what is your favorite Helluva Boss episode?

If we're talking season 1; I'd have to go with 'Harvest Moon Festival' or 'Queen Bee'.

Harvest Moon Festival because ✨small town representation✨ (though Blitzo called us hillbillies so some points docked from him lmao). Plus the pacing was really nice; felt like we got a lot done.

'Queen Bee' was another favorite of mine because the aesthetic and feeling throughout most of the episode felt both comfortable and airy, in the sense that everything felt kinda free/light yk?

Season Two, on the other hand, would probably make me choose 'Exes and Oohs' or 'Apology Tour'

Exes and Oohs had a very atmospheric setting throughout the whole episode, like there was an extra layer (as in just a green overlay lmao).

Apology Tour had a lot to it and was very well-done, even though it felt quite slow.

Though if I had to choose just one? Likely Queen Bee, not gonna like.

Keith David recently complimented the hb cast saying when he’s with them he’s in the presence of something beautiful. I think that’s really sweet, because yes, the vast majority of the cast of HB seem like very kind and passionate people. I’m really glad Keith is having a good time, and tbqh I’ve never really had an issue with the cast.

But weirdly there are already people saying shit like “you just KNOW the Hazbin haters are mad lol” and that Keith said Hazbin was his favorite role—

FIRST—It’s really weird that they assume people who don’t like Hazbin think Keith needs to be “saved” or some shit? Keith David is a grown ass man who can make his own decisions. He’s a very very talented individual, who has been in TONS of movies and shows, and has done a lot of really amazing voice work. He’s the best performer on HH imo, and while I don’t like Hazbin Hotel personally, I find it downright bizarre that Stans would assume that we’re like…mad at him or don’t think he can make his own choices??

SECOND—the clip that was circulating did not show him saying Hazbin is his favorite role, he said he’s in the presence of something beautiful with the other cast mates and crew while working on the show (which tbh, I agree with—I really love a lot of the actors/actresses on the show, and I think, all things considered, they did a good job with what they were given. I’m of the opinion that the voice director did a pretty bad job, as a lot of the seasoned VAs on the show sounded kinda off, but I digress)

And hey, if he DID say that on a separate post or clip like. That’s okay??? He’s allowed to like the role??? If it’s his favorite role that’s great!!! That doesn’t automatically mean that everyone who’s ever criticized or disliked Hazbin is wrong in their opinion.

There’s like. This weird insistence I’ve seen in Hazbin Stan spaces where they point to the professionals who have worked with Spindlehorse or started in Viv’s shows and are like “SEE??? THIS REALLY TALENTED PERSON WAS ON THE SHOW!!! SO IT MUST BE GOOD!!!!”

And I mean. That’s still all subjective. I’m so sorry, but it is!! Idk how to tell yall this but great actors and artists have been in some really really bad movies. It’s not really an indicator of if something is SURE to be well written or made. Again, all subjective, but like. Idk Keith David is very very much allowed to think Hazbin is the greatest story of all time and his favorite role ever, and I’m very much allowed to disagree with him on that, but still enjoy his body of work.

My favorite performance of his will always be Childs from John Carpenter’s “The Thing”, but that’s just, like, my opinion, man!!! Who cares!!! Maybe Keith hated that role! That would make me a little concerned, because I’d be worried that he was treated badly or was struggling during the filming, but if it turned out he just didn’t think it was a good movie? That’s okay!!!! Him not liking his part in it wouldn’t take away what I like about it.

Just had to vent that. I really really hate when fans or critics bombard actors from shows in any way, either by being overly familiar in a really parasocial way, or by acting like they’re “owed” something from them.

Either way, love Keith, not a fan of Hazbin personally, and that’s an incredibly normal cold take to have that for whatever reason some people apparently cannot fathom. It’s kind of sad to me that people will see an actor compliment a show they like and immediately go “PEOPLE WHO DONT LIKE THIS SHOW MUST BE SO MAD RIGHT NOW HA!!” Instead of being like “aww yay, I’m so glad the actor enjoys the character”

(In the same way, I really loved Adam Sandler in Hotel Transylvania and Fifty First Dates. Doesn’t mean I have to love every single “grown ups” film, or defend “Jack and Jill” as high art cinema. I don’t understand why people don’t get this Chai. Anyway! Have a great night!!)

10. Cltr+f "blinks" on your WIP & copy paste the first sentence/paragraph that comes up Ed blinks and rapidly scrolls up and down the page. That can’t be it. A studio doesn’t just fucking cancel someone that successful. Ed had reviewed all the film grosses, both domestic and international; the numbers were there. And Ed saw the way the man danced; Stede was a phenomenon on his feet. And HB Low just let him fucking get away? Were they absolutely insane?

14. how do you write emotional scenes? Do you ever feel what the characters feel? Do you draw from personal experiences? I rely a lot on music to get me in the right headspace. My go-to song, because I feel it gets into ALL the big Ed/Stede emotions for nearly every situation, is The Story. I will literally listen to every version I have on it on loop for however long it takes while thinking about whatever situation the characters are in and then go. I do sometimes draw from personal experience, but alas, I haven't had a Great Big Love like Ed and Stede, so when it calls for that, it's mostly just the power of imagination.

2 Fluff 2 Furrious by @monksofthescrew: the sequel to the PHENOMENAL Fluff. Summary: In which Ed and Stede and their (!) ten (!!) dogs take an unhinged and perhaps ill-advised roadtrip in a dog bus. It's cute. It's emotional. It's Ed and Stede stupidly in love with SO MANY CUTE DOGS. And it's an absolutely impeccable Ed voice. WIP, just one chapter for now, but I've read the next and it's SO GOOD.

Moment of Truth by @trans-top-stede and karawrites: It's the most gloriously frustrating time loop; set during 2x06, Ed and Stede can't come until they learn how to fucking TALK TO EACH OTHER!!!!! I'm a few chapters behind and I am very excited to catch up this weekend, but oh my god, the EMOTIONS and the SEX it's all so good.

The Incident at Direfold Manor by @helloimjennsco: GOOD SPOOKY HORROR. It's the kind of uncomfortable feeling, something lurking in the shadows watching you vibe and it's SO UNSETTLING I LOVE IT AND AM SO CURIOUS TO SEE WHERE IT GOES. Still a WIP, and this is one I'm REALLY glad to be reading as it posts because the twisty turnies are so tasty.

The Tolling Bells by @edsbacktattoo: Recently completed, absolutely gorgeous fic with a unique premise that feels all the more poignant after the cancellation. I just keep thinking about how there is NO POSSIBLE UNIVERSE THAT EXISTS, real or fictional, where Ed and Stede DON'T find each other and fall in love, and how lucky we are to get to witness that. Good shit.

I Spit on Your Grave by @epersonae: A complete one shot! I have accepted this fic as canon now. The conversation Ed and Stede have is one I was really craving in S2, and this version of it scratches that itch perfectly. And because it's epersonae, you know it's some really beautiful, emotional, evocative writing.

Welp looks like the next HB episode is gonna be the return of Striker, meaning more Stolas melodrama, probably. I'm curious to hear how the writers might mess Striker's character up.

I legit thought the Barbie episode or something was next but these writers really can’t go 2 episodes without jumping right back into Stolas family drama and Stolas/Blitz centric episodes, this is the shit that bothers me because fans wonder why we complain about the other characters not getting proper focus or development because Stolas and Blitz hog the show every other episode or even straight in a row. Seriously it’s like-

Like…ugh sorry for ranting I’m just so done with that, especially since every episode also introduces new characters while the undeveloped ones still barley have anything. Anyway yeah not ready for more unfunny Stolitz jokes and pandering to how horny he is for this imp, we’ll probably be introduced to Andrealphus’s boring ass cause yeah introduce ANOTHER fucking antagonist Viv, as well and more Stella being one dimensional and no one acknowledging Octavia at all expect for her dad who loves her oh so much. Can’t wait to see Stolas be a bumbling twink and/or depressive when he’s around Blitz and be treated like a helpless damsel. It seems like that rope or whatever Stiker is holding is magic but it just feels like another plot device so Stolas can be helpless, and his Uwu Blitzy can save the day. Oh, and more dragged out fight scenes that probably aren’t going to go anywhere yay-

Just some random thoughts while I fuck around with Lulu’s game~~~

I restarted their game, mainly because I’m a bit clueless what scar would work best for them. It was hunger last time, but it didn’t really fit. :/!

Like with Vendetta, sui/outside was what just happened but it worked out that it was the one that fucked against nir natural personality the most. At nir core, Vendetta does like people and deeply desires to be part of the outside world, to be apart of something. Friendless isn’t strong enough. Disconnecting Vendetta from feeling like ne belongs in the world is basically nir version of Hell, especially given ne has memories of belonging! Ne remembers! Ne did it once before, and ne wants to again. Ne just ...can’t anymore.

On the flipside, Dante having the Puppetmaster plays into his worst impulses of isolation and need for control. It compliments him much better, but that’s because Dante doesn’t mind isolation and absolutely craves control, especially post-Heartbreak. Control is safe, isolation is safe. He wants to be hands-free god, lining up his chess pieces in such a way that he’s always safe and always out of the harm’s way. In the back of Dante’s head, he’s constantly just ‘coward, coward, coward~~~~ I’m a coward~~~’. But that’s okay because he’ll be safe once and for all once he finishes setting up his chess board.

Lulu doesn’t really have an option that sticks out instantly as one that plays with or against their natural impulses, at least not like Ven and Dante’s do. I am trying out revenge because on the surface, I think that’ll work best for Lulu and I really enjoyed the lead-up to getting revenge? Like Lulu just gives into Heartbreak and seeing the experiment from HB’s experiences is heart-breaking for them.

I also do love them getting snuck into a loop of sorts. That it isn’t just for them, but Heartbreak too. They both deserved better. It does fit into Lulu’s need for justice. I don’t think Lulu would care to be friendless or hungers for much, but forgoing their better judgments to help a stranger? Absolutely. It’s why Lulu loved being Sidestep. And revenge is worth destroying that legacy for.

I’m trying out anarchist because god, someone needs to break the system and Vendetta said ‘no thanks, I want heists! ✨’. Thanks, Ven! :')! Hero Hunter (kill) was a lot of fun buuuuuut Hero Hunter (prepare) is Dante to a tee. So, we’ll see! So far, it does fit Lulu a far bit too and they can still do a fair bit of murder in it, if my memories serve me correctly.

I got higher stats with Ortega this round and this feels better for them. They always had a weird sibling vibe in my head. It’s where their nickname came from. Their actual name is Luciola/Luciole, and Lulu felt like such a silly little sibling type nickname to me that it's just Lulu now. ^^;;

Last time, they ended up with ghost status which was interesting and cooooould work, but it feels more a bit honest? Lulu isn’t as self-isolating as Ven, so while they could absolutely stay away with ease, I think staying as simple friends feels apt.

Also. Villain!Lulu has everyone like terrified (yay for scary armor, boo my internal monologue saying Lulu wouldn't actually pick it now) and I always picture sus!Ortega being like ‘but it’s Lulu?? They sobbed for thirty minutes because Wei killed a spider once and didn’t talk to him for five whole months after. Lulu can’t be scary. It’s Lulu.’

And Lulu is over here, murdering corrupt officials and heroes because Revenge Is A Lovely Feeling. :)!

Oh yay, the Pack trip is over ! I hope they all had such a fun time, I know they definitely needed it. I TOTALLY understand the smell difference after you’ve been gone from somewhere so long, or going somewhere new. I thought it was just me !! That was a great TEDTalk, Milo !

How strong, or wound up at the very least, is Sweetheart if he has to work that hard to get the knots out !!! They definitely need this !

He said that they make his heart sing :') and what if i cry about that. ANOTHER Boy to add to the “Home” metaphor list !!!! I will continue to eat it up EVERY time !! These two are the definition of “forever” honestly.

Some people really need to understand the difference between BAD WRITING and DECISIONS I DON'T LIKE -

For example, if BNHA kills off All might, it's a decision i will not like (at all) and make the manga drop from my top 5 to top 10. I hate the trope of the mentor being killed off, i like the trope of challenging fate and destiny and i like when there's a prophecy and the prophecy ends up being slightly wrong or still right but in a way that is different (foe example all might "dies" not the man but the hero/peace symbol) BUT is it bad writing if the author still does that ?

NOPE. It fits the themes the author put in his manga, it helps build tension / suspense during the last arc of his story, it gves the hero a despair pushes the feel of doing everything he could to save the ones he loves and still failing. It's a decision that has been prepared and built up for several tomes now. It is GOOD WRITING.

Another example, i really don't like JGY's fate at the end of MDZS, yet it fits the core themes of the novel, it gives a parallel with the hero's fate and makes a narrative loop with the first line "Yay WWX is dead!!"

It gives a pessimistic view of the world, of the mod of the actual power of changing the world either via rebellion (WWX) or via override (JGY) and it suggests as long as the world has made its decision about you, there's little to nothing you can do about it.

Do i like this idea? No. It makes me sad and pessimistic. Is it bad writing. HELL NO. This is brilliant writing and while i would rather have the bastard son who had nothing stay on top of the world...This is not the kind of story MTXT wanted to tell. She is not giving us a successful storyline, selling us the american's dream. She also decided to not go the road of children repeat parent's mistake and goes into that parallel and loop, with LXC saving JGY the same way his father "saved" his mother. It's a decision the author made and that's FINE.

BAD writing would be making that decision without OWNING the themes that goes along with it, without exploring it and making that vicious circle/loop/parallel in the narrative. Bad writing would be take this decision without direction and ending it up that way for free/shock drama only. IT IS NOT BAD WRITING EVEN IF YOU DOn'T LIKE IT.

But that's okay that's what FANFICs are for. You don't like the decision / the direction the story went? go find people who think the same on the internet and wrote the end of the story they wanted to see, or better write it yourself; That way maybe you'll see what writing is like and change your mind (or not).

Anyways just a post about me raging because i saw someone say HB is badly written when the show has kept all the promises / tone and same pacing as his first pilote episode and i'm pissed by such blatant and ignorant statement.

2/2 - I am still confused about Blitz and Fizz's relationship? Are they siblings? Foster-siblings? Adopted siblings? Friends? Ex-coworkers? - Because it's really creepy that Blitz said to Fizz "I wanna make out' or some variation of it to someone who he grew up with and considered close like a sibling? (Another incest joke yay j/) - Because of the lack of Millie and Moxxie in this episode I have a suspicion that the next episode with the Ghost is going to touch on the whole 'Millie is going to be coerced into s*icide' thing to give them some edge, because lord knows Viv can't write good character relationships without putting the threat of death there, there's a million different ways to show and tell that a character has something to lose, Viv does not understand that because she has the mentality of a 15 year old who still - at her big age - still see's her OC's as an AMV to a Nightcore version of Angel with a Shotgun - What the fuck was the 'Burger time' thing? That came from nowhere and added nothing Here's a little tip if Viv is reading this - If in your story, there is a shotgun mentioned in the first few lines of dialogue, by the end of the episode you better fire it - That is how you set up a follow-through on story ideas, planning and using plot elements, not the scrambled mess of 'Oh! I'll add it later when I eventually remember it exists!' that she's been pulling off, otherwise, people will not be able to follow up on your 'lore' because it's all over the place. Viv has clear penis envy and it really fucking shows the more you watch it and her obsession with dicks, because if it was about sex as a whole why are there no boobs, clit or vaginas being shown anywhere or mentioned? Would also explain her despisal of trans men, since the wires would cross in her brain that says 'Male looking but with no penis, that makes me extra angy'. I want a psychologist to watch through HB and be able to fully explain in depth what her issue with it all is. Freud would have a field day with her.

I never got the sense that Blitzo and Fizz are siblings, or even adopted siblings, just kids who grew up in the same place and were friends. A little more exposition on Fizz's background would have been nice.

But this sentence...god, I want it to be the official Vivzie/Helluva critical slogan, because it sums up Vivzie's flaws as a writer better than just about anything else could.

If in your story, there is a shotgun mentioned in the first few lines of dialogue, by the end of the episode you better fire it.

Soooo to start things off, lets get to the Positives!

*-M&M get to stand out more in the main A-story for a change, yay! 👏👏And even including a bit of drama for the couple to deal with as they started to clash over their roles in this "mystery"-solving; especially with Millie revealing to carry some insecurities over not feeling "appreciated" outside of a supportive role/killing-machine… poor girl :c Glad to see she was able to have her moment to shine on stage by the end while Moxxie "took care" of their suspect, the gal deserved that time to just let loose on her own, yknow? 🥺

*-The summer camp aesthetic was a fun change of scenery for the story here, and I liked the designs for characters like the blue demon client at the start, alongside Millie & Moxxie's human disguises ("Moxxine" & "Millard"), they were cute~ :3

*-While Blitz didn't play too big of a role here in the long run, his gentle coaxing to his sister Barbie Wire at the end to try and amend things was rather touching to see (not really seeming to mind her pronouncing the "O" in his name either, unlike with other characters)… even if ultimately tragic given her rejection at the end :(. I really hope we get more insight of their family background later, 'cause there's alot of story potential for Blitz to try and face the "shadows" of his past (outside of just general exes-drama), in a meaningful character building way imo 👍

*-Not quiiiite as strong on the humor aspect (which I'll get into in a sec-), but I'll admit there's still some good chuckle-worthy moments like the "kid-stuck-in-a-crater" gag, along with this one still-shot during the Blitz & Moxxie VS Barbie fight lol

*-Nice to see a return of those Asmodean crystals, ever since their cameo in "The Circus" I've always been curious to see them in-action given their role as another portal-making item :o the crystalline-looking portals made from them look so pretty too~

As far as the Negatives of this ep are concerned? …Ehhhh-

*-As much as I enjoyed the M&M spotlight… I'd be lying if I said I didn't find the execution a bit… "clunky" at certain points ^^; Mainly on Moxxie's end 'cause… oof did he feel rather cringey at times, getting randomly hung up about some camp kids not liking him over Millie? :| Like… okay sure, its one thing to criticize her not prioritizing the "investigation" mystery as seriously as she should've… but I mean, you're basically doing the same thing trying to win over everyone as this ditzy teen girl, Moxx so like… who are you to talk? :/ Thankfully he got over that by the end and made things right by his wife but still… smh, dude >>

*-For a character as hyped up as Barbie Wire's been by the fandom since the pilot… I'm surprised that her first-ever reveal is only in the last few minutes of a B-plot? .-. Like… this is the long-lost sister of our main character, mind you, and her presence alone through that one photo in "Ozzie's" was enough to shake up Blitz to the core… so, why wasn't she given more of a major story to come back into her brother's life? 🤷‍♀️ I don't even mind that she's not interested in making amends with him atm (esp. with his stalkerish behavior here I can't really blame her tbh, as much as I love the guy- ^^;), but still…more additional context in-general could've helped make her debut a lil more interesting imo (same with Stella's brother Andrealphus).

*-Humor wise… ehhhhh yeah, some of it didn't really sit right with me tbh :/ Like, okay I get HB's always been a rather "raunchy" show since its inception, and I'm all for some clever adult humor when done right…

…But I mean, did we really need bits like M&M pretending to be "siblings" while disguised (when… idk why they couldn't have just pretended to be a regular teen couple tbh? .-.), only to then having that big "steamy" moment in front of a crowd of campers…? :| Idk, humor IS subjective at the end of the day so, I guess your mileage may vary on some of these joke executions… 🤷‍♀️

*-Pacing felt a bit imbalanced (again), with moments like the big ending fight scene feeling rather… "stiff", in some parts? : o Idk, probably could've benefitted from adding in a few more minutes or something to make it flow a lil better .3.

*-Fun as it was seeing Millie getting her own song for a change (that's not just another love duet with Moxxie)… idk, it admittedly wasn't the most memorable compared to some previous HB songs (minus the lil lyrics popping underneath like a cheesy music video, that was funny lol) 🤷‍♀️That and Moxxie's own "solo" attempt at the campfire scene was… again, cringey (though I think that was the point lol) :P.
