DVMNINKTOBER Day 12 Fave AU: Omens

Day twelve if your fave AU and I had to pick one of the best Devilman AU comics I've ever read in this fandom, @diabolical-jinx Omens! https://www.deviantart.com/diabolicaljinx

I really adore Jinx's beautiful artwork and world building of Heaven, its angels, the Earth and the demons, its so well thought out and exciting to see how Lucifer navigates in the demon world and I'm so pumped to see how he learns to get on with Amon and the rest of the demons!

Jinx's designs are so beautifully done, I adore the thoughtful details she puts into them, for example I love that Lucifer's wrist wings also double as wrist blades, and they are so fun to draw! I can't wait to have a go at drawing Jinx's Amon, he's very cool looking!

And also DiabolicalJinx also plays with different mediums for Omens, and that includes animation! I'm excited to see what else Jinx has in store for this comic and what fun and twists we'll see along the way!

So I totally recommend to go over to DiabolicalJinx's DA page and website and give Omens a read!

The Morning Star sees an opportunity

First picture of the year!!! I hope you all are having a good start of the New Year and had a lot of fun during the holidays! :3I'm still working on looking for a job and trying to take care of my back better and not overwork myself when it comes to my art, I am trying to post a little more than I've done in the past few months by posting any art I've finished right away rather than post it in batches. I can't promise this means you'll be seeing my art more often as I am still going to be busy but I'll do my best!

As for this picture, I had made a poll of what I should draw next and another Nun!Miki AU piece won it! Which is great as I love working on this AU a lot!

As I've said before, Akira in this AU is a priest and while he is older and wiser than his canon counterpart, Akira still has his struggles, namely with religious guilt and the re-awaking desires he had thought he had long buried since merging with Amon plaguing him. Despite their faith and vows, Akira and Miki still hold strong feelings for each other even if they cannot admit them to each other or to themselves and that leaves them possibly vulnerable to the schemes of Satan!

Satan noticing their buried longings plots to plant seeds of doubt into Akira and Miki to not only to gain a small victory by corrupting the servants of his father but later on as his love for Akira and Miki grows, it becomes more about freeing them from their cages and allow them to truly flourish as they were meant to.

After all, a beautiful and pure love such as theirs should not be denied...

Unholy Duo

Andddd this is the last upload for the day! XD And this time its a picture for my Chosen of the Morning Star AU! I had a mutual mention this AU and I decided to finally make some art for it again. This time I wanted to show off Akira's role in this AU, he does still become Devilman, he and Miki hunt demons together, and they are quite effective!

Also as Miki's bond with Satan grows, her powers increase to the point she can shoot out beams of light like the angels do in the intro of Devilman|: The Birth though not as destructive as in the OVA, thankfully!

Also after having talked with Devilmanz666 about this AU and watching a friend play Faith: The Unholy Trinity again, I've decided to make Akira a priest in this AU too! I think it would add more to the temptation role Satan would play in this AU with Akira and Miki. down deeply because of their vows, and that causes them a terrible amount of mental anguish. When Akira becomes a Devilman, it gets harder and harder for him to ignore his desires for both Miki and Ryo. And slowly Satan will sow some seeds of doubts about their faith and the unfairness of how that they cannot be together due their vows without completely breaking it and thus acting selfishly.

But given that they are risking it all for the sake of the world, would it really be so bad to break their vows for the sake of giving themselves some happiness in this world?

I think at first Satan would view his corruption of Akira and Miki as a victory over his father in stealing his followers away and making them his own, but then Satan would start to truly want to help Akira and Miki since the way they live reminds him a little too much of his own former life with God…

I had a lot of fun making this piece, I really wanted to do more action scenes and it was nice to be working with colour again after doing so many black and white pieces. I hope to make more Nun!Miki AU art in the new year since I really do love this AU and want develop it more.

DVMNINKTOBER Day 11 Akira x Miki x Ryo

For day eleven is fave pairing or duo and wellllllll, you all know that I have a lot of ships for Devilman so I decided to draw out five different pictures of each of my ships, Ryokira, Akira/Miki/Ryo, Satan/Zennon, Ryo/Miki and Akira/Miki and as I've said before I had gotten sick around the time I was working on the first of the pictures for this prompt and it really delayed things a lot and not to mention I was challenging myself a lot with these pieces, I want to really craft some good backgrounds like the old masters and while I don't think I've quite captured their ability to do those backgrounds I am pleased that I did go the extra mile for these pieces, I learned a lot making these especially since I was so limited in working in only black and white, so making sure the values were good was extremely important here!

And nowww we are at the fifth and final picture of the day prompt, my OT3, Akira/Miki/Ryo! Here the three of them are softly kissing under the stars while sitting on a bed of roses. :3 I referenced this William Blake illustration for Paradise Lost by John Milton https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:William_Blake_-Satan_Watching_the_Caresses_of_Adam_and_Eve-_WGA02226.jpg and I painstakingly hand drawn those roses for over an hour, maybe nearly two hours! XD This was the second picture I drew for the day 11 prompt and honestly its one of my favorite pictures I've ever done for the OT3, I just love how soft and peaceful it is. I gave one of the versions of this piece a blue tint since I did the sketch in blue and liked how it looked then and made another version to go with the black and white version.

As for why I love the OT3 so much, well, I think that since they all work well separately together that they would be extremely good together and no-one would be left out! :3 And well its double the love double the possible pain or redemption. I love the idea of Ryo being loved by both Akira and Miki which would allow him to see more of the good side of humanity and maybeee they don't have to be so doomed by the narrative (at least not all of the time) and Miki deserves to have two special bfs!

And well, I do love the theme of love conquers and fighting off the narrative that they are doomed no matter what. I always have time loops in my fics because I love playing with the struggle they would have in enduring all of that and how despite the changes they undergo in each time loop they'll always come together with love. Their love is what both dooms and saves them in the end.

And I hope to show that off well in Love Before Its Too Late especially in the later chapters and in other works of mine in the future.

For day eleven is fave pairing or duo and wellllllll, you all know that I have a lot of ships for Devilman so I decided to draw out five different pictures of each of my ships, Ryokira, Akira/Miki/Ryo, Satan/Zennon, Ryo/Miki and Akira/Miki and as I've said before I had gotten sick around the time I was working on the first of the pictures for this prompt and it really delayed things a lot and not to mention I was challenging myself a lot with these pieces, I want to really craft some good backgrounds like the old masters and while I don't think I've quite captured their ability to do those backgrounds I am pleased that I did go the extra mile for these pieces, I learned a lot making these especially since I was so limited in working in only black and white, so making sure the values were good was extremely important here!

The forth picture is Satan x Zennon enjoying each other's company on an cliff side, this piece referenced this Gustave Doré illustration for Paradise Lost https://www.pinterest.com/pin/87398048990638800/ for most of the background and a little bit of Satan's pose. I enjoyed painting this background a lot here, it was fun trying to work out how to make the rocks look good and I got to play with some different textures and effects here too. Satan's were tricky for me to draw as always but I'm happy with how they came out, you can see a little that I referenced the shape of Gustave's Satan's wings a little too.

Now for Satan and Zennon, unlike the previous three ships I've drawn this one doesn't really have anything in canon that actually points to this ship aside from my own brainrot theories about them! XD But because we have next to no idea about the depths of their relationship I can make up a lot of what they would be like as a couple! And once again we have some doomed by the narrative yaoi! :3

Satan and Zennon in my verse are so wrapped around each other that they understand each other so deeply but they are horribly co-dependent too. They are both horribly traumatized by their shitty fathers and yet slowly become exactly like their fathers despite all of their efforts. Both Satan and Zennon are beings who don't know how to live in peace, all they've ever known was violence and war. And yet that is something Satan craves so badly even if he doesn't 100% understand it yet and its the one thing Zennon can never give him. At least not without being able to unpack everything that's happened them both but that's not possible sadly.

In some verses I've given them children but events force Satan and Zennon to make their beloved children into child soldiers and make them as screwed up as they were despite Satan's reluctance to… That had helped to make their relationship colder than Zennon wanted.

Satan loves Zennon deeply but also feels smothered by his love too, and as time goes on Zennon gets more and more jealous and possessive of Satan in fear of losing him. And in a lot of ways he does…

And yet even Satan finds a new love(or two) he can't help but be still drawn to Zennon, after all, Zennon has always been loyal and stayed by his side…

I know I focused a lot on the tragedy of this ship but I also do love showing them being loving and caring for each other too, they've hurt each other but there was love there too…

I would like to one day explore their relationship in a fic or a comic since it is a relationship I like exploring it a ton.

And now to talk about what I love about Akira and Miki! :3 I really enjoyed Akira's and Miki's chemistry in the scenes they had together in the manga and the OVA and the sweet kiss they shared in the Amon OVA and the sweet caring dynamic they had in crybaby. I just love how mushy Akira can be for Miki, and honestly we all know Akira would burn down the world for Miki and in Devilman vs Hades he actually destroys humanity after the mob killed Miki! They are both each other's light in the craziness of the world and I really like that a lot. And I think Miki deserves to have a devilman bf too! :3

Though I'll be honest I wish more creators did a better job of showing why Akira/Miki work well together, far too many creators fail to show why they are fun by making them very bland or just not show how they work together and just expect you to ship them cause they are the M/F couple and do nothing else. Like they need to show off their fun chemistry and Miki's toughness and Akira's softer side with her more, its something I would like to see more in another adaption.

Ah well, I'll be writing of what I wanna see out of these two in my fics I suppose XD

and of course I love to ship these two in poly relationship with Ryo since I feel its one of the key components of the ship!

So the second picture is of Ryokira and the first picture I had worked on when it came to this prompt! Akira and Ryo are sharing a passionate moment together under a tree. I referenced this William Blake illustration of the moment in Paradise Lost by John Milton of Eve falling into temptation by Satan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:William_Blake_-The_Temptation_and_Fall_of_Eve(Illustration_to_Milton%27s_%22Paradise_Lost%22)_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg and I wanted to do a more romantic take on it for Ryokira, because while Ryo/Satan had been a huge temptation to Akira in a lot of ways, he does truly love him. This was a little bit challenging to do as I wanted the background and the poses to look good, drawing Akira in Eve's pose was tricky and I wanted to make sure Ryo's pose kept that wrapping snake like quality the Satan snake had in the original William Blake illustration.

Now on to explaining what I love about Ryokira so much! They are the grandfather of all doomed by the narrative yaoi ship trope so many love! And its all thanks to Akira's and Ryo's love and hate for each other!

I'm gonna copy and paste what I had wrote about Ryokira on tumblr months back because it sums up my feelings about the ship perfectly.

Akira and Ryo were friends before everything went wrong and trusted each other so deeply, even to the point of being willing to go down to hell to together. They understand each other like no other, and would do anything for each other and that’s what damns and saves them(in Violence Jack and Devilman Lady tho XD)

Akira willingly went through the Sabbath and became Devilman for Ryo (as well to save humanity but as we see later in the story humanity to Akira really includes the people he personally knows and loves) and Ryo/Satan has Amon merge with Akira to save him from the human apocalypse since Akira was the only human he could ever love. They both make the same mistakes in some ways, when Ryo/Satan fell in love with Akira he couldn’t look outside of his hatred of humanity to consider that maybe if Akira was lovable to him then maybe not all of humanity is so bad. When Akira lost Miki and her family to the mob he couldn’t look outside his hatred to see that maybe there were other humans that were like Miki who needed to be saved.

I honestly think Ryo fell in love with Akira because Akira was not only a kindred spirit but also showed him that he could live in peace, even if Satan didn’t realise it at the time and that’s why he is regretful at what he had done to Akira by merging with Amon. In a way he had started the progress that will make Akira mirror him in so many ways.

Despite their differences they understand each other even if they don’t want to admit it and in a way they enable each other cause of it. Akira in my mind did come to hate humanity once he saw the evils they committed towards the devilmen and their own fellow humans in order to save themselves and that’s why he was considering Ryo/Satan’s offer to join him, because a part of him did a agree with Ryo on some level, but hated to ever admit it especially after Miki died. Like even tho Ryo was messy as fuck in trying to give his offer for Akira to join his side, the fact he thought it would work says a lot to me about how much he knew how Akira actually felt about humanity.

And despite all of the anger and hatred Akira had felt for Ryo towards the end of the manga in the sequels he still strives to either save Ryo(Violence Jack) or understand him, because he still loves him.(Devilman Lady manga)

And Ryo/Satan wants to understand/love humanity better through Akira’s POV either by loving Miki like Akira had(Violence Jack) or taking on his role as Jun(Devilman Lady manga) And in my opinion in both Violence Jack and Devilman Lady they both save each other even if the journey is really rough and messy! XD

like I’ve said before their love damns and saves them in so many ways, they make each other both better and worse and the world(s) is never the same cause of it. Through love or hate they are drawn together and have a hard time being apart.

The fandom plays around this ship a lot and the best ways I’ve seen it be done is when its both a character and a relationship study where they understand how they can go towards war or peace together…

So yeah after all that waxing poetically again, they are very much OTP but I really like to ship them as a OT3 with Miki cause honestly I feel she is what is able to keep them together or break them apart…

DVMNINKTOBER Day 11 Ryo x Miki

Hi, longtime no see! XD I hope you all had a lovely winter holiday and have a happy new year too! I can only say that this took me as long as it did cause I was being a little too ambitious and it took me longer than I thought it would and well, I've been busy with a lot of things including getting sick at the beginning of the month! XD I'm doing a lot better thankfully but oh boy it had really sucked and slowed me down a lot!

Okay, so the first picture here is of Ryo and Miki sharing a passionate kiss together in a little rocky grotto, presumably hiding from the Slum King's men as they go on the run together so Miki isn't forced into becoming the Slum King's lover.

While Ryo and Miki's romantic relationship doesn't have a lot of screen time in the Violence Jack manga it is one of my fave parts of it, I find them very sweet and loving together despite all of the horrors they've suffered and continue to be the light both of them need. And its so heart breaking that they suffer a lot together at the hands of the Slum King and in the end they both lose their lives in standing up to their abuser, at least Miki did briefly outlive the Slum King but she spent her last moments weeping over Ryo's death. 😭😭😭

I think what I really like about this pairing is a couple of things, one, the second chance factor, Ryo having lost Akira because of his own actions finally gets to be loved romantically and understand Akira's love for Miki more, and two, the theme of everlasting love even during dark times, despite of all of the abuse the two suffered they never stop loving each other and keep each other going and that means a lot to me, especially these days.

And to be honest I like the idea of Ryo finally putting aside his jealously and resentment of Miki and just coming to love her, in a way I feel it shows how much he's changed since the end of Devilman. He tried to right his wrongs by bringing humanity back and even though he accidentally caused the Kanto Hellquake due his guilt and trauma over killing Akira and destroying humanity and he wanted to punish himself for it. Whether VJ Miki is real or not doesn't matter to me much, I think Ryo wanted to be loved and understand Akira more and likely unconsciously recreate Miki or what he had remembered of her, the important thing to me is that it showed the potential of what these two would be like as an couple.

And honestly I love the idea of Miki having an Angel bf XD and also me enjoying this ship a lot is what got me into shipping my OT3! :3

DVMNINKTOBER Day 10 Satan

The tenth day is Satan! And one of the days I was looking forward to making the most, not just because Ryo/Satan is one my fave characters of the devilman series but also I have been wanting to make a Satan fanart piece based on this painting by Sir Thomas Lawrence, "Satan summoning his Legions" https://www.royalacademy.org.uk/article/how-to-read-it-thomas-lawrence-satan

When I first saw this painting I was so inspired and wanted to draw Satan riding on Caliorruar and rallying the demon army as they go to fight against Heaven! This was a hard one to do, because well I really tried to make the pose as close as possible to the Sir Thomas Lawrence painting but ofc Satan doesn't use a spear so I had to use myself as reference for how the left arm was meant to look. Also I wanted to make the shading on Caliorruar look like how Go Nagai did in the original 70s manga, and I played around with different inking brushes to get that effect. I also added a piece of cloth to wrap around Satan, one to censor his nudity but also give this piece a classical painting kind of look too.

I wasn't sure how this was going to look at first until I started adding on the shading and now I'm really pleased with how its come out!

phew that was a lot but I'm making progress, the next art batch is going to be mostly different versions of the day 11 prompt: fav ship/duo and given that I have quite a few ships I dearly love, I am going to be making quite a few versions of this prompt! XDD

DVMNINKTOBER Day 9 Sabbath

So I've been slowly, slowly been working my through this year's Devilman Inktober by nozoshii created for the community https://www.tumblr.com/nozoxshii/763169423585673216/i-made-a-devilman-inktober-prompt-list-for-the?source=share

The ninth day is Sabbath! The Sabbath scene in Devilman is one of the most famous parts of the whole series and its one I really enjoy because it has a lot of foreshadowing for what happens later in the series, i.e Ryo causes problems and the people at the party focus on beating the shit out of him rather than just restraining him and helping those he has injured. And because the partygoers are stuck in the mob mentality they attack Akira when he tries to help Ryo rather than just ignoring him or moving him away from the scene. And because the party was more geared towards violence and losing themselves to it, its what lead them to becoming merged with demons and the Sabbath turning into a true blood bath! It funny enough hints at the later horrors of the fifth volume...

The Sabbath scenes in Devilman adaptions are normally filled with debauchery, the partygoers seemingly only living for the moment and to be unfortunate sacrifices for Akira's and Ryo's mission. The OVA version of the Sabbath is my personal fave because of the colour scheme its so lovely and fun honestly! But I do think Crybaby's Sabbath scene sells the debauchery element very well and there are so great colours in that scene too!

The Sabbath scene is also a great host of demonic violence and Akira's triumph in mastering over Amon and becoming a devilman!

But that's not what I decided to make for this prompt, I decided to show what the Sabbath likely looked like before Akira and Ryo go down to the basement, a place where normal partygoers danced, drank, did drugs and loved the night away. Again this really highlights that these were normal people who died so Akira could become Devilman, regardless if it was to save only Akira or to save the world this cost an entire hoard of humans to do it.

I was originally going to make this in black and white but when I showed this to devilmanz666 he had mentioned that he thought the colours for this piece was going to be pretty cool with all of the coloured lights that are present in the sabbath scenes and I thought why not have this inktober piece be the one with the most colour. I think it really helps the partygoers to stand out more so thank you devilmanz666 for giving me that idea! :D

I'm pretty pleased with how this came and it was fun to make too!

DVMNINKTOBER Day 8 Crybaby

The eighth day of the prompt is Crybaby! And oh man this an adaption I have the most mixed feelings for! I've watched it twice now and honestly while I don't love Crybaby, I can't bring myself to hate it for all it tried to do, I really feel like the rushed pace and it only being ten episodes long did not do this series any favors. Also hated how they treated Sirene but I'd rather bog this description down with all of the things I feel the series has done wrong. And I think having the series set in modern times makes a lot of sense since sadly violence, hatred of the other and war are timeless

I do like some of the things the creators added to crybaby, the rappers, Miko, how they dealt with social media and news being a tool that could destroy or give hope in dark times, and honestly given how things are in the world it is horribly relevant more so than ever! I also loved the music, honestly its my fave thing about crybaby, the soundtrack slaps hard, and is so fitting for its time period (just like how the OVAs' and the Amon OVA's OST are so fitting for their time periods too!) and I love to listen to it a lot!

I did enjoy some of the wacky demon designs even if they weren't the wonderfully detailed ones I normally like, they are at least fun to look at. Psycho Jenny's design in Crybaby is one of my faves honestly, and I had a lot of fun drawing it here for this picture! Also Miki's death scene broke my heart, okay, I keep being in tears while I was watching it, that was roughhh and I did like the final battle, the music and the emotions were really hyped in my opinion.

Speaking of this picture, this one was a little tricky to make but I wanted to again play with composition, and playing around with different textures and shading. Also while Crybaby Satan's design isn't my personal fave I did have a lot of fun drawing him too, especially his wings, they are more simple looking than the Amon OVA's design of Satan but a little more detailed than the manga version of Satan, so it was an interesting challenge to find the right balance.

DVMNINKTOBER Day 7 OVA

The seventh day prompt is the OVA and I have to say that the 87-90 adaption of Devilman is one my favorite version of Devilman, its right up there with the manga and its because it is despite some changes it is extremely close to the manga's plot and honestly I think it really improved on some things too! The art style and the animation of the OVAs was truly godtier, like I cannot express enough how beautiful it is to watch, the use of colour that used to bring the horrific demons of Go Nagai's creation was masterful! The music is amazing and oh my gosh the demon bird arc was beautifully adapted in the OVA!

Like no joke it was so well done, I love how it starts off with Jinmen and Akira having to battle with the fact he can't always save everyone including his own mother and ends with him barely surviving his grand fight with Sirene! Honestly the OVAs do a lovely job with showing subtly Akira's morals break down little by little when he is introduced to violence and honestly if the OVAs had been able to be finished I am convinced that we would've seen Akira fully break down and abandon humanity in the final OVA part, I mean he does in the Drama CD so there's that at least.

But back to the demon bird arc, I utterly adore how the OVA did Sirene, she is powerful and yet shows some vulnerabilities as she battles with Akira for to avenge Amon's soul and man she really is his equal in so many ways, if Akira had made one wrong move he could've been torn apart by Sirene!

So for this picture I wanted to center Sirene a lot more and have Akira and Ryo be the more looming evil presence surrounding her, since in Sirene's POV they are the villains of her story. This was a hell of a test of my composition skills and honestly this batch of arts I'm gonna be throwing your way is all about me stretching myself when it comes to composition. XD

DVMNINKTOBER Day 6 Fave DVMN

The sixth day is your fave devilman and I chose to draw Miko! I really like Miko from the manga and the Amon OVA, and I feel she is criminally underused honestly, which is a shame cause there is something to be said about a devilman like her who has to keep her truth self even more hidden compared to Akira. Miko is able to hidden the growth that gives her acid spitting powers underneath her clothes but she can't just show her true self to just anybody and the growth itself gives her horrific body dysphoria and at first she had believed that it was a punishment from God for her thieving ways and when she accidentally killed the girls harnessing her for quitting stealing for them she was gaslit into believing she deserved the abuse the scientists were doing to her during their experiments.

It wasn't until Akira rescued her and told her that she wasn't a demon but a devilman because she has a heart of a human that she started to not hate herself so much. Also shout out to the liveaction movie for doing one thing right in having Miki make Miko feel better about her new appearance and giving her the strength to go on in the end.

But yeah I wish more Devilman media did more with Miko and allow her to be a badass more (I'm looking at you Amon OVA that was bs!) and have more interaction with the cast more.

I went for something a little simple here but hopefully impactful for Miko, I wanted the focus to be all about her.

Again given how bad my back is still and how busy I am, I know the next batch of the Devilman Inktober is going to take a bit and I know I won't be able to do all of this within October! XD So I'll continue this for however it takes for me to get through this prompt list since I do really want to finish this even if it takes me through into the new year to do so! XD

DVMNINKTOBER Day 5 Fave Demon

The fifth day is your favorite demon and between a lot of great demons in Devilman, I have to go for my man Zennon, the King of Demons!!! I never expected for Zennon to grow on me but when I had reread Devilman again in 2022 I noticed how much Zennon began to intrigue me since we know so little about him in the series and reading Violence Jack and finding out that the Slum King was a reborn version of Zennon intrigued me further. Zennon is so powerful and mysterious, we know so little about him despite him being Satan's second in command and as revealed in the Devilman Lady manga he and Satan are merged together and that's why Zennon has a female head on his left shoulder! Zennon is forever loyal to Satan in all ways, but he isn't afraid to call him out for falling in love with Akira. And yet when he was reborn as the Slum King he was downright vindictive in his cruelty towards Ryo/Satan(as Satan had wanted but only to him and no-one else) as though despite not remembering who he was he wanted Ryo/Satan to suffer for what he had allowed to happen in the Demon VS Devilman war.

Zennon also has an amazing design, Go Nagai clearly based his design of Zennon on Satan/Lucifer from Dante Alighieri's epic narrative poem, The Divine Comedy, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divine_Comedy You can see how Zennon has three heads just like Satan/Lucifer has in Dante's Inferno https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divine_Comedy#/media/File:Lucifer_from_Petrus_de_Plasiis_Divine_Comedy_1491.png https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dante%27s_Satan and I think that's extremely fun hoenstly!

We don't know a lot about Zennon personally so its allowed me to play around with a lot of headcanons with him in my verse and honestly it is a ton of fun to play this demon king like a doll! XD

I wanted to draw Zennon towering over the city like he does in the manga when he first shows, it really sells to you how much of a powerful presence he is the way he projects his image around the world to announce to humanity that the demons intend to take back the Earth! Quite a fearsome force to be reckoned with!

The fourth day is your favorite character and I think you alllll know who is my fave in all of Devilman! XD and I've written a lot on the day 2 picture about how much I love about the original version of Ryo/Satan and his importance to the series! For this picture I thought I'd show the two different sides of Ryo/Satan, the human who has the weight of his father's frightening inheritance on his shoulders and the fallen angel who schemes to bring about the end of humanity, both are fighting for the Earth they love so much but in the end it was all for nothing...

I had a lot of fun making this even though drawing the earth was kind of challenging for me XD

DVMNINKTOBER Day 3 Miki

The third day is Miki, another important yet unused character in the Devilman series, which is a shame since her death series is crucial part of how the conflict between Akira and Ryo began! I really love Miki as a character and I have to admit its mostly from her manga version, she was fun, spunky and sometimes a little violent but also just a normal teenage girl who just wanted to be with Akira and did not deserve the awful fate at the hands of the mob and is a huge reminder to us that when horrible things happen, such as witchhunts, innocent people will always get caught up in it all and suffer the price horribly! Miki is often used as a symbol of Akira's humanity and his ties to it, which is all fine and all but I wish more creators would remember that Miki is a human being with her own life and really highlight what a horrible thing it is to be put on such pedestal or at least examine what it means to be put on a pedestal like that and what it would do to someone like Miki if she knew that because of her death Akira gave up on saving humanity. Again I think Miki's story is extremely tragic an important story to remember.

So since Miki's last appearance in the manga has her wearing a black and white dress, I thought it would make sense to have the background to be a mix of Akira's and Ryo's flipped, merged together and adjusted to fit Miki more. Also I wanted to draw Miki when she was at her most badass even if in the manga it didn't last long, it was still awesome to see her throw molotov cocktails and stab her foes with a knife as she tried to fight for her life from the mob. We can pretend here that she's here to kick ass alongside Akira and Ryo in her own way. :3
