NGL, Watching a lot of youtube videos "Free with ads", legit films youtube has given you watch them with ads, as well as old films either no one cares about, (there's a lot of old horror or archival youtube channels, that no one bothers to look for or track a copyright for.) or that are public domain. A LOT of streaming services won't host anything that provides "bad optics" for their brand. They'll get dumped on Tubi, or Youtube, or Freevee or whatever.

Anything with say, Mel Gibson in it. "Raunchy" comedies from the 00s. Things with actors too spicy to splash on a streaming service's main menu.

Watching these over the last few days seems to be pushing more and more pirated in theatres movies into my algorithm.

Which lets all be honest. We're all struggling to sleep given the state of things. Some of us have nothing better to do than watch handicam uploads of Venom Save the Last Dance when the youtube algorithm plops it into our lap.

What's interesting is not only the fact the algorithm is clearly pushing these pirated films. But the reasons for it are purely algorithm grabbing attempts to launch channels. Almost every single one of them if you scroll past 3 or 4 movies with titles like "Blockbuster 2024 | Superhero Teamup Wolverine" or whatever (not an actual title btw but they're all named like that) you see like, minecraft tutorials, or rust lets plays, stream vods.

So there's clearly this move, this attempt, to grab the algorithm's attention with free movies, but without ADMITING it's a pirated movie, with the express intent of drawing people in to look at their fledgling content career. Which is wild.

BUT.

That's not getting into the number of these which turn out to be a thumbnail HINTING at one of these random pirated films, but it just turns out to be someone who knits for 30 minutes and the last frame just lasts an hour, with the intent of padding out the video length.

The funniest thing to me about Hawk Tuah as someone who literally doesn't have tiktok...is y'all act like Rebecca Black and Courtney Stodden weren't a thing. There was a whole generation of Courtney Stodden. Rebecca Black. Lady Gaga. This shit's been going on for fucking ever it's okay. Weirdo's just get famous for no reason sometimes. And every generations rolls their eyes like they're too good for it and scoffs, and sneers, and gags and is like "I can't believe it." Like shut the fuck up this is what Going Viral was for the longest time. Let them have their generation of cringe weirdo famous for no reason people. It's okay. Shh. Shh.
