Miraculous Rewrite - The Wolf

The final stretch

We begin in darkness. But before it lasts too long Sun Min’s voice pierces through the gloom. The image sparking to life being the known Miraculous of the Old Order, including his lion buckle and Yun Eun-Ji’s octopus bracelet. “The Miraculous, as you all should know by now, reflect concepts. Called Virtues by the others, but some of them are anything but. As an aspect of using them the magic begins to rub off on its wielder. Kwami don’t tell their users as much if they can help it. The knowledge of how easily magic can begin to overwhelm the senses can do severe damage to a person’s psyche.” In flashes of fire His own and Yun Eun-Ji’s Miraculous fall away. “We know what his connection to Misso has done to Master- To Tsering Wan’s mind, but consider if you will, what the Kwami of Loneliness has done to Wu Lian. Or Leadership has done to Zhao Kai.” We trail away from the Miraculous example and into Sun Min, detransformed and sitting on one of the couches in the base.

“When I was a kid and first brought into the Order, I was taught that exposure to Miraculous for extended periods brought wisdom. As being around immortal beings such as the Kwami could uncover that which was hidden.” He huffs and leans back, Valoor’s fuzzy head poking up and nuzzling his cheek. “Now I understand why I never felt particularly wiser.” He hums. “I guess it makes sense, being around Valoor would have me question things a little more than I used to.” he scratches her under her chin. “And why Yun Eun-Ji turned on all of this before me.” He sighs and leans back a bit. “So, now that the lot of you did your recon, met my friend, what have we learned?”

He looks up and sure enough the core seven of the New Order are standing together, glancing between each other until Marinette steps forward. “You said you can’t contact Yun Eun-Ji while she’s in Shanghai anymore?”

“They’ve called me a traitor, no doubt they’re listening in on her calls to make sure she doesn’t help me.”

“What do you know about ‘Combination Spells’” Sun Min’s eyes widened. But before we see his response we cut away.

What we cut to is the Zodiac kids, all transformed. Nimh has her jumprope held tight and bound up is none other than the former Hawkmoth himself.

Gabriel Agreste sits detransformed and tied up, looking rather bored with all of this, Bloodhound holding Duusuu in his hand, and the rest are on edge, ready to spring should something arise.

“Are you quite done attesting I'm not a threat? I’ve been staying with my brother for some time now, I allowed you all to keep Duusuu, so what was even the point in this ‘False kidnapping’?”

“Watch it, Bub.” Semmix points the tip of her umbrella so it merely pokes him on the nose. “You’ve been terrorizing Paris for WAY longer than the Old Order was here, of course we’re still a little hostile. A lot of us were Akumas back when YOU were the main threat Paris was looking out for.”

“So you’ll forgive our general hostility.” Pegasus adds on, though he notably looks more distracted, tapping at the screen his boomerang projects. “However I can attest to the information regarding Heist Plans 2.0 being invaluable. Notably with Our friend’s identities being fully compromised, Us Zodiac are the safest among the New Order.”

“Well, yeah but that ain’t exactly a reason to celebrate.” Roi Singe counters. “Kinda messed up that WE’RE the only ones left who are safe.”

“Are we entirely sure-” Viperion finally speaks up “-That we’re still trying to attest that M. Agreste is still a danger and not simply worried over the increased danger and lack of control we have over the situation and are projecting it onto the closest thing to a bad guy that we can assert some sort of control over to make ourselves feel better?”

The rest of the kids all look At Viperion for a long moment.

“That’s bullshit.” Semmix responds.

“Damn Vipe, okay-” Nimh responds, with a heavy level of exasperation. “So what, we should just be treating him like an ally now? HAWKMOTH?”

“Well he’s not exactly Hawkmoth anymore.” Vipereon responds, and as he approaches Gabriel, nobody stops him. “He’s Adrien’s Dad. and while he wasn’t exactly the BEST at doing that.” Viperon raises a brow and Gabriel scowls at his unimpressed look. “-He’s trying to do right by him now. And that’s what matters.” He unties Gabriel. “So nicely this time, M. Agreste, is there anything they told you that Sun Min might not know of?”

“Not much.” He begins to rub at his arms as the pressure is undone. “I wasn’t exactly popular among them. It’s possible what I know is simply what might not have been assumed.”

“And that is..?” Viperions leads, and Gabriel huffs.

But when he speaks we see the mansion again, specifically Nathalie sitting on a couch, speaking quietly with Hoàng Tuyến. “Well technically the mansion is under my name so If it didn’t threaten exposure I could have them forced to evacuate from the premises, but Nathalie unfortunately knows enough about the specifics that she could contest the point just long enough to keep everyone tied up in litigation, which would make it even easier for what little secrets we have left to be exposed.” Hoàng Tuyến puts a hand on Nathalie’s shoulder and gives it a squeeze.

“Another thing is… well, I’m sure Sun Min HAS already informed you all as much, but there are reinforcements on their way. I cannot be sure as to when they will arrive, but they’re on their way. The ‘Elders’ as they so call themselves are becoming convinced of your threat, and that will likely mean something very dangerous is in the future.” for this part we see Wu Lian looking over a list of something or another, a phone wedged between her ear and shoulder, She glances up as Tsering Wan approaches and waves him off, gesturing to the phone with importance.

“And there’s also… well…” Gabriel looks uncomfortable. “I’d uhm… I’ve told Adrien this already, Felix knows as well.” Bloodhound looks away. “My wife Emilie she-...” he huffs. “She’s there. I was able to save her from the brink of death due to her overtaxing Duusuu while she was still damaged, but she won’t get better on her own. She was too far gone.” he sighs. “If you’ve ever wondered what my initial plan was, should I have won? That was the long and short of it.”

“So you became a terrorist?” Roi Singe raises a brow.

“Honestly at this point I'd much rather prefer the term ‘Supervillain’.” Gabriel huffs, but raises his hands in surrender when Semmix pulls the tip of her umbrella to him again.

“Watch yourself, Agreste.”

“I have two superheroes in my current shelter and no access to any proper ways to fight back Should something happen. I can assure you I am.”

Semmix growls but indeed pulls her umbrella away. “Fine. Whatever.”

Gabriel sighs when she backs up. “Is that all? I’d very much rather head home from… wherever we are right now.”

The kids all look between each other.

But we cut away from that scene and to one of the ones we saw earlier, specifically Wu Lian. She grumbles to herself and aggressively hangs up the phone.

“Is there a problem A-Lian?” She huffs and massages her head.

“You have no idea Tsering.” Tsering Wan approached Wu Lian and placed a hand on her shoulder, gently rubbing with his thumb. She looks up at him and smiles slightly. “The others are on their way.”

“Is that not a good thing?”

“You would assume.” She huffs and looks away. “Tsering we have so few of us who are trained to wield now. And after Sun Min... I fear our family will not survive in Paris as we deliberate.”

Tsering Wan thinks for a time before nodding. “A-Lian, we have known each other for nearly our entire lives. I can assure you this much.” Tsering Wan gently takes her hands in his own and smiles, though he’s notably just as cold as he usually is as he does so. “Between the two of us, we can protect what’s ours with the fierceness of a thousand demons. We may walk into the underworlds of a thousand myths and come out unscathed.” Wu Lian huffs and grins wryly, but pulls away.

“Well if you’re so sure, you wouldn't mind terribly escorting our family when they arrive while I keep the heroes busy, would you?”

“Perhaps not. However when it comes to engaging with the children, I would remind you that we have changed our plans a small amount.”

“Yes I remember, Tsering I’m not senile.” She smirks at him, and he returns the grin. “Will you be fine with what will be necessary to make our plans come to fruition?”

“Always, Mighty Healer.”

“Then get ready, Great Warrior. As now we truly begin.”

But then we’re back with the heroes.

The Core Seven and the Zodiac are all gathered up when Marinette gets a ping on her phone. She checks it and confirms “It’s a text from my cousin, she says Yun Eun-Ji said to tell us that the last of the Order Council are touching down soon. And if what she and Sun Min have found out, then we really need to- You know…” he makes a gesture with her hand

“To make sure they know we’re not just some lost kids!” Adrien adds in, punching his fist in emphasis. “I doubt they’ll be changing their minds about us anytime soon, So we may as well show them we’re a force to be reckoned with!”

“However we must be cautious, we are heroes, and if they come in believing we expect a war, a war they will give us.”

“I dunno about you guys, but i’m tired of being treated like we’re a bunch of stupid kids.” Nino huffs, and Alya barks out a sharp laugh “Oh definitely.” She agrees, and looks particularly fierce when she takes out Trixx. “Those jerks are PAYING.”

“You ARE a bunch of stupid kids.” Sun Min stands, massaging a headache. “Did no one even HEAR me? I don’t even KNOW much about what’s shaping up to be their ‘final plan’ and I know you can’t just go in guns blazing. You know The council are all guardians. And among the guardians there are still warriors, and among the warriors there are other wielders. Ones you haven’t met and don’t know the abilities of.”

“So tell us, who are we facing?”

“You think I know that? I’ve literally never met anyone on the council before except for Tsering Wan, Wu Lian, and Zhao Kai!” Sun Min groans. “I’m not exactly a fountain of wisdom here guys.” in a quieter voice he adds on “I’m only nineteen.” A look is shared between the three older teens.

“They’ll likely have someone who's already familiar with Paris there to guide them.” Felix says after a pause. “Who would be the most likely to be their escort?”

Sun Min thinks for a second. “Wu Lian.” he answers. “Zhao Kai is too scatterbrained, Tsering Wan is-” he makes a vague gesture with his hand. “You know.”

“We know.” Chloe doesn’t look up from her nails. “So, who’s willing to hunt a wolf?”

“I’ve got a score to settle of my own-” Alya starts, but before she can go any further Kagami has already grabbed her arm.

“You shall continue resting, You had your persevering nature taken advantage of when we saw them last, Alya and for that you weren’t fighting in top form. You and I will be staying here to continue to learn what we can from Sun Min. Should anyone else choose to sit out I suggest you do the same.”

“I should be hanging back anyway.” Max agrees. “M. Agreste’s knowledge of his home security system has been invaluable. Alya I believe if you’ll allow me to make some notes upon your heist wall I’d otherwise untouched we may be able to properly edit our plan into a way they won’t anticipate.”

“Fair enough Max.” Alya looks considerably less salty now that sitting out also means heist plans. A few more trade offs go back and forth before it’s decided that Ladybug, Chat Noir, Bloodhound, Viperion, and Roi Singe, will be confronting the Council as hey arrive and possibly face Wu Lian, while the others (either by choice or force) will stay behind to either learn what they can from Sun Min or work on the Heist with Max and Alya.

The now selected team all transform and vanish out from the bowels of the base.

Sure enough the lot of them aren’t even halfway to the damn train station when someone (Bloodhound) spots a blur of grey from his periphery.

“We’ve got company!” Bloodhound is barely able to get out before a silver slug darts through the air and knocks him off balance.

“Well you lot certainly did bounce back from your little adventure.” Wu Lian huffs as she pops up before the lot of them. “Here I would have thought after you two vanished for a time that meant you might have up and vanished. I was thinking of even commending Sun Min on his ‘behind closed doors’ spy gambit, but it turns out that he really IS just a traitor.” She shook her head and sighed. “How unfortunate. Well… I did also happen to notice though, that I never was quite able to fight you all one on one. That little snot that lost you all the Miracle Box sort of stole my thunder, didn’t she.”

“Don’t talk about her like that.” Viperon hisses, and with a subtle shift one can see him activating Second Chance.

“Awww, did I strike a nerve?” Wu Lian coos. “You know, you remind me of someone, snake… from long ago.”

“Why are you here Wu Lian?” Ladybug asks

“I just said it, didn’t I?” Wu Lian taps her cheek. “I said I’m here to fight you all.”

“Like we’d believe that. You’re hiding something, aren’t you?” Chat Noir grows back.

“How rude. I suppose you lot will just have to see the wolf’s teeth up close then.” She snarls, and charges.

As we see the fight go on it goes as one would expect, that despite the numerous hands against her, Wu Lian is not overwhelmed and in fact holds her ground well. But we also see her making notable swipes toward Bloodhound, and Chat Noir, fingers in grabbing motions whenever she gets near their miraculouses. Not Ladybug’s, or anyone else’s.

And as we see this, we hear what Sun Min spoke of earlier.

“Combination spells were thought lost, since before the war they were taboo, they’re extremely dangerous. While two Miraculous will combine their powers, or possibly simply allow the wielder to use both at once, a Combination spell is when three or more Miraculous are all activated at once.”

“Adrien and I have wielded more than two before.” “Yeah it SUCKED, I haven’t been that nauseous before or again, but it wasn’t like we got god powers or anything.”

“But were you USING more than two? As I thought. Look, the combination spells are difficult, but tricky. They need highly specific Miraculous in the mix, and basically-”

Wu Lian makes a swipe for Bloodhound again and very narrowly misses tugging the collar clean off of his throat. “If they’re gonna use the one I think they’re gonna use, it's more important now than ever to keep hold of your Miraculous. It was practically a horror story I heard when I was younger. A caution to the dangers our powers can lead to.”

Wu Lian slams Felix into a building but before she can make another swipe at his collar a little wind up toy hits her in the back of the head, and her slingshot on her hip turns into a bop-it. She snarls and turns just in time for Roi Singe to come at her.

“The Council knows Zhao Kai uncovered the combinations, so that’s probably one of the things they’re going to discuss.” We cut away to the train station, where a small gathering of older men and women in monk robes are approached by Zhao Kai, his choker shining in the late afternoon light.

“Whether it’s ethical won’t even really be on the table, but one or two people will bring it up for show. The real question they’ll be asking is if it’s feasible. Because while yes, All the necessary pieces are in Paris now, that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy, or worth the effort.”

“What do you mean? What pieces are necessary?” Ryuuko’s voice cuts in as Wu Lian is shown duking it out with Roi Singe.

“From you all? Chat Noir, Bloodhound, and Cheshire. Destruction, Amplification, and the range Cacophony allows them.”

“So what, are the three of us supposed to hide out like cowards? Just because we don’t need Black Cat’s Plague doesn’t mean I’m gonna be okay with just sitting on the sidelines!”

“Yes, I refuse to sit on the sidelines while the others continue to risk their lives!”

“I’m not saying you should!” Sun Min responds. “What I AM saying is that you three are gonna be gunned for a little harder. You know… Bait?”

“They said they’re done playing games, so we should probably do so as well. Keep them on their toes?” a few times one sees Luka’s hand hovering over his bracelet as the fights continue. After a certain point Wu Lian begins to look frustrated and shouts “How long are you all going to be playing this game?”

“However long you’re playing along!” Roi Singe chirps. Wu Lian, thinking nothing of the no longer working weapon, picks a hero and throws.

And it goes right through Ladybug, her form vanishing in a cloud of orange. Her gaze snaps a little wider, and Viperion smirks from where he’d been supposedly standing next to her. “Looking for someone, Miss Wolf?”

So where was Ladybug you may ask? Well we cut to Marinette and solve that question. She’s darting through the streets making a careful beeline to the train station while Wu Lian was distracted. And when she arrives she sees, of course, the Council, led in a group by Zhao Kai. Marinette yelps and keeps to the shadows, but it seems like she hasn’t been seen. Seems like.

“Ahh, Miss Ladybug.” but it’s not Zhao Kai that saw her. But instead a little flutter of red and blue as Seema made herself known. The parrot Kwami poking her head out from behind a wall as Marinette jumped in place and yelped. “I figured I'd find you or yours here.”

“P-Parrot Kwami-...”

“I am called Seema.”

“Seema!” Tikki chirps. “Seema you must listen! Your wielder, his charges, what the order has become-!”

“I know Tikki, I know. There are in fact some questions better left unanswered yet my little Kai never learned quite as much.”

“You can’t be okay with this!”

“No one ever said I was. You know as well as I do the restraints Kwami are put under when we disagree with our charges. I think only a few of us have let out attachments cloud our judgement. I however am not one of them. My hatchling will eventually learn the answers he seeks, but if I just told him He’d believe ME biased. They make the same mistakes, these children.” Seema shakes her head. “I can only keep encouraging the curiosity that leads my hatchling. It’s the only way he will learn. But for the others… I cannot say. We would have to council with the others, away from our wielders prying.”

“Seema-”

“Tikki, good luck. I truly hope you and yours come out of it as… unscathed as you can manage.”

Tikki chuckles slightly and hugs Seema. “You too old friend.”

Marinette watches this with a quietly sad look on her face, before her attention is taken again by the council. Marinette takes a deep breath and closes her eyes. The din of the crowds between them turning to white noise and then fading. The voices are muffled from the distance, but Marinette can pick out a few words in…

“Oh goddammit that’s Catonese isn’t it?” She pulls out her phone and starts fussing with it before-

“Okay uh… That might mean… that’s probably… maybe…? Goddammit why did our family have to be Mandarin speakers?”

“He’s likely telling the council of their planned accommodations in M. Agreste’s manor.” Seema responds evenly. “Telling them to brace themselves for the opulence.”

“Uhm… thanks Seema. If you want to help us, would you mind terribly confirming if they really do know the combination spells now?”

“I am not at liberty to talk about such specifics Miss ladybug, sorry to say. However I can inform you that it would be in your best interest to keep your friends safe.”

“Thank you.” she nods.

“It’s my pleasure, now I should be off before I'm missed too keenly.”

And with that Seema was gone. After all, what do gods care for the petty wars of men?

Marinette takes a deep breath and pulls out her phone.

Bugaboo - alright, everyone bide some time for awhile to make sure we don’t have anybody tailing us then reconvene at the base before sunset.

But just as she locks her phone and vanishes into Paris proper, another voice begins to play, now with the heroes going about their own business. “Should this have only been a personal matter between, for instance Tsering Wan and Wang Fu, the council’s presence would not have been necessary. But the fact of the matter is, that for far too long the virtues of the zodiac and the elements have been gone from us for so long that I required fresh data just to be aware of what I was working with. These children have proven to be quite the challenge, which I'm sure any of us could tell you. And with my studies and recent discoveries, I believe we have the means to properly reclaim what is ours while also eliminating those which have been mistreating what they’ve stolen.”

Zhao Kai, is of course speaking, but flanking him on either side are Wu Lian, sporting a new bruise on her cheek, and Tsering Wan, silent and fuming. The other members of the council look between each other, and whisper for a time, before they nod as once. “We shall discuss your proposition, and come to a decision when necessary. As the eldest among us, we do our best to trust your judgement, but this is no decision to make lightly.”

“I understand. We thank you for your time.”

Wu Lian massages her cheek when the meeting concludes, and Tsering Wan places a hand on her shoulder. “Such a wound may be far greater than before in your old age A-Lian.”

“Don’t patronize me.” She smirks at him. “Help me find some ice?” As the two walk off Zhao Kai pulls open his coat and Seema comes out.

“Did you learn of anything, Seema?”

“Tikki seems to like her. Her wielder that is. Tikki’s not a terrible judge of character.”

“Hm. Don’t allow your biases to cloud your mind Seema. Until she is free of the thief’s hands she is not your friend.”

“...of course Hatchling.”

[CN] S2 Gavin and MC in Chapter 2 - Part One

This takes place on the same evening as S1 Chapter 1. So read it first if you need a refresher! 

Timeline: Chapter 1 -> Chapter 2 -> R&S

Had to split this into three parts because it’s too long for one post!

Note: I won’t be doing main storyline translations for the other guys because I don’t have time to read the rest! 😭

Ch 2 begins with MC rushing to her company to find a group of reporters waiting at the entrance

What happened was that the STF received a tip that a large amount of prohibited drugs were found in the company’s warehouse, called “小针筒” ( “xiao zhen tong”) which directly translates to “small syringes”)

The reporters soon spot MC and barrage her with questions. MC tries to enter the company but can’t because of the crowd

??: Step aside.

A chilly voice appears. Along with the night breeze, the air surrounding the crowd lowers by several degrees in an instant. 

The people part into two sides on their own, in awe and veneration. At the end of this path, I see the face of Gavin. 

The boundless night causes his white uniform to appear even colder. His handsome brows are knitted tightly, and his gaze is deep as he walks towards me. 

Gavin: You’re the legal representative of [MC’s Company Name]?

There isn’t a hint of warmth in his voice. I take a deep breath, clenching my hands into fists.

MC: Yes. 

Gavin: [MC’s Company Name] is involved in the distribution of prohibited drugs. To cooperate with the investigation, please follow us to STF.

MC: Although I don’t know anything about what happened, I’m willing to cooperate with STF’s work. 

I raise both of my clenched fists in front of him. 

Gavin lowers his eyes to the fists I’ve raised. He casts a glance at the media personnel in the surroundings, then stares at me deeply, blinking slowly. 

With a ‘kacha’, he personally handcuffs my wrists. The cold light from the handcuffs, along with the continuous photoflashes, illuminate the night. 

Gavin: I’ll escort her myself. 

Before they embark to STF, Gavin is basically in Commander Mode™ and assigns work to various teams. Once he’s done, he asks MC:

Gavin: Isn’t there anything you want to tell me?

With this brief question, I lift my head and look into the rearview mirror.

Gavin’s gaze seems to have been waiting for a long time. 

I’m about to say something, but decide to purse my lips in the end, swallowing back the words. 

MC: Not “now.”

Gavin’s hands pause momentarily on the steering wheel. He retracts his gaze on the rearview mirror, and the air returns to silence. 

Gavin: We’ll talk in STF then.

In STF, MC has to remove all her devices and jewellery. Then, she waits in the interrogation room

MC starts pondering on how she has tried her best to avoid any large discrepancies in this world. Even so, Kiro’s anti-fans, the circulation of prohibited drugs, and Black Swan Core were not things that she recalls happening

She senses that there’s something off about this world, but can’t put a finger on it

The door opens to reveal an interrogator in his early 20s, and he doesn’t look amenable to reason

He fires questions at her harshly and she responds like a BOSS.

We get some important information from the interrogation: Apparently, the drugs enable Evolvers to have heightened abilities. If normal people use them, it could stimulate Evol abilities

Interrogator: Are you the enemy of the STF or the Special Operations Team?

His words leave me stunned. I lower my head and look at the handcuffs on my wrists. Gavin’s profile surfaces in my mind. 

I gradually loosen my tense shoulders, leaning my back against the chair. I lift my head, staring at the interrogator with resoluteness. 

MC: As long as the STF always perseveres in the direction of righteousness, and have every bullet fired in the name of justice, I’ll never be your enemy.

Interrogator: What if there comes a day when the STF leaves its path?

This question seems to slip out of his mouth without him realising it. But the corners of my lips lift slightly.

MC: At that time, there’ll be someone who will steer it back to the way it was. Because he’d never turn his back on the direction of justice. 

Hearing this, he suddenly laughs. 

The doors of the interrogation room are flung open. With a livid expression, Gavin walks in, glaring at him furiously.

Gavin: Tang Chao!

Tang Chao: I’m here!

The target of Gavin’s rebuke shrugs his shoulders, standing up gloomily. He teasingly leans over to Gavin, patting his shoulder flatteringly.

It’s as though he knows the art of changing faces.

[Note] MC is talking about 变脸 (“bian lian”), which is a Chinese drama art form where the actors use a device to change a mask on their face quickly.

Gavin: Participating in an interrogation on your own accord, violating...

Tang Chao: Commander Gavin, please listen to my explanation!

Tang Chao whispers something into Gavin’s ear, and Gavin’s brows smoothen out

MC guesses that Tang Chao told him about the contents of the interrogation

Once he’s done, Tang Chao hums a tune and prepares to leave the room

Gavin: But it’s still a violation. It will be marked as a minor offence. Report to the field. Twenty rounds. Close the door.

The bgm turns tense

After a moment of thinking, he walks over and removes the handcuffs on my wrists. 

His line of sight falls onto the slight redness of my wrists caused by the friction of the handcuffs, and his brows knit.

As though forcing himself to focus his concentration on what’s before him, he sits on the interrogator’s seat. 

Gavin: We’re now in the STF. Is there anything you want to tell me?

The same question as the one in the car. 

Our eyes meet. Perhaps he has been waiting for my answer all this time. 

MC starts explaining that her company has never been involved in the circulation of the drugs, but Gavin cuts her off and says that isn’t what he’s asking about

He asks if MC was the one who reported her own company to STF

MC wonders how he found out about it and Gavin is just REALLY COOL as he explains how he came to this deduction through the process of elimination

MC: It could also be... that my company was truly involved in the circulation of the drugs, and that someone discovered it and reported it?

I look at Gavin tentatively. 

His certainty that I was set up - is it because of the results from the interrogation with Tang Chao, or because he doesn’t doubt my words? 

With this, Gavin releases a cold “hmph”, as though he heard an interesting joke. 

Gavin: Have you done such a thing? 

MC: Of course I haven’t!

Gavin: So why should I waste my time on unnecessary inferences?

I freeze, and all the unease vanishes in an instant. My heart feels light, and I can’t help but lower my head with a smile. 

Gavin didn’t suspect me. He never did. 

Gavin: [coughs]. Back to the main subject.

MC confesses that she was the person who planned it. She planted fake drugs, and they were meant to lure the real circulators out

Gavin then points out that she didn’t have to implicate her own company

MC tells Gavin that she had three reasons for doing what she did. What Gavin pointed out was the second

The first reason was because she needed a safe place to talk to Gavin. To tell him about her suspicions that there’s a traitor in STF

Turns out Gavin already noticed it

SMART BOY is proud of himself:

Gavin’s suspicions were raised because the report relating to Kiro’s anti-fan incident didn't reach him (the anti-fan had traces of needles on his arm + he wasn’t very mentally stable - so he either injected himself with “Small Syringes” or it was forced onto him)

As for the third reason, MC tells him that it isn’t important -  it was so she could tell him the truth asap when she got the chance. However, since Gavin never misunderstood her in the first place, she doesn’t bring it up

MC starts feeling dejected because her plans to tell Gavin that there was an internal issue with STF were somewhat unnecessary, and Gavin had figured out MC’s plan so quickly

As though Gavin senses that I'm feeling slightly defeated, he casts his glance towards the floor, placing a hand on the nape of his neck.

Gavin: But all of these are just my conjectures. 

MC: Hm?

Gavin: Even though your actions are quite dangerous, they can prove my conjectures from a different perspective. In order to bring the truth to light. 

Is he... comforting me?

Gavin: But the reputational damage to your company - have you considered it?

MC: Of course. But I didn’t do those things, so I believe in proving my innocence. 

I tilt my chin slightly with a confident smile. Gavin seems to be infected by me, the corners of his lips curling upwards quietly. 

MC tries asking Gavin to supply information to her if the STF finds any, but he flatly refuses her. He’s confident in STF’s abilities to catch the guy behind the circulation

Gavin stands up and walks towards me, returning me my phone and jewellery. At the same time, he tosses me a bracelet. 

Suddenly, he freezes for a moment, as though he noticed something.

MC: What’s wrong? 

Gavin: You..

Gavin’s lips part slightly, but he doesn’t continue. His gaze once again lands on the ginkgo bracelet he just tossed over. 

I stare at the bracelet, then raise my head to look at Gavin. Puzzled, I lift it up.

MC: Is there a problem with this bracelet? 

Gavin: Have you been wearing it the whole of today?

Images of me coincidentally bumping into Gavin during the day resurface in my mind. 

I also remember that when I was held back, there was a foreign yet clumsy touch on my wrist.

At the time, I couldn’t see his expression clearly. Since Gavin didn’t make mention of it, I didn’t ask either.

Gavin: Aren’t you going to ask why I put this bracelet on for you earlier?

MC: Wearing this tracker is a way I show my trust. 

Gavin’s eyes suddenly grow sharp, but he conceals it in a second. He speaks in a slightly languid manner.

Gavin: What did you say?

I’m suddenly at a loss for words, realising that I shouldn’t have said what I did.

MC: I... was joking. I just thought it was something you'd say. After all, you wouldn’t give me a gift out of nowhere. 

Gavin: Why not? 

His sudden question leaves me at a loss, but he doesn’t seem to need an answer from me. 

Gavin: Forget it. Give me your hand. 

MC: Hm?

Gavin grips my wrist, then takes the ginkgo bracelet from my hand and carefully puts it on for me. 

Gavin: It wasn’t up to standard the last time, so I’ll do it again this time. 

MC: You need to be so particular about putting on a “tracker”?

The light ginkgo bracelet reflects specks of light, without a hint of a dangerous aura.

He smiles, the light in his eyes refreshing and evident, like the coolest breeze in summer.

Gavin: Of course.

He responds lightly, meticulously hooking the bracelet. His fringe brushes his eyes, waves rippling in his amber eyes under the light.

His fingers are reminiscent of thin cocoons, gently brushing across my wrist, bringing with it a certain warmth.

Looking at such a Gavin, I think of a day from a very long time ago, when he had once meticulously helped me put on a ginkgo bracelet.

After going around in a circle, we have returned to our original places. 

Gavin: All right, don’t take it off again next time. 

MC: Aren’t I undergoing an interrogation? They prohibited me from bringing along any equipment or jewellery.

Gavin: There’s no need to remove it next time. Just say that I was the one who put it on for you.

He says this unexpectedly, leaving me seated in a daze, not returning to my senses even after a long time.

Gavin: How many more times do you want to be interrogated?

MC: No more, no more. 

I hurriedly get to my feet and run after Gavin, noticing his slightly tender smile. 

He coughs lightly. Before he opens the door, he turns to look at me. 

The music is gentle and everything is beautiful

He tells her that STF will investigate the drugs incident, and will clear the name of MC’s company. Which is why she no longer has to get involved in this matter. 

MC refuses

aND THEN THE MUSIC GETS TENSE AGAIN

Hearing me say this, the warm atmosphere disintegrates in an instant. Gavin’s eyebrows are tightly knit, and he looks slightly irritated. 

Gavin: You no longer want your life because of your work with Black Swan? Miss Nox?!

He shouts the name solemnly, leaning his hand against the wall next to me. His voice brings with it conflict and vexation.

His sudden and evident anger gives me a fright.

MC: ...that’s not it.

I lower my head. When I see that the tips of our feet are about to touch, a sourness surfaces in my heart. 

If this drug can really heighten Evol, and can cause Evol to awaken in normal people, it definitely has an inescapable link to Black Swan Core. 

I’ve been thinking back to the reasons why I started all over again, but the speed at which things are developing in this world have not given me much opportunity to do so.

Black Swan Core is this world’s biggest hint to me. 

And this drug could be a certain key closest to it. 

In order to return to how things were before. In order for all of us to see a simple and insignificant tomorrow.

I need the answer this drug can bring.

I lift my head slowly, looking at Gavin who is standing before me.

MC: This has nothing to do with BS. Everything I’ve done is for myself. In order to complete what I want to do, I’m not afraid of anything. 

Gavin: Is this goal the same reason why you joined Black Swan?

His face is illuminated by the chilly lights. In his cold eyes, I see a complete me. 

MC: Yes.

They leave the interrogation room

Tang Chao stands outside and has a report - the drugs in MC’s company were actual “Small Syringes”. Someone had swapped them

Before MC even starts panicking, it turns out Gavin has everything under control. The doors to STF have been sealed shut, and they can now catch the person who has been causing the internal trouble

Gavin: MC, don’t go off on your own. Wait for my arrangements. Tang Chao, take care of her. 

Tang Chao takes her to a special room in STF which has around a hundred images of what’s happening in STF

Lu Yi is also around (the guy whose Evol allows him to control the flow of information i.e. he can send footage over to Gavin when needed

Tang Chao comments that his Evol is being able to tell if someone is lying

He gives her a earpiece which allows her to hear all of Gavin’s sexy commands. Tang Chao explains that Gavin wanted her to have the earpiece for ease of communication

I touch this tiny earpiece gently. Hearing Gavin’s familiar voice causes one to feel at ease.

Tang Chao points at a tiny button on the earpiece, signalling that she can talk if she presses it. But she just can’t feel for it, so he reaches out...

Tang Chao: The button is...

Gavin: Tang Chao, put your hands away. 

Tang Chao: Commander Gavin, I haven't even touched her!

Gavin: If you do, your punishment of running will be doubled. 

In the middle of the screens, Gavin’s arms are across his chest. While he waits for information on the next suspect, he looks into the camera coldly.

Gavin shouldn’t be able to see what’s happening, but Tang Chao is still trembling at the side. 

Gavin: You should know that I wasn’t lying about what I said. 

Tang Chao: Ah Sir, that’s not how my Evol works. I’ve been industriously listening in on whether these fellows have been telling lies. 

Gavin: Then listen properly. MC, stay further away from him.

I laugh softly, taking a step away from Tang Chao in a joking manner. 

With a bitter expression on his face, Tang Chao runs to a corner, while Lu Yi nods at me in resignation. 

Tang Chao: Captain Gavin, I’m someone who knows your little secret. Could you lessen my punishment by two rounds?

Gavin: You can try.

In her mind, MC notes that despite how tense the situation is, everyone is pretty calm

Whether it’s Tang Chao or Lu Yi, they are simply one part of this group of talented individuals.

And Gavin is the captain of this special operations team.

Actually, I’m confused as to why Tang Chao would tell me all these things so directly. 

In a corner, Tang Chao seems to sense my confusion. He points at Gavin on the screen. 

Tang Chao: It was all Captain Gavin’s idea. 

AND THEN GAVIN LOOKS INTO THE CAMERA AND MC NOTES THAT THEIR EYES ‘MEET’ LOL

I suddenly recollect the time I re-lived my 16 year old self. 

Watermelons, bubbling soda, electronic fans and the incessant cries of cicadas, the rustling of pens and the voice of teachers have formed the musical notes of summer.

The youth who ran over from the window wearing a loose shirt - this time, I can finally see his eyes clearly. 

They contain the same light as the him on screen - direct and candid.

Hello unforth! Thank you for your wonderful blog, and the the untamed art blog!! I followed you years ago for destiel, and you were one of the people that got me into the untamed. I watched it last summer and have been binging various cdramas ever since!! I had a question for you about reading. After watching the untamed I read the novel, and didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I think you’re someone who prefers the show, but if not, sorry if I’m remembering wrong… hoping you understand. I want to try reading other novels but I found the romance in mdzs to be kinda off. I guess I’m wondering if you have a recommendation for the best novel you’ve read so far? It would be great if it’s one with fanfic but if not I’m still curious to try! I hope this didn’t come off as rude about the untamed, it’s just a personal preference. Thanks in advance, and thanks again for all your work in fandom!

You have not misremembered, I definitely prefer the Untamed to the novel of MDZS (and I'm with you, no shade on people with different preferences, of course!). I also didn't enjoy the novel of MDZS as much as I thought I would, though I think some of that was because I read the Exiled Rebels Scanalations translation which - again, no shade, translating that was a HUGE job and kudos to them - but I do here from native speakers that some questionable translation choices were made, which can detract from some people's enjoyment of the novel (and can enhance other people's, it just depends how those translation choices relate to each person's personal likes and dislikes).

Now, I can tell you what I've read and what I've thought of each one, happily - I don't know what turned you off about MDZS specifically, beyond an aspect of the relationship dynamic, so it'll be hard for me to say which of these might appeal to you more? But, here's a list of which danmei novels I've read, and my opinion. The list is shorter than you'd think - danmei novels are long and I read slow, lol.

Note that all of these end happy, for various definitions of "happy," and the main ship is canon in all of them. Also note that I tried to avoid spoilers, but sometimes it's hard to even talk about the ship dynamic without some mild spoilers.

These are (roughly) in the order I've read them; I just finished the last a few days ago. All art is by the official artists, but I'm not always sure what their names are, sorry - I've tried to figure them out for my art blogs but it's REALLY hard.

1. Mo Dao Zu Shi, by MXTX.

(since I'm writing this post for you, and you're already familiar with it, I'm not putting in TW and plot)

My take: I figure knowing my opinion of MDZS will help you assess all this? There are things I loved about MDZS, including the book, but MDZS is still obviously trying to figure out pacing. Whereas in SVSSS, the storyline doesn't always flow that smoothly and the ending is rushed, in MDZS in my opinion the biggest issue is that she clearly didn't plan some things ahead. For example, Miangmian and Wen Ning are both introduced within a few pages of when they'll be needed to Do Shit. It shows that she hadn't quite worked everything out as she was going, and every once in a while was like, "shit shit I need a character for this thing" and hastily added them. The plot itself is better paced, though, though I could have wished for a less talky denouement. When it was the only one I read, I also often thought, "this author doesn't understand consent," and, "this author has kinks I don't share." Now that I've read all three of her books, I completely retract the first one. MXTX absolutely understands consent, and was intentionally playing with it in MDZS. Not sure if the evidence of that got lost in translation, or what, but...yeah.

Relationship Dynamic: ...the second of those opinions, I still kinda feel. The consensual non-con is just not really my thing, like I'm okay with it in small doses? And I don't love some aspects of Lan Wangji's domineering attitudes and Wei Wuxian's act of bare tolerating it. And don't get me wrong, now that I'm more familiar with her work, I think it was an intentional writing choice and I also think they're both largely roleplaying it a lot of the time...but I still don't personally enjoy it much.

2. Scum Villain Self-Saving System, by MXTX.

Genre: modern transmigration into a fantasy xianxia world.

Where to find it: English translation by BC Novels | donghua season 1

Trigger warnings for: graphic descriptions of suffering, non-con of the "fuck or die" variety, and body horror...I can't think of anything else rn?)

Plot: SVSSS is MXTX's first novel, and is a satire of classic stag harem novels. Shen Yuan, the protagonist and half the main ship, is reading a serialized web novel by "Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky" about a demon named Luo Binghe who has a harem of over 3,000 women and has done all kinds of ghastly awful things. He hates this novel but has read all, like, 3 million words of it or something, and trolls every chapter...until one gets him so angry that he dies...and then he wakes up in the book right around when the book starts, in the body of one of the early antagonists, a cultivator named Shen Qingqiu who abuses a young, innocent Luo Binghe physically and emotionally and, ultimately, is horribly tortured to death. Shen Yuan, in Shen Qingqiu's body, thus sets out to not be horribly tortured to death by Luo Binghe. Hijinks ensue.

My Take: In terms of my opinion of it...SVSSS secured for me that MXTX is a much more brilliant author than I thought when I'd only read MDZS. She understands tropes and subverts them brilliantly throughout the story, and from a writing standpoint, I was impressed with her. However, from a plot standpoint...she's got all the ideas but hasn't, imo, yet figured out how exactly to bring them all together. The pacing is off at times, and the ending felt abrupt to me. It's also the only danmei I've read where I ship a side ship more than the primary one (which is, of course, Shen Yuan (as Shen Qingqiu)/Luo Binghe. (also, oops...I read SVSSS after TGCF and just put them in the wrong order, oh well, not gonna change it now.)

Relationship Dynamic: In terms of relationship weirdness...it's hard to sort in that regard, because, like, it's supposed to be weird? I think it's a really interest book but I'm not sure I'd recommend it in your situation. Bingqiu's main dynamic is...uh...tolerance and obsession? They're kinda hard to describe. Shen Yuan often seems like he's just kinda putting up with Luo Binghe, whereas Luo Binghe is...god. So hard to describe, lmao. He's a big clumsy ox in a museum full of porcelain dishes and he really, really loves his Shizun. (also note that Shen Qingqiu is Luo Binghe's teacher. They don't get together until after they're not master/student, but if that's not your thing, another reason to avoid.)

3. Tian Guan Ci Fu, by MXTX.

Genre: historical China (loosely), xianxia (note that I'm still figuring out exactly how stuff gets classified so sorry if I get one wrong, but I think I kinda get it???)

Where to Access It: English Translation by the astonishing yummysuika | manhua (this is an official translation by Bilibili! It's a few chapters behind the actual release, but still...) | donghua season 1 is on Netflix | a live action adaptation is juuuuust getting started on script reading and filing

Trigger warnings for: MCD, temporary MCD, body horror, graphic violence, epic levels of mind fuckery, uh...genocide?...again, racism/colorism, probably other stuff, sorry, I can't take as long as I'd like to for this post so I'm not being as thorough as I oughta be.

Plot: TGCF is about Xie Lian, an 800 year old man, and it commences at the moment when, unexpectedly, he ascends to godhood...for the third time. Unfortunately, when he ascends, he accidentally does some damage in Heaven, and he has to repay that, so he gets sent back to earth to deal with a ghost who's been causing some problems. Hijinks ensue...and then fucktons of angst ensue...then more hijinks...then more angst...and basically it broke my heart like four times and I am grateful for it every day? The main ship is Xie Lian and a ghost named Hua Cheng, but it's hard to even talk about without some spoilers because of some identity shenanigans. (they're VERY mildly identity shenanigans, but still).

My Take: So, you asked what my favorite of the danmei novels I've read is? It's TGCF. TGCF is one of my favorite novels ever, and it has a growing fandom, a donghua that's on Netflix, and a live action that's just starting to film. TGCF is the culmination of the skills MXTX developed through her first two works, imo. She clearly plotted it out all from the start, and while Book 1 especially often seems kind of random - lots of elements are introduced and then kinda...apparently...forgotten? And never explained? But she actually DOES bring it ALL together and it's flat-out masterful. I'm a big fan, obviously.

Relationship Dynamic: it again depends on your preferences and what you didn't like about MDZS, and there's no way to talk about it without spoilers, so consider yourselves warned. Xie Lian ascended to godhood first at the age of 17, and right around then he also saved the life of a 10 year old boy...and that boy is Hua Cheng. Hua Cheng is a follower of Xie Lian's, in that Xie Lian is literally a god, and Hua Cheng is literally one of his followers. However, they're separated for almost 800 years, so the age difference is largely irrelevant, and while some people complain about Hua Cheng's behavior being stalkery and obsessive, I honestly think they're dead wrong. It's more like when you read a celebrity/fan AU, and it starts weird, and then they really genuinely fall in love. Like, the fan may have been in love the whole time, and how they felt about the celebrity before they really met might feel slightly ooky, but it's how they act AFTER they meet their idol that matters more, and...yeah, Hua Cheng is great, they're both great, antis fight me. Xie Lian is easily one of my favorite characters EVER, he is all my favorite tropes in one horribly, wonderfully fucked up martyristic idealistic sweet kind laid back package. I would kill for him, lmao. In terms of their relationship dynamic...they love and respect each other? There's really nothing that weird about it other than the aspects of the "fan" Hua Cheng that get revealed over time - and he's always terrified that when Xie Lian realizes what a fanboy he was, Xie Lian will be upset or disgusted, but of course Xie Lian never is. They adore each other. It's glorious. Highly recommend. :D There's also no explicit content in TGCF (unlike MXTX's other two books).

4. The Husky and His White Cat Shizun (aka 2ha) by Meatbun Doesn't Eat Meat.

Genre: original world, xianxia, time travel, dimension hopping, it's so many things, 2ha is so hard to describe lmao

Where to Access it: English Translation by the amazing yummysuika (things are complicated, though, and it's not finished) | a manhua is in the works and should be out this year | a live action called "Hao Yixing" or "Immortality" is already filmed and could theoretically air literally any time cause it's completely ready, but when will it actually come? Who knows!

Trigger warnings: all of them. Literally. MCD, temporary MCD, murder, suicide, suicidal ideation, suicide attempt, rape/non-con, abuse, manipulation, gas lighting, torture, graphic violence, body horror, literal graphic onscreen horrible blood murder of a small child (I had to skip that chapter), teacher/student relationship sort of but not exactly, probably other stuff, this book is dark as fuck, and a lot of these tags apply to behavior of one half of the main ship toward the other, but...it's complicated, and there are reasons things happen, and those reasons aren't "well they're just a bad person."

Plot: This is another one that's hard to describe because there's sooooo much mind fuckery going on, but I'll try. 2ha is about Mo Ran, who rises to be the Emperor of the World, Taxian Jun, but slaughtering all who oppose him...and who is so miserable that he commits suicide, only to wake up in his 16 year old body. This is pretty much perfect from Mo Ran's point of view, because he's gone back so far that the love of his life, his fellow disciple Shi Mei, is still alive. He has a chance to fix everything that went wrong, starting with preventing his awful evil Shizun, Chu Wanning, from letting Shi Mei die.

Spoilers: the main ship in this book is Mo Ran/Chu Wanning.

Hijinks do NOT ensue. There are no hijinks in 2ha. It is all pain all the time (but I swear it ends happy).

My Take: ...well, from a structural standpoint there are some pacing issues. The book is incredibly long (over 300 chapters, over 1 million words) and there are definitely some chunks that could just be excised and it'd still be fine. However, other than that, it's pretty amazing and absolutely masterful how it's plotted. As a reader you'll spend 100+ chapters thinking you know what's going on, and who the good guys are, and who the bad guys are, and how they relate to each other...and then Meatbun starts in on revealing what's ACTUALLY going on and she then spends 200 chapters repeatedly punching you in the face! Like, I went in knowing a LOT of spoilers, because the tags were so dark that I felt that for my mental health it was important I have a general idea what was going on, and I STILL ended up sobbing my eyes out (and I am NOT an easy crier and don't usually cry at books) over something I knew was coming.

Relationship Dynamic: That's about the only thing that the title accurately conveys about this book. "The Husky and His White Cat Shizun," sounds so soft and fluffy, right? That's how they get you, ha. But, Mo Ran is absolutely a big dumb husky who wants to do the right thing (well, sometimes he does) but just completely fails depressingly often. When he sees someone he likes come in the front door he WILL jump all over them and bark in their face as his way of trying to communicate affection. And Chu Wanning is equally absolutely a cat. He is emotionally constipated, poor at expressing himself, uptight, touch starved, desperate for affection, and so lonely my chest hurts when I think about him. And for how they relate to each other...well, picture that big dog greeting a loved one at the door...except that loved one is the most hide-bound proud white cat you can imagine.

That's their dynamic.

(However, also...there are multiple timelines at play, and Taxian Jun does some truly awful things to "his" Chu Wanning in the original timeline, and many of these things are graphically described, and while it's ultimately all explained, it still all HAPPENS, so if you're going to have trouble reading fucktons of abuse between the main ship, I would not recommend this book)

5. Thousand Autumns (Qianqiu) by Meng Xi Shi.

Genre: historical China (like, references actual people, as far as I can tell), xianxia

Where to Access it: ...reading Thousand Autumns is HARD, it's split over like four websites/translators. This Carrd can kinda help? I can get you the rest if you want | donghua season 1 | I heard there's a live action in the works? But I don't know more than that.

Trigger warnings: graphic violence, mentions/threats of sexual violence (but it's all stopped before things really go wrong), starvation, description of child death (from starvation), near-death, emotional/mental abuse, major semi-permanent character injury, god, minor character death, they're major characters depending on your pov, I can't actually think of others, after writing about 2ha it feels positively fluffy). Note that there's not really any explicit content, just implications of smut, and not til basically the very end and extras.

Plot: Yan Wushi, sect leader of a demonic sect, has just come out of an extended seclusion to improve his cultivation when he and one of his disciples come across a man who is wounded to the point of near death. This turns out to be Shen Qiao, the sect leader of Mount Xuandu. When Shen Qiao awakens from his wounds, he's lost his memory, AND he's blind, and Yan Wushi decides it would be great fun and an excellent use of his time to fuck with Shen Qiao by trying to turn him evil - because Yan Wushi is certain that ALL people are inherently evil, and shattering Shen Qiao's veneer of righteousness will just help prove that.

Spoilers: it's not a veneer.

Not spoilers: Not many hijinks ensue, but there are a few hijinks, and even when it's not hijinxed, it's still not that painful...usually.

My Take: despite that synopsis, a lot of the plot of Thousand Autumns is actually political, and I like political plots, so I liked that aspect of it. However, it has some serious pacing issues imo, and it's also hard to read in English atm because it's not fully translated; it's close, now, much closer than when I read it a few months ago, so it'll be easier to read soon. Or maybe I shouldn't say it's pacing problems, but rather, it's more of a sequence of multiple major plots, strung together, with the growing relationship between Yan Wushi and Shen Qiao playing out in the background. I think if I'd known there was no "one big plot" that would have actually helped me, because it kept feeling like, "Oh, THIS is the main thing," but it never was. Things would feel climactic...except then there'd be more. So it's probably better to actually think of it as more...episodic? And the episodes/stories build, and interrelate, and do have a culmination, but not all of them directly tie in, and not all the threads end up coming together/getting resolved.

Relationship Dynamic: early on, Yan Wushi is definitely abusive and manipulative, intentionally so, and I would argue that, imo, Shen Qiao falls for it. However, mid-way through, there's some big reveals, and after that when they're reunited Shen Qiao no longer takes any shit and Yan Wushi continues to act like he doesn't care even when he clearly does. They're not a typical ship in ANY WAY, and I'd say their relationship is more founded on mutual respect than on love. Indeed, in the author's notes at one point MXS actually says they doesn't see them as the kind of couple to ever exchange love declarations, and I thought that was really interesting and it really helped me to understand how they worked together because I'll own I struggled with at times. Yan Wushi is self-interested, often cruel, and ethically and morally dubious. Shen Qiao, on the other hand, could probably ascend to Daoist godhood, he's so pure. Yet...they DO work. I'd say "opposites attract" but that's ALSO not their main trope, not exactly. They're a VERY hard ship to explain, and I know some people who've read the whole book and still don't really...get them...and I've had to really think about them to wrap my head around them...but the more I've thought about them, the more I like them.

6. Those Years in Quest of Honor Mine by Man Man He Qi Duo.

Genre: historical fiction set in either actual China or make-believe China, I'm not sure if this is directly incorporated any real people

Where to Access It: English Translation by Perpetual Daydreams | manhua (untranslated, I'm not sure if there's anyone translating it into English) | I think there's a live action in the works? Not sure beyond that though.

Trigger Warnings: suicide attempts, suicidal ideation, drug addiction, drug abuse, chronic illness (different character than the drugs), manipulation, abusive, awful parents and parental figures (not all, but definitely some), some homophobia (but way less than there could have been), probably other stuff

Plot: After 7 years away, Zhong Wan returns to the capital of the Empire with the three children of his benefactor, the seven-years-dead Prince Ning. Prince Ning was executed for treason against the previous Emperor, and Zhong Wan has done all he can to protect and raise the three kids, but he's got a lot of worries about returning to the capital and what could happen to his charges if they get pulled into the politics surrounded the Emperor. But, even worse, he's got even more worries about being reunited with Yu She, nephew of the Emperor, with whom he has more than a little history...and about whom he has been lying for the past 7 years, claiming that he is Yu She's lover, in a bid to help use Yu She's reputation to protect Prince Ning's children.

Hijinks ensue.

And so does a political nightmare.

My Take: TYQHM was a hard book to get into because there are just so many characters and it's all about politics - this is NOT a xianxia or wuxia novel, and these characters are NOT cultivators. There's basically nothing supernatural in the whole book; instead, it's about Zhong Wan and Yu She figuring out their own histories, and accepting each other, while trying to survive in a political world that increasingly wants both of them dead. However, I adore political plots, and when all was said and done I really enjoyed it, and I'm trying tooth and nail to claw other people into the fandom with me, so far with basically no success. It only has like 15 works in English on AO3. And so not only does it not fit that requirement of yours...

Relationship Dynamic: ...I think you would also probably not like the relationship dynamic? Zhong Wan is a bit like Wei Wuxian-as-Mo Xuanyu, except more...genuinely? Like, it's his actual personality, not an act, in quite the same way. I don't mean the "flamboyantly gay" part...usually...he definitely has his moments...but he's just...like, he's been through so much that he'll basically say anything, and drag himself entirely through the mud, to distract people who might hurt the three kids (they're like 16, 13, 13, now I think? It was never THAT clear to me, tbh...certainly, all are at least 10...) and, later, Yu She. He has zero face, and doesn't mind having negative face when he feels the situation demands it...and Yu She, on the other hand, has MAJOR depression issues, is sure he deserves nothing, and mostly wants to destroy everyone around him and then kill himself, at least until Zhong Wan starts giving him a reason to live again. But, more than that...Zhong Wan is like the fucking epitome of a bratty subby bottom. He wants to get fucked SO bad. And Yu She is an incredibly reluctant dom, hilariously so at times, uncomfortably/manipulative so at others. When all was said and done, I was pretty fond of them both, but there were definitely moments that made me grimace, and given what you say of how you felt about MDZS, I think this one is less likely to be to your taste?

Bonus 7: Guardian by Priest. I never finished the novel version of Guardian because the translation had some issues that caused me not to enjoy it, so I won't get into it too much, but again, Guardian is a very different book than any of the others, because it's modern fantasy(ish, like, it's still deeply embedded in Daoist-related tropes but it's more "magic spells" and less "cultivation." Like, in terms of what it's like, it felt more like Japanese modern Onmyoji style stories, to me, than it felt like the ancient Chinese wuxia/xianxia cultivation stories.). I'm not gonna get into lots of details, because I read part of the book more than a year ago, and have seen the show (which is VERY different) like three times, so I can hardly even remember what they're like in the novel. There was definitely some weirdness, though? If you're potentially interested, I'd suggest starting with the drama instead. The plot for that is...

Plot: Zhao Yunlan heads a Special Investigation Unit in the human world tasked with maintaining a treaty between humans and the dixigren ("undergrounders") who are (in the show) aliens (in the book...it's the world of the dead). While doing this job, he keeps running into this professor, Shen Wei, who definitely knows more than he oughta.

Hijinks ensue.

And then it murders you with feels.

I am so so sorry that it took me this long to continue my LoF watching posts! RL, y’know. Ep 26 felt like a good place to take a breather, as well, so that’s what I did.

 Anyway, let’s move on to eps 27 and 28!

It’s exposition time! Zhou Fei and ChuChu are at a tea house and hear about an army deserter who was trained on the Mountain of the Immortals (has this been mentioned before... IDK), was poisoned and became a monk. A-Fei thinks this story sounds familiar (indeed it does, indeed it does...) and ChuChu remembers having read sth like this in a book (the book of ... Peng Lai? I think?).

Oh look, Huo Fort becomes relevant again! I forgot about them. Anyway, Huo Lintao, who is now the boss and seems to not be well liked basically everywhere, wants to fight Disha and invites people from Jianghu to his Destroy Disha Assembly (God, I just love that name XD). Li Sheng & 48 Strongholds get an invite and he wants to investigate. Huo Fort is also... attacked by random cultivators I guess?

Meanwhile, let’s check in on Yin Pei! He still can’t deal with his internal injury (loss of internal power? still not sure; I’m assuming it’s sth like severe damage to a golden core in xanxia or even complete loss of one) and scours Old Daoist Master Chongxiao’s rooms for the Phoenix Pill, which... I think gives you lots of power but is also really super dangerous? 

This show sure has lots of useful but also dangerous power restoring/improving pills and needles, huh?

Anyway, Yin Pei takes the pill. He does not feel so good. Uh oh.

Li Yan and Yang Jin go in search for A-Fei again – uhm, didn’t A-Fei simply go into town with ChuChu? Why are they searching for her again, other that Yang Jin wants to fight her because one obvious defeat isn’t enough? I'm guessing there has been a time skip again...

Meanwhile, at Disha Manor! Shen Tianshu is nursing his wounded ego I guess, while Chu Tianyu, an older member, is now supposed to take care of all this drama, but he doesn’t really want to because he’s retired. How many weird members of Disha are there?

Oh okay, so Yin Pei goes kinda crazy because of the scabbard since it seems to be gone, takes more of the Phoenix Pills, which is a fucking stupid idea, we get some exposition that this might turn him into a demon of some sort, and then he kills Chongxiao for the scabbard because he thinks that the old master wants it for himself.

Which, you know, isn’t true, but that’s what you get for being so secretive, I guess. Chongxiao actually wanted the scabbard so a forger could make lots of copies of it, so that Yin Pei can keep the original one. *sigh* Well, too late now. Yin Pei also meets that evil guy from way back in ep 7 or 8 who’d fought Chongxiao and Li Sheng, who calls himself the Black Judge (I’m too lazy to look up his name and hope he doesn’t really become that relevant). 

I’m kinda sad that Yin Pei simply seems to go the “Oops I’m super crazy now“ route instead of having a more interesting redemption arc. I also... don’t really know what he wants to do now? He’s got the scabbard of his father... Are there still people alive he could take revenge on? Disha I guess?

But! The song that plays while Yin Pei confronts Chongxiao is awesome! I'm in love.♥

Back to the main characters, thank you! Xie Yun is really ill and freezing, the poison taking its toll. He’s at the same inn as two new characters (noooo, no more characters, have mercy!) Zhu Chen and Zhu Ying of the small Zhu sect, who are there for that assembly. They eye XY and feel sorry for him. We instantly know that these are Good People.

Aaaaaand introducing another new character, Ying Hecong, Poison Doctor! I know he’s relevant because he’s got a poster!

Of course Zhou Fei just misses Xie Yun in that inn. *sigh* But then she meets Li Yan and Yang Jin there, which is nice. 

Yet another new character!  He’s Black Tortoise Ding Kui and has henchman that are dressed in a rather peculiar way. Is this now the same as with that Azure Dragon guy, and I don’t really have to remember him? He’s from the 4 Guardians Mountain (speaking of which, where tf is Mu XiaoQiao!?).

Okay okay I see now. Everyone is in LingLing for that meet up with the Huo family! Madame Nichang is there too! Ah my beloved! ♥ She tells Xie Yun to follow his heart, and not be stupid and only think of his end. 

Xie Yun is all evasive of course, and then he meets up with Cheng Zichen who of course is also there! Because of this he finds out that Zhou Fei is there, too, which puts him into a conflict. Because his running away was going so well, dammit!

On to Ep 28!

Xie Yun hides out in the carriage with Ling Yu of the Feather Robe Troupe, who slyly comments on him running away from Zhou Fei. He’s sad and says that it’s not A-Fei’s fault and that he’s just an unlucky person who is not good for her. T_T Kill me, why don’t you.

A-Fei has learned a lot and notices XY’s ruse, yay go my heroine!♥

She catches him and they fight, and she asks him about the poison. Zhou Fei obviously suspects ahhhh! (╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻ But of course when XY seems happy that she was looking for him, she goes all haughty again and is like, “It’s only because of the HYTS!“ (although no it was mainly because of him and she looks light she might burst into tears any moment now, too...)

They get distracted by the procession of Black Tortoise Master walking by and A-Fei knocks XY out. They’re even now! XD

Nice to see the whole gang together as A-Fei drags the unconscious Xie Yun to an inn! ChuChu my beloved! ♥

OMG Li Sheng and Yang Jin getting into this peacock fight! XD Li Sheng scolds his sister and Yang Jin is super pissed about it. Li Yan is looking sooo smug, like “Yep that's my very own protective himbo!“ XD

Then Li Sheng is sent off to find Madame Nichang because she at least might know what to do about Xie Yun.

Ding Kui arrives at the Hui Fort. If I understood correctly... Hui Lintao wants to... kill all the cultivators when they arrive for his assembly? Or just those other cultivators that are randomly attacking him? There's traps in the forest they have go through. He specifically mentions that the traps are set after Daoist Master Chongxiao’s design, so hm might Li Sheng be of great help here later? Anyway, that old guy from Disha is there and seems to find all of this very funny. I’m confused.

Mu Xiaoqiao my love!!!!!!! He’s back!!!!  For about 5 seconds but there he is, looking fabulous! ☆*: .｡. o(≧▽≦)o .｡.:*☆

Ding Kui (who... has left the Huo Fort I guess) wants to work with him and reminds him of his debt to the Huo Fort. I had forgotten about that.

Oh let’s check in for about a minute on Yin Pei, who is still crazy and slaughters some people... uhm somewhere. He also now calls himself the true Master of Clear Light. [at least I think it’s supposed to be his new name?] Nicely written on the door in blood. Okay then.

But the instrumental of his song plays in the background, making all of this much more epic, so it’s fine.

Madame Nichang arrives, is shocked, and states that Xie Yun is poisoned, as A-Fei feared, and he has a year if he doesn’t use his internal force anymore. A-Fei is devastated and we get their love song while she rubs his (supposedly) ice-cold hand. Oh my heart. T_T

Ying Hecong arrives because he wants to see the poisoned guy! XD He has never heard of tact. 

Since A-Fei is desperate she lets him in, and we get some exposition in bits and pieces. Ying Hecong first assumes that XY must’ve been poisoned about a month ago (which fits the fight against Disha, where he used the needle), but wonders how that could be because Lian Sheng (the poisoner known for bone piercing blue) has been missing for a while longer. He lets slip that he isn’t actually a doctor, uhm yeah....

Oh not A-Fei is so sad and crying, nooooo T_T She’s angry at XY, asking why he had to meddle in her affairs and then leave to just die somewhere alone. Oh nooooo.  ಥ_ಥ ಥ_ಥ ಥ_ಥ

(side note: easy scene for Wang Yibo, just lying there the whole time, no lines for once XD)

A-Fei gets the Tianmen Lock from Madam Nichang (a special lock that has a double lock mechanism that is very difficult to open. Md. Nichang actually alludes to this lock being very useful for lovers and I’m like... okay XD). YunFei are kinky as ever, nothing new here – A-Fei is so pissed at XY that she doesn’t want him to have the chance to run away again. XD

Loved how XY complained about the lock destroying his posture. XD And how Zhou Fei’s like, “It’s not my fault you’re bound like that, Li Sheng is to blame!“ while the flashback tells us, that uhm no, he’s not. XD

Ending with A-Fei telling Yang Jin about the Hai Tian Yi Se. Ah they’re important relics it seems. Well whatever. XY listens in.

I really need to keep on watching, it seems stuff is happening.

Burnt Bacon pt 3

The Light Finds Wall First.

“You’re sure about this?” Will asks gently, as he packs Lian’s little overnight bag. 

“The Shadows sent him here for you,” Artemis says. “He’ll come back, and you and Lian can’t be here when he does.” 

“But you can?” Will asks, turning to her, looking worried. “Artemis...whatever that thing is...I don’t think it’s Wally anymore.” 

“Beetle is waiting for you out front. You and Lian zeta to Happy Harbour,” she instructs, gently lifting a sleeping Lian from her bed and handing her to Will. “I’ll call when it’s done.” 

He stares at her for a long moment. “What are you going to do?” 

“Don’t worry about me.” 

“Artemis-” 

“Go, Will.” 

He swallows, holding Lian close, before hurrying from the room. 

She follows him down the stairs, nodding to Jaime as they leave. 

Once they’re gone, Artemis turns on all the first floor lights, and waits.

“You have failed, Nameless.” 

“My first attempt was...unsuccessful,” he admits. “I will not fail you again, Master.” 

“See that you don’t.” 

***** 

“No sign of him,” Dick says as they exit the zeta tube into the Watchtower. “It’s as if he’s completely disappeared.” 

“I’m not surprised,” Barbara says as she shifts her chair over to them from the wall of screens she’s been looking at. “I did some digging into the Shadow’s database. The Nameless has been trained in ten different kinds of combat, and six languages...he can hide in plain sight. And with Will and Lian here…” 

“We don’t know when or where he’ll strike next,”

She waits hours, but it pays off. 

The door opens, and there he is; clad in deep black, darker than his old stealth suit, but  his Shadows uniform is a strange perversion of his Kid Flash uniform, complete with goggles and bright hair, much shorter than he ever wore it before.

Artemis stands, staring at him. “It took you long enough.” 

He stands still, more still than she’s ever seen him, watching her. 

“You’re not my objective,” he says. 

Wally’s voice but...not. No playfulness or warmth. 

Just..dead.

“Well, I hate to break it to you, but you’ll have to get through me to get to him.” 

The Nameless smirks. “Doesn’t seem like much of a challenge.” 

Artemis cracks her knuckles and then her neck. “I guess we’ll find out.” 

***** 

“Where is Artemis?” Dick asks as he watches Barbara run scan after scan. 

“We do not know,” Kaldur says. “She said she just needed time.” 

“That’s...not exactly true,” Will says awkwardly as he steps back into the main meeting hall after tucking Lian in. “She stayed behind at the house. She had a feeling Wally, or...or whatever thing that with Wally’s face is...would come back. She said she had to face him alone.” 

Dick and Kaldur stare, eyes wide. 

“Babs?” Dick asks. 

“Definite activity at the house in Star City,” she tells them.

“Get M’gann and Conner,” Kaldur orders. “I’ll find Zatanna and meet you at the zeta tube.” 

Dick runs. 

“You should have told us,” Kaldur tells Will. 

“I didn’t think he’d seriously double back,” Will snaps. “He can’t possibly think I would still be there.” 

“Artemis purposefully lured him there. If Wally is faster than he used to be, and trained to fight in ways he was not before, she may not be able to beat him alone.” 

***** 

They wreck the house. 

She fights harder than she has ever fought in her life. Not holding back, not pulling punches and ever time she manages to connect, it hurts her as much as it hurts him. But it’s a pain she ignores.

He’s not invulnerable. He has the weaknesses of any other man.

He’s just so damn fast. 

“Y’know, Wall-man, if you had this kinda training when we were kids, I mighta dated you sooner.” 

He doesn’t respond, merely grunts when she manages to grab him by the hair and yank, slamming his head against a wall. 

He stumbles back and makes a run for it, zooming around the house, and up the wall, before landing behind her with a hard kick to her back.

She yelps and lands on the floor. Artemis does her best to get up, wiping blood from her nose. 

“I hope you know this is not how I pictured this reunion.” 

He says nothing. 

She looks him in the eyes. Still green. Still beautiful. “Do you even remember me?” 

***** 

He blinks, narrowing his eyes at her. He’s got a busted lip, and possibly a couple of busted ribs that will heal sooner rather than later. 

“Do you even remember me?” she asks. 

Blonde hair. 

Dark eyes. 

Strong fingers. 

That voice…

He shakes his head. “You’re not my objective.” 

She stumbles a little. “Tell me you remember something. Anything. Babe, it’s me.” 

He narrows his eyes and reaches forward, grabbing her by the shirt, vibrating the fingers on his other hand. “You’re not my objective.” 

He reaches for her temple, but doesn’t get that far. 

“PEELS!” 

The world goes black.

Artemis drops to the floor and huffs, looking up at her team. “I had him on the ropes, guys.” 

“Dnib!” Zatanna snaps, and glowing rope binds itself around Wally’s form tightly. 

“We know you did,” Dick tells her, helping her to her feet. “Jeez, he really kicked your ass.”

“When he snaps out of this, you’re not allowed to tell him,” Artemis says. 

“If,” Conner says. “We don’t know if he can snap out of it. Or if it’s really him.” 

M’gann kneels down next to Wally’s unconscious form, gazing at him. “I can go into his mind, but…” he glances back at Conner. 

“We don’t have any other options,” he says softly. “We need to know if it’s really him in there, or…” 

“It’s him,” Dick says.

Kaldur gazes at Wally sadly. “We will find out soon enough.” 

***** 

It occurs to M’gann that she’s never been in Wally’s mind. 

But this...feel distinctly not like the Wally she remembers. The walls are white tile, and bare. 

There’s nothing here.

No memories; no feelings...nothing. 

There’s no one here. 

“Wally?” she calls, looking around worriedly. 

There’s a voice. Small, but it echoes. 

“Is...am I...Wally?” 

M’gann takes a breath. “I...we think that you might be.” 

“I have an objective,” the voice tells her quickly. “My masters-” 

“Are manipulating you,” M’gann cuts him off. “They trained you to be a weapon, but I don’t think that’s who you are.” 

She gets no response. 

**** 

“Well?” Artemis asks impatiently as M’gann opens her eyes. 

“He doesn’t know who he is,” M’gann tells them. “There’s no trace of anything that resembles Wally in there...at least on the surface.” 

“So dig deeper,” Dick says. 

“Not alone,” M’gann shakes her head, before looking to Artemis. “If...if this is really Wally...if he’s really in there…” 

Artemis swallows.

“He needs you,” M’gann tells her, reaching out and taking her hand. “Come with me.” 

***** 

“This is...there’s nothing here.” 

M’gann nods as they wander around the white, empty space. 

“Even fractured, Kaldur’s mind had elements of who he is,” Artemis goes on. “There’s just...nothing.” 

M’gann narrows her eyes as she spots a door off in the distance. “Maybe not nothing.” She holds out a hand, and slowly, the door gets closer, until they’re in front of it. 

It’s large, at least five feet taller than they are, and metal, with no doorknob; no way to get in.

“Someone trapped him in here,” M’gann says sadly. “Psimon’s hands are all over this.” 

“How do we get in?” Artemis asks. 

M’gann gazes at the door. “I suppose...we knock.” 

***** 

It turns out the door is open. 

“That was easy,” M’gann comments with a weak grin. 

“Well, he is Wally...supposedly,” Artemis mutters. “Easy was kind of his thing.” 

They step through into what used to be someone’s living room. It’s an odd mix of furniture, misplaced and overturned, singed as if it were caught in a house fire. 

Amongst the overturned couches and half-burnt out chairs are objects. A medical-grade carrying case. A Cheshire mask. The Helmet of Fate. 

“God, look at all this,” Artemis says softly, kneeling down to pick up the Cheshire mask. “His old souvenirs from Mount Justice…the couch from our apartment at Stanford...I think those are his parents’ dining room chairs...”

M’gann looks around, lifting a burnt up photo of  the team from nearly a decade before, and looks around. “Wally?” she calls gently. “Are you here?” 

There’s no answer.

Artemis sighs and lifts another photo, this one of a younger Wally with Barry, making funny faces for the camera. Wally’s face in the photo is nearly burned off. “He must be terrified. What did Psimon do?” 

“I don’t know if this was all him,” M’gann says as she moves further into the room. “Wherever Wally was after he disappeared, it may have damaged his mind.” 

“Do you think you can help him put it all back together? Like you did for Kaldur?” Artemis asks worriedly. 

“I don’t know,” M’gann admits. “And Kaldur’s recovery took time. Wally’s would be equally time intensive. There’s so much damage…” 

Artemis frowns as she finds the yellow Kid Flash cowl in tatters, under the couch. “If he’s not here...where is he?” 

M’gann looks around once more, underneath a staircase that leads to nowhere, and smiles sadly as she spots the form of a small boy hiding there. Dirty red hair and big, nervous green eyes. She kneels down, keeping her movements slow. 

“Hi, Wally.” 

Artemis freezes, watching as the little boy comes out, a perfect match for the old photographs Mary West used to break out at family dinners, complete with a missing front tooth. 

“Who...who are you?” he asks. 

“We’re friends,” M’gann tells him. “There’s nothing to be afraid of now. We’re here to help you.” 

“I...I made a mess,” he says sheepishly. “Mom’s gon’ come home and be real mad.” 

Artemis swallows as she watches him carefully. “I think she’ll let it slide just this once.” 

Wally lights up a little. “Really?” 

M’gann smiles and nods, feeling tears prick her eyes. “Absolutely. And we can clean it all up before she gets home.” 

“I tried but...but it all burnt down,” he says, looking around. “I didn’t mean to burn it down, I just...I ran...I ran too fast and...and then there was a man and he locked me in here…” 

“None of this was your fault,” Artemis says, kneeling next to M’gann, reaching out and brushing soot from his face. “None of it.” 

M’gann takes a deep breath. “Wally? Because you’re so safe now...do you think we could talk to big Wally?” 

He thinks for a moment, and bites his lip. “Big Wally doesn’t wanna play. He says he’s donezo.” 

Artemis laughs just a little, and sniffles at the same time. “Well, can you tell Big Wally that his girlfriend would like a word?” 

Wally shakes his head. “Uh-uh. He doesn’t think you’re you, he thinks you’re the mean man in disguise.” 

“How do we prove that we’re not the mean man?” M’gann asks. 

“You can’t,” Wally tells them sadly. “Y-you should go now.” 

“I’m not going anywhere,” Artemis says. “Not until he - you - he...talks to me.” 

“No,” Wally snaps, stumbling back. “No, he doesn’t want to. I don’t want to. Go away. Go away!” 

***** 

M’gann yelps as she stumbles away from Wally’s prone body, blinking as she comes back to the physical world. Glancing up, she sees Artemis, also back, staring at Wally sadly., 

“What happened?” Dick asks quickly. “Was it him?” 

“Oh, it’s him,” Artemis says softly. “But he was less than cooperative.” 

Dick shakes his head. “What do you mean? What did he do?” 

“He kicked us out,” M’gann says. “But he’s in there.” 

“Let me talk to him,” Dick says. “Let me go in.” 

“I think it’ll take all of us,” M’gann says. “Whatever happened to him, it was too much. He’s hiding, because he doesn’t know how to rebuild what’s been broken.” 

“Then we go in, and we get him,” Conner says. 

M’gann frowns as she turns to Wally, and watches as his eyes open. “Wait…” 

He starts vibrating in the bonds. 

“Zatanna, can you hold him?” Dick asks frantically, backing away a little. 

She lifts her hands, concentrating. “He’s...so strong…” 

“Wally, stop!” Artemis cries, rushing to him to grip his shoulders, but flinching away at the vibration. “You have to listen to me: your name is Wally West, and we are your friends.” 

He vibrates loose, but only gets halfway to the door before M’gann shouts, her eyes glowing green. 

Wally drops, and for M’gann, Dick and Artemis, the world goes white.

***** 

“Where are we?” Dick asks, looking around, 

Artemis frowns as she turns in a circle. All of the wreckage they’d seen before behind the door in Wally’s mind is now out in the open, the white room a battlefield of old furniture, photos and relics of the past. 

“We’re in Wally’s head,” she tells him. “But...but I think we broke it.” 

“It was already broken,” M’gann says sadly. “But before, it was tucked away, compartmentalized and meant to be forgotten about. Now…” 

Dick kneels down and lifts a cracked set of red goggles, gazing at them before looking around. “Is he in here somewhere?” 

“Somewhere,” Artemis nods. “Some version.” 

“Who did this to him?” Dick asks quietly. ‘What...what happened?” 

“It’s a question for later,” M’gann says. “First, we find him.” 

***** 

“You’re name is Wally West, and we are your friends!” 

The voice reverberates and he…

Is that who he is? 

Is he Wally West? 

“You’re not,” a voice tells him, firmly. “You are the nameless. These people are trying to trick you into believing that you’re one of them, but you’re one of us. One with the Light.”

“But they know me,” he argues. “They look at me and they...they know me.” 

“It’s all a trick, dear boy. They know nothing.”

“But-” 

“You have one job,” The voice orders. “Get rid of them. Complete your objective.” 

***** 

“That’s Psimon’s voice,” M’gann says angrily. “I can find a way to shut him out, but we’ll need Wally’s help.” 

“We have to find him,” Artemis nods. “Let’s go.” 

***** 

“That girl,” he says. “The blonde one. The way she looked at me…” 

“Liars are often good at their jobs.” 

“Did I...Did I know her? I see her sometimes.” 

“An old enemy from a former life.”

“That’s not right. That doesn’t sound right.” 

“You’re confused.” 

He swallows and looks around the wreckage; broken chairs and a table missing one of its legs; he turns and looks around and there’s a door, cracked open with a little light coming through. 

“Don’t!” 

He does, swinging it open and stepping through, closing the door. 

The voice doesn’t follow.

When he turns and looks around, it’s…

It’s a house. 

A nice house with a kitchen and dining room and living room, and there’s a large spread of food on the table. Pancakes and waffles, bacon and eggs; fresh squeezed orange juice. 

And people. 

So many people. 

The blonde woman again, stepping forward. Happier-looking. Beaming at him. She cups his face gently.

And it feels…

Right. 

Safe. 

“Hi, Wally West,” she says softly. 

“Is...Am I...Wally West?” 

“Of course you are,” she says. 

“Then...why don’t I...why don’t I remember?” he asks. 

She smiles. 

“Is this...is this a memory?” he asks. 

“We’re all memories,” a raven-haired man tells him. “Your memories.” 

“Open your mind,” a woman with green skin tells him gently. “Let it all in.” 

He takes a deep breath, and closes his eyes. 

***** 

The white space goes black; all of the wreckage disappearing, and Artemis reaches out, grabbing M’gann’s arm.

“What just happened?” 

“I think Wally’s taken control,” she tells them.

“Is that a good thing, or a bad thing?” Dick asks warily. 

M’gann grimaces and looks around the deep blackness. “Wally?” 

“Gimme a minute,” Wally’s voice say softy. “I’m...I’m still a little shaky.”

After a few moments, Wally steps into being; the Wally they remember. He looks exhausted, like he might collapse. 

“Hey,” he says. “Hey, guys. Long...long time no see.” 

Tears threaten Artemis as she watches him. “Oh, my god.” 

He smiles sadly. “Babe.” 

Before anyone can move, Psimon’s voice booms.

“NO! YOU’RE MINE!” 

“Ugh,” Wally rolls his eyes. “M’gann? Little help?”  

She nods, and lifts a hand, her eyes going green, and a moment later, Psimon appears before them. 

“Welcome to the party,” Wally says, grinning viciously, before reeling back and punching him in the face.

Psimon stumbles and snarls. “You’ll pay for this! You’ll all-” 

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever,” Wally says. “I have my memories back now, and I’ve been trained by the League of Shadows. You better sleep with one eye open. I’m probably not gonna let you get away with screwing with me so hard.” 

Psimon glowers, before disappearing. 

Wally takes a breath, and turns to them, giving an exhausted smile. “That was easy.”

With that, his eyes roll back and he collapses, not hearing the shouts of his loved ones as everything goes dark again.

***** 

“What happened?! M’gann? M’gann!” 

She shoots up, gasping for breath and looking around frantically. She spots Wally in a heap by the door, and Artemis and Dick coming to slowly. 

Conner is shaking her shoulders a little, obviously worried. “M’gann.” 

“I’m...I’m okay,” she says. “Tired, but okay. And...and I think we did. I think we got him back.” 

“We should go,” Dick says, doing his best to get to his feet. “Psimon will have reported back to the Light and the Shadows by now, and we can’t be here when they come looking for Wally.” 

Kaldur nods and helps him back. “Zatanna, help Artemis. Superboy-” 

“I’ve got M’gannn and Wally,” Conner nods, and scoops them both up easily. 

M’gann sighs and gives him a hopeful grin, receiving a kiss on the temple for her trouble. 

“Let’s get to the Zeta Tube,” Kaldur orders.

Fluffcember day 3: Blizzard

(This one is kind of longish so, more under the cut)

This is not the way he imagined he would make it back into the Cave, even for mission control. He figured he’d be benched both voluntarily and by general consensus until the twins were at least six months old. However, plans change when emergencies happen, and Dick hopes this doesn't end up being a major one.

“Alpha, do you read? I’ve lost all video signal around the site. You better tell me you’re close already,” Dick says into the comms, eyes scanning the many screens in front of him. Two of the screens have been lost to static, the others are pretty much useless as well, given they’ve probably been buried under snow by now.

“Almost there,” Conner mutters in his ear. He lets out a sigh. “Who would have thought the snowfall would end up turning into a blizzard this bad?  It didn’t seem likely yesterday.”

“Uh, the weather forecasts? Duh.” Artemis replies.

“Conner and I didn’t quite get to catch the news last night or this morning,” Dick says absently, typing as fast as he can to try and hack into other nearby cameras to the place where the two buses had run off the icy highway. Rescue teams had been deployed as soon as the accident went public, but after hours of hard work, they hadn´t been able to safely remove the wounded from inside the buses without causing an avalanche on the right or plunging everyone into the water on the left.  Due to a lot of team members being in missions off-world, Conner and Dick had found no other option but to get to the Cave and help Artemis out however they could.

There’s an awkward silence. Artemis lets out a huff. “I was going to make an adult joke, but I’m guessing you two don't really have time for that sort of things right now.”

“We were up all night decorating the house, if you must know. Decorating and dealing with crying babies at two in the morning,” Dick says.

Artemis lets out a groan. “Look, your kids are adorable and I love babysitting for them, but that just sounds… rougher than what we’re about to do.”

“It can be,” Conner admits, then says, “We’re here.”

“Copy that. I’ll try to get some live signal, and anything I can help with here from the cave, let me know.”

“Will do,” Artemis says. Conner signs off as well. Once there’s silence, Dick turns around. He can't help but smile upon seeing Bart coming back into the main part of the cave, pushing the stroller and talking animatedly to the boys.

“Sorry to make you babysit,” he says, walking over to them. He finds Carter and Colin wide awake, and they each appear to have a fingerless glove either in their lap or between their hands. Dick raises an eyebrow.

Bart grins. “I love kids! And these two are just so freaking adorable. I took them on a detailed tour of the Cave because those big eyes were just begging for it, you know? And I mean! I had to show them their dad’s old room here in the cave. Conner still has a lot of stuff here, by the way.”

Dick crouches down and tugs at the glove Carter is holding. He gets a long stare, a warning almost, but in the end Carter does let go of the glove.

“Thank you, my sweet and oh-so-kind baby,” Dick says, amused. He checks the glove over, brings it up to his nose. It’s clean, at least, though it still holds Conner’s scent quite strongly.

“They pulled these from his room?” he asks, handing Carter his glove back.

Bart nods. “I took them out of the stroller when we were inside, and they kept trying to reach an old pile of folded clothes. They didn’t seem satisfied until I gave them the gloves.”

Dick smiles. He tries to reach for Colin’s glove, but Colin moves his arm back and forth, almost batting Dick away. “The gloves smell like him, that’s probably why they wanted them. They might have been missing his scent already.”

Bart’s eyes widen, and Dick shrugs. “The two of us haven´t really left them alone since they were born. I mean, even when Artemis or Roy and Lian go over to watch them for a little while, we’re always in the house or the yard.”

“They’re that attuned to you both, huh?”

“Well, we do love spending time with our kids. It’s a blessing we get all these opportunities to be together,” Dick says with a nod. One of the screens starts pinging, and Dick gives Bart another smile, this one apologetic. “Could you please watch them just for a bit longer?”

“Of course!”

Dick nods his thanks and trots back to the screens. The comm in his ear crackles to life, and he’s back to business.

Nighttime arrives. Dick really has to go back home with the kids by now. He calls Karen, and Malcom is the one who offers to stay in his place, so Dick heads home. He’s exhausted by the time he gets there, and luckily, the kids also seem to be tired. They fall asleep after being fed, the gloves still in their tiny hands. Dick follows suit in the nursery’s rocking chair.

He wakes up when a quilt is thrown over him. His eyes snap open. He finds Conner arranging the babies’ blankets.

Dick yawns, gets to his feet and wraps the quilt around himself. “Did everyone make it out okay?”

Conner glances at him over his shoulder. Dick leans his head against said shoulder and lets out another yawn. “No one else got injured, and all the wounded made it safely to the nearest hospitals. There was only property damage.”

“That’s great to hear.” Dick yawns for a third time. Conner chuckles, turns around and wraps him in a hug. Their lips meet in a slow and tantalizing kiss.

“Are those some of my old gloves?” Conner murmurs when the kiss is over.

“They still smell like you, and they’ve been holding them since Bart found them in the cave.” Dick presses their foreheads together. “You could say they missed you.”

“I missed you guys too,” Conner says with a smile.

Paladins Patch 1.3 Thoughts

So now that it’s a bit after the fact, I figure I might as well organize my thoughts more about the upcoming patch! Everything is under the cut, and I apologize in advance to mobile users. The patch notes for 1.3 are already up if you’re interested.

The Emote Wheel, and Gold Sinks

Okay so first off, just the addition of being able to equip multiple emotes and sprays on its own is such a good addition! But also as one of those folks currently sitting on a mountain of gold right now, we REALLY needed this sort of gold sink:

From the looks of it to upgrade to each additional slot for both sprays and emotes, the amount of gold will be:

Slot 2: 50,000g

Slot 3: 100,000g

Slot 4: 150,000g

Which works really well for me. Fernando has so many good emotes, I can’t be expected to pick just one! Speaking of Fernando though -

...Okay back on topic. I’m not sure if you have to unlock these additional slots for each champion on their own, or if its a universal unlock yet - only PTS will tell. I honestly have enough gold that I’d probably be set either way though...we really needed a gold sink that doesn’t revolve around buying champion levels. I only buy champion levels if I want to unlock their talents, but nothing beyond that. No sir, I like to EARN my gold skins!

The other gold purchasable addition to the game is additional language announcer packs - 25,000g each. I think we’re definitely going to see someone playing champions of a specific nationality along with their respective announcer pack in youtube videos. So, Fernando with the spanish announcer pack for example. It just seems like an inevitable thing that’s gonna happen, haha

New Map, New Queues

So first off, the separation of TDM and Onslaught and the reintroduction of multiqueue are GREAT and I’m happy to see this happen. It looks like Snowfall Junction will also be added to the TDM queue, so that will be interesting to see how it works out. More importantly, the Rise of Furia event map isn’t going entirely to waste; I really love the look of the modded version outfitted for a classic TDM match, and the creation of points of interest with the spawned pickup that gives you a full ult charge sounds neat on its own as well. A sort of objective in an objectiveless game mode if you will.

The fact that the old Throne Area at the top of the Spire during the event will still be accessed from the custom match lobbies is just the icing on top.

I honestly would love to see more of an emphasis on new map additions over new champion additions in the future. We really are in sore need of new maps. Hell, I’d love to see the reintroduction of the test map queue just on its own.

Balance and In Game Adjustments

Fusillade Nerf: Both necessary AND welcome!

Cherish Nerf: I’m gonna miss that extra burst, but I can also see why this was necessary.

BUCC: It’s a bit of a mixed bag here, isn’t here? Self Sustain nerfed, but buffs to his ensnare as well. Then you have the reload changes; kinda makes me wonder if he’s one of those champs that’s going to receive yet another rekit later in the future because these tunes he always receives tend to be all over the place.

Bug Fixes:

Grumpy Bomb no longer deals 3x damage to Shields: AS A FERNANDO MAIN, THANK YOU

Overall audio fixes: these were a long time coming, I especially noticed the Mal’Damba one brought up.

Fixed an issue where Furia’s Wrings of Wrath Projectiles were sometimes tracking and moving through walls: Thank u lord.

Seems like a lot of map collision bug fixes went through too

Misc:

You know that thing where you’re making a Loadout, the queue pops, then you get sad because you can’t finish the loadout before the match? Now you can – until all the other players have accepted!

This is a quality of life change that I sorely needed considering how many times this has happened to me, lol.

Skins + Battle Pass

So the Battle Pass looks to have more concrete stuff this time around though they did up the buy in price - from 500 to 600 crystals. So, some skin reviews.

Crimson Serpent Mount

I actually kinda dig this mount; its nice to have another non-horse addition, and the fire trail effects are also neat.

Makoa – Akuma Skin

While the fact that there are elements that remind of Bowser is pretty fun to me, this is overall not a skin that suits my personal tastes. It feels too overdesigned, too cluttered, too clunky, too many unnecessary spikes everywhere. I guess I’m just not...too into edgy aesthetic skins though overall so I’m biased here.

Cassie – Dragoncaller Skin

When the visuals for her first dropped with the splash art for the new mount, I deadass thought this was going to be a Lian skin because of the hair and the royal vibe, but no it’s...Cassie. Honestly this feels more like Cassie cosplaying Lian more than anything, right down to the voice pack. Seriously the voice pack has HUGE Lian vibes to it, its the high born haughtiness. I guess if you’re into that, this is your skin. I do admit though, Dragon Ziggs is pretty cute, and the crossbow is alright.

Mal’Damba – Shadow Lord Skin

CONGRATULATIONS TO HI REZ FOR BEING COMPLETELY INCAPABLE SO FAR OF PUTTING OUT MAL DAMBA SKINS THAT I DON’T LIKE. This skin goes so against what kind of aesthetics I usually go for, it’s very “edge” but my snake boy pulls it off and I love him. The only downside is that the voice pack is very generic and is definitely outclassed by all of Mal’Damba’s other voice packs by far. It’s situations like this that really make me wish they added voice pack customization back so that I could equip his halloween voice pack with this skin.

Oh also who gave snek a knife?

If I get this battle pass it will be purely for the Fernando emote and this Mal’Damba skin, and I suppose the mount as well.

New Champion: Koga

Okay so visually? I don’t find Koga appealing at all. The colors just clash so much, especially that orange, and once again this is a character with Too Much Stuff and Clutter. Visually a lot with Koga gets lost to me; again, it’s just...too much. Sometimes, less...is more. As to his recolors, I do like the concept they’re continuing with in terms of recolors having slight tweaks to the model; in this instance, its the recolored version not including Koga’s mask:

It would be neat if we had multiple gold purchasable recolors for champions like we used to outside of masteries, but that ain’t happening anytime soon. That’s visuals though; kit wise, I do dig what he brings.

I think the concept of working off a resource meter for all abilities instead of using cooldowns is interesting, and his mobility looks super fun. While I am dissapointed that his claws serve no melee functionality outside of his ultimate, I do like the way their attacks tie in similarity with Zhins flame sword attacks. I was hoping for another weapon switch champion along the lines of Strix, but the way the claws function as a weapon switch is much more of a set time focused thing, since using your claws eats up resource meter. He has a talent right off the bat that restores energy when he uses his submachine gun, and if I had to guess that’s probably one of his talents that’s going to get a future nerf. Again, that’s just if I had to guess.

Seeing Koga’s passive wall climb ability and his dash is a bit dissapointing in some ways though, since much of his mobility is things people have suggested in the past for Skye in terms of a rekit. Before Koga, it was Skye that was our resident Ninja Themed champion. The woman wears kunais, uses stealth and smoke bombs, she’s clearly meant to evoke a stealthy ninja assassin in terms of how she operates. While we already know Skye will receive a visual reworking first before we see any rekit, its still going to be a hard pill to swallow for most Skye mains out there. Speaking of Skye, we did see her visual revamp teased during the Koga trailer:

I am NOT a fan of this wristbow redesign. If Koga is meant to evoke a more aggro ninja archtype, than Skye is meant to evoke a more stealthy one; besides that, Skye has always struck me as the more sleek and elegant type. This giant cumbersome crossbow she’s wielding here just DOES NOT fit the bill. Well, at least we know for sure that she’s still going to be purble (the lighting in these screenshots is affected by a firey background so its a bit misleading color wise).

I can also definitely see Maeve mains being salty though; while Street Justice has been the talk of the town, that talent really has been the ONLY thing going for her, as her base kit and mobility has been nerfed multiple times. When you look at Maeve’s large cooldowns and compare them to Koga’s resource meter, its quite the disparity. What I’m trying to say is, Maeve and Skye mains should stand in solidarity against this injustice and maybe commiserate in a bar over drinks later I guess.

I feel pretty positive about the new additions overall though, and I’m kind of looking forward to this patch which is nice for a change. Let me know your thoughts too!

So I don’t have much to say about last night’s episode. It didn’t really speak to me in any way. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t terrible either. I did come out if it with 2 main questions / concerns. The second one is really more linked to the episode stills that came out yesterday for 6x03 so if you are spoiler free don’t read any further. I’m going to tag some people at the end of this post and I think you all are up on spoilers but if you aren’t sorry I tagged you. I put the spoilers in the third paragraph.

So my first thought is Oliver asking John to be the Green Arrow. First off, am I the only one who thought that Oliver was actually going to ask John to be the guardian for William if anything happened to him? I honestly thought that is where he was going with his I’m working on something. I mean John has a kid as well so I don’t quite get why putting him even more into the forefront of team Arrow isn’t actually putting that father at a heightened risk of death? I mean I get that Dig is married so if something happened to him, JJ would still have Lyla. But that just rubbed me the wrong way. Plus why did John even agree to it? He was there to tell Oliver about his nerve damage and that he needed to take a step back because he’s compromised and putting everyone at risk in the field. John is a soldier, I don’t get why he was still in the field in the first place and especially now that 2 different team members have been in serious peril because of his injury. I know I’m applying logic to the story and the writers consistently ignore logic to create drama for drama’s sake. But I’m not terribly happy with this story line and it’s obvious this secret is what is going to drive a wedge between Oliver and John this season.

Second concern deals with Oliver and Felicity. This touches on episode stills so if you are spoiler free don’t read any further. So Felicity and Oliver barely interacted in last nights episode. At least nothing of a personal nature. It was all pretty much Green Arrow and Overwatch, not Oliver and Felicity. I’ve seen a lot of people on twitter and tumblr assuming or having their own personal head cannons that Oliver talked over his decision to step down from being the Green Arrow with Felicity, but there was NOTHING in this episode to lead me to think or believe that at all. So my concern, I guess you could call it, is based on the pics of them kissing and the key spoiler for the next episode. So basically there were little hints last week that they are working back toward each other but had paused the reconciliation because Oliver was suddenly a single parent. So ok, I kind of get that. But in next week’s episode Oliver is all of sudden either asking Felicity to move in with him or at least giving her the option of being with him and his son as often as she’d like. Isn’t that 0-60 in no time at all? Maybe it’s just me and my own personal wants but I wish they had started off the season obviously back together and low key dating to let William get accustomed to Felicity. I mean is Oliver really giving Felicity a key to his new apartment and we haven’t seen one interaction between Felicity and William? Have they even met? I’m just so confused.

All in all these first 2 episodes have been mediocre. I’m not crazy about the kid story line. Both episodes felt more like filler and 2 episodes of introductions and story line set up. Speaking of, I’m glad it looks like Felicity is finally going to get to start her own company, but I’m mildly irked that once again her professional life has to be tied in with a dudes. Can’t she have anything of her own? I mean the EA job was because Oliver moved her without really asking her. The VP at Palmer Tech was because Ray bugged her until she gave in and then she was CEO because Ray basically left her the company. So I was really hoping whatever company she would start would be hers and hers alone, but it’s looking like it’s a joint effort with Curtis.

Last little thought, that is highly unlikely to be the case, but I’m still low key hoping that Felicity and Oliver are already married. I don’t care if it’s they have actually been married since the fake-out wedding. Or if it’s they got quick married in secret after Lian Yu. I sincerely doubt either is the case but I can hold on to that dream until proven otherwise in the show.

Any way I’d love any ones thoughts or opinions on my 2 big concerns coming out of the first 2 episodes of this season. I’m still hopeful that this season will be a far improvement over last season and I’m cautiously looking forward to the next 2 eps.

Arrow 5x23 “Lian Yu” After Thoughts

Main thought

Not only someone ( @almondblossomme was it you?) had called it already but all the hint’s about an explosion and a big cliffhanger pointed in this general direction.

Lian Yu was blown up and like I posted last night we are yet again involved in a Schrodinger’s cat kind of experience.

To does that don’t know the  Schrodinger’s cat theory. It’s basic physics, if you take a cat and close it inside a box with “a Geiger counter, there is a tiny bit of radioactive substance, so small, that perhaps in the course of the hour one of the atoms decays, but also, with equal probability, perhaps none; if it happens, the counter tube discharges and through a relay releases a hammer that shatters a small flask of hydrocyanic acid” (taken from Wikipedia). We are unable to see the cat, hence the cat is neither alive nor dead (to our knowledge) until we open the box. 

That’s pretty much what Season 5 Arrow left us with. We know Oliver and William are alive; we know Chase is dead; as for the rest (all of them) only when we open the “box” aka Season 6 will we know if they are dead or alive.

I’m use to cliffhangers, we all are. As I said before, a cliffhanger with Oliver survival was mute so it had to be someone else.They decided it should be everyone else... I’m okay with it... 

As for the episode I’ll be honest things came in so fast I felt I didn’t even have time to process and lose my head over them before the next one came on. I truly was the person trying to catch up and forever getting there just late enough to be blown away by the next big shock.

Let’s dig in.

Team Oliver (He didn’t had the mask on so Oliver)

Working with opponents takes finding common ground. Oliver and Slade found common ground in their son’s. They are both father’s; they both want their son’s safe and with them; that’s common ground, one both Slade and Oliver can live with.

Nyssa and Malcolm made me laugh. I loved their bickering.

No one was surprised by the plane being blown up. Note to writers: In a fic I hid the plane over on the Amazo, Oliver should have been a bit more clever. 

The Team splitting up made sense. The trap was too predictable. Harkness betrayal, not so much, I always thought Slade would betray Oliver. I guess it took me a while to think about how there was  no point in bringing Harkness to the foil, except for him to be the traitor. Harkness has no personal connection to Oliver, all the other Team Oliver members do. I get the writers, they do not wanted Slade to betray Oliver but someone had to, hence Harkness.

Everyone is shocked to see Slade, especially Thea. She already has to endure Malcolm Merlyn being there; Slade killed her mother, right in front of her and Oliver. Thea doesn’t have the connection Oliver has with Slade, a connection that is hard for Oliver to explain to her.

But Oliver needs Felicity (for his sake) and Samantha (for William’s sake) safe he’s counting on Thea to pull through in managing just that, getting herself to safety in the process... I see you Oliver Queen, I see you

Lian Yu is a constant surprise. Turns out it has a LoA type of monastery on it

Okay let’s just go with that as this is the perfect setting for Talia vs Nyssa.

Loved their fight. We got to understand a bit more on the sister’s relationship. Talia left, leaving Nyssa to deal alone with their abusive father. She feels betrayed by Talia; Talia feels like she did what she had to do.

Talia accusing her sister of allying herself with their father’s murderer would have been the perfect moment for Nyssa to answer something along the lines “the man our father chose to impose as my husband” but Nyssa doesn’t even mention it; it’s like it never happened. Marc told us that the “marriage” thing would be dealt with I don’t think this was it... I fear for Nyssa survival at this point.

Nyssa beat Talia though and that was huge. Granted Talia’s minions would have given Talia some advantage back, so I was very glad Slade showed up.

Talking about Slade. People that followed my live watching know the all betrayal thing felt off to me. And it was. I really liked Slade.

In my “What we know What we expect” I expressed the wish that Oliver would have been the one taking the gadget Curtis made for Dinah . The gadget protects her from any soundwave blocker and it was left lying on the ground when Curtis was taken

Turns out it was Oliver that took it and the only way he can get it to her is by being caught. Hence Slade “betrayal”. Deemed as a friend by BS Slade also has more freedom of movements but he can’t find William.

The battle we all have been waiting for starts. Chase vs Oliver or Team Chase vs part of Team Oliver.

I’m very glad they did the Flashback fight with Kovar parallel with the fight with Chase.

We get the opportunity to really watch how Oliver evolved in these 5 years. He’s so very different. He finds other ways

He has been struggling to find other ways since the beginning of Season 2 but it’s now, end of Season 5, that that evolution becomes final. After 2x01 Oliver later on returned to the old habits; that’s not going to happen anymore. Season 5 finishes that cycle.

Chase tries every trick, he uses William, to force Oliver to kill, but Oliver finds another way, every time. Chase meets the end by his own hand; mimicking what Robert Queen did

Chase is a psychopat by killing himself he destroys Oliver’s world completly...

All of Oliver’s friends and family, except William, are, as far as Oliver knows, dead.

Oliver trusts his Team, he trusts them to save themselves, but believing that they survived must be close to impossible as the all Island is blown up and Oliver knows it was impossible for the Team to have gotten to the ARGUS plane in such a short time.

Oliver is crushed. He holds on to William as they face a future they have to tackle together without anyone else.

We know that really isn’t going to happen, we know some people will survive, both friends and foes (Yes Chase’s Team was also in the Island) but that’s us, the viewers, not Oliver the character.

He fought 5 years to let go of the Island, he fought 5 years to get all his humanity back and now he’s alone in his humanity, all his world gone.

That kiss, that promised talked will haunt Oliver until Felicity is found.

And she will, for the more doubtful, she will because there’s no way Oliver would get back from losing her. Chase knew that; he kills himself because that’s his last move on the game, Oliver won’t survive as the Oliver we know now without Felicity. Without her he will lose it, without her he will go either on a killing rampage or a suicidal path, so killing her is Chase last move; he kills himself in order to win. The only way the show can ensure that Chase doesn’t win is by keeping Felicity alive.

And Olicity will have that talk. A talk that the simple nod of Felicity agreeing to having it made Oliver smile

Malcolm Merlyn

He may be dead or alive but one thing's sure Malcolm sacrificed his well being for Thea.

It was a surprising thing to watch happen as usually Malcolm sees to himself first, not this time, this time Thea took precedence.

And Thea fells, at last, that she does have a father in Malcolm. In the end he came through.

Quentin Lance

My heart feels for Lance but I’m so very happy he understood that that woman isn’t his daughter.

Quentin was key, first by validating Black Canary Dinah

And that blow felt like a release; it was heart felt, you just have to look at Lance’s face.

Slade Wilson

I loved Slade Wilson. Turns out he’s still the foe that knows Oliver the best.

He’s on point about Oliver letting go of his guilt about his father’s death. He’s on point that this is a difficult thing to do but Oliver needs to do it.

Slade knows how it is, he speaks from experience. He knows perfectly well what damage he did to Oliver by killing Moira which in turn makes him appreciate even more the fact that Oliver comes to him for help.

Maybe Slade will betray Oliver (if Slade survives) maybe he won’t but one thing I am sure of, Oliver will find Slade’s son; he will reunite him with his father, even if Slade is dead I think Oliver will do it.

Stray thoughts

- It’s going to be a hard Summer but I feel like the cliffhanger was a bit overkill to us viewers. For Oliver, the character, he’s in Hell at the moment; for us we know many in that Island survived. They have to or the show would have to start all over again. Not impossible but as the news from Season 6 gets public we already know John Diggle (David Ramsey), computer-science expert Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), his vigilante-trained sister Thea Queen (Willa Holland), Deputy Mayor Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), brilliant inventor Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum), and his new recruits, street-savvy Rene Ramirez (Rick Gonzalez) and meta-human Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy) and BS survived.

- The episode (that I have to rewatch) was so fast paced it was hard to keep track of everything happening without my head spinning and I loved it

- Moira scene was sweet but it was kind of lost in all the madness.

- If I’m seeing correctly (and I confess I may be partial on this) after what I saw yesterday BS has no redemption possible. The only heart that she could get to was Quentin’s and it was clear he’s not having any of it.

- Flashbacks powered up current timeline to perfection. That view of what it seems to be Kovar’s body was on point.

- Oliver finally get’s to hold his son without hiding he’s his father.

- I’m curious to see what they are going for in Season 6. We already have a few information flowing in here . It doesn’t say much but what it does tells us Oliver will go back to Star City and be Mayor, and the Team will still be the Team we know. Over the hiatus the cliffhanger will be solved or at least handled in order to be solved in 6x01.

- I love this show. I love the GA / Oliver Queen the show produced. It’s a man I can respect; not a playboy jackass like he was 10 years ago but a Man set on doing the best he can and live with honor after the Hell he lived for 5 years forced him to be a monster. He doesn’t let his past define him, not anymore, and I’m very excited to watch him live this new life, a life he fully deserves. 

- Haters accuse everyone of us that Olicity ruined GA; they love the GA from Comics I respect that, but I love this version of adult, respectful, grown up, deserving Oliver Queen better; was it Olicity that make it so? It helped, I have no doubt it help but only because Oliver Queen himself didn’t want to get back being what he was before, he wanted to be better, and he is. I’m so very very happy to have witness this journey.

And that’s it for Season 5. I won’t say it wasn’t rocky it was... there are characters I wish never existed, there are episode that will always, ALWAYS, make me vomit a little but in the end it all came together nicely.
