For anyone who was wondering, @grippingtraverse found the answer over on this post: Auricle.
help i remember listening to a podcast a while ago with the premise of a new ai-supported app that let you talk to strangers and the ai was constantly interrupting the conversation, censoring certain topics and curse words or giving unhelpful "conversation prompts" but i cannot remember what the podcast was called whatsoever. i think i only listened to season 1 and the next season was gonna have a different premise but i don't quite remember. anyway the ai submission form reminded me of it and i was wondering if maybe you know what it's called
Was it Paired by any chance?
I've only listened to the first fifteen or so episodes and that was a while ago. The protagonist is a digital assistant more than a messenger app from what I recall.
Anyone else have any ideas?

fuckhands mcmike was initially a nickname tumblr user phantomrose96 gave to my hero academia villian shigaraki on account of his power being turning things to dust through touching them with his hands and being introduced with severed hands all over his body. it greatly amused me when i listened to the magnus archives and there was a character whose name was michael and he had fucked up hands, which is i guess why fuckhands mcmike spread wider in the tma fandom than the mha fandom.
that's excellent. thank you for the explanation.

@grippingtraverse Hello! Thanks for these wonderful asks!
Simplified, short answer: I don't think so! Not really. The framework and coherency of 'Person/Character of color' collapses when applied to Dabi (a fictional Japanese character in fictional sci-fiJapan, as written by a irl Japanese author and published in irl Japan) in context of the work, within the story and outside of it. There’s maybe something to be said about how Japanese manga characters are seen in America and how they’re treated by Americans, whether it’s believing them to be “white because they don’t look Japanese” or as part of treating a foreign work with Orientalist lenses in general, so I can understand a bit of the sentiment; but I was focusing on the in-universe context of the story, a watsonian perspective.
Plus, by those standards, Spinner is a 'character of color' as well. I'm not so much relating to him because he's a 'lizard/furry/scalie', I'm relating to him because he's also a 'character of color' - esp. because of how his hikkikomori/depression is portrayed in a way that I feel is different from American depictions - who's being further discriminated against for another trait. Of course, that's all my personal projection and reading; but I think I'm allowed that?
You've nailed it though! All you said about as far as the fantasy story is concerned, Dabi at the very least isn't discrimination against for an all-body animal mutant quirk. Maybe people think he's still a heteromorph of sorts because of his burns - I wouldn't be surprised! - but that's not an experience of his that's been shown, and the most someone had described him is someone with a 'patchwork face'.
As for Japanese fandom...! From what I've seen on twitter, they see what Spinner has experienced as discrimination, and have likened it to the racism that exist in our world, but *insert disclaimer about it being fictional*. As I do, when I call Dabi a *fantasy*-racist.
Not so much about the interaction between Dabi and Spinner, but related: What has been most surprising to me is the significance some in the Japanese fandom get from Chapter 302's Touya being on the computer, and the things he says. I hate to reveal it like this and not in a proper meta post, but that chapter gives them vibes that 13-year-old Touya, lacking parental attention, has been on the internet a bit too much looking for answers, and have wandered into a few questionable message boards.
Apparently the stuff Touya says about modern heroes and enlightenment books sound like repetitions of stuff he's read online which has a sort of 2ch/4ch feel to them lol. "Words of a 13-year-old who has surfed the net." There's one tweet that jokes he's been on woman-bashing threads; another that says Touya reminds them of a 'net-uyo' phase; yet another that wonders if things had gotten worse, he would've joined the CRC. This is, of course, their interpretations as well; but we can't all be making shit up when there's implications in the story that gets a bunch of people thinking this. These were the vibes I got well, though from a different angle.
(I'd link to the tweets, but given how I've apparently really pissed some people off with a mostly tongue-in-cheek 'headcanon' so much things got like this, I cannot trust people not to go harassing these twitter users, waking up one day to people yelling at them in a foreign language. I don't want to think it'll get that bad, but. Better not risk it.)
**I feel bad. I feel it's pretty low of me to use all this *vaguely gestures above* to try to fend off anime-fandom accusations that I'm racist, or I'm making shit up because I hate Dabi (I don't, actually) so much I need to, or that I'm a crazy shipper doing all this for fucking ship; but even if people won't listen, I don't think I can stand people thinking I'm weaponizing my real life identity that I already get stressed out over enough from navigating this absurd world, for character hate. I had to at least say my piece?
...This derailed towards the personal towards the end, and I apologize for that! But thanks again for the asks - they were super thought-provoking and I still had fun answering them, despite everything. Please have a good day! And Happy Halloween!

according to @changes the ads follow blocking and filtering functions like regular posts now. I'm not american so I can't tell, and you've made clear how much the opposite is a problem, so I'm asking if things changed for you?
!!!!
I haven't noticed yet because I've tried to minimize how much I use the app so that my browser extension blacklist will catch things, but I'm hoping that this will make the site a lot easier to use on the app for me and others who have been getting Blazed posts from blocked blogs and filtered content.
I'm so glad that they changed that!

the only ads I ever actually heard on tma are at the beginning or end and for fiction podcasts or online games, the only ads podcastaddict shows are at the bottom of the screen, are you sure we're talking about the same ads?
yea its the acast recommends ad spot at the end, and since acast is their distributor through which they actually upload, i cant imagine its not on every single app. i used to get random fiction podcasts, but now it keeps recommending like really Heavy political exposé-type shows and the ads are really aggressive from the get go like “last week police shot and killed a woman in her own home-” and by then i always turn it off cause like. no thanks actually, im trying to AVOID constantly hearing about fucked up shit in the world.
#again i guess this is probably the risk for listening to a horror podcast#that youre gonna get heavier ads#but id rather not get REAL LIFE upsetting shit with no trigger warnings#grippingtraverse

it’s turned into a p large, painful knot in my bicep that makes everything hurt, from moving it to just trying to sleep around it. 8C

My French is rusty, and aside from that I'd learned Quebec French and not France French; but I understood enough to find your post funny!
Thank you! galette des rois time this Sunday (which means we will eat some for weeks, including a few with no frangipane at all /o/ basically: as long as there is a fève (“bean”-but-it’s-actually-a-porcelain-figurine) hidden inside, it can be called a galette des rois. My mom used to make pizzas this way.), and the person getting the fève gets a shiny little paper/cardboard crown, so. Yeah. Who would be very adamant about getting to wear The Crown in the Magnus Institute, I wonder.
grippingtraverse replied to your post: Version française des Archives de Magnus, où ils…
i don’t speak any french yet my brain insisted i read the whole post + tags and so far what i got is “what if the podcast was set in france? think of the workers’ union” and that idea is great in itself :“
Listen, if the friggin’ Eiffel Tower staff is unionised (and it’s a pretty powerful union, apparently), even Elias could do nothing to stop the UA!French!L’Institut Magnus from getting unionised.
#grippingtraverse#pomrania#as a lot of stuff in france: it actually has roman roots;#got reappropriated by christianity; and right now it's really mostly just an excuse to eat food#with extra additional history bits#(the president gets a Big One delivered each year but his doesn't have any fève inside because french revolution happened and stuff etc.)#les archives de magnus

We’ve got one called All In My Head that’s worth a try! Also love rose drive if you haven’t tried that (though maybe more of a thriller than horror)
@tandonshows
I've heard these three, but encourage other people to check them out if you're looking for new things to listen to.
Ain't slayed nobody! AP but gets really creepy
@arianwells
This one is new to me, but I will save it for when I'm in a tabletop headspace.
Cheers to all, and still taking recs if anyone has them.
Alright, what horror podcast am I listening to next?

post/176591875226 as much as the stranger is circus themed the not-them always seemed to me to be a twist on changelings so i think you got your wish in season 1
nevermind i'm going chronologically and just saw that you thought of changelings too
YEAH! Although I think back when I made that post, what I was really wanting was an episode that explicitly addressed fae legends through the lens of one of the Powers, rather than the Powers doing stuff inspired by faeries. Like, if you’re in the TMA universe and you stumble on a fairy ring, or a hollow hill, or a black dog at the crossroads, what are you really encountering? That’d be fun, I think. We need more faeries in horror.
