"Let's see.. maybe I can leave these here?" approaching the gift table for the newlyweds, Lloyd placed down a neatly wrapped box; cool black wrapping paper paired with a red bow. He couldn't take credit for how nicely it looked, though-- that would have been Zelos' doing.

Under the paper was a handmade wooden box; the names of the couple, as well as the date of their wedding, carved into the smooth surface. And even if they probably could have used them sooner, inside of that were two pairs of cufflinks; black feathers and red roses etched onto the silver of the metal. There was a small card attached, as well, which had a simple message of "Congratulations you two! We wish you all the happiness in the world. - Lloyd Irving and Zelos Wilder" written inside.

He would have been happy to give them to Vash personally, but looking at the two on the dance floor was enough to tell Lloyd to leave them alone. He smiled gently, overjoyed to see so much love in front of him; and honoured he could be apart of it in some small way.

"I hope you two have the happiest life you could have together," he mumbled to himself, running a finger over his own ring as he left the gift behind.

Five years ago today, I was lying on the couch in my family home, watching the words of a person I had grown to find pieces of myself in as he bared his soul to the world just to make somebody like me feel a little less alone.

He said something at the end of that video,

And I’ll never forget hearing those words. Never forget drying my tears, quickly, before my parents came back.

See, the girl on that couch was planning far, far away futures. She couldn’t believe his words just yet, but now she could hope to.

Five years later, today, I wish I could tell her:

You don’t have to move halfway across the country to set a flag out on your desk.

Your parents are coming over tomorrow to help bring you home for the summer. (They’re only an hour’s car ride away.)
