Do you know one of the reasons why CS is so shit? It's not just the rampant consumerism, dekudogging for $$$, and big-headed staff. It's because people have lost the concept of what makes a community and its relationships cohesive. They take and take and take and then moan when they're expected to give back to anyone but a friend or popular artist. They demand your time ("hey, look at this neat drawing I did/funny meme/my comm opening/etc!") but heaven forbid you want to see some reciprocation.

Sure, you don't owe anyone your time and shouldn't be forced to interact with one or more person(s) every time you see them if you don't want to. There are levels and balances to social interaction.

Emphasis on balance. You don't have to be an open or closed door. You can and should have office hours and days where you're more open to the public, so to speak.

You might say, "I'm curating MY experience online", and of course that's important.

At a certain extreme point--which we have reached here--it becomes an "I got mine" attitude, which is antithetical to the idea of a community, club, etc. It has little to do with boundaries or personal space and much to do with cohesion and reciprocity. A CS group is a community.

A CS Discord server that anyone can join is essentially a public meetup, where a community more or less interacts. Imagine, for a moment, the server is an IRL meetup. You'd look like a jackass if you had that "I got mine, look at meeeeee" attitude. Lurk the public server and stick to group chats/private servers if you're that precious about your time and space. Nobody wants you around if you're going to be like that.

I cannot believe I have to explain this at this level of detail. Yes, other people would like their turn at the Attention. Other people would like nice comments. Other people would like to feel like they're not invisible. Other people would like to feel like they're an actual member of the community instead of a breathing wallet. Other people would like the chance to make friends.

If you were "I got mine" IRL, you'd have no friends within a couple months. If you do have IRL friends, you're probably careful not to pull this shit and don't even realize you do it. Friendships are their own type of community, with all that entails. How to stay cohesive is an instinct present in all social animals, with levels of the instinct of course varying by individual.

The anonymity of the web and shit nature of CS make sure that instinct doesn't activate. You have to care about people other than yourself, your little group, and people who can benefit you to activate that instinct "by hand".

Sure, nobody owes you their time. But this goes both ways. I hope you and anyone else who thinks like you experience the unpleasant side of it jarringly and with great frequency until you get it.

The fact I had to sit here and write this essay about something so fucking basic is yet another sign that the concept of CS should be doused in gasoline and lit on fire, along with all the over-priced PNGs within it.

Okay. Okay. Okay.

So. This needs a lot of explanation for this rabbit hole, but all of you need to suffer this with me. If you watch my stream and don't want me to idk ruin the "magic" of my little shark don't read this.

But to anyone who PNG's it's pretty common knowledge I think.

So I stream, right? I have no money right? I have no talent for drawing right? So i have to hand make everything I have from whatever I can via 1) Create for myself with MS paint and Gimp

2) Steal from a corporation without feeling bad for it.

So I'm sitting there thinking about how my PNG model has a santa hat for the holiday streams. But the santa hat vanishes when i do different emotes because I didn't photoshop it onto the other faces.

When you don't have a vtube studio model/rig and you use veadotube mini, you're drawing/editing 4 images every time you want to add something. For instance: I spent too long creating shadow heart's hair for my model today. Then had to apply it to every face I have (Standard, clown, blushing). That's 12 times I have to photoshop and save the addition to the original image, and 12 times I have to load a file for every face for consistancy. Not complaining. I fucking love the program and am absolutely chuffed my broke ass could get it for free.

But I didn't do that for the santa hat. The Santa hat is just on my nuetral expression.

I recently added a "zoom" for close ups (a standard streaming trick for emphasizing moments, a lot of streamers do this with a close up of their model or a close up on thier camera.) In order to do this "trick" I had to tell my stream deck to hide my normal veado source and show the "zoom" source. Every expression works big there. But I only have so many keys, I can't map the switch back to the santa hat or santa would just trigger big mode, so I just mapped "hide big mode" to the default face which runs several stream deck commands to nuke any changes I'd made to my look (vanishing clown hair, googly eyes etc.)

I'd have to go "big mode" then small mode which resets everything to default size, and then tap santa mode.

But I kept forgetting to re-apply santa mode after swapping back from big mode. So I'd go huge, shrink down and the hat would be "gone" .

So chat kept making a joke that my hat "fell off again." And I started doing a whole bit where I'd slide my png like it was "walking down the stairs" out of sight, re-apply it and come back up with my hat on again.

Then it occured to me, what if, as a bit, I could do that, and down switch to another scene: One where I'm under like a dinner table. Like I'd ducked under the cloth and was just hanging out down there. I could break the fourth wall and pretend I was taking a break from the audience. Pretend to talk about the show under my breath like they couldn't hear me, you know? As a bit.

So I googled "under the table" to start getting reference photos. Not realizing most of it is either going to be "getting paid under the table" or dudes and dudettes playing with each other under the table.

As I was looking at these I spotted the words "pawjob under the table." It was at this point, I learned what a Pawjob was, and what Pawing off is (I approve and have questions).

So I'm sitting here staring at memes from Genshin impact and just pictures and pictures and pictures of Max beating off sam with his feet and other furries with dicks on their feet and out of the corner of my eye I spot a very serious, very familiar face…

Helloo i want to talk abt the development process about this so heres my rambling below vv

I've been itching to play with blender and tweening for years, but it was just too intimidating to try out. my biggest recommendation is to start small with what you're trying to do and slowly build up from there. ergo: small ass attempts to see if this was even POSSIBLE for me to wrap my head around so made my first test

Very silly headbop animation akin to an edgy animation meme circa 2016. Very fun to do. The whole processes was done through shapekeys in this tab here.

It basically creates a "set" position for your object and then when you manipulate it, like say moving it up, it'll create process that moves the image to and from that position with the "Value" setting. Then you can create keyframes in your animation for the process to complete at a certain point in the animation timeline. And the reason why the "hands" are so much choppier is because you can change the tweening type from smoother transitions to flipping through the frames as they're set. Sorry if this is incomprehensible it took me so many tutorials to understand.

Drew all the files in CSP in separate layers before exporting them on individual pngs. same process throughout development. (with the exception of the details on the boarder.)

SO. i could at LEAST do the basics of tweening, and exporting objects in a coherent way. Now to try a thumbnail drawing for the BIG drawing above, because just because I could make smth jank doesnt mean i could do a whole coherent set.

Test 2! Very rough idea of the big image below. Once again everything here was made via csp, and exported. This was when my friend suggested using the grease pencil in blender which i DID end up using in the final product for a part of the drawing. Still messing with the basics here but it was fun to make the stars glow and play with the lighting settings. The shadow resolution is so high here but my computer could handle it bc of how little parts there were.

I did also try to export the files as one big PNG and chop them up but I couldn't figure it out.

So i went with exporting everything as different PNGS. Which did create an issue with importing? Nothing was exactly to "scale" but it was an easy enough fix.

So with that all handled there was enough confidence to go onto ACTUALLY creating the drawing fully. This part will have more artsy wips than not bc I actually had to Draw. and make so many layers.

So my first instinct was to block out the shapes and color code by how things would be layered. The lighter a shape the closer itd be to the camera via layering

The reason why the star is glowing is bc it has emission on in the shading view! I dont get nodes at ALL and im too scared to try but it looks cool!

I remember trying to add translucence to Eri's sleeves

But ultimately the set up went well! Took a long while to get the animations sorted out (esp bc i switched em up like. half way thru and had to redo/change it up). It was fun to try and get timing right! I believe i wanted to add a squash n stretch effect to Eri's hair, but it looked a bit strange. Would like to try it again at some point.

ANYYWAYY with the GREASE pencil effect

This bit took. a minute. for me to figure out. Getting the symmetry effect to work as well as using a lineart/fill brush. Among MANY tutorials this one was my best friend . Really recommend it if you're interesting in 2d blender stuff.

The effects used was Glow, Shadow, and Rim! Rim being the thing that gave it it's texture. Which. isnt what its typically used for? but it worked anyway!

but heres it without that stuff. strange.

For the Modifiers I used Mirror (symmetry tool) and Noise (which is what gave its shake effect in the video!)

does that! Very careful balance between clipping layers and such.

This was pretty much it though! Or at least what comes to mind. It was very taxing but very rewarding. I think i got this done in like... 2.5..? or 3.5 days. From the start of the eri color blocking to this. Faster than my other drawings but lord. so many tutorials. rant over
