I made a new dnd character and it’s a species called a grung which is basically a frog person like tabaxi’s are cat people!
Tumblr media
This is basically what she looks like.
Grungs need to be submerged in water for at least an hour a day so she carried around a portable hole filled with water and also took a level in bard so she can use prestidigitation to warm the water whenever she wants
She does actually wear a white cape and sunglasses for style! She’s the coolest frog you’ll ever meet!

CANOLOTH
Tumblr media
VS GRUNGS
Tumblr media
Finally nearing the end! Which is great, I've somehow got 3 tournaments going and even I'm getting a little confused.
First is the Canoloth! It's around 4 ft (1.2 m) at the shoulder with a 20‒30 ft (6.1‒9.1 m) long prehensile barbed tongue to grapple with. They're telepathic, covered in chitonous plates, and despite thier blindness thier amazing senses let them see everything within 120 ft (36.6 m) perfectly, ignoring all illusions or shapeshifting. They're also surprisingly chill creatures and won't do anything not SPECIFICALLY in thier contract. So if you can find some reason why stopping you isn't in thier contract they'll happily stop and chat or let you walk right past their guard gate.
Then we have the full version of the Grung! Grungs are 3 ft (91 cm) sentient poison tree frog people. Generally aggressive and territorial creatures that live in a (usually) matriarchal caste based society based on color (though your role and color can actually change if you do well enough). The color actually does matter, as it determines the powers their poison holds!
Green poison only lets you move by jumping and climbing. they're warriors.
Blue grung are artisans and childcare workers, and thier poison compels you to make loud noises.
Purples are supervisors, thier poison fills you with the overwhelming urge to soak in water or mud
Reds are mages, usually of primal or divine magic, and make you need to eat anything edible in sight.
Orange are elite guards and make you scared of your friends.
And gold grungs are warrior rulers whose poison...makes you love grungs and instantly fluent thier language. somehow.

OC challenge, the randomizer picked Skug!
Skug is a grung monk I played a few years ago, and honestly he turned out to be one of my favorites! He was lots of fun to play, I've even considered playing another grung because of how fun it was.
Here's the first rendition of Skug... not much has changed. He actually got together with one of my partymates (it was lowkey one-sided on her part but shhhh..) and he had a pet undead rat that was also a god. Idk man my DM was wild

Specialized Bedroll for Grung (dnd 5e)
Tumblr media
Grung are technically a playable race and they're awesome. They have one fatal weakness however: The "Water Dependency" trait where "If you fail to immerse yourself in water for at least 1 hour during a day, you suffer one level of exhaustion at the end of that day. You can only recover from this exhaustion through magic or by immersing yourself in water for at least 1 hour."
The Layers of a Theoretical Grung Bedroll (from out to in)
Tumblr media
The Basic Bedroll. Grung sized but with a bigger circumference as there are a few more layers. Slight cushioning from the bumpy ground and easy to transport. a classic.
The Waterproof Layer. Sewn along the seams of the bedroll and made out of the same marital and strategy as a water skin. Keeps the water trapped inside.
The Layer of Woven Wool. This is the structure/scaffolding for the next layer. Don't worry about it being scratchy on Amphibious skin as the next layer will take care of that. Wool specifically because it's easy to get and one of the few fibers that actually continues to keep one warm when wet rather than sucking the heat out of you.
Cave Algae. a theoretical carefully cultivated cave algae that will help retain the moisture beyond just trapping it with waterproof material, keep it dispersed throughout rather than sloshing around, and mean you're not carrying around a few gallons on your back as you need less water at a time for the prev reasons.
In theory a Grung adventurer would just top off their bedroll as needed when everyone is refilling the waterskins.

"Play other games" yes absolutely but I'd like to propose a corollary of "play older games" where everyone has to engage at least once with a game that's at least twenty years old (specifically a publication at least twenty years old. no cheating.) and find one web resource that's at least ten years old or print resource at least fifteen years old discussing it.

Here is my DnD character! Her name is Faroe (yes inspired by Malevolent), and she is a Grung Haunted One Warlock for our Drakkenheim DnD sessions :3
It’s pretty fun, it’s my second campaign and we have a great team. My patron is Tharizdun!

Party bard Morpho has been acting like an emo teen in recent sessions, so we've been joking about him passing the emo virus to the rest of the party.... hence this image. Fleich, Morozoko, and Calamity join the legion lmao

Dahlia
A nonbinary Grung Blood Cleric who follows The Path of a Dahlia. All individuals who follow the path take the name Dahlia and each serve under the Sanguine Sister, the patron deity of pain, pleasure, suffering, and reward. The Dahlias’ mission is to release those undeserving of pain/suffering and to inflect those undeserving of pleasure/reward.
This Dahlia wears a pinkish red dahlia shaped hat atop their crown. Their skin is bright red with a pale belly and black spotted extremities. The leather armor on their body resembles petals and a holy symbol of the White Dahlia hangs from their neck.

The door to Thero
Thero/Theodore - Grung - Cleric or Paladin
A Grung raised by Missionaries of a good/aligned deity. Was actually kidnapped as a child but was too young to remember. They intended him as a tool to convert his "savage" kin. It's very much a Christian Missionaries taking in a native child situation. Given name is Theodore, but they more often called him "Thero" which means "feral" or "beastly" a derogatory nickname, though he remains oblivious to that part. Use Australian accent I've been working on? Definitely the positive sort. Possibly lawful, suiting both the nature of Grung as well as his religious upbringing.
If Paladin thinking Oath of Devotion or Oath of the Crown. If Cleric possibly Twilight, Order, or Life Domain. Maybe Nature Domain.
