Total nerd moment coming full circle; moving into my first home and the first keychain I grabbed (within reach) was my Nelson Murdock and Page tag keychain, but it keeps disappearing in my purse (black on black) so I’m trying to decide on its partner in crime (sorry, bad pun) .

So do I add another scale, or go with the Penguin option that I bought specifically because it reminded me of #TheRedThread fanfic by @pastafossa ???

I had some nerd time today at the thrift store.

First and foremost, the freaking Cory Heart album. I still have this cassette I bought in 1985 or 86'. Top it odd with it still having the collector's poster in it. I knew I had to buy it.

Breakin' (1984) was blowing up everywhere when I was a kid, half the people I hung out with were into breakin'. I stood on the sidelines with a chronic case of the "Whites" but I could hit play on the player like an expert.

Doctor Detroit (1983)! I saw this movie at my Grandma's when I was like 14 or 15. They had Showtime, I think it was, it showed "R" rated movies around the clock unlike the others that started like after 2200. It's a time locked move but teen me thought all the T&A was just fine.

The others records kind of speak for themselves.

What’s up with how the dunmeshi fandom just lies about this kind of stuff all the time. It is easily confirmable information that it was a monthly series, something incredibly common in the industry.

A not weekly magazine schedule is literally common !! Especially in the seinen shoujo and josei demographics, sometimes monthly, sometimes biweekly, sometimes every two months, sometimes seasonal! Please stop lying about how Dunmeshi was some special unique creation that defies all standards of manga just to hype it up because it is so clear that every single one of these comparisons is centered around Weekly Shonen Jump (and understand that SJ has many magazines under its brand that are monthly or semimonthly). Not everything is WSJ and it needs to stop being the only point of reference in conversations like this 🤧

we see one of my favs from an outside POV: they are hot, badass, terrifying, tragic, or any/all of the above

idk if you guys remember but ochako does have parallels with All Might, specifically as the side who saves. It’s not that he feels the same for them both or something like that, they serve to represent the type of heroism he naturally goes to; his friend is not his love interest, from his perspective she’s out there having a crisis over not being able to save her, and Izuku reminds her that she is a hero bc she is his hero -she saved him multiple times, and she should be able to feel like a proper hero.

This conversation is not about the nature of their relationship, is about heroism; Izuku relates to a conflict between being a hero who saves and failing to save someone, and doesn’t want to see Ochako ending spiraling because she couldn’t also fulfill that role as expected. She’s his hero not because he loves her romantically -he’s a nerd I’m sure he would be way more nervous and blushing if he was confessing anything he thought was romantic- but because she’s able to go and do what All Might does to Izuku, save him physically and emotionally.

He knows she hides her feelings in order to not be a burden, yet he doesn’t talk about his own feelings outside of his guilt in heroics -what does he feel about losing OFA? About his own failures? About the people he personally lost? He can’t talk for others and claim Ochako is everyone’s hero, but he can speak for himself, and that’s his personal perspective -she is a hero to him, she’s his hero. And then the class appears to make sure she’s able to get support and understand she’s not alone, and she’s important to them too.

but Izuku doesn’t get support. Izuku cries a little and talks a little about himself, but he doesn’t get supported. If this was meant to be romantic, I don’t understand why he would hold back what’s inside of him.

the end of the chapter reveals that boy is going to be helped by that woman who regretfully ignored Tenko, and they both witness it and are happy about it while hearing izuku inspired that change, and iida wonders what’s up with them -this is the conclusion to their relationship. In their hearts these two are saviors who struggle to be heroes who save others, and they are happy there are appearing more people who want to be heroes like them. Heroes who save. Save like All Might.

That grandma for example, interpreting the narrative as what I think is intended, would be that boy’s All Might; she’s his hero.

Izuku and Ochako are heroes who save, and Deku is here to remind her at least she did save him many times, that she is still a hero because she is his hero. I don’t believe is meant to be interpreted as romantic, not that Izuku sees that phrase as it neither -after all, he said he does want to be like All Might and feels good to imitate him, but he doesn’t love him.

Ochako’s All Might hair moment, the parallels with Toshinori telling him he can be a hero, the trying to save from black suffocating quirks, the we can do it and do your best…

in which cure gives me brainrot 5 months after release

so ive been transcribing the guitar parts for cure and i just have some thoughts regarding the music and its relation to the video

first of all, the guitar motif that you hear front and center in the teaser is pretty hard to spot in the actual song.

it plays very quietly in the left audio track starting from when ivan begins singing his part, and lasts for 7 bars until the main guitar riff kicks in. i think there's interesting ways to interpret this, if you think of this little guitar motif as representative of ivan. by choosing this motif to represent the entirety of round 6 in the teaser video, it's made clear that ivan's feelings are the focus of round 6. in the song it plays quietly, hidden in the mix, as if symbolizing his masking of his true emotions. however, it plays loud and clear as the sole melody in the teaser; not the guitar riff from the intro of the song or the stuttering guitar of the chorus, even though they are more recognizable parts of the song. it's like an audio representation of ivan throwing his round: this is not about the song, or the performance; that is all cast aside for ivan's emotional outburst. something that should have been neatly hidden away is now the focal point of the round.

the next part i wanted to talk about is the ending, the part that deviates from the studio release. after till and ivan sing their individual parts, there is a call and response section where they take turns singing.

till stops singing halfway through this part, and ivan tips over the microphone and goes in for the kiss.

during the kiss, the guitar part from the chorus plays, as if to say that this is ivan's chorus now. it's an expression of his feelings, and ivan is the one in control.

after confirming their scores, ivan leans back and holds till's neck. till closes his eyes.

during this part, the guitar part from that previous call and response section repeats.

the shot switches between ivan and till. till closes his eyes. ivan is shot. ivan looks at till. till's eyes are closed. ivan looks at till. till's eyes are still closed. the guitar returns to the tonic chord, Fm, again and again, and the visuals parallel the same failed call and response as the music. ivan is waiting for a reaction from till, anything in response to his outburst—and till is giving him nothing. and that's how the round ends, no duet, no last run of the chorus, no callback to the intro. it just ends, unresolved.

so anyway i thought that was neat.

I feel like when Tenzin was younger, he couldn't control his temper and it made him even more mad. Katara couldn't get through to him all before Aang said he'd give it a try.

He sat Tenzin down, listen to all his anger before he admitted that he's angry because Air Nomads are calm and surreal. "How could I be an Air Nomad when I can't even keep my temper under control?!"

Aang gave him a soft smile before telling him a story about his youth. "Well, if a certain Waterbender didn't explode, I'd still probably be in that iceberg. And if I was still in that iceberg than I wouldn't be here now, with a certain explosive Airbender."

Tenzin blushed before he hugged his father, feeling somewhat happy about his story. 🥺
