to take a life to save their own, but she doubted Asgore had given them a choice.  Her own soul felt more numb than anything.  To her, Asgore had died a century ago.
What was done, was done. And as usual, she was too late to do anything but sweep up the dust.
She backed through the doorframe, shutting the door with a quiet click. She would have to return eventually, but for now, she yearned for a place with fewer painful memories.
"Hey, Your Majesty." A voice startled her as she attempted to escape the foyer. Luckily it was a voice she would always recognize.
"Hello, old friend." She turned and smiled at the monster leaning against the stair railing.
He was smaller than she expected, with that deep voice. Not that that was a bad thing. As for him being a skeleton, that had been apparent from the abundance of bone puns.
"You know the formality is unnecessary," she told him softly.
"Is it?" He shuffled from foot to slippered foot.
In all her time of joking with him through the door, she had never expected him to be so cute.
"Didn't want to assume, old lady."
He winked, and she felt a weight lift from her chest. At least one monster would still treat her like a person, and not like a mythical figure returned to save them.
"Toriel," she introduced herself for the first time. He had to have heard already, but between rushing to the palace, scattering Asgore's dust, comforting their—her people
she hadn't had time to seek out her friend.
He seemed to feel comfortable walking right into her home, though. Did he ever visit Asgore when he was here? Her friend seemed like the type of monster who went wherever he felt like, and Asgore, for all his flaws, had never turned a monster away from his home.
"Sans." He held out a bony hand. "Sans the skeleton."
"Nice to meet you, Sans," she tested out the name and clasped his hand with her paw.
A loud pthbbbbbt echoed through the empty hall. Her eyes widened.
"Wow, Toriel. That's, uh, some way to make an introduction." He winked.
She squinted down at the inflatable object in his hand, the source of the farting noise. Then she pretended to ignore it.
"It certainly is. I was not aware that skeletons were capable of flatulence."
His eyelights gutted for a moment before he burst out laughing.
"Your jokes are even better in person," he said once he composed himself.
His laugh set her soul fluttering. In all their conversations through the door, he'd never laughed like that. Maybe she should have tried fart jokes sooner.
"I am always happy to tickle your funny bone." She smiled, and his face tinged blue.
"Happy to be tickled. But, uh. I guess that's not all I'm here for?"
Her breath caught in her lungs. Of course he would not visit without a reason.
"I suppose not. Would you like to have a seat?"
"It's nothing that serious," he assured her quickly. "I just thought you'd want an update on the kid."
"You've spoken with them? They are still here?"  She tried to keep the hysteria from her voice.
How could they have taken Asgore’s soul and not returned home?  Had the Barrier proven too powerful?
"No—geez, I'm making this sound worse." He ran a bony palm down his face. "They’re definitely gone.  Papyrus tried to call them nonstop.  Besides that, you know the big stuff. The king's dead."
Her lips drew to a thin line, pulling tight across her fangs.
"I can hardly fault them for that."
"Right." He stuck his hands back in his pockets. "I gotta be honest. The way the kid looked when I last saw them
I don't think they did it."
Her brow furrowed. She was inclined to hope that the child had not chosen violence.  They had been so sweet, so eager to talk and joke with the monsters of the Ruins, so quick to hug her even after she’d fought them.  It was hard to imagine them striking down Asgore.
"But
then what do you think happened?"
Sans shrugged. "Wish I knew. I kept watch best I could, but
"
"I could not expect you to come between them and your king." As much as she wished he could have. She had hardly expected him to agree to watch over the human at all.
“Couldn’t have even if I wanted to.  These bones aren’t as sturdy as they look.  Maybe I shoulda listened to my bro and drank more milk...” He grimaced and glanced away.  “Anyway.  Like I said, I don’t know what happened.  Just.  Be careful, okay?”
“Careful?” She blinked.
“Yeah.  You never know.” His gaze flickered to a potted golden flower on the end table next to the stairs.
“Sans.  If I did not know better, that would sound like a threat.” She crouched down, so she could better meet his eyesockets. “Is there something you are trying to tell me?”
“Man. First I rip one in front of a lady, then I threaten her.  I’m makin’ a great first impression.”  He rocked back and forth on his slippers. “Look. Toriel. I don’t wanna scare you, ‘specially since today must’ve been hard. Real hard.”
His eyelights bored into her irises. She found herself needing to look away.
“It has certainly been
interesting. Moreso than any day since I last saw this place.” She suppressed a shudder.
Change. Her life had been constant for so long.  There would be no more of that, now. Hopefully that would be for the better, but only time would tell.
“Yeah. Being flung away from everything you’re used to
don’t imagine that’s a cakewalk. Don’t want you to worry about freaks hiding in the shadows on top of that.”
Somehow, she felt he made more sense when he was on the other side of a door. Knock-knock jokes had a formula. Just another normalcy she had forfeited, she supposed.
“Please, Sans. If you believe I am in danger, you may say so.”
“Fine. So.” He grinned, and she couldn’t help a snort.
“Alright, I suppose I walked into that one.” She smiled, despite his warning. “Under normal circumstances, I would say I could handle myself. But I must admit you are more updated on the state of the kingdom than I.  Do you have any information that could help?”
“...Not really?” His grin turned sheepish.  “You look like a tough lady. I bet my bones are rattling over nothing.”
“I would still humer-us you.”
He gave her a funny look. “You’re actually taking me seriously?”
“Why would I not? You are my friend.  Perhaps
my only friend, at this point,” she admitted.  It would be foolish to ignore a warning, even if it was based on gut feeling. Or, whatever skeletons had in place of a gut.
“Well.  Uh.  If someone, something, was behind the king’s
yeah. If it wasn’t the kid, whoever else it was might still be around. So.” He coughed. “Sounds stupid when I say it like that, huh.”
“It does not.  I think it is sweet that you are worried.” He wouldn’t be able to see her blush, thankfully. It had been a long time since anyone had looked out for her.
“Geez, Toriel.” He rubbed the back of his skull. “You’re gonna ruin my reputation.”
“What reputation? Are you typically a monster with a heart of bone?” she teased.
“Nah. I just don’t worry. Too much work.”  It was difficult to tell if he was joking.  “Guess I can make an exception this once, though.”
“Why, thank you, my friend.”  She had the sudden urge to reach out and squeeze his hand.  It would be more for her own comfort than his, so she did not act on it. “To be honest, your words are a relief. I do not mind the excuse to avoid this place.”
“Oh.” He sounded surprised. “You got somewhere else you’d rather be?”
She both did, and did not. How could she explain without sounding like a clinging child?
...Perhaps that was the wrong metaphor. She would have preferred her children to be a little clingier.
“‘Cause, uh, if you don’t mind a bit of mess
 my door’s always open.”
She blinked at the offer. Had he felt the thoughts stirring in her soul?
She didn’t want to be alone. Not again. And she had told him the truth: there were unlikely to be any other monsters she knew still around. Perhaps Gerson; she and Asgore had always joked that he would outlive them.
That joke seemed awfully morbid now.
“Sorry. Was that too forward? Our friendship’s built off closed doors; guess we should just take 'em one at a—"
"No," she interjected too forcefully. “No. I would love to visit your home.”
Though she had never set foot there, she already suspected it would feel more like a home than this place.
“You really—? Great.” His skull tinged the faintest blue. “Just, uh, know that it’s nothing fancy.”
Toriel smiled. “‘Nothing fancy’ sounds wonderful at the moment.”
Perhaps wherever he lived would be out of the way enough that news of her return would be delayed. If she could be lucky enough to pass for an ordinary monster
well, that was likely too much to wish for. It certainly wasn’t becoming of a queen to hide from her subjects.
Stars, there was so much to get used to. So many formalities to reacquaint herself with.  She hoped such things would wait until tomorrow.
Sans returned her smile.
“In that case, I know a shortcut.”
XXX
She handled the shortcut well for a first-timer. No stumbling on the other end, no complaints of nausea or dizziness. Of course, she was a Queen. A Boss Monster. Why would a magic trick ruin her composure?
Sans wanted to laugh. All this time, he'd been joking with the Queen. She didn't seem to mind, but she could just be “humerus”ing him.
...Nah. She had every excuse to ignore him if she really wanted to. Instead she'd actually taken him up on his offer.
He almost forgot to drop her hand once their feet landed in the soft snow. Heh. Who was he kidding? It was just nice to feel her fur under his fingers. To touch her, and know that she was real.
"Oh!" Her eyes lit up, reflecting the gyftmas lights strung haphazardly around the house's columns. "I remember this place!"
"You do?" Sans's browbone furrowed.
"I saw it while travelling from the Ruins to
" she trailed off.  To stop the kid from fighting Asgore.
Sans felt stupid for not trying to stop them himself.  Not that a kid that determined would’ve listened, anyway.  Still
he’d believed in them.  Hoped that by some miracle, they’d get ‘em out of this mess.
Heh. That was too much pressure to put on a kid, even a determined one.
"Yeah." He coughed quietly. "Guess we're hard to miss. Papyrus did something to the Gyftmas lights—even when the CORE lights go out for the night, ours stay on. Never figured out how he pulled that off."
Toriel laughed before seeming to realize something.
"I will get to meet your brother!" She clasped her hands together. "I wish it had not come about for such an unhappy reason, but I am excited nonetheless."
He chuckled. Her excitement was contagious. That was something she and Papyrus had in common already.
He pushed the door open, called out for his brother—and noticed the monster sprawled out on his couch.
"Oh." Sans blinked at Undyne, who was snoring so loudly, he should've heard it from outside. Guess he'd been a little distracted. "Uh. This is awkward."
"What is it?" Toriel hung back, her head ducking through the doorframe. "Is your brother sleeping? I would not wish to wake him. You said he rarely sleeps, did you not?"
"Nah, it's not him. Forgot his pal's house burned down. Actually, I'm sure you met her. Undyne? Captain of the Royal Guard?"
"I
yes, we met." Toriel edged inside, closing the door behind her with a soft click. "She looks far more peaceful now than she did this morning. From what I understand, my ex-husband was something of a father to her."
"Something like that." Sans nodded in agreement. There hadn't even been a Royal Guard until Asgore created the position for her. Sans wondered if Toriel would keep it around now that Asgore was gone.
Welp. It wouldn't hurt, what with his suspicions about Papyrus's friend "Flowery."
(Maybe Sans should let Toriel sleep on the top floor rather than the couch anyway. No dirt for stray flowers to get into up there.)
"Should we be staring?" Toriel said with a soft chuckle.
Sans shook his thoughts away. "Sorry. Just thinking. I, uh
"
There wasn't room on the top floor. Sans's lumpy, crumb-dusted mattress was out of the question. That left only Papyrus's bed, which while rarely in use, had too much sentimental value to give to Toriel without asking. Where was Papyrus, anyway?
"Undyne!" His brother practically kicked in the door. "I have returned with nutritious—oh!"
Papyrus's sockets blinked at Toriel. Then at Sans. Then at Toriel again.
(Undyne let out another loud snore.)
"Sans?”  Papyrus dropped his groceries on the table next to the pet rock. “Why didn't you tell me we had another guest??"
Because he was an idiot who hadn't planned past one impulsive offer. His face went a little blue.
"I guest you would figure it out," he managed to joke.
Toriel let out a bleating laugh at that. The suddenness of it was enough to jolt Undyne awake.
"NGAHH!!" She tried to leap off the couch, but ended up rolling onto the floor. "I'm here, Asgore! I won't—oh."
Her single eye blinked up at Toriel.
"Papyrus?" Undyne hissed through her teeth. "Why didn't you tell me the Queen was coming??"
"Because I didn't know!" Papyrus replied brightly.
"I, uh, promise I'm usually more professional than this." Undyne summoned an energy spear and used it to push herself to her feet. The attack left a small char mark on the carpet. "I am at your service, Your Majesty."
Sans thought she looked real professional in a pair of Papyrus's MTT-brand crop top pajamas. Toriel didn't comment on that though, instead opting for a matronly smile.
"There is no need for that, Captain. I am not here on business, but as a friend."
That smile turned towards Sans, and he fought back a blush.
"Yeah. I was just gonna, uh, make some dinner. Y'know, welcome our queen back with some Snowdin hospitality."
"Dinner?" Papyrus squinted suspiciously. "You don't cook dinner. I cook dinner."
"First time for everything, right?" Sans winked to hide his embarrassment.
Of course Papyrus wouldn't buy his excuse. But he really didn't want his brother and Undyne worrying on top of Toriel. Granted, it was Undyne's job to worry about security threats
but she'd tear up the house's foundation if she thought an enemy might be hiding anywhere in a five-mile radius.
"Sans," Toriel chided him. "You do not owe me that."
"Wowie! You must be a great influence on him, Bald Asgore!"
Toriel blinked before bursting out laughing. Sans's grin widened.
"Her name is Toriel, bro."
"Of course!! Where are my manners?" Papyrus bustled past him to shake Toriel's paws. "I am the Great Papyrus! It's an honor to meet you, Queen Toriel!"
"The honor is mine. Sans has told me so much about you," she said, and Papyrus blushed pink.
"You? Know the new queen?" Undyne whispered to Sans while Papyrus and Toriel got acquainted.
"You know me. I know everyone." He winked.
"She came out of nowhere."
"Yeah. My bro and I know what that's like."
Undyne huffed, but Sans didn't offer a more thorough explanation.
Papyrus's affronted shout signalled that Toriel had dropped her first pun.
"I take it back! This is the worst day of my life!!"
Sans met Toriel's eyes, and they both laughed.
"I suppose I will have to help Sans in the kitchen as my pun-ishment," she said with a coy wink.
"Normally I would object to a guest cooking, but in this case I will make an exception!" Papyrus turned on his heel and grabbed Undyne's arm. "We will clean up the living room in the meantime! Try not to corrupt the queen any further, Sans!!"
"Wouldn't dream of it, bro."
He gave a quick wink to Toriel behind Papyrus's back, and they moved to the kitchen.
"Did I actually upset him
?" She asked once they were out of earshot.
"Nah. He's just dramatic like that. He'll drop three puns per sentence when he thinks I'm not listening."
He turned away, rummaging through the fridge for something edible they could cook.  Discreetly, he tucked his empty chisp bag behind Papyrus’s spaghetti-filled tupperware.
“Oh, good.  I would not want to make a bad first impression.”
“Pfft. You’d have to try real hard to do that, Tori.  My bro sees the best in everyone.”  He smiled and pulled a “pupperoni” pizza out of the freezer.  It wasn’t anything fancy, but at least it would be edible.
He turned around, pizza in hand, and found Toriel staring at him oddly.
“What?”  His sockets widened.  “Uh, you’re not vegetarian, are you?”
She shook her head quickly, her gaze skimming off of his like oil from water.
“Pizza sounds lovely.  It has been quite some time since I had one.”
Sans didn’t pry, but he couldn’t help wondering what her expression had meant.  Had he said something weird?
...Oh.  He’d called her Tori, hadn’t he?  He should know better than to use nicknames without asking.  Papyrus hated them.
“Please, allow me.”  She held out her paws, so she couldn’t be too upset.
He handed over the pizza, and he jumped when fire flared to life in her palms.  For a moment he thought the fire would scorch the pizza beyond recognition, but the flames were just pleasantly warm.  He’d never known a monster other than Grillby to have such careful control of fire magic.
“Heh.  I didn’t know you were so hot, Toriel.”
As soon as he said it, he clamped his jaw shut.  Geez, how stupid could he be?  Making bad jokes was one thing, but flirting with bad jokes?
The fire went out.  She looked up abruptly—er, looked away from the pizza.  He was still a good two feet shorter than her.
“Tori was fine,” she said, her voice soft.
“Uh,” he replied intelligently.
She suppressed a giggle, and he was pretty sure his face burned hotter than her fire had.  He could stand to take notes from Alphys and throw himself in the trash.
“Or not.  Whatever is comfortable for you,” she reassured him.  “Now, should we eat dinner before it gets cold?”
Eating was hardly something he could screw up at.
“Sure,” then after a pause, he tested, “Tori.”
Forget her fire magic.  Her smile could’ve heated the pizza all on its own.
XXX
For once in a hundred years, dinner was a warm and energetic affair.  In addition to the pizza, Papyrus had tossed together a salad from his fresh groceries, and Sans had briefly stepped out to grab a few orders of wings and fries.  In the end there was plenty of food for four hungry monsters.
Papyrus apologized for the lack of seating, but Toriel didn’t mind sitting on the couch squeezed between Sans and Undyne, eating off of paper plates.  She couldn’t imagine anywhere she would have felt more comfortable.
Before long, though, the day’s fatigue caught up with her.  She supposed it was to be expected—she wouldn’t regain her social stamina all at once.
Sans caught her eye, and he nodded towards the stairs as Undyne and Papyrus “owned” each other in an MTT-Brand fighting game.
“Sorry.  I know they can be a bit much.” Sans rubbed the back of his skull.
“They’re lovely.  I wish I had the energy to keep up with them.”  She smiled.
He leaned against the banister, smiling down at them.  Papyrus had gotten the upper hand this time, and was punching the air with joy.
“Me too,” Sans said, still looking away.  “I was thinking.  If you want a place to rest for the night, my bed’s open.”
She blinked.  Her face seemed to catch fire.  That was rather more
forward than she was expecting.  Sure, she had enjoyed his lighthearted flirting, and much as she tried to deny it, feelings had been growing in her for a long time.  But to have him return those feelings? And so boldly? It was as unfathomable as it was unlikely.
“I can get ya some fresh sheets, and I’ll crash in the shed.  My bro set up an, uh, guest room there when the human was in town.”
Oh.  She rubbed the heat from her face while he wasn’t looking.  How foolish could she be, to think he would be implying
? Well.
“I would not force you out of your room,” she said.  “If your brother prepared a guest room, I am sure that would be adequate.”
He let out a quick laugh.  “Uh, you’re not used to my brother’s
 decorating.  Seriously, I don’t mind.”
She sighed.  If he insisted, she supposed it would be rude to deny his hospitality.
“Alright.  Thank you very much, Sans.”
“Great.”  He smiled back at her, then went into his brother’s room.  She waited patiently, and only jumped a little when he suddenly reappeared from the right hand door.  Perhaps the two rooms were connected in the back by a bathroom.
“Hotel Sans, one vacancy.”  He winked while holding the door open.
She chuckled behind her hand.  “You really did not have to resort to this.”
“Heh, I wouldn’t call it much of a resort.  The bed’s not even queen sized.”  He rubbed the back of his skull.
The bed was smaller than she was used to, but it did have fresh sheets.  That was the only fresh thing about the room.  Chisp crumbs had been brushed under the dresser, and
that was a tornado.  A self-sustaining trash tornado.  Though at least there was a pine-scented air freshener suspended in it.
“Sorry, it’s
really not much.  Uh.  Probably kinda insulting, expecting the Queen to sleep—”
“It’s perfect.”
He blinked.  “Huh?”
“I am no stranger to a few crumbs, Sans.”
She remembered days that bled into weeks that bled into months.  Months where she couldn’t bring herself to clean, could hardly bring herself to care at all.  Months that had grown fewer and farther between since she’d met a friendly voice behind a door.
“I would’ve vacuumed,” he said sheepishly, “but I suck at it.”
More embarrassingly loud laughter burst from her.  In front of Sans, though, she didn’t feel the need to curtail her joy.
“Thank you.” She poured as much sincerity as she could into her voice.
“‘S no problem, Tori.”  A light blue tinge warmed his cheekbones.  How could he possibly look so adorable? “Bathroom’s down the hall if you wanna wash up or anything.  And Undyne’ll be on the couch, so this is probably the safest place in the Underground right now.”
Her brow furrowed.  Sure enough, there was no bathroom door inside the room—he must have used one of his “shortcuts” to move from his brother’s room to here.
“So, uh.  I’ll be in the shed—uh, guest room if you need me.”  He flashed one more tense grin before turning to leave.
“Wait.” She stepped towards him without thinking.
He looked up, one brow ridge raised.  She found herself biting her lip, wondering if she dared ask what her soul wanted.  It was silly, really.  She’d been on her own for years, decades.
Maybe that was why she was so hesitant to lose this one taste of companionship.
“I would feel
safer, if you would stay too.”  Her face burned beneath her fur, but she projected her usual composure.
“...Welp. Can’t say no to that, huh?”
She was about to reassure him that he could say no—that she was asking as his friend, not as his queen—but the soft smile on his face told her he already knew.
He briefly left to grab a few things, then returned with a few pillows and, for some reason, a dog bed.
“You are not going to sleep on that,” she said in disbelief.
He flopped the dog bed in the middle of the floor and started fluffing it.  “Why not?  Gotta throw a dog bed a bone, right?”
“Sans.”
The outdoor lights dimmed, as if at her command.  Only the colored Gyftmas lights outside and one dim indoor bulb lit the room.
Her confidence waned with the light.  What had she expected him to do?  She’d asked him to stay.  Unless she wanted to

Oh, to hell with it.  She was too old to be so shy about these things.
“If you are not opposed,” she swallowed, “we could
 share this mattress.”
When he looked up, she couldn’t make out his eyelights at all.  Their glow returned slowly, like the rising of the sun from her memories.
“Heh
you sure?  You don’t even know if I snore.”
She laughed and sat on the bed, patting the space beside her.  “You do not know if I snore, either.”
“Fair enough, Tori.”
They took turns cleaning up in the bathroom—she was imposing on Sans enough without adding the smell of dirty fur to his bed.  Then she did her best to ignore the flutterings in her soul as he slipped off his hoodie and climbed up onto the mattress.  She insisted he stay under the sheets; her fur would keep her warm enough with just the light blanket on top.
The sheets were a barrier in name only.  There was only so much space on the mattress, so no matter how he adjusted and apologized, she could still feel the curve of his spine against hers.
It felt amazing.  It felt terrifying.  It felt like a mistake.  It felt like the only thing she’d ever done right.
The one saving grace of the whole situation was that it didn’t stir memories of Asgore.  Her royal beds had been triple the size of Sans’s lumpy mattress. She and her ex-husband had rarely slept back to back, and if they had, the feeling would have much different.
“...Tori?” Sans’s voice was just above a whisper.  “You, uh, still awake?”
As if she could sleep while enduring the wonderful agony of friendly touch for the first time in a century.
“Yes,” she replied softly.  “Am I taking up too much space?”
“No, ‘course not. I was just, uh
 geez.” He sounded embarrassed.
Risking their precarious balance, she rolled over to face him.  Or to face the back of his skull, at least.
“Are you alright?” she asked.
“Doin’ sans-sational.” He chuckled to himself.  “Sorry.  Never got to use that one with you before.”
She would have laughed, had she not worried about shaking the whole mattress.
“It was sans-tastic,” she joked back, and he laughed again.
Then abruptly, his laughter cut off.
“Thanks, Tori,” he said in a quiet but firm voice.
“What for?” She wished she could take his hand, see his face, learn what thoughts were passing through his skull.  Instead she gave him as much space as physically possible
 which still was not much.
A long, silent moment passed.  Had he fallen asleep?
“I know it’s not how you wanted,” he finally said, “but I’m glad I got to meet you.  So.  Thanks.”
Warmth spread outward from her soul to fill her whole body.  Sans could probably feel it radiating from her.
“Thank you, Sans.  If I had to return, knowing no one
”
He rolled to face her.  His eyelights were mere inches from her pupils.
“You would’ve been fine.  All you had to do was tell a few of your amazing jokes, and the whole Underground would’ve been linin’ up to be your pals.”
She suppressed a laugh.  “I hardly think that would be appropriate, under the circumstances.”
“Eh.”  He shrugged.  “Plenty of monsters in town cope with jokes.  You’d just be relating to the common folk.”
She stared into his sockets a little too intently.  At this distance, it easily made her dizzy.
“Would you be included in that demographic?” she couldn’t help asking.
“When I first met you?  For sure.” His gaze darted away.  “But it’s crazy.  Between you and the kid
I’m startin’ to think there’s more to life than good food and bad laughs.”
“Really?”  She and the child had made such an impact on him?
“I know.  Don’t tell Papyrus.  He wouldn’t believe you, anyway.” He winked.
“My lips are sealed.” She smiled.
Silence hung between them.  It should have felt awkward, but she couldn’t bring herself to turn away.  In the end it was Sans who yawned in her face and then hurriedly flipped back onto his other side.
She laughed, and clearly she was exhausted too, because she pressed a kiss to the back of his skull without thinking.
He froze.  She froze.  There was no way to play that off gracefully.  And there was no way she could fall asleep and pretend that it had not happened.
“Heh
those didn’t feel very sealed to me,” he finally rasped out.
It took her a moment to process what he meant.  Meanwhile her embarrassment only burned hotter.
“I am so sorry—”
“I’m not.” When he rolled back to face her, his face was bright blue.  “You’ll still be here when I wake up, right?”
His question was tinged with desperation.
“Of course,” she answered automatically, despite the many responsibilities that she would have to attend to in the morning.  She was the Queen once more.  If she had to, she could adjust the schedule of meetings and speeches to accommodate
 this.
Whatever this was to be.
“Remind me in the morning,” he squeezed her hand, “that this is real.”
His hand quickly went limp.  She was worried for a moment, before she heard the faint snore escape his nasal cavity.
She gave him a fond smile, and allowed her own eyes to close.  She did not know if sleep would come or not.  She did not know what challenges the new day would bring, or what old challenges would continue to rear their heads.
But she did know that she was not alone.  For tonight, that was enough.

Part 2 of my Gyftmas
Event by @undertalesecretsanta
I'm doing it in parts cuz I can't post more than 10 images at once lol
Sans as Frisk's dad + Gaster Blaster as a pet
Sooo this is my headcanon:
Post pacifist route
Frisk is a smol kid
Sans is working with human scientists and he often comes back home late. Today is a special day cuz he's walking Frisk to the school himself. Needless to say, Frisk is over the moon.
Papyrus is always there to take care of Frisk and their playful pet, Gaster Blaster. But he is delighted to see his brother and Frisk together after a week of tough work. He also kinda missed his brother 👉👈
"....looking happy there kid, do ya like school that much?"
Frisk looks at Sans with a happy smile and grips his hand strongly. They nod.
Today is a happy day.
Tumblr media
Pls click on the image to see it with a better resolution
(I really got no ideia how to tie a gaster blaster up lol)
Bonus!
I actually had another ideia for the "Sans as Frisk's dad" but I didn't really go through it cuz I can't make puns.... Nor dad jokes. Lol.
But yeah, here it is
Tumblr media
Oh my god! You guys are right!
That's too much power!
Sorry! Ummm....
L-lets just erase this then....
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Any jokes that you would insert here? Cuz I got no ideia lol
Ink and Error interactions + One of the Star Sanses (I chose Blue) + Fresh messing with anyone
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
".... c'mon Error, just a little popcorn"
"Hands off."
Lmao I imagine that Error stole Underfell Sans popcorn just as he was about to eat it. C'mon let Ink eat a little >:/
I was actually going to do a bit more before the "WTF" scene. I was going to do Fresh infecting everyone in the show with his Freshness but I realized I don't really know how the parasite thing works and how it looks like lol. So i just cut it off.
Also, if it wasn't clear, the "show" they were watching was the AU Undernovela (it's error favorite "show")
Anything Temmie + Poketale
Tumblr media
I kinda wanted to do based on that pokemon meme where there's a print of a battle between a Charizard (i think) and a little pokemon bird.vtge bird looks back to the player with a face that says : "you little shit. What do you think I'm gonna do huh? tickle his feet?"
(but I'm not finding the meme :(
But I think Temmie is not the one who needs to be SCARED right now ...
( idk, for me, all Temmies are sus)
Tumblr media
So that's it!
I was really glad I received a lot of opcional prompts because Im used to do my drawings fast lol.
The one who gave me the prompts was @cali-the-temmie, and I just want you to know that I had a really fun time with all of this prompts, sorry if it got a bit too intense.
Hope you enjoyed this weird santa on your Christmas :)
The prompts that I didn't do were :
Epic and Cross interactions (with bruh's and Dude's included) - i didn't do it cuz I don't really know them enough to make their interactions
Sans joking about depression - i couldn't think about any funny pun. I ALREADY SAID IM NOT A PUNNY PERSON AAA
Anything Endertale- I couldn't think of anything interesting to do :/ ( EDIT: OH MY GOD I COULD TOTALLY HAVE DONE ENDERTALE FRISK AND SANS + SANS BEING FRISK'S DAD. BECAUSE THEY REALLY GIVE THAT VIBE AAAAAA STUPID ME)
Credits:
Ink- @comyet
Error and Fresh - @loverofpiggies
Blue - @p0pcornPr1nce
Poketale- @inkedaway

My hot take on this aka my fixations over the span of years...just consider (discussion under)
(I'm just gonna say in advance that i don't know every single character here 100% but i know enough that I CONSIDER them to be here, just throwing this here, so if anyone reads this, doesn't get weird vibes oktysmbye)
I know It would be better to put a lot more characters in each section, the problem is that i don't know the ones that would fit the middle...i haven't found the perfect mix of all these 3 things but i can tell the ones in the other sections as best as possible:
Demon Clowns: Shaco (League of Legends) fits perfectly, though they're not totally like that but I dig it, There's also Gamzee (Homestuck) which can fit this role (Kurloz is more of a skeleton clown but it's his suit so doesn't matter that much), Jevil (Deltarune) is also very cool and chaotic, Fizzarolli (Helluva Boss) is also very fucking amazing, well he's more of an animatronic too but that's a different part, he's still considered demon clown so i'll let it slide, Death 13 (JJBA Stand) also goes there, even if they're not really "real" they're still a manifestation of someone's soul. But hey, what about Buggy or Ceasar Clown (One Piece), well they're more human than demons... and since majority here are either demons or clowns with more or less other traits, i don't think human clown-demons fit very well here...so i guess that's it?
Demon Skeletons: The Lich (Adventure Time) seems like the most obvious choice here, he's just iconic and so cool, I love him, Elias Ainsworth (Ancient Magus Bride) also is here, he does have demonic powers and is a very wholesome boy that needs love but also powerful when it comes to fight or flight situations, Nowhere King (Centaurworld) was there for a brief moment, but just gave me the chills when they showed up, seems like a powerful creature which is bounded by something i assume (not sure what, we will see in further seasons), The Beast (Over the Garden Wall) is surely there, since I've seen what they're made of, definitely a demon skeleton, in a way, of course his body is kind of...yeah, but i guess that's the only way to fit them there, very mysterious creature, too bad we won't probably get to see them more :(. Emperor Belos (The Owl House) actually haven't seen this show yet, so maybe i'll add a post-watch note to this, I KNOW FOR A FACT that people really like this one, but i can't say much since i still need to find time to watch this. This concludes that mixup. Skeleton Clowns: Tricky (Madness Combat) does fit here, but also i've known that he's a demon too...well depends, i've heard he has like 5 different forms, so i wasn't sure where to put this guy, skeleton demon it is then, Sans (Undertale) NOW HEAR ME OUT ON THIS, He's clown, but at the SOUL, he makes punny jokes, he laugh every step, he even teases his own brother, he's not that clowny, but his CHARACTERISTICS are like that (unlike Tricky who's been a fucking nuisance) so Sans is also an obvious choice here, Brook (One Piece), similar situation here, he cracks some jokes, he constantly wants to see women's underwear (idk why did they add this to his character, but whatever) and also he has a very epic Afro hair, he's a nice funny dude, but puts up a fight too when the time comes, also get emotional so yeah. This one is the shorest list of characters of all of this, since i don't know many cool skeleton clowns (let it be clown at heart ot just literally a skeleton clown) So i'm sorry to disappoint...better luck next time.
So yeah, this was fun to make, I'm just left out with one thing...and that's THE MIDDLE PART - I have never ever saw anything/anyone that fits the middle one, not a single character was all of these and fit for me PERFECTLY, don't get me wrong, it probably exists, it's just that a) i've never seen it, b) probably wasn't very cool or c) it's so badly written that i despite it I KNOW some of these that i already written about probably fit all of these 3 things, but it's not perfectly fitting, they either have other traits (like fizz being animatronic or tricky having 500 other forms) or they don't really have much said about them, so it's lacking lore and characteristic that I would like, so that's not really my cup of tea in these cases.
thanks for coming to my ted talk about my fixations lmao awkward

@kamil-a I love heart guy!!!! that level of analysis is doing a LOT for me in terms of gameplay, ludonarrative, etc..
I think a lot of the ludonarrative issues I have are just because of my genre-savvyness and because it's not a finished game. I like susie a lot more now that I have a better understanding of her character and her role on the story. I would probably like ralsei more if I knew what the hell his damage was. However similarly, I like lancer a lot LESS now that i realize he's just a small bit role that really has no ability to come back. all of the darkner or whatever theyre called characters are just bit roles. and it feels... bad.
in undertale every battle was a puzzle to figure out how to appease these people and you felt like you learned something about them. largely, that's still the case because the battles are still puzzles but because i know everything is just there to impede my progress and can often actually be avoided by the nature of stuff being dodgeable in the open world, they feel even more like a waste of my time and energy. A big place where that is no longer what's up is in boss battles. In undertale, unless you couldn't figure out what the intended way to escape the battle was, the battle would consist of the boss giving you their whole story and then... it's done, you win. not so in deltarune! there you're stuck doing whatever until the mercy ticker wears down and the boss just gives stock dialogue for the majority of the time. Maybe for people super proficient at the game this isn't such an issue, but whatever secret stuff that undertale had that made me love the bullet hell mechanic got changed here and i can't play it for shit.
continuing on the topic of enemies, there's now the recruitment system that you have to get a whole annoying tutorial for at the beginning of chapter 2 (maybe it was in ch1 but i dont remember. that was a long time ago now. more on that later lol). just in case i wasn't already disinterested enough in all the enemies, i'm even less interested now because they've been flattened down into little tokens. this is possibly the point, as all of it is meant to be a discussion about game mechanics as we know them. regardless, it doesn't feel like i'm having fun to try and go around to collect them.
onto the gameplay mechanics themselves! in honesty, part of the issue may be that i'm trying to play it like undertale rather than play with the mechanics i'm given, but its also hard as hell to play with the mechanics im given because all i want is to get out of the battles as soon as fucking possible. while they've improved a ton from the last game because characters other than kris can ACT, it still remains the case that the system is way too bloated and overcomplicated to function naturally. I theorize this is also. The Point. turn-based RPGs are often ridiculously bloated like this. the difference there is that in say, your typical final fantasy, all you're trying to do is Attack and you're trying to do it the best possible with the resources at hand. Your strategy is to choose between a regular hit, whether you can perhaps summon something, or if its better to spend your MP on smaller but still powerful spells, or even healing. seeing as im not killing anything when i play these games, all i'm trying to do here is spare the enemy and there's kinda only one way to do that because the ACT menu kinda only gives you one option anyways. the objective is less a puzzle a lot of the time and more to just survive the somehow way harder bullet hell sections. its very fucking flat.
the worst part of it, in my opinion, is that this all comes after years of not playing the last part of the game. maybe a lot of these things wouldn't be quite so bad if i was playing the whole thing at once in sequence. that would be a ridiculously long, boring time though because 80% of these games are just fluff without substance (at least undertale's fluff consistently gave you lore tidbits or character stuff. here all you get is the queen--whom i love--saying a joke about potassium). this game should not be coming to us in 7 parts. or at the very minimum, they should not be as long as they are to play through! i think the delivery time on the story is actively hurting it, and I think it's only going to get worse as this slowly slides along at a snails pace.
but! who knows. a whole lot of people like all of this a whole lot more than me. maybe I just don't like playing it because I don't like any of the characters. I like them all a lot more now that we're focusing more on the original folks than the old undertale rewrites, but even then I mostly just like them for the way people make jokes about them.
in short... i find the mechanics ill-fitted to their purpose and the handling of the game clumsy. I can fully believe that a lot of this is toby's actual intention as he's making a criticism of this kind of stuff, but I think it's also very easy to fall into the very problems that you criticize. I think there's a chance it might get better, but I think it's a whole lot more likely that all of it gets worse with time. because 7 6+ hour long games... are gonna take a long ass time to make.
to anyone who actually read this far, i salute you! and i hope this made any sense because i've kinda just been rambling on half-sleep because i woke up at 3 am
