Final Fantasy IV: The installment every FF game SHOULD strive to be like

Hello, friends. Let me tell you about the most underrated installment in the series which near and dear to me because it was not only my introduction to Final Fantasy, it was my introduction to RPGs in general. It is the game the showcased the best of what Final Fantasy brought to gaming, or once did rather, and it is in my opinion the game every other one should have strived to be like... Final Fantasy IV aka Final Fantasy II in North America.

FF7 gets a lot glory, honourable mentions, spin offs and a lot of games since its creation strive to be just like it if not inspired by it, but I think that the franchise is completely wrong when it comes to which game it should focus on being more like. FF4 is the one all FF games should strive to be like because it really is a gem. The amount work, time, effort and love put into it not only shows, it’s stood the test of time. Even now, you can replay the most primitive version of it (the SNES) and it will still be impressive even compared most modern original games now. Yes, it has modern remakes and a few spinoffs though it still doesn’t get the recognition or appreciation it so rightfully deserves. And here is my case as to why...

Note that there are spoilers ahead!

Number one, it had the best music. Like I said, you can play the most primitive version of this game and it will still impress you. For a Super Nintendo game, the music sounds like it was played by an actual orchestra. The prelude alone sounds heavenly and Golbez’ theme sounds like something out of the underworld (more on him later). While the modern music on more modern consoles of FF are nice, none come close to the quality FF4 had. It was more than just about giving each character their own theme song. Every single piece suited the setting and mood it was made for.

Number two, it had the best protagonist: Cecil Harvey. Ever since Cloud appeared, the trend of FF was to have weird or broody kids play hero. Cecil was a real man who did not play hero. He IS a hero. He is a leader, brave, intelligent, responsible, selfless, kind, faithful and doesn’t need to be convinced to do the right thing. He just does it. In fact, that is exactly how Cecil’s entire journey began: with an act of honour. When he realized his king was evil after being tricked into burning the village of Mist to the ground, he had enough and began his rebellion then and there. Also, he inspired others to join him in doing right. I admit Cecil left a big pair of shoes to fill, but I wish more creators in FF would at least try to make their protagonists more like him.

Number three, it had the best antagonists. Yes, I meant for that to be plural because unlike all other FF games, Final Fantasy didn’t have just one main antagonist. It had two. The most obvious one was Golbez who just visually alone is serious, frightening and menacing. He isn’t a pretty boy at all. In fact, I even imagine his voice sounding like that of Darth Vader’s. As said before, his theme resonates with evil. He is also the perfect foil and adversary to Cecil because he’s also a leader, relentless, bold, daring, sadistic, cruel and competent. On top of that, he’s a tragic villain done right because it turns out that he was mind controlled this whole time since he was a teenager. Yet, even when he is freed, he still behaved like a badass and even took accountability for his misdeeds. Golbez knew the world would not forgive or pity him that easily nor should it, so he decided to face penance like a man and start a new life on the moon.

The other main antagonist who was memorable is Kain Highwind who also happens to be Cecil’s best friend and foster brother. What also sets him apart from all other FF main antagonists is that you only fight against him once and then, for most of the game, he fights alongside you only to betray you without a warning at the worst possible time. Another thing that sets him apart is that he’s not a tragic villain. He’s a corrupted hero. He is a good guy who made bad decisions and caved into his jealous towards Cecil making him susceptible to being mind controlled. In other word, Golbez played up that which was already there. And like him, Kain accepted that a simple “I’m sorry” was not enough to make up for the things he did and you respect that about him. I mean, he almost killed Rosa and he loved her (more on this later). There has not been a main antagonist like Kain since.

Number four, it had the best romance. A lot of the romances in FF these days are not healthy nor do they feel like they make any sense especially because the characters tend to be underage. The last believable romance I saw was between Zidane and Garnet, and even then, it cannot compare to the love between Cecil and Rosa. They not only have great chemistry together, they’re an item from the beginning and should I also mention that FF4 did a love triangle first? Moreover, it showed it accurately in how they are not fun or cute. They always end with someone getting hurt. You see, Kain was also in love with Rosa and tried to pursue her, but Rosa only loves Cecil. Moreover, though she needed saving a couple of times, she is also just as much there for Cecil. She is his greatest support, believer and is as every bit as stubborn when it comes to doing what is right as he is. Plus, she is the best healer in FF series in general as she is the only one who ever managed to learn Curaja (aka Cure 4) making her and Cecil a power couple. By the way, Cecil and Rosa got married, had a son together and are still going strong. How many FF romances went THAT far?

Number five, it had the best airships. The airships have always been a staple for FF, but you don’t get to use many all at the same time like you did in FF4. You got an airship that had a crane that helped you carry the hovercraft while flying, an airship that had a drill which helped you dig your way out of a mountain from the inside out, and airship that literally takes you to the moon and back. And the best part is, every time you got new one, you still had the others in your garage. I admit that FF5 also had multiple transportation vehicles that stayed in your inventory, but none of them impressed me the way FF4′s did.

Number six, it had the biggest and best set of worlds to explore. As well as having many airships to travel with, it had many worlds to explore. It had the usual overworld, but there was also a vast underworld to see. Moreover, the moon itself is a whole world to explore on its own not one dungeon that comes and go. Most FF games only have one world to explore or one at a time to explore, then there’s no going back. FF4 was not like that. Every world stayed intact and was there to continue being explored as the game went on.

Number seven, it had the best side quests. Like I said, the multiple worlds offered so much to explore and what you would find did not disappoint you. It had side quests that not only added to the experience, but also to the story as though you’re meant to take time to see what lies beyond. And everything you find is genuinely useful from Summons to Weapons. You’re left with the genuine impression that if you don’t complete these quests, you’re missing out. I admit FF5 and FF6 also had great side quests, but they did not surprise me the way FF4 did. I mean, how often do you get a side quest that lets you find out for yourself that not only is your friend still alive, you have a hand in saving him?

Number eight, it had the best story. The most important part of any RPG is its plot and FF4 did not fail to deliver. It’s story plays out like a TV series that you could binge watch over and over again. In fact, if one FF game SHOULD be adapted and faithfully to a TV series it should be this one. The story and character development is just so well done and really draws you in. Did you know that FF4 was the first video game that actually made me cry? When Tellah died, I am not ashamed to say that I cried and not just because I was a kid who felt bad for a character. When Tellah died, you really mourned for him because you got to care about him and what he went through. And I am grateful to this series for making me feel that way because it taught how to write tragedy right.

Number nine, it has been remade again and again, yet still always winds up still being good. I admit it translates best to being 2D and cartoony, but even the CGI 3D version on the DS was was still great and the voice actors selected were pretty much how we imagined them to sound in our minds. More importantly, the remakes always stay faithful to the source material which tells me that deep down, the creators know how perfect FF4 is.

In short, FF7 may be the franchise’s cash cow, but FF4 is its masterpiece. And I can say openly without shame that upon learning that it is getting yet another remake, I am considering purchasing it just to play it because I MISS playing it over and over again. This game not only shaped my childhood. It helped me in my writing.

I might take you up on your offer for guidance in FF series one day! (I still gotta start kingdom hearts!) I just wanted to ask what your favorites from the series are, sense most are stand alone game.

Ahhhh! Good luck with Kingdom Hearts! I complain about it so much but it does have a permanent spot in my heart (and the games are by and large really fun to play)

As for Final Fantasy, of the ones I’ve played IX is by far and away my favourite. It has a really fun cast (particularly the core group of Zidane, Garnet/Dagger, Steiner and Vivi), a villain I love, fun designs and a really good storyline. I’m rather partial to its themes of existentialism and facing your own mortality. Also it’s just fun to play!

V is probably next. Specifically the GBA version is the one I played. I’m partial to nice spritework, I love all the different classes and their costumes, speaking of which I really enjoy the job system in the game! Also it has one of the smaller casts and I love them all so much. A rather goofy-ass plot for the most part but a fun one.

Also have a soft spot for IV since it’s where I got into the series. Melodrama as hell it is but some of the plot beats hit really well. Cecil Harvey I love you.

Trip (The Last Time)

Last Day …

Oh my the last day was amazing but sad it started with me having a well deserved lay in after some slight bother at the door earlier with Mr. Oliver going missing (not really he just got dragged out) I then decided to get up and head out and try find some people that might be nearby on my travels this civilian came up to me and started cleaning my shoes and I was like " FFS I'm going have to pay him" in my head I should've just kept walking or told him to go away or something but after that slight unfortunate event I did manage to find Ella, Harvey, Anna, Thomas and Eva in which they were heading for some lunch in which I went "perfect I'm hungry" we went to this fast food type place called Jollibee which was quite decent.

Then for a while we just did some shopping and I did some more things for some people back home. (which they did like)

The Last time we would all have dinner together was a bit sad knowing We'd never be this big group again sure some of us might hang out together you never know. The food we were served was great all the best foods spring roles, chips, rice, meat/noodles stew and a really nice coconut cake for desert.

Then shortly after we gave Mr. Bao a thank you gift for his amazing work and then everyone started signing t-shirts that they got at the start and also books, I got my book signed since I think it's more cooler and more special.

The Suresh Problem.

If you’re here from that reddit petition, please be aware that this post was used without my consent.

Okay, I've received yet another four or five asks in my inbox about Suresh, so I'm just going to discuss this properly, once. I'm going to put the majority of this under the cut, because it specifically addresses very triggering topics for a lot of people.

TW: SA, DV.

TL:DR; you're all getting played by Fusebox, and they wrote Suresh to be an asshole on purpose.

I really appreciate that y'all are sending me these asks. Particularly as so many of them have mentioned that they feel that my blog is a safe space for POC. I cannot express how much that means to me. Thank you. I'm doing my best.

After this post, I will not answer, acknowledge, or in any way interact with any asks that compare Suresh to Harvey Weinstein, Andrew Tate, or any of the other real-life sexual predators & abusers he's been compared to, even if it's to defend him. While I appreciate y'all bringing it to my attention, it's just exacerbating it, and I'm not giving it a platform after this post.

I am not an expert in talking about race, nor am I an expert in writing POC. I'm not a POC, nor have I ever claimed to be. I just don't believe in putting discussions like this in the too-hard basket, and pretending they doesn't exist because it's a hard conversation to have. My willingness to have these discussions is not 'bandwagoning', or at least, it's not intended to be. I don't have the world's largest platform, but I have a small soapbox and I'm going to use it properly.

I'm also going to put a disclaimer here and say that this is only an opinion, and an uninformed one at that. I don't work for Fusebox, I don't have a degree in marketing or digital engagement, but I have done some work in User Experience and my degree's partly in Cultural Anthropology, so I know a little bit about human behaviour and the way we engage with online media.

Again, not an expert. Just cynical and sick of the debate.

So here's the sitch.

They wrote Suresh to be a toxic, pushy asshole on purpose.

His behaviour, in some areas, is not great. The gaslighting, the manipulation, implying he used to trick her into sleeping with him. Many people, including myself, have been in emotionally abusive relationships with people who are like this. It's not nice. It's certainly not entertainment.

But you cannot sit there and tell me that this script did not go through multiple rounds of revisions. You think this wasn't brought up at Fusebox HQ? I can absolutely guarantee you that it was.

So why on earth would writers write him this way?

Because it gets you talking about the game.

Ever heard of the phrase 'Any publicity is good publicity'?

There are 1000+ LITG Fanfictions on Ao3. Guess which season has the fewest fanfics? Season 3. Often casually referred to as 'The Disney Season'. The only drama during that season was Ciaran/Tai/Yasmin picking MC, and/or Rafi/Lily flirting heavily with MC. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong, but overwhelmingly, it was a very sweet season with generally likeable and unique characters.

Season 2 had so, so many characters with different backstories, interests, motivations, etc. that it was hard to find someone who didn't like one of them at least a little. And people engaged so much with that content. Just based off the fanfiction numbers (because I don't have any official stats) at least 75% of the LITG FF content is for Season 2.

But here's the thing: It's far easier to make people angry than it is to make them fall in love.

What is the one thing almost everyone spent gems on during Bombshell? Telling off Juliet. It's basic engagement principle that people are going to be more engaged when they're emotionally invested in a piece of media. It's why clickbait exists. It's why internet trolls exist, for fuck's sake.

So why on earth would they bother spending the extra time in developing complex, multifaceted characters, when as a fandom, we've made it perfectly clear that we'll spend more money, more time, and more brain space into tearing apart characters we hate, rather than doing the same for characters we love?

Fusebox are a business. They do not care if the game offends you. What they do care about are those sweet, sweet advertising dollars. And if they can show a reddit sub with thousands upon thousands of eyes on it, all ranting and raving about Suresh, they can absolutely turn to an advertiser and say "Yo, look at our engagement levels!"

This is just capitalism. It's business. If they take it too far on a TV show, advertisers will start pulling out. But advertisers only pull out when there's an actual, honest-to-god backlash. And most of the advertising (in my LITG2 app at least) isn't for products or companies with a reputation. It's for other games. Meaning that, realistically, if you did want to complain to an advertiser about the game being racist, sexist, misogynistic who are you going to complain to? Apple? The fuck do they care? They haven't broken any laws?

It's specifically designed to be controversial and problematic. That is the entire point. If this kind of thing triggers you, DNI.

Fusebox do not care about individuals' experiences.

A few people will be so triggered or turned off by the content that they'll leave. But enough of us stayed, engaged, and participated in the game to make it worth their while. So Fusebox just continues to exist in this sweet space, where they just insert more and more problematic characters, leading to higher and higher engagement. As long as they don't cross any hard lines, they can do it forever.

The inherent problem with this, is that a lot of people don't know when to stop.

And this is when it starts getting really fucking sad.

Y'all are taking a guy that's specifically designed to piss you off, and deciding he's an abuser, gaslighter, manipulator, etc. There are already so many stereotypes about South Asian men being pushy, or demanding, or that they don't respect women.

I've seen so, so many instances in the reddit sub, on facebook, and even in the official Discord server of language that tars all South Asian men as being this way. People saying, and I fucking quote, "I wouldn't mind it so much if it was Eddie". (Thanks, Reddit).

Firstly, there's a good reason that it's not Eddie. And that's because, as demonstrated by the quote above, a lot of people would be far more willing to excuse this behaviour if it was coming from a pretty white boy.

So why is this?

Why do you think they made the manipulative, 'won't take no for an answer' man be from Southern Asia?

Why do you think they made Hope a sassy, determined black woman?

Why do you think they made Miki a quirky, shy, but nosy East Asian girl?

Even Lottie, who's a whiny little shit isn't from the UK.

This game is most popular in the UK. It's also popular elsewhere, but its main target audience is the UK. It's why most of the characters are from there, the script contains UK slang, etc.

It's so much easier to hate someone when they're not 'from here'.

Check out any American superhero movie. The villain is foreign. In Hollywood movies, they're British, French, Russian, Chinese, South American, Arabic, whatever. They're just foreign. Or different.

They're others.

Because it sells.

It's easier for you to team up with your mates on reddit and condemn Suresh for his behaviour than it is to do it to someone who looks like you.

But guess what?

There are people who play this game who are People of Colour.

(Shocking, I know. They enjoy playing games too!)

And whenever you buy into this bullshit that Fusebox is feeding you, whenever you pile on a character like Suresh, you are making them feel like they're not welcome here.

People of Colour are being used as a means to an end.

Instead of writing complex, multi-dimensional villains with real motivations, Fusebox are using basic clickbait to get you to engage.

And that's super fucking unfair.

I'm not telling you to do anything. I'm not telling you not to play. I'm not going to stop spending money on it. I'm certainly not going to stop.

I just want people to be aware of what they're doing.

Be aware of the fact that they're playing into your preconceived ideas of race, culture, and ethnicity.

Be aware of the fact that they are trying to you to engage at at all costs.

Be aware that your rabid fan-ness can actually spur others into a mob mentality.

Be aware of the fact that you're allowed to criticise characters. But criticise the writing. Criticise the business tactic.

Don't fall into the quicksand!

Don't let yourself make it about race. Stop letting others make it about race.

Stop engaging with it when it becomes about race.

Stop engaging when your friends compare him to Harvey Weinstein, Andrew Tate, Prince Andrew, etc. He's a character from a mobile game. They are real people who have hurt real women.

Show Fusebox you'll engage with the stuff you do like, as opposed to only engaging when it's piling on to a character.

Get rabid about the drama, not about the character.

And look, I'm writing this out in a long, one-shot rant, so I might've completely rambled, contradicted myself, or said something completely wrong, so please forgive me if I have.

I just hope this helped someone see it for what it is.

Do: Make memes about Suresh not apologising.

Do: Hate him for cheating.

Do: Push him in the pool.

Do not: Compare him to a real life sex offender

Do not: Make it about race

Quick Gotham 5x05 thoughts

Good episode. Some fans would be rejoiced. I’m not one of them. But we still got some nice, if subtle, Gobblepot scenes.

Too much of very uninteresting Ed this episode. He walks around all growly and shouty, and there’s space for only one growly man in my heart XD So he was very annoying to me with how much of him we’ve been getting this episode. And for a person who’s supposed to be smart... he just isn’t. Puzzles and riddles, that’s the best he can do. Smart is not about that at all. Just look at Lucius Fox, whom we didn’t see this ep and that’s a real bummer.

Now, what did I like... Eduardo’s been fun with those memories of Jim, finally - some backstory for our main character! ABOUT TIME.

Bruce and Selina’s scenes were heartbreaking, period. Please give those kids a hug.

Harvey remains the most relatable and solid presence in Gotham. Poor man. I’m kind of back with saying “Oh Harvey” in a sad way each episode. He also deserves a hug.

Smart is what Oswald is. Smart and fearless. He defuses a dangerous situation, he expects the things his opponents might do and moves to prevent their progress - that’s my man. Not a lot he can do with snipers in the picture though :( I’m kind of worried about the eyepatch follower of his, I don’t recall if he was there in that scene. I hope he’s still alive and keeping Olga safe or something while she cooks dinner for their boss.

I loved how Jim noped out of the assault mission on Oswald right away. Boy sure knows he can’t stop from showing everyone where his loyalties really lie. Hint - with saving Oswald.

But he could’ve stepped in earlier and stopped that manhandling at the precinct, ffs. Oswald gets hit and abused too much on this show. It’s getting kind of old.

Also. Oh. Boys. Just why do you always act your best, why can you always find a mutual understanding when you talk alone? When you’re alone with no outside pressure? Those roles get exhausting, don’t they? I wish you could catch a break.

Was certainly a pleasure to see Hugo Strange again, he’s delightfully creepy. AND. If he chipped Ed like a dog. If the chip is remote-controlled. If Ed is more or less Bane’s remote-controlled toy now... is there a vibration option installed? XD

The sound on the stream glitched for me when Bane and Jim talked at the end, but did Bane mention Amanda Waller? Was that her? I liked that character in the cartoon versions that I’ve seen! So this is actually exciting for me.

Also. Oh Jim. Why do you always get the short straw? Getting hunted down by a mind-controlled villain, that can’t be nice. Having to prove your loyalties by shooting another criminal? Well, Bane doesn’t know how that worked out for Don Falcone. But honestly, my heart goes out to Jim again. There are so few friends he can trust. And whatever they both said to each other in that interrogation room, he and Oswald ARE friends. I wish they would work together again. I mean, that’s certainly a dynamic partnership, based on mutual respect and admiration, not loathing and threats (you know what I’m looking at right now).

Jeremiah. Oh Jeremiah. That’s creepy how he recovers in that scary tunnel to begin with. But when they showed us that doctor and that couple... ugh.

I admit, I haven’t read any of Batman’s comics so I don’t know how in canon that is. But those two people were made to look like Thomas and Martha Wayne, I’m sure of it. That’s just the thing Jeremiah would think of to torture Bruce and have fun with him.

That’s very scary.

Oh, and I’m guessing next week we’re getting Magpie trying to rob Oswald’s vault? I’m kind of curious about that. Can Jim please come to Oswald and hide in his secret room too? Oswald could sneak him some of Olga’s cooking and it’d be almost like a little date. I mean, that would’ve been nice.

Rambling Theorycraft Time: Ingus, Balance and Parallels to other characters

I think about FFIII way more than should be necessary, as this blog may have tipped you off. One of those things is the large amount of text that got cut from the game (and by “large” I mean one scene per town/dungeon on average) which is not too easy since it’s in Japanese and I have only an online translator to work with.

One of the more intriguing things concerns one of the four Light Warriors, Ingus. I don’t know how much is intentional, but the devs/scenario writers/whoever wound up creating a few interesting nods to two other knights from the FF mythos. And that’s what I’m gonna talk about today.

Under the read more. Because it is long.

First, let’s discuss Ingus’ background. He is a knight that serves Castle Sasune, an orphan from another world (the figurative sense) that was taken in by the king and raised mostly as a knight, but with implications of partially as a son. If that background sounds even slightly familiar, that’s because it has been seen in the series before: Cecil Harvey is a knight that serves Baron, an orphan from another world (or rather, parents from another world, this time in the literal sense) who was taken in by the king and raised mostly as a knight, but partially as a son.

Now let’s discuss another facet of Ingus: His bond with Sara. Sara Altney is the princess of Castle Sasune and is pretty much all but outright stated to be in love with Ingus. Ingus, for his part, is also all but outright stated to return her feelings, and thus is fiercely devoted to her. However, just as Ingus wasn’t the first orphan to be trained into knighthood by a king, he also isn’t the first to have affections towards a Princess Sara: That honor goes dubiously to Garland from the first Final Fantasy who, according to most recent supplementary material, was smitten with Princess Sarah. Garland’s story isn’t anywhere near as happy though: Although he had feelings for Sarah, she did not return them. This leads to him kidnapping her and his hatred creating the Four Fiends which lay waste to the planet in different ways. Whilst Garland is said to still be around in the ending of the game, it’s kept ambiguous if he truly is back to being the top knight that he was when he served Cornelia.

Now, there is a something both Cecil and Garland have in common: In addition to being top knights of their kingdoms, they’re both Dark Knights. Cecil is probably the most famous and easily recognizable Dark Knight in the series and while Garland was created prior to the term/job existing, the power of his hatred lines up nicely with the job and he is classified as such in spinoffs when he shows up. By contrast, Ingus doesn’t show any particular leanings towards Dark Knighthood... in the finished game. However, in the unused Japanese text strings for DS version, it’s hinted that he was descended from a resident of Falgabard which is where the Dark Blade wielders originate from; Doga mentions that Ingus’ eyes resemble a Dark Blade wielder’s and Ingus himself notes that he feels nostalgic when the group enters Falgabard. He even states that, after the whole Light Warrior business is over, he wants to go back and study the place and Dark Blades further. In addition to that, FFIII has internal game logic to dictate who changing jobs work based on a rank of job type (Physical/Special) and morality (Lawful/Chaotic) Both Dark Blade wielders, Ninja and Dark Knight, are firmly in the Chaotic sector along with Magus.

(As a bit of a sidenote, this also gives Ingus a sort of theme of balance. Ingus already is shown to use the Red Mage class and is hinted to be descended from the chaotic jobs. About the only thing that would clinch it is to give him leanings towards the knight job since that’s the moral opposite of Dark Knight and while FFIII itself doesn’t do so to my knowledge, Record Keeper does make him a Knight, vindicating this comparison)

And whilst on their own the comparisons are already a bit peculiar, the fact that Ingus has a connection to Dark Knights makes it even more intriguing.

okay so like Stardew Valley is my favorite game in the world. I can play it over and over and over again and I will never get tired of it - its probably to the point that my love for this game is annoying to my friends BUT WHATEVER.

So I play the vanilla version of SDV on my switch and I play a ridiculously modded version on my PC. After playing through my PC version, I decided that it was about time I actually made a masterlist of all my mods so bear with me... there’s a lot

Let’s start with some rules of like SDV modding:

Firstly, I would say to avoid xnb mods buuuuuuuuuuuut you’ll see later on that I don’t >>  but really I would try to avoid using these as much as possible since they can be a hassle

Secondly, YOU NEED SMAPI OMG DO U NEED SMAPI and it needs to stay updated. ALWAYS.

Thirdly, YOU ALSO basically need to use Content Patcher bc a lot of those old aesthetically-pleasing xnb mods you want to use are now a content pack!! (Use the stardew valley wiki’s modding compatibility xnb list to find unofficial updates for these [link]

Fourthly, back up all ur main game files - you know just in case.

Fifthly, if the mods are making ur game too slow or is too much for ur computer to handle then... just play the vanilla version of the game! ITS FUN FFS I only started modding my PC game after I had completed the community center, gotten married and had one kid lol sorry i didn’t want another kiddo

Sixthly, if you need help, go ask the modding community in the stardew discord - they’re super nice people and a lot of them are like the og modders. they’re like literally amazing.

BC does indeed look handsome (and tired) at TIFF. Desperately wishing I could be there. It’s nice to see him being so sweet with his fans. Nice to see he’s not having to drag 🐙 around on the RC.

I think TCW is going to end up being a flop no matter how much pushing Harvey does. It’s the subject matter of the film that would be getting a big MEH not the actors or acting. However I think BCs other projects are going to be amazing. Too bad those other projects didn’t get a screening at TIFF.

On the topic of final fantasy, what do you think of Cecil Harvey from FF IV? If you haven't heard of him he's got a pretty nice redemption story and he really earns the title of paladin.

I know of him and his story, but I’m afraid I don’t have any emotional connection to better gush about his becoming a paladin/knight. Otherwise knowing me I surely would.

PLL 7x13 Hold Your Piece - thoughts (confirmation Charlotte is alive in this episode?)

Overall, a general step up from last week’s episode which was one of the worst of the series. Still disappointing, and I still want to know when the love letter to the fans begins.

We started off interesting and then it went straight to filler. Ffs.

HERE’S AN IDEA... WAIT FOR THE IPHONE TO DIE AND DON’T CHARGE IT??? 

The Hanna doll was creepy! I loved that. And cutting into the doll was a clever interpretation of appendix. Even I didn’t think of that Hanna, nice!

Making Aria, out of all the liars, be the tech genius was definitely fan-service to the Aria is A theorists. And I love that the writers did that. They respect the fans. It’s the final season and they want to satisfy everyone; Aria won’t be A, but it’s about time they showed Aria be stronger than usual (both physically - pushing Sydney and also in terms of how smart she was by planting the GPS tracking chip in Sydney’s bag).

I like that Sydney got some clarification but my gosh - will we ever find out who was the fourth person to the picnic in 505?

I’m going to cop hate for this. But I LOVED not having Alison around. I’ve always been a firm believer that this show started going down once Alison came back alive, mainly in season 5. With just the simple absence of Alison, it felt like a good old season 3 or 4 episode. And I loved those vibes. I love seeing the group of 4 without Ali, sometimes.

Yvonne dying honestly shocked me! It happened out of nowhere! Good job writers, for shocking me. I definitely knew it was coming, I’m not shocked that she died, but more so the way and time she died. One second she’s confessing how happy she is, next second, literally, she’s gone. I really felt so terrible for Toby.

Fury and Spencer. Get absolutely lost. Couldn’t care less. I can’t believe how much time they wasted playing ping pong. I understand fillers. But THAT much is just stupid.

I liked that short, cute Spaleb scene. “I like how easy that was”

Caleb helping with the board game.. thank god. If they waited until episode 9 to enlist Caleb, I would’ve been so frustrated. At least we can get some sort of satisfaction that the girls are somewhat trying to beat the game.

“Hey Loser” ... try harder AD. Sounds like a threat the kids on the playground use. And stop using the Spongebob Squarepants font, please!

The final scene had me so so so disappointed. I initially thought it was a betrayal scene - Fury is working for AD! They had him in black, with gloves, an A package, everything! But no. It was him as a police officer opening a package from AD. Bummer. I would’ve LOVED a betrayal there (Fury working for AD).

LUCAS MADE THE BOARD GAME. I still stand by this. It’s what PLL does - they make the characters fall in love with each other (not literally in love) only for a massive betrayal to happen. Right before Toby was revealed as A in 312, Spoby hooked up. Right before Ezra was revealed as “A”, Ezria spent the entire episode together. And now, right before Lucas is going to be revealed as working for AD, Hanna says all that lovey-dovey stuff about being a great friend. It’s a normal tactic used in TV: let the character confess their love so that the betrayal is even more shocking.

I can’t help but think that AD gave Spencer a soft/easy task because AD is Spencer’s sister (a Drake). I mean, the writers went out of their way to highlight that Spencer got it easier. Maybe this is important.

The finger is surely Rollins’. 5 years later??? It can’t be Jessica’s. I think this is the beginning of AD revealing what the girls did.

Can I get a hell yeah for no new characters!! It’s almost like the writers learnt their lesson from 712, yet obviously they didn’t because this episode was made months ago. But still. No new characters = at absolute least 4/10 on my scales. Hence last week got a 2/10, and didn’t even get a reactions post like this. My screen did not get a brick through it tonight because Addison wasn’t in it. Thank god. My screen is safe.

And finally. This episode, for me, almost confirmed that Charlotte is alive. I haven’t seen anyone else say this which is surprising me because it’s the very first place my mind went. Like, instantaneously my mind went there. Sydney said there’s an Anonymous Donor paying for Jenna’s surgery. Ummmmm... last episode, Jenna literally told us that Charlotte agreed to pay for another surgery for her eyes! I pray to god Charlotte is not AD but she could just be an anonymous donor without being AD, if that makes sense.

And wow, the promo for next week!! No way are we actually going to find out who killed Jessica in a random, non-finale episode. I don’t expect to get solid confirmation. We won’t hear the explicit sentence “X killed Jessica because Y”. We will find out more clues, but I am 98% sure we won’t get solid confirmation. It’ll be another Sara Harvey. Heavily implied it is someone, but not 100% confirmed. (But all the clues will point to Peter. He’ll be the one this reveal will base around.)

Overall.. 6.5/10. For the final episodes, I’m still somewhat disappointed, but it was a step up from last week. I can’t give it more than 7 because we missed our queen Mona.

Why each Final Fantasy Is Great (in random order )

  Final Fantasy VI  : Plenty full of characters to know and love, and it’s fun to take time to level up, as you can become extremely overpowered and unstoppable if you take the time and effort. Rich and engagingly nice story and a soundtrack you will adore. Has a dangerous and disturbing villian and Terra is ground-breaking for a game that came out in ‘94, where “ save the princess/ damsel” was pretty common in video games at the the time. Has a large, welcoming and hard to hate cast of characters. Also the touchingly emotional Opera scene.

 Final Fantasy XIII  : Entertaining and outgoing characters that are not what  they seem at first glance. Cheerful and emotional soundtrack, and a battle system that’s flexible and has many options to take during battles. Is Unpredictable and has you second- guessing. Vanille, Sazh !!! While the game does have a bad rep, it’s not that bad, flawed yes, but not as bad as the Internet makes it seem. Personally, it’s my of my least faves, but it’s not BAD, just strongly on the linear.

Final Fantasy X : A bright, beautiful and emotional game. A touching and heart-warming story and adventure. At times you’ll be laughing, at times you ‘ll be crying. A warm cast of characters, and Suteki Na De is one of the most alluring and heartbreaking songs in Final Fantasy history. You will be gripped from Tidus’ opening speech asking you to listen to his story, to the ending roll of the credits. Has a fun battle system, and a addictive sphere grid system. Tidus and Yuna has one of the best love stories and relationships in video game history. It’s sequel is also a really fun and cheerful game. Again, like FF XIII it’s VERY linear- but it doesn’t make the game bad, just  flawed.

Final Fantasy XV : A awesome story that’s about a roadtrip with friends.  SO FUN to drive around in a car while chilling and listening to FF tunes, having tons of freedom within the game, and enjoying a bright and creative environment as you topple down massive gigantic bosses and foes and take on a Empire. Has one of the best cast of characters in FF history- as they are so likeable, and you feel their friendship, and you really feel like they could be brothers.

Final Fantasy XII :  Final Fantasy XII has a fascinating political plot that will make you think. XII is one of the most mature and cultivated games in the series, but doesn’t feel like a bore. XII is thought-provoking, and feels like a more realistic take on the evil empire VS rebels storyline. Also the battle system is a interesting mix between feeling action and turn-based, frankly I prefer turn- based, but this feels like a nice and fair balance imo. Deals with the random encounter problem in a good way, by “ Chrono Trigger “ style, by having monsters on screen. ALSO KISS ME  GOODBYE, SUCH A GOOD SONG.

Final Fantasy IV : Final Fantasy IV is a charming game, that’s also highly romantic between the misunderstood Cecil Harvey and his gentle and brave girlfriend Rosa. IV is about Cecil’s journey for redemption and fighting the darkness in his heart. IV has music that make your heart soar. You will be cheering for Cecil and his friends.

Final Fantasy IX :  FFIX has a unique cast of characters that feels refreshing, and you will adore Zidane as the MC. This game is emotional, but it never feels cheesy on the drama, it feels just right. The game will make you care for it’s characters, and will you love them like a family. This game will become a beloved memory to you, always. This game is a strong fan- favorite for a  reason. Also Melodies of Life, one of  the best video game songs ever.

  Final Fantasy V  : This game is fun, goofy, a bit of a parody of JRPG cliches, has outgoing and cheerful characters that you will love, and the addictive Job Class System that will never bore you. FF V does have some dark and serious moments, so it’s not a total joke- it’s just a fun and wild ride. You could just play this game for HOURS, and not want to stop. Also Bartz is so lovely and adorable, him for KH please !!!!

 Final Fantasy II  : A unique and refreshing Final Fantasy, that breaks JRPG rules. Square took a risk and a gamble with this game, and it dares to step away from the formula, before it’s time. A bold and courageous FF title and video game, that’s not shy to be itself in every way. Even the music shines on the game’s uniqueness and shows how it’s rebellious.  Even if you don’t like the game in the end, you can still love and experience how refreshing it feels, and how it tried to break the JRPG formula ‘s “rules “ and “patterns “ when it comes to it’s gameplay. i could write a essay on this game TBH.

Final Fantasy VIII : Seriously, this game feels like you are experiencing a dream, and then later on - a wild drug trip, especially during the game’s final CD. This game feels dreamlike, and highly imaginative. This game is very cute also- and has a adorable romantic storyline. This game is dreamy, and CUTE. You will love the romance stories in this game, and the MC Squall and the “dreamworld “ MC Laguna. There’s also the highly addictive and fun Cards mini game. You also have a choice between spending hours grinding and drawing magic to overpower characters, or quickly grabbing a few spells and running away from battles to get on with the story. This game made a refreshing attempt to deal with random battles problems that comes with Turn- Based. Like Tidus and Yuna, Squall and Rinoa is a great couple and  10/10 on the cute. Eyes on me- while a little cheesy, is also super cute. Just 10/10 on all this cute.

Final Fantasy VII : CLOUD ! TIFA ! AERITH ! NANAKI !!!! One Winged Angel. unf. So good. That bum bum de bum bum de bm SEPHIROTH ! SEPHIROTH !!!!

Final Fantasy  I : THE GAME THAT STARTED IT ALL.  All the freedom you have, and you can choose your characters at the beginning of game. Don’t like that character ? Lol, bye, bitch. he’s gone.

Final Fantasy III. : It’s a challenge, a good FF if you are feeling like you are getting too good, and need a good game to make you sweat a bit. The first Final Fantasy to introduce the Job Class System. You will feel like a champion, after completing this game. The game also has rocking soundtrack, even on the NES version. Can be extremely unfair and VERY frustrating at times, but like FF XIII, it’s not bad, just flawed. All of the the FF games have flaws in one way or another, but it does not stop them from showing their high strengths within each game.

Final Fantasy XI/ XIV- Final Fantasy online ! A great way to meet new Final Fantasy fans from around the world, and have fun with friends.
