ok so for the folks that work in back of house/kitchen: what's your go-to secret menu item?

aka the food NOT meant for customers and only the staff know how to order, sometimes from specific cooks

I work in a bar kitchen, we mainly serve fried appetizers, grilled snacks, bread n dips etc, right? But that means there's all the constituent ingredients to make a FULL chicken pita, it just takes more time and effort than is worth putting on the menu. but it also means you can really only order it if I'm working

the previous full-sized restaurant i worked at, it was something called a suicide gyro (like suicide wings) and you could only order it when Steve was working bc it was made with the small-batch hot sauce he made at home with the peppers he grew himself

My brother brought my mum and me along with one of my nephews to Andy’s Grill Express near where he was staying. The stall’s front is pretty narrow that it had to display the menu on the side wall. We went for their Super Combo Deal as it offered the best value. Ordered freshly squeezed Orange and Watermelon Juices to quench the thirst.

My nephew and I had Ribeye Steaks (2 for S$22) which is served on top of a bed of fries and crispy salad and drizzled in brown gravy. While it isn’t the best ribeye I had, it was juicy and tender plus the portion was big.

Mum and my brother went for the Fish & Chips (2 for S$14.90). It came with the same sides of fries and salad plus a squeeze of tartar sauce on the side. Mum gave me a piece of the fish which was well seasoned and crispy.

Dropped by Sushi Express (爭鮮), the conveyor belt sushi restaurant at Sun Plaza for a quick lunch. This black & gold plate of Grilled Beef Sushi scrolled pass and I just had to grab it. Topped with caramelized sweet onions, the thin beef is a tad dry but the portion is good nonetheless.

Baked Cheesy Mussels came next and was quickly gobbled down. :D Looking like a toppled tree, this Spicy Chicken Drumlet was crispy and juicy to the bite.

A jumbo Aburi Cheesy Salmon Sushi caught my eye. A long thin slice of salmon molded over sushi rice topped with cheese and torched. The salmon is melt in the mouth soft and the piece of canned peach gave it sweetness.

A braised Abalone Sushi came into sight, sitting like a gold ingot on top the molded rice. Taste wise, it doesn’t offer much of an impression, just chewiness. This plate of Mock Abalone Salad gives a much better value with a mild spicy and whole lots of texture.

Normally, the Anago Sushi will be presented length wise but here half of the saltwater eel is folded under the rice due to the smaller plate. Of course, I couldn’t leave without eating a slice of their Blueberry Cheesecake which had shrunk to a smaller size over the past few years.
