Since I live in Toronto and my rewatch of HANNIBAL has ignited a Fannibal fire within me I'm visiting some of the shooting locations. So far I've been to the ext for
*Francis Dollarhyde's house (Hamilton)
*Dr. Lecter's Office Baltimore (Toronto)
*Hannibal's House (Toronto)
Definitely going to go to more spots. Unfortunately the beautiful house that was used as Will Graham's home in Wolftrap was torn down due to real estate development in Pickering Ont where the house was located. A beautiful property lost to the greed of Ontario developers is not uncommon here, a sad turn of events for the family who were forced to vacate the property.

For centuries, the fastest way to send a message over a long distance was by homing pigeon. These birds carried news of a new pharaoh to all corners of ancient Egypt and relayed the results of the Olympics to the ancient Greeks. They were even one of the earliest forms of military communication, used during wars in the days of Julius Caesar and Hannibal.
Nowadays, pigeons still get to show off their skills in the sport of racing. Released in unfamiliar locations, they can find their way home from hundreds of miles away, flying at speeds up to 60 miles an hour. But they've long been replaced by advanced technology to communicate long distance, so you might be surprised to learn that they were still used by the military as late as the Second World War.
Unlike radio, messages sent by pigeon couldn't be overheard by enemy spies, and the birds often came through when technology didn't. One such hero was a bird called G.I. Joe, who saved the day for British troops when they occupied Colvi Vecchia, Italy, during World War II. The Germans had retreated unexpectedly, so the British moved in and tried to cancel the planned U.S. bombing of the city. But all their attempts to communicate failed — except for G.I. Joe, who arrived back at the air base just as the bombers were preparing to take off.
Although pigeons are born with the instinct to return to their home loft, making them effective messengers in wartime took special training. Most of the men who did this training have passed on, but filmmaker Alessandro Croseri captured the memories of some of them for a series of documentaries called The Pigeoneers.
For his first film, Croseri interviewed Col. Clifford A. Poutre, chief pigeoneer of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, before his death at the age of 103. Croseri says that Poutre "changed the whole attitude about how they were training the birds." During World War I, trainers thought the pigeons needed to be starved to make sure they'd return. In contrast, said Croseri, Poutre believed "it's all about kindness and love."
With this positive approach, the pigeons were trained to perform remarkable feats, sometimes at odds with their natural tendencies. One was flying at night. "The German snipers were looking for the birds — they would shoot them down," says Croseri. Night flying made it harder for snipers, but for a daytime bird like the pigeon, it's quite unnatural. The pigeoneers made it possible by training the birds to a route during the day and then patiently retraining the same route at night.
Pigeons were also trained to fly over open water — a natural skill for a gull or an albatross, but something a pigeon would never do on its own. This skill allowed pigeons to be carried on planes and used to communicate the location of a downed crew when other means of communication were destroyed.
Perhaps most amazing is that some pigeons were trained to return to new places so they could be used in different locations. Normally, the loft a pigeon is trained to when it's young is where it will return for the rest of its life. "The terminology in pigeon lingo is we say you 'make him stick,' which means you're training him to a new location and they're not going back to the old location," says Croseri, "which is usually a very difficult thing to do because their homing instinct is to go back to the place they were trained originally." But at least some birds learned to do this, including the famous G.I. Joe, who delivered messages for the troops in several places including Tunisia and Italy.
Some pigeons were also trained to mobile lofts that could be moved along with the changing location of the front lines. "They would move the loft…in a straight line every day for a mile, up to 25 miles," says Croseri. "They told me the birds were extraordinary. They were sticking to the lofts immediately."
Swift, loyal, intelligent, indefatigable; devoted parents and loving mates; the bravest and most masterful navigators of the animal kingdom. Dogs may receive the formal honor of Man’s Best Friend, but next time you see a humble city pigeon scavenging along the sidewalks, remember that he (or she) is Man’s Unsung Hero.

Denzel Washington being cast in Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming Netflix movie as ancient Carthaginian general Hannibal is sparking some controversy in Tunisia, the home country of the great military commander.
According to French newspaper Courrier International, there are complaints about depicting the Carthaginian general as a Black African being made in the media and the Tunisian parliament. Member of Parliament Yassine Mami has pointed out that Hannibal, who was born in 247 BC in Carthage — now known as Tunis, the Tunisian capital — was of West Asian Semitic origin. “There is a risk of falsifying history: we need to take position on this subject,” the Tunisian politician reportedly stated.
Concurrently, French-language Tunisian newspaper La Presse has published an editorial in which it similarly objects that depicting Hannibal as a Black African is “according to Tunisians and many observers, a historical error.”
However, Tunisian culture minister Hayet Ketat-Guermazi had a different, more pragmatic take on the matter.
“It’s fiction. It is their [Netflix‘s] right to do what they want,” she responded, according to French newspaper Le Monde. “Hannibal is a historical figure and we are all proud that he was Tunisian. But what can we do?” She went on to note that she is trying to negotiate with Netflix to shoot at least a portion of the film in Tunisia. “I hope they decide to shoot at least a sequence of the film here and that that this is publicized. We want Tunisia to go back to being a location where foreign films are shot,” Ketat-Guermazi said, as reported by Le Monde.
Representatives for Netflix, Washington and Fuqua did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
The controversy in Tunisia over Washington playing Hannibal is reminiscent of the uproar sparked in Egypt in April over Britain’s Adele James, who is of mixed heritage, playing Cleopatra in Netflix’s docudrama “Queen Cleopatra.” The first-century Egyptian queen was born in the Egyptian city of Alexandria in 69 BC and belonged to a Greek-speaking dynasty. Egyptian academics went on a rampage over the fact that Cleopatra was of European descent and not Black.
The still-untitled film about the Carthaginian general will be written by John Logan, the three-time Academy Award winner who scribed Martin Scorsese’s “The Aviator” and Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator.”
According to the official logline, the movie is “based on real-life warrior Hannibal, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest military commanders in history. The film covers the pivotal battles he led against the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War.”
Hannibal invaded Italy while riding a Northern African war elephant. Under his lead, the Carthaginians won key victories against the Romans, allowing Hannibal to occupy the majority of southern Italy for 15 years. Eventually, Hannibal was defeated by the Romans at the Battle of Zama after they counter-invaded North Africa.
Fuqua most recently directed Washington in the action-thriller “The Equalizer 3,” in which Washington reprised his role as ex-Marine Robert McCall.
Washington is currently involved in another war epic, the upcoming sequel to Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator,” which has resumed shooting in Malta after production was halted due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. _______________
Netflix is at it again i see.

Roleplay Ad
Update: Due to not wanting to overwhelm myself. While also providing my current rp partners with quality and relatively consistent rp, my request for rp partners is currently closed! Still feel free to reach out if you like and I'll keep you in mind for if things open up.
Ah, hello Tumblr roleplayers, it has been a while! I am one of many who was left adrift after Omegle shut down and am on the search for rp partners.
I am looking for rp partners in a variety of fandoms, genres, ships, etc. I’ll have all of them listed in a hopefully organized manner below and will do my best to keep this list accurate. If you’re interested, feel free to shoot me a DM or interact with this post and I’ll reach out to you. But please do read through this post fully before doing so, thanks!
A Little About Myself:
-Age: 20+
-Pronouns: She/They
-Experience: I’ve been roleplaying off and on in a variety of fandoms and styles for around 10+ years
What I’m Looking For In A Roleplay Partner:
-Age: Roleplayers who are at least 20+ as well
-Style: I’m open to a variety of styles, I roleplay everything from one sentence “text message” style to multi-paragraph advanced lit. Though my preferences tend to lean towards lit/advanced lit.
-Location: I’d prefer someone who’s comfortable transitioning to Discord, once we agree on what we want to rp
-Expectations: One of the things I loved about Omegle were the casual vibes when it came to when an rp needed to end. So, while I hope for some long term rps, I’m looking for people who will be okay with rps ending when interest dissipates. Without the need for big explanations as to why. This goes both ways! I won’t expect such explanations from you either if we start any sort of storyline and you end up wanting to drop out. The way I see it, this is meant to be a fun pass time and ideally shouldn’t feel like a stressful obligation for either of us.

J2 Gold Panel Nolacon 2023
We start off the panel with Jensen making a dirty joke because the stage reminds him of a lecture hall. It goes: A sex education professor comes into his lecture hall, he’s carrying a banana, and he says today class I’m going to teach you how to put on a condom. I have this banana here because I have a hard time getting an erection on an empty stomach. 🤦♀️ This makes Jared laugh and come up with his own joke: Did you hear about the serial killer professor? He always gave a Hannibal lecture. I can’t with these men, let’s get into questions.
Jared is asked about his ACL surgery, he hasn't gotten it yet but says he needs it at which point Jensen makes a knee pun. Jared’s brother has been helping him, and he does need surgery but it's a 4 to 6-month recovery period so until they find out about Walker he can’t risk doing it because he doesn’t want to do it and then get the call that they’re ready for him to film when he can’t move. Unless the season is gonna come back to Walker in the office playing wordle which sends them into a little sidetrack because Jensen mentions he got the wordle of the day in two so Jared asks him if he saw the hat picture at 2:30am he sent to the wordle group that they have, and Jared is so cute because he wants Jensen to look at it at that moment, it was something that had made him laugh but Jensen doesn't have his phone on him but after Jared explained it to him he did remember seeing it. It was just a little moment but I found it cute. Back to Jared's ACL, he’s hoping to rehab it and his brother thinks that maybe if he gets some intense physical therapy he might be able to avoid surgery.
So when the fan was asking Jared about his knee they said that family should not help you in situations like that meaning if you have a family member whose a doctor they shouldn’t be the one treating you, and Jensen asks why, and says Jared’s doctor is one of the best orthopedic surgeons in Austin. Jared answers that he has asked his brother about this and explains why, for those that don't know, it’s because it's a conflict of interest. Because if you're treating a loved one there's an emotional investment that makes it difficult to be objective, and doctors and surgeons have to be objective in order to do what is best for their patients. x
Jared says some dad jokes, so Jensen mentions that he started watching The Last of Us, and the young girl, Ellie, has a dad joke book and when she says one of the jokes and it cuts to Pedro Pascal's character, Joel, going god, that's so stupid, and it makes him think of Jared 😂 That one of the jokes that got to him was: did you hear diarrhea is hereditary? It runs in your jeans.
Jared makes another joke: sex is hereditary if your parents didn’t have it you probably won’t either. I'll admit that one got a chuckle out of me. x
Continuing with the questions did they steal anything from the set? Jensen says some things may have made their way into his suitcase. Jared replies that a few times when it was their last day shooting at a specific location for example Bobby’s house, there was a bronze owl paperweight and he wanted it so when it was their last day on that set it “got lost” and then after they said that’s a wrap he went back in to see if there was anything else he wanted to take or wanted to help find a happy home and Jim Beaver was in there and told him he was looking for the owl paperweight so Jared went back and gave it to him. Jensen shares that Jared has the cap of the steering wheel of the Impala that got totaled at the end of s1, that Jared just popped it off, put it in his pocket and it was never seen again. And when he's saying this there's a little in sync moment between the boys: x
Jared says they got some stuff and there were things they wanted but understood they might need for a reshoot but the set dec, props, and wardrobe would do them the solid of checking with WB if they would ever use something again so for example Jared has his white Lucifer suit and au!Sam's purple outfit, Jensen has the lederhosen and the duster from the western episode and he also has the OG Samulet, the original heavy metal one that would try to chip his tooth. Jensen says that one had gotten retired because it was so heavy and dangerous, so they did a mold of it and cast replicas in a lighter metal. But he took home the OG one, and actually included it in the Winchesters pilot. x
The next fan just wants to let them know that fans would love for a picture of them in the Bridge scene to be included in the stuff that is auctioned by Creation. Jensen mentions that scene was an alternate ending because of covid so he's glad that it worked so well. x
There's a character in Days of Our Lives called Marlena that gets possessed, and Jensen was in Days of Our Lives, does he think Dean would have been able to exorcize Marlena? Jensen answers that he believes the priest on that show is Jim Beaver so he should have been handling this a long time ago (that character has gotten possessed more than once). That it would have been interesting to see Dean show up and yeah it’s something the brothers could have knocked out in a weekend. x
When is Jensen going to play Batman? And was it liberating to play Soldier Boy? Jensen doesn’t think you’ll ever hear any actor complaining about playing the bad guy because it is a lot of fun. He says that if you ask Jared what one of his favorite versions of Sam is in SPN he’ll say soulless!Sam because when you get to play the bad guy it’s honestly more cathartic cause Jared is a really good guy in real life so when you get to find your inner asshole it can be cathartic. That Soldier Boy was a lot of fun, and the interesting thing, and he loves talking about this because people will ask how he could play such a horrible character and how did he prepare for it, the thing is Solder Boy doesn’t think he’s horrible, he’s the hero of his own story.
And that’s something he took from Lee Marvin who answered years ago when asked why he made a career playing bad guys that he’s never played a bad guy in his life. And he thinks if you look at it through that lens it makes a whole lot more sense, Soldier Boy doesn’t think he’s a bad guy he thinks everyone else is in the wrong so that makes for really layered character work, and scene work, it was a lot of fun not to mention the way it was written and the way he related to the other cast memebers and characters on the show.
Asked if he got to improve any of it, he answers that yes. He gives as an example that Soldier Boy pops up for a brief moment on the new spinoff and his little bit was heavily improved. He had Kripke with him on set that day so they were spitballing ideas and coming up with different takes that it's a lot of fun to work at that level with that kind of mind that can throw something out and you're like 'oh! okay I'm gonna do that one' so it's a beautiful collab on that set much like SPN and that’s a testament to Kripke and the kind of worlds he builds and the type of people he puts in them. As for the Batman thing, he doesn’t know but if he gets the phone call he’s in. x
What is something they learned while working on SPN that they’ve since applied to their future projects? They’re kind of struggling to answer and Jared starts to try but he's having trouble so Jensen steps in to give him more time to think. And he answers confidence. Confidence on set, in front of a camera no matter who he is working with says that if he didn’t have the ten thousand hours that he had playing Dean he doesn’t think he would have the confidence he has now to go to a completely foreign set like The Boys or Big Sky or a movie set. He gives as an example when he was on Rust and working alongside Alec Baldwin, who is a legend in the entertainment industry, and shares that there was a moment on set where Baldwin dropped the line and got really upset and was screaming what’s the line and Jensen was just like holding up his phone going this is cool but he thinks had he not gone through what he went through with SPN that would have shook him a bit; he has a certain confidence, not arrogance but confidence that helps him do what he needs to do and that’s something he learned and earned on SPN.
Jared seconds that, and in his head went slightly different the fan asked about projects but he'll say life in general, he’s had a lot of highs and lows in his life and it doesn’t have to be something mental it can just be that he’s tired or physically beat down. They had a great time on SPN but there were times that just sucked like it being 5am and having to do a two-page emotional scene and having only an hour to film because the sun is coming up and just wanting the day to be over those were the days they’d get home and take a shower and get in bed and realize that it felt really good, so just realize there's another side of it. There’s a saying he likes: no feeling is final. When you're feeling beat down whether physically or mentally there's another side to that, you can get through that and he thinks SPN helped get that into him. x
Did Jared have fun doing his Walker Independence cameo, and are we going to see more of that? Jared replies that he had an amazing time there, it’s an amazing cast and crew that build a family over there in Santa Fe and he had a lot of fun. That he was riding horses in between takes and horsing around, and he has an absolute blast on Walker; he hopes he gets the chance to go back to Walker Independence and hopes the show comes back, he thinks if they were shooting in the same place he would have done it more often. x
Favorite song on SPN outside of Carry On? Jared says he will probably forever love Renegade by Styx (saaaame!) and Space Oddity by David Bowie that those two music cues he’s watched more than a lot of the other clips of SPN he’s watched. Jensen says Eye of the Tiger but he'll also throw in Night Moves by Bob Seger. x
And that marks the end of the panel and as they walk away there's a mini butt pat! x

What is cinematography? Hannibal edition
We know Hannibal often gets cited for its beautiful cinematography. But what does that mean, exactly?
If we talk about the cinematography of an episode, we're talking about the decisions that went into making each shot and scene and episode look just right. It's helpful to remember that at its most basic level, film (or television) is just about using some sort of camera equipment to photograph light. And when you do that, there are a ton of variables affecting the way that recorded light is going to look when you play it back.
Hannibal gets it.
Cinematography means: "We've got these amazing actors performing this great story in this scenic location, now how do we light and photograph all this stuff so that it looks exactly the way we want?"
And this is super important, because of course, the way a scene or shot looks is going to deeply affect what it makes us think and feel.
Elements of cinematography:
Lighting
Types of cameras and lenses, and how you use them
Shot distance (how close you place the camera for each shot)
Shot composition (figuring out where to place everything in each shot, including actors)
Use of color, brightness, shadow, contrast (very important in a "dark" show like this)
Camera movement
Camera angles
Depth of focus (do we want to clearly see everything that's in the shot? or do we want to have things in focus and others out of focus? should the focus change during the shot or stay the same?)
So really, when we say that a show has beautiful cinematography, we more or less mean that the way it's shot is beautiful, striking, evocative. We can tell that someone didn't just throw on some basic flat network procedural lighting and shoot from all the conventional angles. They put thought and style into it.
What does a cinematographer actually do?
The cinematographer is also called the director of photography (DP). They work closely with the director, workshopping their vision with them. They're in charge of both the camera crew and the lighting crew, deciding what they should do to make every scene look exactly the way it should. They read the script ahead of time, and they visit sets and locations before shooting to plan how they're going to tackle the look of each scene.
Director of photography might sound like kind of a secondary position, but not really! It's incredibly important. Hannibal had the same cinematographer, James Hawkinson, working on almost every single episode. This isn't always the case in television, so I think we're very lucky that he was such a consistent part of the artistic process.
Hawkinson dropping that DP wisdom in the season 2 DVD extras.
Check out this interview, in which Bryan Fuller explains how when he saw Hawkinson's cinematography in action, he changed his whole approach to writing the series:
Hawkinson’s cinematography helped elevate the network show into one of the most visually exciting series ever produced for any platform. [...] Bryan Fuller and his staff had written five episodes that tried to toe the tricky line between Thomas Harris’ Hannibal Lecter novels and the structured storytelling of a network investigative procedural. “I remember leaving the edit session where we’d seen the first cut [of the pilot] and I was like, ‘We’re doing the wrong show,” said Fuller in an interview with IndieWire. “When I saw David Slade and Jim Hawkinson’s work, and really understood the artful piece that they were able to conjure for what we had, I threw out the scripts.”
I mean, this says a lot, right? Fuller is saying that he completely rewrote the beginning of the first season, in part because Hawkinson's photography on the pilot made him realize they had the chance to reach for something deeper, something more artistic than he'd thought possible.
Gorgeous moody lighting and photography from the very first episode.
With new directors working on the show from week to week, and Hawkinson needing to work closely with each of them, it became part of his job to make sure they were on the right wavelength with show's vision. He talked in this interview about how he would sometimes need to "check" guest directors if their ideas didn't quite fit the Hannibal style:
There's times where I've been asked to do shots that I didn't feel were the show. And as the director of photography, keeping the aesthetics consistent from director to director, I have to protect and justify the aesthetics of the show. So that's kind of a torch that I kind of just bear, whatever director comes in. [...] Say someone has a vision of a dead person and I'll be asked by a guest director to put smoke and backlight. And I'll argue that ... as soon as you do it becomes hokey and it becomes a B-movie and it's cliché. So the horror in Hannibal is more based in some sort of reality. Yes it's heightened but ... there's nothing fantastical about it.
We can see here that Hawkinson knew the visual language of Hannibal inside and out, and he played a key part in keeping it so consistent and distinctive. The show became known for its evocative color palette, thoughtful shot compositions, and use of light and shadow -- all elements of cinematography. And as Hawkinson said, it was always important that the violence and death at the center of the show was photographed artistically, emotionally... even beautifully.
A horror image becomes moving and mysterious through cinematography.
Imagine how different this shot could have felt with a different quality of light. Or if we were looking from a different angle, or distance. Cinematography is all about making sure those elements are perfectly positioned, as much as possible, so that we see the show just the way its creative team hoped we would.

I love following a watsonian observation immediately with its doylist explanation.
Like, it's crazy that Will and Jack can stroll into Hannibal's house whenever. Do they have keys or what? Hannibal is a serial killer so why is he giving out keys to the FBI lol. They must be really close.
But also, it's 100% true that production simply didn't build a set beyond Hannibal's front door, so they could never film him opening it to let guests in without the hassle of a location shoot.

Hello folks,
I felt like making a pinned post that had some Good Info about yours truly.
Howdy, I'm Elliot/Stardust. My pronouns are He/They. I'm queer as hell. This blog is like, 99% Ghost (Mostly Copia since he is my everything).
I draw stuff sometimes. Mostly Ghost, again. I draw SFW and NSFW. Full, uncensored versions of my NSFW art can be located at Twitter @/GhoulNasty. If that doesn't work for you, just shoot me an ask and I can send you the file you wanna see.
I like to post art of my OCs, too. Predominantly my Ghost OC, Julian, or Nova Ghoul. He is my pride and joy and I love him more than anything else I've ever created. I ship him with Copia, and have been since 2018. They are my one and only real OTP.
Also, my personal headcanon for Copia is that he is Cis and Gay. That is how I will always depict him.
I don't have an art tag anymore, but most of my art can be found under the tag "The Band Ghost".
My tags for pics/gifs of Copia are "there he is, light of my life". I started that in 2018, so there's a ton in there. Other than that, what I tag is Hannibal as "Hannibal", posts about Tobias Forge as "Darling Man", and cool food as "Food".
I'm friendly, and don't mind getting sent asks or what have you. Thanks for checking out my majority-Ghost and other nonsense blog.
My main Twitter is @/StardustGhoul as well.

Israeli warcrimes unprecedented
Navi Pillay, the Chairperson of the inquiry and former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and a former judge of the High Court of South Africa, called the scale of Israeli war crimes “unprecedented.” She said that the commission has submitted 7,000 pieces of evidence to Karim Khan, the lead prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, who has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant of war crimes and crimes against humanity. The commission found that the Israeli military’s response to the October 7 attack was “significantly delayed and, in many places, totally inadequate.” This was despite the fact that the Israeli military was in possession of Hamas’s detailed battle plans for the attack. On the day of the attack, Israeli forces were deliberately withdrawn from the border. Once Israeli forces arrived, they began attacking Israeli hostages and other civilians. “The Commission documented a statement by an Israeli Security Force tank crew, confirming that the crew had applied the Hannibal Directive by shooting at a vehicle which they suspected was transporting abducted soldiers.” According to the report, “extermination; murder; gender persecution targeting Palestinian men and boys; forcible transfer; and torture and inhuman and cruel treatment were committed.” “This is the highest death toll ever in this protracted period of warfare…There must be accountability for every specific act of criminality” Commissioner Chris Sidoti The report noted that the massive civilian death toll is due to the fact that, in the words of the commission, the “Israeli government has given the IOF blanket authorisation to target civilian locations widely and indiscriminately.” The report found that Israel was responsible for crimes against humanity. The commission noted statements by Israeli authorities intending “to hold the population of the Gaza Strip hostage to achieve political and military objectives,” actions that aim to carry out “the collective punishment of the entire population for the actions of a few, a clear violation of international humanitarian law.” She added, “With this occupation, based on all the information we gathered, it’s pretty stark to us that there is a very clear intention of forcible displacement of people just to force them out.” Asked about the role of “third parties” such as the US in facilitating war crimes in Gaza, Pillay replied, “had it not been for the help of powerful countries, Israel would not have been able to carry out this perpetual occupation as aggressively as it has.” Pillay further asserted; “Nelson Mandela was classified as a terrorist, including by the United States until he was freed and they had to quickly lift that terrorist tag. So he could join the ticker-tape parade in New York’s streets, and everybody embraced him overnight as a freedom fighter. So one person’s freedom fighter could be another terrorist”

It feels quite perverse, how much they've got us to accept this stuff. Like oh, it would be unfair to expect the landscape shots to look as nice as those in Breaking Bad or Hannibal in this show which probably cost more than a season of both those put together.
And I don't think it's unfair to want something more visually interesting, even in terms of what they're just sticking in the backdrop. It's Star Wars, for goodness' sake. Striking locales is still a big part of the appeal in the book, comics and games. And this time we're in another Galaxy! I'm aware that I could sail across the Atlantic only to land in the cruddiest bit of the East Coast... but this is an adventure story. Indiana Jones went to dramatic locations for a reason.
And to head off a few takes I've seen, no it doesn't need to be strictly realistic. We're in a space fantasy show, in a franchise that busted out Cloud City on its second outing and has given us Mustafar, Felucia, Crait's red crystal tunnels and Planet X in various media.
Even then, they could've shot in the outdoors, somewhere on Earth, and got something that's cool to look at. Could've used Iceland again, or Norway (Zeffo was harsh, but it looked amazing). And as we know, they're mostly shooting on the Volume, which means they could use anything for the scenery. We could have a world stained with witch-light, where tumbled-down towers, even in their ruin, reach up to the strange constellations.
They could have put anything onscreen. They chose... that.
We really did cross the deepest void, the gulf between the very Galaxies, only to end up in a CGI rendition of South Wales.

FannibalFest 2017 Recap 3/3
Tour #2- Pic Heavy!
I wasn’t sure @fannibalfest-toronto could live up to how awesome their first tour was, with Will’s house and the TWOTL house (see it in my previous tour post), especially considering I live in downtown Toronto, but this tour was AMAZING!!!! :D So many great sites to be seen and the fannibal vibe was super fun :)
First stop was the barn where Hannibal kept Miriam Lass (or at least where he put her for Jack to find). Even though we couldn’t get inside, it felt super cool and creepy. This is one of the oldest barns in Ontario apparently, which (as a local) I thought was really cool!
Next up was the BHSCI and the Observatory! They happen to be REALLY close together...like, turn to the left from this pic and the telescope is right there ;P It’s the David Dunlop Observatory which, although it isn’t open anymore, it’s been given heritage status to protect it from developers ( a big problem around Toronto).
Hehe, the funniest thing about the two locations being so close to each other is imagining how far Will really needed to be taken to go see Bev’s body...seems like a lot of bondage effort when they could just walk him over there (Not that I blame them) ;P
AAAAAAAND We arrive at Hannibal’s office! I pass by hear all the time, but I have to say how amazing it was to experience it with a group of other Fannibals! I loved being able to squee with them and speculate how his office could be laid out inside :)
Lots more pics after the cut!
The front :)
Bonus pic from my archives so you can see it at night :)
Bonsoir! A Toronto hotel that doubled as a Paris Hotel that a leather clad Hannibal on a motorcycle pulled up in front of.
At Roy Thompson Hall... site of Tobias’s cello tableaux and the infamous Garret Jacob Hobbs slow clap. We recreated it to tweet at Vlad, and he retweeted it with happy comments :) Sorry for so few pics, we couldn’t take them of the stage.
The fountain that eventually caught burning Chilton... poor bastard #ChiltonDiesHard.
HANNIBAL’S HOUSE! Again, another one I go by fairly often, but so nice to flail around with fellow Fannibals!
Honey, we’re home! :)
Although the lighting is much different, Hannibal and Matthew Brown were here in some very tiny bathing suits! I can imagine Hannibal demanding the mood lighting or he wouldn’t swim there ;)
On to another Toronto landmark used as the Verger Estate...Casa Loma! These are the stables if you can believe it.
The birthplace of Marlana!!! <33333
Perhaps Mason just got finished wheeling Hannibal and Will upstairs!
The carriage house in the stables were where the pigs were in the show, and where Hannibal covered Will in his bodily fluids in will’s mind ;P (I told you I was a trash fire)
The conservatory ballroom where Hannibal and Bedelia danced in Italy! Also in Casa Loma. I wish Hannidoll could have dipped us all :P
Can you believe these chandeliers?! Antlers everywhere!
Bonus pics I took before the tour...the ballroom in the Royal York hotel is where Hannibal worked in Italy (and where Jack kicked his ass a second time)
And one more...Knox College is where Will displayed Randal Tyre’s body. Although the majority of stuff with Randall was shot at The Royal Ontario Museum, they wouldn’t allow the body display, so the production moved it to the front hall a college nearby.
OK! That’s it! I’m still totally overwhelmed by the stuff I haven’t mentioned, so if you have any other questions about the fest, feel free to send me an ask :) I have lots of stories.
Congratulations @fannibalfest-toronto on a truly amazing Convention! Here’s to one in 2018!

speaking of threesomes i'm perpetually fascinated by the script cuts to Hannibal 3x01 - the original sequence of plot events was something like "Dimmond smells a rat, confronts Bedelia about it on one of her little shopping trips, she confirms and asks him for help escaping her dangerous 'husband', he turns around and rats her betrayal out to Hannibal and suggests getting rid of her and becoming partners in crime, Hannibal stages the little scene at the apartment to play them off against each other"
which makes a lot of things about the episode make more sense, both in terms of cause-and-effect plot mechanics and in terms of character motivations, so i assume they cut it for logistical reasons related to the location shoot in Florence rather than pure preference for the Vibes-Based Logic of the final cut
and i think the thing i love MOST about the original plan is how crystal-clear it is that Dimmond thinks he's stumbled into the plot of The Talented Mr. Ripley about three-quarters of the way through, but has also either completely forgotten the ending or has the stones to think a few displays of charming amorality will change it
the thing i love the second-most is that it makes the whole end of the episode into "Hannibal is unimpressed by Bedelia's willingness to sell him out to get off the ride and happy to guilt-trip her about the results, but mostly he's INCANDESCENTLY FUCKING FURIOUS when his new not! Will boytoy proposes a spot of cold-blooded betrayal for fun and profit, and he may have overreacted a smidge and that may have been what flipped the switch from the between-seasons Rebound Era to season 3a's Post-Breakup Meltdown"
#'this hits me where it HURTS but also WILL would've at least had a REASON to--'#and now suddenly he's spiraling about Will's reasons and who betrayed whom and the heartbreak that inconveniently refuses to go away#hannibal#meta#hannibal scripts#antipasto#hannibal lecter#bedelia du maurier#antony dimmond

Israel created their own monster when they funded Hamas back in the day to use as leverage against the Palestinian Liberation Organization.
And yes, most of the time Israel is restrained in their reactions, but in this particular case, they are carpet bombing.
Let's not look at what Gaza, or Hamas, or Iran, or any of the media has said though. Let's instead take Israel's word. By their own word, they are committing war crimes.
Israel has, on numerous occasions since Oct 7, attacked protected sites, such as schools, hospitals, religious and historical sites, and civilian targets. This is a war crime, with one exception: if the targeted site is being used as a base of operations by enemy forces. Then, it's free game.
Israel has said several times that the targets they targeted were Hamas safehouses. Now I don't doubt that Hamas would use such sites, hoping that it would either make Israel hesitant to attack, or that it would make Israel look bad if they did attack. That said, it doesn't hold up logically.
First, I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt, and assume they've been able to actually confirm the presence of Hamas, despite not sending anyone in on the ground for several months after Oct 7. If that's the case, and every single one of the otherwise protected sites they've bombed "because Hamas was there", then explain all the other locations they've also bombed? Was Hamas the intentional and confirmed target of every bomb they dropped? Because they've dropped thousands at this point.
If every church, school, and hospital that Israel bombed in potential violation of war crime laws was hiding members of Hamas, then what is the point of also dropping bombs on the entire surrounding area? Especially when we've been told that Hamas has escape tunnels all over Gaza, so there's no way to tell where they've gone?
Why risk killing hundreds of civilians, when we've been told that Hamas forces the civilians to stay put so they'll be killed by the bombs, making Israel look bad? Who in their right mind shoots the hostage? Oh wait, Israel does. It's called the Hannibal Protocol.
And I'm curious how Israel defines "Members of Hamas"? I know our own government, during Iraq/Afghanistan war, would claim they killed [fill in the blank] enemy combatants every day, to show that they were winning the war on terror. Turns out, they were counting "enemy combatants" as any and all males of fighting age - so older than 14, 15. Probably younger than that even.
As for their endgame? Netanyahu has plans for Gaza. Did you know that Israel is planning to build a cannal from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, to compete with the Suez?
It's called the Ben Gurion cannal.
This map shows the proposed route of the cannal.
This is concept art from a PDF released by Netanyahu's office, outlining their proposal for the future of Gaza.
Notice the cannal going through the middle of the image? There is no waterway in the Gaza strip, natural or man made. So why would they choose this image to represent their plans? Seems rather deliberate, like they're trying to tell us something without actually telling us.
The map says one thing, the concept art says another.
I mean, going straight through Gaza, instead of around it would likely save them billions of dollars.
Oh, and in case anyone accuses me of getting this info from biased sources - directly from Jerusalem Post:
