Synopsys: Steve and Jonathan welcome their first child in their lives.
A/N: Because Saturdays are married!Stonathan with a daughter days 🥰 and my day's been shitty so far, so I needed a dose of fluffiness to brighten it a little bit;
Tumblr media
"Are you sure they gave us the right one?" Steve asks for the hundredth time, his eyes looking at Jonathan through the rear mirror before focusing back on the road.
His husband rolls his eyes for the hundredth time as well. If Jonathan had a penny for every time Steve asked, they'd have enough money to buy the second car they've wanted for the past month.
"Yes, Steve, I am sure," Jonathan replies before letting his eyes trail down to the peacefully asleep baby in his arms. All it takes is one look for Jonathan to know it is the right baby. "Yeah, it's the right one. It's our daughter, alright."
Steve hums while stopping at a red light. He turns around to examine the baby in Jonathan's arms. He trusts Jonathan's words, but Steve still wants to be 100% sure. It's better not to take risks.
"Yeah, it's the right one. Phew," Steve breathed a sigh of relief after watching the baby, making Jonathan roll his eyes (again).
"I told you they gave us the right baby, Steve. Do you think the adoption agency would mix the kids?"
"Hey, you can't never be too sure. Have you not heard the news from yesterday? About the Hospital screwing up and mixing two kids and giving them to the wrong parents?"
"That rarely happens, babe," Jonathan argues, carefully adjusting his arms to guarantee the baby is secured and comfortable in his embrace, unable to prevent a small, happy smile from creeping into his lips. It's impossible not to smile at seeing this adorable baby being so, well, adorable. "Besides, this one is our baby."
"Yeah," Steve smiles as well, his right hand gently caressing the baby's cheek. "She is our baby."
Both men smile at seeing their daughter in Jonathan's arms, snuggling closer to him while still asleep. Steve's eyes meet Jonathan's, silently conversing about how beautiful she is and how lucky they are to have her in their lives now. A tender moment that is interrupted by the car behind them honking loudly.
"ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, I'M GOING!" Steve yells while sticking his head out the window, showing them the middle finger. "Gee, what a shit-eating fucker—"
"Steve," Jonathan admonishes him. He fears Steve's lack of a baby filter will result in their daughter learning to curse before anything else. "Language, please."
"Sorry, Jon..." Steve silently replies, focusing on the road. "But you saw how that dumbass honked at me, right? What a motherf—"
"Steven," Jonathan chastises him again, more firmly this time. He eyes the baby for a quick second, wanting to make sure the car honking and Steve's yelling didn't wake her up, but thankfully, the little girl remains asleep, unbothered by the noises from the outside world - gee, she's more of a heavy sleeper than Steve is. Jonathan sighs again before turning to his husband. "Just... Try to control your mouth, okay? Rule number three, remember? Don't—"
"'Don't curse in front of our baby.' Yeah, yeah, I know. I'll keep my sailor mouth in check. Promise." He makes a quick scout's promise hand gesture, making Jonathan chuckle in appreciation and amusement.
Steve turns around a corner, their house now in view. He parks the car in the driveway, turns off the engine, and steps out, opening the door for Jonathan to get out. Jonathan was going to tell Steve to grab the baby's bag, but Steve had other plans in mind. He extends his arms to the baby instead, claiming Jonathan's held for long enough, and now it's his turn. Jonathan was going to complain about not having the baby in his arms anymore, but the sight of Steve gently cradling her in his arms promptly shut him up. Steve opens the front door and enters the house, with Jonathan right behind him, carrying the baby's bag.
"Welcome home, baby! Here is the living room, where we watch funny series and films on the TV. Over there is the dining room. We only use it for fancy dinners with our friends and family. And the room right next to it is the kitchen, where your daddies make food," Steve points to each room he's referencing as if the baby's paying attention and not sleeping like a rock in his arms. "Oh, right, introductions! I'm your daddy Steve, and that handsome man over there is your daddy Jonathan!"
Steve points at himself and Jonathan with his classic Harrington charming smile. Jonathan chuckles at his antics and at being complimented. He approaches his husband and their daughter and gently pats her head, smiling at seeing the baby leaning her head against Steve's chest.
"Let's put her to sleep in her crib, Stevie."
Steve nods at him and heads towards the stairs to the baby's new room, Jonathan right behind him. Steve makes a 360 once entering the baby's nursery, pointing at the yellow-colored walls, plush toys, furniture, and the white crib.
"Alright, baby, this is your room. Your Uncle Will and Uncle Mike helped paint the walls. Your Aunt El picked the curtains, and Grandpa Jim assembled your dresser and changer, but he couldn't build the crib, so we asked your Grandma Joyce for help. And your daddies picked everything and paid for everything, too. So don't you forget that, alright?"
"Are you done showing her every tiny detail of the house, babe?" Jonathan chimes in. His arms crossed, and looking at Steve with a teasing grin and a raised eyebrow, making his husband playfully scoff in response.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm done showing her the house." Steve approaches the white crib and gently places the baby down, tucking her under a soft blanket, while Jonathan grabs a plush bunny from the nearby shelf and puts it next to her, watching with a warm smile as the little girl wraps her tiny arms around it.
"Sweet dreams, baby," Steve says softly, not wanting to wake her up while adjusting the blanket around her, assuring it is not too tight or too loose.
Jonathan watches their baby daughter sound asleep in her crib, leaning down to kiss her forehead.
"Sweet dreams, Elizabeth."

The party, of course, immediately accepted Will and Robin when they came out. Dustin couldn't help but ask the question because he's a nosy little shit.
Dustin: *looking at Robin* If you had to pick a man, though, who would you go for?
Robin: Steve. No contest. Only in a parallel universe, though. And parallel me still has to like women. There's no universe where I'm straight. Not that I have anything against heterosexuality.
Steve: Eddie. *everyone stares at him* Oh, was that question not directed at both of us?
Eddie: It's okay, big boy. If I were gay, I'd go for you, too.
Argyle: *whispering* Oh, man, Steve and Eddie don't know about bisexuality.
Steve: You whispered that to me.
Argyle: Oh, sorry. *turns to Jonathan* Oh, man, Steve and Eddie don't know that bisexuality exists.

You know what would be hilarious?
Steve announces to The Party that he’s bi and that he’s dating Eddie, and only then does Jonathan realize that he’s also bi.
Followed by the realization that he likes Steve.
Followed then by the admission that he wants to date Steve.
Followed immediately by the decision that he’s going to steal Eddie’s boyfriend.
Mr Jonathan ‘Steal Your Girl’ Byers starts wanting to hang out with Steve, and Steve is a little confused about it but also thrilled because, god. He needs more friends. Eddie, on the other hand, is like, what the fuck.

Saw a post about kids of rich parents being able to pursue art cuz they don’t have to worry about money and it got me thinking…
Steve is an abstract artist he’s not like world renowned, but his work is in galleries and shared by niche art blogs.
Eddie who fucking hates abstract art shit talking him to Will not knowing that Will, despite being a more traditional artist, personally knows Steve and love his art. And Steve is so supportive of him being an artist, too.
So instead of saying anything Will invites him to gallery where one of his pieces will be displayed at, and personally introduces Eddie to Steve like,
“This is Steve, he’s the artist that you said is probably actually three toddlers in a trench coat. :) have fun.” Then goes off on his own to browse through the other art works because he’s actually such a little shit.

Hopper accidentally becomes the biggest ally in Hawkins out of hatred for Mike Wheeler. El wants to date Max? Perfect, Mike is terrified of Max. El wants to date Max and Lucas? Even better, more people to keep Mike away. Will comes out to Joyce and Hop? Hopper is immediately studying up on gay culture and flagging so he can find him a Hop ApprovedTM boyfriend. He sees that nice boy Gareth cuff his jeans one time and starts inviting him to family dinner. Mike seems annoyed that Steve is spending more time with Munson? A pamphlet titled “Accepting your Bisexuality” finds its way into Steve’s jacket pocket. Hopper has never seen Mike as furious as the day Steve and Munson arrive at dinner holding hands. It’s a good day. Hopper isn’t sure how Nancy dating the Buckley girl will annoy Mike, but he’s willing to give it a shot.

Give me good at math Steve. Maybe he’s dyslexic and words never made sense and always swam away from him, but numbers? He can memorize formulas, he can recognize patterns.
I feel like it would add so much dimension to his character. I always like it in fic when they write Steve knowing a second language, or playing an instrument because I feel like the fandom has taken this idea that Steve is incompetent and ran with it. He’s incredibly clever, and sarcastic (a sign of intelligence btw), and snarky. He thinks quickly, is it well thought out? Not always, but that’s just his lack of self preservation skills. People can be smart and idiots at the same time, they can have their strengths and I wish that was portrayed more in fic and fandom.
So let him be good at math. Let him just be able to make sense of it. Show him tutoring El and assisting Lucas and Max when Mike and Dustin seem too condescending or intimidating or bitchy.
He’ll be bitchy too, but in an understanding way, because he knows what it’s like to struggle with something others find simple.
Also give us a scene where Mike or Dustin find out and flip their lids PLEASE

Having thoughts of The Party being touchy as all fuck after everything.
Like you cannot enter nor leave any kind of hang out without a hug, high-five, pat, or anything from everyone you were hanging out with.
And then, suddenly, you aren’t able to leave without a kiss or hug of some kind from Steve.
It started after the bullshit that was the Starcourt Mall. The kids were leaving Steve’s house from a DnD session maybe 2 months before the Byers left for Cali.
Dustin was taking forever to pull his shoes on and get out the house to his moms car and everyone was complaining. It was one of those rare times where Steve wasn’t the one carting them all around— they all had their own rides.
Dustin got his shoes on and Steve handed him his bag and— without thinking— pressed a kiss to the top of his hat before waving him out the door.
The rest of the kids are silent until Mike speaks up bitchily “what about us, asshole?”
Steve has no idea what they mean until El points to her head with a grin. Steve deals out head and forehead kisses for everyone and waves them off to their respective rides.
And then it just— sticks. At first it’s with just the kids whenever he sees them. He’ll usually greet them with a hug or an exasperated sigh and then say goodbye with a kiss to their foreheads.
Not even Mike complains. This is the kind of shit he never got while growing up— might as well make the best of it.
And then it migrates to Robin as well, and the Nancy is joining in on the hugs (they’re still too awkward for the kisses but the hugs are enough for now).
And Steve never holds back, not even in public. Again, no one complains.
And that’s how Hellfire finds out about the kissing arrangement (that might be the title of this if I make it an actual fic). They watch as Steve presses a forehead kiss to Mike, Lucas, and Dustin before waving them off and then presses a kiss to Max’s head and giving her a tight hug.
The guys try to make fun of the kids for it but none of them are embarrassed.
“It’s Steve, dude. He’s like a mom.”
“The kisses are actually really comforting.”
“It’s a Party thing.”
And then the fuckery of 1986 and Vecna happens and suddenly Eddie’s in on the hugs and pats and high-fives.
And then.
And then.
He’s in on the kisses.
Steve doles out the kisses like usual one night after Hellfire and gives one to everyone— including Eddie.
And Eddie panics and gives Steve one right back.
And then the kids are going feral about wanting to give Steve a kiss too.
And Eddie leaves during the chaos.
And then they don’t talk about it.
Until Steve and Eddie do it again.
And the kids accept is as the new normal; you have to give Steve a kiss back.
And then Steve and Eddie have an excuse to kiss each other on the foreheads and cheeks and noses.
One night they’re hanging out, just the two of them at the trailer after Wayne left for work.
Steve had greeted Eddie with a tight hug the moment he’d gotten in the trailer. Eddie had squeezed back just as tight if not tighter.
Steve was getting ready to leave, and on instinct leant in to kiss Eddie, but Eddie was also leaning in to kiss Steve. So they meet in the middle and accidentally kiss on the lips.
And then the new normal for Steve and Eddie is kissing on the lips goodbye.
Idk, just Steve being a very touchy feely person makes me so happy
