you love her.
it’s something you’ve always known, really. you’ve loved her since you were kids, sitting on her roof and looking at the stars. you loved her and she loved the stars. they flickered in her eyes every time she would point them out—cassiopeia, orion, pegasus, leo, among many others. she spoke of them like they’re old friends, sharing their stories with you, but most of the time you would get too lost in the sound of her voice to pay attention. you would wish she’d speak your name in that tone.
it’s on a clear night, both of you still in your school uniforms, when she tells you about binary stars. “they’re caught in each others’ gravity,” she explains, grinning, golden eyes as bright as the fiery red of her hair, and you remember thinking it feels familiar. you remember relating. you’ve let yourself get pulled along by her orbit for years now—so much so you think that maybe, without her gravity, you might just fall apart. thne she tells you about albireo; a binary star. points it out to you amongst all the other little lights that hang from the heavens. the glint of albireo’s component stars overlap with each other just like how her fingertips brush yours, and the heat expansion of the universe pulses forward with each beat of your heart. your world gets bigger for every second you spend by her side.
but you learn she’s more like a comet than a star. upon the scale of a human eye, a star is stationary. unmoving. permanent. and she is anything but. there’s a restlessness in her, a longing, but it’s different from yours. the gravity she moves along is not from another—not from you—but from the stars beyond even what is known. she wants to dance from system to system, to know the warmth of a star as she passes by but never to stay. and so you find that part of you isn’t surprised when she says she’s leaving, to venture forth onto the starry rail and the path of a god long gone. “i’ll miss you,” she says, her golden eyes warm with sincerity as she takes her hands in yours, and you want to tell her you will too, but the words lodge in your throat stubbornly. you can only manage them after she’s gone, nothing but a shining light in the sky, but the words burn up in the stratosphere before they reach her.

a year after she departs, a discovery is made. albireo is a false binary—its component stars are light years apart, made to seem close by the illusion of spacetime. you don’t know if you want to laugh or cry at the irony. a binary star that never was, and a love that never was. close enough to taste, far enough to miss. you want to ask her for your heart back, but you don’t even know where you’d put it. she’s had it for so long, even if she doesn’t know. it’s always been hers. so you swallow down the ache in your throat like a burning star, and pick up the phone with a smile when she calls.

My Fanfiction Recs: Korrasami
In 2020, I watched The Legend of Korra. (Fun fact: it helped me realize and accept that I was bi! So the show has a special place in my heart.) Crazy enough, I started reading Korrasami fanfiction the same year. For the next three years I devoured the fanfiction, and so the following list is an accumulation of my favorites. I think I've read enough to say these are some of the best. Though I haven't been into the fandom lately, I didn't want this old list to go to waste in case anyone was hunting for some good Korrasami reads.
Actually, I discovered some of my favorite stories through Tumblr blogs and am immensely grateful for those posters for sharing their lists. This is my way of paying it forward. Hope someone can enjoy these like I did.
I divvied these up in a way that only made sense to past me. Linked the Ao3 in titles. (You might have to be logged in to see some of these.) I tried to add some commentary for each. Also, I highlighted the ones in blue I really recommend you to read, though I do think everything here is worth a read! Without further ado, here is my compiled list of (Korrasami):

The Everthere by guileheroine My favorite one of them all. I would argue this is one of the best fanfics, if you like a cozy and character-driven read. You really get into Korra and Asami's heads and moods. Slow burn but so, so worth it. I've read this one three times.
Nightmares and Daydreams by Dispari It's been a while since I read this one, but I had a note saying this is "maybe my 2nd fave". Similar tone to The Everthere.
it’s such a gorgeous sight to see you in the middle of the night by badkids This is on almost every recommendation list I've seen. For a reason. College AU. Some angst but a whole lot of fluff and some humor and of course, dorkiness. Another cozy read. The title is from that The Cure song and is also one of my favorite lyrics ever.
like broken thunder by neurolingual Camp counselor AU. All of this writer's works are amazing. They truly have a gift for writing beautiful prose. This time, it's Asami pining for Korra, a different perspective from most fanfics.
I don't remember these as well, but I do remember them being very good and well worth a read. (I know I reread some of these.) And I haven't seen some of these on other lists, so I guess there are some hidden gems in the mix. Some shorter parenthetical notes here.
this winter, you're here by camphollstein (Modern AU. Asami POV. I think Asami was the one pining here. I also liked the family feels.)

unique story
The Honeymooners by hellorhogwartsfics Honestly, should fall under the above category too, but the story really stood out. It was a wild ride! Modern AU. Asami is a jilted bride and her best friend Korra is there for her to take the place of her husband for the honeymoon. I'm a big fan of this author's humor too.
Brittle Wires by golari This was such a unique AU and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Maybe my 3rd fave. The way they wrote Korra and Asami here was so unique. Their interactions are subtle but meaningful. I'm also a fan of nerdy Korra and a secretly pining Asami. It shows the work as unfinished, but it's complete since the author was just thinking of adding an Asami POV chapter.
and you lift me up in a wave of love by overnights (Surfer AU, this one gave me a warm feeling I recall. Read it if you like the beach and sand. And rock.)
Maybe by selftaughthuman (Beautiful one-shot, feels, set in Boston)
Permeate by contronym (Mechanic AU, 2nd person POV, lil cliché but beautiful prose makes up for it)

An odd category, I know. But some of these really made me laugh out loud, all snorting and uglylike. Enjoy.
All These Lines Are Blurring by hellorhogwartsfics Vegas AU baby! I laughed so hard I cried at times. Opal is amazing here. I've read all of this author's Korrasami works.
Quick Bright Things by LadyRavenEye Oh, this one was absolutely wonderful. Do not skip the footnotes, that's where the humor is! Fake marriage AU. Both are oblivious.

(fun fact for those who don't know, which is probably most people, I am an avid broadway nerd and I listened to Wicked like...ad nauseam in my middle school/high school days so the minute I saw the title I had this song immediately in my head, which was very fun. As soon as I ran a few of the lyrics in my head I knew exactly what I had to write)

Gale x Blackstaff Librarian
After their initial encounter on the librarian's first day at Blackstaff Academy, Gale and the librarian now have fairly low opinions of one another. They both decide to vent to their parents about the other person (as one does when they hate someone).

“Gale, darling, so good of you to join us for tea! Let me have a look at you. We haven’t seen you in a tenday, you know.”
Gale smiled and bent to exchange a strong, rib-cracking hug with his mother, the inimitable Morena Dekarios. He kissed her cheek as a greeting before letting her take his face in her hands so she could scrutinize him.
“Forgive me, Mother, the academy has required much of my attention the last several days,” Gale said, as Morena pursed her lips as she studied him.
“Have they been working you too hard? You look peaky.”
“I’ve been telling him that for days, Mrs. Dekarios,” Tara said, padding into the room. “He simply refuses to take care of himself.”
“Tara,” he chided, giving her a look. He took his mother’s hands and pulled them away from his face, squeezing them briefly. “I feel fine, I assure you.”
“Hmm.” She clearly didn’t believe him, but she let it go for now. “Well if you insist. Come, come have a seat, I’ll have tea ready in a moment. I want to hear all about how things are going over at the Academy.”
Gale blew out a long breath as he followed his mother onto her balcony and took a seat at the table there. “Where to start? We have a new librarian, for one.”
“Oh? Not another tired old Candlekeep retiree is it?” 
“No. No, she’s…young. Nearer my age.” Gale tried to picture her in his mind’s eye, to try and guess her age, and then quickly decided against it. The less he thought about the librarian, the better. 
“Oh?” Morena‘s eyes brightened with interest at that little fact. “Hold that thought, darling, I want to hear everything.”
She disappeared back inside to fetch the tea things while Tara hopped up onto the cushions that were stacked in her seat. That place at the table had been her teatime spot practically since the day Gale first summoned her. Though the cushions and chairs had been replaced over time, they were always placed in the exact same spot, with the cushions stacked at just the right height for her to comfortably look over the table’s edge and indulge in a spot of tea. 
Gale leaned closer to her and lowered his voice. “You haven’t said a word to my mother about our new librarian, have you?”
“I don’t know what you mean, Mr. Dekarios,” Tara said, licking at her paws to clean them for teatime. “Why would I talk about librarians of all things to your mother?”
The answer didn’t exactly allay any of Gale’s suspicions, but he let it go as Morena returned with the tea tray all prepped, including a plate of Gale’s favorite sandwiches and a shallow bowl for Tara's tea. She poured them each a cup and insisted Gale eat something before finally settling in her chair and taking a sip of her own tea. 
“So,” she said, cradling her cup in her hands and leaning forward slightly, her eyes sparkling with interest. “Tell me all about this new librarian.”
“Well, for starters, she’s only been with us for a tenday and she’s already caused quite a…stir.” He frowned, recalling how she frog-marched him out of the library in front of a crowd of students and colleagues. “On her first day at the Academy she refused to let anyone into the library while she was ‘cataloguing’ and kicked out anyone who dared to enter. Ever since then things have only gotten worse.” 
“How so?”
“Well, she—she’s come up with this ridiculous new organization system for the books and it’s taken her days to rearrange everything. Now no one knows where to find anything and we’re all forced to ask her for assistance, which she seems to find exceedingly annoying.” 
Though perhaps it was only when he asked that she got annoyed. He ignored that thought for now.
“Her new system doesn’t make the slightest flicker of sense,” he complained. He should have left off two or three sentences ago, but he was getting worked up now, all warm under his collar. “It’s been a disaster. I’ve taken to hoarding books I need in my study just to keep track of them. Honestly, I don’t know what the Blackstaff was thinking, giving her the job—she has completely upended the entire academy with her little project to reorganize the library. She has delayed everyone’s studies in the process and she is maddeningly unhelpful if you ever try to talk to her. Most unprofessional, in my opinion. In fact, I think she is without a doubt the most infuriating woman I think I have ever met.”
“Oh dear, that does sound like a torment,” Morena said, though the way she smiled behind her next sip of tea suggested she was more amused than sympathetic. “How much are you forced to interact with her?”
“If I had my way it would be never,” Gale huffed. “But unfortunately the reorganization of the library has taken over her main office as well. Blackstaff Vajra has temporarily given her the empty study adjoining mine, so it is impossible to escape her entirely, now that we share a common room.”
“Roommates, is it?” Morena teased, smiling broadly. “I can’t recall the last time you were forced to share a room with anyone.”
“At Blackstaff? It must have been ages ago.”
He had shared camps and tavern rooms with his companions, back when he’d had an illithid tadpole in his brain and the entire world needed saving from a Netherbrain. But this was different.
After Gale returned to Blackstaff, he’d been given one of two empty studies clustered around a common room for use as his teaching office. But now Gale’s days of having both study and common room entirely to himself were over. Now, whenever he tried to enjoy a relaxing cup of tea or reinvigorate himself with a cup of coffee and a good book, she was there, passing through with arms full of books, her curls falling out of whatever hairstyle she had attempted to wrangle them into. Each and every time, she took one look at him behind her wire-framed glasses, glared, stuck her pert little nose up in the air, and stalked away. Before he could even so much as say hello or good evening.
Not that he wanted to, of course.
Any interest he had in her, any intrigue he might have felt, was quickly dissolving into pure and utter loathing. She was surly, rude, and waspish, she had no patience for simple conversation, and no care for the sheer amount of disruption she was causing across the entire Academy. Every time she saw him with a book in his hands, she glared. Every time they passed in the hallway, she glared. Every time he stepped into her chaotically catalogued library, she glared!
When he was fairly certain he hadn’t done anything reprehensible to her! She seemed to hate him simply for existing.
Her name was on everyone’s lips these days, to the point where he felt he couldn’t escape it. If she wasn’t there in front of him taunting him with her hazel-eyed glares, he was forced to hear of her while eating in the dining hall, trying to teach his classes, monitoring students during study hall, and even relaxing with his colleagues at the Yawning Portal. There was no escape from the Blackstaff Librarian. Not even in his own teaching study.
“And of course I’m expected to put up with it as the newest professor at the academy,” Gale finished, throwing up his hands, having related all of this to his mother as well. “Ridiculous.”
“Yes, dear, and it’s so good of you to martyr yourself by sharing rooms with her," Morena said, hiding another smile behind a sip of tea.
“What is that supposed to mean? And why are you smiling like that?” he asked, growing frustrated with her now too. The whole time he had complained, she continued to smile and chuckle and sit with her cheek leaning against her hand, a fond and amused look in her eyes.
“Oh, no reason.” Morena finished off her tea before lowering her cup back onto its saucer, that same smile still on her lips. She exchanged a subtle look with Tara, who gave a little amused squint of her eyes and then delicately pretended to be busy washing her face.
"You can't fool me so easily, Mother," he said. “What are you thinking?”
“Nothing much, darling. I am only thinking that I should like to invite her over for tea.” She leaned back in her chair, her hands folded comfortably over her middle, and let her gaze trail off in the vague direction of Blackstaff Academy. "She sounds like a young woman I should get to know."

In her sparse new temporary office, a certain Blackstaff librarian crumpled up the letter she had been trying to write and tossed it to the side, letting the balled-up parchment join about a dozen other crumpled-up letters on the floor. She huffed to herself and pulled out a fresh piece of parchment to write on, dipping her quill back into the ink.
Dearest Papa, she began. She continued with inane lines about her health, the weather, and how much she appreciated Blackstaff Vajra for offering her the position as Chief Librarian of Blackstaff Academy, as she had done in every other letter she started. She was determined this time not to ruin it by mentioning a certain annoying professor with whom she had had too many interactions already.
But inevitably, as it had happened in the other dozen letters before this one, he elbowed his way into her writing, just the same way he had elbowed his way into her library.
Regrettably, she wrote, nowhere is perfect and I’ve found that quite a few of my colleagues here at the Academy can be more than a little trying on my nerves. There is one man in particular, a professor with whom I must now share a common room, who is absolutely, without a doubt, the most provoking, vexatious, exasperating man I think I’ve ever had the displeasure to speak with. He is careless and arrogant and swans about the place as though he and not dear Vajra were the Blackstaff! I cannot understand how he of all people has been accepted to teach here, beyond that everyone must be fawning over his renewed status as a Chosen of Mystra and hero of that nasty illithid business down south. As though we do not have enough Chosens and heroes! He is constantly in my way, hoards books like a dragon, and seems to intentionally put himself where I must see or speak with him even when I expressly wish to avoid him. If I have to spend one more day sharing a common room with this most infuriating man I may just go mad. Do you know, just the other day I caught him sprawled out along the sofa of the common room like a Calishite pasha, filthy boots on the table—
But here she stopped, glaring down at the page. She was being untruthful, if not unkind. She had not yet caught him in a state of such blatant disarray—yet. She stared at her letter, her mind taking her back to two days ago when she had come into the common room, hoping for some peace and quiet, only to find him there.
He’d been stretched along the sofa, that was true, but with his ankles hanging off the edge and crossed, the soles of his boots mercifully away from both sofa and table (though dangerously close). He’d been reading when she entered, one hand cradling the book on his chest and the other combing absently through his dark hair, his lips pursed faintly as he studied the text. The setting sun had been streaming in through the windows, giving his lightly tanned skin an all-over bronzed look, and when he’d looked up as she entered the light caught his dark eyes in such a way as to dust the deep, rich brown of his irises with a sprinkling of bright copper. 
He was handsome, she’d give him that, but it only made her dislike him more. Handsome men always had a sense of arrogance and pride about them and his reputation had more than preceded him in that regard. Of course, it didn’t help that when he looked up, he’d instantly sat up all surprised—and then he had the audacity to look disappointed.
Disappointed!
Oh, she hated him. Absolutely, utterly, completely loathed him. 
Him, with his stupid little Mystra earring, and his fussy way of styling his long hair, and the way he pursed his lips when he was deep in thought, and the careless way he held books sometimes, his fingers tucked between pages—
Gods, she was thinking about his hands now?
She sat back in her chair, glaring at her letter, her face flushed and her lips pressed in a thin line. And then, after a moment, she crumpled the letter up, the same as the others. She gathered all the failed letters into a metal wastebin and, with a snap of her fingers, promptly set them all alight. The soft crackling of the flames did little to cool her off, however. 
She’d just have to write her father a letter another day, when her mind wasn’t so wrapped up in all the things she hated about one Professor Gale Dekarios. For now, perhaps it was best to simply give up and go home.
And perhaps take a cold bath to cool her flustered nerves.

so after my slight reaperken/touka rambling yesterday i figured that i really have nothing to lose from posting this small snippet of a fic (oneshot??) thats been sitting in my google drafts for nearly the past two years; if this is crappy i can always just delete it but ive wanted to contribute a bit more to keep tokyo ghoul tumblr alive so i figure why not?
i felt so smart when i came up with the title since ken was a dove during that entire reaper arc until the events of cochlea. i didnt really pay attention to prince's lyrics in the song but looking back at it now i guess some apply? not really any inspiration was gained from it though, i just grew up with music from the 60s-90s so the title kind of came to my mind and it happened to be a prince reference. not really any ratings or warnings yet?? its nowhere near finished and im not sure if ill even finish it because i feel my writing heavily lacks.
anyway, without further ado
how many months had it been?
it had been months — years — since he recalled feeling this exact way. of course, haise had felt this way too, but it would never compare to the feelings he had for her before that brief period of time where he had lost recognition of everything and everyone who once meant something to him. ironically, it's when he felt most at peace with the butterflies in his stomach, beating against his rib cage and the cage surrounding the longing which could never be released. he’s regained his memories now, but he knew something was different within him even when he laid his glassy eyes on her again on that first visit to :re as sasaki haise. why did he feel so entrapped and yet so wrongly distant even when he had no recollection of her prior on that first visit to the cafe?
it would never be the same.
it would never compare to the feeling of falling in love with her and the realization that came with it. the realization that left him in a state of both a mix of surprise and agitation for days and with a feeling that could only be described as his heart skipping a beat and yet crumbling at the same time. it would never happen, would it? he had chosen to face that reality when he was still his old self, naive and too ashamed of his actions to actually face her after all the pain he caused her as a result of the pain which engulfed his entire life, too. too ashamed to accept his new reality, hiding behind his eyepatch — too ashamed to admit he had fallen in love so easily. he wasn't any different now.
haise may have fallen in love with her through the lens of a reborn figure with a fresh start and no boundaries to stand behind (apart from his obvious shyness and the weird sense of familiarity), but it just occurred by fate. the same fate that had snatched him from her years prior had found a way to bring him back into her arms and make him belong to her once again. he can't help but believe that maybe there was some future destined between them; the embittered part of his heart and soul makes him realize even that destiny would probably be cursed or filled with further strife.
though he supposed that didn't matter now.
not when he was even more distant from her than when he was an amnesiac with no recollection of her apart from the same old feeling of confusing comfort and longing. it's humorous and yet painful to think about how low he'd fallen in this aspect, not even being able to face her once again. despite his older age, he was still just a boy when it came to this same ancient rush, wasn't he? it doesn't matter. she surely didn't want anything to do with him anyways, especially not after everything that he's done. he's betrayed her and everyone who was once a part of him once again, and he’s chosen to accept that painful reality ever since he vowed to stop dreaming and flung tsukiyama off that building. facades all break down eventually.
though he supposed that didn't matter now, either.
he’d be disposed of soon enough before any of this could matter at all — before hinami was to be the one to disappear from the purgatory that was life as a ghoul. there was no heaven and there was no hell; there was no afterlife. heaven was bliss and safety on earth while hell was anguish and pain.
it was selfish of him to hope touka would feel any sort of pain after all of the grief and rage he's put her through time and time again, but he hoped he'd at least be remembered by the person he felt he loved most in this lifetime — the one who hadn't thrown him aside but who had instead built a nest for him as if though her life depended on it. he can't help but wonder… he’s had everyone he's ever known and cared for snatched from his hands by the same twisted fate that led him to await his upcoming death, he doesn't know if the puddle of both coldness and warmth in his stomach is either fear or love.
he'd truly cherish any memory he had of her before he’d be killed.
he vaguely remembers telling her, years ago, that he'd be sad if she died; he just hopes she would be saddened at his death, too.

You are pretty much act like a normal person who goes out to hide your own talent, it would go smoothly well since you found an abandoned music room to sing to your hearts content. But you were NOT prepared about what is going to happen...

"You had a good voice, please continue more."
"?!"
Vertin happened to hear you singing while you were practicing. She has to admit that she never heard that kind of genre of music since the Foundation only focuses on normal classical music and such.
Hearing yours was the first for her, and if you do want to have a even more private place to sing Vertin would offer you to go to the suitcase with her just to sing as you please.
Tho Vertin wanted to question why you kept your talent a secret but she can understand the reasoning for that.
Vertin may not shown expressions but she does wanted to hear more songs from your insane voice.
Plus she would need to find some warm drinks to help you with your throat.
Sonetto
"I didn't know that you had a singing voice!"
Sonetto would be the shocked one to hear your voice. She was minding her own business walking around till she heard your voice.
She does have her lessons of music?
Then again she does like to listen to your voice from time to time, it helps her distress and at the same time relax.
She sadly had to accept the fact that you had to hid yourself and your voice to the world knowing what they can do, so she kept it a secret.
Plus she can bring Vertin with her just to listen to your voice and with her ideas she can arrange some ideas to help you like giving you drinks and snacks or ask permission to Madam Z for recordings.

A little bit pouty that you can't reveal yourself and your talent to the world, but will soon adapt to that.

Out of all she is the most curious one, and you might find her listening to you the second she finds you walking to your usual room.
And plus she finds your voice wonderful.
Tho as for the lyrics, you would internally guess that Jessica would like to question the meaning of the song and lyrics, she is still new to the genre.
Jessica would question why you don't want to reveal yourself to the world but will soon accepts it and understands it.
She would find Blonney to come and listen to you if she finds her.
She is a fan of you after all that songs.
Tooth Fairy
"That was a relaxing tune you have."
You did hear a soft and calm voice from her, but Tooth Fairy reassures you that singing songs and practicing your singing voice is no easy feat to get a good talented voice.
She would like to listen to you practicing your voice when she has a free time to distress. Plus her fairies likes to listen to your voice.
You would think that Tooth Fairy would not like intense genre so you instead sing calming songs for her.
Normally Tooth Fairy would question why you don't show your talent to the world but she respects it.
But she is a doctor from time to time, she won't hesitate to give you some warm drinks and snacks to help you soothe your throat.
And if it's not much, you can have a calming duet with Tooth Fairy on the singing.
Horropedia (Joshua)
"Hey, nice voice! I didn't know that you could sing! Hey! Your voice reminds me of a siren that you can lure your enemies to a trap!"
Well that was a first, you knew that he would get out of the grounded area but he doesn't make it worse, but he didn't expect that he would caught you singing.
Sure there are other songs that he would like to listen. And would like to record it to finds ideas or listen to it.
Despite all Horropedia would be a bit confused as to why you don't reveal your talent to the world but he soon gets it and won't question it further.
Just expect to find him getting ready to either lightly jumpscare you or listens to you. Or you can ask him for his help to criticize your singing to at least help if that were the case, just be fully prepared for a long hour of his ramblings.
Plus you might find ideas thanks to his silly ramblings.
Tho you might find him giving you water every time you finish your songs.... Joshua really is silly... But also kind.

TKDB Boys as Lewis Capaldi songs
Putting this out as I warm myself up to starting part two of my Subaru mini fic. Lewis Capaldi is my fav singer at the moment so I'm combining my two hyper fixations :) Some of these make complete sense (objectively) and others make complete sense TO ME (subjectively) and some I'm completely lying through my teeth and just wanted to assign a song to be done with it. I'll let y'all know which is which and my explanations for them + the lyrics that I feel best go with them. Most of these we have to pretend the boys are romantic and melancholic cause that's the only way this'll work. The easiest were Towa and Subaru, I feel like they're the embodiment of the two faces of Lewis's songs (pining for love and having imposter syndrome lol). The hardest were Tohma and Ritsu but I'll try my best to explain.

Frostheim
Jin - How This Ends

I only had a bit of a hard time assigning Jin's because I felt like his and Romeo's could kinda go to either or. But in the end, this one made the most sense for Jin. It makes me think about what his family life could be like and it's a good contrast with the fire themes being an obstacle for the Ice King. The start of this song also mentions being useless and full of excuses which makes me think of how he's viewed from an outsider's perspective since Tohma clearly does all the work.
Tohma - Don’t Get Me Wrong
“Pray silence, I’m begging. Too tired to tell you I ain’t coming home. Stop for a second. Guess I got caught up in leading you on. And I ain’t responsible for the lump in your throat. Haven’t you had enough of all of this? Haven’t you had enough of loneliness? Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to stay too long. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to tell you whatever you want. But haven’t you had enough of loneliness? Haven’t we had enough of second best? So don’t get me wrong.”
GODDDD it was so hard assigning Tohma a song. Mostly because I just can't gauge him? I don't think I understand him all that well but I still tried. Anyways from what little we know about his past and how he most likely was Vagastrom turned Frostheim but still having relatively good relations with Vagastrom, something tells me that he switched houses because of some hidden ambition of his. He seems to be very driven and determined, like he wouldn't let external factors come between him and his goals. Like the song suggests, he doesn't settle for second best and hopes you understand.
Luca - Pointless
“From all my airs and graces to the little things I do, everything is pointless without you. Of all the dreams I’m chasing there’s only one I’d choose. Everything is pointless without you.”
What a sweet boy. This was one of the first ones I assigned in my head, mostly because he's a perfect little gentleman. He has goals and ambitions like Tohma but in my head there's nothing he wouldn't do for a loved one. Later in the song the lyrics go "I'll wait for you, I'll wait for you. You'll wait for me, too." And idk it just feels like him? Tell me I'm wrong.
Kaito - The Ancient Art of Always Fucking Up
“The story goes now he’s the kind of fool who breaks his heart as often as the moon shows its face to you. And I regret to say politely, I’m the guy who’ll more than likely lose like I always do.”
Boyfailure at it's finest. This entire song is his, I was thisss close to typing it all out. A master of the ancient art of always fucking up, Kaito seems to be prone to self-sabotaging both with love and finances. Give this song a listen, I promise it'll make sense.
Vagastrom 
Alan - Someone I Could Die For
“You know I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t dying for someone I could die for, someone I could try for. Fall apart and cry for, go ‘head risk my life for. Bullet to the brain for, take away the pain for. You know I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t dying for someone I could die for.”
Can you tell I love him? Call him Bruno Mars the way he'd catch a grenade for you. Or in this case, take a bullet to the brain for you. He's got that tough-looking exterior and he doesn't really feel he deserves love or to be that close to anybody but something tells me he yearns for it. Out of all of Vagastrom he's the only one looking for that someone to be vulnerable with but he's obviously not gonna show it.
Sho - Let it Roll
“And if you want to stay lost a while, I’ll rearrange the road I take and meet you out in the wild. And if you want we can wait behind. We can find a place to hide, maybe I could change your mind.”
Look I love Sho, okay. Sho, I love you. Listen Sho, I love you. You hang out with Leo which means you have the emotional depth of a walnut. I wasn't going to give him a song that was that deep because it just didn't make sense. He just seems like someone you could take a ride with and completely forget your troubles. He's unfortunately here for a good time, not a long time.
Leo - Forget Me
“Cause I’m not ready to find out you know how to forget me. I’d rather hear how much you regret me, and pray to god that you never met me, than forget me. Oh, I hate to know I made you cry but love to know I cross your mind, babe.” 
Lol, no he doesn't hate that he made you cry. He's actually collecting your tears in a bottle. But he really would rather you keep him on your mind even if it's pure hatred than have you forget him. That's probably his number one fear: being forgotten. He wants all of your attention and he doesn't care how it comes.
Jabberwock
Haru - Someone You Loved
“I’m going under and this time I fear there’s no one to turn to. This all-or-nothing way of loving’s got me sleeping without you. Now, I need somebody to know, somebody to heal, somebody to have, just to know how it feels. It’s easy to say but it’s never the same. I guess I kinda liked the way you helped me escape.”
Haru was also a bit of a tossup for me. This is mostly carried by the desire to heal someone. It really feels like he just needs someone on his corner FOR ONCE IN HIS LIFE. Someone PLEASE help him escape some of his responsibilities or at least take some off his shoulders.
Towa - Before You Go/Haven’t You Ever Been in Love Before
“So, before you go, was there something I could’ve said to make your heart beat better? If only I’d have known you had a storm to weather. So, before you go, was there something I could’ve said to make it all stop hurting? It kills me how your mind could make you feel so worthless.”
“And maybe I’m a fool, but I just can’t live with regret, I’d rather dive off the deep end. Will you hold me like you want me? But you don’t give me nothing else. Feel this happening, but you feel absent. Can you tell me what it is? And she said this: ‘Haven’t you ever been in love before? Like I said in the intro, Towa's vibes make up half of all Lewis Capaldi songs. He's the free spirit, he's the guy that believes in soulmates. I gave him two because I couldn't decide which one fit him better. He's really looking to take away all your troubles so lean on him as much as you like. For the second part I was imagining a conversation with him under the tree going like this. He'll hear you rant about how this curse has sullied all thoughts of love for you and hearing this breaks his heart a little because he feels you deserve love.
Ren - Bruises 
“There must be something in the water, cause everyday it’s getting colder. And if only I could hold you, you’d keep my head from going under.”
This one's short because it's Ren, hello! He's so emotionally stunted, there really wasn't much to go off of. Chose something with water in it cause haha funny. Honestly though if he DID find a way to express emotion, he would probably hold the metaphor of drowning and you being his lifesaver close to his heart. I actually love him so I had to try at least a little bit for him.
Sinostra 
Taiga - A Cure for Minds Unwell
“That, if I’m being honest, I couldn’t tell you this is all I wanted. I struggle sleeping cause the house feels haunted. Filled with the shadows of regret, and the things I should’ve said to the ones I’ve laid to rest and lately, I’m terrified that all my youth is fading. Man, growing old is so excruciating. Is there a cure for minds unwell? Cause my head’s a living hell, if I’m honest with myself.”
At first, I was conflicted on finding a song for Taiga for obvious reasons but then I remembered this specific part of this song and it made me think of some theories of Taiga freshly post-clash realizing that his mental state was deteriorating and then I got sad :,) Y'all are really geniuses with these theories by the way, I love it. Keep the hurt coming for me PLEASE.
Romeo - Burning
“So maybe now instead of balancing on the edge we could put this to bed for good. Could call it quits or risk sinking with this broken ship but I don’t think we’d make it through, through. Now it’s only the beat of my heart that reminds me not to stare at the sparks. Can’t set fire to my soul just to keep ya, keep ya, keep ya from burning alone.”
Like I said, Jin and Romeo really could've gone either way. Their family situations to me feel vaguely similar but this one felt like it spoke more to Romeo. He is, as Taiga calls him, a greedy bastard. He's experienced what it's like losing everything and now he's desperately trying to hold on to what he has like his life depends on it and he's really not about to let anyone stop him. He's not really caring or empathetic to your situation however much he fakes otherwise and he's not about to risk his livelihood to save you, I'm sorry.
Ritsu - Grace
“On the verge of almost bleeding you out. Are we too wounded now to ever come down? Oh, how I long for us to find common ground. I’ve got nothing but you on my mind.”
This was the hardest one BY FAR. I kinda don't have an explanation because even though I said "let's pretend they're romantics," he's really just, not? And he's not melancholic either so have some crumbs lol.
Hotarubi
Subaru - Maybe/The Pretender

Again, two songs because he's the second half of all Lewis songs. Did someone say imposter syndrome? He's an actor, what do you expect. The first one could have also gone to Rui but I feel it's more fitting for Subaru. He's a little too self-conscious about his stigma and he holds out on personal relationships because of it.
Haku - Love the Hell Out of You

Lock me up and throw away the key, he knows how to get the best out of me ~ HAKUUUU my love. This one was a no-brainer, I mean come on. He and Rui are peak romantics. He was the first one to help you and by god, he'll be the last. I have no other words. Live, laugh, love, Haku.
Zenji - Heavenly Kind of State of Mind

I'm sorry but this one was FUNNYYYY to me. You know, cause he's, y'know...anyways. This whole song feels like how he talks and how he would probably sing it too. Even from the start, "it's almost cruel, the blue in your eyes. The kind of blasphemy that makes a congregation cry." TELL ME THAT'S NOT SOMETHING HE'D SAY. It's almost as eccentric as he is and there really was no better option for him.
Obscuary 
Ed - Forever
“Darling, nobody said that it would last forever. That doesn’t mean we didn’t try to get there. I never said that we would die together. That doesn’t mean it was a lie, remember. Nobody said that it would last forever.” 
Hahaha pain. Can you imagine Ed living through a bunch of lovers and outliving them all? At some point he'd stop caring but he'd really have to tell you not to expect much from him. He probably avoids becoming attached to anyone anymore.
Rui - Lost on You
“Everyday I’m a slave to the heartache, and you’re wasting away every night. I don’t wanna leave you lonely, but I’ve run out of love this time. You know that I adore you, though I couldn’t give enough. Hope you’ll be safe in the arms of another, cause I can’t take the weight of your love.” 
Pain again. I warned y'all this one would hurt. Of course he'd HAVE to give you up at some point because not being able to touch you was punishment enough. You both have to move on now.
Lyca- Mercy

I feel like I’m just wasting time before you pull the trigger. It’s the drawing of the line, it’s my ghost you’re gonna give up. HAHAHAHA PAIN PAIN PAIN OH IT HURTS SO GOOD. I thought of two things for this one. 1) Idk but I headcannon that whoever this Neros person is, he's either dead or he wants nothing to do with Lyca. Either way I can imagine their time together before Lyca was imprisoned and him not understanding why Neros is leaving him. 2) His time with Subaru before he actually trusted him. He fully believed Subaru was sent to kill him and he felt kind of conflicted opening up to someone who would probably be his downfall. But then he warms up to Subaru and instead of thinking "when is he gonna kill me" it's "when is he coming back" whenever the lulls between Subaru's visits become too lengthy. This one really hit too close to home :,)
Mortkranken
Yuri - Old Navy Blue
“No matter though how good things go, they’ve always got to end. I’ve said goodbye to family from the side of their sick beds. Okay hear me out. So before the Mortkranken episode, I really did not like Yuri. After it though? AND after Episode 8?? Bro really is overworked and does he get the respect he deserves? Not a lick. I also headcannon that his medical ambitions stem from his possible experiences with loss in his personal life and now he's really just determined to be the best doctor there ever was. Sure, he's got some arrogance going for him but I mean it's kind of warranted when your talents aren't truly recognized. It's kinda necessary or else he's gonna lose his shit. No harm keeping his ego in check from time-to-time though.
Jiro - Rush
“I miss the tone of your heartbeat. It’s such a warming and familiar sound. I hope you’re finding the power to help you make it through the darker days. For now I’ll wait by the hour if you wanna take somebody’s breath away.” 
Do I even have to explain this one? Pre-clash to post-clash Jiro is most likely a completely different person. I can imagine him having some remnants of memories from his past of who he was and who he left behind but still not quite fully understanding what this emptiness is and if it was always there.

It the musical! Henry Bowers head cannons

I thought it would be fun and interesting to try and write like a sad back story for this version of Henry since we don't know anything about his homelife and why he is the way he is. So here's some head cannons about his life to explain what his whole deal is. Just to clarify a big part of this post is Musical! Henry being a closeted trans man with toxic masculinity. I am bigender so i felt like this would be an interesting thing to explor for the character but if you (understandably) get the ick from having an antagonist like Henry be trans and don't wanna read this that's fine. I get it, an unfortunate amount of villains in media are trans and seen as more scary because of it, i'm not trying to do that here but if you don't wanna hear this it's fine. I just think it would be interesting if because lots of people already read Henry as being in the closet, and he's played by a female presenting actor, i could make him trans.
So uh, yeah withoit further ado, here's the headcannons:
-Musical! Henry unlike the other versions of Henry is AFAB. (His full name is Henrietta just like his mom) It's pretty obvious to everyone that Henry is AFAB, and the fact the losers call him by male pronouns is more so just to exaggerate how much of a sexist douchebag he is, they have no idea Henry is actually trans. He himself doesn't know he's trans, he just assumes he enjoys it because being a man seems to be the best thing in the world to him. There is undoubtably some transness going on, but I don't think Musical! Henry ever truly accepts it. He just thinks "yeah im so cool im basically a guy". By the time Henry is in juniper Hills any hopes of him acknowledging he might actually be transgender are pretty dismal, especially with the way Juniper Hills treats their patients.
-The losers calling Henry a man just started as one of those stupidly insensitive things kids do, but as adults they're all like "Ohhhh. Henry really DID like being called that. That's good for him I guess." And they continue to call Henry a dude because even though he's transphobic and sucks ass they're not transphobes. I also think Musical! Eddie and Stan are trans too (Hence why the losers lovingly call Stan stan the man and Henry calls Eddie girlyboy to insult him) so they ain't judging.
-The reason Henry's Juniper Hills outfit is just like a tank top and shorts is to try and disuade his transness, since they know Henry loves wearing jackets and pants. If the Juniper Hills staff can help it they'll try to "fix" Henry in anyway they see fit. Wether it's outright referring to Henry as a woman to his face or just beating Henry senseless for exhibiting masculine traits, Henry is subjected to lots of transphobia from the medical system.
-The transphobia he's experienced in there fuels his preformance of elastic heart, the lyrics of the song are unsurprisingly about just moving on from the things that hurt you and never breaking down. It proves that despite everything Henry has had to face in his 27 years at Juniper Hills, he's still not a woman like the doctors are trying to force him to be.
-Even though Musical! Henry would still be trans no matter the envirement they were raised in, his dysphorhia has an accidentally toxic layer to it from how often Butch drills into Henry how femininity is weakness. Henry can't just be a man because that's how they feel, they also have to be a man because being masculinity is power and he wants to be seen as more valuable. Henry is so fucked in the head he can't just admit he's trans and be happy, he has to weaponize the fact he's more masculine than Eddie or Stan.
-His lack of self acceptance also makes him more prone to lash out. Obviously at home Henry is constantly called a girl and all this stuff when he knows he doesn't feel like that at all. He's a huge mess of emotions with no outlet for support or even really labels to help, so he responds to his dysphoric feelings at home by being ultra sexist, transphobic, and violent to the people around him. He has serious toxic masculinity because the only version of masculinty that he feels is acceptable is Butch's (which is also, unfortunately, a very white version of masculinity too).
-Every sexist thing Henry says about Bev is things his father has said about him.
-It the musical! Henry is mixed, their mother is black and their dad is white. Henry gets his blonde hair from his dad.
-Butch Bowers would have abused any woman but his abuse of Henrietta was absolutely emboldened by the fact she was black, it was no wonder she left.
-Henry's hatred of Mike Hanlon stems more from colorism than just straight up racism like his book counterpart (although there's definitely still aspects of that).
-Part of the reason Butch is so cruel to Henry is that he is mixed, but Henry still likes to claim his whiteness to feel superior to Mike. He's darker and had two black parents so Henry still feels better than him. Henry still very much idolizes Butch so anything he can claim to make him feel closer to his father, even if it's just a lighter skin tone or half his genes, he will use it. His anti-blackness is probably not helped by the fact his black mother abandoned him.
-The racism also affects how he views Bill and Eddie since they are also racebended in the musical. Henry is less racist to asian people than he is to other black people, but he's still very racist towards Eddie.
-As for his friendship with Musical! Patrick despite him being black, i think it's safe to say his colorism doesn't affect Patrick because he 1. Doesn't give a shit, and 2. Probably lives up to all the stereotypes Henry believes of dark skinned black men (cunning, violent, sneaky, ect.).
-It the musical Henry is really just one messy hodge podge of internalized misogyny, anti blackness, and the inability to accept his trans identity.

Here's a headcanon/theory I have:
Heart, Mind, and Soul's physical features all mean things. Let me explain.
Heart- He has a blindfold. We've all heard the saying, "love is blind." I'd like to think that Heart fully represents that. He hardly sees what's right in front of him, hence why Mind's logic means nothing to him. In Storm and a Spring, Mind acknowledges that all Heart hears when he speaks is blah blah blah, and this would be because he simply can't understand how Mind thinks.
Mind- He has mechanical hands. Mind is repeatedly described to have mechanical hands in the songs, representing how he's unable to feel anything, as there's no nerves in robotic hands. This often leads to coming off as arrogant, unempathetic, and accidentally putting down Heart. The lyrics, "But mechanical hands decided where the heart would be, just apathy." from Mucka Blucka embody this quite well, and so do the lyrics, "Resident Heart is feeble and frail, a scourge to purge, due diligence is all." from The Mind Electric.
In summary so far, neither Heart nor Mind can understand one another. But, if you notice, all of these songs are from Cacophony, and understanding brings the issue to be resolved. This starts in Light.
But, without further ado:
Soul- Half is him is dark, and half of him is light. This represents that he's a two-sided person, and this is represented quite will in the variation of his parts in songs and how he's described by the other two. In The Soul Eclectic, the others describe him with the lyrics, "He's a damn mad man. He's a depressed fool. (Is that the one we truly want to be?)/[Abandon him and we could be so free.]" To the others, he's described negatively, (or at least at that point in the album) but in the same song, he describes himself as someone in a powerful position, hence "You must be so arrogant to think that either of you can control the Soul so wholly". On one hand, he holds himself as someone important, but on the other hand, he seems to be the most self-destructive, as he seemed like he was going to kill himself when he said "Guess that means we'll tie the rope today." in The Bidding. Also, something worth pointing out is the considerable change in tone between Mucka Blucka and Dream. In Mucka Blucka, he seems to act like a ringmaster at a circus, while in Dream, he acts troubled.
(Note: I thought I might include that in the Soul Eclectic, he never blatantly says that he's in control, cutting himself off on things like "Here in my kingdom, I am your-" and "You seem to forget, you answer to-" and while it is implied, Soul doesn't have any real power over them. Their actual ruler would actually be Whole, or the point is that none of them can actually be controlled.)

Madness and Emotion - A Halateez Coded Song Analysis.
It’s been rolling through my head for a while that Crazy Form could be Halateez. That perhaps Will (or at least the first half of it) is from their perspective. It would be in line with the color schemes and the general dark theme of the of the album. That and some of the concept photos seem to really lean that way.

It really got me thinking though, if Will is Halateez then a lot of the lyrics we’re used to seeing in other songs would mean different things. There are a lot of lyrics and themes we can easily connect to Feverteez and their story arc, but not nearly as many we can connect to Halateez. It’s been years since we’ve been introduced to the concept of Halateez, and yet we still don’t know much about them other than they’re from Strictland and we’re leading a revolution until they were captured.

I know many people debate if Halateez and Feverteez are the same people or different people. Generally I think of them as different people, because even if they were the same originally their different life experiences would’ve made them different on the inside. (Although I admit, this album made me wonder if perhaps the theories ab them merging/being the same person at some point, are true.)
I’m not necessarily saying that every song on the album is Halateez, because we can’t know that one way or the other for sure. (You have no idea how long I’ve been tearing my hair out over this.) But what I can tell you is that Will feels different. Outlaw is crazy! Outlaw is chaos! But Will is different. Will is desperation to the point of madness.
Something I don’t think Feverteez is capable of right now.
So without further ado, here’s my vaguely Halateez perspective song analysis. (We Know/Emergency/Arriba/Silver Light)

WE KNOW
This song is by far a favorite of mine on the album. It comes on strong. It’s powerful. There’s desperation and challenge in it, as thought it’s the beginning of something bigger.
It’s The Comeback. It’s their comeback. Halateez.
One thing I found interesting as I was reading the lyrics is how much it seems as though they are both the hunters and the hunted. They’re back and they’re coming after you. But who is you? The government? Z? The brainwashed citizens of Strictland?

I swear, “I’m the morning,” always gives me chills. It’s so perfect for the role they’re playing because it connects both to the idea of waking up and also to imagery of the sun rising in the darkness. Dawn. In Wave, the concept of ‘the wave’ is that of a challenge a trial. They’re sending a warning because they are the challenge.
When I think of a wave I imagine something huge, overwhelming, something bigger than just them. Halateez is back, but it’s not just them. Feverteez is still a symbol of hope sure, but Halateez is the og. I would guess that even though many people are willing to join the revolution while Feverteez is spearheading it, many more would show up to follow Halateez especially if they pull a Jesus and come back from their ‘presumed deadness’. That would make sense connected to the title of the album. Will. A word that makes me think of the phrase ‘the will of the people’. As the Crazy Form MV suggests, they’re assembling their own little army of progressively growing number. Their own Wave made of the citizens of Strictland.

I see this as a threat to Z & anyone who’ll stand by him, but also as a message of hope to anyone trapped so deep in the blackhole of emotionless existence that they don’t think they can escape. However…I wonder if part of it is directed towards Feverteez too, as a warning not to get sucked into the false dreams as they have a habit of doing. (Which would be kinda funny if the unit songs are Feverteez in dreams again ToT)

“-thunder will turn the lights on…” I’m going to assume that this reference to ‘thunder’ is supposed to mean Thunder the undercover organization within Prestige Academy. So Halateez (and Feverteez) have teamed up with Thunder (as in the Diaries) and are trusting them to “turn the lights on”. My theory on that is very much connected to the Will diaries. At the end of the Will diaries Thunder’s leader, (the Be Free girl) is sent in to meet Z, an undercover mission that would bring her to very center of the Strictland regime. If she is caught showing emotion everything will be blown, but if she manages to stay hidden, she’ll be able to relay information straight from the government’s head office to Thunder and the Black Pirates (Halateez’s revolutionary group that Feverteez has been working with). My guess is that turning the lights on is supposed to mean shedding light on the terrible things Z has done. Releasing information that no one else should know and making it clear who’s really the bad guys.
Halateez is finally ready to reveal themselves to the world, they’re no longer waiting or hiding. It is the right time to come out and stand as they are. (Likely alongside Feverteez somehow.)
I’d also like to mention how cool the last line is, because it comes through with very real world implications. “My mic’s on” is a very kpop thing to say, (for obvious reasons) at concerts etc. BUT it’s also very applicable to the idea of ‘be careful I’m not afraid to say what needs to be said’ it’s a thinly veiled threat about revealing the truth. ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧//✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧
Emergency
Frankly this song is so concerning. The first time I read the lyrics I was a little bit scared for the tone of this whole album. This whole song is just pure Dionysian madness. No matter what iteration of Ateez you think Will is, Emergency is concerning.

This whole chunk of lyrics could be connected to irl Ateez, (five years since mainstream, etc…) which would be pretty depressing, but also something which is necessary to think about. Even when looking at things from a Lore™️ perspective, realizing how it applies to real life is important to understanding the perspective. From an irl perspective, lore aside, this song is about getting lost in fame. Endless parties, endless emergencies, and a life you can’t go back to. The pressure closing in. Losing yourself in the game.
Which, though not exactly what Halateez/Feverteez is feeling, it’s pretty darn close. This song, lore perspective, is still about the pressure closing in and losing yourself in the game. The biggest differences is that Halateez is infamous rather than famous, and the pressure is quite literally the fear of death. So, uh yea. This could be Feverteez, sure, finally crumbling under the pressure of having to save a world that isn’t their own. But I really, really, believe it’s Halateez. Why? First, overall Halateez is rougher around the edges than Feverteez. Second, (and most important) how long has Halateez had emotion? If we assume The Real is their backstory we can say they’ve had emotion since Highschool….right? But if it’s not, then how long has it been? 5 years?? More???
Is that really enough to feel the depths of despair and come back from it? Is that really enough time to learn to control how you feel? Sometimes do they wish they’d never woken their emotions?

I’m going to agree with Tiny Bug Ink on this one, that the Light is another reference to their treasure. (their video here) But what is their treasure. We know what Feverteez treasures are from the first diaries. But do we know what Halateez’s are? Are they the same?
“A wish I’ve fervently desired from the beginning of the explosion.” This isn’t something Feverteez would say. The explosion is the revolution, but Halateez is the only one who saw the beginning of the revolution, they started it, they got the ball rolling.
Why? Why did they start the revolution? They wanted Freedom.
Freedom is their treasure.

It took me a week to realize this, but the phrase “Who is gonna play?” along with the “You better run, hide & seek.” from We Know and Yeosang’s hopscotch part from Bouncy are all probably supposed to connect to the idea of The Game. (Something Tiny Bug Ink pointed out in this video)
Throughout the whole World Series (yet another phrase associated with games), Ateez has consistently referred to the world as a game. These lines are just a few of the many that connect the concepts, and I’m not quite sure their meaning in the long term, but it is really interesting. As of this song they’ve lost their hope. They’ve lost their trust in the world and maybe even each other. They’re stuck in emotional limbo drowning themselves in alcohol. Thinking of the events of the Will diaries I don’t really blame them. Somehow the events of the diaries seems so much worse if it was the world you came from, not some dreamlike parallel universe.
I also wanted to point out “Party never ends”, because it’s just yet another usage of the word End which they seem to be throwing in everywhere this comeback. Party never ends.

This song was frustratingly hard to analyze. It has a very similar vibe to Emergency when it comes to lyrics and general theme, but unlike Emergency it’ no longer a cry for help, they’ve just let everything go.
I thought it was interesting that Arriba, (assuming google isnt screwing with me) is essentially Spanish slang for Up! (encouraging) So it’s probably supposed to be an equal equivalent to;
“We go up.”

For the chorus, the words ‘dirty night’ we (as in me) almost immediately connected to sex, debauchery, etc… And while yes there is plenty of evidence in the song to make that connection, I feel like it has a double meaning. For violence. It’s a dirty night not just because they’re letting their inhibitions go and partying hard. It’s a dirty night because of the fear and hopelessness that even drove them to that point. For the threat of death hanging over them.

This whole album constantly seems to reference the end of something. Which is both concerning, and not because of the whole ‘beginning is the end, end is the beginning’ thing.

“My nose grows longer like Pinocchio’s” I think this line is particularly important, simply because it’s not instantly connected to the other lyrics. Ok so, he’s lying. But to whom? The people around him? Or himself?
I really like the context of the word dreamers. Irl a ‘street of dreamers’ is someplace someone goes to achieve their dreams, but contextually it could also mean a street of dreaming people. It’s the road of the people of the revolution. Dreaming of freedom literally and figuratively. I love the addition of Picasso and Salvador both as Spanish artists, but additionally, on top of that, they were both part of the Surrealism movement in art. A movement in art that emphasized the power of dreams and subconscious.

Silver Light
Let me just start off with saying that this song breaks me almost every time I listen to it. There’s just something so intensely emotional about it that it always makes me want to cry. Silver Light is the moment where the insanity of the last four songs melt into a single ray of hope. It’s perfect.

The very first line of the song has the word chain in it, and it’s sung by Wooyoung. Which makes me instantly connect it to two things; The Fever Diaries and the Wonderland MV.
In his very first diary entry, Wooyoung talks about stage fright. This is the final paragraph of his entry. (Read the full thing here)

In his diary Wooyoung uses the word ‘chain’ to represent his fear. What was holding him back. I think, in Silver Light it’s being used the same way. The citizens of Strictland are afraid of emotion, afraid of feeling, afraid of being in pain and showing it. I wasn’t expecting to relate so fully with these lyrics, but as I was turning them over in my head I realized something…It’s the same as when you want to cry but can’t because you’re afraid of being vulnerable. Afraid people will judge you. It’s that feeling, isn’t it?
Being afraid of showing emotion…Chained by fear…huh.

I’m sure there are more times they use the word chain in their discography. Times that aren’t related to Woo. But I can’t think of any off the top of my head, so for now he just owns that word.
Now, I can’t talk about the word wings without mentioning Seonghwa’s (super fking amazing) dance break on D1 of their tour. It lives in my mind rent free and I’ve thought about nothing else. It’s so- *screaming/crying*

But it’s also related to wings and the concept of freedom. The Strictland guards ‘take his wings’ a metaphor for taking his freedom. They leave him because he’s already broken, not physically, but mentally. They stole his freedom of thought. (I’m not crying no)
I could talk forever about this dance break. I won’t, but I do want to talk about how it relates to Halateez. If they lived in the emotionless void that Strictland is for their whole lives and then one day discovered feeling. If they learned how to feel and sense and hope and yearn. How to live alive. Could they go back?
They were captured, locked up, away from their friends in glass boxes, and forced to watch people being tortured. They had their freedom, which is probably their only treasure, ripped from them. They were sent to hell after they first learned how to feel. Don’t you think they’d want to go back to how it was before ? To embrace emotionlessness? To give up? The stealing of his wings can mean a lot of things. Not being able to go back home, losing emotion, losing hope, giving up, the moment of despair. But look at him and tell me that’s not what despair looks like.

This verse gives me heart palpitations, and not just bc I love HJ’s rapping.
“This is the last chance, maybe.” This line makes me think of the breaking of the cromer in the Crazy Form MV. Assuming the scene isn’t a reference to when Yeosang broke the first cromer to save them, they broke the second cromer. Maybe there’s a third artifact they can use to time/dimension travel. Maybe that’s what the cube is. But if that’s true, if they break it they can’t go back home. It also made me wonder. Was that how Halateez felt when they first found the cromer and first used the it? They were desperate enough to summon Feverteez from another dimension. A plan that sounds like a last ditch effort if I ever heard one. As though they’d lost all hope in themselves.
Throughout the whole album there are constant references to the end, the last, the final. Will is the end of something. It could be the end of the uprising whether winning or losing, the end of Halateez hiding their identities, or even the end of Feverteez dream and adventure in Strictland. Really, we won’t even know what was the end of until next comeback. (It could pick up anywhere, I’m scared.) To be honest, this was the hardest set of lyrics to analyze. Specifically these lines: “There’s no law saying die. The trigger at the edge of breath.” Like excuse me what. (Genius.com really let me down on this one ToT) So I looked up other translations and they were equally confusing. But I did find this vv

I don’t pretend to know Korean, so going strictly off these translations I’m guessing it roughly means: We can’t die yet. So there’s that.

In irl sense the “radiant light” and “countless voices” are Atiny. There have been countless times Ateez has referred to us as their Light, Lights, or Stars. (Excuse me I’m sobbing.)
In a lore sense though, it probably means the citizens of Strictland. The people who are slowly waking up and desperate for freedom, desperate for someone to save them from meaningless existence.
Which, really. Isn’t it the same? Living our boring lives, to work, to school, to sleep. A lot of us these days are really living in a grey world. Ateez music, their performances, are loud and bright, emotional and spectacular. They motivate and inspire us to wake up. To find our treasures. To feel our emotions. To dance.
Ateez started small, like really small. But now they’re able to inspire us to dream big, to hope. I like to think this song says the opposite is true as well. We inspire them, to hope, to continue going forward. And as idealistic as it sounds, I believe it. Because I’ve been inspired by fellow Atiny’s creations time and time again. ❤️
Now, for the final piece. In typical me fashion I looked deeper than I needed to and found something interesting on the concept of Ego. (So it connects to Crazy Form too)
In Freudian psychology, Ego is the conscious part of the mind that keeps your Id (instincts/monkey brain) in line with your Superego (morality/ideals). Without a strong enough Ego you lose control of yourself and descend into a kind of insanity characterized by blindly searching for pleasure. Ego is characterized as the realistic part of the human psyche, including rational thinking, planning, and self-control. (More info here.)
In this context “My ego’s in this show.” Likely is supposed to mean; ‘I’ve thought this through’, or ‘I’m doing this of my own will’.

I feel like, even if they’re dead/gone/merged, Feverteez’s journey is still related to them more than it’s not. That’s why I go so hard on my Halateez shenanigans. Because they’re important dammit.

Let's check the themes today...
Oh! It's about the lyrics of an old human song... from a show about boring people in ties.
Now, "somebody's blood" would refer to cartel executions. It's more direct and literal. Most lyrics sites say this, ya know.
"Summer's bird", on the other hand, would provide a contrast to "love this winter breeze", and refer to Saul's optimism being "shot down". It sounds more like two syllables than three in the first word, at least to me. You should get your ears checked!
It's a dark show! A neo-Western! There's gotta be some blood in it!

Reflections: Cillian Murphy’s Limited Edition
Season 3, episode 1

*I am a music prof (predominantly classical vocalist), and I LOVE listening to Cillian’s music choices! That being said, sometimes I won’t like a song simply because of a vocalist (it’s a professional hazard - sorry!) 👩‍🏫
** The following are my own observations/opinions. We may not agree, and that’s ok! That’s what makes music fun! 😊
*** I wouldn’t say I’m well-versed in Cillian’s music preferences, but I do enjoy them (for the most part). I always wind up adding to my own playlists after listening to Cillian’s recommendations.

And without further ado… my reflections!
🎵 Set 1 (24 Track Loop - Halleluhwah)
This seems to be all electronic music focused. He’s done entire episodes around electronic music before, so I’m enjoying the sampling. Great way to start!
I also remember him saying somewhere that he takes time creating sets of music. I appreciate that and it helps the flow and continuity so much.
Side note - it’s taken me a looooong time to appreciate electronic music, but thanks to Cillian, I now can say I like it
24 Track Loop: reminds me of the first composers to play with recorded sampling compositions in the ‘50s (Varèse comes to mind), but the “track loop” is reminiscent of early minimalist recordings in the late ‘60s, especially with how repetitive some of the sounds become.
Diskhat: yeah, I’m definitely getting ‘50s experimentalist vibes! Reminds me of John Cage’s prepared piano pieces (and honestly it may be quoting some but I’m not sure so this is a guess), but mixed with some funky grooves! As weird as this is, it’s growing on me and I kinda really like it!
Halleluhwah: nice vamp at the beginning 😎 this is definitely something that could get stuck in my head and I wouldn’t mind it!

When he’s talking about the above 3 songs, the “insistency” is so true. They all have elements of a continuous underlying pulse, which is pretty common in electronic and minimalist music.
I do find fault with his term “atonality” - atonal music has no pitch center, but the pieces just played DO have a pitch center.

Fix: not my favorite song, but peaceful. I neither like nor dislike

Look down: nice, chill. Again, not my favorite, but I don’t dislike it. Interesting instrument choices. 👍
Pale Blue Eyes: I like everything about this except for his voice. I wish I liked it, but I don’t. 🤷‍♀️ if I had to describe it, his voice sounds thin, and the voice teacher within me wants more.
These songs seem like great examples of storytelling within music, so I definitely see why Cillian likes them.

The way these songs blend into the next is so satisfying 😌
Three Drums: I like how this is a “cool down” from the craziness of No No, but also pairs really well. Nice and chill. It’s a feel good song and such a vibe. 😎

Again, the transitions between songs are soooo well done!
Master Crowley’s: the drone and pedal points are so effective! The inclusion and intentional omission actually do a lot in building momentum. It’s also so cool how eventually everything fades into the background and you’re left with just sonorities, and then you go back and get a mix of everything! 💯
Jah Nuh Dead: Sinéad!!! I hadn’t heard this song before, and it’s absolutely beautiful and haunting. It takes a special person to keep you captivated and carry their own against such bare/sparse accompaniment. She has such a unique voice. She’ll truly be missed.

“A flight of musical fantasy within structure.” Ya know, not a bad definition of jazz. You do improvise over a pre-arranged chord progression, so that makes sense!
🎵Set 14 (Coral - nightclub)
Coral: not gonna lie, this is my least favorite selection of the show. HOWEVER, I will give credit where it’s due! I do appreciate that he’s got word plays, puns, and other poetic devices all over the place. That stuff mimics some of the techniques you’ll find throughout jazz. Now what’s really cool is the background music - you can hear bits and pieces influenced from different eras of jazz, such as New Orleans, swing, some bebop, and more modern stuff as well! Even though I hate it, I appreciate what it does.
Also, I first thought this song was a cheesy ad 😂😅 I definitely can tell he’s a voice actor
Nightclub: I like this a lot! Crazy how it goes from insanity to something really sweet, funny, and enjoyable. The background music is so ethereal and although a bit random, it’s great! The contradiction is like “salty and sweet” snacks. It shouldn’t work, but it does. Although I guess it mirrors some of the temporary images in the poem, like the smoke disappearing.

Hinoki Wood: an interesting choice of instrument. You can tell it’s an old upright that needs a bit of maintenance, but it does have some charm.
Woman In Late: ok, so we are back to the tape loop concepts seen at the beginning of the show! Kinda cool how he’s circling back. Anyway, the “tape loop,” or looping of small lengths of recorded tape, was a thing done at the beginning of the minimalist trend in the ‘60s (think Reich or Riley) to create this fuzzy sound effect seen here. I love how you hear that influence in so many corners of the music world!

I see what ya did there… 😂

Now, usually I don’t listen to Sabrina Carpenter or any former Disney channel star who does music for that matter. But I guess that all changes today. With the great success of her music career, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like what she’s releasing… ESPECIALLY this song in particular. So without further ado, let’s get started.
Concept: 10/10 I loved summer vibe of the song. It’s so fun and different to what I’ve been hearing lately.
Lyrics: 10/10 This screams Taurus. I know that cause my best friend is a Taurus and everything Sabrina is singing is exactly what she would say. (Sorry for calling you out bestie but you know it’s true) The lyrics are so fun and relatable and honestly ✨slay✨
Beat: 10/10: This beat does have a familiarity to it but doesn’t any song? I definitely can say it’s a really good sound..
Visuals: 12/10 Yes it broke the scale. Why you may ask? WELL, if you haven’t seen the video, you should. It has just the right amount of comedy, sensualness, and just summer fun. Again I’m glad she went with the concept she did with the video. It’s super fun.
Overall: 10/10 Although this song came out in April, you would be crazy not to want to listen to this song during the summer. This is a song that is meant for you and your friends. So add this song to your playlist if you haven’t!
This song is getting a 10.4/10!! If you haven’t already, go and listen to this song and add it to your playlist and play it for your friends! It is a great beach song and honestly, it’s been on repeat for me since I heard it! Sabrina, you did your thang girl, keep up the good work!

Lyrical Analysis: "willow" from evermore
What up, my fellow friends, Swifties and people on the internet! This is my lyrical analysis for “willow” by Taylor Swift from the evermore album. I am not affiliated with or am sponsored by Taylor Swift in any way - these are just my own individual thoughts about the lyrics to one of my favorite songs.

So, without further ado, here’s my lyrical analysis of “willow.”

I’m like the water when your ship rolled in that night
Rough on the surface, but you cut through like a knife
The imagery in this song is vivid and stunning: a ship cutting through water at its arrival during the night. As for what kind of ship and what kind of waters, that’s up to individual interpretation (I personally like to think it’s an old wooden ship cutting through a wine-dark sea against a midnight sky, but that’s just my opinion). 
Taylor/the narrator further elaborates on how she is like the water: “rough on the surface”. This implies that the most common first impression people see of her is someone that is kind of unapproachable, or someone that looks like a grumpy loner when she is really soft and tender. The imagery of someone cutting through her “like a knife” seems to me like this particular person saw through all of her facades instantly. 
Additionally, when a sharp knife cuts through something, it is a clean cut. 
And if this was an open-shut case
I never would’ve known by that look on your face
An “open-shut case” is any kind of case where the evidence/the facts of the case is so strong or obvious that there is no questioning what happened. This could be a nod to Taylor’s love of true crime (as will be shown in her song “no body, no crime” feat. HAIM). However, she follows up this lyric by emphasizing that she never would’ve known by the look on her love’s face. This to me implies that this love interest of hers is someone who acts ignorant of their effect on her.
Lost in your current like a priceless wine
Back to the ship and water imagery! Ships that shipped wine across oceans were highly valuable due to what they were carrying. When a shipwreck happened, the wine would age for years (possibly centuries), which only made the wine better in taste and quality. When such wine is recovered, it is very expensive and my guess is that only the insanely rich can afford it. This adds to the imagery that this type of love is rare and precious. 
“Current” is a play on “currant” (at least I think so), which is a fruit that has been used in some wines instead of grapes. 
The more that you say, the less I know
You know when you are in love with someone/are insanely attracted to someone, and you hang out with them or even talk with them for a while, and you’re so twitterpated/fascinated by this person that common knowledge and sense seem to go out the window, and then you go home and are feeling so in love that you might stop breathing and nothing else matters? That’s this line. This line is vulnerable and honest. The more that the narrator and the love interest interact and talk, the less the narrator is sure of what she wants. 
Wherever you stray, I’ll follow
Devotion. Complete, unyielding devotion. Even if this love interest were to stray from the path in any way, she’d follow him without question. It could also be read as a statement of slight desperation - the feeling of being so in love with someone that one would declare that they would follow them anywhere, just to be with them. 
I’m begging for you to take my hand
Wreck my plans
That’s my man
Taylor has referred to this song as “casting a spell,” and these lines show it. She’s so in love with this person, and isn’t sure if the love interest feels the same way (or if we want to get REALLY spicy it could be interpreted as the love interest not feeling the same and the narrator, in desperation, casts a spell to make the love interest fall in love with her). Regardless, these lines are almost like a chant: “take my hand, wreck my plans, that’s my man.” 
Whereas before the narrator is less and less sure of what she wants, at this point she does know: she wants to be with this person no matter what, even if it changes carefully detailed plans that had already been set in motion. The last line could be portrayed as possessive: “that’s MY man”, or with adoration: “that’s my man!” or in any other light. 
Life was a willow, and it bent right to your wind
THIS. LINE. HAS HAD ME. IN A CHOKEHOLD. FOR YEARS. 
A willow tree is also known as a “weeping willow,” because its beautiful branches droop like tears (I’m sure there’s more to it than that, though). If life for the narrator was “a willow,” then her life may have been pretty sad or depressing before she met this person. A tree bending to the wind is nature, you can’t really stop it. Therefore, meeting this person was inevitable. Not only that, but the willow bending to the wind is the narrator and the love interest’s chemistry - it’s like he’s a magnet, pulling her towards him.
Random side fact - I just found out that the species name for Weeping Willow is salix babylonica. “Now you hang from my lips like the gardens of Babylon…” Coincidence? Possibly, but I think not.
Head on the pillow, I could feel you sneaking in
It’s common at nighttime to daydream (or would it be called nightdream?) to help oneself fall asleep. The narrator could either be thinking about him before she falls asleep, or she could already be asleep and he invades her dreams. “Sneaking in” implies secrecy, a promise to see each other, or some kind of mischief. But this line could also suggest that the narrator is trying hard to not think about him, hence the “sneaking in” done by him. 
As if you were a miracle thing,
Like you were a trophy or a champion ring
Trophies are pretty common among sports, but a champion ring? Those are reserved for the best of the best in baseball, basketball, football and hockey. You don’t see someone wearing one of those everyday. Like how the narrator is a priceless wine to the love interest, the trophy/champion ring is the love interest to the narrator. He’s valuable, rare, and earned by hard work. 
However, if you REALLY want to spice things up, this could be taken in a negative light: the love interest could be a “trophy” to the narrator in the sense of she likes to show the love interest off for her own gain. 
There was one prize I’d cheat to win
Cheating in sports is forbidden, but that definitely doesn’t stop it from happening. Unfortunately, it’s the same in relationships – cheating is not okay, but it doesn’t stop people from doing it. This shows the lengths the narrator would go to for this love interest, even as far as cheating (I’m taking it as a metaphorical cheating, not literal cheating, but y’all can think whatever you want).
You know that my train can take you home
Anywhere else is hollow
We kind of get a flashback to “cardigan” here, with James “stepping on the last train,” which is a nice throwback to the folklore album. This to me feels like a gentle kind of coaxing - “hey, I can take you home, everywhere else sucks.” Taylor has mentioned in many of her songs before that a significant other is “home”. By saying she is taking him “home,” she is implying that she is the one for him. 
Then it’s a repeat to the chant: “I’m begging for you to take my hand, wreck my plans, that’s my man.”

But I come back stronger than a 90’s trend
Since we’ve established the meaning of the first line, let’s focus on lines two and four. “They” could refer to any group of people who have made the narrator/Taylor feel ostracized. It could be the media, the press, people that she once trusted, etc. By following this with the repeat of the willow line, it’s almost like the narrator is saying something like, “yeah, that happened, but it led me to YOU.” Finishing it off with the self-empowering line of coming back stronger, and the message of the willow line becomes even more meaningful: because she met the love interest, she can rise above the situations that broke her. 
Wait for the signal, and I’ll meet you after dark.
Show me the places where the others gave you scars. 
The first line implies secrecy, or perhaps….an “illicit affair?” For whatever reason, the narrator doesn’t want other people to see this relationship. My guess is that the relationship is secret because so many other relationships have fallen by the wayside due to publicity and the media. She wants to keep this one secret, because it’s the most valuable one she’s had. 
The second line is about vulnerability and trust. Showing someone scars - literally or metaphorically - means that there is not only trust, but a willingness to be open and vulnerable. She’s asking the love interest to show her his scars as a way of building their relationship (whether the love interest did or not is up to speculation). 
Now, this is an open-shut case
I guess I should’ve known from the look on your face
Every bait-and-switch was a work of art.
“This” = the relationship. It’s become so obvious to her, there’s no way she can deny that she wants this person. 
A bait-and-switch is an action of advertising goods which are an apparent bargain, with the intention of substituting inferior or more expensive goods (thank you, dictionary.com for helping me with this one). Interestingly, when Taylor did an interview with Rolling Stone in 2019 about her “downfall” and when she met Joe Alwyn, she used this phrase. She described reputation as a bait-and-switch: rep is a love album, while at first glance it looks like a “revenge” album, or a very “dark” album. (And yeah, it’s true that rep has some very angsty songs, but almost all of the songs on the album are about being in love). 
Then the choruses are sung again, twice. Now more than ever does it give the imagery of casting a spell, and a plea of desperation.
IN SUMMATION
To me, "willow" is a song about a girl - a lonely, sad, numb girl, who's life has recently had a series of misfortunes. She's obviously grieving in some way, or in a state of melancholia. She's a girl who feels rejected by others, perhaps because others see her as something she is not. She's just moving through life on auto-pilot. Then.....she meets someone. Someone who sends a spark of life back into her. And then she slowly starts to come back to life. Just like the line in State of Grace - "I never saw you coming, and I'll never be the same." This girl has found someone, perhaps The One, and she is pleading for it to stay. Perhaps she is so desperate in her wish that it casts a spell.
"willow" is a song of desperation, of love, of sadness, of deep deep loneliness. It's also a love song, beautifully written with the metaphors and haunting melody that only Taylor can give.
