Fevered Bonds
Fevered Bonds
Tumblr media
Pairing: Connor Rhodes x Halstead!Reader Summary: A severe case of the flu leaves you barely responsive, your fever skyrocketing to dangerous levels. As your condition worsens, Connor struggles to keep you stable at home, torn between respecting your fear of hospitals and the growing dread that he might lose you. Fever-induced delirium, exhaustion, and the slow process of recovery make for a long night—one that neither of you will forget.\
Connor knew something was wrong the second he walked through the door.
The heat inside your apartment was stifling, the air thick and constricting. The thermostat read 80°F, far too high for someone already burning up. A spike of worry cut through him like a knife as he scanned the dimly lit living room, eyes locking onto the couch where you were curled up beneath a pile of sweat-soaked blankets.
You were trembling, body wracked with uncontrollable shivers despite the heat.
“Y/N.”
Kneeling beside you, he pressed the back of his hand to your forehead, only to feel scorching heat radiating off your skin. His pulse jumped. This wasn’t just a fever—it was dangerous.
Your eyelids fluttered weakly, but your gaze didn’t quite focus. Your pupils were sluggish, the usual warmth in your eyes dulled by exhaustion and something far worse—delirium.
“…Jay?”
Connor stilled.
His chest tightened as he watched your eyes flicker past him, unfocused and distant.
You weren’t looking at him… You were looking through him.
Your fingers twitched against his arm, grasping at something—or someone—who wasn’t there.
“You—you’re hurt,” you mumbled, your raspy voice barely above a whisper. “Jay… you need to sit down. You’re—there’s so much blood—”
Connor exhaled sharply, his throat tightening.
He recognized the signs immediately: delirium from hyperpyrexia. You weren’t just confused—you were trapped in some fever-induced flashback, reliving a memory you couldn’t escape.
“Y/N,” he said firmly, cupping your cheek, his touch gentle but grounding. “It’s Connor. I’m here. You’re sick, but I’ve got you.”
You let out a soft, distressed noise, your body twitching under his hands. Another tremor wracked your frame, and Connor barely suppressed a curse.
Grabbing the thermometer from the coffee table, he slipped it under your tongue, keeping a steadying hand at the nape of your neck when your head lolled slightly. The beep came too soon, and when he pulled it back, his heart dropped into his stomach.
104.7°F.
A fever that high wasn’t just uncomfortable—it was life-threatening. If it climbed much higher, you’d be at risk for seizures, brain damage, organ failure.
“Shit,” he muttered under his breath, already reaching for his bag.
Your pulse was racing beneath his fingers—easily over 120 bpm, a classic sign of systemic inflammatory response syndrome. You were dehydrated, tachycardic, and burning up.
He considered calling an ambulance, but as if sensing his thoughts, your weak fingers curled around his wrist.
“No hospital,” you rasped, voice barely audible.
Connor exhaled sharply through his nose.
He should’ve fought you on it. If this were anyone else—any other patient—he would’ve forced them onto a gurney and straight into the ED. But you weren’t just anyone.
You were you.
And he’d sworn to keep you safe.
“Okay,” he murmured, brushing damp hair from your forehead. “Okay.”
Your fingers twitched again, something close to a thank you.
But another violent shiver stole any chance of a response, your body curling in on itself as your muscles spasmed from the fever.
At that, Connor got up and strode to the hall closet, where he kept a more advanced first aid kit, which included IV kits and medications, since like your brothers, you had a severe tendency to downplay your injuries and illnesses.
Connor moved swiftly, securing a tourniquet around your arm as he scanned for a vein. The cephalic vein, located just to the side of your bicep tendon, was faint but still visible, though it appeared slightly collapsed. The dehydration was complicating the process, so Connor lightly flicked the area he planned to use, hoping to encourage the vein to dilate and make the insertion easier.
“Stay with me, sweetheart,” he murmured, swabbing the site before uncapping the 18-gauge catheter.
The needle slid in smoothly. A flash of blood return filled the chamber, and Connor advanced the catheter before securing the line. He hooked up the normal saline IV, and put the IV bag on a hook that held a picture of you and him, that he took down temporarily. and opened the roller clamp, watching the fluid start to drip into your system.
Your body twitched at the sudden intake of fluids.
“There we go,” he murmured, keeping his voice steady even as his own pulse refused to cease galloping. “You’re gonna feel so much better soon.”
But your fever was still too high.
Connor pushed himself up and strode to the bathroom, twisting the faucet until lukewarm water began filling the tub. He tested the temperature with his wrist, ensuring it wasn’t too cold. Cooling too fast could cause vasoconstriction and worsen the fever response.
Returning to you, he placed the IV bag on your abdomen, and eased his arms under you, picking you up. You whimpered slightly at the change in positions, to which Connor replied, “Shh sweet girl. It's alright. I’ve got you.” He carried you into the bathroom, and gently set you in the water, and set the IV bag up on the shower curtain rod.
The second your skin touched the water, a weak whimper escaped your lips.
“No—Jay—don’t—”
His grip tightened, steady but gentle.
“You’re safe,” he murmured, running a cool washcloth over your flushed skin. “I’ve got you.”
You let out another quiet sound, eyes still distant—but this time, you finally started to relax.
Minutes stretched on. The room was silent aside from the occasional ragged breath you took, the soft drip of the IV, the steady cadence of Connor’s voice as he whispered reassurances.
Slowly, the fever began to break.
104… 103.5… 102.6°F.
Still high. But it was no longer lethal.
Once he was sure your body had adjusted, he got you out of the tub, wrapped you in your favorite fluffy towel, and carried you into your shared bedroom and sat you on the edge of the bed. Quickly, he went into the closet, and got a pair of running shorts and a t- shirt. Connor helped you into dry clothes and laid you in bed. Your skin was clammy, your body still weak, but your pulse had steadied—no longer erratic, no longer dangerously fast.
Your fingers curled around his wrist, stronger than before.
“’M still here,” you mumbled, voice scratchy but certain.
His chest tightened.
Yeah. You were. And as long as he had anything to say about it, you always would be.
Recovery was slow.
For the next day and a half, Connor barely left your side.
Your fever hovered around 101°F, leaving you exhausted and barely able to keep your eyes open for more than a few minutes at a time. Even when you were awake, your words came out in a haze, fever-induced ramblings that broke his heart every single time.
“Jay, is… is that you?” you murmured weakly, your voice a rough whisper. The fever was still clouding your mind. It wasn’t until you saw the concerned, loving gaze in Connor’s eyes that you fully registered who was there. The next words that came from you weren’t words at all, just a strangled sob of relief that wracked your body and nearly broke him. He held you through it, not knowing how to fix it, but he knew he couldn’t let you go.
Connor forced you to sip electrolyte solutions, fed you small bites of soup even when you weakly protested.
“You haven’t eaten in two days,” he reminded you, his voice soft but firm, not willing to back down.
You scowled at him from beneath the blankets. “Bossy.”
He smirked. “Stubborn.”
It was hard to see you like this. You, normally so strong, so fiercely independent, now depend on him for even the smallest things. It made him feel like the walls were closing in, like the weight of his own concern was suffocating him.
Eventually, the fever broke entirely. Your temperature finally dropped below 100°F, and the exhaustion that had weighed on you like a lead blanket finally began to lift.
Connor—still hovering, always watching—checked your pulse one last time, fingers lingering over your wrist.
Finally, he let himself relax.
“See?” you murmured, voice still hoarse but teasing. “Told you I’d be fine.”
Connor huffed, shaking his head. “You nearly cooked yourself from the inside out. Forgive me if I don’t find that too terribly funny.”
You sighed, squeezing his hand. “But I had you.”
His gaze softened, and he remembered why he fell head over heels for you in the first place.
“Yeah,” he murmured, brushing his thumb over your knuckles. “You did.”
And you always would.
As you slept, Connor stayed awake, fearful you might take a turn down the wrong direction. the rhythmic rise and fall of your chest being the only thing keeping him sane. He watched over you, unable to shake the nagging fear that had lodged itself in his chest. But each breath you took, each gentle movement, was a reminder that you were still with him. And that was all that mattered.

Hey hun! Can you do a halstead sister? She goes to 51 after going to classes (college) or maybe a friends. I go into SVT( basically really high heart rate) and she has a really bad episode at the firehouse and gets rushed to med. maybe Connor makes a. Appearance
Skip a beat- Halstead!sister
To say that the day had been rough was an understatement. It was finals week since the fall term was ending. Christmas was right around the corner, so on top of your exams and papers, you were making presents for Jay, Will, and a few of your friends from the 21st, 51, and med. You’d often hang at 51 after classes if you were too tired to walk home. Jay and Will both agreed that you shouldn’t drive with your regular episodes of SVT, so you usually had to wait for Jay, Will, Matt, or Kelly to take you home if you ended up at 51. Today was one of those days.
When you walked into 51, Kelly immediately stood up from the squad table, abandoning the tools he was cleaning. The rest of squad was at the table, but they simply waved. Your “uncle” came to pull you into a tight hug.
“Hey kiddo.” Kelly said, smiling brightly as he looked you over. “I’ve been expecting you! Your watch kept alerting us to your heart rate today. What’s going on?” Kelly asked, tucking you under his arm as he steered you into the common area of 51.
“Finals.” Was all you mumbled, leaning into Kelly’s strong grip. You soaked up all the heat you could get from him, needing the physical contact and comfort of his warmth after the day you had.
Kelly hummed as Mouch piped up from the couch. “I don’t miss those days!” He said, shaking his head.
“You probably don’t remember anything you learned from that long ago, grandpa.” Gallo joked from the kitchen, pointing the spatula right at Mouch. Gallo wiggled his eyebrows and smiled widely as Mouch turned his attention to the kitchen.
“You keep it up Gallo. Don’t forget who my wife is, let alone who one of my best friends is.” Mouch said, threatening him with the wrath of Trudy and Boden.
Gallo blanched, but tried to play it off like he didn’t care. He shrugged and looked at the pan in front of him, flipping the grilled cheese he was making before looking back at you and Kelly. “Matt’s in his office.” He said, smiling at you before returning to his cooking.
You looked around and waved at everyone as you walked past with Kelly. Sylvie and Violet were in the bunks, having gotten tired of the antics from truck and engine. They both popped up to pull you into a hug as you stepped into the bunk room with Kelly.
“Hey girl!” Sylvie exclaimed as she pulled you into a hug. “It’s been a while!”
Violet got to you next and smiled brightly as you both pulled away. “Yeah! What’s new?” She asked, looking you over as she noticed how pale you were and how much you were leaning into whoever was holding you.
“Finals and Christmas stuff. Gotta love the holidays.” You said, shrugging your shoulders lightly and gently pulling on Kelly. “Uncle Kel, can I go lay down in Matty’s office for a bit?” You whispered, one hand fisted into the back of his squad jacket while the other held his arm close to your body. You didn’t want to alert the medics that you were feeling extremely weak, but Kelly figured that would be the case with the three separate SVT alerts he had gotten today.
Kelly nodded and smiled at the medics before pulling you away and to Matt’s office. He knocked on the door and waited until Casey pulled his face out of the files of paper work on his desk to open the door. “Special delivery for Matty.” Kelly joked lightheartedly, but gave Matt a look they shared all too often lately.
Matt smiled warmly as you unceremoniously plopped down into his lap. “Well hey there kiddo.” Matt greeted, rubbing his hand up and down your back while checking your pulse with the other. “Rough day?” Matt asked, though he already knew the answer. Just like Kelly, Matt had gotten the same notification. He assumed you would be here and already had Kidd lined up to take over truck while you were in house.
You nodded, placing your head on Matt’s shoulder. You were always a physical touch person, but more so when you didn’t feel well. You'd find one of your brothers or uncles and plopped into their lap, soaking up their warmth as you lay your head on their shoulder. Nobody was surprised anymore after you’ve been doing this for years.
Matt nodded back, looking to Kelly as both of their phones chimed. Matt could feel your heart rate suddenly increase under the finger tips he had pressed to your neck. Sweat was building up where your forehead met Matt’s neck as you curled forward with a tiny gasp.
“What’s wrong?” Kelly asked, kneeling to be eye level with you. They could see that your heart rate was high, but you don’t normally react like that.
You dug a hand into your chest as you curled a little bit further forward. “I-it hurts. L-like my heart it, it’s fluttering, but there’s th-this pain.” You grunted, reaching your free hand out to grab onto Matt’s open one.
Kelly nodded, looking at Matt again. Matt mouthed “get Brett.” They didn’t want to scare you, but Matt could feel the way you were shaking against him, drawing in ragged breaths with your eyes squeezed shut. This wasn’t normal for you. The last time this happened, you ended up in the hospital. It was years ago, around the time your dad died. Matt racked his brain for more details while Kelly pulled the door open and stepped out to grab the two girls in the bunk room.
You whimpered as the pain got worse. Matt shushed you and grabbed your hand, leaning it toward him so that he could check your heart rate on your watch. It was steadily climbing. 180.184.186. Every second that went by, the higher your heart rate seemed to climb.
Sylvie slipped into the room as Kelly held the door open and stood in the doorway, not wanting to crowd you since Violet was still coming back with the crash kit. “Hey girly. What’s going on? Hmm?” Sylvie asked, taking your hand from Matt to peek at the watch herself. She looked at the watch and then at Matt with the question clear in her eyes, and Matt just nodded, confirming that the reading was accurate as he rested two fingers on the pulse point in your neck once again.
“H-hurts.” You grunted out, squirming in Matt’s lap, tears involuntarily slipping down your face as you tried bearing down like Conner had taught you.
Sylvie nodded as Violet came into the room. “Okay sweetie. Let’s have Matt lay you on his bunk, okay?” She said, standing up and taking a few steps back to let Matt move. As he did, Sylvie leaned back to talk to Kelly. “Go tell Boden to take us out of commission. I don’t like this.” She whispered as she watched Matt lay you down and immediately start helping Violet get you sorted.
Kelly nodded and walked toward the chief’s office. He didn’t want to leave you, but you were in the best hands and he needed a task to do anyways. He isn’t one for standing around during an emergency, especially when it comes to family.
Once Kelly was gone, Sylvie put her stethoscope on and stepped toward the side of the bed that Matt was on. “Alright. Let’s take a listen.” Sylvie said, sliding into the space Matt evacuated for her. She listened and made sure to school her face as she heard your heart skipping beats. She calmly took the stethoscope from her ears and put it around her neck as she glanced at the monitors Violet had you on. “Definitely hearing some palpitations. I saw her attempting a vagal maneuver earlier.” Brett told Violet. “We are going to have to medicate and get her to med. Matt, I need you to call Jay and Will.” Sylvie said, as she looked for the medicine in the crash kit.
“61 to main.” Violet said into her radio as she charted your vitals.
“Go ahead 61.” The dispatcher responded.
“We are transferring a patient from 51. 26 year old female in SVT. Heading to Med.” Violet responded, waiting for the all clear before switching channels. “61 to Med.” Violet said, watching as Matt nodded when he got off the phone with Will.
“Go ahead 61.” Maggie responded.
“Maggie. We’ve got Y/n Halstead here at 51 getting ready for transport. Matt called Will. She’s had multiple episodes of SVT and is currently in another. Vagal maneuver did nothing. Brett is pushing meds and then we will transport once she is stable.” Violet relayed, looking up as Kelly walked in with Boden on his heels.
“Copy that 61. We will have Conner on standby. We’ll be ready for little Halstead. Med out.” Maggie said.
Boden stepped in and surveyed the scene. “We heard the dispatch. How yah doin kiddo?” Boden asked, squeezing your foot.
You shakily tilted your hand back and forth, trying to force your eyes to stay open as Brett and Violet moved in tandem around you. You heard Matt mumbling to someone on the phone, but you were fighting to stay conscious. Suddenly, you could hear a loud beeping as many people called your name.
———————
When you woke up, your hands were held by someone on each side. You heard three different voices as the world started coming back into view. You groaned, drawing the attention to yourself.
“Hey kiddo. It’s alright.” Will whispered, standing from his chair to lean over you. You peeled your eyes open and looked up at your oldest brother, relishing in the comfort of his presence.
“Mmm. W-what happened?” You whisper, mouth feeling dry.
Jay stood and took the cup that Conner passed him from the table at the end of your bed. He eased the straw past your cracked lips and let you take a few sips before he pulled away. When you whined, he chuckled. “I know. Don’t want you making yourself sick. Gotta take it slow.” Jay placated, placing the water back on the table as he switched places with Conner.
“You gave us quite the scare young lady.” Conner said, getting his stethoscope out and taking a listen to your heart. “Much better now though. No flutter or anything.” Conner said, running a hand through your hair fondly. “You were at 51 and had a serious episode of SVT. Sylvie and Matt had to do compression when your heart stopped suddenly. They medicated and sedated you to tube you. We needed to let your heart rest for a little while, so we just recently weened you off the sedation and the vent.” Conner explained, stepping back to give Jay his spot back.
“I-I died?” You asked, eyes wide with fear. You looked between the three men as they all looked at each other. Finally, Jay spoke up.
“Yes, but only for a couple minutes. Violet was quick with the meds and Brett had you tubed and back in no time.” Jay soothed, clutching your hand in his.
“How l-long?” You asked Conner. “H-how long w-was I out?” You asked, wondering if you missed the holidays.
Conner smiled, squeezing your foot once more. “Don’t worry. It was only for 48 hours.” Conner soothed.
“Before you ask, your exam for your last class was waved and they are using the mean score of all your exams from the semester. We also brought your Christmas presents for you to keep you occupied and so you could finish them while you are resting here for the next 48 hours.” Will said, pulling the bag out and placing it at the foot of your bed. “We want to keep an eye on you. We already have a rotating schedule so that your never alone, and I can pop in during my shift tomorrow.” Will supplied, kissing the back of your hand as you settled.
You knew better to fight them, but you were also grateful to be here and alive. You felt safer being watched for a few more days, even though you hate hospitals as much as Jay. At least you’d have people by your side and plenty of presents to finish making to keep you occupied.

“Hey, you wanna grab dinner?” Will asked as he opened his locker next to you.
You glanced back at him, your eyes betraying the mental exhaustion from the day. Losing children was never easy, everyone knew that.
You gave Will a small smile. “No date with Connor?” You lightly teased.
Will chuckled.
Will and Connor had been dancing around each other for almost forever and it had taken you an unbelievable amount of self control not to literally bonk their heads together. Thankfully, they’d gotten off their asses before you had to.
“Connor got pulled into a surgery so I got stood up.”
You let out a small laugh, closing your locker. “Your brother’s on a case so… dinner’s on you.”
Will laughed, nodding. “I got you.”
The both of you ended up in one of the eateries you frequented that was near Med which opened late exactly for this reason - a place that had saved all of you from many late nights. Be it when Jay came to get you from a late shift, or when you, Connor and Will needed to eat after a shift before going to crash. All four of you had even been here together shortly after the shift in dynamics - you and Jay had just gotten married, while Will and Connor had finally started seeing each other officially.
In an effort to steer both your thoughts away from work, Will started a conversation about Connor, and you watched a light in Will’s eyes as he talked about Connor, a light that had finally let its way out into the world.
“What?” Will asked, angling his eyebrows at you before you realized you were smiling cheekily at him.
You shrugged. “Just nice to see you so happy.”
Will smiled, reaching over to ruffle your hair.
“You know you transitioned into this annoying older brother role way too smoothly.” You growled playfully, your eyes narrowing at him.
Will laughed, retracting his hand and chuckling.
Tumblr media
“Y/N?”
Jay’s voice reached you first before you saw him but it still made you smile.
“You said you were going to be late?” You said but you were already looping your arms around his waist and pressing yourself into his embrace.
Jay let out a small chuckle. “Sorry, I know things have been a little crazy.”
You shook your head, burying your face deeper into his shoulder. “I just missed you.”
Jay leaned back before leaning back down to press a gentle kiss to your lips. “Shall we stay in tonight?”
You grinned back at him. “Sounds perfect.”
It felt like it had been a while since you and Jay had done this, just stayed in, the television turned on while the two of you had a cozy meal before cuddling on the couch with the wine glasses sitting just a little precariously on the small coffee table Will and Connor had gotten the both of you as a wedding present.
“Everything at work okay?” Jay asked quietly, his arms resting around your waist.
“You know, same-old. We have the bullies, the overbearing parents, but there are also families that remind me why I became a doctor.”
Jay rested his chin gently on your shoulder, his cheek resting lightly against yours before he closed his eyes.
“I think that if you’re here, if I know that I get to come home to you at the end of any day or case, I’ll be able to do about anything.” He whispered.
You knew that voice, the voice that told you he'd had a hard day.
You took his hand gently in yours. “I’ll always be here, Jay. At the end of every difficult case, or day, no matter what.”
Jay pressed a kiss to your cheek lightly and you leaned further back into his embrace.
Tumblr media
“Dr Y/L/N, someone’s asking for you in the waiting room if you have a few minutes.” One of the nurses came up to you as you were studying a patient’s chart.
You looked around the ED, it was a quiet sort of day but you weren’t in the best of moods since you’d lost your card holder. Just thinking about having to replace your credit cards already made you feel tired and anxious. Regardless, you nodded with a smile at the nurse, thanking her for letting you know.
Putting on your best professional smile you headed towards the waiting room, scanning the crowd for someone who looked like they’d be waiting for you.
A woman who was about your age made eye contact with you, giving you a small smile. “Y/N Y/L/N?”
You frowned just a little in confusion although you kept your expression mostly neutral and nodded. She seemed a little familiar to you even though you weren’t fully certain where you’d seen her before.
The woman just smiled, handing you back a card case that was most definitely yours.
“I think you dropped this, this morning at the coffee place. I got your name from one of your cards and luckily the cafe said you were a regular so they knew you worked here.”
You felt the relief flood your system, the anxiety that had been clawing at you the whole morning finally seeming to let up.
“Oh my god, thank you.” You could even hear the relief in your voice bounce back at you but you weren't even embarrassed. “You saved me a lot of trouble and well... stress.”
You paused as you looked at her. “I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before. Have we met?”
The woman just smiled and shook her head. “Maybe in the mornings, I get my coffee there too most days.”
It didn’t feel like a correct answer but you let it go, reminding yourself this was not the time to obsess over unimportant details.
“Look, you did me a huge favor today. Is there something I can do to thank you?”
The woman just smiled. “Maybe you can just buy me a coffee. Tomorrow morning?”
You studied her for a bit and then nodded. She smiled, extending her hand. “Grace.”
You smiled back at her and shook it, agreeing to see each other the next morning at the cafe.
As you watched her walk back out the main door with a friendly wave, you felt that weird feeling again, like something wasn’t quite sitting right with you.
You definitely knew her from somewhere.
Tumblr media
As agreed, you’d met Grace the next morning at your morning coffee stop and it had gone better than you'd expected, so much so that you’d talked yourself out of that weird feeling in your gut, putting it down to that tinge of social anxiety you had with new people.
You’d almost caved and asked Will or Connor if they could come with you but decided you didn’t really wanna be a wuss. Besides, the rational part of your brain was telling you that your anxiety was being irrational once again.
Grace had been easy to talk to though, so you were glad you hadn’t overreacted.
But when you opened the door to the doctors’ lounge armed with coffees for both Connor and Will, you sensed something was off.
Will was sitting on the couch, his head ticked up just a little as the door opened and Connor’s arm was around Will’s shoulders, Will gently pressed up against Connor. Even though it was no secret, they didn't usually behave much like a couple at work.
“What’s wrong?” You asked, frowning as you quickly put the coffees down on the table and headed towards them.
Will glanced at Connor. “I’m fine.”
Connor gave him half an exasperated look, even though you could still see the frown lines tinged with worry.
Will might be your brother-in-law, but way before you and Jay had gotten close, the three of you had always been great friends so it wasn’t surprising you could tell they were holding something back.
You raised an eyebrow at Connor. “Someone better tell me what’s going on.”
Will exchanged a look with Connor before he gave him a small nod.
“She’s back.”
She.
You knew exactly who Connor was talking about. That was the part that really made you feel like shit.
Will had been reluctant to call it stalking at first, reluctant to put Jay on this even though the laws on stalking had already greatly improved the past few years. But now it seemed like Will was getting concerned too.
“Will, maybe we need to tell Jay about this.” You said gently, even though you understood why Will didn’t want to tell Jay and make it all official.
Will just nodded. “Maybe. I’ll talk to him.”
Connor glanced at Will before squeezing his hand gently. “I’ll see you later, alright? I've got a surgery."
With a quick kiss, Will and Connor parted and you nodded at Connor to assure him that you were here anyway.
Tumblr media
Will had told himself that if it persisted he'd go to Jay but she'd suddenly stopped showing up. The notes stopped and the street was empty when Will left the house.
“Maybe she finally gave up. Like she had one last look and she left.” You said, even though just saying it sounded stupid.
Will just smiled back, asking everyone to stop worrying.
“Y/N, you’re wanted in the waiting room.” Maggie called across the ED and you nodded, patting Will on the arm before heading straight out, shrugging at Maggie.
You’d barely stepped out of the automatic doors when you saw her.
“Grace?”
She looked a little frazzled, like she was startled.
“Y/N, thank god. I didn’t know anyone else and…”
You frowned, stopping her with a hand on her arm. “Okay, slow down. What’s going on?”
“My friend, she got hurt and I don’t think I can move her. It’s just at the next street. Can you…”
You frowned. “How is she hurt, Grace? What happened?”
Grace shook her head. “I don’t know, can you just…”
You took a glance back at Leah, who nodded at you quickly disappearing back into the ED.
Feeling certain that whoever it was that Leah alerted would be able to catch up to you quickly, you let Grace lead you out of the ED, so preoccupied that you didn’t notice the shift in the look in her eyes.
Tumblr media
“Anything?”
Will asked, jogging up towards Ethan who shook his head.
Having just gotten a bit of time between patients, Will and Ethan had come out after you almost immediately but somehow you were nowhere to be found.
Will already had his phone pressed to his ear but while it had been ringing earlier, it was now dead.
“Are we sure…” Will’s voice trailed off as his eye caught on something right by the side of the sidewalk. “Wait.”
Will bent down, picking it up. There was no mistaking it, Will thought, as the key-shaped pendant from your necklace lay in his palm. “This is hers. I better call Jay.”
Tumblr media
The ringing in Jay’s ears hadn’t stopped since he’d heard from Will.
With no hesitation whatsoever, Voight had sent Jay and Hailey along to Med, while Kim went straight to try to track movements from traffic pods.
Jay frowned now as he leaned over the computer in the security office with Hailey, watching as you spoke to a woman in the waiting room, her face not fully visible from the angle she was standing at.
Hailey glanced at Jay. “She knows where the cameras are.”
Jay nodded absentmindedly, his eyes locked on the image of you leaving the hospital - the last time any of your colleagues had seen you.
Jay ran a hand across his face as he tried to empty his brain to think. Nothing made sense. It didn’t make sense why anyone would want to take you. There’d been no violent patients that you had mentioned recently and everyone Hailey had spoken to earlier couldn’t think of anyone from the past few months either. Sure, there’d been difficult patients and family members but no one that jumped out as being dangerous.
Which meant they had no starting point. And Jay was worried that his brain was too clouded with worry to even think straight. He felt like he was missing something.
“Jay. Here.” Will said, his voice quiet as he put the necklace in Jay’s hand.
Jay’s eyes lingered for a while on the pendant now and Will glanced at his brother worriedly, unable to even imagine being in Jay’s shoes right now.
“Jay, if you…”
Will was interrupted as Jay’s phone rang, his eyes wandering towards the screen of the image capture.
What the hell?
Will glanced up again where Jay was still talking on the phone, before his eyes found the screen again, feeling the knot in his gut seemingly grow in size.
“Will, I just heard.” Connor’s voice broke Will out of what was almost a trance, turning to look at Connor.
Connor registered the look in Will’s eyes almost immediately, his eyes flitting to the screen before he glanced at Will. “That’s…”
“What?” Jay asked now, joining them again as he finished talking to Kim.
Will could barely look his brother in the eye as he glanced up.
“Her name is Grace. Grace Turner.”
Jay frowned. “You know this woman?”
Will exchanged a look with Connor, who merely squeezed his hand. “She's been stalking me."
Tumblr media
The room was still spinning but at least it seemed to be slowing down.
Grace had her back to you as she fiddled with something on her table. You knew you should have trusted your gut.
From the beginning, something had felt off about her, like she was being too friendly. But then you’d put it down to your social anxiety, swallowing it down like a bad pill.
Yet now, as you became more aware of the ache around your shoulders from your arms being pulled towards your back, feel the rough material of whatever she’d used to tie your wrists together, you knew your gut had been right all along. You should have just listened to it.
Just as you were trying to figure what the hell you were supposed to do, Grace turned to look at you.
Her lips curled up into a smile that you’d never seen on her face before, something that made the feeling of unease balloon up in the pit of your stomach.
“You’re awake.”
You frowned, your eyes scanning her expression for more clues.
“Grace, what’s going on? What… is this?” You asked, trying your best to keep your voice level and calm, as you’d done many times in the course of your work in the ED, regardless of what you were feeling.
Grace looked back at you, blinking. “I’ve been trying to figure out why he likes you. There’s nothing truly outstanding, you know?”
You frowned.
“What?”
You weren’t sure if she wasn’t making sense or if your head was still kind of spinning from inhaling whatever drug she’d soaked that cloth with before she’d pressed it against your mouth and nose earlier.
Grace turned back to look at you now and you didn’t like the glint in her eye. “I’ve been trying to figure it out for weeks, why he's been keeping his distance. And then I saw you with him, and then I knew. It was you. You’re the one standing between us.”
You frowned, your mind spinning as you tried to figure out what she was getting at. Jay hadn’t mentioned anything in particular and you were sure if there’d been someone following the both of you around, he’d have said something or changed up the routine for the both of you.
“You… what? Listen, if there’s…”
Grace didn’t seem to be listening though. “Is it because you’re both doctors?”
Both…
“You.” You couldn’t hide the contempt in your voice as you realized this was her. She was the woman who’d been stressing Will out.
Nervous as you were, your gut still feeling like it was flipped inside out, you also felt annoyance and the extreme urge to protect someone you cared about despite the situation you were in.
Even with the ache in your arms, you glared up at her. “If you really cared about him, you wouldn’t be doing this.”
Grace turned back towards you, the anger in her eyes more pronounced now. “No one cares about him more than I do!”
You didn’t avert your eyes, the anger you felt bubbling over in you overtaking the fear and uncertainty that was still hanging over you.
“Not even his brother?” Your voice was still even, as you looked at her. “You took me because you thought Will and I were seeing each other?”
Grace didn’t say anything, just narrowed her eyes at you.
“If we really were seeing each other, did you think taking me here was going to solve anything?”
Grace exhaled loudly. “I’ve been watching you with him.”
You studied Grace, feeling your thoughts swirl. She’d been so obsessed with Will, that she saw you when you were with him but she didn’t watch you any further. She didn’t see the times that you went home or on dates with Jay. You were actually more surprised she didn’t know about Connor.
“So what do you actually want?”
Your eyes flicked to the scissors she had in her hand as you finished your question, before she stepped towards you.
Tumblr media
Jay was quite literally going out of his mind.
They’d matched the woman’s identity, and went straight to her last known address but the apartment looked like it hadn’t been lived in for months judging by the layer of dust that had settled on the furniture. What they did find was a bunch of photos of Will scattered along the walls and other corners of the apartment.
Jay could feel the anger building inside him. Even if this crazy woman hadn’t taken you right under everyone’s nose, the fact that this was somehow connected to his brother was pissing him off so much it was taking all his effort not to punch something.
The sounds of fingers dancing across keyboards, as well as the sound of rifling papers reminded Jay that he needed to keep his head in the game.
“Hey, Jay.”
Jay glanced up to see Connor heading out of the pantry where he’d been with Will, his eyes flicking towards the back view of his brother before he nodded.
“Listen, I was thinking. Will mentioned he’s seen her around his apartment a few times, so couldn’t we…”
Jay froze. “Wait, what?”
Connor frowned. “He didn’t say anything to you?”
Jay’s eyes flicked back in the direction of his brother. “He should have told me about this when it happened.” His voice was slightly reproachful but Connor could hear the tinge of worry as well.
Connor just nodded, realizing he needed to tell Jay almost everything.
“So, can we…”
Jay’s mind was already there as he nodded, leaning back down over his computer, trying to run matches between Grace’s known family and acquaintances with recent rentals near Will’s apartment.
Jay’s eyes scanned the screen in front of him quickly before he paused. “Ruz, what did you say her sister’s name was?”
“Kayla.”
Jay frowned. “I have a Kayla Lloyd here.”
Kim was right on it. “I think you’re on the right track. Kayla Turner married Nash Lloyd three years ago.”
The team exchanged looks. Hailey nodded. “It’s the best we got so far. I say we go.”
Voight was already standing at his office door before he nodded. “Let’s go.”
Tumblr media
Connor glanced at Will from where they were sitting in the back of Jay’s truck.
Will was glancing out, his fist curled into a ball as it rested on the seat between him and Connor. It wasn’t that he was that affected by this woman, but the fact that he hadn’t done anything which ultimately got the people around him dragged in was really eating at him.
Jay glanced at his brother through the rear view mirror before training his eyes back on the road. He didn’t have the capacity to think of anyone else but you right now. He didn’t know how to. But he could feel the fear clawing at him, but he just exhaled slowly, turning the corner towards the address they’d found earlier.
Tumblr media
You exhaled, hearing Grace pacing outside the bedroom she’d put you in.
Your eyes darted around the room, your brain feeling like it was finally clearing up enough for you to form thoughts that were coherent enough for you to take in other details you hadn’t noticed earlier, like your phone sitting on the dresser.
Grace had been a little out for it for a while, alternating between mumbling to herself or ranting at you about Will. You hadn’t exactly pointed out the fact that you weren’t Will’s girlfriend, like she’d been thinking when she’d grabbed you. Other than the insinuation that had seemed to pass right over her head, you weren’t sure if it was going to make things worse if you pointed out that there was nothing going on between you and Will.
But you needed to do something.
You struggled a little to get to your feet, especially considering that your hands and feet were bound together but you managed to stand a little shakily with minimal sound, feeling a bead of sweat travel down the side of your face.
Gritting your teeth to try not to make any other sound, you gently hopped, grateful that at least she’d put a carpet on her bedroom floor. You angled your body, wobbling backwards as you neared the dresser, your hands finally closing around your phone. You fumbled with your fingers trying to at least turn it on so that Jay could somehow find you. You felt like it was forever, trying to wait for the stupid logo to disappear and for the phone to start but you’d just turned around again to peer at the screen when the door opened.
You froze as you watched the look on Grace’s face shift to one of rage as she took in the scene before her.
She lunged and you threw yourself out of the way, your eyes not missing the fact that she was still gripping onto the scissors in her hand. Your phone slid out of your hands and onto the floor with a thud and you felt your heart sink with it as you tried to reposition yourself on the floor, trying to ignore the shooting pains from the shoulder you’d landed on.
But you knew it was useless, especially as you heard her frustrated breath and a low growl before you felt yourself get yanked up by the hair.
She was freakishly strong for a woman her size.
That was the thought that entered your mind as you tried to regain as much balance as you could. You felt your breath catch in your throat as the threatening cold metal blades hovered near your neck right before the door crashed open.
You’d never felt such a sense of safety overwhelm you until you saw your husband’s face now, his gun ticked up high, his eyes betraying a mixed look of relief and worry at the same time, if that was even possible.
“Y/N.” Your name left his lips like a reflex, his eyes locked directly on yours, even the unspoken words putting you slowly at ease.
Jay was here.
Jay’s eyes flicked towards the woman standing behind you who looked as startled as a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming car.
“Put the scissors down.”
You heard the effort it took for Jay to keep his voice steady, knowing that it would just take something small for Jay to lose it. So you locked your eyes on his, even though you felt the anxiety once again eat at you.
Grace hadn’t reacted and Jay kept his gun raised, his trained eyes looking around the room.
“Stay out of this.” Grace forced the words out through her clenched teeth. “I wouldn’t have done this if she didn’t…”
Her words trailed off as your body froze, your eyes catching the flash of ginger at the door.
“Will.” You felt the jolt of worry hit you, interrupted only by a growl from behind you, the scissors that inched dangerously closer towards your neck reminding you that maybe you shouldn’t have said his name.
Will’s eyes lighted on yours and despite the predicament you found yourself in, you wanted to smack him upside the head for that guilt swimming in his eyes.
Your eyes moved back towards Jay’s and he nodded discreetly at you.
“Grace. Listen to me. Put it down and we can all talk, alright?” Jay said quietly, lowering his gun just a little as a show of faith.
Grace frowned, her eyes flicking up towards Will before she spoke. “All I needed to do was get rid of her, right?”
Will’s frown deepened just slightly as he absorbed what Grace was saying.
“I was just getting rid of the obstacles standing in our way.” Grace said, her voice cracking just a little. “I see the way you look at her, but if it wasn’t for her, we'd be together!"
Will glanced at you and you frowned just as his eyes flicked back to Grace, his head shaking slowly. “I need you to let her go. Can’t you see you’re hurting everyone?”
You heard Will’s voice crack softly, Jay’s eyes flicking towards his older brother as well.
“She’s my… she’s my sister. There’s nothing… You… you’ve misunderstood.”
You could hear how much it was killing Will to keep his voice even and steady, when he was just as close to losing his cool as Jay was.
You felt Grace’s hold on you loosen just a little as her focus shifted entirely to Will. “Your…”
She shook her head, her shaking hand once again inching closer towards you. “I’ve seen the both of you… you don’t have a sister, don’t lie to me!”
“It’s true.” Will said quietly, glancing at Jay who nodded, now lowering his gun even more, Hailey stepping just half a step forward in case.
“Grace.” Jay said quietly. “Look at me.”
As Grace turned her attention to him, Jay exhaled gently. “You know me, don’t you? If you know Will as well as you do.”
Grace nodded slowly. “I just want my wife back.” He said quietly and you heard the quiet crack in his voice, one that only you would have picked up on. “Just give her back to me, please.”
“Your…”
Grace angled her head back down to you and you nodded. “I tried to tell you.”
Caught off-guard, Grace looked like she wasn’t sure what to do next. In her hesitation, her hand holding the blade moved slightly away from you, hovering off to the side and Jay nodded at you.
You threw yourself in the opposite direction, falling back down onto the ground with a crash, the pain in your shoulder causing you to groan. Jay lunged towards Grace, the metal blades of the scissors clattering across the ground as she lost grip.
“Y/N, are you hurt?”
Will’s voice reached you first and you opened your eyes, the groan escaping your lips. “My shoulder. I think…”
Jay was back at your side as Hailey took over the arrest, slicing through the cables around your wrists quickly. The relief was almost immediate and a quiet sigh escaped your lips as the pressure of your arms being pulled behind you was released, even though your shoulder still gave a small throb.
“Are you hurt?” Jay’s voice was quiet but you could feel every single emotion that pulsated through those three words.
You winced as Will’s fingers applied pressure on your shoulder but Will glanced up a little guiltily at his brother, shaking his head. “It’s a little strained but I don’t think it’s a serious injury.”
“Chloroform I think.” You told Will, glancing a little worriedly at Jay for an impending reaction.
Instead, Jay just leaned in, pressing you gently into his embrace, as if worried you’d disappear right out of his arms.
You felt tears well up in your eyes as the adrenaline still pumped through your veins, the anxiety from everything that had happened pulling to the surface, a quiet sob escaping through your lips.
Putting a gentle hand on your head, Jay pulled you deeper into his embrace, soothing you quietly and as you felt your heartbeat slow, you didn’t feel like crying anymore.
Tumblr media
The only time Jay had let go of your hand was briefly in the ambulance when the paramedics needed to put a line in, as well as when Ethan had asked him to wait outside and you’d nodded quietly at him with an encouraging smile.
But the moment Ethan had let him back in, Jay was once again next to you almost like a bodyguard while Ethan assured him that everything seemed to be okay except that your shoulder was slightly bruised from the fall and that you were getting an ice compress and they’d examine you again after.
As Ethan left the both of you alone in the room again, you leaned your head against Jay with a soft sigh.
“You doing okay?” Jay asked quietly.
You didn’t answer immediately before you nodded. “You heard Ethan.”
“You know that wasn’t what I was asking.” A reproachful tone crept into Jay’s voice despite his efforts to hide it.
You pulled away to look up at him and Jay took the opportunity to lower himself down towards you, sitting at the edge of your bed so he could be close enough for you to remain snuggled into his side.
“I remembered where I knew her from…” You’d barely begun when your eyes caught Will hovering at the entrance of the room.
Jay glanced up, nodding at his brother who was closely followed by Connor. Connor had Will’s hand protectively clamped in his own, which only made you want to smile.
“Hey, you doing okay?” Will asked. “Ethan said whatever she gave you was probably just a sedative and that other than a busted shoulder you’re…”
You smiled. “I’m fine.”
Will glanced at Jay, which made you look at your husband as well.
“Look, Y/N. I’m sorry. This is all…”
“Will Halstead.” You snapped, interrupting him. “I swear to God, if you take all the blame for this one I will smack you upside the head. Hard.”
You narrowed your eyes at him as Will looked a little startled, even though a smile was playing on the corner of Connor’s lips.
“How the hell were any of us supposed to know this was her? Or that this woman following you around would actually think I was your girlfriend and kidnap me in broad daylight?” You said, glancing over at Jay as if this was directed at him as well.
Jay just nodded at you before looking at his brother. “Will, I wasn’t blaming you, I just…”
Will nodded. “I know. I kept thinking if Connor had disappeared…”
Connor gave Will’s hand another reassuring squeeze.
“We done?” You asked, almost accusingly at Will.
Will’s eyebrows bunched together in slight confusion as he nodded.
“Now, get over here. I need a hug from my older brother.” You snapped.
Will let out the first real smile that day and stepped forward to pull his arms around you. “I’m sorry.” Will whispered.
You shook your head. “All of you came to get me. That’s what matters.”
Will pulled away and Connor reached for his hand once more. “Told you so.”
You smiled, leaning back into Jay’s embrace. “You almost induced a heart attack today. Don’t ever disappear on me again.” Jay whispered, pressing his lips onto your temple.
You just closed your eyes, letting out a soft hum of satisfaction at being safe with Jay, accompanied by Will and Connor, the ache in your shoulder barely even bothering you anymore.

I’m not sure if you do halstead sister reader but if you do I would love a Halsteads sister reader and Connor Rhodes request. 🥺 the reader is dating Connor and has a ovarian cyst rupture.
Thanks girlie! ❤️🥰I love your page!
Connor Rhodes- Everything Will be Ok
Tumblr media
Trigger warning- Ovarian Cyst ruptures, nausea, vomiting, hospital, needles
YN Halstead had been looking forward to her day off for weeks. She woke to the sound of her alarm clock blaring. Today was supposed to be her day, her day to relax and have a bit of time to herself. As she stretched out in bed, the sun filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across her room. Her dog, a Labrador named Jasper, stretched beside her.
After a quick shower and some breakfast, YN decided she would take Jasper for a walk. She wandered to the park letting Jasper off the lead and sat down at a bench as she felt a familiar discomfort in her lower abdomen. YN had been diagnosed with ovarian cysts a few years ago, and while they were often benign and manageable. She watched as Jasper ran around with a few other dogs, hoping the discomfort would pass soon, oh how she was wrong.
Only 10 minutes pass by and YN decides to make her way home before the discomfort gets worse. As she stands YN begins to feel dizzy so slowly sits back down
“Hi are you ok?” A woman YN doesn’t know comes over to her
“Oh erm yeah, I’m just a bit dizzy. Ill be ok I’m a moment”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes don’t worry”
With a few moments of sitting down YN begins to feel slightly better so gets up and walks home with Jasper in tow. Getting home YN gets a blanket and lays on the couch, this whole time YN just felt uncomfortable, but suddenly YN feels a sharp pain in her stomach and a sudden bout of nausea hits her. She runs to the bathroom, managing to make it to the toilet before bringing up the contents of her stomach. She hears her phone ringing, but with no energy and the dizzy feeling coming back, YN doesn’t move. Her phone rings again, but again she ignore it now throwing up stomach acid.
Eventually, when YN stops throwing up, she goes to find her phone seeing that her brother Jay has phoned her and text her saying he was coming over. Just as she goes to reply she hears a knock on the door and Jasper starts barking. YN attempts to get up but fails due to how weak she is feeling. Jay, luckily having his key on him, unlocks YNs front door
“YN?” He calls out
“Bathroom” YNs voice only just reaching her older brothers ears. Jay makes his was to the bathroom to find YN sat on the floor with her head and arms leaning on the toilet
“YN what’s wrong?”
“Jay” YNs voice breaks “I'm not feeling well. I think I need to see a doctor. I think one of my cysts might ruptured”
“Shit. Ok let's get you to the hospital” Jay says without hesitation, pulling out his phone to call their brother Will.
The ride to the hospital was a blur. YN could barely focus on the passing scenery, her mind swirling with worry. When they arrived at the hospital, Will was already waiting at the entrance, Jay explains to Will YNs symptoms as YN is pushed into the hospital in a wheelchair. Due to the rule of family members can’t tend to each other, YN is seen by Choi. Moments later, Connor entered the room in a panic
“What's going on?” he asks quickly moving to YN's side, taking her hand in his
“Cysts” Choi explains already preparing the ultrasound machine “we need to check for any ruptures or complications” Connor squeezes YN's hand gently, as Choi applied the cool gel to her abdomen. The ultrasound wand glides over her skin, YN focuses on Connor's reassuring presence “ok there's a rupture, you’ll need surgery, but before you all panic I want to do a laparoscopy. It will be less invasive and the recovery time will be short.
The room buzzed with activity as nurses and technicians prepared for the procedure. YN felt a flutter of panic rise in her chest
“What if something goes wrong?” she asks voice trembling
“YN listen to me” Will steps closer, his face serious but gentle “complications can happen, but Ethan is going to do everything he can to prevent that. Like he said key hole is less invasive. You’ve got this”
“Ok ready?” Choi asks. YN takes a deep breath and nods
“Do you want me to stay with you until you go under?” Connor asks
“Yes, please”
The team worked efficiently, preparing her for surgery while explaining each step of the process. YN listened intently, trying to absorb the information and push aside the anxiety that threatened to overwhelm her. She focused on the sounds around her-the beeping of machines, the rustling of scrubs, and the soft murmurs of the medical staff-as they prepped her for what lay ahead.
YN drifted in and out of consciousness. She could hear voices distant and muffled, yet comforting. The sound of her brothers' laughter, Connor's gentle reassurances, and the beeping of machines created a symphony of familiarity that wrapped around her like a warm blanket. Gradually, she became aware of her surroundings. The sterile scent of the hospital was still present, but now there was a softness to it, a sense of safety. She blinked her eyes open, the light above her bright
“Hey YN. You're okay” Will says his voice steady “the surgery went well. Ethan removed the ruptured cyst and everything looks good. You'll need some time to recover, but you're going to be fine”
“Connor?”
“He's right outside. I’ll go get him” As Will adjusted her blankets and checked her vitals, before going to the room door YN closed her eyes for a moment, allowing herself to breathe deeply. She felt the warmth of her family surrounding her, the love and support that had always been a part of her life. When she opened her eyes again, Connor was standing beside her, his expression a mix of relief and affection
“Hey there, sleepyhead. How are you feeling?” Connor asks, leaning closer, his voice low and soothing
“Tired and feel a bit sick”
“That will be the anaesthesia. I’ll see if we can get you some anti sickness”
“Ok. What happens now? When can I go home?”
“They'll keep you here for a couple of days to monitor your progress, and then you'll have to take it easy at home. No heavy lifting or strenuous activities for a while, luckily for you, you have a very amazing and handsome boyfriend who will be home for the next week, plus he’s a doctor so I think you’ll be in good hands”
“Is Jasper ok?”
“Yes don’t worry. Jays gone to check on him. Get some rest, YN” Will says softly, noticing her struggle to keep her eyes open”
“Love you guys” YN mutters before unconsciousness takes ahold of her.

Chicago PD/Med Masterlist
Jay Halstead
Not today
Summary: You were partners long before Hailey was. It didn't help that you were in love with him
Not like I used to part 2
Summary: Finally you were able to move on
Out of love with you
Summary: He wasn’t even sure when it happened or more importantly, how. Like everything else it was slow at first, not noticeable by even the most trained eye, but eventually anyone within a twenty foot radius could tell he wasn’t even close to being in love with you.
Connor rhodes
My Love
Summary: If one thing about life was guaranteed, it's that absolutely nothing about life is guaranteed. Waking up, going to work, coming home at the end of the day, none of it was promised.

Who are your mutuals or friends on here – and – who do you want to be your mutuals or friends?
Before I go into this I want to say. If you're looking for friends on here, want to talk about writing, fandoms, couple cannon or not message me! I love to talk to new people. My writing and coming on here has slowed a bit but I'm happy to talk!
It was nice to go through all these and reread some of the stories I loved and see if anything was new.
Mutuals that I talk to often
@polkadotpenguin16 and I talk often. I follow her stories and we often preread each other's stuff. Also just a generally awesome human. If you like Sonny Carisi (SVU) she has quite a few stories out now. And she gives awesome recs!
@chicaotaku17 and I have recently started chatting. They recently started writing for Chicago One. They have started a light hearted HalsteadSister fic if that is your jam.
People I follow & Recommend
I put some of these in another post but they deserve the credit and maybe this will help more people find them! Seriously check them out!
@felicitysmoaksx writes fanfics for Jay Halstead & Kim Burgess (Burgstead) for my followers who found me reading RRR. They also have a wide variety of stories for Connor Rhodes/ Sarah Reese that I love! It's my two favorite couples to read for One Chicago and they are both near impossible to find.
@tropes-and-tales-archives has awesome Sonny Carisi content that I reread probably a little too much. Whistle Down The Wind is probably my favorite at this point.
@bullet-prooflove writes for so many different fandoms and does a damn good job at it. Be warned if you start going through their masterlists you will be there for days. Totally worth the hyperfixation! I go back to comfort read all the time.
@plaidbooks SVU content- you will definitely spend some time on this page before you run out of things to read! Nick Amaro and Joe Velasco got it for me.
@svuwritings SVU mostly Nick Amarou and Sonny Carisi
@itsgrimeytime has great Rick Grimes content but I don't think they are actively posting anymore. Still, check them out!
@crossbowking Some of the best damn Daryl Dixon stories you will ever read. They capture him perfectly. Binge to your heart's content.
@arrowenchantress reblogs a lot of stories I like which introduces me to new authors. I think it's Rick Grimes and Logan Howlett (X-men) content that brought me to the page.
@storiesofsvu has so many fandoms for you to choose from SVU, Chicago PD, Criminal Minds, and NCIS
@fightmewiatch I'm pretty sure that Nick Torres content brought me to their page. But I keep around to read their Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers, and Teen Wolf content.
@pascalispretty SVU stories. Sonny Carisi and Nick Armaro. They also have SonnyxRafael if that tickles your fancy.
@angelwings-crossbowstrings Daryl Dixon stories- need I say more. Enjoy

In Sickness and in Health
Summary: Y/N has a POTS episode at home, and Connor calls her brothers, Will and Jay, to help when her heart rate won’t stabilize. Though Y/N is reluctant to worry them, the brothers reassure her and make it clear they’ll always be there for her.
Tumblr media
Y/N sat curled up on the couch, a blanket draped over her legs as she flipped absentmindedly through a book. Connor was in the kitchen, humming softly as he prepared dinner. The faint aroma of pasta wafted through the air, a comforting smell that normally would have made her smile. But tonight, something felt… off.
Her chest felt tight, her heart pounding faster than usual. She took a deep breath, trying to shake the dizziness creeping in. Maybe it was just dehydration. Grabbing the glass of water Connor had left for her, she took a few sips and hoped it would pass.
But it didn’t.
Tumblr media
“Connor…” her voice trembled, barely louder than a whisper.
He appeared almost instantly, concern etched into his face as he crouched in front of her. “What’s wrong, sweetheart?”
She clutched her chest, her breathing shallow. “It’s… it’s happening again. My heart’s racing, and I feel like I’m going to pass out.”
Connor’s medical instincts kicked in immediately. He didn’t panic—he never did—but there was a sharpness to his movements as he assessed her. He gently helped her lie down on the couch, elevating her legs with a cushion.
“Okay, stay with me,” he said, his tone calm but firm. “Let’s slow your breathing. In through your nose, out through your mouth.”
She tried to follow his instructions, but the dizziness only worsened. “Connor… I-I can’t…”
He reached for the pulse oximeter he always kept in the living room drawer, slipping it onto her finger. His jaw tightened as he saw her heart rate spiking. “You’re okay, Y/N. I’ve got you. Just focus on my voice.”
He retrieved a glass of water with an electrolyte tablet dissolved in it and held it to her lips. “Sip this. Slowly.”
She obeyed, though her hands trembled as she held the glass. The fear in her eyes broke his heart.
The Decision
For the next fifteen minutes, Connor worked to stabilize her, but her heart rate remained stubbornly high, and her breathing was still labored. She was pale and visibly drained. He knew she needed more help.
“Sweetheart,” he said softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face, “I think I need to call Will and Jay.”
Her eyes widened in alarm. “No… please, Connor. Don’t. I don’t want them to worry.”
“They’ll want to know,” he argued gently. “And honestly, I could use their help right now. They love you—they’ll understand.”
Tears pricked at her eyes, but she gave a small nod, too exhausted to argue further. “Okay… just don’t let them freak out.”
“I promise,” he said, pressing a kiss to her forehead before stepping away to make the calls.
The Halstead Brothers Arrive
Jay arrived first, having bolted from the district the moment Connor called. His face was tight with worry as he rushed into the apartment. “Sweetheart,” he said, dropping to his knees beside the couch. “What happened?”
She gave him a weak smile, her voice barely audible. “Just… my heart being dramatic.”
Jay glanced at Connor, his protective instincts in overdrive. “Is she okay?”
“She’ll be fine,” Connor assured him. “Her heart rate’s been stubborn, but I’ve been managing it. I didn’t want to risk her being alone if it got worse.”
Will arrived moments later, a medical bag slung over his shoulder. His eyes scanned his sister, taking in her pale complexion and shallow breaths. “Honey,” he murmured, kneeling on her other side. “How bad is it?”
“I’m okay,” she insisted, though her voice wavered. “Really.”
Connor gave Will a rundown of her symptoms and what he’d already done. The two of them worked together seamlessly, Connor monitoring her vitals while Will administered a small dose of her prescribed beta-blocker to help bring her heart rate down.
Reassurance
As her heart rate finally started to stabilize, Y/N let out a shaky breath of relief. Jay sat at her feet, his hand resting gently on her ankle, while Will perched on the arm of the couch, watching her closely.
“I’m sorry for scaring you,” she whispered, her eyes darting between her brothers and Connor.
“Don’t apologize,” Jay said firmly. “You’re our sister. You don’t have to go through this alone.”
Will nodded, his expression softening. “Honey, we’d rather know when something’s wrong than find out later. You’re family. That’s what we’re here for.”
Connor squeezed her hand, his thumb brushing over her knuckles. “They’re right. You don’t have to hide this from us. We love you—episodes and all.”
Her eyes filled with tears, but this time, they were tears of gratitude. “Thank you,” she whispered, her voice breaking.
“Always, sweetheart,” Jay said, his tone gentle.
“Always,” Will echoed, leaning down to kiss her forehead.
Aftercare
Once her episode had fully passed, Jay stayed behind to keep her company while Connor and Will worked on cleaning up. Jay kept the mood light, cracking jokes to make her laugh, while Connor prepared tea and a light snack for her.
“Next time,” Connor said as he handed her the tea, “we’re not waiting so long to call them.”
Y/N smiled softly, leaning against his shoulder. “Okay. I promise.”
Her brothers stayed until she fell asleep, each of them silently vowing to always be there for her—no matter what.
Tumblr media
Hunni you are so so welcome, i totally get where you coming from with being gaslit by the doctors and just anyone it’s exhausting and mentally draining currently having to fight with my doctors about a cyst :/. But I’m so glad this little corner of the world helps and with that you love this imagine and that it brings some much needed comfort 🫶🏻

Tying away on my keyboard in front of me I heard my cell phone vibrating on my desk. Picking it up I swiped my finger across seeing Will’s name come up on the screen. “Hey Dr. Halstead. How’s your work day today?”
“It’s been pretty slow surprisingly. So I thought I’d check in on my number one patient.”
I lightly chuckled at him. “I’m your number one patient hmm. I’m not sure I should be honored or scared about that statement.”
“You’re my fiancé and my best friend. Do you need any more explanation as to why you’re my number one patient.” Will chuckled on his side of the phone call.
“Seems pretty clear to me.” I gasped feeling some pain in my lower back. Moving one of my hands to my back I knew it was the baby.
“Mallory, you okay?”
I knew he was already running through all the doctor ceremonies in his mind about why the baby was causing me some discomfort. “Calm down, Dr Redhead. I have an appointment with my OBGWN tomorrow morning.”
“At 10:00am. I took off work for it the second you told me about it a few weeks ago.” He responded proudly and it made my heart skip a beat at how much he had been involved during the pregnancy.
He had brought all the baby books and hadn’t stopped reading each one until he completely finished them. Every morning when I woke up with morning sickness he would be by my side, holding my hair back. And the night I had officially met his brother Jay who tried to give me a shot Will had to tell him that we were going to be parents. Overall Will just kept showing me how sure I was that we were always supposed to be together and have a family.
A text message came over my phone so I put the call on speaker so I could read the message. “You really are a great husband, Will. Hey, do you have any idea why your brother is telling me to tell you to answer his calls?”
“Oh he texted me a couple of times but I’ve been busy and haven’t had time to call him. It’s nothing to worry about though.” Will told me before I saw something pop into my inbox. Another Arson case needed to be looked at and this had become my desk job for Firehouse 81 until I was cleared for active duty once the baby is born in a couple of months.
“Hey Will I have to go. Another case came in but I’ll see you later.”
He ended the call knowing he needed to get back to work too. “Okay, Mal. I love you and I’ll pick you up after my shift tonight.”
“I love you too.” Hitting the red end call button I focused my attention back on my work. Dropping my freehand down to my slightly larger stomach I smiled knowing we needed to start thinking of baby names sooner rather than later.
Will held open the door to Mollys letting me go in first where I looked around for his brother but realized I didn’t actually know what he looked like. Will noticed pointing out someone sitting at one of the high top tables that we walked into over to. “So you're the famous Mallory that my brother hasn’t stopped talking about since the night you two met.” The guy had short brown hair and deep green eyes, so definitely not Will’s twin.
“Yeah, that’s me. I’m Mallory, it’s nice to meet you.” Extending my hand he grasped mine on his own. “So what do you do for a living?”
“I used to be in the Army as a 3rd Battalion Ranger Regiment. But nowadays I work as a Detective for the Chicago Police Department in their Intelligence Section.” Jay grabbed the three shots off a tray that Gabby had brought over to our table from behind the bar top. “I thought we could toast tonight to us finally meeting each other.”
I picked up the shot that Jay had slid in my direction, eyeing it with a half smile. “I wish I could but something has come up where a lot of things will have to change for the next few months. Here you can have two drinks tonight.” Sliding the shot glass over to my fiancé I shift my gaze over to his brother.
“Man that didn’t take long for me to become an Uncle.” Jay smirked in his brother's direction.
“Don’t make jokes about me in bed, Jason.”
Will points his index finger at his brother. “Try and stop me, William.”
Jay glared at him, putting his focus back on me, taking his shot and sitting the glass back down on the table. “So before my brother got you pregnant what did you do or do you do for a living?”
“I served like you did in the Army. But I was a K-9 handler that was responsible for finding explosives and other things in Afghanistan.” Shrugging my shoulders I chuckled, picturing Maxon but dogs weren’t allowed inside the bar. “When I moved back here I actually sort of saved my friend when her building got fire. After that incident I went through the process and now I am officially a Firefighter with CFD.”
The man who would eventually become my brother in law busted out in a fit of laughter taking a long drink from his beer bottle. “Guess I don’t get to be the only badass in the family anymore, little brother. You two are going to be interesting parents but I got my money on your kid is going to be in the Army like their mom and Uncle Jay.”
“You are unbelievable.” Will shook his head while I laid my head against his shoulder, knowing I was going getting ready to marry into a good family.
Walking out the front door of the work building I saw Will leaning up against the passenger door of his car waiting for me. Running as beast as I could with my belly bouncing around I flung my arms around his neck. Burying my nose into the fabric of his shirt I didn’t mind if he smelled like the hospital. “I missed you, today.”
“I can see that. I missed you today too, Mal.” Will chuckled down at me, caging me in his comforting arms.
Nuzzling my nose against his chest I simply enjoyed the moment between us until I realized that he wasn’t supposed to be done with work this early. “Will, not that I don’t love you being here. I still have to ask, aren't you still supposed to be finishing your night shift at Med?” Drawing my head away I focused my gaze onto his with knitted brows.
“It was surprisingly a slow night. I asked someone to cover my shift and if I’m being completely honest I couldn’t be away from you for another whole weekend.” He blushed, staring at his shoes out of embarrassment. For the last two weeks he had been pulling 24 hour shifts at the hospital so he could take time off when I was on maternity leave.
Staring at him for a moment I clicked my tongue , reaching to grab my bag from the ground but he was faster than me. “If I didn’t know any better I’d say you have fallen head over heels for me - ah William!”
“You’re six months pregnant, Mallory. You’re carrying a life inside of you. For now I will be your redhead pack mule for the next few months.” He snatched up the bag, slinging it over his shoulder and intertwining my hand with his. “And plus it only took me six years to get a ring on your finger.”
Sending him a wink I nudged him with my elbow. “I wasn’t aware that I left you pinning over me for that long, Halstead.”
“Don’t apologize for not knowing how I felt back then, Ms. Easton. Hey, on my way over here I saw a Taco truck nearby. We could see if they have those Chorizo tacos you’ve been craving like the ones Connor bought you when you visited the hospital for your first OBGYN appointment.” He suggested opening the passenger door for me and put my work bag in the backseat of his vehicle.
Squeezing my hand in his once we were sitting inside his car I smirked in his direction, putting my other hand on my stomach. “Smart and handsome. You’re gonna make one hell of a husband and father.”

Hey guys !!
With the changes I've made to the characters I write for and such, I'm going to reset my taglists.
Here is the link to resubmit your user. HERE pretty please do I want to make sure you guys can still see my stuff. <3
A/n: I don't write for Chicago PD anymore (Jay, Hailey, Kev) And I've also decided to close my Connor requests probably for good. I'm not sure if I'll open them back up again. I did have two requests for him that I have been trying to write but I unfortunately probably won't because of my brain.
I'm sorry if any of this is upsetting? I don't know lol but my form is very messy so I want to clean it up.
Have a good day babes.

“Room for one more?” A voice so familiar rang through my ears. A voice I’ve wished so many times to hear other than through the phone. I looked up and my eyes got misty. All the air seemed to have sucked out from my lungs as I took in the sight in front of me.
Standing gloriously a few feet away was Connor. Connor Rhodes.
Connor, who left because traumatising things happened one after another and he needed a break from the city. Connor, who left, leaving a distraught girlfriend back in Chicago, threading life with little to no support, what with her boyfriend being in another city, her older brother leaving and her other older brother being so close to losing it with whatever’s been happening in his life, the not-so recent building apartment fire flashed by in her mind. God, I nearly lost Will, lost my brother.
“Mind if I sit with you?” Connor’s voice once again brought me back from my thoughts.
“Connor,” I managed to utter because if I were to say anything else, the flood works would come. Connor took it as an invitation to sit next to me, on the bench outside the hospital overlooking a park nearby.
“You’re back,” I said as I looked at him, cataloging every feature of his face. I’ve missed this so much. It’s been almost a year since he left and that one year was downright a crazy year.
Connor chuckled and let out a soft but bright smile that never failed to spread warmth all over me, “I’m back, babe. For good.” Connor reached his arm and pulled towards him. The moment I was attached to him in a sort of a side hug, I sagged and melted into him.
I took in the smell of his cologne, one that I’ve been trying to keep up with over the year, because this man didn’t think through his decision of leaving at least his cologne so I could remember his smell.
I wrapped my arms around him and it took no more than a few seconds for me to start crying. I can’t believe that he is really here, beside me, that it is his arms that’s finally wrapped around me.
Connor didn’t say anything, just held me tighter and occasionally rubbed his hand up and down my arm to comfort me.
“I’m sorry babe, that you had to go through everything alone. I’m here now, we’ll get through whatever together, all right,” Connor was no stranger to my life even after he left Chicago. Every single night I’d text or call him to give life updates but it was one thing to be a listening ear miles away and another to be physically there to support you.
“I’m never leaving you again and if I have to get away from here, I’ll bring you with me,” he said, tone suggesting that he’s making a promise.
I nodded, not trusting myself to say anything yet although the tears have stopped. I rested my head on his shoulder and took a deep breath in.
“Glad you came back, babe. I know it’s hard for you too, this place doesn’t really give you a lot of good memories, and I’m sorry for not being there for you too,” I started after a stretch of silence.
“It’s okay, maybe the happy memories are not much but it’s enough and I think I’m open to the idea of making more since my favourite person is still here. What’d you think?” I turned my head to see him looking at me. I nodded.
“I love you, Connor Rhodes, thanks for coming back,” I hugged him tighter and felt his arms hugging me back. “I love you too,” Connor kissed the top of my head.
“Do you need to go back in anytime soon?” I heard him ask. I shook my head, my shift was already over but I wasn’t ready to go back to an empty apartment, not after the day I had. But now that my home is here, “Let’s go back, my shift’s over.”
~
thanks for readingg!! ❤️
