✨- How did you come up with the OC’s name?

Kennedy was originally designed by @psygull and given to me as a gift!!

He was The Jersey Devil reimagined as a high School athlete so I named him Kennedy (jock name) Leeds (name of the family from Jersey Devil folklore)

🌼 - How old are they? (Or approximate age range)

He meets Bambi (aka enters the story) at 18

🌺- Do they have any love interest(s)?

He's got a small crush on Jak L., but is trying to find the right way to ask her out. He's seemingly oblivious to her flirtations with Bambi

🍕 - What is their favorite food?

Growing up with 12 other siblings kinda turned mealtime into a Battle Royale, so he'd visit the local food market in the evenings after school. His favorite dish comes from Ms. Hayes' stand; a bowl of fried rice topped with grilled catfish and garnished with Devil's Fruit (a sweet red fruit with two stems that look like little devil horns. Needs to be De-Hexed before eaten, otherwise it'll taste bitter & you could end up w/ a magical foodbourne illness)

💼 - What do they do for a living?

Was a student until very recently - helps Bambi on fetch quests for The Lich Doctor in exchange for magical items to resell on the side.

Also runs a pest contol hustle but strangely only books appointments for the 13th of every month.

🎹 - Do they have any hobbies?

Meditation! He got into it hoping it would better help him retain control when in his Devil Form; he's able to stay conscious and aware for a full 30 seconds now!

🎯 -What do they do best?

His first and only answer would be Hockey; he's ingrained it so deeply into his identity he's not sure who he'd be without it. In reality, he's a natural leader when thrust into stressful situations (which happens a lot!)

🥊 -What do they love to do? What do they hate to do?

Kennedy loves opportunities to show off his strength; be it knocking through walls or deadlifting a horse, he can't help but feel a sense of pride from the admiration. It's one of the few positives his curse affords him

He has a zero tolerance policy for anyone who threatens his family, Found or Biological! (Minus his dad though, he hates that guy)

❤️ - What is one of your OC’s best memories?

His first time ice skating! When he was about 13 or so, the lake froze over and he was dared by Siblings 10, 9, & 7 to go skating across the thinnest part. Not one to shy away from a challenge, Kennedy went for it - just narrowly avoiding falling into the freezing water. He did still trip and chip a tooth on the ice, but the thrill and joy of skating never left him.

✂️ - What is one of your OC’s worst memories?

Coming home from school one day to find his mother bed ridden with blisters blooming into flower shaped scabs all across her body; Hexed by unclean food. The potion that could cure her required 'The Blood of the Beloved', but when Kennedy volunteered she told him point blank; "I don't love you enough for that to work."

He quit school to hunt down his dad shortly after.

🧊 - Is their current design the first one?

Yes & No -> his current design is technically my take on Psygull's original one, but the major beats are still there; slightly shaved head, letterman jacket, cocky grin, etc

I keep changing his Devil Form but I think I'll end up just keeping it the way she originally had it (maybe w/ a few more goat features)

🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?

I don't know! He was a gift 😌🎁

Whatever genre combines a Disney Channel Sports Movie with a Brother's Grimm fairy tale

🍎 - What is the OC’s relationship w/their parents like?

Tentative.

He tries to do right by his mother, but he can sense she kind of blames him for his dad skipping town. There's a certain bitterness she has for him that he can never seem to alleviate. He feels like nothing he does will ever make her proud.

He resents his father with his entire being. He passed down The Devil Curse onto him and instead of sticking around to help him learn how to deal with it, he left as soon as he was born. Kennedy doesn't understand what was so wrong with him that his dad couldn't be bothered to stay.

🧠 - What do you like most about the OC?

The family dynamics & his own Big Brother persona he adopts when w/ Bambi & co.

He pretends to be a bastard but he's got such an obvious soft spot for the people he cares about it never really sticks - it's a really fun trait to play with

On and off, but a little more so recently bc I gotta update his ref sheet

Manon: Because, dear Rachel, Mr. Orbin Les, as a child, brought home every animal in need he found on the streets. From dogs, to cats, to birds and even a rattlesnake once, he found them and they found him, and then, because his family home already was overcrowded with the four sisters this gentleman has, and an aging old grandpa as well, his troubled parents decided e-ve-ry-time, that little Orbin could not keep them, but had to bring them to the animal shelter instead. From then on, he visited the shelter, played there, grew up there. Whenever he needed to escape the busy hustle-bustle at home, he went to the poor little animals to give them some love. And they gave it back.

Orbin: That's right. I've found I can think a lot clearer when I'm holding an animal. I am very much at ease with them.

Manon: Now, this, Rachel, is a man after my own heart. And I am sure yours as well. I have my poor, sweet, abandoned little nibbles, and he has his little furries, springies and barkies that are just as much in need of love as my children. Now he only needs some human love himself.

Orbin: I feel very grateful for how my life is now. It is full, and happy. A woman like Rachel would be very, very...

Orbin: Still, that got me the job I have now, and am very good at. Honeycomb Valley's Animal Shelter does not only run most efficient on its subsidies, it also has been awarded year after year as the best and happiest and healthiest...

Manon: It is, but you...

Stam: Cut it out, Miss. Shouldn't you promote the guy? He's a man after your own heart you said. This isn't a very sensitive way to go about it, is it?

Manon: These are things Rachel should know.

Stam: And she will. She's perceptive, and caring. She will understand and she will see he is happy. And I have a feeling he will be even more happy, seeing her succeed at those studies he failed at himself.

Manon: Well, I don't know. I, myself... I... My goodness, you gentlemen really are NOT from Praaven. How! how can you be so considerate? You are gentlemen! You should not care! Prospects are everything. Achievements! Reaching something before anyone else does. Earn the love of a lady!

Orbin: By being honest, and interested. It is all I wish to do for Rachel right now.

Orbin: So, hi, Rachel, I am Orbin. We may have a lot in common and it would be really nice to get to know each other. It doesn't have to be a date yet, either. 5. What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?

I’ll give y’all a two-fer! One new-ish and the other old as balls

So last year, I had the idea to do a Parent Trap AU with the Rise turtles: Estranged Baronjitsu separating right after the tots were mutated, with Splinter taking Raph and Leo and living on a fancy movie star estate on the West Coast and Draxum taking Don and Mikey and staying in the Hidden City. Yokai would be revealed at some point; so by the time all the kiddos are middle school aged, society is just getting used to the integration of these two different worlds. The setting would, of course, start at summer camp, a prestigious camp smack dab in the middle of the US for budding mystic users regardless of if they’re yokai, human, mutant, or otherwise.

Leo and Raph would go with their buddies Casey and Junior (two foster kids who may or may not actually be related). Don and Mikey would go with April and Sunita. Shenanigans would ensue, with Leo and Don being mistaken for each other multiple times (mostly by Camp Counselor Todd who has poor eyesight in this AU for funsies). Then one thing would lead to another, and the turtles would realize that they are In Fact related and Obviously this means they have to secretly get their dads back together by using makeshift cloaking brooches to switch Leo and Don (the only viable ones to switch since they’re the same height) and eventually force their parents to reunite to switch the two back.

But who cares about THAT??? The idea actually spawned cuz I redrew caprisun in that one scene where Hallie goes “now that’s My kinda Woman!” when the tie dye girl manages to pull her duffel out from under a big pile without breaking a sweat. I really wanted to write tween Casey, April, and Sunita forming a close knit bond during the summer while the boys are off doing shenanigans and then continuing that when the switch happens with long distance phone calls and stuff. But alas, the other more urgent wips are a-calling, so I’ll settle for doing scene redraws whenever I feel like it lol

Okay, now the Old One was for a visual novel/dating sim called Hustle Cat, the first game I ever played that gave me they/them as an option for the protagonist’s pronouns. The different routes all followed the same pattern: a down on their luck young adult decides to apply for a job at a cat cafe and then finds out that all the cats are actually the employees who have been cursed in one way or another so that they can only be human while Inside of the cafe, and each route/romance option has the protag bonding with the chosen person and helping them with their problems and stumbling on a cure for the curse by said person discovering their unique magic.

The fic idea I had was basically a Special Route, where the protagonist in each timeline/route is Cursed and Dying, and the only way to save them is to send them back to the Beginning. So the protag, Avery, wakes up at the beginning of the game with all the knowledge from all these other routes. So, out of love for all the cafe people they dated in each route, they decide to play matchmaker for their friends while also trying to help them figure out their magic. Two of the three matches go well (Hayes/Landry & Mason/Finley), but the last match isn’t working that well. Avery Knows one of them (Reese) has a crush on the other (Graves), but it doesn’t seem like it’ll be reciprocated. At the same time, Reese is suspicious of this new coworker who seems to know everyone wayyy more than they should.

In the end, the curse would be revealed to have followed Avery through time and is still killing them, albeit very slowly through the story. Reese would eventually pressure Avery into revealing the truth, and the entire cafe would band together and figure out how to save Avery. Didn’t have much else planned out other than Avery/Reese being endgame cuz I Personally didn’t really like Graves’ route (what with him being significantly older and also the protag’s boss for a majority of any route). Anyways, happy ending! Everyone Gay with Magic and now able to be cat whenever they want!!

13. How much planning do you do before writing?

Usually, I let an idea kinda roll around in my head for a while (which can be as little as a few hours and as long as a few weeks) before I write anything. And then, when I do, I tend to start writing the beginning until I run out of steam, followed by writing notes of where I want the story to go. A note can be as simple as [characters fight] or as complex as [emotions and gestures and staging during a specific moment with possible dialogue]. Honestly, I tend to plan a lot because I struggle with actually writing, lol. Grasping the motivation to write is like trying to hold water in my hands! I really envy folks who are able to just go for it and keep going without needing significant breaks in between.

15. How do you come up with titles for your fics/chapters?

Depends on the fic! If it’s a fic based on art, like I’ll Be Ok! or Keep Your Eyes Open, then I’m directly pulling the dialogue from said art. If the fic has a specific vibe or references a moment in canon, then I’ll pull from those, too. A Light that Never Goes Out is a Kingdom Hearts reference cuz the canon material/cast heavily reference the games. “That’s My Mom!” is word for word what Casey Jr says at the end of the Rise movie and is also the exact moment I started to write and build off of in the fic. And if I’m doing neither of these things, then I usually try to keep the titles short and relevant to what I’m writing (like Training or Struck Match), sometimes changing them several times during the process if I ever think of something better.

Oh! And for chapter titles, I tend to do the same. I like for them to be relevant to the chapter while also building off the previous chapters. So like how I’ll be Ok! has “Promises Made” and “Promises Kept” and A Light that Never Goes Out has “The Heart May be Weak” and “Without a Doubt” (more KH quotes). Naming Ramifications’ chapters is Easy cuz they’re just the title of the relevant episode/movie, lol

18. What’s one of your favorite lines you’ve written in a fic?

Oh man, I’ve really enjoyed writing banter, lately, like Mikey and Raph’s whole exchange at the beginning of Keep Your Eyes Open. But! I think a few lines I’m immensely proud of are what Professor Honeycutt says to Mikey in Scrambled after being asked about giving up his memories during Season 3:

“Well, Michelangelo, to be completely honest, I did not give myself much of a choice.  I saved what was absolutely essential at the time: understanding my mission and who I could trust to help me.  The rest of my memories, whether they carried over or not, were left up to chance.  I believed, at the time, that I could not spare a moment to weigh their worth.”

“If you’d had that time, what would you have kept?”

“Everything,” The Professor answers without hesitation. “I feel, even now, after having several associates - friends - recount to me what I had forgotten, that I am… fragmented.  There are pieces of me that I had to give up forever; and while I do not regret their sacrifice, I miss them.  I mourn them as I do for the life I had before my fugitive status.  If I had been allowed the means, I would have saved Everything.”

It’s dialogue I came up with while at work, sudden inspiration that rocked me with how perfectly it fits with and aids the narrative. It’s also insight into Honeycutt that I’d never really thought about before. Like, here’s a wholeheartedly good individual who sacrificed parts of himself over and over again, whether intentionally or not. How would that feel over time? How much has he mourned these losses? The loss of his real body, the loss of sensation of a real body, the loss of agency, and the loss of memories, the only parts of him that are solely and wholly his own. I finished writing Scrambled and came out the other side a MUCH bigger fan of Professor Honeycutt, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Totally Normal People//Mariana's Food Save: (AU) (generally takes place in 2012 but time can be edited for threads!)

Eden: In which Joseph had just a little more patience with his daughter, so she was never sent to Rook. She leaves the cult on her own at 18 and moves to Chicago, getting an apartment with Jacob's help. Two of Jacob's judges, Jester, who was too old to be useful and General, who was too friendly, went with her. Shortly after moving, Eden gets a construction job where she meets Hayes, who was looking for somewhere to live. The construction job was given up due to it being contract work, not steady enough pay. Eventually she's hired at a grocery store to work in the deli. The hours are long and the pay is sub-par, but it keeps her out of debt for now. (fc source: Camp X-Ray)

Hayes: Instead of joining the military, Hayes hitched a ride to the states with his friends. They all went their separate ways in time, leaving him scrambling to find his place in the world. He works odd jobs around the US, meeting his roommate at a construction site in Chicago, until the opportunity to sell drugs presents itself. It's the easiest and most relaxed job he's ever had, which is why he's in no rush to change career paths. (fc source: Babel)

Elias: Pretty much just where he was before Rook. He works in the back of the deli with Eddie, cooking the food they serve and sending most of his money back to his family. He and Hayes run in the same circles and eventually find out that they live on different floors of the same building. This is hard for Eli, because he always tried to keep his real life separate from his 'side hustle'. (fc source: The Passenger)

Charlie: His parents moved to Chicago for his dads job, leading to entirely unfamiliar surroundings. His original plan of fucking around before going to college was thrown out the window after being dragged away from everything he knew. Charlie gets a job in the store as a day-time stocker. He's generally known as the "moody teenager". Found out he lives in the same building as Eddie after thinking she was chasing him home. (fc is N/A, I need to find him a new one bc this model is NOT working)

Mahsuri: Suri is a very busy person. Between caring for her grandmother, running her tarot business and also working as a cashier to support her family, Suri barely has any time for herself. The two-bedroom apartment is crowded with Suri, her mom and her grandmother, as well as the three family cats. Living in the low-income part of town also means loud neighbors and little cash flow for her business. Loyal customers keep her in business, and are often a welcome escape from her crowded life. Also: It's so canon in my mind that Vaas is also here and is part of a biker gang that oversees the territory where Elias and Hayes sell/buy. This would make it possible for him to cut off Hayes' fingers meaning that idiot can never have peace <3.

I accidentally did No Read November.  I finished five books and left many others hanging due to chronic inability to focus.  Favorites this month were Her Unexpected Roommate and The Perfect Crimes of Marian Hayes, which were both on Hoopla.  On the Hustle was also from Hoopla, Bad Desire was on KU, and I purchased Mirror, Mirror.

Movie night headcanons?

I love movie nights, they’re so fun!! I really hope this is what you wanted :) -admin Chia

Finley loves literally any type of movie but she normally tries to insist on horror

Hayes, Reese and Graves hate horror (Graves loves indie films and Hayes has a penance for sappy rom-coms)

Graves also tries to get everyone to let him put on weird foreign art house movies 

Landry isn’t super into movies (it’s a long time to focus) but he’ll watch them occasionally

he pretends to hate horror so that Finley rarely puts it on (the three that are actually scared refuse to say so)

Avery isn’t really fussed, sitting in front of the TV for hours at an end when they first moved to the city means that they’ve watched pretty much every genre there is 

even with all that there’s still a fair amount of squabbling over what to watch 

when it’s finally decided, there’s fighting about snacks and who sits where

Finley normally ends up sitting on Mason

Hayes just sits on the floor to try and stop arguments

no matter what they’re watching, Finley will talk through it

she’ll be asking questions or explaining plot points or talking about theories

Avery normally falls asleep sometime after the halfway point (although they’re such a light sleeper that every time it gets even slightly louder they jolt awake)

“Please, Avery, I have anxiety,” Hayes pleaded as he shoved his phone into Avery’s hands.

Unfortunately though, it seemed that Avery didn’t want to make this easy. Pushing the phone back into his hands, they yelped back, “Hey! I’ve got anxiety too, you know. You call them!”

In the past, had anyone challenged him on something like this, he probably would’ve crumpled and done what they said. But ever since he had began dating Avery and the whole hullabaloo with Nacht went down, he had found at least a bit more confidence in his reserves. He still struggled to say what he felt a lot, but he had gotten a lot better.

And when it came to Avery, he had no fear at all.

So, pointedly pushing the phone back into Avery’s hands, he protested, “You and me both know that my anxiety is worse than yours!”

“True,” Avery conceded. But they pushed the phone back anyway, saying, “<i> However </i>, you are much smarter than I am. The chances of you sounding like an idiot on the phone are significantly lower than mine.”

Hayes pushed back again, practically yelling now, “How can you sound like an idiot ordering a pizza?!”

Avery pushed back, saying, “Trust me, I can find a way.”

Hayes resisted the urge to groan. This happened every single time they had to order food… this war of attrition.

And ninety percent of the time, it always ended the exact same way.

“Text Finley?” Hayes suggested.

“Already on it,” Avery said, pulling their phone back and beginning to type.

Finley would make them do a favor for sure once they got to the restaurant for compensation, however, Hayes considered it a small price to pay in comparison to talking on the phone.
