An Uncle's Love

     It didn’t often happen that werewolves could get sick, but young pups were still susceptible to certain things like the flu, so when Peter heard a knock at his door, it wasn’t surprising to find young Derek in the doorway, his cheeks flushed and lips quivering. “Uncle Peter? I don’t feel so good.”

     Peter sighed softly but set the paperwork he was doing aside. “Alright then, come on.” He murmured, walking over and scooping his nephew into his arms. “Let’s go tell Alpha.”

     The feverish pup nodded, curling into his neck and whimpering softly as he sniffled. Wolves primarily relied on scent for comfort during such times, but with his nose stuffed up, Derek couldn’t smell much.

     “It’s okay,” Peter said softly, rubbing his back as he headed downstairs. He knocked on the door to Talia’s study, waiting to be called in before opening the door. “Derek isn’t feeling well. I believe he caught the flu.”

     Talia’s nose wrinkled in poorly hidden disgust, even as she clicked her tongue sympathetically at her pup. “Poor pup.” She cooed, though she made no move to get up. “Peter, could I talk to you for a moment? Alone?”

     Peter’s lip curled in obvious distaste for the question, but at this point, he wasn’t surprised by how his sister acted towards her children. “As you want.” He said, leaving the study and setting Derek on the couch in the living room. “I’ll be right back, pup.” He assured him, getting only a miserable nod from his nephew. His lips thinned, and he stalked back into the study, a slight growl lacing his words as he spoke before his alpha had a chance to. “Your pup is sick. Shouldn’t you be comforting him?”

     “Peter, I’m much too busy for this,” Talia said, and Peter rolled his eyes at the lack of compassion. “Derek will be fine, you know this. Coddling a pup for something so insignificant is unnecessary. These things come and go, but Derek is strong. He’ll be fine.”

     “Your pup is sick for the first time in his life, and he’s scared. You don’t think that warrants your attention as his mother? As his alpha?” Peter asked incredulously.

     “Enough, Peter!” Talia snapped, hating to have her capabilities as an alpha questioned. “If you think it necessary to hold his hand, you can do so, but I am simply too busy to handle this right now. I have an entire pack to care for, and you seem to forget that.”

     Peter curled his hands into fists, refraining from letting his claws out like he wanted. “I will never forget the pack that I help protect.” He snarled. “But neither will I forget their individual needs. Right now, Derek needs his mother.”

     “I said enough!” Talia said, slamming her hands down on the desk as she stood. “If you’re such a bleeding heart, then you can cater to Derek and his childish illness.”

     Peter’s teeth ground together, and he bit the words out. “Fine. But one day, you’ll wish you had taken the time to do so yourself.” He turned and stalked out of the room, taking a moment to calm himself down before going back to Derek. His heart ached to see the young pup curled up on the couch, sniffling and shivering. “Hey, pup. Let’s get you warmed up.” He said, his voice infinitely softer than it had been talking with Talia.

     He grabbed a blanket and wrapped Derek up before picking him up again. He settled him on his hip, and his chest squeezed at the quiet whisper in his ear. “Mommy hates me, doesn’t she?”

     Peter sighed, rubbing Derek’s back as he carried him up the stairs. “No, she doesn’t hate you, pup. She just forgets sometimes how to love.”

     “How does she forget?” Derek asked, the teary sound of his voice hitting Peter hard.

     He laid Derek down in his bed, tucking him in. “Well, sometimes she forgets how to love as a mother because she has to be the alpha.”

     “Don’t alphas love?” Derek asked after thinking hard about that for a minute.

     “They’re supposed to,” Peter answered, feeling Derek’s head. He was feverish but not too hot. “She’ll remember that soon, I’m sure.” He reassured him.

     Derek nodded, starting to look sleepy as he yawned and blinked slowly. “Do left hands love?” He asked, looking up at his uncle.

     Peter smiled, running a hand through Derek’s hair gently. “We do. That’s something we never forget.” He promised.

     Derek nodded, on the cusp of sleep as he answered. “Good. Love you, Uncle Peter.”

     A warm feeling bloomed in Peter’s chest as Derek started snoring softly. “I love you too, pup.” He whispered, leaning over to kiss his forehead. He’d grab some cold compresses and a good book and settle in for the night. Maybe an uncle’s love wasn’t the best substitute for a mother’s, but he refused to let his nephew think he was unloved.

Hello, sorry to bother. I just wanted to thank you for your continuous passion for TW and especially Scott. I've recently rewatched the show for the first time in 10 years, and he's always been my favourite, but I kept my distance from the fandom because of how bad it was towards him – and ended up pulling away entirely for a while. It's sad to see it's still not much better, but your blog is a delight to me because I finally see someone who gets it. Have a good day 🐺

Your words are very kind. While I find the effort rewarding, I am most certainly tilting at windmills. The fandom will only be able to change through attrition; the appreciation of Scott McCall as a character as he deserves will only fully happen when there's no one left to notice.

I'm sorry for being a bit of a downer, but there was a very interesting post by @liplessthomas14 where they mourned the lack of "Bad Friend Scott" stories that actually address the problems in Scott and Stiles's friendship. They're absolutely correct. While I would never see the need for that tag, there could have been an entire genre of Teen Wolf fanfiction and fandom content which analyzed the flaws in a powerful friendship. But there isn't, and there won't be now. It's too late. The damage is done. We have 2218 works on AO3 labelled as such, and I would generously estimate ten times that many which simply taken the idea that Scott was a bad friend to Stiles for granted. That's one out of seven stories published and very, very few of them aren't simplistic one-dimensional hit jobs.

Instead of understanding the role of Scott and Allison's relationship in the story, 95% of the fandom believes that Scott was obsessed with her and in doing so, left Stiles behind. Of course, they have to ignore the more-than-half-dozen times that Scott risked his relationship with Allison for Derek or Stiles, including the fact that Season 2 was entirely about Scott putting saving lives of people who didn't like him above his relationship with Allison. They have to ignore that there was never a scene where Scott left Stiles behind for Allison or popularity, for that matter. They have to ignore that Allison was Scott's anchor and that this was important, including ignoring this blatantly lampshading scene from Party Guessed (2x09):

Isaac: Then how do you control it? Derek: Find an anchor. Something meaningful to you. Bind yourself to it. Keep the human side in control.

The show came out and said "In order for Scott to exert control over his lycanthropy so he can save others rather than be a danger to them, he needed to bind himself to Allison, a girl with which he fell in love." and the fandom has spent the last 13 years pretending that the show didn't have repeated scenes demonstrating this very need. We can all accuse Jeff Davis of being unsubtle, but he seemed to have known that he simply could not be unsubtle enough.

Instead of understanding the purpose of Stiles (and Derek) as a foil(s) for Scott, I would estimate that 95% of the fandom believes that the show, as one person put it, undermined Stiles or Derek's story for Scott's benefit, an idea put forward again and again with no basis in storytelling. Stiles had two whole seasons dedicated to his story and the only time he wasn't an important character in the other seasons was when the actor didn't want to be there. Scott, on the other hand, spent the first 36 episodes of the show cleaning up the Hale family mess on their behalf and then accepted being given their role of protecting the town. Of course, the fandom has taught itself that, contrary to the actual writing, it was Derek and Stiles's right to be the focus of the show.

Think of it this way, after all the emotionally resonant "Stilinski family feels" which the fandom loves so much (and they were meant to) and then couple that with the fact that Stiles had more scenes, more screen time, and received more on-screen comfort from Scott's parents than Scott did. I'll never get over the fact that we had an entire season of everyone talking about how much they love Stiles and how important Stiles was to them, and it wasn't until the final season (when Stiles was gone) that someone told Scott she was worried about him. As I like to point out, imagine Stiles being kidnapped and taken to a foreign country or badly injured and the Sheriff not being involved. His parents being absent during crises happened to Scott three times, and the majority of the fandom never noticed.

Instead of taking the time to explore the motivations of every character and not just their favorites, 95% of the fandom indulge in racist tropes that allow them to ignore huge plot points and then complain about plot holes. Deaton is sinister, cryptic and/or unhelpful, when scene after scene depicts Deaton offering good advice and help for which he receives no reward. Scott is stubborn, angry, and simplistically moral (black-and-white thinking) towards white male characters who should be in charge, when there are repeated scenes showing him willing to work with Derek and Chris Argent, Theo and even Peter for pity's sake.

That's why the fight in Lies of Omission (5x09) is one of the most fundamentally misconstrued scenes in television history. Instead of seeing that Theo cleverly used the flaws in Scott's and Stiles's relationship to drive them apart so he can isolate and neutralize Scott, the fandom reduces it to Scott casually and immediately tossing Stiles out of the pack for killing someone in self-defense on the word of an utter stranger. Gone is the knowledge that Stiles has a history of lies and deception so deep it's become a running gag and a history of extreme violence in defense of his father; gone is the awareness that Theo had carefully cultivated Scott's overwhelming sense of responsibility as well as saved every single member of the pack, thus earning Scott's trust (the way Derek saving Scott's life in Season 2 was supposed to earn Scott's immediate obedience). Stiles, as a white male character, is entitled to hurt and deceive other people and receive understanding; Scott, as a non-white character, is expected to ask the right questions and get to the bottom of things even as Stiles yells in his face.

In conclusion, the fandom is poisonous because of the established core belief that Scott is unworthy to be lead protagonist and that Stiles (or Derek or Theo or even Peter) would have been a better one. This belief is so widespread and so strong and so in conflict with the story itself that it's hard to participate in the fandom unless you adopt it, and it's why there is always a struggle to think about the characters in nuanced terms. I'll keep trying, though.

I'm new-ish to writing (i used to write fanfiction when i was like 13. i'm 19 now and write very rarely) but I really wanna do it again.

So this is a list of characters/fandoms I write for as well as some rules for asks. Some things may be missing from this list so if you dont see something on this list, feel free to ask. :))

Holy shit! It took me a while to answer these. I tried to keep the answers as brief as possible. Post is going to be long af.

Which WIP of yours has the longest chapters and which one has the shortest?

Havenpoint has the shortest chapters (1500-2000 words) and Defenders has the biggest (2500-3000 words)

2. What is your most self indulgent piece and why?

Defenders is definitely my most self indulgent work. It is mainly because I am too emotionally attached to the characters in it and I am afraid that I might just ruin the storyline because of that.

3. Talk about the first character you made

Evelyn Rose was the first character I had ever made. She was an OC for my first and last fanfiction. She also happened to be an author's darling and now that I think about it, she would have been a very annoying and super self indulgent character.

5. When did you start writing ? How ?

I started writing at the age of twelve. An unfinished fanfiction was the first thing I wrote. I really got into writing during covid, when I started writing the original Havenpoint. I started writing Rebel and then I was falling down a rabbit hole. It was just so exciting because I had so many ideas in my head and I could take out and put somewhere.

Kinda hard seeing that even I don't know where I am going with my WIPs. But I think I can give for Defenders.

I had a WIP that I don't remember the name of but I had scrapped it because it sounded too much like Cassandra Clare's shadowhunters.

I sit on my study desk but not on the side I am supposed to be sitting on. My study desk is placed perpendicular to my bed. So I sit on the bed and place my laptop on the side of the desk where I write. Its right beside the window.

Any character from the batch 1 in Rebel. They have seen war from the frontlines at a very young age and have been used as killing drones.

Rebel is red and black. Defenders is gold and black. Havenpoint would be muted and darkened spring colours.

Most of the time, I write as as I go.

I usually post the second draft, which is not exactly polished and which I keep editing.

20. Share a snippet of an old wip that you never posted.

The Playground:

Do you remember when we were kids? Kids below the age of ten, running out to play from the early afternoon to the time the sun dipped under the horizon. Do you remember? We would come home and find scrapes on our arms and legs and small bruises littered everywhere. We never knew where they came from. When we became older we thought that we had gotten hurt while playing but never noticed because we were having too much fun. After all, children below the age of ten can get distracted easily.

21. Tell me about an upcoming WIP

I am trying to make a WIP called the Masque. It's mostly about this masque shop. The artists working in the shop make magical masques, some of them based on popular characters in classic books. The masques gives certain abilities to the person who wears them but at the same time they place a curse on them. The longer you wear it the stronger the curse begins. Now the masques are addictive to wear, very addictive because it makes the person into what they think is the perfect version of them.

The relationship between Skyler and Ah-dainn from Defenders.

23. How do you stay on track story-wise?

I don't.

24. Do any of your stories have alternative versions?

Defenders does, in my head.

Going with the characters in Defenders first.

Ah-dainn would die first trying to protect somebody.

Jay would die second because he didn't want to listen to Skyler and did something stupid.

Ren would go next because she found a creepy doll and tried to kill it.

Ivy would die trying to escape from a window.

Skyler is the ghost.

I feel I should have read more fics this month but I've had 0 motivation to read fics in order. I've read loads from tumblr and twitter recs just not the ones in order. That and I was down in the very bottom of the UK working at cons.

For real though. It feels like they spent the entire first 2 seasons hinting Stiles was Bi, him flirting with Danny being a big factor and him making jokes about making out with Scott etc. Then for some reason they just completly dropped the Bi angle and he was super straight for some reason. It felt like it was no longer the character feeling comfy and joking about his sexuality to more like the show was making fun of it. For a show that claims to take place in a world without any homophobia there was a serious lack of any other relationships that wasn't straight.

The only main gay character got completely written off because they didn't know what to do with him (like how do you not know what to do with Danny) his partner disappeared and then showed up again 3 seasons later.

But I dunno it felt like you were either straight or not important to the story.

QUESTION?

Does anyones brain do the same thing???

In my head my otps and ships don't stay the same age they age like us. the ones I've had since I was a smol have grown up and are now fully fledged adults.

Examples

KevEdd- Kevin and DD from Ed, edd n eddy, when the show came out in 1999 they were 12ish, in my head they are now 30ish?

Sterek- in season 1 Stiles was 17 and Derek was 19, my brain now thinks of them as 28 and 30?

Is this just my weird brain?

The pack we wanted in teen wolf, an easy guide.

ALPHA - Derek Hale(boy needs good things, also born werewolf and knows things)

2nd in command- Scott mccall (cause you can be the main character without being an entitled dick, also single boy needs to be single)

Emissaries- Stiles(also alpha mate and spark) & Lydia(banshee) the two of them as communication and planners would be terrifying. Lydia can be more brutal in her plans and often sometimes forgets thins, but pack mom Stiles and her husband Parrish always bring her back

BETAS- Erica, Boyd(3rd in charge I feel this goes without saying), Isaac, Jackson,Ethan, Cora, Kira(kitsune), Malia (coyote), Liam, Theo (redeemed), Mason, Corey, Parrish (hellhound), Hayden.

HUMAN ELEMENT- Allison (ex hunter) she is protective of her friends and pack. Makes sure any hunters they encounter follow the code.

Danny(hacker) finds information, gets paperwork for them, keeps them safe

Melissa(healer) looks after everyone

GUIDES - Peter hale (has no desire to be alpha again after the first time, wants the hale pack to grow and is happy to have a large family again.)

John Stilinski - will die fighting for the pack

Chris Argent - knows how to protect the pack and how to deal with enemies

Chapter 11

Derek finds out that Stiles likes to wear lace

Literally saw a TikTok where someone stitched a video of Tyler Posey talking about how Stiles or Derek are great but it's his (Tyler/Scott's) show and the person stitching it scoffed and said basically "no the f it isn't"

..... he literally was pointing out straight facts. It *is* his show, he is the titular Teen Wolf, everything in the show connects back to him. It's 2023 and these loony stans are just as ignorant and vile as ever. Though I have to laugh that they think simply because they have written tons of fanfiction centering Stiles, that means it influences the show.

This is nothing new. As you might know because I've never hid it, I do a search every day for new Teen Wolf fictions with Scott in it, excluding Bad Friend Scott and Bad Alpha Scott and Scott-Bashing (as useless as that is because 50% of the stories that fall into the above categories are untagged), but in the vicious reaction to the movie, I've taken to changing the "<1 day" tag to "3650 days ago" in order to find things a little less malevolent. Essentially, I'm reading stories from 2013.

And the results are eerily similar.

In the older stories, Scott is most often positioned as an antagonist to the real protagonists of the series: Derek and/or Stiles. He's either in the doghouse for his defeat of Derek and Gerard in Master Plan (2x12), or he's being urged with the need to join Derek's pack for his own good, or he's being confronted with the illegitimacy of his rejection of Derek, which is based not on Derek being a brutal manipulative power-mad alpha but is based on a groundless dislike or even hatred. Sometimes, this conflict has already been resolved, in which case he's shoved into "loyal beta" role who serves as Stiles's emotional support with a one-dimensional relationship with Isaac or Allison (or both) as a treat.

The Alpha pack, when addressed, is depicted as interested in Derek or -- for some reason -- Stiles. Their actions do frequently provide Scott with the opportunity to prove his loyalty to Stiles and/or Derek. In other words, there is no relation to what happened on the screen or what will happen on the screen.

Flash-forward to ten years later and it's the same thing.

In story after story written in reaction to the movie, Scott is most often positioned as antagonist. He's either in the doghouse for his defeat of the nogitsune and Harris (stupefying, I know), or he's being slandered as not being a good adopted father for Eli, or he's being confronted with the illegitimacy of his relationship with Stiles, which is not informed by the fact that they've lived separate lives for 13 years but focused on the idea that Scott should have based his entire existence around Stiles's. For instance, he's excoriated for not still driving a 46-year-old Jeep or being tricked by the same demon fox that rode Stiles around like a bumper car or not choosing to die instead of Derek.

When they say that they reject canon, they aren't kidding. Fandom's deranged revenge fantasy -- and make no make mistake the goal is revenge because their every reaction to the movie is nothing but hatred -- is entirely based not on what happened on the screen but on what happened more than a decade ago -- Scott McCall was revealed to be the Teen Wolf.

Look, contrary to that enormous racist's attempt to position any other character as the focus of Teen Wolf and hide it behind a thought experiment when it was an excuse to cut Tyler Posey out of cast pictures, there is no Teen Wolf story without Scott. No plot line, no character, no piece of lore was written or executed that didn't have direct bearing on Scott. Not one.

It's sad Tyler Posey has to make a joke about it being his show when every part of the movie was about Scott. I mean, the fact that the only reason that Derek Hale was given a son in the first place was so, in the end, adopting Eli could transition Scott from Teen Wolf to father of a Teen Wolf in two-and-a-half hours is incontrovertible. And the rage of a racist fandom that still, after 12 years, can't wrap their head around a story that focuses on a Latino will never be satisfied. But they'll certainly try.

He wanted to lean in as well but something in him still resisted, he held back but tilted his head forward to invite the druid closer. Noah’s forehead rested against his, their noses nuzzling. He felt Noah’s breath on his cheek. This was it. After seventeen years-

“Scott! Scott baby, listen to me!” Mel’s voice snapped everything back to reality. A deafening roar trembled through the house. “It’s okay Sweetheart.”

They pulled apart, Peter was up and near the stairs within three seconds, ready to protect the rest of the pack from the young wolf if necessary. The snapping and growling intensified, the door of Ben’s bedroom rattling in its hinges. But thankfully it held steady.
