"When Newsom gets old, she wants to become even weirder than she already is. She already counts bird watching, interior design, and furniture design as three of her hobbies, and plans to add wearing “kaftans galore” to her list of old lady aspirations."
Happy Birthday to the one and only Joanna Newsom! 🥳💐🥳

The Newsreader Turns Three Years Old! 💖
In the morning, it will have been three years since The Newsreader first aired on the ABC, on the 15th August 2021!
Since that day in 2021, we all found this show at various points along the way, and we have created this beautiful community around it across many platforms. As much as this is a day of celebrating what the cast and crew have put together, it is a day for us too, because we’ve kept The Newsreader’s online conversation going even when the media have stopped covering it. We’ve made it the cult hit it has become.
For me personally, I’ll forever be grateful to this show for coming into my life at the moment it did. From rescuing my sense of boredom during lockdown, to helping me grow into the person I’m meant to become, and for giving me creative opportunities that I could have never dreamed of, the past three years have been an incredible creative ride. The 15th August will always be a special day to me, to celebrate the piece of media that has changed my creative life. I am so grateful for the creative spirits behind it, the people in the fan community surrounding it, for nurturing my brain and helping me find my creative voice. It has meant so much joining the News At Six family.
I thank everyone who has contributed to this digital birthday presentation, for their words which demonstrates how much this show means to its viewers. I was in awe of everyone’s words and thoughts about what makes The Newsreader special to them. I’m proud of us all, and thrilled that we found a show which we feel at home in, especially those of us who feel different. There is a place for us after all, where we can feel loved just the way we are.
Happy Third Newsreader Anniversary, everyone, from News At Six 1986! 💖🌟📺📰

A Tale of Two Tonys
and Brian knows the difference 😉
Part One of Four
It was suggested elsewhere in July* Brian confuses the Tonys’ roles. Brian’s own posts say otherwise. 🙃 (*Waited for today’s Happy Birthday 🥳)
Tony the band manager ⬇️

Tony the music producer ⬇️

Here are some examples that dispute Brian confuses the Tonys’ roles. (Try to laugh with me. 😉)

The actress and her Scottish music producer husband tied the knot in August 2019, at St. Mary's Church in Bruton, Somerset, in the U.K. Much like their pregnancy news, the couple was discreet with their intimate nuptials.

Remember… he’s not a music producer, by the way. I just have to do this... He really hates this because he manages bands. He's in artist management. One person wrote it and now everybody does. — Caitríona Balfe
Later edit: “Waited for today’s Happy Birthday” in the first paragraph should say “yesterday’s.” The birthday is 12 October. I got busy, posted late, and forgot to update. Oops… (This bit won’t show up on reblogs posted before 19 October 2024.)

May Prompts (30) Journey
The Luckiest Girl in the World (chapter 30)
Summary: Rosie struggles a bit during her pregnancy. Thinking about her own mother only makes her nauseous, and not because of morning sickness. A solution is found and nature does the rest.
Thirty Years Old
Of course, we were at Baker Street the first time the baby kicked. Not surprising since we lived there, it was the occasion rather, Timothy’s birthday. Dad and Papa came up from Sussex to celebrate with us, and the moment I hugged Dad, a violent kick made me wince.
“What’s the matter, sweetheart?” Dad asked worried.
“The baby,” I whispered. “It kicked. For the first time.”
Dad beamed at me, as if it was his presence that elicited this action. Papa looked proudly at him, and I just knew that this baby would be spoiled beyond belief. My parents were already besotted. Not that Marie and Daniel were less excited, but they’d been through this four times already.
***
The evidence of my pregnancy with my growing belly, didn’t stop me from marvelling in the craziness of it all. Every now and again the thought hit me: you’re having a baby!
Another thing that haunted me occasionally was the thought of my mother. How had she felt about being pregnant with a man that abandoned her? Not that I blamed Dad one bit. She had almost killed Papa, which still made me nauseous, and it stung my heart. Sometimes I was filled with rage aimed at the woman who I’d been inside for nine months. Other times, I pondered if she’d planned it all to end like it did. To save Papa’s life, sacrificing herself. The thoughts were fruitless of course, and for my own sanity, I managed to stop before I was overwhelmed with the need to know.
There was no secret that both my parents had gone to therapy before and after the Eurus business, and Dad suggested that I try it too, to get some tools to cope when the emotions got the better of me. I did, and it helped.
***
Nature is a wonderful thing. After months of discomfort and hours of agony in labour, all was forgotten once our little girl was laid on my chest. She was perfect, obviously. Brown strands of hair and dark eyes, the colour not yet established. The midwife took at photo of the three of us to send to our families in due course.
“Best not wait too long, or Sherlock might talk Greg into giving him access, the hour be damned,” Timothy quipped.
I sighed and kissed the wonder who slept peacefully, wrapped in soft blankets.
Once the nurse had cleaned me up and I got a room, I fed my daughter, which was an overwhelming experience, and I cried through the whole event. Timothy was a calming presence and burped her when she made it clear that she was full, thank you very much.
“Call them,” Timothy urged.
***
I was anxiously waiting for my first visitors the next day. The day before, or night actually, Papa had insisted on asking uncle Myc to send a car down to Sussex to pick them up and bring them to London asap since the last train had departed hours earlier. Both me and Dad called him childish, and he finally settled on visiting after breakfast the following day.
Papa was almost lost for words when he realised that we’d named our daughter after them. It took Dad a bit longer to grasp it, and they were both teary-eyed and quite soppy when they greeted Joanna Shirley for the first time. She clearly had a thing for Papa’s voice, just like I’d always had, because when she started to wail, he talked her through it, and she looked up at him with wide eyes.
Seeing Dad holding my daughter, while Papa encircled Dad’s shoulders, made me tear up again. I was so happy for that little person who had such wonderful people in her life, to spoil her rotten, but also to teach her obscure things, comfort her and support her for as long as they could. It was like seeing my own childhood unfold in front of me. The first years I didn’t remember, and I couldn’t wait to experience that, not to mention adding my uncles into the equation.
Speaking of…
***
The day I was released from the hospital, Timothy was oddly jittery when I asked if he’d made the last preparations for my return home with an infant.
“Of course,” he assured me.
He was a terrible liar, just like Dad.
It turned out that the forces of nature, which was The Fab Four, had taken matters into their own hands. Timothy had been in charge of making tea and ordering takeaway, while two men, I think you can guess who, did the physical work, while the brothers directed and supervised the remaking of my old room into an extraordinary nursery.
The white walls had been painted sunny yellow; the cot was the one we’d already received from my uncles, a pale green armchair stood in the corner, a bee plushie and Ted were placed on top of the duvet, and a white rug lay on the floor. Bee-patterned curtains, and my own bee-blanket, an oak bookshelf filled with my old books and some new ones, made the room feel welcoming.
“You’re all insane!” I scolded the proud foursome.
“Indeed,” uncle Myc agreed. “Nothing but the best is good enough for my grandniece.”
“And our granddaughter,” Dad and Papa said in unison.
Uncle Greg rolled his eyes at them, but he was unable to hide his pride and the love he felt for his abnormal family.
Also available on AO3
This whole chapter is a journey of its own, but also part of a bigger one, which has been a joy to share with you all.

Happy 90th Birthday Scottish actor David McCallum.
Born as David Keith McCallum, Jr on this day 19933 in Maryhill, Glasgow, the second of two sons of Dorothy Dorman, a cellist, and orchestral violinist David McCallum Sr. When he was three, his family moved to London for his father to play as concertmaster in the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Early in the Second World War, he was evacuated back to Scotland, where he lived with his mother at Gartocharn by Loch Lomond.
McCallum won a scholarship to University College School, a boys' independent school in Hampstead, London, where, encouraged by his parents to prepare for a career in music, he played the oboe.In 1946 he began doing boy voices for the BBC radio repertory company. Also involved in local amateur drama, at age 17, he appeared as Oberon in an open-air production of A Midsummer Night's Dream with the Play and Pageant Union. He left school at age 18 and was conscripted, joining the 3rd Battalion the Middlesex Regiment, which was seconded to the Royal West African Frontier Force. In March 1954 he was promoted to Lieutenant. After leaving the army he attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (also in London), where Joan Collins was a classmate.
David McCallum’s acting career has spanned six decades; however, these days he is best known for his starring role on the police procedural NCIS as medical examiner as Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard. I first really remember McCallum for his role in another US show, The Invisible Man which ran for 13 episodes in the 70's. McCallum by then was a veteran of many TV and Film roles, starting in the 50's including Our Mutual Friend and The Eustace Diamonds, in the 60's he was in several ITV Playhouse shows before moving across the Atlantic to take roles in The Outer Limits and his big break as Illya Kuryakin in several incantations of The Man from Uncle.
His most notable films were The Greatest Story Ever Told as
Judas Iscariot and of course Ashley-Pitt 'Dispersal' in The Great Escape.
As well as the aforementioned Invisible Man in the 70's he took time to pop back over to our shores to star in two quality series, as Flt. Lt. Simon Carter in Colditz and Alan Breck Stewart in an adaption of Robert Louis Stevenson's, Kidnapped.
The 80's saw him team up with the lovely Joanna Lumley in Sapphire & Steel and several guest roles in the likes of The A Team, Hart to Hart and Murder, She Wrote as well as a one off reprise of Illya in the TV movie The Return of the Man from U.N.C.L.E.: The Fifteen Years Later Affair.
The 90's saw David in Cluedo and Trainer on our TV screens over here and American science-fiction series VR-5 in the states..
During the last 20 years or so he has been in the kids TV show, Ben 10: Omniverse as the voice of Professor Paradox and of course Donald Horatio "Ducky" Mallard in over 350 episodes of the popular NCIS.
David has been married twice. He married his first wife Jill Ireland in 1957. They met on the set of the movie Hell Drivers. Together, they had two sons and a daughter, Paul, Jason and Valentine, with Jason being the only one who was adopted. In 1963, David introduced Jill to his co-star on The Great Escape, Charles Bronson, and she left David and married Charles in 1968. In 1967, David married Katherine Carpenter and they have two children together, a son Peter and a daughter, Sophie. He and Katherine currently live in New York.
In NCIS since 2018, Ducky, played by McCallum, has appeared in fewer episodes. avid McCallum explained that appearing in fewer episodes will allow him to see more of his family, which includes his wife, children, six grandsons, and their cat, Nickie. According to IMDB he has chalked up an amazing 457 appearances in the show, morethan anyother character in the series.

looking for a boyfriend (i see that)
a/n: happy national bf day to those who celebrate. somehow managed to squeeze this out before bedtime. hope yall enjoy ❤️
taglist: @raging-violets @ceruleanmusings @myloveforhergoeson @selangkir @daughter-of-melpomene @nolanhollogay @happinessismagicc
In all honesty, Olive didn’t think much about her social media posts. She used Scuttlebutter on occasion - mostly when the boys scuttled something, or when one of her favourite artists released a new album or announced a new tour.
Otherwise, honestly she had very little interest in social media. Especially compared to most girls her age.
But today was different. Today was National Boyfriend Day, at least according to her Instagram feed, and every girl she knew, seemed to be posting photos of them and their respective boyfriends onto the feed. Some of them had been only dating their boyfriends for a few months. Days even, in the Jennifers’ cases.
Her and Logan had been together for almost a year now. Was she supposed to post him? Was it written into the girlfriend handbook?
Why was this relationship shit so hard to figure out?
After the third time she sighed in a row, she decided that enough was enough. She picked her phone up again, swiping through her camera roll. She had a ton of photos of Logan. A mixture of selfies, candid photos of him hanging out, either at her apartment or in 2J. She even had a few baby pictures that Joanna, his mom had sent her for his birthday.
After scrolling for what felt like ages (she seriously needed to get rid of some of her memes that she had saved), Olive finally stopped. It was a candid photo she had taken of him almost a year ago, right before they had started dating.
They had been walking to Crystal Cove, after driving up there for a day trip. It had been just the two of them, and even looking at the photo, Olive could remember the feeling of nervousness that had bubbled up inside her when Logan had grabbed her hand and told her he had a surprise for her.
They had walked together on the boardwalk, and through an industrial complex before they made it to the beach. The sunlight had hit Logan at just the right angle as they got ready to cross the road. It looked like he had a halo around his head - fitting for him, she had thought to herself in the moment.
She’d quickly snapped the picture before they crossed the road and spent the rest of the evening at the beach, playing in the water and enjoying each other’s company.
Olive had almost kissed him again that night. But something in her gut told her to wait. And now, she was glad that she had.
She smiled, favouriting the image and going back to the Instagram app. She pressed on the plus button, switching into her Favourites folder, and selecting the photo.
She typed a quick caption, tagging Logan in the bottom right corner before setting her phone down on the table.
She didn’t need her relationship to be Instagram official. That wasn’t what brought her joy.
No. What brought her joy was her boyfriend. In all his nerdy, handsome self.
olive.pasq has posted on Instagram! Would you like to see?
