We're super excited to announce The Tortured Poets Fest, a Harry Potter themed fest centered around Taylor Swift's newest album! ✨

Calling all writers, artists, and video editors! Below are important dates, rules, and information you'll need to know if you'd like to join in with us. This fest is focused on The Tortured Poets Department — Taylor Swift's newest full-length album released on April 19, 2024.

This fest is open to ALL Harry Potter generations including Marauders, Golden Era, and Next Gen. All pairings are welcome!

We've also created a little community of participants on Discord to help with round tabling and creativity. We'd love if you joined us! This is an 18+ only fest.

You must complete the Google Form for your sign-up as well as claim your choice of prompt on the AO3 collection.

You may only claim one prompt at a time. If you finish your prompt, you may claim an additional prompt, but you must submit your first prompt as per submission guidelines.

One song prompt can be claimed by multiple people (it's not first come, first serve). You can use a song in any way you like for inspiration — title, lyrics, vibes… You do not need to title your work after the song or use lyrics in any way if you don’t want to.

Collaborations are welcome! Collabs can be illustrated fics, multi-writer fics, multi-artist artworks, etc.

✨ Creating

All ships from all generations are welcome (Marauders, Golden Era, and Next Gen). This is not a ship-specific or generation-specific fest.

There is a minimum word count of 1,000 words for all submitted fics. For podfics, the recorded story should be a minimum of 1,000 words. There is no maximum for either fics or podfics.

Multi-chapter fics are allowed, but you must finish the first chapter of the fic by the submission deadline.

All works must be tagged appropriately! In light of the mental health topics alive and real in this album, please consider yourself, your fellow participants, and your readers when discussing any themes on mental health in your works.

James walked into the dorm to find Sirius poring over the map, frowning. He stood in the doorway for a while before clearing his throat.

Sirius jumped, “Fuck! Prongs!”

“Hello to you too.” James sat on the floor next to him. “What are you doing?”

“Just looking at the map,” Sirius mumbled. “I think it’s broken.”

“It absolutely isn’t!” James scoffed. “Why would you even think that?”

“Moony’s disappeared,” Sirius said reluctantly. He didn’t particularly want to explain to James that he’d been watching the map since he saw Remus slip out of the common room with Gideon Prewett, but he supposed he had no choice. “He was in this corridor.” Sirius pointed to an empty spot of map. “Then he vanished.”

“Maybe he found the Room of Requirement.” James laughed. They’d been looking for it for over a year, to no avail. “Decided to keep it all for himself.”

Sirius’ frown deepened. “You think he’d do that?”

“Was he alone?” James asked, knowingly. Sirius’ silence spoke for itself. “Who?”

“Gideon.” He groaned, “Again.”

“Again?” James stared at him. “Do you just sit here and stalk us on the map when we’re gone?”

“If I see Moons sneaking out with someone, I… keep an eye on them.” Sirius didn’t like the way James was looking at him. “I know it’s not healthy.”

“So why do it?”

“Penance.” He said, “For the Snape thing. It could have been me sneaking off with Moony, and it’s my own fault that it’s not.”

James leaned back slightly, taking in Sirius’ slumped shoulders and sad eyes. “Well, firstly, you’re banned from the map.” He cut Sirius’ whine off. “I’m not letting you sit here and torture yourself, Padfoot. You can feel guilty in the common room if you must, but this isn’t healthy, you’re right.”

“I don’t want to be around people right now,” Sirius said quietly. “Everyone’s happy and I feel like I either have to fake it or I worry people.”

James nodded, “Want to play exploding snap up here?”

“You don’t have to do that.” Sirius’ frown eased slightly, “Surely you want to be with Evans rather than up here.”

“I can bother Evans any time.” James shrugged. “When my brother is sad, that’s my first priority.”

Sirius turned his head away but James could see how hard his teeth were cutting into his lower lip to stop it trembling and the breath he was holding so it wouldn’t come out as a sob. He let Sirius have a moment and grabbed the cards from his trunk. When he turned back to Sirius, he was alarmed to see him curled in on himself, body heaving with silent sobs. He pulled Sirius to his feet and wrapped his arms around him, bearing his full weight as he felt Sirius’ knees give way.

He knew that Sirius had been haunted by his actions from last term. Remus had spent a week and a few odd days with them over the summer and they’d reached a place where he’d forgiven Sirius, but things were nowhere near being back to how they had been. James had his doubts as to whether they ever would be. He still flinched away when Sirius touched him, and James could tell that Sirius was doing his best to retrain his muscle memory to not reach for Remus the way he always had. It was hard to watch.

“Deep breaths, Pads,” James said quietly. “In through your nose, out through your mouth.”

Sirius tried this for a while, often interrupted by his chest lurching or fresh tears. He let James sit them down on the edge of his bed and leant his head against James’ damp shoulder as he tried desperately to calm down.

“I fucked ev-everything up.” Sirius hiccupped, “I- I don’t blame him at all for keeping me at arm’s length. I just hate it, and there’s no- no-one else to blame but myself and every time I thi- think I’m doing better it sneaks u- up on me and I end up like this.”

“I wish there was something I could say that would help,” James said honestly.

“I know.” Sirius started shaking again. “Thanks. I think I just want to sleep.”

“I’m taking the map with me,” James said, laughing softly. “Have a vial of Dreamless Sleep.”

“Yeah, alright.” Sirius lifted his head from James’ shoulder. “Thanks, Prongs.”

Remus appeared in the common room about an hour later and James pulled him to one side immediately. “Have you found the Room of Requirement?”

Remus sighed, “Yes.”

“Why didn’t you tell us?” James looked so disappointed in him, it was like seeing his own face reflected back at him.

“I’ve been using it for tutoring,” Remus mumbled. “Didn’t want to have to share it with Sirius taking his flavour of the week there.”

“Tutoring?” James looked like his head was going to explode, “Tutoring, Remus?”

“Yeah, Gid’s wanted to work on his patronus charm and the room just… anticipates what you need. It’s incredible magic.” Remus smiled, “I’m sorry for not telling you.”

“I need a lie down.” James dragged his hand down his face. “Tutoring?”

“Why is that so hard to believe?” Remus frowned. “You think we were sneaking off to hook up? There’s a very pretty Ravenclaw who’d have something to say about that.” His eyes narrowed, “How did you know I found it anyway?”

“The map.” James shrugged.

“Do you just sit and stalk us on the map when we’re gone? Jesus, Prongs.”

“Yep. That’s what I do. I’m a pervert, sorry.” He grinned at Remus until Remus’ frown broke. “Tutoring!” He laughed.

“If I end up having to schedule my tutoring around Sirius’ hookups, I’m going to be furious.” He chuckled.

James didn’t have the heart to tell him that eventually he probably would have to do that, but not in the way he anticipated.

Alright, here are my notes!

1. Starting off with some beautiful angelic music, mixed with coastal ambience (be still, my Californian heart🌊)😍✨

2. Maude is a cutie!! She’s so fr for gushing about meeting the Sherlock & Co trio irl. I love her Scottish accent!

3. Speaking of Scotland, I was SO EXCITED to hear that this whole case is gonna take place in Scotland!! I just love Scotland and would love to go in the future, so any content about that I’ll take it!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

4. John: “I’ll make sure this chat is light” Sherlock: *talking to Maude* “LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR HUSBAND’S CORPSE, HOW THICK WAS THE BLOOD??” oh Sherlock😂

5. Really cool background info for Maude and the town of Fjara! It really lays out the kind of place we’ll (John, Sherlock, Mariana, and yes us listeners) be exploring.

6. John sang “Chasing Waterfalls” while brushing his teeth again. Last time he did that was in Silver Blaze Pt. 2. I didn’t think much of it before until Shoscombe Old Place Pt. 2 had Sherlock mention waterfalls and Moriarty getting a canon shoutout by John…oh God it’s so foreboding…I love it😈

7. Oh no John, why??? Why did you have to say that out loud to Sherlock and Mariana?? Now you’ll never hear the end of it from them (especially not from Mariana)!

8. Speaking of Mariana, she’s a Harry Potter nerd🦉🪄! I used to be one as well, so I loved their full argument about Quidditch with John and Sherlock saying it’s ‘rubbish’ (they’re not wrong, tho😂)

9. I just loved the small quiet scene with John talking to the microphone while everyone else was asleep. It’s so peaceful listening to his voice and even his yammering is so philosophical. It felt like a pure “stream-of-thoughts” moment that some people have had while traveling far away to someplace new (at least I have) 🌙✨

10. Mariana borrowed the mic while John was asleep!!

11. Local: “oh yeh these waters be DANGEROUS, here’s a list of all the possible dangers: razor sharp rocks, darkness, strong tides, and freezing cold”…um sir we just met, why do we need to know how dangerous the waters are?????

12. And the episode closes off with the same beautiful music from the beginning!🥰🥰

Overall:

- I’m excited for this case! I wasn’t expecting too much to happen in Pt. 1 since I knew it would be mainly a “introduce case, travel to location” kind of episode. But honestly what a strong start to it! I saw on the website for transcripts that we’re gonna be getting three parts for this case, so yeah I’ll be super excited when those come out!!

Calling all writers, artists, and video editors! This fest is open to all generations (Marauders, Golden Era, and Next Gen) and all ships in the Harry Potter world. It's focused on the newly released The Tortured Poets Department, and there are 31 prompts corresponding to the 31 brand new songs on the album!

Below are important dates to remember if you plan to sign up, as well as a quick reiteration of the rules of the fest. We hope you'll come join us and have fun creating some angst, some happy endings, and maybe a combination of both and then some 🖤

🌙 Sign Ups, Claiming & Rules

You must complete the Google Form and claim your prompt on the AO3 collection. If you do not submit the Google Form, your submission will not be considered.

There's an option when signing up for those who are still undecided (we totally get it since there are a lot of songs to choose from), but your first prompt must be decided by May 20, 2024, when sign ups close (you can do an additional prompt if you want to after this date, but the first must be fulfilled).

You may only claim one prompt at a time. If you decide to change your prompt, please let us know. You cannot claim two prompts; one must be fulfilled before you claim the other.

Collaborations are welcome!

Betas are not required to submit to the fest, though you're more than welcome to use an outside beta if you'd like (and there are other participants in the Discord server happy to help out).

There is a 1,000 word minimum for all submitted fics. There is no maximum.

This fest does allow darker themes (including dead dove: do not eat), but we require that all works be tagged appropriately and sensitively. This fest is an 18+ fest.

All submissions are due on June 24, 2024, by 11:59 PM EST. If you need an extension or to drop out, please let the fest mods know ASAP so we can adjust the posting schedules.

It was like James had a sixth sense of when Sirius brought a man home, because the last eight times, he’d tumbled through the floo, needing help with something, or wanting to hang out or to check in on Remus. Each time Sirius had been utterly cockblocked by it.

The ninth time it happened, he’d had enough.

“How do you do it?” He snapped when Davey suddenly remembered that he had an early start in the morning. “How do you do this every time?”

James, to his credit, played dumb, “Do what? I’m just here to return Moony’s book.”

“Where is it?” Sirius said, looking at James’ empty hands.

“Where’s what?”

“The book.” Sirius growled, “The book that you’re returning to Moony, Prongs.”

“Oh, would you look at that? I left it at home.” James chuckled, “Oh well, no harm no foul.”

Sirius strode past him into the hallway and James heard his bedroom door slam. Remus poked his head into the living room a few seconds later.

“I think he’s onto you.” He said wearily.

“No idea what you mean, Moony.” James sat down on the sofa.

“What is it?” Something in the wards?”

“Nothing gets past you, does it?” James smiled as Remus dropped into the armchair.

“I just don’t understand why you’re doing it.” Remus frowned, “I’d ask if you fancy him, but you’re getting married in three months so I almost don’t want to.”

“No, I do not fancy Padfoot. Jesus.” James groaned, “But you do.”

Remus’ face dropped, “Don’t know what you’re on about.”

“Moony.”

“Prongs.”

“Remus.”

“James.”

“Look, I know sometimes I can be… unobservant, let’s say. But not this time.” James pointed at him. “I saw the two of you at our engagement party.”

Remus’ face suddenly went from very pale to very red. “Ah.”

“Yes, ah. It looked like the two of you were finally getting your shit together.” James looked at him over the top of his glasses. “So what happened?”

“Well, we came home, we… spent some time in Sirius’ bed. I woke up alone in Sirius’ bed and we’ve just… never spoken about it.” Remus shrugged, but James recognised that sad look in his eyes.

“Would it kill the two of you to have a conversation?” James sighed.

“Possibly.” Remus said, “It’s definitely been too long to bring it up now, though. And he clearly has no intention of doing so. If anything he’s bringing more men home than he was before.”

“But they’re not staying long are they?” James feigned confusion. “Fascinating.”

“This won’t end well.” Remus couldn’t help but smile. “I'm going to deny all knowledge. Wait, would me bringing people home trigger the same thing?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?” James smirked.

“And that’s why I go to their place whenever the opportunity arises, instead of bringing them here,” Remus said.

“Well, that, and you’re not an asshole.” James’ smirk dropped. “I don’t get what he’s doing.”

“Oh, believe me, I’ve been over and over it in my head.” Remus said quietly, “If he regretted it, he could just tell me. It would suck for a bit, but I’m not a dickhead.”

“Maybe you just need to get drunk together again.”

“That’s a stupid idea.” Remus curled in on himself, tucking his feet under him. “Maybe I should think about moving out.”

“No!” Sirius stood in the doorway, wide-eyed and covering his mouth. James and Remus stared at him. “I don’t want you to move out.” He said quietly after an awkward silence.

“But you understand why he’d want to?” James frowned at him. Sirius nodded. “So, why?”

“I met Emmeline.” Sirius mumbled, “The morning after the party.” Remus’ mouth dropped open.

“Oh, fuck.” His head was in his hands, “Oh shit, oh fuck.”

“Yeah. She turned up for your coffee date wearing less than I enjoyed seeing on a Sunday morning.” Sirius came and sat on the arm of the sofa. “I may have been a bit snippy with her, honestly.”

“Wait, who’s Emmeline?” James asked, looking between them.

“She’s the woman that Remus brought home three days before your engagement party,” Sirius said, not looking at Remus, who was trying not to smirk.

“On a Wednesday, Moony?” James was bewildered.

“Sometimes trivia night is a good way to meet people,” Remus muttered. “I completely forgot that we had plans. Well, that explains why she blocked me.”

“That, and Sirius playing jealous boyfriend,” James added.

“I was not— I didn’t— Shut up, Prongs.” Sirius looked at Remus, “I figured it out afterwards that it was arranged before we… you know. And then I just felt gross for how I reacted.”

“You could have said something, you know.” Remus sighed, “You didn’t have to pretend it never happened and return to your carousel of men.”

“Yeah.” Sirius nodded, “It was shitty, and the shittier I felt about it, the more I spiralled, and then I thought you’d arranged this thing with Prongs to cockblock me, and then I was petty about it. And then I felt guilty about how petty I’d been, and then I spiralled some more, and yeah. I’m sorry.”

“Moony had nothing to do with it,” James confirmed.

“Yeah, I know that now.” Sirius pointed to the door. “Moody would have something to say about your awareness of your surroundings.”

“Moody can kiss my arse.” Remus shook his head, “We probably should talk about it then?” Sirius nodded.

“Well, that’s my cue.” James stood up. “You’re welcome. I’ll be around to fix your wards tomorrow. Please be clothed.”

“You’re lucky we love you, you know,” Sirius said as James waved before stepping into the fire.

“So at what point do we tell him that we’ve been together for six months?” Remus said as Sirius came to squeeze into the armchair. “He really thought he was onto something.”

“He means well.” Sirius kissed Remus’ forehead. “Love you, Moons.”

“Love you too.” He said, “Tell Davey we owe him a pint.”

Also my headcanon (is it a headcanon if it's your own fic?) is that the first time it happened it was completely innocent, Sirius was just bringing a friend round for a drink or something, but then James showed up and was so pleased with himself that they concocted this plan
