I woke up this morning still thinking about Fadel waking up in Style's bed.

I wonder what was running through Fadel's head as he turned to look at Style, eyes still squinting against the too-bright morning light, the unfamiliar comfort of the shape of Style's name on his lips for the very first time. I wonder if he was too sleepy to process how strange it was that he didn't really mind being pinned down by the weight of Style's thigh thrown over his hips; that the sensation was grounding and reassuring rather than being confining or suffocating. I wonder if the thought crossed his mind that he wouldn't mind waking up like this again, wouldn't mind letting someone into his space, wouldn't mind giving someone the bared vulnerability of lying naked and unprotected with all the implications of unwavering trust that has -- not if it was with him.

I wonder if Fadel registered the way his heartbeat is steady and calm despite the strange surroundings and unfamiliar bed, because something in him has already labelled the person lying next to him as safe.

I wonder if Fadel even understood that this, right here, in all its quiet and unacknowledged stillness, was the moment he fell in love?

“My lord… the excavation team cannot proceed with digging deeper underneath the temple.”

Maria stood quietly as Robert glared at the poor messenger who had the misfortune of informing Robert of the unfortunate news.

“What’s the problem now? We already paid off everyone to let us dig in peace and to stay quiet. This should not have gotten to Saladin’s ears.” Robert growled.

“It’s not… it’s not the Saracens, sire.” The poor messenger gripped his hat tight enough to crumple it as he tried to explain, “They… they say that the only route we can take is blocked.”

“Blocked?”

“Yes, sire.”

“And they can’t just dig around the blockage?”

“No, sire.” The poor messenger shook his head and Maria wondered if the messenger was already saying a silent prayer in fear, “They say that this is the only route. Any other places would weaken the foundation and we risk the temple collapsing above us.”

Robert was not a brute.

He was quite a reasonable man.

A wise man.

But this entire expedition had put a strain on him. They do not have complete control over Jerusalem so simply being here, digging underneath Solomon’s Temple was a danger all by itself.

But he had just received word that left him in a very bad mood and everyone was walking lightly, hoping they wouldn’t be the one to step on broken glass.

“And we can’t just… unblock it?”

The messenger hesitated.

“What is blocking it?” Robert asked with a frown.

“I… I believe it is better if you come see for yourself, sire.”

With that ominous words, the messenger led them deeper into the tunnel they had been digging. Maria did not know just how deep Robert wishes to dig nor did she know what they were digging this much more.

All Robert said was that a treasure that can change the entire world nestled deep underground.

Maria believed that Robert was talking about a holy artifact, perhaps the grail or the ark.

Something that will show to everyone that this Holy War is necessary.

That they are doing what is right and what God has intended.

As they reached the end of tunnel, Maria froze.

As the entire tunnel echoed the roar of the beast impending their holy mission.

I don't know how I'd ever convey this in art but. Thinking very deeply about how in boy king au, a very crucial part of characterization is that Seb is a wolf in sheep(or lamb more specifically)'s clothing and Fernando is a sheep in wolf's clothing.

Seb is very unassuming, very delicate, seemingly very vulnerable and malleable. But, deep down, he can be very ruthless. It's in the the way he hesitantly declares war, with a spark in his eye and a suppressed smirk. In the way he challenges someone to a card game or a horse race, proclaiming that he's not great, but winning every round and prancing around the room and mentioning it ad infinitum. The way he's able to instantly turn the tide in a debate in one fell swoop. By showing all his cards constantly and letting himself be vulnerable, he's making himself invulnerable. No one would ever consider him to be able to make big moves, so he wins every single time, because no one even thinks to expect it from him.

Fernando on the other hand, is constantly committed to having a looming presence and harsh reputation, but deep down, he's soft. He knows what happens to people when they're vulnerable, and he's not going to let himself be taken advantage of. The way he keeps a brave face when being informed of the marriage proposal, but goes back to his room and cries. The way he proclaims that he was always going to be the rightful ruler of Spain, but confides to Flavio that he never thought there was any real chance of it ever happening. The way he takes himself so seriously in public, but inside feels so giddy whenever he can make someone laugh. Everything to him always feels unstable and ready to crumble at any moment, and he's not willing to contribute to that by letting himself relax.

I think thats why it's very difficult for them to get along at first, because they have completely different approaches to how they carry themselves and make their way through life. Seb is confused at Fernando because he feels that he's very bland and overly serious at first, but truthfully he's not really seeing the actual Fernando. And Fernando finds Seb to be naive and easily taken advantage of, but that's because he's never seen Seb at his most cruel. Seb really loves when he eventually gets to see Fernando being vulnerable, and Fernando really admires and respects Seb when he sees him being serious. I think it just takes a while for them to show the other their full and complete selves, even the parts they can sometimes be ashamed of. There's this very compelling dichotomy in Seb laying out all his cards, but still being very difficult to read, and Fernando keeping his cards to his chest, but his intentions often being easily seen through.

3. the SE5 primal dialga fight! The way they’re fighting him basically to the death, just trying to buy time, the sun rising around them, the wind blowing…they’re finally getting the first taste of the future they could have had, but they can’t stop and enjoy it—they have to fight time itself to save it. It felt like an even higher stakes moment than in the main part of the game to me—they’re giving it their all despite actively disappearing themselves. And ironically, the worse they feel and the more they disappear, the more they know their effort it paying off.  

8. Grovyle :3 I’ve made a few rambling, fairly coherent posts about my feelings on him, but his pure heart and at times incomprehensible behavior have enchanted me. He contains multitudes. He’s one of those characters that really makes you consider your life/reevaluate your perspectives (*cough cough Dusknoir cough*)

12. I think adding some conflict between hero and partner could have improved the plot. Don’t get me wrong, I do love that they’re BFF soulmates and that they would die for each other, but that might have been more compelling if they had to go through some things to reach that state first. My idea was that the conflict could be about Dusknoir—namely that Hero doesn’t trust them, but Partner refuses to believe their dimensional scream or even accept the situation during the betrayal. If, say, they had some tension building about it in the past, they get betrayed, escape the execution, then have a big fight bc Partner STILL wants to seek out/trust Dusknoir, while Hero can’t believe that they’re still in denial/not believing them, maybe they could split up. Hero could find grovyle, tell them what happened, and convince him they have to go find partner. Then the cutscene could switch to partner finding dusknoir, and either need to be saved or accidentally lead him to hero/grovyle. Ultimately, it would end with hero/grovyle/celebi saving partner, and partner finally realizing/accepting that, even though they were fighting, hero really DOES care about them and will always have their back. I think something like that would have a) really shown how much their friendship strengthened, despite what they’ve been through, and b) add some more impact to the dusknoir betrayal. Plot wise, it felt like he betrays you, then kind of gets swept under the rug for the sake of moving ahead.
