Me and my big head… store bought handkerchief/bandanas are too small to tie securely and I don’t like using hair clips to keep them in place.

Solution? Make my own.

29” square, 100% cotton, double stitching on the hem. Doesn’t take long to make them, so any time I see a fabric I really like, I can get myself 3/4 of a meter and whip one out.

wip wednesday… an excerpt from the middle of where I’ve written to, two different POVs. Not proof read or edited yet. TW blood and weird thoughts about it that are really only going to get worse.

V:

He is greedy. It isn’t enough. He wants all, or nothing.

At every turn he denies himself. Invitations to dinner, for a drink, a conversation. He evades questions that are not related to their work. He balks at Jayce’s sentimentality. He shrinks away from his touch. Because he doesn’t just want whatever leftovers Jayce has to offer, after everyone else takes their share.

He wants it all, or nothing.

Viktor’s salvation as they reach the steps of the hall, is a bout of coughing that likely shakes the ground they’re standing on.

He feels mortified when his blood hits the snow, the same bright red as Jayce’s overcoat, right between their feet.

“I’m - sorry - Jayce.” He tries to regain authority of his airway. It’s a struggle but he manages.

Jayce places a steadying hand on his shoulder, and he can’t muster the desire to shake it off.

Jayce’s arm sheepishly moves forward, and it isn’t what Viktor expected. Well, to be fair he had no expectations, which made Jayce’s behavior all the more perplexing.

Neatly folded in his hand are a stack of handkerchiefs. Or are they pocket squares? They’re the same colour as Jayce’s coat. As his blood stains the frozen ground.

All at once it hits him, the morose, yet compassionate nature of the gesture.

He’s seen Viktor bolt from a room, or turn his body away, as he stains fingers or fabric with blood. He doesn’t seem to mind, if it’s just Jayce. But with others, he limps away like a wounded animal, he doesn’t want them to smell his weakness, or his fear.

Jayce unfurls one of the red squares of fabric, it dances in the evening breeze until he bunches it in his fingers. Perhaps Viktor has managed to alter time by sheer force of will, because it seems to slow.

Jayce brings the fabric to his chin, steadies his jaw with the other, and dabs at the droplets of blood that no doubt landed there.

Viktor’s fingers wrap around Jayce’s wrist, he isn’t sure if he wants to rip his hand away, or lean into the touch and let the heat bleed into his body.

He does neither, he just stands there. The intimacy of the gesture, and the gift, he is caught off guard and unarmed with a deflecting gesture or a terse comment.

J:

Though he realizes this is his choice, and one that Viktor cannot make for himself.

Viktor would be furious if he caught Jayce pitying him. So he buries the thought and continues making conversation.

Even though he’s aware of the pace in which they move, it all feels like it's happening too fast. It feels like a blur. It feels as though they arrive at the entrance far too soon.

The world spins even faster when Viktor is seized by a wet, barking cough. He should’ve handed him the contents of his pocket already. The whole point was to give the man some dignity.

But Jayce, paralyzed by fear of implication, just stands there and watches until Viktor’s teeth are slick with red. Until it drips from his gaping maw as he gasps for air.

As if on cue, his mind floods with familiar but unwelcome thoughts that make him feel sick with shame. About how pretty the colour looks against his pale skin. About sweeping his tongue through the taste of iron and copper. About how Jayce is the only one that gets to see him bleed.

Viktor is sick. But Jayce is sicker.

He doesn’t realize what he’s doing until Viktor’s icy fingers connect with his wrist.

He flinches, braces for a strike that never comes.

He expected punishment to be severe, for intruding like that. He needs to let go, he needs to stop touching. He needs to stop.

He feels like he’s a careening mine cart on a broken track. Until Mel Medarda’s voice brings it all to a halt.
