The harrison houde era of finding stuff out is lost media,

In 2012, edward kay and johnathan finkelstein alongside the canadian channel tvo (alongside apartment 11 productions) created finding stuff out for tvo’s block, tvokids, the show was hosted by youtube/actor harrison houde, and it followed harrison answering kids questions, (and in only season 1, his friend/neighbor sydney kuhnne would go to places themed bout the question,) the show did pretty well, as it got a mobile app, got nominated for children or youth non-fiction program at the 1st canadian screen awards (losing to kids cbc’s artzooka) and aired on discovery kids in asia and qubo in america, (before it got shut down) it also aired on the other canadian kids block knowledge: kids, however, at the end of season 3, harrison left the show, due to him working on ytv’s sitcom some assembly required, (he was the character bowie sherman,) in season 4, he was replaced by zoey sieward, on tvokids’s youtube channel, u can find episodes of season 4/5 of FSO, but not season 1-3, the era is on 9 story’s utube…but its blocked in canada, the country where the show originally aired!! Theres almost no vids of this era, (not even on archive.org!) aside from 2 promos, 1 uploaded by discovery kids asia, and 1 uploaded by tvo’s utube channel, if anyone recorded tvokids from 2012-2014, (the timeframe of the first 3 seasons airing) plz upload them to either utube or the internet archive, as i feel lik canadian media is awesome, and we shouldn't let it become lost media.

Een fascinerend werk dat ook de omslag van de catalogus van de tentoonstelling siert is The Gulf Stream. Te midden van hoge golven dobbert een zeilboot. De mast is afgebroken en het zeil hangt over de rand van de boot. Aan boord ligt een zwarte man, voeten en bovenlichaam bloot, met om hem heen wat suikerriet. Rondom het bootje zwemmen haaien. Op de achtergrond doemt mist op. Een onheilspellende scène die niet veel goeds lijkt te voorspellen voor de man op het bootje. Toch is zijn houding eerder ontspannen dan gestrest, zijn blik eerder onbewogen dan angstig. Linksboven zien we, gehuld in mist, een zeilschip opdoemen. Zal de bemanning het bootje opmerken? Zal de man gered worden? Of zullen de haaien hem verslinden? Homer laat het, zoals bij veel van zijn schilderijen, over aan de beschouwer om een antwoord op deze vragen te bedenken.

Het doek doet mij sterk denken aan het vlot van de Medusa van Théodore Géricault. Hier echter geen grote groep opvarenden op een vlot, maar één enkele man in een klein bootje. Een ander werk waar het doek me aan doet denken is van een landgenoot van Homer. Ik zag het op de tentoonstelling Es war einmal in Amerika in Keulen: Watson en de haai door John Singleton Copley. Op dit schilderij is een jongeman te water geraakt in de baai van Havanna. Terwijl mannen in een boot proberen hem te redden, zwemt een haai met opengesperde bek af op de drenkeling. Het doek van Winslow Homer is verreweg het meest enigmatische van de drie. De gelaten houding van de man, de haaien, het schip in de verte: alles draagt bij aan een open eind. Ik zie de scène als een filmopname voor me, waarbij een spannend muziekje aanzwelt onder de beelden.

De tentoonstelling in de National Gallery eindigt met laat werk van de kunstenaar. De mens is steeds meer naar de marge gedrongen of zelfs helemaal uit beeld verdwenen. De zee zelf is het onderwerp geworden. Woest kolkende golven slaan stuk op de kust van Maine.

Ook bij het zojuist beschreven werk The Gulf Stream is het Winslow Homer in de eerste plaats te doen om de natuur. Alle narratieve elementen in het werk zijn bijzaak. In een brief aan Harrison Morris van de Pensylvania Academy of Fine Arts dringt de schilder erop aan dat de titel The Gulf Stream niet zal worden veranderd. En aan zijn kunsthandelaar Roland Knoedler schrijft hij: “Het onderwerp van deze foto is vervat in de titel. [...] Ik ben de Golfstroom tien keer overgestoken en ik zou er iets van moeten weten. De boot en de haaien zijn bijkomende zaken van zeer weinig belang. Ze zijn door een orkaan in zee geblazen.”

Natuurlijk staat het de kunstenaar vrij zijn werk te beschouwen zoals hem goeddunkt. Als kunstkijker staat het mij echter even vrij mijn eigen interpretatie aan het werk te geven. En eerlijk gezegd interesseert het lot van de man mij meer dan de golven die om hem heen klotsen. Maar ja, ik ben dan ook een echte landrot.

Harrison and Dakota's collaboration dates back nearly a decade to their first short film, with Harrison directing and Dakota starring. This summer, Houde directs his feature film debut (co-writing with Dakota) in Quebec with Vital Productions, starring Dakota Daulby.

Adjoining marks their first time co-directing despite many years of co-producing.

    “Summer of 84” est un film d’horreur canadien datant de 2018, dirigé par un trio de réalisateurs, soit François Simard, Anouk Whissell, et Yoann-Karl Whissell. Une triplette à qui l’on doit également “Turbo Kid” (2015). Les acteurs principaux sont Graham Verchere, qu’on a pu voir dans “Woody Woodpecker” (2017), Judah Lewis, qu’on a pu voir dans “Point Break” (2015), Tiera Skovbye, qu’on a pu voir dans “Midnight Sun” (2018), et Rich Sommer, qu’on a pu voir dans “A Crooked Somebody” (2017).

Durant l’été 1984, Cape May dans l’Oregon, est victime d’un tueur en série responsable de la disparition de treize adolescents dans le comté au cours de la décennie précédente. Davey Armstrong (Graham Verchere), un adolescent âgé de 15 ans, est persuadé que son voisin Wayne Mackey (Rich Sommer), un policier très apprécié dans la ville d’Ipswich, est ce tueur en série. Les camarades de Davey rejettent cette théorie en raison de la réputation de ce dernier, fasciné par les théories du complot et les légendes urbaines. Ils vont cependant l’aider à mener ses investigations dans le but de prouver que le policier est bien un meurtrier. Progressivement, ils se rendent compte que l’homme a un comportement suspect, tout en mettant en lumière un faisceau de preuves. La situation se tend lorsque celui-ci se rend compte de la surveillance juvénile dont il fait l’objet…

L’aspect horrifique de “Summer of 84”, je l’ai cherché, mais je ne l’ai pas trouvé. En dehors de la découverte d’un cadavre dans la cave d’un suspect, et d’un adolescent qui se fait égorger, il n’y a rien qui mérite que l’on puisse qualifier ce métrage de “film d’horreur”. Pour faire plus simple, il n’y a donc rien qui fasse peur dans “Summer of 84”. On peut nullement considérer ce métrage comme un slasher. C’est le vide absolu. C’est bien entendu dans la dernière partie que se concentre l’action à proprement parlé. Ayant attendu durant près de 90 minutes une conclusion qui percute un petit peu, c’est la déception complète, car il ne se passe rien, ou presque rien.

Pour la partie suspense, celui-ci repose uniquement sur le fait de découvrir si oui ou non le voisin policier du jeune Davey Armstrong est le coupable. Bien que son attitude soit étrange, il n’y a rien qui puisse réellement venir confirmer qu’il soit un tueur en série. De prime abord, il a un air sympathique, et tout le monde semble l’apprécier dans la communauté de cette petite ville de l’Oregon. On découvre qu’il a plusieurs véhicules, qu’il possède un box où il entrepose du matériel de jardinage, mais rien de fondamentalement compromettant. On suit ici les allégations d’une bande de gamins, en se demandant ou tout cela va nous mener. Quand on découvre qu’ils se sont mis à trois pour réaliser ce métrage et à deux pour pondre le scénario, on ne peut que crier au secours….

On ne peut globalement pas se satisfaire de l’histoire. Le script est vraiment frêle et il n’y a vraiment rien d’innovant, aucun effet scénaristique particulier et une photographie basique, sans originalité en terme de cadrage. Le récit est fluide et la narration proposée est linéaire, les faits se déroulant sur plusieurs semaines. La conclusion du métrage laisse également à désirer avec quelques plans qui sont loin d’être explicites. La bande originale s’avère tout aussi ordinaire. La distribution offre d’honorables prestations dans un contexte que nous aurons jugé passable.

En conclusion, “Summer of 84” est un film d’horreur qui n’a d’horreur que le nom, disposant d’une histoire ordinaire, d’une intrigue molle et d’un développement atone. Le rythme est plutôt lent, le récit est fluide, la photographie ordinaire et la bande originale quelconque. Un métrage que nous aurons considéré comme une perte de temps et qu’on se refuse donc à recommander.
