idk if Murdoc would like Shrek or not because on one hand, Shrek was the start of the decline in voice acting. Ever since Mike Meyers played as Shrek, DreamWorks has really set the trend of hiring celebrity voices instead of trained/talented voice actors (this isn't to say celebrities can't be good voice actors, for example, Robin Williams was excellent. It's just that people like Justin Timberlake aren't cut out for it) So it was really the start of Celebrities starting to take over the animation industry (think the Trolls movie) but also.. it's about a green man being a dick to everyone, so maybe he relates, idk

yesterday, I was writing bios for my OCs, and I needed to find a middle name for an oc. I happened to find the name Isolde on a baby name website, and apparently it’s the name of a character from a Wagner opera. I decided it sounded great for my character, tho I know nothing about the Isolde character from opera lol X)

so Isolde from Tristan und Isolde is basically this Irish princess whose fiancé got murdered by this guy named Tristan. Tristan ends up escorting her on a boat trip from Ireland to Cornwall so she can marry Tristan’s uncle, King Marke.

Isolde is Not Having It With Any Of This so she tells her maid Brangäne to make a poison for herself and Tristan but Brangäne swaps in a love potion so they drink and BAM! instantly in love.

obviously, given that Isolde is getting married to his uncle, a lot of problems ensue, Tristan is mortally wounded and ends up dying after the longest death scene in the history of opera, and then Isolde transcends everything, sings the iconic “Liebestod” (go look it up, it’s FAB), and then herself dies THE END!

the whole story would take some TIME but I can reveal a little of it... @chateautae actually asked today as well and it’s a funny little tale so I’m happy to share it...

my husband was a quiet and brilliant underclassman with the most beautiful blue eyes... he told me once that he used to watch me sing with the acapella group (at the time I was dating his best friend’s older brother)... and he said I was always the girl he compared all the others to...

I didn’t pay attention to him. like. at all. (aside from acknowledging how gorgeous his eyes were)

when we were out of college he—uh—debauched his way through the majority of my friend group (it really is the quiet ones I tell ya) and I was royally pissed at him for (admittedly unintentionally) breaking all their hearts... so I asked him (in the middle of karaoke after poor Liz ran away crying because their FWB arrangement was never going to be more) why he couldn’t just pick one and stick with her and he said “because none of them are the girl I want”... I was very in my feels at that point and I snapped back with “so just date the one you want!”

he laughed right in my face and walked away.

on our wedding day he told me I was always the girl he wanted... but he never thought I’d give him a chance.

Guess he was wrong.

I’m so conflicted because on one hand I’m absolutely over the moon that folklore has gotten so many noms because it really deserves it, but I’m also really fucking pissed that After Hours and Manic got snubbed. Both of them are just as worthy of AOTY as folklore and deserve some kind of attention.

i totally get where ur coming from! i personally think that attempting to reconcile one’s subjective, celebrity opinions [ex. thinking folklore deserved aoty] w one’s like, politics/morals/etc [ex. racist grammys] isn’t a very realistic or productive goal; it’s really cool that folklore got nominated! and, simultaneously, it’s just a fact that part of the reason it got nominated was white privilege. i feel like it’s ok to be happy for an individual thing as long as that doesn’t take precedence over acknowledging the larger systemic problems that facilitated it...sorry this is so long and kinda off topic...i agree w u for sure that there isn't, and shouldn't be, an easy answer for this
