DVMNINKTOBER Day 5 Fave Demon

So I've been slowly, slowly been working my through this year's Devilman Inktober by nozoshii created for the community https://www.tumblr.com/nozoxshii/763169423585673216/i-made-a-devilman-inktober-prompt-list-for-the?source=share

The fifth day is your favorite demon and between a lot of great demons in Devilman, I have to go for my man Zennon, the King of Demons!!! I never expected for Zennon to grow on me but when I had reread Devilman again in 2022 I noticed how much Zennon began to intrigue me since we know so little about him in the series and reading Violence Jack and finding out that the Slum King was a reborn version of Zennon intrigued me further. Zennon is so powerful and mysterious, we know so little about him despite him being Satan's second in command and as revealed in the Devilman Lady manga he and Satan are merged together and that's why Zennon has a female head on his left shoulder! Zennon is forever loyal to Satan in all ways, but he isn't afraid to call him out for falling in love with Akira. And yet when he was reborn as the Slum King he was downright vindictive in his cruelty towards Ryo/Satan(as Satan had wanted but only to him and no-one else) as though despite not remembering who he was he wanted Ryo/Satan to suffer for what he had allowed to happen in the Demon VS Devilman war.

Zennon also has an amazing design, Go Nagai clearly based his design of Zennon on Satan/Lucifer from Dante Alighieri's epic narrative poem, The Divine Comedy, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divine_Comedy You can see how Zennon has three heads just like Satan/Lucifer has in Dante's Inferno https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divine_Comedy#/media/File:Lucifer_from_Petrus_de_Plasiis_Divine_Comedy_1491.png https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dante%27s_Satan and I think that's extremely fun hoenstly!

We don't know a lot about Zennon personally so its allowed me to play around with a lot of headcanons with him in my verse and honestly it is a ton of fun to play this demon king like a doll! XD

I wanted to draw Zennon towering over the city like he does in the manga when he first shows, it really sells to you how much of a powerful presence he is the way he projects his image around the world to announce to humanity that the demons intend to take back the Earth! Quite a fearsome force to be reckoned with!

Here we have some sensual transformation with Satan and Zennon! I can see this as Zennon helping making Satan's transformation into his true form much more pleasurable. :D

This was fun to make and I thought it would be good to make a sensual like piece for Satan/Zennon for once since again I don't make nearly enough art for them! I have originally planned to make this a full transformation sequence but I think that'll have to wait for another time as it would be a quite involved piece to make XDDD

Devilman: The origins of Berserk?

Devilman is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Go Nagai. The manga focuses on a high school student named Akira Fudo who absorbs the powers of the demon called "Amon" with help of his friend Ryo Asuka in order to battle creatures hidden in human society, thus calling himself the "Devilman" in the process. 

Akira Fudo is a shy teenager who lives in his friend Miki Makimura's house as his parents work abroad.

One day, Akira's childhood friend Ryo Asuka reveals to him that the Earth is about to be invaded by demons, monstrous beings hibernating for centuries in the ice who are about to resurface. According to Ryo, demons have lived on Earth before the appearance of man, and now they want to claim possession of it.

The only way to defeat them is to take control of the demons' powers to fight them on equal terms. Ryo then involves his friend in a ritual called the Black Sabbath, an event where numerous demons plan to merge with humans to infiltrate society.

During the Black Sabbath, Akira merges with Amon, a demon warrior both idolized and feared among his kind for his incredible strength. However, instead of Amon holding control over Akira, the latter's pure soul triumphed over that of Amon, bringing the demon to heel and creating Devilman.

After fighting out of the Black Sabbath, Akira uses his demon persona to battle multiple enemies hidden in society.

Meanwhile, Ryo journeys back to the mansion where he informed Akira of the world of the demons, and finds an album about his life which states he died years ago in a car accident. During his ensuing existential crisis, Ryo is met by a group of demons led by the demoness Psycho Jenny, who informs him of the reality of his identity. 

Ryo is Satan, a fallen angel who sympathized with the demons and turned on God for wanting to exterminate them. As part of Satan's plan to lead an all-out war on humanity, he had Psycho Jenny erase his memories and replace them with those of Ryo Asuka until the time when he was ready to begin the war. 

(Anime) Akira falls in love with Miki Makimura, and Devilman is tamed by his desire to protect her. (Beast of Darkness) Devilman resolves to defect from his orders, and from then on fights a slew of opponents sent by Zennon and his Demon Generals.

During a television broadcast, Ryo reveals the existence of Devilmen to the public but does not differentiate them from demons when he shows footage of Akira's first transformation. This leads to a panic that causes humans to turn on each other worldwide. While Akira confronts Ryo for answers and learns the truth of his former friend's identity, a mob of humans kill Miki and her family for being associated with him.

With Miki's death, Akira loses faith in humanity before vowing to get revenge on Satan. 

When asked by Zennon about why he wanted Akira to survive humankind's extinction by becoming a Devilman, Satan implies that the reason is because he loved Akira and wanted to protect him. 

During their final battle, the Devilmen are wiped out by the demons and Satan kills Akira.

Reflecting on his actions, Satan realizes what he did to humankind was no different from what God did to demons, and as he feels regret, God's angels descend upon the Earth.

The series was originally ordered by Toei Animation as a toned-down anime version of Nagai's previous manga series, Demon Lord Dante. 

Here, Ryo meets Medusa (like Slan), who takes him into that past using time travel. Medusa reveals Ryo that God is an energy-based monster (Idea of Evil) God wanted Earth inhabitants' bodies.

So, Mainesthai, aka Manic! or Keely if you want to be down to Earth and Human about him. Past self was a lil' foxlike bestia devil referred to as Mainesthai or "Mai". He was a member of the Swift-Tail Bestia Devil tribe. He was the de facto leader after having to combat their former leader, Dual Animus. Unbeknownst to DA, Zennon was already heavy on mentoring Mai to become a more powerful being: Thus, becoming triumphant over DA, Mai becomes Mania; a more powerful, ruthless devil who carried his tribe further into an unfortunate spiral. His demise would follow a century or two after.

When the Age of Man would begin, Mai is reborn into the soul of a young, charismatic and empathetic young man named Killian Averne. He doesn't care much for insane social interactions and prefers his small social groups. He ends up discovering his abilities later on, and he has to go through several hardships to learn to manage Mai and his many other forms!

2. 1987 OVAs (PLEASE LOOK AT ALL THE RYO MOMENTS #2. THE ENGLISH DUB IS HILARIOUS AND SO BAD THAT IT'S GOOD. SILENE GIRLBOSS MOMENTS)

3. cb chara (i love how Silene and Kaim get more character development. a very light and funny series)

4. cyborg 009 vs devilman (still watching this actually)

5. amon apocalypse (designs are STELLAR, plot is not faithful to the manga. admittedly i only watched like 10 minutes of this)

6. crybaby (i don't like how Silene is rewritten to be hypersexual AND ALSO raped by Akira at all (ooc for Akira imo), i wish Miki had more moments to be an absolute badass as in the manga, and i hate crybaby Ryo's design oh my god why are you doing that to him WHY ARE YOU REMOVING ALL HIS NEURODIVERGENT ANGELBOY SWAGGER) (i love Jenny's design though she looks the coolest here) (also this particular adaptation was much more uncomfortable to watch for me relative to the ones above but that is likely the point given that the director said at one point that crybaby is meant to resemble what he figures Go Nagai would've done for the manga in the 70s, if i am not mistaken?)

7. devilman lady (only read the last 2 chapters and i hated it to begin with and all the summaries of the other chapters i hear. its only redeeming qualities is Michael's existence and how Satan and Akira get to team up at the end)

and where do i put that really weird spinoff demon king on here? it contradicts other lore that go nagai made!!

Tearful Reunion

Hellooo everyone its been a while since I've posted art, I've just been so busy with private commissions and getting myself ready for my courses so I haven't had much time to do much art lately. But I have managed to make some pieces, and they are all Satan/Zennon themed since I have been neglecting drawing them!

Here we have Zennon being reunited with his beloved Satan after being away from each other for so long. While Satan is the most powerful out of the two of them, I think he does enjoy how big Zennon is compared to him and being held by his Demon King is a delight. I'd imagine that Zennon doesn't want to admit it but he does find Satan's human form quite cute in how he can hold him in the palm of his hand quite easily! 🤭

History repeats itself

Hi, hope this isn't weird- I followed for the Jojo fanart and stayed for the dmcb content. However, I can't fully appreciate the art and other references bc I watched dmcb at least two years ago and all I remember is that time Akira busted a nut so hard it reached the ceiling. In lieu of rewatching the show or reading the manga are you willing to give a rundown of the plot :D be as concise or lengthy as you like and no pressure to actually answer, but I figured you might enjoy the opportunity to infodump to a very eager audience ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

Sure, I´ll give you a little summary but first I let know that your message made me laugh really hard, the "nutting in the ceiling" scene is so bizarre that is not surprise that you remember it .

Basically, dmcb is an adaptation of the original Devilman series from the 70, so there are a few changes from the og story in order to reach newer audiences. The og series dealt with themes like the fear of an upcoming war but also made a point to show how humans tend to be selfish and irrational. It wasn´t meant to have a happy ending but rather show our cruel nature.

Crybaby changed the war aspects to show social issues like xenophobia but the ending remained almost the same. (Spoilers: Akira dies at the hands of Satan who then realizes how pointless the war between humans and demons is. This is because he was in love with Akira and now that he´s gone, he feels completely empty).

There are a couple of changes in the main characters too.

Og Akira was a little bit more violent because of the influence of Amon (the demon he fused with) and he wasn´t as sentimental as the crybaby version but he had his human side too.

Ryo (the blonde one) was the one who had more changes. He is still pretty much violent and deranged in the og version but he is way more human, in the sense that he shows way more emotions, allowing himself to be vulnerable. In the manga, when it was revealed that he was Satan it was a little bit more impactful because, while he had his violent tendencies, he still was pretty much a guy fighting alongside his friend to defeat demons and save humanity.

Crybaby Ryo on the other hand was a little bit colder to the point that I and other people who watched the show suspected that something was up with him. (Still love him tho) Also, the fact that he loves Akira is present in every adaptation he's in and is crucial to his character.

I should mention that there are a bunch of adaptations to the manga, the most popular ones are 1987' OVAs and Crybaby but there´s also Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman and a crossover between 009 Cyborg and Devilman. Every one of these has its own take on Akira and Ryo´s design and I tend to use all of them as references.

So, basically the sequents of events goes like this:

_ Ryo takes Akira to the Sabbath where he merges with a demon.

_ They go demon hunting and the story shows Akira trying to manage his new body.

_ There are a couple of demons that almost always are present: Sirene (she´s the one with the wings on her head and he titties out) Kaim (he's always with sirene and simps for her) Jinmen (the turtle) and Zennon (He´s the giant one with three heads).

_At some point the demons realize that Satan was simping way too hard and sacrificed one the strongest demons in order to keep Akira alive in the case of an Apocalypse so they invade the earth to kill al humans.

_Ryo finds out he´s Satan and joins the demons as their lord/god.

_ Miki Makimura (the girl who lived with Akira and the one he ad a crush on) dies in a HORRIBLE way and that prompts Akira to let go of his humanity and desire to live.

_He still wants to kick Satan's ass tho.

_ Satan kills him instead (accidentaly, I guess).

_ While he´s sobbing for the loss of the one he loved, God appears and kills everyone and reestarts the world.

There are two sequels to Devilman (Violent Jack and Devilman Lady) but for the love of Satan don't read them, both of them are incredibly violent and filled with SA. I sometimes draw stuff from Devilman lady (which is the worst one) because I got really attached to some of the characters even if the story they are in is one of the worst things I ever read.

older xenon redesign I did a while back. Can't remember if I did another one when I thought I lost this one. That and his heads are based on some other demons that appeared in Neo Demon Lord Dante. I think I planned on him being a former angel, specifically a cherub
